Normani says her solo success has felt like an ‘out-of-body experience’

OHMYGOSSIP — Normani says the success she’s achieved as a solo artist feels like an “out-of-body experience”.
The 22-year-old singer is familiar with chart success thanks to her time in Fifth Harmony, but Normani has conceded that the reaction to her debut solo hit, ‘Love Lies’, has been “mind-blowing”.
She shared: “Honestly … [it’s] a dream come true.
“I’m so grateful and so blessed and it’s just amazing. For this to be the first record that kind of introduces me to the world with my own artistry, aside from who they’ve known to be Normani in Fifth Harmony for so long, it’s really crazy and mind-blowing.
“It’s kind of like an out-of-body experience, even for me, because it’s like I can’t believe I actually did that, or I was part of that.”
Although Normani always felt passionately about the record, she wasn’t entirely certain whether her efforts would lead to chart success.
The singer – whose single also features vocals from Khalid – told Billboard: “To have a record that I cared so deeply about with Khalid – he’s one of my closest friends … We knew that the song felt good, but we didn’t necessarily know … you hope for the best, but you really don’t know.
“So it’s just really cool to see it soaring and spreading its wings and doing so amazing and connecting with so many people. It’s been awesome.”
Meanwhile, Normani has also provided an update on her debut solo album, saying she’s been like a “kid in a candy shop”.
She said: “Sonically and creatively, I’m able to do absolutely anything that I wanna do now.
“It’s like a kid in a candy shop. It’s overwhelming sometimes, because there’s like so much you can do but the options are limitless, so I’m excited.”

Corrie’s Steve McDonald gets stranded on honeymoon

OHMYGOSSIP — Coronation Street’s Steve McDonald will be left stranded on honeymoon in Morocco after his new wife Tracy Barlow dumps him and steals his passport.
The cab driver – played by Simon Gregson – thought he had got away with bonking Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) when he manages to make it down the aisle with the flower shop owner, but little does he know his whole world is set to come crumbling down around him as Tracy has been plotting her revenge.
The vindictive woman – played by Kate Ford – will wait until they are abroad to give her new husband a taste of his own medicine as she snatches his travel document, meaning he can’t leave the country, and flies home without him.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “‘Coronation Street’ lost its humour a bit under the previous regime, but new boss Iain MacLeod is keen to bring it back. This storyline will have fans laughing in their armchairs again. It’s classic ‘Corrie’.”
Although her revenge will have viewers in stitches, Tracy will be left red faced when she realises that Steve had actually been bunked up with Leanne – whom he has son Oliver with – and not Abi Franklin (Sally Carman) as she first thought.
Steve – who has been married seven times – landed himself in hot water last week when he was caught in bed with Leanne after he convinced himself that Tracy had given him a “free pass” to cheat before their big day.
However, it ended up being a huge misunderstanding as she was actually giving him a free pass to the spa where they were supposed to be getting married.
And it’s a well-known fact that the bumbling idiot is no good at keeping secrets, which leads to Tracy interrogating him about his “free pass” on their wedding day.

Duchess Catherine’s spider hunts

OHMYGOSSIP — Duchess Catherine spends “hours” on “spider hunts” with her children.
The 36-year-old royal – who has Prince George, five, Princess Charlotte, three, and Prince Louis, five months, with husband Prince William – made her first official appearance since giving birth to her youngest child in April on Tuesday (02.10.18) and told children from St. Stephen’s School who were visiting Sayers Croft Forest School and Wildlife Garden in Paddington, London, that she had no problem joining them in a hunt for mini beasts.
Zoe Stroud, interim Head of Sayers Croft Forest School, said: “[Catherine] was lovely — although she said the only mini beast she managed to find on the hunt was a slug! But she did see a frog under a log.
“She really gets what we are doing here and said she often takes her children on spider hunts in their garden, which they love. They can spend hours out there.”
Catherine delighted another little girl on the visit when the youngster asked her: “Why are they picturing you?”
The duchess held the girl’s hand and said: “They’re picturing you cause you’re special!”
Catherine joined the children to the facility for story time and helped hand out cups of juice and paper to make crowns, before assisting the kids in finding leaves for their crowns.
The Sayers Croft Forest School aims to involve children in the environment by providing outdoor facilities for those who may otherwise be unable to access them and is visited by schools from Westminster and other neighbouring boroughs.
Zoe said: “It’s really important for the schools and children who live in council flats and have no outside space at home.”
Catherine also met Dr. Paul Knapman, representative deputy lieutenant for The City of Westminster, and was introduced to a number of prominent community figures.

Johnny Depp upset by abuse allegations

OHMYGOSSIP — Johnny Depp was “hurt” when he was accused of beating Amber Heard.
The 55-year-old actor was accused of lashing out at the 32-year-old actress when she filed for divorce in May 2016 after 15 months of marriage but he insists the allegations against him “couldn’t even sound” like him.
He said: “The thing that hurt me is being presented as something that you’re really as far away from as you could possibly get.
“To harm someone you love? No, it didn’t, it couldn’t even sound like me.”
And the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star insisted he would never be so “stupid” as to have attacked Amber.
He added in a new interview with Britain’s GQ magazine: “Twenty-five feet away from her, how the f**k am I going to hit her? Which, by the way, is the last thing I would’ve done. I might look stupid, but I ain’t f***ing stupid.”
Johnny thinks people look at him “differently” because of the allegations and now regard him as a “beast”.
He said: “I could feel people look at me differently. I know I was never going to be Cinderella … but it felt like within a very, very short period of time that suddenly this version — for lack of a better word — of Cinderella had been immediately turned into the beast. He’s Quasimodo.”
The ‘Black Bass’ actor has been upset by the effect the accusations have had on his children, Lily-Rose, 19, and Jack, now 16, who he has with former partner Vanessa Paradis.
He said: “I do this s**t for my kids, man. How could someone, anyone, come out with something like that against someone, when there’s no truth to it whatsoever?
“I’m sure it wasn’t easy for my 14-year-old boy to go to school, you know what I mean? With people going, ‘Hey, look at this magazine, man. What, your dad beats up chicks or something?’ Why did he have to go through that? Why did my daughter have to go through that?”
But Johnny is confident the “truth” will come out eventually.
He said: “Ultimately, the truth will come out in all of this and I will be standing on the right side of the roaring rapids. I hope other people will be too. I know the truth and if I had to walk away from all of it today, the job, the career, all of it, and go toodle-oo, then fine.”

Claire King knew about Emmerdale return for ‘about a year’

OHMYGOSSIP — Claire King has known about her ‘Emmerdale’ return for “about a year.”
The 55-year-old actress will reprise her role as the evil Kim Tate – a role she hasn’t played for over 20 years – in the long-running soap for seven days next week and, although it was a huge shock to fans when the news was announced last month, she has admitted she’s been keeping her return a secret for ages.
Speaking to the Radio Times magazine, she said: “Because there was a Tate name back in Home Farm it made it smoother for the continuity. I still know some people here and thought it would be good fun.
“Plus I’d done ‘Corrie’ and didn’t fancy driving the four or five hours across the Pennines to Manchester from Yorkshire anymore!
“Chris Chittell, who plays Eric Pollard, texted me saying ‘Don’t worry, Kingy, it’s still the same great place with the same good work ethic’ – it sounds cheesy but it really is a family here and it’s lovely to be back.
“I left ‘Corrie’ in 2017 and had to wait until things settled down a bit as I needed some time in between, but I’ve known I was coming back to ‘Emmerdale’ for about a year. It’s been really hard to stay quiet – I did tell my parents and my partner, but no one else. Now it’s out friends are furiously texting me!”
However, although fans are counting down the days until Kim is back on screen, Claire has admitted she was really nervous because she’s such a “big character.”
She explained: “There was pressure because she’d been such a big character and I didn’t want to spoil the memories people had. I’d left on such a high and it could all go horrible wrong. And there was the thought of ‘Can I still do this?!’ But I was eased back in as my first few days were mainly with Andrew Scarborough [Graham Foster] away from the main set. By the time I shot the scene of her pulling up in the sports car at Home Farm, Kim was well and truly back!”

OHMYGOSSIP — Kourtney Kardashian is reportedly considering moving to New York City.
The 39-year-old reality TV star – who has kids Mason, eight, Penelope, six, and Reign, three, with her ex-boyfriend Scott Disick – is said to be weighing up the possibility of moving from Calabasas in California to the Big Apple.
Kourtney was overheard “discussing a potential move” when she was spotted at the popular Zuma New York restaurant last week, according to the New York Post newspaper’s Page Six column.
The brunette beauty was seen dining at the Japanese restaurant with some of her friends, including Simon Huck, Phil Riportella and Nicole Reda.
The group were overheard discussing Kanye West’s planned appearance on ‘Saturday Night Live’.
The insider shared: “Her group also talked about how they all would be seeing Kanye perform on ‘Saturday Night Live’ the next day.”
Meanwhile, a source recently revealed that Kourtney and Scott want to do things as a “family unit” for the sake of their children.
The celebrity duo went to New York on a mini family vacation last month, and even though they’re not a couple, they’re still keen to do things as a family for the benefit of their children.
The insider explained: “When things are going well between Scott and Kourtney, the like to do things together as a family unit for the sake of the kids.”
Despite their turbulent past, Kourtney and Scott – who split in 2015 – have been “great at co-parenting lately” and their kids are loving being with both of their parents at the same time.
The source added: “The kids love when they all get to be together and Kourtney and Scott have been great at co-parenting lately. Everyone is really happy.”

Elizabeth Hurley gives up coffee for healthy lifestyle

OHMYGOSSIP — Elizabeth Hurley has “given up coffee” in a bid to be more healthy.
The 53-year-old star has stopped worrying about how she looks but has made changes to her lifestyle because she wants to be fitter and stronger.
She told ‘Extra’: “When you’re younger, it’s all about beauty. As you get older, it’s all about your health. I’ve been trying to exercise more and eat healthier. I’ve even given up coffee.”
The model-and-actress has dished out her beauty secrets in the past, and last year she insisted a “positive” mindset was an important part of looking and feeling young.
She advised: “You have to try to stay positive. We all get terrible knocks in life, all of us.
“Some people have terrible things they have to deal with. You see some people and they just manage to keep their attitude positive. They rise above stuff. Some people get angry.
“Sometimes I think to glow, you have to let go of a lot of stuff and move on. Be as nice as you can to everyone.”
Meanwhile, she recently opened up on her sense of fashion, and admitted she likes lots of the garments worn by her 16-year-old son Damian that she recycles them for herself once he grows out of them.
She said: “I tend to wear Damian’s cast-offs. His 14-15-year-old trackie bottoms fit me perfectly.”
Elizabeth and Damian – whose father is American businessman Steve Bing – share a very close bond as she has raised him for many years as a single parent but she insists she is just lucky to have a child whose personality is similar to her own.
She said: “I rather think I’ve simply been blessed with a child whose personality gels with mine. Friends who have several children always admit, although they love them all equally, inevitably there’s one whose personality mirrors their own and they ‘get’ each other better. It’s definitely nature not nurture.”

Zoe Ball to host BBC Radio 2’s Breakfast Show

OHMYGOSSIP — Zoe Ball is the new presenter of BBC Radio 2’s ‘Breakfast Show’.
The 47-year-old television personality will become the first woman to front the popular early-morning show on the airwaves after Chris Evans – who helmed the segment for eight years – announced he was stepping down as its host last month.
Speaking in a statement, she said: “To be the first woman to present this very special show is both an honour and privilege. Believe me, I’m not underestimating the enormity of the task ahead, to follow not one but two of my broadcasting idols, into such a well-loved show is somewhat daunting.
“I hope, in the same way that Chris made this show his own after taking over from the wonderful Sir Terry Wogan, that with a top team alongside me, I can bring the fabulous Radio 2 audience a show they want to wake up to.”
Zoe joined Chris on the show on Wednesday (03.10.18) morning and admitted that she had known that she was taking over from him for “weeks”.
She explained: “This is bonkers. I am a crazy mix of elation and wanting to burst into tears but thrilled. If we go back to mic drop moment of you saying you were going […] I didn’t expect to get the call but getting a call was an amazing thing.”
Although she was over the moon to get the call from Radio 2 bosses, Zoe has revealed it was actually her 17-year-old son Woody, whom she has with her ex-husband Fatboy Slim, who encouraged her to agree to the presenting gig.
The blonde beauty also presents ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ spin-off show ‘It Takes Two’ and is really hoping that she’s able to carry on, despite her new job.
She said: “That’s my other favourite job. I’m really hoping I’ll be able to do both.”
Zoe is certainly no stranger to the airwaves as she first dipped her toe in the industry back in 1997 when she became the first female DJ to present BBC Radio 1 ‘Breakfast Show’ alongside Kevin Greening before leaving in 2000.
However, her departure was only short lived as she returned to radio in 2002 as a presenter at XFM before landing her own weekend show from 2009 until 2012.
Chris announced he was leaving Radio 2 at the beginning of September – just before the birth of his newborn twins – in order to climb a new “mountain.”
He said at the time: “I’m leaving Radio 2 and since I decided this, which has been a conversation I have been having with my nearest and dearest since last year, a few weeks ago I made my mind up for sure.
“During that conversation it was pointed out that I had been here for 13 years and that’s a long time and I’ve been on the breakfast show for eight years which is also a long time. A brilliant time, a great time and I’ve loved every single minute of it. Some of us are mountain climbers and if you get to the top of your favourite mountain and you stay there, you’re just an observer.
“And I’ve got to keep climbing so I’m going to go and go again and start up on a brand new adventure. And I’ve loved it here, every second and I don’t want this to be it. I’m 52, it’s brilliant, it’s never been more current.”
Zoe will take over Radio 2’s ‘Breakfast Show’ in January.

Christopher McQuarrie and Henry Cavill have discussed a Man of Steel sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Christopher McQuarrie and Henry Cavill have discussed creating a “really awesome version of Superman”.
The 50-year-old screenwriter has revealed he’s spoken to the Hollywood star at length about making a ‘Man of Steel 2’, even though reports have suggested Henry is to replaced as Superman.
Asked whether he’d be interested in making a ‘Man of Steel’ sequel with Henry, Christopher explained: “Many, many people have asked, many, many, many times.
“I had an awesome conversation with Henry Cavill about an awesome version of Superman while we were on set.
“You’re sitting around of hours, waiting for stuff to be built so I can put Henry in it, and throw him off a cliff, or freeze him to death. And we talked about a really awesome version of Superman.”
Henry, 35, wants to create a movie in which Superman is heroic and optimistic.
But Christopher admitted that it’s a more complicated process than fans may imagine.
He told Collider: “[That’s] the movie Henry wants. There’s a really, really beautiful version of that, and I honestly can’t speak for the people who are responsible for making those decisions, except to say it’s part of a giant corporate mechanism.
“I’m one guy. I can stand up and turn around, turn my back to you instantly, a giant corporation that’s in the middle of a merger with another giant corporation is an aircraft carrier in a broom closet being asked to turn around.
“Part of my job, and what’s made my being a director so much more easy in this business, was ultimately coming to terms with the fact that the people that I’m sitting across from have much bigger problems than I do. They just do.
“And I sympathise with those problems, ’cause before I used to just view them as incredibly obtuse, and they don’t know what movies are about. Of course they do. They all love movies…”

Simon Kinberg explains Dark Phoenix’s release date

OHMYGOSSIP — Simon Kinberg says ‘Dark Phoenix’s release date was changed in order to suit the film’s Chinese audience.
The 45-year-old director has revealed that the upcoming X-Men movie saw its release date pushed back from February 14 until June next year because the studio wanted to attract the biggest possible audience in China.
Simon – whose movie has been handed the release date initially set aside for the ‘Gambit’ X-Men film – explained: “Some of the trailers had ‘Coming Soon’ on them and some of them said ‘February 14’.
“It was a date, February 14, that we initially liked for the movie but when we realised that we weren’t gonna have the visual effects ready to release it globally the way we wanted to, and the ‘Gambit’ date opened up because it wasn’t gonna be ready for that June 7 date.”
‘Dark Phoenix’s release date was announced shortly after the trailer made its debut.
But the studio subsequently reflected on the planned release date and decided that a later date represented a “bigger opportunity”.
Simon told Collider: “We looked at that date versus the February 14 date, the studio did and we did, we felt like that June date was a bigger opportunity for us globally.
“More screens, more IMAX screens, a better chance to play in China where these movies have a massive following. What we found when we released the trailer was that 44, 45 million views of the trailer were in China alone … Specific for us, it is an opportunity to be a bigger movie day-and-date globally.”

Liam Payne struggling solo

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Payne is finding being a solo artist “difficult”.
The ‘Strip That Down’ hitmaker admitted he’s struggled to find his “lane” alone since One Direction went their separate ways but he’s learning to “let go” and trust other people to help him achieve chart success.
He told The Sun newspaper: “It has been difficult. It is just so hard to base a sound.
“When you have a lot of guys doing a lot of different stuff, you are trying to figure out what your lane is. You don’t really have a lane going solo, so you don’t really know.
“But I am finding I am letting go a little bit more and not trying to edit in the room.
“It’s not your place to decide if it is a hit or not.”
But the 25-year-old singer could be reuniting with at least one of his bandmates soon, teasing he’s been busy with Louis Tomlinson, who he has been tipped to be helping out with on ‘The X Factor’.
He said: “I saw Louis recently for something that I cannot say.”
And Liam is hopeful he will perform with Louis, Niall Horan and Harry Styles again in the future.
He said: “I’ve been in touch with Niall and Harry a little bit. I think it would be nice if we could get back together, but we’ll see. In time. All in good time.”
The ‘Slow’ singer has recorded some songs about his relationship with former girlfriend Cheryl – the mother of his 18-month-old son Bear – but he insists their break-up hasn’t put him off performing the tracks, he just needs the right opportunity to do so.
He told the Daily Star Online: “We just haven’t found the proper place to perform the songs yet.
“I’m not against performing them but we just haven’t found the right space at the moment.
“Obviously with me not touring at the moment it is a difficult one.
“I am just trying to get my song book together properly at the moment and find the right things that represent me I guess.
“I’m not against performing them but we just haven’t found the right space at the moment.”

John Lydon slams Green Day

OHMYGOSSIP — John Lydon has branded Green Day “embarrassing”.
The Sex Pistols rocker has hit out at the ‘American Idiot’ hitmakers, insisting their idea of punk is laughable and claimed the band are just “coat hangers”.
He told the New York Times newspaper: “It is embarrassing really.
“How many bands are out there like Green Day now? I look at them and I have to laugh. They’re coat hangers, you know. A turgid version of something that doesn’t actually belong to them.”
John – who was previously known as Johnny Rotten – “separated” from punk when he realised too many people had begun to imitate him rather than stick by the ethos of the movement.
He said: “[At concerts] row 1 to 30 would be Johnny Rotten imitators.
“I thought, ‘This is going horribly wrong.’ I wasn’t doing this to create a new uniform that wasn’t any way near as good as what the Nazis had – ‘John said with the utmost possible humour.’
“That’s where punk and me separated. Punk wanted to maintain the cliché and the uniformity that it didn’t deserve. And I wanted to do new and different things, which is, to my mind, what punk is all about: Do it yourself, which means be true to yourself.”
The 62-year-old rocker believes punk has become a “caricature”, while rap is “a perfect backdrop to sell a pair of sneakers”.
Meanwhile, despite his own decades in the music industry, the Public Image Ltd frontman admitted he still gets nervous about going on stage.
He admitted: “The idea of making a fool of myself and letting people down is appalling. It’s self-torture I put myself through.”

Theo Graham gets Hollyoaks happy ending

OHMYGOSSIP — Theo Graham is really happy he left ‘Hollyoaks’ with a “happy ending”.
The 21-year-old actor bowed out of his role as Hunter McQueen in scenes that aired on E4 on Tuesday (02.10.18) when his alter ego decided to drop his revenge bid against Mac Nightingale (David Easter) in favour of a new life in Brighton with his girlfriend Asha Kaur (Rukku Nahar) and he was pleased his troubled alter ego ended his stint in Chester on a positive note.
He said: “At first I wasn’t sure when I was told about getting with Neeta’s younger sister! That was the last thing I would have guessed.
“But I was really happy that they’ve left it open for Hunter and that he’s got the happy ending that he deserves. He’s been through a lot and I love playing a happy Hunter. I’m glad he got his happy ending in the end.”
Theo’s departure came just a few weeks before a dramatic storm is due to hit the village and though he was said not to be a part of stunt week again, he’s happy that he left the show the way he did, rather than being killed off in the upcoming storyline.
Asked if he would have liked to have gone out in the storm, he told DigitalSpy:
“No, it would have been nice to have one more stunt before I went, but I did have the pleasure of being a part of the stunt last year, which I loved doing. So I got to do one stunt in my time there and I can’t complain too much.”
Though he doesn’t plan on going back to ‘Hollyoaks’, Theo won’t rule out a return in the future.
He said: “I would never say never. But right now, I feel like I’ve done what I can do in Soapland for now. So my first option wouldn’t be to come back, but I’d never rule it out. ‘Hollyoaks’ is a top place to work.”

Emmerdale to air all-female episode

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Emmerdale’ will mark International Women’s Day with an all-female episode.
The ITV soap are “really excited” about the plans for a one-off special on 8 March, and not only will the episode only feature the women in the cast, it will be made by an “almost entirely female crew”.
Show boss Jane Hudson said: “We’re doing something rather special on 8th March, International Women’s Day.
“Now we’ve got two female producers and a female executive producer – it is the first time a soap has had an all female team.
“Now don’t get me wrong, I love men, I’m a big fan of men, I’m frantically on Tinder and Bumble all the time so if anyone’s got any dating tips, let me know!
“But we are going to have an episode that is produced by a female, directed by a female and written by a female. The entire cast will be female including all the background artists and we will have almost an entire female crew.
“We’re really excited to be doing it and recognising International Women’s Day and do our bit for it.”
Before the special episode airs, the programme’s new executive producer has also teased what’s in store for viewers over the coming months.
The festive season will see a unique wedding take place, but Jane refused to say who will be tying the knot.
She said: “We have got a wedding at Christmas. I’m not going to tell you who but let’s just say it will bring a different flavour to the village than you’ve had before.”
And favourites Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) and Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) will be heading off an “adventure.”
She said: “We will be sending Paddy and Marlon off on a little adventure, next year around February time. One of them will make quite a big discovery.”
There’s also drama in store for the Dingle family.
Jane teased: “We have got huge rifts coming up in the Dingle clan that will blow apart two of our most-loved characters, and who knows if they will ever get back to where they used to be?”

Dean Ralph is suspended from The Only Way is Essex

OHMYGOSSIP — Dean Ralph has been suspended from ‘The Only Way is Essex’.
The 28-year-old reality TV star was reportedly sent back home from filming the new series in Newcastle over a the weekend after a “serious incident” took place and has now been banned from appearing in any further episodes.
A representative for the ITVBe series told The Sun Online: “We can confirm that Dean has been suspended from the show for the remainder of the series.”
It’s not yet known what Dean allegedly did in order to get the axe but bosses are said to be disgusted with his behaviour and don’t want him involved in the show.
A source explained to the publication: “Dean was sent away from ‘TOWIE’ in disgrace. What he did is a closely guarded secret but it was serious enough for bosses to take immediate action. Dean was told he was suspended from filming and left Newcastle to go back to Essex.”
The hunk is the second member of the cast to be sent home from Newcastle during filming as Jon Clark was also sent packing last week when he allegedly slapped James ‘Diags’ Bennewith following a row over a girl in Tup Tup nightclub.
A source said at the time: “Jon and Diags were both chatting up the same girl in the club. Things started to get pretty competitive between the pair.
“A fight broke out and Jon slapped Diags before they were pulled apart. Jon said he only lashed out because Diags slapped him first.”
The brawl wasn’t caught on camera, but producers are said to be furious about the public spat and will not tolerate aggressive behaviour between the cast.
The insider explained: “They weren’t filming at the time but producers found out and Jon has been sent home today. Bosses are really unhappy.”

Prue Leith likes ‘attention’ after joining GBBO

OHMYGOSSIP — Prue Leith likes the “attention” the ‘Great British Bake Off’ has brought her.
The 78-year-old restaurateur joined the baking show as a judge alongside Paul Hollywood in March 2017 after Channel 4 swiped the rights to the format from the BBC and she has admitted she loves that teenagers recognise her in the street.
Speaking to Good Housekeeping magazine, Prue – who branded herself “egotistic” – said: “I like the attention. Before ‘…Bake Off’, frankly, if you’d asked most people on the bus if they’d ever heard of me, it would probably only have been those aged over 55. But if they were 15, they wouldn’t have, and that’s the difference with ‘…Bake Off’ – it’s loved across the generations.”
And, although she previously hosted ‘Great British Menu’ on BBC Two, Prue has a new taste for baking since joining the Channel 4 series and that has inspired her to pen her first cookbook in 25 years ‘Prue: My All Time Favourite Recipes’.
She explained: “When I got on to the ‘…Bake Off’, every weekend I’d see the bakers doing this amazing stuff. It really got me back into food and I found that I was baking more. I baked more in the first year than I had in 25 years. You get lazy. It was telly that got me back into it. When I replaced Mary Berry, I had people in supermarkets asking me when my next cookbook was coming out, and they hadn’t realised that I hadn’t been writing recipes for 25 years. And I suddenly thought: ‘This is probably the time to write a new cookbook.’ ”
But it’s not just her professional life that has taken off over the past few years as Prue feels “really lucky” to be married to her husband John Playfair.
The chef – who married John in 2016 – explained: “I’ve been with John now for seven years, it took us five years to decide to do it. It just seemed like, ‘We’re so old, what’s the point really?’ Anyhow, we did it. It’s been absolutely wonderful. That made me really happy because I’d been single for 14 years – I thought that was it. At my age, you don’t expect to fall in love again, so I’ve been really lucky.”
