Kelly Jones is proud of Stereophonics’ success

OHMYGOSSIP — The Stereophonics’ Kelly Jones “can’t believe” the band has been together for “20 years”.
The 43-year-old lead singer of the group is proud the ‘Dakota’ himakers have “never” been forced to make a “comeback”, and have continued to release a “real catalogue of songs” that have all been successful, because he would “hate” it if the band were known as a “heritage act”.
The dark-haired hunk said: “I’d hate to be a heritage act.
“We’ve never become dependent on one song or album, we’ve never had to make a comeback and we have a real catalogue of songs.
“I’m in a very happy place with my band. I can’t believe it’s been 20 years as it feels like ten.”
Although Kelly has been in the music business for over two decades and has worked with music legends including The Who and U2, he still gets the same “buzz” for making music as he did when he first started out.
The musician – who is also in the group with Richard Jones, Adam Zindani, Jamie Morrison and touring member Tony Kirkham – told The Sun newspaper: “We’ve been lucky to have The Who, the Stones, Chilli Peppers and U2 ask us to go on tour with them and we enjoyed it all.
“When we first had success from headlining Glastonbury on the Pyramid Stage then playing V Festival, it all happened so fast.
“Now I’m used to things and am enjoying it all.
“Yesterday someone handed me the finished album ‘Scream Above the Sounds’ in cellophane for the first time.
“And I still get that buzz as I do putting in the hours in the studio — to the point where it drives me f*****g nuts and I can’t really listen to it again.
“So now I’m just dying to get back on the road and what a setlist we have to play from.”
And Kelly has advised his children Lolita Bootsy, 13, Misty, ten, and 19-month-old Riley – who he has with his wife Jakki Healy – to “go and get life”.
Speaking about his parenting advice, he said: “That’s what I try to tell my kids. Just go on because we have no control over what will happen.
“I grew up with a protective mum and dad because I lived in a small town.
“With my upbringing I almost had to train myself to encourage my kids to go and get life as much as they can.”

Hurts plan to win Eurovision

OHMYGOSSIP — Hurts have revealed they won’t be deterred from their plan to win the ‘Eurovision Song Contest’.
The British electro pop duo – formed in 2009 and made up of friends Adam Anderson and Theo Hutchcraft – have aspirations of giving the UK its first victory in the competition since Katrina and the Waves triumphed with ‘Love Shine A Light’ in 1997.
Speaking to The I Paper, the ‘Wonderful Life’ hitmakers – who have built a huge fan-base across Europe – pitched a song to the UK’s Eurovision selection committee, but withdrew it when it was suggested it should be performed by “an old legend or a reality TV star”.
Hutchcraft said: ” ‘We said, ‘No way, we’ve got this plan for how we’d win it’. So it all fell apart.”
The duo have refused to name the song, as they still hope to find a way to represent the country in the singing competition.
They’re preparing for a 29-date European tour, with only two of those dates in the UK.
Although the musicians are delighted with their success across the continent, they have hit out at the idea of simply being “big in Europe”.
Hutchcraft added: “It’s hard to explain to UK media that Poland and Germany aren’t the same place.
“Finland and Russia aren’t the same place. They’ve got their own tastes and styles. So you just can’t answer the question we often get asked, ‘Why are you big in Europe?'”

Rita Ora reveals Ed Sheeran sent her demo

OHMYGOSSIP — Rita Ora and Ed Sheeran collaborated on ‘Your Song’ after he sent her a demo of the track.
The 26-year-old singer is open to working with other musicians, and Rita was delighted when her long-time friend reached out when he heard she was working on her upcoming album.
Speaking to Tom Green at the KISS House Party Live at the SSE Arena, Wembley in London, Rita said: “We were friends for a long time, since we were 16. We had the same management before we released any music.
“He asked if I was still making my album, and he sent me a demo. I thought it was crazy great.”
Previously, Rita claimed “fate” helped make her Chris Brown collaboration ‘Body of Me’ possible when they ended up in the same studio session.
The British singer had already reached out to Chris through his direct messages on social media, and it made approaching him for the 2015 song so simple.
Rita explained: “It wasn’t to hook up with someone, it was for a collaboration. I wanted to work with Chris Brown, so I sent him ‘Body On Me’. That’s what’s so great about DMing.
“Then we were in the same studio session, and it was fate. So I walked in there and said you need to be on my song.”
Meanwhile, Rita recently discussed the differences between making her highly anticipated second album – which is due out in March 2018 – and her 2012 debut ‘Ora’.
She shared: “[It was a question of] who can contribute; hey, everyone, let’s jump in the basket.
“It definitely wasn’t how I thought albums were meant to be made. And now I see I was right: they’re not meant to be made like that.”

Clean Bandit pen song for Harry Styles

OHMYGOSSIP — Clean Bandit have written a song specifically for Harry Styles.
The ‘Rockabye’ hitmakers – made up of cellist Grace Chatto, keyboard player Jack Patterson and drummer Luke Patterson – have spent over two years working on the follow-up album to their 2014 debut ‘New Eyes’, and they have created a track specifically for the One Direction star.
Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper, Grace said: “We really want Harry Styles to sing one of the songs that we’ve got. I’ve been trying to get in contact with him, but it’s hard.”
New single ‘I Miss You’ was recorded with American singer Julia Michaels, who joins a long list of acclaimed female vocalists who have worked with the dance band, such as Jess Glynne, Louisa Johnson, Zara Larsson and Anne-Marie.
Although it seems as though Clean Bandit prefer to work with women, Grace insists they have recorded lots of music with male singers, people just haven’t heard them yet.
She explained: “We actually have made a few songs with male singers. We have one with Rhodes, with Elton John and Gallant, who is incredible.
“I might try to put those songs together, release all the boy songs before the album because they are all a bit more leftfield.”
Grace, 31, was particularly thrilled to work with Michaels, who penned Justin Bieber’s huge hit ‘Sorry’, which topped charts across the world in 2015.
She said: “That’s one of my favourite songs of all time. I couldn’t believe it when I first heard it I listened to it every day for a very long time. It was a real honour to work with her.”

Liam Gallagher slates Noel’s new dance track

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher has slated his brother Noel Gallagher’s newest single ‘Fort Knox’ – comparing it to a Christina Aguilera pop track.
The ‘Wall of Glass’ singer – whose debut solo album ‘As You Were’ recently topped the UK album charts – has had the chance to hear the song his older sibling has made with producer David Holmes and he is very underwhelmed by the dance track which is mostly instrumental with very few lyrics, which is the second track unveiled from the ‘Who Built The Moon?’ album.
Taking to Twitter, he posted: “This 1 sounds like Christina Aguilera riveting lyrics as you were LG x (sic)”
It comes after the 45-year-old singer made his feelings clear regarding Noel’s recent track ‘Holy Mountain’, claiming his former Oasis bandmate didn’t have the imagination to make a psychedelic album, which he has been talking up in recent weeks.
Asked his opinion on the song, he told Vulture: “Obviously you know what I’m going to say, but it’s not for me. Musically, I find it a bit annoying. I think there are too many notes in it, and it’s just a bit not risky. It’s not for me.”
The feeling seems mutual, with Noel recently hitting out at his brother’s chart-topping album, saying he wouldn’t listen to it because he wouldn’t “learn anything” from the LP as he has collaborated with other songwriters.
Despite his lack of interest in Noel’s new track, Liam is in a celebratory mood after his massive outdoor Finsbury Park show scheduled to take place in London on June 29, 2018 sold out in under five minutes on Friday morning (27.10.17).
The concert – which will feature of host of other acts across two stages – follows his sold-out UK arena tour.
In a series of tweets after the event sold out, Liam wrote: “Under dreaming spires to Finsbury Park that’s where I’ll be as you were LG x
“WOW massive THANKYOU seriously blown away by all your support this is gonna be BIBLICAL as you were LG x”

Sam Smith admits a break-up affected the recording of his LP

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Smith suffered from writer’s block when making his new album ‘The Thrill Of It All’ after falling into a deep sadness about a break-up.
The ‘Too Good At Goodbyes’ singer will release the follow-up to his acclaimed 2014 debut LP ‘In The Lonely Hour’ next Friday (03.11.17), and he has revealed the split from “the most beautiful, loveliest person in the world” left him in despair at himself more than the guy.
Sam, 25, says the separation inspired five songs on the record and his “saddest song” to date ‘Burning’, on which he sings about how he had “no friends to turn to” after the relationship ended.
Talking about how the split affected him, he told The Sun’s Bizarre Life podcast: “It wasn’t this hateful break-up, it was more about my relationship with myself. The reason it ended was because I had such a poor relationship with myself when I was writing this record and I didn’t like myself. Also I hate the word ‘dumped’. I wasn’t dumped, it just didn’t work out and he decided that it wasn’t working out, not me. So ‘dumped’!”
Sam took a break from his studio sessions and went on vacation with his family for three weeks and ramped up the partying and drinking in a big way, admitting he “flirted with danger” like lots of other 20-somethings.
But when he was due to return to work he found that he had lost his mojo for songwriting, but his team pulled him out of his “sad” mood.
He shared: “‘Burning’ is hands-down the most personal song I’ve ever written. I had broken up with a guy and I went on holiday with my family and had three weeks off from writing, which is the only period I had off from doing it. And I really went for it with the partying, I was just going out a lot. You sometimes wanna be a bit rebellious and you kind of want to ruin something great. That’s the only way I can explain it.”
Discussing how getting back to his music pulled him out of his despondent state, he added: “I flirted with a bit of danger when I was making the record. I don’t think I did anything that any other 25-year-old wouldn’t do, you know? I was just not looking after myself and just didn’t like what I was seeing in the mirror. And when I get sad about one thing I tend to get sad about everything else. It all came out and I couldn’t write. I couldn’t get in the studio and I was cancelling sessions.
“My team called me and they were like, ‘You’ve got to get into the studio.’
“It was music that saved me again and really just got my head in the right head space.”

Liam Gallagher: I won’t get over Oasis

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher “won’t get over” Oasis.
The 45-year-old rocker was the frontman of the ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’ hitmakers until their untimely split in 2009, and whilst his brother, rival, and former Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher is keen to leave the band behind, Liam has insisted he’s “still deeply grieving” its loss.
He said: “That f***ing band meant everything to me. Everything. It’s in my veins. It’s not about the money. I’m still deeply f***ing disturbed and still deeply grieving for that band.”
The ‘Wall of Glass’ singer – who formed Beady Eye with former Oasis members Gem Archer, Andy Bell, and Chris Sharrock before calling it quits in 2014 and then later pursuing a solo career – slammed those who tell him to “get over” the band’s split, and said it feels as though “part of [his] soul was ripped” out.
Speaking to NME for the first edition of NME Gold, Liam added: “I know it’s been nine years or however long it is, and I know people go, ‘Yeah, but get over it.’ But no. I won’t f***ing get over it. Maybe I need to go and see someone about it. The Ready Brek glow was there, and now it’s not. It was like part of my f***ing system and soul was ripped and f***ing just f***ed off to the side.”
Since Oasis split, Liam and his 50-year-old brother have been locked in a bitter feud, and the ‘For What It’s Worth’ musician recently admitted he wants to “hug it out” and make amends.
He said: “I hope we make up. Not just for Oasis but for brothers. Enough is enough now. I know I wind him up. I have put it out there enough times, but I think he doesn’t want to know. I reckon we would have to meet up and hug it out, as they say.”

Paul Weller unimpressed by Liam Gallagher’s As You Were

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Weller has criticised Liam Gallagher’s debut solo album ‘As You Were’ branding the lyrics “sub-standard”.
The ‘Changing Man’ rocker – who is close friends with Liam’s estranged brother Noel Gallagher – has had the chance to check the gold-certified LP but was underwhelmed by the tracks, describing them as too similar to Liam’s post-Oasis group Beady Eye’s output.
As part of Northern Transmissions’ Records In My Life series, 59-year-old Weller was pressed for his opinion on the songs, and said: “Musically, it just sounds like Beady Eye – which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it wasn’t a massive surprise or anything. But I think I’m more pleased that he’s out there doing that. The lyrics are pretty pony I thought, a little bit sub-standard.”
Liam, 45, has logged on to Twitter to vent his anger at Weller – who plays on the new Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds single ‘Holy Mountain’ – and dismiss The Modfather’s comments.
He tweeted: “I don’t give a f**k what Paul weller thinks I’ve never been 1 of his little b****es and he f***ing knows it. (sic)”
Despite being underwhelmed by Liam’s songwriting, Weller is pleased that the singer is back on tour and doing his “own thing”.
The ‘That’s Entertainment’ hitmaker said: “I’m glad for [Liam], I’m glad he’s got his own thing together and he’s out there doing it. I’m really pleased on that level.”
Liam previously blasted both Weller and former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr after their involvement in ‘Who Built The Moon?’, the third studio album from brother Noel, 50.
In a series of tweets, the ‘Greedy Soul’ songwriter wrote: “Psychedelic music by a beige drip is like a vegetarian trying to sell you a kebab as you were LG x … It takes more than wheeling out your old mate uri geller and har mar superstar to make a so called out there record snoozer as you were LG (sic)”
Weller plays the organ on ‘Holy Mountain’, while guitarist Marr has recorded guitars and harmonicas on ‘If Love Is The Law’ on the LP.

Metallica break O2 arena record

OHMYGOSSIP — Metallica have broken the attendance record at The O2 arena in London.
The ‘Nothing Else Matters’ rockers performed to 22,211 fans at the venue in the UK capital on Tuesday night (24.10.17), beating the previous record set by Muse’s 21,000-strong crowd in 2016.
Taking the ‘Time Is Running Out’ group’s 360-degree stage design to another level, Metallica – made up of Robert Trujillo, Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett – used the ‘in-the-round’ staging for their ‘WorldWired’ Tour.
The band performed from the middle of the area, and expanded the seating capacity which allowed them to set the new record.
Fans were immersed in the show through the stage design, and inventive 360 degree screens.
Head of programming Christian D’Acuna presented the ‘Sad But True’ heavy metal legends with an illustration specially commissioned to mark their achievement.
The artwork took its inspiration from the band’s own creative direction, and the iconic design of the London venue.
Christian said: “Metallica smashed the highest attendance record during both of their shows at The O2. It was an honour to host the heavy metal rock gods at the venue and they did not disappoint, delivering an incredible show in the round, full of hits spanning their whole career.
“It’s been a great year for rock bands at The O2, with the likes of Green Day and Foo Fighters gracing our stage and Queens Of The Stone Age and Deep Purple still to come; we hope the epic shows continue with our new 6k capacity standing floor.”

Kelly Clarkson wants to record with Sam Smith

OHMYGOSSIP — Kelly Clarkson would love to collaborate with Sam Smith and she has been a big fan of him since she heard him covering a Whitney Houston song.
The ‘Since U Been Gone’ hitmaker has heaped praise on the British artist, and hinted a duet with the ‘Writing’s On The Wall’ singer could be on the cards if she has any say in the matter.
Kelly, 35, can vividly remember catching Sam, 25, cover the late Whitney’s ‘How Will I Know’ and she was blown away by his vocal talents.
Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper, she said: “The UK have some great soulful, gospel singers. You have Sam Smith, and Adele killing it. Sam is such a great talent, I would absolutely love to work with him.
“He had me since he covered ‘How Will I Know’. I was like, ‘Excuse me – who is this boy right now covering Whitney Houston?’ He is super super talented, I am so in.”
The ‘Love So Soft’ singer will release her eight studio album ‘The Meaning of Life’ on Friday (27.10.17), and she is very proud of the LP because it is packed with live musicians playing.
She explained: “People really do crave that live musicianship that is on this album. I think the music industry is making a turn back towards that now.
“Sometimes you get three or four singles on albums, but I’m a fan of full records. Everyone could have been the lead single.”

Boy George has an unreleased George Michael duet

OHMYGOSSIP — Boy George has revealed he has an unreleased George Michael duet the pair recorded together – but he has no plans to make it public.
The 56-year-old Culture Club singer recorded ‘Freedom’, a studio version of his hit that they had performed together at an AIDS charity show in 1987, but the late ‘Faith’ singer wasn’t happy with the outcome from their session.
Speaking to News.com.au, he revealed: “We sang it together in the studio but he wasn’t happy with it, so it was never ever released. I know what he was like. It’s one of the things I admired about him. I always imagined him in the laboratory with a white coat – his vocals, the production, the harmonies, they were so perfectly executed. Maybe that song is lying around somewhere, unless he wiped it!”
The ‘Karma Chameleon’ hitmaker – who previously revealed that the pair didn’t become friends because of musical competition early on in their respective careers – also discussed George’s new previously unreleased track ‘Fantasy’.
Boy George is adamant he wasn’t taking a potshot at Michael -who passed away on Christmas Day last year (25.12.16) aged 53 – when he criticised the track, he was just questioning whether the pop superstar would have wanted it to come out.
He said: “My point was would have he wanted it out? Prince never wanted his songs on YouTube or Spotify now they’re all over both of them. I think that’s a good thing.
“I always used to go on YouTube looking for Prince songs and they weren’t on there. The point I made was it’s amazing George is being celebrated. I quite liked seeing ‘Wham Rap’ in that new H&M commercial, it made me smile, but I did think what would he say if he was around? But I’m an artist. Rather than criticising, I’m asking how he would feel? I think that’s a very valuable question. Why do people think I was slamming him? I was a massive fan. That’s why I wonder what he’d think.”

Selena Gomez has two albums’ worth of new music

OHMYGOSSIP — Selena Gomez has two albums’ worth of music she’s ready to release.
The chart-topping singer has just unveiled her track ‘Wolves’ and Selena has promised her legion of fans that she’s still got plenty more material in the pipeline.
She shared: “I’m ready. I want to get back in and re-focus on all of my music.
“To be honest, I feel like I have two albums already completed, but I’m wanting to figure it out.”
Selena, 25, said she’s ahead of her own schedule in regards to her new music.
And while the brunette beauty doesn’t wish to rush into releasing new material before she’s ready, she’s also pledged that her fans won’t have to wait too long, either.
Selena told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe: “It’s a lot sooner than I think people anticipate. I want to call the shots, I want it to be good, I want to be ready, I don’t want to do anything that’s forced. It will be soon.”
During the interview, Selena also explained that her musical focus has shifted over recent months.
The American singer – who underwent a kidney transplant for her lupus earlier this year – said her new material is more “meaningful”.
She explained: “I wanted my music to be a lot more meaningful, to be honest … I just wanted to take my time.
“I didn’t want it to be crowded by over-glamorised things and the pop world can just be really distracting sometimes. This year, I did it at my own pace.”
