Zara Larsson's second LP coming early next year

OHMYGOSSIP — Zara Larsson has promised her second album will be released in early 2017.
The ‘Lush Life’ hitmaker has been dying to get her follow-up to 2014’s ‘1’, which was originally slated to be released in February, out for her fans and has finally given an update on the release date.
She told Harper’s Bazaar magazine: “It’s coming in January. I have been pushing it for literally a year. It was supposed to come out February 2016 and I was like, it’s coming out summer, it’s coming out after summer, it’s coming out in the fall, and then in the winter.”
The Swedish pop beauty believes there is a song for everybody on the record, which consists of love ballads to dance anthems.
She said: “It’s a little mixed. It’s pop but there are some rhythmic songs, some dance songs, some ballads. I think that everyone will like at least one song.”
Meanwhile, Zara previously revealed she would love to have a career like Beyoncé’s.
She explained: “That’s what I really want to be [like Beyoncé]. I have some friends and they’re super-hipster. And they’re like; ‘All I wanna do is sing in a jazz bar and to just make it to pay for the rent.’ And I’m like, cool … That’s not what I wanna do. I want as many people as possible to go to my concert.
“Two nights, 85,000 people in the audience. I can only imagine what she feels like standing there on stage, like ‘All these people came for me because they love my music and we’re all here right now to make this a magical and special night…’ To do like legendary. Because why not?”

New Prince documentary coming in 2017

OHMYGOSSIP — A new Prince documentary focusing on the late pop legend’s early years and journey to super-stardom is being released next year.
‘Prince: R U Listening?’ will tell the remarkable story of how the ‘Raspberry Beret’ singer – who tragically died in April at the age of 57 – became one of the world’s biggest and most experimental musicians.
The film will feature interviews from Prince’s friends, family and long-time collaborators like Shelia E and memories of him from his musical peers such as Sir Mick Jagger, Billy Idol, Bono and Lenny Kravitz.
Prince’s former bandmates such as Dez Dickerson – who toured with ‘The Purple One’ as part of his group The Revolution in the 1980s – and Andre Cymone, who played bass in Prince’s teenage band Grand Central, will also be offering their own stories of their time with Prince.
‘Prince: R U Listening?’ is being directed by Michael Kirk, who is most famous for writing, producing and directing the docuseries ‘Frontline’.
A German distributor confirmed the project is in development after announcing that it has secured the rights to the film for German-speaking countries.
At the height of his success in 1984, Prince had the number one song on the Billboard Hot 100 singles with ‘When Doves Cry’, the number one film at the US box office with ‘Purple Rain’ – in which he played the main character – and the number one album on the Billboard 200 chart with movie’s soundtrack of the same name.

The Smiths to release two unheard tracks on vinyl

OHMYGOSSIP — The Smiths are to release a new vinyl single with two previously unheard tracks.
Singer Morrissey’s fan site, true-to-you.net, reports that the 7 inch-disc features unreleased versions of ‘The Boy With The Thorn In His Side’ from their third album ‘The Queen Is Dead’ and the b-side ‘Rubber Ring’ from 1987’s ‘Louder Than Bombs’.
The vinyl will reportedly be released on Warner UK with a release date yet to be confirmed.
The artwork has also been shared on the site and has been created by the 57-year-old musician and features ‘Skyfall’ actor Albert Finney.
The news comes after Morrissey hit out at the lack of support the 30th anniversary of The Smith’s ‘The Queen is Dead’ has received from their record label.
He previously said: “People want new vinyl now, they do not want the old originals. Physicals were only ever removed at the wish of the major labels … who didn’t want stock clogging up their offices and hallways.”
The outspoken singer also accused labels of not giving music fans what they actually want.
He explained: “People still want to go into shops to buy LPs and even 7-inch discs, but it doesn’t suit the labels whereas streaming does … and consequently music bought with no effort has resulted in meaningless music charts.”
Meanwhile, guitarist Johnny Marr recently revealed he almost reformed the group in 2008 with Morrissey.
The 53-year-old musician – who was formerly a member of the rock band from their formation in 1982, to their split in 1987 – has revealed he once met up with his former band mate in a pub and discussed the possibility of a reunion.
Writing in his memoir ‘Set The Boy Free’, Johnny wrote: “Suddenly we were talking about the possibility of the band reforming, and in that moment it seemed that with the right intention it could actually be done and might even be great.
“I was genuinely pleased to be back in touch with Morrissey, and [current band] the Cribs and I talked about the possibility of me playing some shows with The Smiths. For four days it was a very real prospect.
Johnny then details how the plan went wrong when Morrissey suddenly stopped returning his calls.
He wrote: “Morrissey and I continued our dialogue and planned to meet up again. I went to Mexico with the Cribs, and then suddenly there was radio silence. Our communication ended, and things went back to how they were and how I expect they always will be.”

The Vaccines talk sex and love on new album

OHMYGOSSIP — The Vaccines’ next record is all about “sex and love”.
The ‘If You Wanna’ hitmakers are currently wrapping up writing their follow-up to 2015’s ‘English Graffiti’ and frontman Justin Hayward-Young says that romantic and racy lyrics have always been the subject of their records because that’s what he cares about most.
Asked what has been inspiring the lyrics, he admitted: “Sex and love, and love lost. I really I became very self-aware a couple of years ago. I was insecure about the fact that all I sung about was sex and love. I realised its all I care about. So I’ve kind of come to terms with that.”
The 29-year-old rocker says fans can “200 per cent” expect the album to drop in 2017.
He told NME magazine: “We’re kind of wrapping up the writing now – I think that will be done in the next month or two. Then we want to record it in the new year. When can people hear new music? Definitely next year, 100 per cent. 200 per cent.”
The band – also comprised of Freddie Cowan and Anri Arnason – have been working hard every day since their drummer Pete Robertson quit the group in June.
He said: “We’re really far along, that’s what we’re doing all day everyday at the moment.
“I mean we’re not recording it yet, but we’re writing a lot – and I mean we have a lot. There are a few songs we’re really excited about.”
Being in studio has brought Justin and his band mates Freddie Cowan and Anri Arnatson closer together as they felt with their last record they’d stopped being a band.
He added: “We’re in the studio every day playing together, so it feels a lot more like a band again, which maybe ‘English Graffiti’ stopped slightly. I guess it replenishes some of that spirit and that energy of the first record.”

Robbie Williams jealous of Harry Styles

OHMYGOSSIP — Robbie Williams was jealous of Harry Styles’ collaboration with Bruno Mars.
The ‘Party Like a Russian’ hitmaker has revealed he couldn’t help but be envious of the 22-year-old musician when he learned he had been writing with the ’24K Magic’ hitmaker, because he had previously been snubbed by Mars when he reached out for his assistance on his new album ‘The Heavy Entertainment Show’.
Speaking to Radio Times about Styles, he said: “I met Harry Styles in an airport. [Robbie asked him] ‘Oh you’re writing, Harry? Great, who with?'”
To which, the dark-haired hunk replied: “‘Well, I just spent a week with Bruno Mars, and I’m about to spend a week with Max Martin.'”
Although the news struck a chord with Williams, he has admitted he is happy for Styles and believes he is following in his footsteps.
Robbie – who split from the popular boy band Take That in 1995 and again in 2009 to embark on a solo career – said: “‘Oh I’m super-duper happy for you’ … Bleurgh … You’re the new me. Good luck!”
And the ‘Rock DJ’ hitmaker has revealed he has high hopes for ‘The X Factor’ alumni – who came third in the talent competition with his fellow band members in 2010 – and believes Harry will do well in the charts as a solo artist purely because of his style, which Williams has likened to David Beckham’s smart attire.
He shared: “I think Harry Styles has beguiled the whole world just by being Harry styles. He’s got a David Beckham-style quality. So he’s won in that regard. There’s a space for him but the music has to be great.”
Meanwhile, Williams insists he isn’t bitter towards Mars, but has credited the 31-year-old artist as having the “best songs” at the moment.
He said: “He [Bruno] and his team have the best songs right now”.

Frank Ocean will headline Lovebox Festival 2017

OHMYGOSSIP — Frank Ocean is the first artist confirmed to headline LoveBox festival next year.
The 29-year-old singer will take to the main stage on July 14 at Victoria Park, London, for the first day of the summer festival, which will be the star’s first live appearance since 2014.
The ‘Novacane’ hitmaker is expected to bring his chart-topping hits ‘Swim Good’ and ‘No Church In The Wild’ to the stage as well as tracks from his latest self-released number one album ‘Blonde’.
A statement, which has been obtained by NME, about Ocean’s comeback, read: “Visionary artist Frank Ocean has earned his place as one of the most celebrated and critically acclaimed acts of this era … Frank Ocean is sure to lead the way of what will be an unforgettable roster, once again making London’s own Lovebox a defining moment of the festival season. This outstanding headliner is the first taste of great things to come for Lovebox 2017.”
Meanwhile, the R&B star recently spoke out about his music career following his decision to leave his long-term record label Def Jam after the release of his visual album ‘Endless’.
Speaking previously about his future now he has left the company, he said: “Because I’m not in a record deal, I don’t have to operate in an album format. I can operate in half-a-song format.”
And the musician has revealed he felt a weight was lifted from his shoulders when he ditched the musical publishing company.
He explained: “With this record [‘Blonde’] in particular, I wanted to feel like I won before the record came out, and I did, and so it took a lot pressure off of me about how the record even would perform after the fact. Once the goal is met, everything else is lagniappe. It’s not essential for me to have a big debut week, it’s not essential for me to have big radio records.”

Prince's estate to host four-day event in his honour

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince’s Paisley Park estate is to host a four-day event in honour of the late music legend.
The festival called ‘Celebration 2017’ will celebrate the life of the late ‘Purple Rain’ hitmaker – who died at the age of 57 from an accidental overdose at the property – between April 20 and 23, 2017, a year after he passed away.
According to The Hollywood reporter, Prince’s backing band The Revolution, Morris Day and The Time, New Power Generation and 3RDEYEGIRL are expected to perform at the music extravaganza.
Tickets for the event start at £402 ($499) and those lucky enough to purchase them will get access to exclusive concerts, a guided tour of the estate and much more.
The late singer’s Minnesota home and recording studio has been open to the public on a temporary basis for the last month and the Chanhassen City Council voted unanimously to allow the exhibit to continue after reviewing concerns about traffic and pedestrian safety.
Local business leaders had backed the proposals to make the estate a permanent tourist attraction.
Vernelle Clayton, a Chanhassen resident and leader of the Buy Chanhassen business group, said: “We think more customers and clients is nothing but beneficial to our community.”
Since Paisley Park’s doors were thrown open on October 6 – almost six months after the ‘1999’ hitmaker died – over 12,000 people have already toured Studio A, the Purple Rain Room, the NPG Music Club and other parts of the estate.
Paisley Park is now expected to be open to tourists from Thursdays through Sundays in the short term.
Fans who visit the estate even get to see Prince’s remains as the elaborate urn holding his ashes is on display.
The urn was designed by Prince’s sister Tyka and nephew President Nelson, and features scale-model details from Paisley Park, his purple Yamaha piano and white ornamental doves.
Tyka worked with the company Foreverence to create the urn and it features seven crystals.

Eric Clapton announces new live dates

OHMYGOSSIP — Eric Clapton has announced four new live dates – despite quitting touring last year.
The 71-year-old guitarist will hit the road in the US in 2017 for a quartet of shows, two at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on March 19 and 20, and a pair of gigs at The Forum, Los Angeles, on March 25 and 26.
The shows are to be billed as a celebration of the legend’s 50 years in music and he will be supported by Jimmie Vaughan and Gary Clark Jr.
Earlier this year, Eric revealed incurable damage to his nervous system had made it “hard work” to play the guitar.
He said: “I’ve had quite a lot of pain over the last year. It started with lower back pain, and turned into what they call peripheral neuropathy – which is where you feel like you have electric shocks going down your leg.
“And I’ve had to figure out how to deal with some other things from getting old.
“Because I’m in recovery from alcoholism and addiction to substances, I consider it a great thing to be alive at all. By rights I should have kicked the bucket a long time ago.”
Last year, Eric insisted he was not going to tour any more.
Writing in a programme for concerts celebrating his 70th birthday in London and New York, he wrote: “I swear this is it, no more.
“I know I’ve been threatening retirement for the last 50 years, but I didn’t think I’d ever really want to stop. I love what I do and always have done, but over the last few decades I’ve found what I was always really looking for, a loving family who love me just the way I am.”
In 2014, he insisted touring had become “unapproachable” and “unbearable”.
He said at the time: “There are tons of things I’d like to do, but I’m looking at retirement too.
“What I’ll allow myself to do, within reason, is carry on recording in the studio. I don’t want to go off the boil to the point where I’m embarrassing myself.”

Justin Bieber backs Nordoff Robins' 2016 Christmas Appeal

OHMYGOSSIP — Justin Bieber has backed Nordoff Robins’ 2016 Christmas Appeal.
The 22-year-old pop superstar has reached out in support of the UK’s leading music therapy charity after one of his biggest fan’s Evie put her recovery down to listening to songs by the ‘Sorry’ hitmaker.
In particular, the 17-year-old Belieber found the pop hunk’s single ‘Purpose’ the most impactful and as a result, the charity – which is dedicated to changing the lives of the vulnerable and isolated – has dedicated its 2016 Christmas Appeal to the power of that song and #EviesStory in an animated film, which documents the teenager’s journey with music therapy following brain tumour surgery.
Evie, who has always been a passionate and talented singer, said: “The first time I met Bev [Rayner, Nordoff Robins music therapist], my music therapist, I felt a connection. We talked about the music I liked, and we incorporated some Justin Bieber into my sessions; Bev would play the keyboard and we would sing. It wasn’t easy, but I grew in confidence, I just appreciated the chance to do something I loved one on one, away from all the treatments and doctors – it was my escape and a place where I could be ‘me’ again.”
The operation left Evie partially paralysed and unable to walk and nerve damage dramatically changed her voice.
However, with the help of rehab and music therapy, Evie was not only able to sing again in front of an audience but she was able to walk again.
Evie added: “It was the very first time my mum heard me sing again since the surgery. It was such a special moment and lost in the music I found the strength to push forward, and I stood again for the first time in that session.”
It’s not the first time Bieber has publicly supported a British charity.
Last year he tweeted a link to his 71.9 million followers to download a charity single ‘A Bridge Over You’ – a mash up cover of the 1970 Simon and Garfunkel classic ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ and Coldplay’s ‘Fix You’ – by a choir made up of NHS staff.
The single aimed to raise funds for Carer’s UK and Mind charities.
At the time he wrote: “I’m hearing this UK Christmas race is close…but the @Choir_NHS single is for charity. So for 1 week it’s ok not to be #1. Let’s do the right thing & help them win. It’s Christmas. @Choir_NHS good luck http://www.nhsno1.com/download (sic)”
With the pop star’s help, the single went on to beat his song to number one in the UK charts.
Visit www.nordoff-robbins.org.uk to find out more about #EviesStory and how you can support Nordoff Robbins this Christmas.

Olly Murs to make debut at Teenage Cancer Trust gigs

OHMYGOSSIP — Olly Murs is to perform for the Teenage Cancer Trust for the first time in 2017. The 32-year-old pop star has been announced as one of the headliners for the charity’s 17th annual series of concerts held at London’s Royal Albert Hall next March and April.

Olly has sold 10 million records and has notched up four number one singles in the UK – he recently made his fourth UK number one album with ’24 HRS’ which knocked Robbie Williams from the top spot.

The Who’s Roger Daltrey, CBE and honorary Patron of the Teenage Cancer Trust, is very excited that Olly has agreed to play. He said: “The Teenage Cancer Trust concerts at the Royal Albert Hall are now fully fledged teenagers as next year marks our 17th anniversary. Yet again we have a really varied line up starting with Olly Murs who is fresh from his fourth number one album and will be embarking on an arena tour before he reaches us.”

The other headliners confirmed for next year are The Who, who will perform their seminal rock opera ‘Tommy’ on two nights, Paul Weller, the Pet Shop Boys with Johnny Marr and the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and an evening of comedy hosted by Romesh Ranganathan.

Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, of the Pet Shop Boys, said: “This will be a very special night for us, performing with Johnny Marr and the Royal Philharmonic. We have often combined electronics with orchestrations on our records and now we’re going to do this in concert. Johnny has played on many of our albums and it will be a real thrill to have him on stage with us.”

Meanwhile, Weller added: “It’s important to support the continuously incredible work that Teenage Cancer Trust does. It’s an honour to be able to perform for them and hopefully help raise money for teenagers when they need it the most.”

Since 2000, a staggering 225 bands and artists have performed, raising more than £24 million for the Teenage Cancer Trust, including Noel Gallagher, Sir Paul McCartney, The Cure and Ed Sheeran.

The gigs play a vital role in helping the charity raise funds to provide 28 specialist cancer units and over 60 nursing and support staff in NHS hospitals across the UK and this year’s shows are supported by headline sponsors Aldi and associate sponsors American Airlines.

Tickets for the TCT shows go on sale at 9am on Friday (02.12.16) from at gigsandtours.com, ticketmaster.co.uk and royalalberthall.com.

Liam Gallagher's first solo concert announced

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher is to perform his first solo gig at London’s Bush Hall next year for Youth Music’s ‘Give a Gig Week’.
The former Oasis star will reportedly join Jess Glynne, Tom Odell and Plan B at the iconic venue on March 28, 2017, for a concert in support of the charity, which helps support youngsters who want to make music, according to MusicWeek.
It will be the 43-year-old rocker’s first live performance since he inked a record deal with Warner Bros Records UK in August.
And it could be the first time fans get a taste of what to expect from the ‘Live Forever’ hitmaker’s eagerly-anticipated debut solo album, which he recently said is nothing like Oasis and has a “vibe” of the late Beatles legend, John Lennon.
He said: “It’s a pretty Working Class Hero kinda thing – Lennony vibe, you know what I mean. It’s like acoustic.
“Then there’s a couple of rock and roll tunes on there, but it’s not Oasis man. It’s not f*****g stadium rock, you know what I mean?”
Liam recently admitted he doesn’t think his solo album will be as “good or important” as anything Oasis did.
The outspoken star is keen for his former band – who split in 2009 following an explosive row between him and his brother, guitarist Noel Gallagher – to reunite but thinks he needs to wait for his older sibling to “lighten up” before that will happen.
So in the meantime, Liam is keeping busy in the studio working on the record.
He said: “Being out of Oasis has been like a big f***in’ hole, but that’s life. And I’m dealing with the f***in’ guy that likes to be in f***in’ control so I’ll have to wait for him to lighten up. Or for his missus to let him join a rock ‘n’ roll band again.
“I’m ready to go, my f***in’ suitcases are packed. I know for a fact I could still whip me a**e out of them songs. If it happens it happens if it doesn’t it doesn’t.
“In the meantime, I’m doing a f***in’ record on me jacks. And that won’t be nearly as good or as important.”

Rod Stewart to headline Isle of Wight Festival

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Rod Stewart will headline the Isle of Wight Festival 2017.
The ‘Maggie May’ hitmaker is to close the legendary music extravaganza on Sunday, June 11 at Seaclose Park in Newport, Isle of Wight, for what will be his only UK festival performance of next year and his first ever time playing the iconic event.
He said: “I have been very lucky to have played many of the world’s finest venues and festivals – but never played the legendary IOW Festival.
“I am so excited to put that right. June can’t come round soon enough.”
And the festival’s promoter, John Giddings added: “I’ve wanted Rod Stewart to play at the festival for a number of years. He’s an incredible icon with a career that’s spanned over five decaes so it’s impossible not to be a fan. On Sunday night he’ll bring an incredible energy to create an unforgettable moment.”
The 71-year-old music legend joins previously announced headliners Arcade Fire, who will perform on the main stage on Saturday, June 10.
Giddings previously revealed that the late David Bowie – who sadly passed away in January, following a secret battle with cancer – introduced the indie rock group to him and suggested they should play the iconic music extravaganza.
He said: “I’m so happy to have secured Arcade Fire as our first headliners. David Bowie recommended them and I’ve been a fan ever since.
“Last year saw an incredible year and I’m ready for us to come back even better in 2017.”
Last year’s festival was a triumph with musical legends Queen + Adam Lambert, The Who, Iggy Pop and many more gracing the main stage.
With one headlining act yet to be confirmed those rumoured include Guns N’ Roses, Beyonce, Coldplay and Green Day.
Over the years Isle of Wight Festival has seen a whole host of legendary acts perform including the Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie, The Killers and Sir Paul McCartney.
Early Bird tickets are on sale now.

Metallica throw away unwanted guitar riffs

OHMYGOSSIP — Metallica threw away any unwanted guitar riffs after making their current album ‘Hardwired… to Self-Destruct’.
The ‘Enter Sandman’ hitmakers will have to start from scratch when they start working on their next album as frontman James Hetfield, 58, has revealed they won’t touch music made in the studio on previous records.
He told La Viola: “Once an album is finished the box of riffs is thrown away. We use the best.
“There’s no reason to save it if it’s not good – we’ll write new stuff. I’m very interested moving forward.”
Meanwhile, James recently revealed the band plan on touring for at least the next two years in support of their 10th studio album.
He said: “We’ve booked out two years. So I can’t predict the future, but we start there and hopefully there’s more than that.”
And fans may not have to wait as long for a new LP from the heavy metallers as James said he is already dying to get into the studio again and doesn’t want to wait as long to put out new songs.
He said: “I would like to make some new music sooner thank eight years, for sure.
“There’s such a pleasure and a joy of hearing your new music and having other people hear it. So I don’t wanna wait that long.”
It’s taken the band – also comprised of Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo – eight years to pen this release and, although James and Lars are the founding members of the group, bassist Robert, 52, was also allowed to give his two cents this time round.
Robert recently said: “At the end of the day, it’s their baby but I was there for the conception.”
Asked why it’s taken them so long to drop a new LP, James – whose band has toured every year since 2011 – joked: “We had a lot of laundry to do after our last tour.”
Metallica remain the biggest metal act on the planet – with more than one billion streams on the digital music service Spotify – and they’re very much aware of that.
Asked who their biggest fans are, James said: “We are our biggest fans, and Lars is the biggest fan of all of us. His entire house is full with Metallica merchandise.”
