Professor Green’s first gig in three years

OHMYGOSSIP — Professor Green is set to perform his first gig in three years in aid of charity.
The ‘Lullaby’ hitmaker will perform a one-off show for Barts Charity’s Transform Trauma appeal – which raises funds for those who have suffered a traumatic injury or experience and helps get their lives back on track – at East London’s intimate Village Underground on September 9, with support from rising rapper Not3s and one other act, which is yet to be confirmed.
The rapper and presenter has experienced trauma personally, and has also made documentaries about mental health following his father Peter dying from suicide back in 2008.
Pro Green – whose real name is Stephen Manderson – said: “I’m excited to be supporting the Transform Trauma appeal. It’s been three years since my last headline gig and I can’t wait to get back in front of the fans.
“Trauma is something that I’ve had personal experience of but I didn’t realise how big the issue is – people don’t recognise being hit by a bus, stabbed, or caught up in a terrorist as the same thing but they all result in traumatic injury.
“Every penny raised from the gig will be spent on trauma research and care, helping save the lives of the 17,000 people who die from trauma every single year.”
The 33-year-old London-born musician previously revealed he will continue to be vocal about mental health issues because it is something he cares passionately about.
He said: “It is something is so personal to me, which is why I’m so vocal about it.”
Fans are invited to enter and donate £5 to be in with a chance of winning one of 320 pairs of tickets, including 5 special pairs of backstage meet and greets with the rapper himself, by entering a draw by visting transformtrauma.org.uk.

Robbie Williams to rejoin Take That for Christmas song?

OHMYGOSSIP — Robbie Williams could be set to rejoin Take That for a Christmas song.
Frontman Gary Barlow – who is currently joined by Mark Owen and Howard Donald in the group – recently shared a picture in the studio on Instagram teasing new music is on the way, and it’s reportedly due to be released later this year around the festive season.
The ‘Giants’ hitmakers have been eyeing getting the original five members of the group back for some shows or even an album for what seems like years.
And, though they won’t be marking their 25th anniversary, Mark has hinted there is a glimmer of hope that part-timer Robbie, 43, and Jason Orange, 47 – who quit in 2014 – may come “on board” for something.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: “I think we would still love to do something special with all of us.
“But because it feels to us like 25 years has gone we might do something at the end of this year.”
Gary added: “We are looking to do something, hopefully maybe get Robbie on board, and Jason.”
The band are working on a boxset due out in December, where the new music would likely be featured among all of their hits, and have teamed up with their usual producer Stuart Price for the release.
Gary said: “Making a record with Stuart is never predictable but it’s very comfortable.
“He understands the band.
“So many of the people that work with us have been with us for a long time.
“We really hold on to people. They try getting away but we don’t let them.”
The 46-year-old hunk said earlier this year that he thinks Robbie and Jason could return in 2022 for a ‘greatest hits’ tour and possibly a record.
The ‘Back For Good’ stars have decided not to mark their 25th anniversary with a big reunion.
At the time, Gary said: “I don’t think anything we do with Rob is going to relate to like a big 25-year project.
“In fact, I’ll tell you this for the first time, we’re looking at 30 years.
“We’re planning something to do for the 30-year all together.
“We’re looking that far ahead, something big, maybe a new record, maybe a greatest hits with a big tour.”

Dannii Minogue to join Take That on tour in Australia

OHMYGOSSIP — Dannii Minogue is going on tour with Take That in Australia this November.
The 44-year-old Australian singer – who is the young sister of pop princess Kylie Minogue – is set to release new single ‘Holding On’ this week, and surprised fans over the weekend with the announcement she is to perform with pal Gary Barlow’s band.
The ‘Needle On It’ hitmaker was chosen by the 46-year-old frontman to play the gigs after she was a judge on his UK TV talent show ‘Let it Shine’ earlier this year, and she can’t wait to play her music at venues she’s never played before.
Dannii said: “I’ll be going to cities around Australia where I’ve never performed my music with a live band before.
“I did these arenas when I was in ‘Grease’ back in the day but not with my own music. “Everything else I’ve done has been in clubs, but I got a taste for big venues when I played Rod Laver Arena with Culture Club last year.”
Dannii has teamed up with Sia for a song too and is in no rush to release it.
She said: “I love it, it’s a classic Sia song in the way it’s a huge vocal with beautiful melodies.
“She was happy with the vocals I put down, but we haven’t quite finished it yet.
“It’ll be a nice surprise whenever we get it ready. Everything’s in place to release music when I like it.”
Those expecting an album from Dannii – whose last record was 2007’s ‘Club Disco’ – may be disappointed as she said looking after her seven-year-old son Ethan – whom she has with ex-boyfriend Kris Smith – takes up most of her time.
However, being able to release music at her pleasure digitally means Dannii can put out singles whenever she likes without any pressure.
She told News.com/au: “There’s no grand plan or huge comeback or any of those words that for me have an attachment of pressure.
“I just want to do the music for fun and freedom.
“Digitally you can have that freedom now. I’ve got the money to invest in the music and we just drop it when it’s done.
“We can digitally release music without any commitments or hassles, then it’s easy to book in shows here and there that work with Ethan.
“There’s a lot of planning when you do a big release with a major record label.
“I haven’t got time for that anymore.
“I just want to put some new music out, get on stage and do a show. This is all new for me, it’s exciting.”
Take That and Dannii Minogue’s Australian tour dates are as follows:
Perth Arena November 11
Adelaide Entertainment Centre November 13
Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on November 15
Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney on November 17
Brisbane Entertainment Centre on November
Newcastle Entertainment Centre on November 19

Jason Derulo: It’s important for singers to diversify

OHMYGOSSIP — Jason Derulo thinks it is “important” for music artists to diversify nowadays.
The ‘Talk Dirty’ hitmaker feels it is crucial for musicians to explore other avenues as well because music doesn’t “sell as much as it used to”.
He said: “It’s important to diversify. Today, being a celebrity is only part of it. It’s the stage that allows you to do other things, especially with music, right?
“So if you’re not diversifying, it’s a shame, especially with music not selling as much as it used to. Although music hasn’t sold as much as it used to, artists weren’t as famous as they are now. You can, with a click of the button, see what your favorite star is doing at any given time.”
The 27-year-old singer believes streaming and downloading has changed music in a “big way”.
Asked how streaming has affected the industry, he added to OZY: “The biggest way it’s changing music is that songs don’t have to be a big hit on the radio to be a big hit. There are so many songs that are culturally big because they’re bigger on other formats, whether it’s on social media or these streaming networks.
“It’s exciting because the people get to decide what the hot songs are. There are so many different playlists you can be put on, and there’s so much intel on what people are listening to and what they’re skipping, you know what I’m saying? So make sure you don’t skip any of my songs, I’ll track you down.
“So, yeah, there’s just so much intel that tells you what song you should put out next, based on what people are digging, what people are listening to. It’s a very different world, and I’m excited about it.”

Grimes working on 5th album ‘every day’

OHMYGOSSIP — Grimes is in the studio “every day” working on her fifth studio album.
The singer/songwriter has told fans she will start completing some of the tracks for her follow up to 2015’s ‘Art Angels’ within the next few months, but just needs a bit more time for “pure unadulterated creativity”.
She wrote on Instagram: “I kno i’ve been quiet lately – in the studio every day trying to legit make something you’ve never heard before. unexplored sonic landscapes. i need another month or 2 of pure unadulterated creativity at which point i will begin finishing tracks. won’t let u down (sic)”
The 29-year-old star gave the album update in a social media post announcing she has been included in Harper’s Bazaar’s Icons list.
She posted a short video revealing the news and added the caption: “moving up in the world guys! tomorrow Grimes will be included in the #bazaaricons list! (sic)”
Grimes – whose real name is Claire Boucher – recently insisted being a famous artist is mostly down to luck, and even if she wasn’t well-known she would still be making music.
She said: “For anyone who is successful in art, it’s 90 per cent luck and chance.
“If you’re talented and you’re not getting anywhere, you shouldn’t feel bad. It’s not just hard work and talent.
“I’d still be able to make records because I own all the equipment and I have all the skills.”
The star previously admitted several music producers have tried to pressure her into having sex with them.
She said: “I will say that I’ve been in numerous situations where male producers would literally be like, ‘We won’t finish the song unless you come back to my hotel room.’
“If I was younger or in a more financially desperate situation, maybe I would have done that. I don’t think there are few female producers because women aren’t interested. It’s difficult for women to get in. It’s a pretty hostile environment.”

Marcel Somerville proud of Blazin’ Squad’s music

OHMYGOSSIP — Marcel Somerville believes Blazin’ Squad’s music has stood the test of time.
The 31-year-old rapper was just 16 when he found fame with the group and he believes that some of their biggest hits could be successful today.
He told The Observer magazine: “It’s quite touching to think that a new generation of kids are listening to our tunes and still like them. You’d think some songs would get dated, but Flip Reverse and Crossroads, they’ll be able to stand the test of time.”
And Marcel believes one reason he never went off the rails is because the band were surrounded by a good team.
He said: “It was crazy. It could go to your head, but we always had good people around us. You couldn’t really go to the shops or anything, so we’d be at our homes, writing songs. It did take over our lives.”
Marcel recently found fame again on ‘Love Island’ and has said there is a possibility that Blazin’ Squad, who disbanded in 2009, will release new material this year.
He said: “There’s a possibility of a little thing happening.”
But, although the group have been talking about making a comeback, the 31-year-old hunk – who was known as Rocky B Plat’num during the band’s heyday – doesn’t know if he’ll rejoin them completely as he wants to see what comes from his ‘Love Island’ success.
He explained: “I haven’t agreed to anything yet but I probably will turn up. A few of the boys came to the airport when we arrived back from Majorca.
“They were like, ‘Marce, there’s so much stuff on the table man’. I was like, ‘Alright – let me see this stuff first and we will go from there.’ ”

HBO to air Lady Gaga documentary

OHMYGOSSIP — HBO will air a new documentary on Lady Gaga in September.
The one-off special will give fans unprecedented access to the 31-year-old singer/songwriter and will focus on the past year of her life, including the release of her comeback album ‘Joanne’ last October.
A source told The Sun on Sunday: “This the first time Gaga has offered no-holds-barred access like this.
“And the past 12 months have been huge for her.
“She made her comeback with her fifth album last October, split from her fiancé Taylor Kinney and broke into the acting world with American Horror Story.
“The film will cover all these pivotal moments in a very candid fashion.
“They had hoped to have the film ready in time to premiere at Cannes Film Festival in May but it took longer than anticipated.”
Meanwhile, Gaga – whose real name is Stefani Germanotta – is now on tour until October and has promised fans that she will debut some new material on the road.
She recently said: “Absolutely. It’s going to be really fun and I’m really excited, the stage [for the tour] has been designed and it’s being built. We’ve been building the story of the show since the Super Bowl, and we’re beginning to delineate where we want choreography, what songs I’d like to play at the piano, and lighting is a big thing this year. The stage is very different from anything we’ve ever done before.”

Sam Smith names comeback record after family home

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Smith has named his comeback record after his family home.
The 25-year-old singer – whose debut album ‘In The Lonely Hour’ was released in 2014 – recently unveiled a mysterious ‘TPH-50HR’ tattoo on his chest while filming the video for his latest single and it has been revealed as a reference to where he grew up.
According to the Daily Star, it stands for The Pink House 50 Heydon Road, Sam’s childhood home.
A source said: “”Sam has chosen the title as the ultimate tribute to his parents Fred and Kate and sisters who have always supported his dream.
“They never once tried to dissuade him following his dreams, so it’s a very personal record.”
Meanwhile, Sam recently revealed he can’t stand his single, ‘Money On My Mind’, though he believes most of the tracks from his first LP are “classic”.
He said: “There’s a few songs I really hate, but then the core of the album, songs like ‘Stay With Me’, ‘I’m Not The Only One’ – actually all the songs except ‘Money On My Mind’ – I really love and I’m really proud of the classic-ness of the way they sound, because I still listen to them now and I still love them.
“There are a few moments [on the album] where I think to myself, ‘I would have changed that. I would have done that differently’.”
The star also admitted he had a “panic” about the musical direction he should take on his first record due to the popularity of ‘Latch’, a dance track by Disclosure which he featured on in 2012.
He said: “As soon as ‘Latch’ had a lot of success in the UK, my label and me had a little bit of a panic.
“We were like, ‘Maybe we should be doing dance?’ And that’s what I can hear on [my first] album – there’s two or three songs where I can hear the little wobble, but the rest of the album is what I set out to make from the beginning.
“But I still love my album, but I’m loving my new one more.”

Neil Young’s extensive online archive

OHMYGOSSIP — Neil Young’s online music archive will feature his entire back catalogue along with “unreleased albums”.
The 71-year-old musician has launched the website neilyoungarchives.com, which will allow fans to access all of his music in one place.
He wrote in a note on the site: “Every single, recorded track or album I have produced is represented.
“View all albums currently released and see albums still unreleased and in production just by using the controls to zoom through the years. Unreleased album art is simply penciled in so you can where unreleased albums will appear on the timeline, once they are completed.”
And Neil revealed that the site will be constantly updated with new information.
He explained: “We have attempted to highlight the creative process and the creators. A lot of people and work are behind the music we hear.
“The musical information found here is a work in progress, always growing and adapting to new information as we find it. We have done our best to find all of the background pertinent to this music.
“The NYA Timeline shows you when and how the music was made. Every single, recorded track or album I have produced is represented. It is always current. You can browse through the music I made between today’s date and 1963, when I made my first recording in Canada and it was released as a 45 RPM single.”
He did not say when the archive will go live but promised it is “coming soon”.

Fall Out Boy delay album by four months

OHMYGOSSIP — Fall Out Boy have delayed the release of their LP ‘MANIA’ because they felt they’d “rushed” it.
The emo pop punk band’s frontman Patrick Stump took to Twitter on Thursday evening (03.08.17) to post a lengthy note explaining that they have decided to wait until January 19 to drop the eagerly-anticipdated follow-up to 2015’s ‘American Beauty/American Psycho’, because they want to give fans the quality they deserve.
Their seventh studio album was originally meant to be coming on September 15, but they will now have an extra four months to make a polished masterpiece.
The ‘Uma Thurman’ hitmaker wrote: “The album just isn’t ready, and it felt very rushed,” he told his fans. “I’m never going to put a record out I genuinely don’t believe is as strong or valid as the one that came before it. (sic)”
The 33-year-old rocker joked about how had been thinking of “fun” ways, like him becoming a superhero and saving bassist Pete Wentz’ guitar from their burning down studio, to explain the fact they just need more time on the project, but it is what it is.
He added: “I know we’re supposed to come up with some really exciting story to spin in pull-quotes about how the studio exploded and I ran in to save Pete’s bass or something. Or like aliens stole the master tapes. That would be fun for sure but the truth is, we just want the record to be better than we can make it in the next couple weeks and it will require a little more time. (sic)”
Pete recently said he believes it is important for the band to continue to evolve, rather than just making music that sounds like fan-pleasing classic work.
He said: “I think we have to just move forward – that’s the goal of us (I don’t mean the band; I mean humans) – we just need to evolve.
“No one wants to be who they were two years ago or 10 years ago… it’s great to have that snapshot, but it’s time to hang up your hat when you think your glory days are behind you.
“I think the sound of FOB will always come with us because of the nature of how Patrick sings against the music – it is just inherently there.”

Haim’s Este ‘talks to Prince in her head every day’

OHMYGOSSIP — Haim’s Este says she speaks to Prince “in her head” every day.
The 31-year-old singer – joined in the pop three-piece with sisters Danielle and Alana – was left distraught when the late ‘Kiss’ hitmaker passed away in April last year, as she is obsessed with his music and artistry so much and still likes to think she can imagine them having conversations.
Este was lucky enough to provide the backing vocals to his hit ‘Let’s Go Crazy’ when they shared the stage at Saturday Night Live’s 40th anniversary bash in 2015, and still has goose pimples every time she thinks about the magical moment.
She told Friday’s (04.08.17) issue of NME magazine: “In my head I talk to him every day. There was definitely an energy, a mood that I’m hoping was The Symbol, The Artist Formerly Known As, Whatever-You’d-Like-To-Call-Him, in the room that day.”
The ‘Want You Back’ singer remembers little else from the night, other than Prince floating like an angel as he walked out, as she “blacked out” after that.
Describing the moment he emerged, Este added: “He glided like, floated onto the stage. After he started playing ‘Let’s Go Crazy’ I cannot tell you what happened because I blacked out.”
On the day Prince died, on April 21, Alana had the devastating task of telling Este her idol had passed away over the phone.
She was driving at the time and had to stop the car and pull up in a lay-by to digest the sad news.
The girls were on their way to the studio in Los Angeles to work with Blood Orange – real name Dev Hynes – and Este says the track they recorded, ‘You Never Knew’, was written as if Prince was telling them stop crying and put their emotions into music.
She explained: “It felt like such a cosmic thing. I was like, f*** feeling sad, Prince wants us to write a song.”

Billy Bragg drops global warming threat single

OHMYGOSSIP — Billy Bragg raises awareness of the imminent threat of global warming on his new single ‘King Tide And The Sunny Day Flood’.
The folk rock star – who has had politics and his activism at the centre of his songwriting during his 30-year career – felt obliged to address the struggles in Florida, California, where people’s livelihoods are being ruined by torrential floods caused by the rise in the sea level due to the melting ice-caps in the Antarctic, after a recent tour of the US.
The ‘California Stars’ hitmaker says people need to “act now” before the rest of the world is succumb to the dangers of the greenhouse effect.
Speaking about the “stark realities” of climate change, Billy said: “Sunny day flooding is a coastal phenomenon in which strong tides cause water to gush up from drains and beneath the ground, swamping basements and inundating roads.
“Rises in sea level due to melting ice-caps are making it an increasingly common occurrence in Florida, where some residential areas are experiencing it on an almost monthly basis.
“These communities are canaries in the mine, already living with the stark realities of climate change that some still deny is happening.
“On a planet the surface of which is 70 per cent water, in which the temperature of oceans drives our weather systems, we will all be affected by global warming unless we act now to limit the damage done.”
‘King Tide And The Sunny Day Flood’, which is out now, was recorded in Tottenham, Greater London, and features pedal steel guitar by talented instrumentalist C J Hillman.
Bragg, 59, is set to return to the US this October for a tour and has a tour of Europe in November.

Arcade Fire have ABBA-sounding songs stored away

OHMYGOSSIP — Arcade Fire have written ABBA-sounding songs – but they are yet to release them.
The American rockers aren’t afraid to admit they are fans of the Swedish pop superstars – who won ‘Eurovision’ in 1974 – and have revealed they recorded some Europop disco anthems while making their 2004 LP ‘Funeral’.
The ‘Ready to Start’ group’s extremely talented multi-instrumentalist, Richard Reed Parry, says he wishes he wrote ABBA’s biggest hit ‘Dancing Queen’.
Speaking about recording ‘Funeral’, Richard recalled: “The thing is, we’ve always tried to write songs that sound like ABBA but none ever made it out alive and onto our records.
“When we were working on ‘Funeral’, we kicked around song ideas that sounded a lot like ABBA.
“It’s not like we chose a new influence. We’ve always loved ABBA and ‘Dancing Queen’ is the greatest jam of all time. We’ve always wanted to write a song like that.”
The band are also massively influenced by late music legends Davie Bowie and Prince, and wrote the track ‘Electric Blue’ from the latest record ‘Everything Now’ about their idols’ deaths.
‘Starman’ hitmaker Bowie was also a fan of Arcade Fire and supplied backing vocals for their 2013 single ‘Reflektor’.
Bowie and Prince also dabbled in the disco sound and the track is reminiscent of that, though Will Butler of the group says they wouldn’t have felt confident enough to perform ‘Electric Blue’ a decade ago.
He told The Sun newspaper: “That song [‘Electric Blue’] had a lot to do with David Bowie and Prince dying, looking at their legacies and the music they loved and created. The losses of both were important events in our lives.
“We’ve always loved that music but have never been technically competent to play it.
“We couldn’t play a song like ‘Electric Blue’ 10 years ago but we’ve become better musicians.”

Björk’s new record is a ‘Tinder album’

OHMYGOSSIP — Björk says her new record is her “Tinder album”.
The Icelandic singer-songwriter hasn’t released a record since ‘Vulnicura’ in 2015 – but has now given her fans an insight into what they can expect from her new album.
She explained: “This is like my Tinder album. It’s about that search [for utopia] – and about being in love.
“Spending time with a person you enjoy on every level is obviously utopia, you know? I mean, it’s real. It’s when the dream becomes real.”
Björk’s last album detailed her break-up from artist Matthew Barney, but the 51-year-old star has claimed her new record focuses more on her dating life.
She told Dazed magazine: “I set myself up with the last album being a heartbreak album, so everyone’s gonna be like, ‘Are you married?’ with this one. But … it’s too fragile still.
“I think, if I could, I’d just say this is my dating album. Let’s just leave it there.”
Meanwhile, Björk previously bemoaned the lack of women writing music about serious issues.
The singer said female artists face a pressure to focus their music on specific issues.
Writing on Facebook in December, she said: “Women in music are allowed to be singer songwriters singing about their boyfriends. If they change the subject matter to atoms, galaxies, activism, nerdy math beat editing or anything else than being performers singing about their loved ones they get criticized: journalists feel there is just something missing … as if our only lingo is emo …
“If we dont cut our chest open and bleed about the men and children in our lives we are cheating our audience. (sic)”

Ed Sheeran is the next Keith Richards

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran is the next Keith Richards, according to Jamie Lawson.
The ‘Wasn’t Expecting That’ singer – who was the first act signed to Ed’s Gingerbread Man Records in 2015 – says the 26-year-old flame-haired star can hold his drink just like the Rolling Stones legend, 73, who was notorious for necking back large quantities of alcohol and turning up drunk on stage.
The pair recently got the chance to catch up when Ed performed at London’s Royal Albert for Teenage Cancer Trust earlier this year, and no doubt knocked back a few alcoholic beverages as they toasted in the ‘Shape of You’ hitmaker’s success.
Jamie said: “We have been out a few times and he is able to put them back, it’s actually quite incredible, he does like a beer.
“We went out after he played the Royal Albert Hall, that was a good night out and it’s great just to catch up and say well done for everything he’s achieved.
“I don’t have the same drinking skills, but I’m a bit older so maybe that’s why.”
Jamie has also been trying to keep his pal grounded by taking him to cafes and he was surprised that no one recognised him.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: “I took him to this cafe in Bermondsey, which was really weird, I don’t think he’s been to a cafe like that in a while, but he loved it.
“It was strange as I don’t think anybody even recognised him!”
Ed previously revealed that he predicted Jamie’s single ‘Wasn’t Expecting That’ would be a number one hit while they were touring Australia and made a bet that they would end up drunk dancing on tables if it topped the charts, which it did.
He said: “The first tour I took Jamie on was Australia and I said if we get your song to No1 by the end of the tour I have to get you smashed and you have to dance on the table and everyone was like: ‘That’s never going to happen’. By the end of the tour it did, he was on a table…”
Ed has co-wrote Jamie’s new song ‘Can’t See Straight’ with regular collaborator Show Patrol’s Johnny McDaid from his forthcoming fifth studio album ‘Happy Accidents’, which is due for release in September.
