Grant Hart dies

OHMYGOSSIP — Hüsker Dü’s Grant Hart has died.
The drummer and co-singer has lost a battle with cancer at the age of 56, his former bandmate Bob Mould has confirmed.
Bob – who was also joined in the band by bassist Greg Norton –
shared a heartfelt Facebook post reflecting on his long friendship with Grant.
He wrote: “It was the Fall of 1978. I was attending Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. One block from my dormitory was a tiny store called Cheapo Records. There was a PA system set up near the front door blaring punk rock. I went inside and ended up hanging out with the only person in the shop. His name was Grant Hart.
“The next nine years of my life was spent side-by-side with Grant. We made amazing music together. We (almost) always agreed on how to present our collective work to the world. When we fought about the details, it was because we both cared. The band was our life. It was an amazing decade.
“We stopped working together in January 1988. We went on to solo careers, fronting our own bands, finding different ways to tell our individual stories. We stayed in contact over the next 29 years — sometimes peaceful, sometimes difficult, sometimes through go-betweens. For better or worse, that’s how it was, and occasionally that’s what it is when two people care deeply about everything they built together.(sic)”
Bob admitted his friend’s death was “not unexpected” and he sent his best wishes to his former bandmate’s loved ones, including wife Brigid McGough and their son.
He continued: “The tragic news of Grant’s passing was not unexpected to me. My deepest condolences and thoughts to Grant’s family, friends, and fans around the world.
“Grant Hart was a gifted visual artist, a wonderful story teller, and a frighteningly talented musician. Everyone touched by his spirit will always remember.
“Godspeed, Grant. I miss you. Be with the angels.”
A number of other musicians have taken to social media to pay tribute to the influential rocker.
Ryan Adams tweeted: “RIP Grant Hart. Your music saved my life. It was with me the day I left home. It’s with me now. Travel safely to the summerlands.”
And Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong discussed how influential
Hüsker Dü were on him and his bandmates.
He wrote on Instagram: “This one hurt. Bad. The passing of Grant Hart of Hüsker Dü .. there are no words that describe the huge impact that Grant Hart and Bob Moulds music on Green Day.
“When we first started we listened to Warehouse songs and stories, candy apple gray, flip your wig constantly. We were 16 years old. Hüsker Dü was our favorite band. We became a three piece because of Hüsker.
“We went through adolescence listening to this band. I wanted to be a song writer because of Hüsker Dü To put it simply there would be no GD if it wasn’t for Hüsker Dü ..
“Grant where ever you are , I don’t have to put on your records to listen to them. They are memorized in my head. “Please leave a number and a message at the tone Or you can just go on and leave me alone” heart breaking #granthart #hüskerdü (sic)”
Billy Idol wrote: “Sad 2 Grant Hart of Husker Du has passed…(I’ve recently had some Husker Du in my ‘Live Transmission’ playlist)… (sic)”

Stormzy confirms Jay-Z watched him at V Festival

OHMYGOSSIP — Stormzy has confirmed Jay-Z watched him from side of stage at V Festival.
The grime superstar’s life was made when he found out his hero witnessed him shut down the music event in Chelmsford, Essex last month, and revealed he had no idea till he’d finished his set that the hip-hop icon was there for his song ‘Big For Your Boots’.
Speaking on BBC Radio 1 for his Live Lounge special, the 24-year-old rapper said: “Jay-Z was at the side of the stage for that one. I didn’t know.
“I came off after and all the Mandem were running round excited.
“OK, something exciting has happened.
“And then I heard Jigga was side of stage and I was so happy because he was there for ‘Big For Your Boots’.
“I was so excited. You came for ‘Big For Your Boots’ everyone was showing love and you came and saw me…”
The ‘Shut Up’ hitmaker – who is tipped to take home the 2017 Hyundai Mercury Prize at the ceremony this evening (14.09.17) –
didn’t get the chance to speak with Jay – who is often nicknamed ‘Jigga’ – after his performance, but he’s hoping it could leave to them working together in the future.
He said: “For him to witness that moment … I haven’t seen or spoke to him since.
“I’ve never even spoken to him or met him.
“All I know is that Jigga watched me and that is the end of it.
“I don’t know what comes from that, I am just blessed when it comes to things like that.

Last week, EA Sports has announced the improvements to Career Mode in ‘FIFA 18’, with the biggest improvements being to the mode revolve around transfers with negotiations now taking place in real-time with an interactive cut scene as opposed to the old method of submitting an offer for a player and then having to wait for a response.

Naughty Boy announces Motown covers album

OHMYGOSSIP — Naughty Boy has reworked Motown classic ‘Dancing Machine’ by The Jackson 5 with Laura Mvula.
The 32-year-old producer – whose real name is Shahid Khan – has put together a new covers project called ‘Naughty Town’ , which features some of the biggest stars in the industry, in a bid to make the 70s genre popular again.
The ‘Running’ hitmaker admits he was a little apprehensive about remaking such iconic songs, but as a music lover he’s sure he’s done them justice.
Of the project, Naughty Boy said: “Motown is so iconic, at first I didn’t want to interfere in case I upset the millions of Motown fans. It took me a while to think I can do this, I can deliver. I realised it’s the coming together of music lovers and great songs.”
Laura, 31, was thrilled to be invited to feature on the compilation and knew straight away she wanted to do ‘Dancing Machine’ because she has spent most of her career wanting to sound like the ‘ABC’ hitmakers.
Speaking of the track, the ‘Green Garden’ singer said: “‘Dancing Machine’ has always been one of my favourite Jackson 5 tracks so when Shah said he was doing an album of reworked Motown classics it was my first thought.
“I grew up listening to and emulating the Jackson 5 so to get a chance to re-interpret and pay respect to some of that genius was really special.
“Motown deserves endless credit so hopefully this will highlight the incredible catalogue.”
Naughty Boy is yet to unveil the full track-listing and special guest vocalists.
‘Dancing Machine’ is out now.

Gene Simmons says his boxset is worth two iPhone Xs

OHMYGOSSIP — Gene Simmons has shut down criticism over the price of his $2,000 boxset ‘The Vault’, insisting it costs the same as two Apple iPhone Xs.
The Kiss rocker released the compilation on Tuesday (12.09.17) for the eye-watering sum, the same day the brand new phone was launched, but he thinks fans are getting a bargain compared to the $999 cell as his record features never-heard-before music by Bob Dylan and Van Halen.
When interviewed by shocked presenters on ‘Fox and Friends’ about his latest offering to fans, he hit back: “$2000. Just take a breath for a second. That’s (the price of) two iPhones!
“You have no idea, this is a 50-year record, that includes 150 songs that I’ve written over the years and recorded that have never been released.
“A few songs with Bob Dylan, Bob and I sitting around strumming chords, that’s in there, you’ve got three Van Halen songs.”
What’s more, he’ll hand deliver ‘The Vault’ – which comes in a safe and also includes a leather-bound book, and action figure – to anyone, anywhere, who is willing to pay $50,000.
And he thinks the idea is groundbreaking in the music industry.
He added: “So Unlike, anyone, anywhere, of anytime that’s ever done, I’m going to pay for my own flights, if you’re in Oulu, Finland, or if you’re in Muscat in Moscow, I will get on a plane and I will deliver your box set to you. I will go to you.
“Now pragmatically, it means a general area. If you live in the north Pole, let’s pick somewhere closer.”
Gene recorded ‘Love Gun-era’ demos featuring Eddie and Alex Van Halen and the demos ‘Christine Sixteen,’ ‘Got Love For Sale,’ and ‘Tunnel Of Love’ are among those listed in ‘The Vault’ as part of the massive collection.
The ‘Crazy Nights’ hitmaker will hand deliver the packages during the ‘Vault World Tour’, which kicks off in January 2018 until December.
And those willing to flash the cash will also get the chance to spend two hours with the rocker and up to 25 friends, attend a playback session and Q&A with the man himself.
The rock band’s singer-and-bassist has also announced the release of several “experiences” for fans to mark 50 years in the music business.
A statement reads: “Gene Simmons: The Vault Experience commemorates and celebrates Simmons’ notorious five-decade journey as a rock icon, offering fans around the world a limited-edition collectible vault with contents that offer a unique look into The Demon’s colourful life, including never-before-released songs, photos, stories and collectible items.”

Frank Carter opens up on depression

OHMYGOSSIP — Frank Carter has cancelled his upcoming tour to battle his “demons” after opening up on his struggle with his mental health.
The rock star – who previously fronted hardcore band Gallows, and is now at the helm for Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes – updated his fans in a candid post on his group’s Facebook page, explaining why he had made the decision take a break from life on the road for the sake of his own wellbeing.
He wrote: “When life gets dark inside there is no outside light that is bright enough to show you a safe passage. When you cannot find the light in yourself, that is when the real fight begins. Recently I have found myself fighting harder and much more frequently than I think is either healthy or acceptable.
“No person should ever have to constantly fight through demons.
“So instead, I am taking some time away from touring to focus on finding the light within myself to be able to always find a safe passage through any situation that the dark labyrinthine confines of my mind can throw at me.”
The star thanked fans for their understanding, and insisted while he is “not ok”, he will be as he steps away to become a “stronger, happier and healthier person”.
In a brave and inspirational note to fans, he added: “If you are struggling with the weight of the world around you, please talk to someone. Embarrassment breeds Shame, shame breeds loneliness and loneliness will kill you if you let it. You are not alone.”

Radiohead and Hans Zimmer re-work song for Blue Planet II

OHMYGOSSIP — Radiohead have teamed up with Hans Zimmer on a soundtrack for BBC documentary ‘Blue Planet II’.
The ‘Creep’ rockers and the legendary TV and movie composer have reworked the band’s song ‘Bloom’ from their 2011 album ‘The King of Limbs’, which will appear in a five-minute prequel for the new series – which is narrated by presenter Sir David Attenborough – released globally by BBC Worldwide at 12pm on September 27.
The new version features orchestration recorded at London’s iconic AIR studios with the BBC Concert Orchestra.
The collaboration, which will also see frontman Thom Yorke re-record the vocals, is being produced by Russell Emanuel of Bleeding Fingers Music, the company which also crafted the BAFTA and Emmy-nominated score to BBC’s ‘Planet Earth II’.
Thom said: “‘Bloom’ was inspired by the original ‘Blue Planet’ series so it’s great to be able to come full circle with the song and re-imagine it for this incredible landmark’s sequel.
“Hans is a prodigious composer who effortlessly straddles several musical genres so it was liberating for us all to work with such a talent and see how he wove the sound of the series and ‘Bloom’ together.”
‘Titanic’ composer Hans was thrilled to get to work with Radiohead and has heaped praised on his collaborators.
He commented: “‘Bloom’ appears to have been written ahead of its time as it beautifully reflects the jaw-dropping lifeforms and seascapes viewers are introduced to in ‘Blue Planet II’. Working with Thom, Jonny and the boys has been a wonderful diversion and it’s given me an interesting peek into their musical world.
“They’ve been incredible to work with and I hope everyone likes the track.”
Blue Planet II’s Executive Producer James Honeyborne added: “This collaboration between an iconic Grammy-winning band and an Oscar-winning orchestral composer is simply mouthwatering – and (ocean) Bloom doesn’t disappoint. It’s an incredibly powerful companion to the scenes we’ve spent years capturing. What a great curtain-raiser to the upcoming series that we just can’t wait to share with everyone.”
‘Blue Planet II’ will air later this year on BBC One in the UK.

Dido is back in the studio

OHMYGOSSIP — Dido is making music again.
The British singer – who rose to fame in 2000 when she collaborated with Eminem on his hit ‘Stan’, which soared to number one in 11 countries – is back in the studio working on “classic Dido” tracks for a new album to be released in 2018.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “She is back in the studio and working on new material which sounds like classic Dido – with big ballads which will remind people of White Flag and Thank You.
“She’s had a lengthy break but she’s not lost any of her gift for an anthemic chorus. It’s early days but her fans are not going to be disappointed.”
Dido’s 1999 album ‘No Angel’ sold over 21 million copies worldwide and the first single, ‘Here With Me’, broke the charts when it was used as the theme to the hit teen series ‘Roswell’ and then in the iconic Christmas movie ‘Love Actually’.
However, it was the track ‘Thank You’ that brought her worldwide success when Eminem heard it and asked for her permission to sample it on ‘Stan’.
The pair also hit it off as friends and she appeared in the music video as Stan’s pregnant girlfriend.
Her follow up 2003 album, ‘Life For Rent’, produced the hits ‘White Flag’ and ‘Life For Rent’.
Dido’s third album ‘Safe Trip Home’ was released in November 2008 and her fourth, ‘Girl Who Got Away’, in 2013.
Later this year, Eminem is also releasing a new record, after returning to the UK to headline Reading and Leeds festival in August.
The 44-year-old rapper – whose last record was 2013’s ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2’ – has teamed up with his long-time collaborator Dr. Dre on some tracks.

Foo Fighters’ new album saved them from extinction

OHMYGOSSIP — Foo Fighters’ new album gave them a reason “to remain a band”.
Frontman Dave Grohl says they were feeling uninspired at the beginning of their hiatus in March last year, which was brought on by exhaustion after doing 60 shows around the world.
The former Nirvana drummer spent most of his days at home living a reclusive lifestyle, but before long he was desperate to get back in the studio.
However, the 48-year-old rocker says it took him a while to get his music-making mojo back and he admits the record, which became ‘Concrete and Gold’ – which is out on Friday (15.09.17 – needed to save them from extinction.
In a candid interview with The Times newspaper, he spilled: “All I wanted to do at the end of that tour was go away. Emotionally, physically and mentally we were exhausted. We had to stop this band before we killed it, so we took a big, long break, which we had never done before. I went into my Brian Wilson period, not leaving the house for weeks on end, growing a big beard and refusing to change out of my pyjamas. I was lacking inspiration. Eventually knowing we needed an album that gave us a reason to remain a band, I went into my home studio and started fooling around. And I hit a vein.”
Not only was Dave emotionally wrecked, but he’d also been performing from a throne after breaking his leg on stage in Gothenburg.
Meanwhile, the ‘Sky Is A Neighbourhood’ hitmaker also opened up about being in ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ group Nirvana, which dissolved in 1994, after frontman Kurt Cobain killed himself, which taught him to make sure the band’s health and safety is their top priority.
He said: “We get a bad rep for being a safe dad-rock band, but don’t forget where I came from.
“I was in the band where heroin addiction was a problem, where one of the members committed suicide, and that is the last place I want to be. I’m a musician. I love playing music for people, and what happened in Nirvana was horrible. And it all happened so quickly, nobody had a chance to take a breath and think about what was going on.
“This time we’re a little more concerned with the health and safety of each other, and about making business and relationships work, because I can’t do anything else and I don’t want to go back to working in a pizza restaurant.”

Ringo Starr is keeping a secret from Bob Geldof

OHMYGOSSIP — Ringo Starr is in favour of Brexit – but he doesn’t want Bob Geldof to know.
The Beatles legend has revealed that, unlike his former bandmate Sir Paul McCartney, he supports Britain’s decision to leave the European Union (EU), although he doesn’t plan to tell the politically-conscious musician of his thoughts.
He said: “The people voted and, you know, they have to get on with it.
“Suddenly, it’s like, ‘Oh, well, we don’t like that vote. What do you mean you don’t like that vote? You had the vote, this is what won, let’s get on with it.”
During an appearance on BBC’s ‘Newsnight’, Ringo reiterated his support for the plan to leave Europe, before adding: “But don’t tell Bob Geldof.”
By contrast, Sir Paul previously admitted he didn’t vote in the EU referendum because he was on tour at the time.
But he said: “I think I would have come down on the remain side because people like the Governor of the Bank of England, a lot of financial experts, were saying that.”
Meanwhile, Ringo recently admitted he reads spiritual books to get himself “through the day”.
The 77-year-old former Beatles member revealed the secrets to his good health, admitting his vegetarian diet and spiritual routine have been the keys to his longevity.
He explained: “I have a meditation practice. I pray to the god of my understanding, and I read spiritual books – day-at-a-time books, things like that that help you get through the day.”

Mark Ronson hit with second Uptown Funk copyright lawsuit

OHMYGOSSIP — Mark Ronson has been hit with another copyright infringement lawsuit over ‘Uptown Funk’.
The 42-year-old producer released the song featuring Bruno Mars back in 2014, and is being sued for a second time, this time by the company who own the rights to ‘More Bounce To The Ounce’ by Roger and Zapp.
Lastrada Entertainment, who own the rights to the 80s classic, have filed a case against Mark, claiming he copied the track.
The company are requesting a ban is in put place for future plays of the track and damages.
TMZ reports that ’24K Magic’ singer Bruno’s vocals are a “clear copy” of 48 seconds of the track.
However, the 31-year-old R&B star has not been named as a defendant in the case.
Lastrada are also reportedly suing Sony, Spotify, Apple and other producers involved in ‘Uptown Funk’.
Court documents state that Mark had been in touch with Roger and Zapp about the song and that he has always cited the duo as an influence.
In 2016, funk band Collage threatened to sue the ‘Stop Me’ hitmaker as they claimed the Grammy-winning hit sounded “almost indistinguishable’ from their 1983 song ‘Young Girls’
Mark and Bruno had both previously stated the track was inspired by 1980s electro-funk soul music, and so the pair could easily have heard ‘Young Girls’ and been influenced by it.
Another band named The Sequence claimed the track copied their 1979 song ‘Funk You Up’.
However, no lawsuit was filed for this case.

Justin Bieber claims he made Marilyn Manson ‘relevant again’

OHMYGOSSIP — Marilyn Manson has claimed Justin Bieber recently told him he’s made him “relevant” again.
The 48-year-old rocker has been locked in a bitter feud with the ‘Sorry’ hitmaker after he used an image of him without his consent in his ‘Purpose World Tour’ merchandise in 2016.
Speaking to Consequence of Sound, Manson said: “He was [already] wearing the shirt that had his name on my shirt, and he said to me, ‘I made you relevant again.’ Bad mistake to say to me. He was a real piece of sh*t in the way he had the arrogance to say that. He was a real touchy-feely guy, too, like, ‘yo yo bro!’ and touches you when he’s talking. I’m like, ‘you need to stand down, you’re d**k height on me, ok?’ Alright? So stand down son.’
“The next day I told him I’d be at his soundcheck at Staples Center to do ‘Beautiful People’.”
Manson claimed he was joking and never had any intention of turning up to sing with him, but the 23-year-old pop star believed that he’d show up because he was “that stupid.”
And, despite the feud, Mason has revealed he “took all the proceeds” from the repurposed shirts because Justin’s team reportedly knew they were “in the wrong.”
He explained to the publication: “They [Justin’s team] didn’t even fight, they were just like, ‘yeah, we already know, we did wrong, so here’s the money.’ ”
Manson first heard that Justin was planning to re-interpret his shirt last year when the brand’s designer Jerry Lorenzo thanked him for “signing off the new design” and understanding.
He posted on Instagram at the time: “@marilynmanson for signing off on the ‘Bigger than Satan’ x #jb tee. Thanks for understanding our approach and re-interpretation of your vision.”
But Manson is adamant no one had contacted him about the shirt prior to the online post.

Gary Barlow gets selfie snubbed

OHMYGOSSIP — Take That’s Gary Barlow was snubbed for a photo by a fan of Five to Five.
The 46-year-old singer is used to girls swooning around him to get a selfie and was left open-mouthed when he was asked to take a picture, but with the band which won his TV series ‘Let it Shine’ and not himself.
Speaking to Gemma, Mike and Matt on the Key 103 Breakfast show, he recalled: “We did a run through about a week ago in a hidden studio. There was this girl with all pictures and stuff, I said ‘Do you want a photo?’ And she went ‘No, I want one with Five to Five.’
“I was absolutely gutted for the first time, because she’s not a fan of us, she’s a fan of them, which is brilliant by the way.”
Since winning the BBC competition in February, Five To Five – made up of AJ, Curtis, Nick, Sario and Yazdan – have been touring in the musical ‘The Band’, but could see the ‘Giants’ hitmakers writing their own original songs in the future.
Mark Owen – also joined by Howard Donald in Take That – said: “We’d all love to write stuff for them. They’re going off now on a big tour, it’s a year and a half, they’re on the road now, playing eight shows a week, playing to 15,000 people every week. I hope they make fans as they go through these towns and venues and I’d love the idea of them having a record career at the end of all this.”

Carly Rae Jepsen taking time with album

OHMYGOSSIP — Carly Rae Jepsen is taking her time picking the “cream of the crop” from the songs she’s penned for her new album.
The ‘Call Me Maybe’ hitmaker doesn’t want to rush release her follow-up to 2015’s ‘Emotion’ or go with tracks which seem the most “obvious” choice.
Giving an update on the much-awaited release, she said: “I am writing, I can tell you that. This is the favourite part of what I do and that’s the creating a body of work.
“So when I am in this stage it is like getting tunnel vision. Whenever I am offered something I ask myself if it takes away from the album.
“Part of the process is over-writing. Like for this next project I am already 75 songs deep.
“I think I am nearly done with that and the next step is figuring out what is the cream of the crop from that group.”
The 31-year-old pop star wants to ensure that her new material is entirely different to her previous work.
She told The National: “I normally write in a bunch of different directions at once.
“Now, the thing that I noticed, generally with a lot of artists, is that we try to put out the most obvious choices.
“I am trying really hard not to do [that] and instead offer something fresh and different from what I did before.
“It is all about showing some kind of growth with each project.”
The blonde beauty – who is on the road with Katy Perry on her ‘WITNESS: Tour’ this month – recently said she has a “game plan” starting to take shape.
She said: “I’ll say this: I have my own little game plan, but life’s a mystery, and you never know what could happen.
“I’m open to a little flexibility in that, obviously. I don’t run the show in terms of what happens [when], but I definitely feel like I’m starting to have a game plan, yes.”

The ‘SexyBack’ singer ran into the group when they were recording their new LP ‘Concrete and Gold’ at EastWest studios in Los Angeles and quickly hit it off with frontman Dave Grohl, prompting him to ask if he could add his vocals to one of their songs so he had something to boast about to his friends.
Dave said of Justin: “We’d drink whiskey in the parking lot. He was really, really cool. Then the night before his last day, he says, ‘Can I sing on your record? I don’t want to push it, but – I just want to be able to tell my friends.”
The ‘Learn to Fly’ hitmakers agreed and the 36-year-old star recorded some ‘la la la’ sounds for one track.
Dave quipped recently: “He nailed it. I’m telling you – the guy’s going somewhere.”
And Justin isn’t the only famous star to appear on the record because Dave asked his friend Sir Paul McCartney to play drums on one track after the Beatles legend requested to work with their producer, Greg Kurstin, during their recording sessions.
