Melissa McCarthy relished serious role in Can You Ever Forgive Me?

OHMYGOSSIP — Melissa McCarthy relished playing a serious role in ‘Can You Ever Forgive Me?’.
The 48-year-old actress – who is best-known for her comedic performances – plays the late author Lee Israel, who went from being a celebrity biographer to a literary forger, in the new movie, and Melissa has insisted she enjoyed the challenge.
She said: “I love a very flawed, challenging character.
“You still root for them because whatever they’re doing on the surface is not really what’s happening on the inside.
“We all play with different defence mechanisms, and Lee’s was to be as prickly and difficult as possible. But I always thought, ‘What is she hiding? What’s going on the inside?'”
Despite this, Melissa admitted it was difficult to really develop a deep understanding of the real-life person behind her performance.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: “She barely took any pictures. There’s absolutely no video of her.”
Melissa stars in the movie alongside Richard E. Grant, and he’s admitted that a character like Israel is a breath of fresh air.
He explained: “She’s so authentically herself. She’s unapologetic.
“The era we live in now with social media, everybody has the perfect life – perfect food, or the perfect look, everything – but you see on a daily basis that people are sharing their lives. Lee is the antithesis of that.
“She’s completely authentic to her grumpy self, and somebody who doesn’t give in at all, or doesn’t give a nod to political correctness in any shape or fame. I think it’s sort of liberating, and to be admired in a certain way.”

Tom Cruise won’t say no to anything

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Cruise never says “no” to anything.
Christopher McQuarrie has worked with the actor on multiple occasions including on ‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’ and says the legendary actor never says no to any of his ideas and instead just says if something is boring.
He said: “Here’s what Tom says, he says ‘Booooo’. Pitch him something, he’ll say, ‘Booo. Boring,’ there’s no bones about it. But no, he never says no.:”
And Christopher feels lucky because the studio never says no either.
He added to Collider.com: “The studio winces. I’ve never personally heard from the insurance company, that’s Jake Myers’ job, the producer. Extraordinary producer Jake Myers, who produced not only this, but also Rogue Nation. He produced the the the last few Chris Nolan films, came in on The Revenant. He’s an incredible, incredible producer, who manages to wrangle all those people so I don’t have to.”
However, there may come a time when Cruise has to take a step back from the stunts as he broke his ankle while shooting the new film ‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’.
He said previously: “When you’re doing these things, stuff like that happens. It was a hard hit, and I was trying to mitigate the hit. I thought, ‘Well, I’m just going to touch my foot,’ and I just kept it there for, really, a split-second too long, to try to soften the impact of the side of the wall. I was like, ‘It’s broken, I know it’s broken, just keep going and run past the camera so that we have the shot.’ That was the first thing I thought: Just get through the shot.”

Damien Chazelle: ‘Gosling reminds me of Armstrong’

OHMYGOSSIP — Damien Chazelle chose Ryan Gosling to play Neil Armstrong because they have many traits in common.
Astronaut Neil had a reputation for being “cool under pressure, as well as notoriously private and introverted” and Damien admitted they were some of the main reasons he asked his ‘La La Land’ actor Ryan to star in ‘First Man’, which tells the story of the 1969 Apollo 11 mission to the moon.
He told The Hollywood Reporter: “I first pitched this movie to Ryan before we’d even done ‘La La Land’ together. So, I didn’t know him personally when I first thought of him for Neil. I just knew him as an actor. I’d always wanted to work with him; I think he’s one of the great actors of his time. Specifically, he has this unique ability to say so much with so little. For Neil, who was a man of such few words, I just knew I would need an actor who could communicate a tremendous amount of emotion and complexity of feeling, sometimes without any dialogue at all, or with just a simple one-sentence line. So all of that led me to Ryan, but getting to work with Ryan on ‘La La Land’ in between was further affirmation in my mind to just how great he could be in the role. He’s such an immersive actor, he’s such a dedicated actor, he just goes full out and builds his characters from the ground up. It just made me all the more excited to get on the set with him for this movie.”
And Damien, 33, loved getting the change to portray the real man behind the heroic astronaut.
He said: “It was removing the veneer of mythology that I think has separated us and people of our generation from those events. We kind of think of it as though it were superheroes or Greek mythology. We don’t really think of people like Neil Armstrong as an ordinary, [at times] uncertain, doubtful, scared, happy, sad, going-through-stuff human being. Rooting it at the human level, especially the family level through Neil and his wife Janet and what they were going through together, is what interested me. It felt like that would be the perspective through which we could then tell the audience a lot of things they didn’t know. Because Neil was so private, we know so little about his private life, emotional life or all the emotional upheavals that he went through, that Janet went through, during that time. We also don’t really know about what actually went on behind closed doors at NASA, and in those spacecrafts.”

Rita Ora to auction off stage outfits

OHMYGOSSIP — Rita Ora is thinking of selling all her old tour outfits.
The ‘I Will Never Let You Down’ hitmaker has kept all the garments she has previously worn on stage, but is running out of space at home to store them so may offer fans the chance to buy a piece of her pop history.
She said: “My home is a little messy. There are clothes all over the place. When I want to open the door, things fall out. It’s mostly stuff I’ve worn at shows, maybe I’ll do an exhibition or sell them.”
The 27-year-old singer is preparing to release her new album ‘Phoenix’ and even though it has been a long journey to get it our, Rita doesn’t feel much different to when she brought out her debut record, ‘Ora’, six years ago.
Speaking to OK! magazine, she said: “A debut album is always easier than every album that follows, and that’s because you are fresh on the scene, which is way easier. I’m the same person but I’m a bit older. I’ll be 28 when the album comes out.”
Rita grew up in London but is very proud of her Kosovoan roots and is grateful she never experienced any discrimination in the UK capital which she insists is a wonderful and diverse city.
She said: “In the beginning, it was like, ‘Where are you from?’ When I said Kosovo, people would say, ‘Where’s that?’ But I was lucky, my class was full of different ethnicities, religions and races. I talk about my country all the time. When I started in this game in 2012, I was the only singer from Kosovo who made it out of there. So it’s my responsibility to talk about my country and put it on the map. I’m very proud of it.”

Chas Hodges memorial concert announced

OHMYGOSSIP — A memorial concert for Chas Hodges will take place in December.
The ‘Ain’t No Pleasing You’ singer – of Chas and Dave fame – passed away last month at the age of 74 from pneumonia and he will be remembered with a star-studded London concert on December 17, hosted by his music partner Dave Peacock.
A message on the pair’s joint Twitter account said: “An evening of music and entertainment in memory of Chas Hodges. Shepherd’s Bush Empire, Dec 17th. ‘It’ll be very strange for me playing a show without my mate. But I’m sure he’d have been well-pleased with the line-up that will be paying tribute to him.’ Dave Peacock.”
The tweet also featured a poster advertising the concert, with a picture of the late singer.
Joe Brown, Albert Lee, Paul Whitehouse, Matt Lucas, Martin Taylor, Ralph McTell, Ed Tudor Pole, Jackie Lynton and Richard Smith will be among the acts performing.
It has also been revealed that Chas’ private funeral was held earlier this week.
His team said on Twitter: “Thank you to all who got in touch asking about Chas’ funeral details. We held a small, private service earlier this week for Chas.”
However, the memorial concert will give fans a chance to pay their respects to the late star.
All proceeds from the concert will go to Chas’ favourite charity, WaterAid.
The Chas and Dave star was believed to have died of oesophageal cancer, however his relatives have since learned that the disease was “under control” before he passed away peacefully and he was in fact battling pneumonia at the time of his death.
His family added that the ‘Ain’t No Pleasing You’ singer would have felt comforted to know that other people fighting cancer continue to believe “hope remains” in beating the disease.
A statement posted Twitter previously stated: “For the record, we would like to clarify that Chas did not die of cancer.
“The doctor’s final diagnostic was pneumonia and the cancer was under control at the time of death.
“We feel this is important to state as Chas wanted to bring comfort and hope to people suffering with cancer through his own experience with the disease, and it would mean a lot to him that the hope remains.”
Chas & Dave rose to fame in the 1970s for their eclectic mix of music from the pop and folk genre. Their hits include ‘Ain’t No Pleasing You’, ‘The Sideboard Song’ and ‘Rabbit’.

Justin Bieber under pressure to release new music

OHMYGOSSIP — Justin Bieber feels under pressure to release new music.
The 24-year-old singer -who recently tied the knot with Hailey Baldwin – is enjoying a break from his career and is not ready to get back on tour.
A source told PEOPLE: “Justin is feeling a lot of pressure right now and it makes him unhappy.
“People have expectations that he will produce new music, but he hasn’t been feeling inspired. He wants to take his time and not feel rushed about work. He knows with new music, he will also be expected to tour and he absolutely doesn’t want to.”
Justin is also reluctant to work on new music as he wants to enjoy time with his bride.
The insider explained: “Right now, he wants to be left alone with Hailey. He wants to enjoy being with her and not think about work. He thinks he should be allowed to just be for a while longer.”
Justin’s last album was 2015’s ‘Purpose’.
Meanwhile, Justin’s manager Scooter Braun recently admitted he discovered the star “by mistake on YouTube”.
The 37-year-old music manager – whose roster includes Justin, ‘Sweetener’ hitmaker Ariana Grande and Carly Rae Jepsen, among others – used social media to find artists when he started his business and said he was instantly “blown away” when he accidentally discovered the ‘Sorry’ hitmaker.
Scooter said: “I started my business in freshman year. I did that for three-and-a-half years and I had all these ideas about social media and no one was listening to me. Music artists were at their biggest when there was a feeling of self-discovery. For these kids it was social media. By starting my own record label and management company, I signed a kid off MySpace named Asher Roth, then after finding Asher, I went on YouTube and saw by mistake, a kid singing who had 60,000 views in his church in Canada and I was blown away with what I saw. I knew I could make this kid one of the biggest artists in the world, I just knew instantly. That was Justin Bieber, a 12 year old singing in a church, and I called every school district in that part of Ontario until his mum called to get rid of me and I convinced her to get on the first plane she and he had ever been on.”

Tracee Ellis Ross wears all black designers to AMAs

OHMYGOSSIP — American Music Awards host Tracee Ellis Ross promoted racial inclusivity with her 10 wardrobe changes at the ceremony.
The ‘Girlfriends’ star was back hosting the show and announced to the crowd and TV audience that she would be wearing all “black designers” whilst on stage.
She opened proceedings by requesting everybody watching to “dial up their compassion, dial down their judgment and literally act like they’re rooting for one of their best friends doing a talent show.”
Tracee then participated in a dance routine in which she wore a navy blue sequin Nicolas Jebran catsuit and floor-length Dapper Dan x Gucci cape and then revealed that, for her, the night was “also about clothes”.
She said: “I will feature black designers in all of my looks tonight.
“Might finally make it on to the Shaderoom and if you don’t know what the Shaderoom is, it’s the black TMZ.”
Earlier, Tracee impressed on the carpet in a baby pink Pyer Moss power suit featuring black lapels, she later dazzled in gold CD Greene gown and a red floor-length Shanel Campbell skirt paired with a white t-shirt emblazoned with the phrase ‘ I am a voter’.
Other looks included a tulle dress by Off-White, a Sergio Hudson leopard print bodysuit, a Claude Lavie Kameni floral dress, a glittering black Balmain evening gown, a blue Dehson dress and a bold red Cushnie jumpsuit.
Ahead of the show, the 45-year-old actress admitted she was very excited about the inclusive theme of the 2018 AMAs and a sign of the changing times.
She told PEOPLE: “We have a really specific theme this year – a story that I’m telling about who is making all of the clothes – but I will keep that a secret and share that during the show.
“That feels really special to me and very exciting, and that was sort of our guiding force and kind of the marching orders I gave Karla [Welch] in how to go out and hunt for things in that particular theme.
“Karla and I work so well together. Other than that, it’s just whatever looks good on my body, and makes me feel comfortable and powerful; all different kinds of clothes make my heart sing.”

Versace bringing back Notorious B.I.G. signature sunglasses

OHMYGOSSIP — Notorious B.I.G’s signature Versace sunglasses are making a comeback.
The rapper frequently wore the accessory at the height of his career – including for the video for hit song ‘Hypnotize’ – and the luxury Italian fashion house has decided to bring back the iconic glasses, 20 years after the artist’s death.
The sunglasses have been given a contemporary make-over and the classic curved frames have now been changed into hexagonal low-lens design – in keeping with the recent trend for retro cat-eye and oval framed glasses – and will be released as part of the fashion brand’s The Clans Collection.
The new glasses will still feature the label’s trademark gold Medusa design and will be sold exclusively at Barney’s stores in the US, for $295 (£225).
Donatella Versace – who took over the fashion house in 1997 following the murder of her brother Gianni Versace and has now sold it to Michael Kors – and she had a close relationship with the rapper.
The 63-year-old designer often saw Biggie – real name Christopher Wallace – during her runway shows in Paris and has previously insisted that his references to Versace in his lyrics were pivotal into making the fashion house a global brand.
She previously said: “I think Biggie was amazing. He came to my shows in Paris many times, and we’d see each other often. He always used to talk so nicely about my family. I think he was so smart, so intelligent. He had such a mind.
“So I loved what he was doing and how he was giving people a way to know about Versace – I do think he was giving people a way to know about Versace, I do think a lot of people started to know about Versace because of him.”

Zendaya doesn’t care if people don’t like her outfit

OHMYGOSSIP — Zendaya doesn’t care if people don’t like her clothes.
The 22-year-old actress believes that “whole point of fashion” is to divide opinion and every look she creates with her long-time stylist Law Roach is “an emotional thing”.
In an interview with Vogue, she said: “The whole point of fashion is to be polarising. Not everybody is going to like it, and not everybody is going to hate it. It’s supposed to be a discussion. If you don’t like it, that’s fine.
“When I do wear clothes with Law, I think it’s an emotional thing. There’s always a reference to a time period, or a specific person or era. There’s also a feeling and a story behind it.
“The last Met Ball, I felt like I was Joan of Arc. I was in character! It was some Game of Thrones s**t.”
The ‘Spiderman: Homecoming’ actress has admitted that although a lot of her fellow actors don’t enjoy attending red carpets, she “loves the glamour” and spends her time practicing her poses for photographers.
She said: “I enjoy red carpets. A lot of actors don’t like them, but I’d rather do the carpet and nothing else. I’m the opposite.
“People want to avoid the pictures–I love it! I’ve practiced [posing], I’m ready. I love the glamour of it. It’s fun, because I get to play different characters.
“Through fashion, I have been able to find self-confidence.”
The ‘Greatest Showman’ star has worked with Law for so long, he feels like “family” to her now.
She said: “I’ve worked with him since I was 14 years old. He’s my one and only. He’s family to me. We met through a family friend.
“I was obsessed with fashion at a young age–I was so in awe of the world, but I was ballin’ on a budget, so I didn’t have the means to enjoy it.
“I met him and he came in and he had this beautiful vintage YSL bag, and I asked him, ‘Oh my god, is that a YSL?’ And he was like, ‘Of course.’ And then I was like, ‘We’re soul mates.'”

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s ‘post-pregnancy’ acne

OHMYGOSSIP — Rosie Huntington-Whiteley “struggles to deal” with her hormonal acne.
The 31-year-old model welcomed son Jack – who she has with fiance Jason Statham – into the world in June 2017 and she admitted her skin has never been the same since she had a baby.
Speaking to Refinery29, Rosie said: “At the moment, I’m really struggling with my skin – I’ve been dealing with post-pregnancy flare-ups for several months now.”
But the ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ actress has found having regular facials has helped with the break-outs.
She said: “What helps most is staying loyal to skin-care products that are gentle and effective. Oh, and regular facials, because I see incredible results in the brightness and tone of my skin after a facial.”
The blonde beauty started her own beauty brand, Rose Inc, because she has wants to pass on the tips she’s learned from experts over the years.
She said: “I’ve spent my modelling career working with some of the best industry artists and experts, and I’ve learned so much from them. I started Rose Inc. in the hopes that others could learn from them as well.”
Rosie is taking her beauty brand to Ireland stage later this month to present her first masterclass alongside Instagram-famous make-up experts Katie Jane Hughes and Nikki DeRoest, and she’s hoping the session will be inspirational.
She said: “The three of us will be talking to a roomful of women — a small community of like-minded beauty lovers — about our personal career journeys and how we got to where we are today. My hope is that there will be a few budding make-up artists in the crowd who can feel inspired by the stories they hear.”

Sir Michael Caine rejected ’emotional’ movie role

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Michael Caine once rejected a movie role because it made him too emotional.
The 85-year-old actor has revealed he was in line to star in a movie about a dementia sufferer, but Michael ultimately rejected the part because of the death of his good friend and well-known tailor Doug Hayward, who had battled the disease.
He confessed: “I couldn’t. I couldn’t do it, no. As an actor, if I’m going to play someone with dementia, I have to keep thinking back to someone I know who had dementia. And the only person I knew was Dougie.”
Michael is confident he would have excelled in the role, having previously studied the disease.
But he admitted the emotional stress was simply too much for him to deal with while working on the movie.
He told Radio Times: “I had become so knowledgeable about [dementia]. But I realised emotionally I couldn’t do it.
“All day, for two months, thinking about the worst side of Doug, which killed him.”
Meanwhile, Michael previously admitted he barely watches any of his old films.
The veteran star explained: “I sometimes see them on television and I’ll sit there and watch 10 minutes.
“The only one I watch for any amount of time, I’ll watch for a quarter hour or 20 minutes, is ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’. The rest of them I turn off after about five minutes.
“I have seen them so many times and I know what’s coming. The butler did it, or if you’re watching ‘Batman’, the butler didn’t do it.”

Boyzone won’t become holograms

OHMYGOSSIP — Boyzone have ruled out becoming holograms.
The group – which includes Ronan Keating, Shane Lynch, Keith Duffy and Mikey Graham – says there are no plans to make themselves or their late bandmate Stephen Gately into a hologram.
Speaking about the news that Amy Winehouse is to be made into a hologram for a tour, Mikey said: “To be honest, I think it’s a bit too soon with Amy. There was a Roy Orbison hologram recently and an Elvis thing that did well but that was long after those guys passed by.”
Whilst Shane added: “I don’t think it’s something we would ever think about.”
And Ronan quipped: “I suppose we could end up staying at home, like Abba are.”
Before concluding: “When we are long gone, maybe – but until then we’ll keep doing it ourselves and turn up … we probably wouldn’t get paid otherwise.”
The ‘No Matter What’ hitmakers still want to honour Stephen during their Farewell tour.
Ronan said: “You have to hear his vocals 100 percent off the backing tracks on ‘I Can Dream.'”
Whilst Shane added: “We will be paying homage. Even some of the earlier stuff from 1996’s ‘A Different Beat’ or whatever the case maybe, we would love to have Steo’s vocals live on stage, so would the crowd.”
And whilst this tour marks their last performances together, Ronan insists they are in no rush to wrap it up.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: “I can’t wait for the tour but we don’t have a date yet, it’s not like we are finishing in March or April. We have quite a bit of time to decide when the very last shows are – we want it to be something special.”

That was the reason for the late cancellation. It was out of anyone’s control, and of course, wasn’t planned that way.
“I was discharged from hospital last night, and am following doctors orders of liquids and rest. A lot of you know how physical my shows are, and that I don’t just stand in front a microphone and sing. I flip, dance, fly, harness, silk, and scream my way through a total s**t show of awesomeness (no pun intended). Therefore, I need to be physically healthy and well in order to perform this show. Gwyneth Paltrow loves fried food and alcohol

OHMYGOSSIP — Gwyneth Paltrow loves “fried food” and “alcohol”.
The 46-year-old actress used to follow a macrobiotic diet – comprised mainly of vegetables and fish and didn’t allow the consumption of any dairy or processed foods – but she abandoned the strict eating plan to allow herself to indulge in her favourite calorific meals and now relies on cleanses to maintain a healthy balance.
Speaking to Glamour, Gwyneth said: “I was a person who loved sugar, fried food and alcohol – I still am, quite frankly. But when I did my first 21-day cleanse called, The Clean Program and cut out caffeine, gluten, diary … I felt completely re-born. I was like, ‘This wellness thing is real! I feel incredible!’ Of course, I went back to martinis, but I try to do one once a year!
“I think it’s important, the idea that we all have autonomy over our health and wellbeing. Wellness is really a state of mind and an integration between mind, body and heart.”
Gwyneth – who has kids Apple, 14, and Moses, 12, with her ex-husband Chris Martin – also admitted that hitting her “mid-forties” has given her a fresh outlook on life that has left her feeling “optimistic” about the future.
The Hollywood star – who recently married producer Brad Falchuk, 47 – added: “I feel so lucky and I am so grateful. It’s different to be in your mid-forties; do it again and bring all your experience, your pain, your happiness, suffering – everything. It’s actually very heartening, I feel very optimistic!”
Gwyneth promotes wellbeing and fitness through her Goop lifestyle brand – famous for recommending vaginal steams and $15,000 gold vibrators – and she is very proud that her company employs “mostly women”.
She said: “I think I am very much a girl boss, meaning that I try to lead from my feminine. For me, what that means is leading from a place of collaboration and consideration to very much keep that flow of energy going through everything.
“All start-ups are inherently feminine because it’s creative, it’s collaborative, it’s feelings – and as you grow, they get more masculine and more orientated to masculine processes and PNLs and patriarchy. That is also necessary, but I think it’s important to find the right balance. I love being a woman leader and I love employing mostly women – it’s amazing to see women win.”

Duchess Meghan wears Diana’s earrings in Sydney

OHMYGOSSIP — Duchess Meghan wore jewellery owned by the late Princess Diana on her first public appearance with Prince Harry since her pregnancy announcement on Monday (15.10.18).
The 34-year-old former actress donned a pair of stunning gem-encrusted butterfly earrings which were reportedly worn by Harry’s mother Diana on a trip to Canada in 1986, a year after the British royal was born, as the couple visited Sydney, Australia.
The duchess – who was known as Meghan Markle before she married the prince – later paired the earrings with a white shift dress was designed by Australian designer Karen Gee, which gave the first glimpse of her baby bump.
The fitted dress retails at $1,800 and interest in the ‘Blessed’ shift style caused the Karen Gee website to crash.
The Duchess of Sussex – who is thought to be 12 weeks pregnant – also sported a gold bracelet Diana wore while visiting the Lord Gage Centre for Old People, a Guinness Trust Home, in Newham, East London in 1990.
Meghan is already the owner of a few pieces which belonged to Diana – who tragically died in a car crash in Paris in 1997 at the age of 36.
On her wedding day – which took place on May 19 at St George’s Chapel at Winsor Castle – Meghan wore stunning emerald cut aquamarine ring to her evening wedding reception at Frogmore House.
Diana’s firstborn son Prince William was also left some jewellery of his mother’s, which he has given to his wife Duchess Catherine, including Diana’s iconic Sapphire engagement ring.
In a special letter written by Diana, she said: “I would like you to allocate all my jewellery to the share to be held by my sons, so that their wives may, in due course, have it or use it.”

Victoria Beckham cant ‘be bothered’ to have a flat tummy

OHMYGOSSIP — Victoria Beckham doesn’t care about having a flat tummy anymore.
The 44-year-old fashion designer has admitted that she can no longer “be bothered” to worry about how she looks all the time as she cares more about “creating for other women” than how people see her.
In an interview with Vogue Australia, she said: “Now it’s less about me wanting to be seen. It’s not so much about me, it’s about what I’m creating for other women.
“When I used to go out, it was, ‘Watch what I eat for lunch, because I’ve got a tight dress and I need a flat tummy.’
“I mean, who can be bothered with that now? I’m too busy. I’m older and things like that don’t matter to me.”
Victoria – who shot to fame as Posh Spice in pop group the Spice Girls – launched her eponymous label in 2008 and when she lived in Los Angeles with her husband David Beckham and their children for his soccer career she was focused on building the brand Stateside.
The star celebrated the brand’s 10th anniversary by holding a show at London Fashion Week this week and she wanted to mark the momentous occasion in her home city because she wanted her family and friends to be part of it.
She said: “The great thing about living in America was showing in America. Back then, it was a bigger stage, there were more buyers going to New York and you could start selling immediately after the show.
“I knew there were rules I had to abide by, but I wanted to be entrepreneurial and find different ways of doing things. I was a pop star who turned into a fashion designer and I didn’t want to do things the same way everyone else was doing them. And probably because I was a little naive, I wasn’t scared to take on those challenges in my own way.
“It made sense for my 10th anniversary. I’m from England, my brand is British, and I was excited to celebrate with family members who’ve never had a chance to see a show.”
