Oprah Winfrey scared by online diagnosis

OHMYGOSSIP — Oprah Winfrey feared the “worst” after seeking an online diagnosis when she fell ill.
The 64-year-old media mogul turned to the Internet when the left side of her chin swelled up but was scared by the results she found when she searched for “swollen lymph gland causes”.
She wrote in an essay for O, The Oprah Magazine: “None of the results were good. For the next four hours, I thought the worst. Why would a neck suddenly swell? Maybe it wasn’t sudden. Maybe whatever it was had been growing for days, or longer, and I only now noticed.”
Oprah immediately booked a doctor’s appointment, where she expected to be told she had a “terrible disease” – so was stunned when she was given the real diagnosis and a simple solution to combat her symptoms.
She continued: “When I finally opened my mouth to say ‘ahhh,’ I was prepared for the doctor to say, ‘I’m so sorry, Ms. Winfrey, you have. Insert terrible disease.’
“What she actually said was, ‘I think your salivary glands are blocked. Go home, drink plenty of water, and try sucking on some lemons to stimulate your salivary ducts.’ ”
The ‘Wrinkle in Time’ star was so stunned by the doctor’s verdict, she went for a second opinion – and received the same diagnosis.
She added: “I couldn’t believe it. I’d worked myself up to a blood pressure reading of 150/80 thinking about how I was going to rearrange my life to deal with whatever this was. Drinking water and sucking on lemons couldn’t be the answer.
“So I called another doctor. Sent photos of my bloated neck and said ‘ahhh’ over FaceTime.
“He confirmed: salivary gland blockage, inflammation. Drink lots of water. Suck on a lemon or a sour lemon candy.”
After following advice, Oprah’s symptoms quickly disappeared.
She said: “I downed a half gallon of lemon-flavoured water and sucked and puckered lemon slices through the night. By the next day, the swelling had gone down measurably. In two days, it had all but disappeared.”

Modelling helped Holly Willoughby ‘come out of her shell’

OHMYGOSSIP — Modelling helped Holly Willoughby “come out of her shell”.
The 37-year-old TV personality – who rose to fame at the age of 14 after being scouted by top agency Storm and posing for teen magazines like Mizz – has claimed that modelling helped to boost her self-confidence.
Speaking on the ‘Beauty Full Lives’ podcast with Madeleine Spencer, Holly said: “I really think it helped me come out of my shell because I wasn’t the most confident person at school.
“All my school friends still can’t understand how I’m doing the job that I’m doing because they’re like, ‘You were the one with your sleeve pulled down over your hand and your jumper over your mouth because you were too scared to look anyone in the eye.'”
The ‘This Morning’ host also revealed the “functional” contents of her make-up bag, which includes Caudalie Beauty Elixir facial spray, a pencil from Lily Lilo, Eyeko’s Waterproof Shadow Liner, and a Burt’s Bees lipstick.
The blonde beauty insisted she has a simple approach to skincare as she didn’t grow up in a house with lots of “pots and potions and lotions”.
She said: “I didn’t grow up looking at my mum and seeing all these pots and potions and lotions and think, ‘Oh my god, this is the world for me I love all of this.’
“But at the same time that probably gave me quite a healthy outlook on it all which was it wasn’t something, it wasn’t like, ‘Oh Holly, you must look after your skin you must look after your skin.'”

Mia Farrow doesn’t care about Woody Allen

OHMYGOSSIP — Mia Farrow hasn’t cared about Woody Allen “for many years”.
The 73-year-old actress split from the ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’ director in 1992 after she discovered he had explicit photos of her adopted daughter Soon-Yi Previn – who he went on to marry in 1997 when she was 21 – but she put her feelings for him aside a long time ago.
She said: “I reached a place many years ago where I just don’t care about him.”
But the ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ star insists things weren’t all clear cut between herself and Woody.
She told the new issue of America’s ELLE magazine: “It’s not all white or black. Otherwise you’d ask yourself what on Earth you’re doing with that person for 10 minutes, let alone for 10 years.”
In 2014, Mia’s daughter, Dylan Farrow, wrote an open letter to the New York Times in which she accused the 82-year-old filmmaker of abusing her as a child, and while Woody has denied the allegations, her brother Ronan Farrow wrote a column for the Hollywood Reporter earlier this year in defence of his sister.
But the veteran actress had no idea her children were planning to write the articles because she didn’t see the need to bring it back to the forefront, though she “understands and deeply respects” Dylan’s reasons for speaking out.
She said: “Both of them wrote their pieces without telling me. Because for me, it’s the sleeping dog that you don’t want to rouse. But I also understand and deeply respect when my daughter decided she needed to do this.”
The #MeToo movement has made Mia – who raised 14 children – reconsider her own past and she admitted she has had some “really awful” experiences.
She said: “Oh, Lordy, I wish there were tapes. The first really awful grope was a very famous head of a studio. I was 17. I was too embarrassed to even tell my mother.”

Shawn Mendes has scooter scars

OHMYGOSSIP — Shawn Mendes has been left scarred after falling off a scooter last month.
The ‘Stitches’ hitmaker took a tumble on a motorised street vehicle while in Nashville, Tennessee, injuring his eye and bruising his hands, and though he’s no longer in pain, he’s been left with a lasting reminder of the accident.
He told ‘Extra’: “I messed up my hands. But it’s all kind of healed… I have scars.”
Shawn also admitted his mishap occurred because he was trying to copy a trick his friend had shown him.
He explained: “I fell off of one of those electric scooters. I was trying to do a trick. My friend was behind me and was like, ‘Can you do this?’ Tried to copy him.”
The 20-year-old singer previously put his injuries down to being an “idiot”.
He said: “It has nothing to do with the scooter. It has everything to do with being an idiot, being 20.”
Shawn explained his injuries occurred after he turned to look behind him and he decided to let his face take the brunt of the accident rather than try and break his fall with his hands as he needed to play guitar for his ‘CMT Crossroads’ concert special with the Zac Brown Band, which was the reason why he was in Tennessee.
But the ‘In My Blood’ singer insisted the incident hadn’t put him off using the motorised mode of transport in the future.
He said: “If anybody asked me if they should ride them, I would say yes.”
And not only that, but after picking himself back up from his fall, he’d jumped straight back onto the scooter again.
He admitted: “I rode it back to the hotel.”

BBC bosses told Lord Sugar to remove Amstrad phone from Apprentice boardroom

OHMYGOSSIP — Lord Alan Sugar once handed out an infamous rollicking when BBC bosses told him to remove his Amstrad phone from ‘The Apprentice’ boardroom.
The billionaire businessman was told he couldn’t use the phone – made by the company he founded age 21 in 1968 – and his former adviser Nick Hewer has revealed how the star reacted when producers delivered the news.
He told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: “In one of the very early episodes, somebody from Compliance intervened on set and said, ‘I’m terribly sorry, Sir Alan, but we can’t allow an Amstrad phone on your desk in the boardroom because that would be considered promoting your product’.
“He said, ‘Right, so whose boardroom is this?’ ‘Yours, Sir Alan.’ ‘And what does my company make?’ ‘Phones, Sir Alan.’
“‘Yeah. So do you think in real life I would have a Philips phone on my desk?’ ”
The ‘Countdown’ host – who left the BBC show after nine years in 2014 – has opened up in the past about behind the scenes secrets from his time on the reality show.
He previously claimed producers wanted Lord Sugar to make sure more attractive candidates were kept on longer to boost ratings.
He said: “I’d say to him, ‘Oh, by the way Alan, the blonde, he or she is as thick as a fridge door. I urge you, with every fibre of my being, to get rid of them because they’re going to let you down’.
“And the producers will say, ‘Do you think you could find it in your heart to not get rid of the blonde just yet?’ He will say, ‘The blonde will go when the blonde deserves to go’.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Lucy Fallon has never had a cup of tea in her life.
The ‘Coronation Street’ star has gone a massive 22 years without ever sipping the aromatic beverage, despite the UK being one of the world’s greatest tea consumers since the 18th century, but insists she doesn’t ever intend to sip the likes of builders, breakfast, or Earl Grey for as long as she lives.
She tweeted: “never had a cup of tea in my life and I intend to keep it that way x (sic)”
The ‘Corrie’ actress’ omission shocked a number of the Twittersphere, including her co-star Georgia Taylor (Toyah Battersby), who admitted Lucy’s surprise beverage boast had left her feeling “a bit sad”.

She tweeted: “It’s just the way it smells I can’t get onboard with it (sic)”

Ariana Grande took break from music because she’s ‘been through hell’

OHMYGOSSIP — Ariana Grande has confirmed she’s taking a break from music after being through “hell”.
The ‘No Tears Left To Cry’ hitmaker – whose ex-boyfriend Mac Miller tragically died last month – defended herself after a fan criticised her recent album ‘Sweetener’ when she teased her followers with an “official video” for ‘Breathin’, which turned out to be a three minute clip of her pet pig.
Responding to someone branding her output as “lazy”, Arina fired back: “This era is beautiful to me but idk. Been thru hell and back and I’m doing my best to keep going.
“Thought this would make u laugh while u wait for the real one bc i took a break to take care of myself for a lil while. My b (Sic)”
Her comments come after the 25-year-old singer – who only just released her fourth LP in August – revealed she’s hoping to get another record out within the next few months.
Photographer Miles Diggs spotted Ariana and her fiance Pete Davidson in New York on Wednesday (10.10.18) and asked if she’ll release a new album by the end of the year.
Ariana said: “Yes.”
When the photographer said he was “excited” by the news, she replied: “Me too!”
Meanwhile, Ariana – who recently admitted she was scared by the idea of touring – will return to the stage on Saturday (13.10.18) to perform at the first-ever Barbara Berlanti Heroes Gala benefiting F**k Cancer in Los Angeles.
She will also take to the stage at The Chelsea in The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas on December 29 to kick off the last weekend of the year, with Imagine Dragons returning to their hometown two days later to ring in 2019.

OHMYGOSSIP — Drake is officially Spotify’s most streamed artist of all time.
The hip hop star’s album ‘Scorpion’ had 745.9 million audio streams for its songs during its first week, and he has found himself ahead of Ed Sheeran, Eminem and Rihanna at the top of the rankings.
Celebrating a decade since its launch, Spotify, has unveiled the most popular artists and songs on its platform.
While The Weeknd rounds off the overall top five, he’s followed by Kanye West, Coldplay, Justin Bieber, Calvin Harris and Ariana Grande on the rankings.
‘Shape of You’ singer Ed finds himself top of the pile with his hit being named the most streamed song of all time, ahead of Drake’s ‘Just Dance’ and ‘Closer’ by The Chainsmokers and Halsey.

Hailee Steinfeld to host MTV EMAs

OHMYGOSSIP — Hailee Steinfeld will host the 2018 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs).
The ‘Pitch Perfect’ actress – who is nominated for Best Pop Act – will also perform at the ceremony, which takes place at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre in Spain on 4 November, and “can’t wait” to get involved.
She said: “The EMAs are a show where anything can happen. I can’t wait to host a night filled with incredible artists, performances, some surprises of my own – let’s do this, Bilbao!”
And MTV bosses are “thrilled” to have signed up the 21-year-old singer-and-actress as they think her “incredible energy” is just what the show needs.
Bruce Gillmer, global head of music and talent, Viacom and co-brand head, MTV International, said in a statement: “Hailee is a true global superstar renowned for her exceptional talent with a career that spans music, film and TV.
“We are thrilled to have her as host for this year’s MTV EMAs in Bilbao and can’t wait to see her light up the stage with her incredible energy.”
Camila Cabello leads the nominations for the EMAs, as she’s up for six awards, including the prestigious Best Artist list.
However, the 21-year-old singer – who left her band Fifth Harmony in 2016 in order to go solo – will have to fight off some stiff competition if she’s to bag the big prize as she’s up against Ariana Grande, Drake, Dua Lipa and Post Malone.
The brunette beauty will also go head-to-head with Ariana and Dua for the Best Pop Artist prize, which also includes Hailee and Shawn Mendes, as well as the Best Video category and Best Song for her hit ‘Havana’ ft. Young Thug.
She’s also been recognised for her fan base – securing her a nod in the Best Fans category – while her final nomination could see her bag the prize for the Best US Act – providing she manages to fight off competition from Ariana, Cardi B, Imagine Dragons and Post Malone.
Although Camila could come out on top and be the biggest winner of the night, Ariana and Post Malone are nipping at her heels with four nominations each.

OHMYGOSSIP — Priyanka Chopra feels “different” now she’s engaged to Nick Jonas.
The ‘Jealous’ hitmaker proposed to the ‘Quantico’ actress in July and she admitted their pledge to get married has brought them even closer together and they now feel more like “family”.
Priyanka told E! News: “I’m excited. It’s a very different feeling. I never realised that having a boyfriend and having a fiancé are completely different.
“It just feels different. There’s gravitas. You feel like family, which is just so different.”
Though the couple had only been dating for a few months when they got engaged, they had known one another for some time and the 36-year-old actress revealed they bonded over their shared love of “family and faith”.
She said: “We’ve known each other for a couple of years but we dated for just a little while, but I think that’s the one thing we really connect on is our love for family and knowing faith is so important to us.”
Her comments echoed similar sentiments that 26-year-old Nick recently expressed.
He said: “I can go into all of it and get all mushy, but I think the thing that really connected both of us was our love for family and faith and the importance of being connected to those.
“They are always going to be there for you. We found that in each other as well, which is a beautiful thing and I’m excited to start our lives together.”
Meanwhile, Priyanka – who began dating Nick in May – recently spoke of her wish to start a family within the next decade.
She said: “I am a very ‘live in the today,’ maximum ‘live in the next two months’ kind of person. But [in] 10 years, I definitely want to have kids. That is, it’s going to happen in the next 10 years. Well, hopefully earlier than that. I’m very fond of children and I want to be able to do that.”

Camila Mendes had to speak out about struggles

OHMYGOSSIP — Camila Mendes thinks it was “necessary” to speak about her battle with bulimia.
The ‘Riverdale’ actress went public with her eating disorder struggles last year and she hopes her story will inspire others to confront their own issues as she wants to be a positive role model.
She said: “It just felt so necessary for me to speak about those things.
“I realised that I have this platform, and young women and men who look up to me, and there is a tremendous power to do something positive with it.”
And the 24-year-old actress admits she takes strength and gains more confidence when other celebrities open up about their own body battles.
She told the new issue of Shape magazine: “This body-positivity movement we’re having right now is so amazing and it’s helping me so much. I’m seeing all these people I look up to, like Rihanna, open up about their weight fluctuations and loving themselves the way they are. That makes me love myself more too.”
In order to stay healthy, Camila makes sure she takes some time for herself and has also found support from a therapist and a nutritionist.
As a result, the brunette beauty has stopped dieting and just makes sure she eats healthily and is “proud” she’s overcome her problems.
She said: “I was always on some kind of weird diet but I haven’t been on one since. I’m very proud of myself.”
But that doesn’t mean the actress doesn’t still have days when she feels insecure, so she’s come up with a mantra to help her through moments of low confidence.
She tells herself: “You’re fine. You look good. This is your prime, so enjoy it.”

Louisa Lytton ‘surprised’ by EastEnders plot reaction

OHMYGOSSIP — Louisa Lytton has been contacted by people who were able to “confirm” they were raped after watching her latest ‘EastEnders’ storyline kick off.
The 29-year-old star’s character Ruby Allen confided in pal Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) about a night out earlier this week, only to seem shocked when the former market trader told her she had been raped by one of the guys she slept with.
And Louisa was “surprised” to be told similar accounts from real-life victims on social media after the episode played out.
She said: “I was quite surprised, I’ve had loads of people contact me directly on social media just saying, ‘This is the closure I’ve needed for so long, this incident happened to me 10 years ago, I questioned whether it was rape or not this episode has confirmed to me that in fact it was.’ ”
Louisa was left shocked by the instant reaction to the beginning of Ruby’s rape storyline, which is focusing on the subject of consent.
She said: “I was surprised myself actually just how quickly that reaction has happened. That’s the whole point of this storyline to hopefully open that conversation for men and women and hopefully educate.
“It is important that it’s done right.”
And Louisa is “grateful” she has been “trusted” to take on such a big storyline upon her return to the BBC One soap.
Speaking on ‘Lorraine’, she added: “I got a phone call from [show boss] John Yorke to say, ‘We’d love to bring your character back and here’s the nature of the story’.
“I was grateful to be trusted with such an important storyline.”
The former ‘The Bill’ star recently admitted the plot will “split the audience”.
She said: “Ruby goes on a night out and gets raped in the first few weeks of her return, so I’ve gone back for quite a massive storyline.
“But initially it’s to see her old mate Stacey, who she casually hasn’t seen for 12 years and thinks she’ll throw a text at.
“It’s very important. ‘EastEnders’ has such a diverse audience. They’ve just covered the massive knife crime storyline, and this is more of a consent storyline, showing that it’s not really a grey area.
“I’m working with Rape Crisis, I’m pretty much in contact with them every day. They oversee every script. They’ve been brilliant.
“I think it will really split the audience, their views on consent and what happens to her.”

Dame Judi Dench voices support for a female James Bond

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Judi Dench would welcome a female James Bond.
The 83-year-old actress – who starred in eight Bond movies – has admitted she cannot see a reason why another female star could not assume the iconic role of 007 one day.
She explained: “If you’re good at being a spy you could maybe be a female James Bond. I have no idea why not.”
The next Bond movie is being helmed by the American director Cary Joji Fukunaga, after Danny Boyle walked away from the project earlier this year.
Judi and Cary previously worked together on the 2011 romantic drama ‘Jane Eyre’, and she’s backed the director to make a success of ‘Bond 25’.
She told Collider: “I did ‘Jane Eyre’ for Cary and he’s absolutely a sweet person. I want to get a message to him to say how glad I am that he’s doing it.
“I’m sure he’ll give his own take on it and that will be refreshing. I expect he’ll do it very, very well. And Ralph Fiennes I expect will play M very well – she said through gritted teeth!”
Asked whether she feels sad to have left the role of M – who is Bond’s superior – Judi revealed that she hasn’t actually seen the most-recent film in the franchise, 2015’s ‘Spectre’.
She admitted: “I did eight of them, because I did one morning on ‘Spectre’. I haven’t seen ‘Spectre’. M sent a message over the telly. She was on the television for a minute or something like that. So I can say I did eight.”

Chris Hemsworth felt ‘intimidated’ by Jeff Bridges

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Hemsworth found working with Jeff Bridges to be an intimidating experience.
The Australian actor appears alongside the veteran star in the dark comedy ‘Bad Times at the El Royale’, and Chris has admitted to being a little overwhelmed about working with such an accomplished performer.
He shared: “It was very intimidating to walk onto a set with someone who’s that talented, who is such a great actor.
“You are instantly absorbed into the scene because of what he is doing and how present he is. His energy and talent forces you to be 100 percent in the moment, to react and act with him. It was a pretty special experience.”
The Drew Goddard-directed film also features the likes of Jon Hamm and Dakota Johnson.
And Chris, 35 – who is best-known for playing Thor in the Marvel movies – relished the experience of working with the star-studded cast.
He told the National newspaper: “The cast was incredible.
“Every character was an integral piece of this puzzle. If one person had dropped the ball, it wasn’t going to work.
“It was one of the most collaborative sets I’ve been on. There was such exploration within all our characters and we were encouraged to find different elements to these people we portrayed.”
Chris stars as Billy Lee, a charismatic cult leader, in the new movie, and he’s admitted to loving the challenge of the role.
He explained: “I desperately wanted to do something like this, and not just for the sake of being a villain.
“There are certain rules when you are playing the hero of a film.
“I’ve spent a lot of my career playing the hero, which becomes predictable, and so, to be unpredictable and turn left when you should turn right, and continually keep yourself guessing was great. I wanted everything to feel foreign and different from what I’d done before. Part of that was having such an incredible script.
“You know, I think it is really good to roll the dice and take new risks like this. It was very satisfying and enjoyable.”

Viola Davis hails her Widows co-stars

OHMYGOSSIP — Viola Davis relished working with a “fabulous group of women” on ‘Widows’.
The acclaimed actress stars as a widow in the new Steve McQueen-directed movie, in which four women try to finish the heist first started by their husbands, and Viola has heaped praise on her “unfiltered” co-stars Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki and Cynthia Erivo.
Speaking at the movie’s premiere in London’s Leicester Square on Wednesday night (10.10.18), Viola told Edith Bowman: “It was a fabulous group of women – Michelle, Cynthia, Elizabeth. A fabulous group because they are unfiltered, untethered…”
‘Widows’ is based on a TV series of the same name and Steve previously admitted that good fortune played a significant role in the film.
The award-winning movie-maker was a huge fan of Lynda La Plante’s ground-breaking TV drama, but he only pursued the project after a fortuitous meeting with the British screenwriter.
He previously recalled: “I met Lynda La Plante at Buckingham Palace, as you do, lining up to meet the Queen at an arts event – Lenny Henry and Angela Lansbury were there – and I asked her what happened to the movie rights to ‘Widows’.”
At the time, the rights belonged to Disney, but New Regency, the studio through which he made ’12 Years A Slave’, subsequently purchased the film.
Steve then set to work on a contemporary version of the show.
He explained: “These disparate women have to learn to come together because their lives depend on it.
“I had a two-hour lunch with Lynda and one of the things she told me was that the real women she based her ‘Widows’ on had their backs against the wall, and had steel and determination.”

Primal Scream rediscover ‘perfect’ album

OHMYGOSSIP — Primal Scream “made the perfect album” but decided to scrap it.
The indie rock group – now comprised of Bobby Gillespie, Andrew Innes, Martin Duffy, Darrin Mooney, Barrie Cadogan and Simone Butler – recorded a different version of their 1994 LP ‘Give Out But Don’t Give Up’ but “panicked” after coming to the conclusion that it was “so well played” it didn’t sound like a Primal Scream album.
Speaking to The Times newspaper, guitarist Innes said: “I don’t know what we were thinking. It was so slick, so nice, so well played that we panicked. It sounded too grown-up.”
Singer Gillespie added: “We made a perfect album: three rockers, six ballads and a centrepiece. Then we replaced it with something patchy. We confused ourselves.”
Innes recently found the long-forgotten tapes marked “Ardent Studios” whilst he was clearing out his basement and remembered the group had recorded with renowned producer Tom Dowd – who had worked with the likes of Otis Redding and Aretha Franklin – in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and Ardent Studios, Memphis.
Innes said: “We were in a state. ‘Screamadelica’ left us in a weird place. Everything we dreamt of since the age of 16 had come true. What do you do after that? We had a blank future. We had been on a huge high, living the rock ‘n’ roll dream, and then, boom, it ends. Noel Gallagher wrote three albums’ worth of songs before Oasis broke. We had nothing.”
Although the released version of the record featured future classics such as ‘Jailbird’, ‘(I’m Gonna) Cry Myself Blind’ and ‘Rocks’, Gillespie believes that Primal Scream went into the sessions on a “comedown” following the enormous success of dance-indie LP ‘Screamadelica’ and that changed the spirit of the band.
The frontman said: “I remember thinking ‘This will be a downer record’. After the euphoria of ‘Screamadelica’ we were writing sad, slow songs because we were on a massive comedown. And there was no getting wasted because we were working with serious people … We had to step up.”
Primal Scream’s ‘Give Out But Don’t Give Up: The Original Memphis Recordings’ is available from Friday (12.10.18).
