Sturgill Simpson: Frank Ocean deserves my Grammy nomination

OHMYGOSSIP — Sturgill Simpson thinks Frank Ocean is more deserving of his Grammy Album of The Year nomination.
The 38-year-old country singer will compete with Adele, Justin Bieber, Beyonce and Drake for the prestigious accolade at the ceremony on February 12, but he thinks the 29-year-old rapper should have received a nod for his critically-acclaimed LP ‘Blonde’. In an interview with The New York Times, he said: “I loved ‘Lemonade.’ I thought it was genius. I love the Adele record. I really, really wish, honestly, and no [expletive] — I would’ve liked to see Frank Ocean’s name where mine is. But that’s not my place to say. I totally understand [his protest]. I just thought that record [‘Blonde’] was really groundbreaking. I listen to just about everything except country music, so it’s strange.”
The ‘In Bloom’ hitmaker, whose album ‘A Sailor’s Guide to Earth’ is up for the prize, finds the nomination “extremely humbling” and to celebrate he simply made pancakes and watched TV with his son.
Asked how he found out, he said: “[My publicist] woke me up. My wife said, ‘Who the [expletive] is calling you at 7:30?’ She told me the news and we just kind of stayed in bed for a while. I was trying to wrap my head around what this even means and looking back on everything. It’s extremely humbling. I went downstairs and made pancakes and watched ‘Sesame Street’ with my son. That was pretty much it.”
Frank didn’t submit ‘Blonde’ for consideration at the Grammys because he finds the system “dated”.
He failed to put forward his record in time for consideration at next year’s glitzy award show, a decision he made in protest of the ceremony failing to “represent” people who come from his background.
The ‘Novacane’ hitmaker previously said: “That institution certainly has nostalgic importance. It just doesn’t seem to be representing very well for people who come from where I come from, and hold down what I hold down.
“I think the infrastructure of the awarding system and the nomination system and screening system is dated. I’d rather this be my Colin Kaepernick moment for the Grammys than sit there in the audience.”

Guns N' Roses reunion not motivated by money

OHMYGOSSIP — Guns N’ Roses guitarist Richard Fortus says Axl Rose and Slash didn’t reunite just for the money.
The 50-year-old rocker – who has been a part of the group since 2001 – doesn’t think the ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ singer and lead guitarist only got back together just for a pay packet otherwise they would have reunited years ago.
Asked if money was the motivation for their reunion, Fortus said: “No. Axl has been going on, on time for years before [the reunion]. It’s been great. Is [money] the motivating factor for him? Absolutely not.
“I’ve never seen they guy motivated by money, as I’ve known him. Otherwise, this reunion would have happened a long time ago.”
And quizzed on whether he thinks Slash’s expensive divorce from Perla Ferrar in 2014 was why he rejoined the group, Fortus told radio station KSHE: “I don’t know. Honestly, I don’t think [money] was a motivating factor for anybody, other than the stars just seemed to align.
“We didn’t have a bass player, we didn’t have a guitar player. Really, that’s how it sort of happened.”
Meanwhile, Fortus also hinted that there could be new music on the way from the current line up of the heavy rock band – also comprised of Duff McKagan – that they are hoping to release.
He said: “We are messing with ideas every day.
“I mean, every day we do at least an hour soundcheck, and we’ll play through different ideas, like new ideas, put stuff down on tape.
“It’s really organic. And it happens … Same in rehearsals – we were always putting down different ideas and getting stuff together and getting ready for that, yeah.”
Fortus’ comments come following the news that Guns N’ Roses have extended their ‘Not In This Lifetime Tour’ to come to Europe and North American in 2017.
The American rockers have announced more than 30 stadium shows, kicking off on May 27, 2017 at Dublin’s Slane Castle.
The group made the announcement on their Twitter page, with a video of the dates, along with the caption: “The Machine Is Back At It In 2017! #GnFnR #NotInThisLifeTime Tour … (sic)”

Ryan Adams announces new album

OHMYGOSSIP — Ryan Adams will release a new album in February.
The 41-year-old singer has announced ‘Prisoner’, his first new material since his 2014 self-titled LP, will be out in 2017, with single ‘Do You Still Love Me’ available from Wednesday (07.12.16).
Ryan shared an image of the record’s artwork on Instagram and announced “PRISONER Feb 17th NEW SINGLE “Do You Still Love Me” Dec 7th #PaxAm (sic)”
Ryan recently slammed the state of modern music and bemoaned the fact there are no more bands like Oasis, whose hit song ‘Wonderwall’ he famously covered.
In a rant on Instagram, he wrote: “I miss this band. They f***ing mattered. Sigh it’s now a world full of a bunch of cargo dad pants bands with soulless, bull**** lyrics and about the level of danger you might feel if you mixed hot fries with ginger ale. F*** that (sic).”
The ‘Lucky Now’ hitmaker also pleaded with his Twitter followers to go and see Oasis’ new documentary ‘Supersonic’, which sees Noel and Liam Gallagher revisit the band’s beginnings in Manchester and journey to their mammoth open-air concerts at Knebworth in 1996 which were attended by 250,000 fans, because of the lack of quality rock ‘n’ roll bands around.
He wrote: “Go see the @oasis movie if you need something to remind you what the f**k rocknroll means.
Or why trouble matters.
Or what fun is (sic)”
Ryan continued to bash the “boring” musicians of today whilst hailing Oasis “roughhouse giants”.
He added: “How boring has music become since these roughhouse giants came crawling from nowhere places with their guitars Their souls afire… Sigh (sic)”

John Legend thanks Kanye West for helping him get signed

OHMYGOSSIP — John Legend doesn’t think he would have landed a record deal if it wasn’t for Kanye West.
The 37-year-old singer is forever “grateful” that the ‘Famous’ rapper took interest in his music and signed him to his record label GOOD Music as he doesn’t think he would have inked a major deal without his mentoring.
Speaking on the Honda Stage at the iHeartRadio Theater in Los Angeles on Friday (02.12.16), he said: “I don’t know if I would’ve gotten signed to Columbia and Sony without [Kanye’s] help and his work with me on my music back then. so I’ll always be grateful to him for that.”
It comes after the ‘Ordinary People’ hitmaker revealed he was rejected by “every major record label” when he tried to break into the music industry.
“I got turned down by every major record label who I met with – including Sony [Legend’s current record label] – and you know, I had to keep persisting despite the no’s and wait till I got to yes.”
However, Legend – who released his debut album ‘Get Lifted’ in 2004 – has admitted he thinks it was “helpful” he became famous when he had matured into an adult because he was already aware of the “real world”.
He explained: “I think it was helpful for me to become famous when I was an adult already; I was twenty-six years old. I think it’s harder for people that become famous when they’re a lot younger because you never had to be an adult without being in this very unrealistic world. It is unrealistic if you don’t know what the real world is like and me having lived in the real world for a while was very helpful.”
Meanwhile Legend – who is set to release his new single ‘Love Me Now’, which will be the first track unveiled from his upcoming fifth studio album – has teased his forthcoming LP has more of a “live band sound”.
He said: “I don’t think it’s a dramatic change.
“That’s what we focused on; trying to write great songs that told my story. It’s a bit more of a live band sound than previous albums, we used a live drummer more than we used to, so on a sonic side that’s one of the biggest differences, it gives it a more soulful feel I think.”

Phil Campbell haunted by Lemmy Kilmister

OHMYGOSSIP — Former Motorhead guitarist Phil Campbell feels haunted by the late Lemmy Kilmister.
The iconic frontman passed away almost a year ago on December 28, 2015 after suffering from inoperable prostate cancer as well as congestive heart failure and cardiac arrhythmia, and his former band mate says he often “can’t get to sleep” because the rocker is still in his thoughts.
Speaking to radio station Planet Rock, the 55-year-old guitarist said: “He’s in my mind all the time, like. I can’t get to sleep some nights because he’s f***ing asking me for cigarettes, things like that.”
The ‘Ace of Spades’ hitmakers formed in 1975, but it wasn’t until 1984 that Phil met Lemmy and tried out for the band, and he recently opened up about his “daunting” audition.
He said: “When I went into the audition it was only a small room. A roadie gave Lemmy his bass, he turned the volume up and strummed the first chord.
“I just thought, ‘Bloody hell, this is loud’. And I kind of enjoyed it. We’d be having volume games ever since.
“It was daunting, but I was up for the job. I was capable, I thought. I had a bit of luck on my side on that day. I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.”
Motorhead parted ways after the death of Lemmy, with drummer Mikkey Dee going on to join The Scorpions, and Phil himself concentrating on his own band which features his three sons Todd, Dane and Tyla, whom he shares with his wife Gaynor Campbell.
Metallica’s James Hetfield recently spoke out in support of the late music icon, saying he should be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
He said: “With the passing of Lemmy, it’s really, really important for me to see Motorhead acknowledged in that – because there’s no more rock ‘n’ roll person on this planet than Lemmy.”

Halsey moved to ‘tears’ by music for second album

OHMYGOSSIP — Halsey is “proud to the point of tears” about the music she has created for her second album. The ‘Closer’ hitmaker has admitted she often worries if she has used up all of her magic on her debut album, but she hopes her follow-up to 2015’s ‘Badlands’ will have an impact on her female fans and make them feel “empowered”.

Speaking to Billboard magazine about her next record, she said: “Sometimes I worry: What if I used up all my pixie dust on the first one? But I’m proud to the point of tears of what I’ve been able to create. Being a woman in this industry means using your platform to make every kind of woman feel empowered.”

Meanwhile, the pop beauty has revealed her ultimate collaborator would be Alanis Morissette, as she has been a big inspiration on the 22-year-old singer’s career. Asked for her ideal collaboration, she said: “Even if it was just writing together, I’d love to work with Alanis Morissette. She has been a huge part of me having the confidence to be the kind of artist I am.”

And it seems the ‘Ironic’ hitmaker is not the only artist Halsey – whose real name is Ashley Nicolette Frangipane – wants to team up with. She is a huge fan of Rihanna and would love to record music with her. She recently said: “If I could collaborate with anyone, it would be Rihanna. I love her. I wish she was my big sister.”

The ‘Grow Up’ hitmaker will make his debut as one of the headliners for the charity’s 17th annual series of shows held at London’s Royal Albert Hall next March and April and sees it as the perfect opportunity to perform his 2014 track ‘Let Me In’, which the 58-year-old rocker wrote.

He told the Daily Star newspaper: “I might get that Weller song into the set, see what we can do on the night. I want to make the show as special as and spectacular as I can.
“I’d love to play with Paul. Whether I do or not I will be there to watch his gig, he’s one of my idols.”

Nirvana's Incesticide for vinyl reissue

OHMYGOSSIP — The grunge group’s compilation album, which was first released in December 1992 and features tunes ‘Sliver’ and ‘Son of a Gun’, will be remastered by engineer Bernie Grundman for a new double-vinyl in 2017 to mark the record’s 25th anniversary.
Bernie has used the original analog master tapes for the vinyl audio.
The record will be released on January 13 in the US but it’s not known when or if it will be coming to the UK.
‘Incesticide’ featured various recordings from the band – who were made up of Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic – including B-sides, outtakes, demos, covers and radio broadcasts.
What’s more, it also featured recordings by four drummers, Chad Channing – who was the stickman on the group’s 1989 debut album ‘Bleach’ – Dan Peters, Dale Crover and Dave.
The album reached number 39 on the Billboard 200 chart and it is said Kurt – who took his own life in April 1994 aged 27 – permitted the release because he was allowed complete control of the artwork.
Other songs on the record include ‘Downer’ – which was originally released on ‘Bleach’ – ‘Stain’, which featured on the ‘Blew’ EP, and catchy songs ‘Turnaround’, ‘Aneurysm’ and ‘Molly’s Lips’.
This comes weeks after it was announced Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ is to be inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame 2017.
Only tracks which are more than 25 years old are eligible to enter the Hall of Fame.

The Stone Roses announce two huge Leeds shows

OHMYGOSSIP — The Stone Roses have announced two huge gigs in Leeds.
The ‘I Wanna Be Adored’ hitmaker are set to perform at First Direct Arena on Wednesday June 20 and Thursday June 21, 2017.
Rumours of a gig in the city were fuelled when fans spotted the band’s iconic lemon logo on the side of the Roxy Lanes building in the north England city.
It comes after the group used the same method to announce a set of shows at Manchester’s Etihad Stadium
At the time, a shop keeper – where one of the posters was displayed – said he was “sworn to secrecy about an announcement due in the next 24 hours” whilst a firm was also registered with all four members of the band listed on, something which is expected to be used for these new ventures.
Back in May 2015, the group – which includes singer Ian Brown, guitarist John Squire, bassist Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield and drummer Alan ‘Reni’ Wren – unveiled their first single in 21 years titled ‘All For One’.
Sharing the artwork on social media, they wrote at the time: “NEW SINGLE. ALL FOR ONE. AVAILABLE HERE NOW.”
The band reunited in 2012 with two huge shows at Heaton Park in Manchester, which was attended by 150,000 people. They had been promising new material ever since they confirmed they were getting back together and were seen recording at producer Paul Epworth’s studio in north London earlier in the year.
Asked about the album, Ian simply said it was going “glorious”.
The shows at Leeds follow a successful set of performances in Manchester, Dublin, New York and Scotland.
Tickets for the Leeds dates will go on sale at 9.30am on Friday December 9.

Liam Gallagher says 2017 is the 'year of the face off'

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher is predicting that “2017 is the year of the face off” in a seemingly cryptic warning to his brother Noel Gallagher.
The 44-year-old singer is recording his debut solo LP which he intends to release next summer, while his older brother Noel – who he has barely spoken to since he quit Oasis in 2009 following a huge sibling bust-up – is working with producer David Holmes on his third solo album under the High Flying Birds name.
Liam has now gone a bizarre Twitter rant in which tells his 1.38 million followers to get ready for a battle between “real versus fake” and “love versus hate”.
His odd tweets read: “2017 the year of the face off Wright vs wrong Real Vs fake Love vs Hate as you were LFUKING x
“He’s not the messiahs he’s a vet NORTY boy … Chilli putter Carlo void man (sic)”
Liam then admits online that he had briefly “lost the plot” and hinted he was going to eat some energising fish to help with his “burn out”.
The ‘Songbird’ hitmaker tweeted: “To be fair you got me there folks lost the plot there don’t know what 1s taking about ok idols … I feel burnt out help fish is good … Eh la the cakes been baked and out of respect I’d bring a change of napkins (sic)”
Meanwhile, Liam’s first confirmed solo festival appearance has been revealed.
Bergenfest in Norway has revealed that the former Oasis frontman will be performing next year.
A translated post from the event’s official Twitter account translates to “one of England’s biggest rock stars of all time, Liam Gallagher, comes to Bergenfest 2017!”, while a statement on the festival’s website reads “2017 will see Liam touring as a solo artist and we cannot wait to see what this brilliant singer has in store for us, come June”.

OHMYGOSSIP — The Maccabees have announced three farewell shows.
The British indie rockers – Orlando Weeks, Hugo White, Felix White, Rupert Jarvis and Sam Doyle – revealed back in August that they were calling time on their 14-year career.
But they are now making good on their promise to play some “celebration” concerts and will taking to the stage for the final time as a band for their ‘Live For The Last Time: The Farewell Shows’.

The Maccabees will be playing their greatest hits at the O2 Apollo in Manchester on June 28 and at Alexandra Palace in London on June 30 and July 1.
The band told fans they were splitting via Twitter and Facebook in the summer, admitting it had been a “difficult” decision to call time on their career as a five-piece but felt the time was right end their collective musical journey.
Their statement read: “After 14 years as a band we have decided to call it a day. The decision has obviously been an incredibly difficult one, given that The Maccabees has been such a huge part of our lives until now. We are very proud to be able to go out on our own terms and at our creative peak … There have not been fallings out and we are grateful to say that we are not leaving the group behind as a divided force. It has been a rare and absolutely incredible time that we all feel very lucky to have shared.
“Love to anyone who has ever stood by our band, bought our records, come and seen us play, or cared and contributed in whatever capacity it may have been. We have always valued it immeasurably, tried to honour it as best we could and can only say thank you to you all very deeply and sincerely.”
The Maccabees formed in 2002 and released four albums; 2007 debut ‘Colour It In’, ‘Wall of Arms’ in 2009, 2012’s ‘Given to the Wild’ and finally ‘Marks To Prove It’, which came out in July 2015.

Stone Temple Pilots remember Scott Weiland

OHMYGOSSIP — Stone Temple Pilots are reminded of late frontman Scott Weiland “daily”.
The heavy rock band’s original singer – who performed lead vocals on-and-off from 1989 until 2013 – tragically passed away at the age of 48 last December from an accidental overdose and the remaining members, brothers Dean and Robert DeLeo and Eric Kretz, say he’s constantly in their minds as they “miss” him dearly.
Speaking of their beloved band mate, in a statement posted on their website, they said: “Here we are. A year has passed since you’ve been gone. We often think of you and are reminded of you daily with many memories. Then there is the music the four of us carved out allowing us to listen and feel how brilliant you are. There was a time when we looked up to one another. Each of us wanting one another’s approval. The songs we wrote had to have complete impact on us in order for them to shine. When it did … it was unearthly. Perhaps you are in a place now to better describe it. We miss you Scott.”
The ‘Vasoline’ hitmakers had been touring with Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington on lead vocals, but he left to focus on his band’s new album in January.
Since February, the ‘Plush’ rockers held public auditions to find a replacement for Weiland, and while they concluded the search, they are yet to announce the new singer.
Of their search, guitarist Dean DeLeo previously said: “You know, I promise you one thing: we’re not gonna settle,” he said. “This person has to be really, really great. You know, we had the fortune of being in a band with one of the greats — twice! You know, Chester included. So we’re not gonna settle.”

Justin Bieber teases US stadium tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Justin Bieber has teased a US stadium tour for 2017.
The 22-year-old pop megastar has had worldwide success on his ‘Purpose World Tour’ this year, and he’s not prepared to throw it in the towel just yet as he has revealed he’ll be returning to America for another leg of shows.
Whilst the exact details are yet to be announced, the ‘Sorry’ hitmaker confirmed that the concerts would take place after the second European end of the European tour wraps in June.
The shows will kick off on August 5, 2017 with a gig at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, the ‘What Do You Mean?’ singer told audiences on Monday’s (05.12.16) episode of ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’.
Justin played his last show for a few months at London’s The O2 on November 29, and he won’t pick up his microphone again until February 15, when he heads to Monterrey, Mexico, to start the hectic schedule all over again.
Fans of the ‘Love Yourself’ musician will have to remember to keep quiet during the concerts, as the star previously blasted audiences for their “obnoxious” screaming.
Speaking on stage in Birmingham, England earlier this year, he said: “Just try to show me you love me, in a different way. I get it. The screaming is just so obnoxious. I get it, it’s been in our blood and it’s been grand, you go to a concert and scream and stuff. But if we could just … scream after the song, enjoy the songs … the screaming is awesome, it’s fine, and then we take a chill pill for a second and we just listen to me speak. Because … I don’t feel like I’m being heard sometimes and it’s getting a little pressuring. So if when I’m speaking you guys could not scream at the top of your lungs. Is that cool with you guys?”

Robbie Williams wants to make new music with Take That

OHMYGOSSIP — Robbie Williams plans on making new music with Take That “at some point”.
The 42-year-old singer has said that while nothing is set in stone, he would like to get together with Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen to make some new tunes with them for one of their forthcoming anniversaries.
In an interview with The Sun newspaper, he said: “I’m sure I’ll be in the studio with the boys at some point, maybe soon. We haven’t made any plans yet.
“You can always fudge an anniversary of some sort. Like, it was the anniversary this year, but we got together in 1990, so the 25th anniversary would have been last year.
“Then there’s the anniversary of the first song, the first anniversary of most people with brown eyes buying the record and so on.”
In the meantime, the ‘Back For Good’ hitmakers are to release new album ‘Wonderland’ in March and a greatest hits record is also set to follow, which could be the ‘Party Like a Russian’ hitmaker’s first appearance on the group’s albums since 2010’s ‘Progress’.
It comes after Robbie – who originally quit the group in 1995 – reunited with Gary, Howard and Mark last month at London’s Troxy, where he was performing a special show to mark him being presented with the BRITs Icon Award.
The ‘Never Forget’ hitmakers shocked fans by taking to the stage to present Robbie with the prize and performed hits ‘Back For Good’ and ‘The Flood’ with him.
Howard told Robbie: “Whether you like it or not, you will always be a member of Take That.”
Robbie had earlier admitted that he doesn’t have time to team up with the group in the next 12 months, but they will “definitely” reunite again at some point.
He said: “It might happen, who knows, but right now I don’t think so.
“Reunion at some point, definitely – but we just couldn’t get our diaries to work in the next 12 months.”
