OHMYGOSSIP — Kylie Minogue never thought she’d get to perform at Glastonbury.
The ‘Spinning Around’ singer will take to the stage at Worthy Farm for Sunday (30.06.19) afternoon’s Legends slot, 14 years after she pulled out of her headline slot as she was having treatment for breast cancer and she admitted that she’d resigned herself to the fact she’d lost her chance to sing at the iconic event until the offer came this year.
She said: “I would have been one of the only female solo artists in the festival’s history to headline.
“I really thought I missed my ­opportunity and, as the years went by, I said to myself, ‘Well this just isn’t going to happen’.”
And when she takes to the stage in a few days time, the 51-year-old pop star is expecting it to be emotional.
She said: “I will remember what happened those years ago and my ­overriding feeling will just be of gratitude and, how fragile life can be.
“Will there be tears? Absolutely. Let’s just say I will be wearing ­waterproof mascara…
“Yes, it’s going to be emotional, but I try to remind myself… it’s a ­celebration. I’m not trying to do anything new. Me, the crowd and 31 or 32 years of history together.”
Kylie can still vividly remember watching the 2005 festival on TV back at home in Australia with her parents.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “My memory’s so strong of so much around that time and while my focus had moved on from Glastonbury, I was watching and going, ‘I’m meant to be there’.
“It would have been pretty mega at the time to headline – the next woman to do it was Beyonce.”
The ‘I Should Be So Lucky’ hitmaker thinks she’s more “ready” now than ever before for Glastonbury.
She said: “Perhaps I wasn’t ready anyway [in 2005]. I feel I’ve grown so much and have a lot more to offer.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Beverley Knight says it was “easier” for record labels to “market” someone with “European features” when she started her music career.
The 46-year-old singer has opened up about the racism she experienced when she first entered the music industry in 1994, and the star revealed that she felt “insecure” and like a “square peg in a round hole” because of the way she looked.
She said: “It was easier to market someone who was much lighter, with more ‘European’ features. [I felt like] a square peg in a round hole.
“I’ve always been an optimistic, happy, and driven person, and I was very secure about myself in my music.
“But I was a boffin. And I was insecure about how I looked.
“I felt I had all the things that were needed – strong music and vocals – except what a star was meant to look like.
“Then I started to put on weight in my mid-20s, which made me feel sluggish. I just felt terrible about my appearance.”
The ‘Greatest Day’ hitmaker insisted that she is finally feeling confident about her looks and admitted that since hitting age 40, she earns a “natural respect” from people.
She told HELLO! magazine: “It took years and years, but now, in my later 40s, I’m secure. If people try to tell you what you should be doing, at this age, you can slap them down very quickly. There’s a respect that’s naturally afforded to you.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Pavarotti’s rare duets with Sting, Bono and James Brown are set to be released for the first time.
Decca Records are releasing six live performances by the late great Italian operatic tenor – whose full name was Luciano Pavarotti – with some of world’s biggest rock and soul stars.
The special release is to accompany Ron Howard’s film about the star – who died in 2007 of pancreatic cancer at the age of 71 – which features never-before-seen footage, concert performances and intimate interviews.
The songs are from the ‘Pavarotti And Friends’ charity concerts, which took place in Modena, Italy – the ‘Nessun Dorma’ hitmaker’s hometown – between 1992 and 2003 to benefit War Child and more.
It was there Pavarotti teamed up with U2 frontman Bono for a performance of Schubert’s ‘Ave Maria’.
Late soul legend Brown’s rendition of ‘It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World’ with the tenor and ‘When We Dance’ with former Police star Sting have also been made available.
The latest additions come after the release of ‘Too Much Love Will Kill You’ with Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor, ‘You’re The First, My Last, My Everything’ with Barry White and ‘Perfect Day’ with Lou Reed.
Plus there is a rarity in the form of ‘Miserere’, which Pavarotti co-wrote with Italian rocker Zucchero and Bono, which was a duet with Pavarotti and his peer, Andrea Bocelli.
Rebecca Allen, president of Decca Records, said: “These duets are a wonderful reminder of Pavarotti’s humanitarian side.
“He used his fame and art to help benefit people, and was able to bring the most brilliant and like-minded singers together for a good cause.
“This is a central theme to the powerful Ron Howard film, and perhaps one that is forgotten – as his voice was so big and his operatic performances legendary – so it is fitting to share these hidden gems with the world at last.”
The Bono and Bocelli tracks will feature on the documentary’s soundtrack ‘Music From The Motion Picture: Pavarotti’.
The rest off the duets will be available on ‘Pavarotti: The Greatest Hits’, comprised of three discs.

OHMYGOSSIP — Serge Pizzorno feels like he’s “on holiday all the time” when he’s working on new music in the studio.
The Kasabian guitarist ends up spending his downtime in the studio working on new material when the group take time off and he’s realised that’s because he doesn’t feel like he needs a proper break because he loves his job so much.
He said: “I’ve gotten to the bottom of that. It’s because I think I’m on holiday all the time.
“What I love doing happens to be the job that I do.”
And with the ‘Empire’ hitmakers currently on an extended break, Serge felt the time was right to work on his first solo album.
He added to Q magazine: “This just felt like the time to do it.
“After six albums you need to reset everything, get out of the cycle and have something else to think about. Get out of your normal routine and just go, ‘Boof’.”
The 38-year-old musician enjoyed the fact he’s had no pressure to match the group’s success or meet fan expectations with his solo record, ‘The S.L.P.’.
He said: “We’ve been lucky that the fans have followed us when we’ve made sidesteps and twists and turns.
“We’ve been able to explore and experiment but there is definitely that thing in your mind of headlining Reading and Leeds, headlining Glasto, playing these huge gigs and having the big single – which I love – but it was nice to be able to not think about that and to go in thinking it could be absolutely anything I want, a total blank.”
But Serge was “surprised” by how “melodic” the tracks he’s written for the record have turned out to be.
He said: “What surprised me most in the end was that I thought the record was going to be more ragged and out-there, but it fell into this very direct bunch of tunes.
“It’s way more melodic than I was expecting it to be.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Mika is relaunching his music career under his real name, Michael Holbrook.
The ‘Grace Kelly’ hitmaker – who had a string of hits in the early 00s’ – will return with brand new album ‘My Name Is Michael Holbrook’ on October 4, his first record in four years, and he has admitted it took him two years to figure out where he wanted to take his music career next.
He told the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column: “It’s almost like I’m starting again, turning over a new page.
“I’m called Mika but also Michael Holbrook. That’s my father’s name and I’m actually Michael Holbrook junior, the third.
“It’s an old American family with a lot of tradition but also a lot of secrets I didn’t really know about.”
The record has been inspired by the ‘We Are Golden’ hitmaker’s time spent in the US and started off with the track ‘Tiny Love’.
He said: “It’s my fifth album so I wanted a new point of view.
“It took me two years to figure out what I was going to do.
“So I went on a road trip to the States and when I got back I wrote a song called ‘Tiny Love’.
It opens with the phrase: ‘My name is Michael Holbrook and I was born in 1983’.”
Michael’s new tunes are about family and his mum and sisters will appear on the album, which sees him open up about things he’s never discussed publicly before, and he compared it to the “bold colours” of his debut LP ‘Life in Cartoon Motion’, released back in 2007.
He teased: “It’s not sombre or dark or sad, it’s the opposite. It’s a different side of me.
“I sing a lot about stuff that’s happened in my life that I haven’t spoken about before.
“About my brother and sisters and my mum.
“There’s even an appearance by my mum and sister on the record.
“It’s personal but with an enormous amount of joy that will make you dance and cry. It’s full of bold colours, like the colours of my first album and the melodies too.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Christina Aguilera felt “all types of emotional” as she marked the 20th anniversary of ‘Genie in a Bottle’.
The 38-year-old pop star asked her six million followers to share their own memories of the hit track from her 1999 self-titled album as she thanked her fans for “riding with me all these years” on Saturday (22.06.19).
Alongside the artwork for her debut album, on which ‘Genie in a Bottle’ was the lead single, she wrote on Instagram: “Hi lovies! Today marks 20 years since #GenieInABottle was released… got me feeling all types of emotional!
“At just 18 years old, I remember coming home from Japan and seeing that it had reached #1 on the Billboard charts and feeling so grateful and happy that you guys loved it as much as I did. Thank you thank you thank you for riding with me all these years. My fighters, I love you! #xxtina.”
The ‘Beautiful’ hitmaker also relayed some interesting facts about the recording of the song, including that it was made in a tiny home studio and that she shot the scene on a beach in Malibu, in which she rocks a crop top and shorts, in “freezing” weather.
Just before the hit single turned two decades old, Christina admitted she would “feel good” if her children wanted to follow in her footsteps.
The ‘Fighter’ hitmaker – who began performing in talent shows as a child and landed a role on ‘The All-New Mickey Mouse Club’ when she was 13 – would “support” Max, 11, and Summer, four, if they asked to become singers and is confident she has the knowledge to help guide them to stardom.
She said: “I would support that. I can’t fault them for something I wanted to do as a kid.
“At least they’re getting their childhood and I’m providing them a safe space. I’d feel good about it because I know all the ins and outs – be careful, use your instincts – growing up in this since I was seven years old.”
But the 38-year-old pop star warned the key to “surviving” in the music industry is to learn to ignore other people’s opinions.
She added: “You have a lot of older men and people, opinions, being thrown at you, pushed at you.
“You’re pushed and pulled until finally I was able to take my mask off and say, ‘No, this is how I need to do this for myself if I have a chance of surviving.’ ”
Christina – who has Max with ex-husband Jordan Bratman and Summer with fiance Matthew Rutler – also advised her younger self to stay true to who she is and be “grateful” for the opportunities that come her way.
Asked what she would tell her younger self, she said: “Just keep doing your thing.
“Congratulations, be excited and grateful for getting your foot in the door, but remember who you are and what you want to say.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Westlife are reportedly in talks with Queen to collaborate on a “special project”.
The Irish boyband – comprised of Mark Feehily, Shane Filan, Nicky Byrne and Kian Egan – have wowed their fans with a medley tribute to the legendary rock group on their recent ‘Twenty Tour’ to mark 20 years of the band, with Mark proving he could give Adam Lambert, who has been performing frontman duties in the group since 2011, after the Queen + Paul Rodgers incarnation ended after five years in 2009, a run for his money.
Now it has been claimed the ‘Uptown Girl’ group – who have teamed up with Ed Sheeran on their comeback LP ‘Spectrum’ – are working on a secret collaboration with Brian May and co, which could see the light of day this festive season.
A source told The Daily Star Sunday: “The Westlife lads are huge fans of Queen.
“They’ve been performing a medley of their biggest hits on their current arena tour.
“There are discussions and it’s hoped something will happen in time for Christmas.
“They are keen to make it work.”
And that’s not all, the band are also said to be trying to get Emeli Sande and Ellie Goulding and a number of people on board fo duets.
The insider added: “Conversations with a number of people are taking place.”
A source previously revealed the group’s late frontman Freddie Mercury – who died in 1991 from bronchial pneumonia resulting from AIDS at the age of 45 – is a “huge hero” of Mark.
They said: “The band are huge fans of Queen and pay tribute to them every night on your with an amazing Queen medley. Freddie Mercury is an icon and huge hero of Mark’s in particular. ‘There is big talk about collaborations with lots of people, just like they’re collaborating right now with Ed Sheeran, they’d absolutely love to make something happen if it was possible.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Cardi B and the late Nipsey Hussle were the big winners at the BET Awards.
The 26-year-old star made history as she became the first female rapper to win Album of the Year for her triple platinum record ‘Invasion Of Privacy’ at the ceremony, which was held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California, and she also took home the Female Rapper of the Year gong.
Cardi – who went into the ceremony as the most-nominated act with seven nods – opened Sunday’s (23.06.19) show with new single ‘Press’, during which she gave her husband Offset a lapdance.
Accepting her Album of the Year prize, she told the audience: “Thank you so much everybody. As a female artist, I always feel like, ‘Damn, sometimes I feel like I’m not doing too much, and sometimes I feel like I’m doing too much.’
“You’re never motherf***ing perfect for these people.
“But the numbers don’t lie. Three times platinum.
“I want to thank everybody who participated on the album – Kehlani, Chance the Rapper, YG, Bad Bunny, J Balvin and all the producers, thank you very much.
“I’m glad I made an album that your sister, your mother, your grandmother like it.”
The BET Awards laid out a blue carpet in tribute to Nipsey – who was known for wearing blue outfits on stage – after he was shot in March dead aged 33.
He was posthumously given the Humanitarian award and also won Best Male Hip Hop Artist.
The late star’s girlfriend Lauren London took to the stage to accept the gongs.
She said: “Thank you guys for all the love and support.”
And in a nod to his Marathon Clothing store he was shot in front of, she added: “The Marathon continues again.”
Rihanna presented Mary J. Blige with the Lifetime Achievement Award, and the ‘Umbrella’ hitmaker thanked the legendary singer/songwriter for inspiring women to “be comfortable being ourselves”.
She said: “Mary J. Blige, you have set the bar for relatable, timeless, classic music. You opened multiple doors for female artists in this industry.
“On behalf of all the women who came after you like myself, thank you for being you so we can be comfortable being ourselves.”
On the stage accepting her accolade, Mary said to Rihanna: “You inspire me right back, so thank you.”
Mary also performed on the night, as did Lizzo, and Lil Nas X.
Beyonce and Bruno Mars were awarded Best Female R&B/ Pop Artist and Best Male R&B/ Pop Artist accolades respectively, and Migos won Best Group.
Snoop Dogg won the Best Gospel/ Inspirational Award for his song ‘Blessing Me Again’ with Rance Allen, and Childish Gambino scooped the Video of the Year prize for ‘This is America’.

OHMYGOSSIP — Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga could be set to perform at Glastonbury.
TV presenter Edith Bowman has dropped a huge hint that the ‘A Star is Born’ co-stars may be one of the surprise acts at the music festival, after Bradley told her he has held talks with organiser Emily Eavis and her music manager husband Nick Dewey.
Speaking on TV show ‘Sunday Brunch’, she said: “I may know one [surprise act], I can’t possibly say.
“On my podcast I had Bradley Cooper talking about ‘A Star is Born’, and when I spoke to him I was like, ‘I just want to see you guys do a gig, you know play it live.’
“He was like, ‘Well we have been talking to Nick and Emily Eavis about it, we’d do the Park Stage,’ and I said that would be amazing. Bradley Cooper and Gaga doing the Park Stage.”
Glastonbury gets underway on Wednesday (26.06.19) following a one-year break, and there are still two special slots yet to be filled.
At the time of writing, the Park Stage has a vacancy at 11.30am to 12.10pm on Saturday (29.06.19), and 6.15pm to 7.15pm on the same day.
In the 2018 movie, Bradley’s alter-ego Jackson Maine performs on the famous Pyramid Stage at the Worthy Farm site in Somerset, south west England.
The movie also caused controversy when speculation emerged that Bradley and then-girlfriend Irina Shayk’s relationship may have been on the rocks when he appeared alongside Gaga in the film.
A source said of the co-stars: “They are both very hard-working, driven people and during the making of the film, had a very professional work relationship. From the moment they began collaborating with each other, people on the set saw how connected they were. There is endless chemistry between them.
“When they’re together, they complete each other sentences. They are creatively so in tune with one another and seem to have a total intuition with one another.”
But Bradley and Irina insisted they were in a happy and “secure” relationship.
An insider said at the time: “He is an honest guy and who is in a relationship and everyone has gotten very carried away with the gossip.
“Irina is with him a lot. She comes out all the time and they are really sweet together. Bradley is caring and conscious of her feelings. He doesn’t want Irina to feel uncomfortable and she seems totally secure with their relationship.”
Earlier this month, it was reported he and Irina had split after four years together.

OHMYGOSSIP — Will.i.am didn’t want to get “preachy” on the Black Eye Peas’ new single.
The ‘Be Nice’ band teamed up with Snoop Dogg on the fresh track which encourages people to be kinder, and the 44-year-old star has revealed while he wanted to deliver a statement, he didn’t want it to be overbearing.
He told the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column: “I wanted to write a song that is not preachy but an anthem about self-improvement. It’s asking people to be nice, and I want to be nice.
“I don’t want to be nasty. I don’t want any negative energy and people need to see when they give positive they receive it.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Where Is The Love?’ rapper tackles issues surrounding mental health struggles and encourages everyone to come together on the track, and he has said working on the song helped him overcome his own battle.
He previously explained: “Music helped me. I was on a dip, on the lower part of the roller-coaster.
“And the lyric was: ‘I just want to be happy, I don’t want to throw nasty. I’m just trying to change my vibration around so I can feel fantastic. I’m looking at myself in the mirror, I’m telling myself to cheer up.’ It made me realise I don’t want negativity. I just want positivity.”
Will has suffered with depression and anxiety over the years, and has said making music is the one thing that stopped him from “panicking”, and brought him out of that “tough time”.
He added at the time: “For me, when I was really going through the thick of it, that was my medicine. That was a tough time for me. I was really in a dark place. I would panic. I don’t even like talking about it because I will panic again. It was deep.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Shawn Mendes was bullied for being a hopeful musician as a teenager.
The ‘Stitches’ hitmaker has opened up about his high school days in an emotional social media post when he admitted taking his first steps into singing was difficult because of the reactions from other kids.
Shawn, now 20, wrote on Instagram: “I’m thinking about being in 9th grade right now. The day after I posted one of my first covers onto YouTube back in 2014.. at school walking down the hall straight into a group of older guys yelling out ‘sing for me Shawn sing for me!’
“In a way that made me feel absolutely horrible… made me feel like a joke, like what I was doing was just stupid & wrong.
“I was lucky though, I had the best friends & the best parents anyone could ask for… no matter what they would never let me stop doing what I LOVED to do just because someone ELSE thought it was stupid.
“It’s not joke to me. To make someone feel bad about doing what they love… every single person deserves to do what makes them feel alive. (sic)”
He added that he decided to open up to help inspire other teenagers – and older people – who need to realise how important it is to “follow their heart”.
He continued: “I’m writing this not only to the 15 year old kid who’s scared to follow their heart because of what people might say but also to the 50 year old who may be doing the exact same thing.
“I know it’s not just that easy & I’m not asking you to change your world over night, BUT I want you to know that no matter how old you are, no matter who you are, no matter where you’re from… you deserve to follow your heart. I’m here & I’m rooting for you.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jack White insists it would be bad for morale if he played his other material during Raconteurs shows.
The 43-year-old singer knows some of his old songs, such as White Stripes’ ‘Seven Nation Army’ would go down really well with fans and though he thinks it would “work” within the set, he doesn’t feel it would be fair on bandmates Brendan Benson, Patrick Keeler and ‘Little Jack’ Lawrence, to perform them.
He said: “We could do ‘Seven Nation Army’ and it would work.
“It’s a crowd pleaser, but not good for the morale of the band. I can play anything I want in my solo shows.”
The group are releasing ‘Help Us Stranger’, their first album in 11 years and Jack – who has released three solo albums and two with the Dead Weather, as well as producing other artists since the Raconteurs’ last offering – admitted their reunion came about after he struggled to find a place for a song named ‘Shine A Light On Me’ on his most recent solo album ‘Boarding House Reach’.
He told The Sun newspaper: “I did a session in New York and a session in LA but it just didn’t fit.
“That was such a strange record and it seemed like too beautiful a song.
“Then I listened to it a couple of times and it hit me. ‘It really sounds like a Raconteurs song!’ So I played it to Brendan in my car.”
Brendan added: “And that put the bug in my ear. So I started putting aside songs that would be good for The Raconteurs.”
While fans have waited over a decade for ‘Help Us Stranger’, they may not have to wait as long for a follow-up.
Brendan said: “There’s no shortage of ideas.”
Jack added: “We didn’t even finish half the songs we started. There’s a lot of stuff on tape and that’s a really great problem to have…
“I never plan things ahead of time, so it’s hard to say for sure.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello have released steamy new Latin single ‘Señorita’.
The pair teased fans earlier this week with two 21-second teaser clips of the promo on Instagram on Tuesday (18.06.19), which showed the pair playing lovers as they look like they are just about to share a kiss in the preview.
Although they don’t get as far as locking lips in the actual video, the ‘Havana’ hitmaker and Canadian hunk recreated intimate scenes seen from the rom-com movie ‘Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights’, including sexy dancing in a club and a topless Shawn placing Camila on the floor as he heads in for a kiss.
The short film ends as diner girl Camila returns to work and is left waiting for Shawn to arrive, but instead rides his motorbike to a lake to reflect, whilst Camila is seen getting up from a bench to head back inside to finish her shift.
The video was directed by Dave Meyers – who has worked on promos for pop stars including Pink, Jennifer Lopez, Justin Bieber and Rihanna in the past – and the song was co-written by the likes of Andrew Watt, Benny Blanco, Ali Tamposi, Charli XCX, Jack Patterson and Cashmere Cat.
The collaboration follows the pair’s 2015 track ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ from Shawn’s LP ‘Handwritten’, and has been rumoured for months after they were spotted together.
The pop duo previously denied rumours they are dating.
Camila is now in a relationship with British dating guru Matthew Hussey.
Gushing about Camila previously, Shawn – who is currently believed to be single – said: “I don’t think you’ll ever meet somebody who can feel emotion like her.
“She can feel hurt like no other, but she can feel love like no other.”
Camila recently teamed up with Mark Ronson on ‘Find U Again’ from his LP ‘Late Night Feelings’ and both her and Shawn are working on new records.
The former Fifth Harmony member, 22, is busy at work on her follow-up to her 2018 self-titled debut solo effort, whilst prolific writer Shawn, 20, is working on new music for his fourth studio effort, which is poised to be released later this year and follows last year’s eponymous LP.
‘Señorita’ is out now on all major streaming services.

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Fox is eyeing a heavy rock covers album with Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash.
The 53-year-old former glamour model and self-professed “frustrated rock star” has revealed her plans to get the ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ hitmaker involved in her passion project and she wants to include a tribute to her late friend and Motörhead frontman Lemmy – who died at the age of 70 in December 2015 – on the record, as well as her own interpretations of Iron Maiden and Def Leppard songs.
She told the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired Column: “I want to record a rock covers album with songs by Motörhead, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard and I want to record it with Slash.
“I want to do it because I’ve always been, in a way, a frustrated rock star.
“I covered ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’ by The Stones.
“That was a very pop version but when I sing it live I make it a rock version.”
Sam – a former Page Three girl and Playboy cover star – had a worldwide hit with ‘Touch Me (I Want Your Body)’ in 1986, and in 2016 she re-released the song after the chart-topper saw a surge in downloads following her appearance on ‘Celebrity Big Brother’.
The buxom blonde hasn’t released an album since 2005’s ‘Angel with an Attitude’ but she previously teased her plans to record a new LP after her stint on the Channel 4 reality show.
So far, Sam has released one single, 2018’s ‘Hot Boy’.
Sam said at the time that she hoped her stint on the programme would raise her profile as a musician and open her up to a “new generation” of fans.
On why she appeared on the programme, she said: “By doing this show I thought that I would get more work in the country I love.
“I went in there because it was a very high profile show … and I wanted to gain a new generation of fans.”
However, Sam – who graced the cover of Playboy magazine in 1996 – admitted she gave up her modelling career in the ’80s and has no plans to revisit that career path, unless she was able to feature in Playboy magazine again.
She explained: “A lot of people remember me in this country as being a Page Three girl, and I did give that up in ’86, so it was a long time ago.
“I wouldn’t do Page Three again, but I would do Playboy at 50. In a very classy way of course. I have no problems with that at all.”

OHMYGOSSIP — David Gilmour’s guitars have sold for a record-breaking $21.5 million.
The Pink Floyd legend’s The David Gilmour Guitar Collection, made auction history as the largest sale of the musical instrument took place at Christie’s at the Rockefeller Center in New York.
Out of the 75-year-old musician’s 126 guitars, the 1969 Black Fender Stratocaster went for a record-breaking $3,975,000.
The Black Strat was used on the progressive rock group’s classic albums ‘The Wall’, ‘Wish You Were Here’ and ‘Dark Side of The Moon’, and Gilmour’s solo records, most recently 2015’s ‘Rattle That Lock’.
Prior to the sale, guitar legend Eric Clapton’s collection held the record for the biggest guitar sale in the world, making $5,072,350 in 1999 and $7,438,624 in 2004, a combined total of $12,510,974.
Elsewhere, Gilmour’s acoustic Martin D-35 was bought for $1,095,000 — a record for the C.F. Martin guitar makers.
The ‘Comfortably Numb’ hitmaker used the distinctive instrument on 1975’s ‘Wish You Were Here’ and ‘Shine on You Crazy Diamond’.
The 1954 White Fender Stratocaster #0001 from ‘Another Brick in the Wall (Parts 2 and 3)’ sold for $1,815,000, which until the Black Strat went under the hammer, had set a record for Fender Stratocaster.
And a 1955 Gibson Les Paul and rare Gretsch White Penguin 6134 made $447,000 each for the charity ClientEarth, which Gilmour chose to donate all the proceeds made at the auction to.
The environmental and political activist said: “The global climate crisis is the greatest challenge that humanity will ever face, and we are within a few years of the effects of global warming being irreversible.
“As Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old Swedish climate activist said in a speech earlier this year, ‘Either we choose to go on as a civilisation, or we don’t’.
“The choice really is that simple, and I hope that the sale of these guitars will help ClientEarth in their cause to use the law to bring about real change.
“We need a civilised world that goes on for all our grandchildren and beyond in which these guitars can be played and songs can be sung.”
ClientEarth CEO James Thornton commented: “This is a truly humbling and extraordinary gift, which goes beyond our wildest expectations.
“It’s difficult to express just how deeply grateful we are to David for choosing ClientEarth as the beneficiary of this historic auction.
“The law is one of the most powerful tools we have to tackle the world’s increasing environmental problems.
“This gift is a phenomenal boost to our work using the law to tackle climate change and protect nature.
“It will allow us to play an even greater role in addressing the climate crisis and securing a healthy planet for future generations.”
An impressive 12,000 fans were able to check out the guitars at locations in London, Los Angeles and New York before the sale and 500,000 people viewed the sought-after instruments on Christies.com.
Whilst 2,000 bidders from 66 countries registered their interest to place a bid.
The auction had to be delayed by one hour because of the number of people trying to enter the Rockefeller Center.

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Ringo Starr, The Cure, Sigrid and Neneh Cherry have designed Glastonbury badges to raise awareness for WaterAid.
The Beatles legend and long-time supporter of the non-governmental organisation – which provides clean water and sanitation to communities around the world – Robert Smith of The Cure, Norwegian pop star Sigrid and Swedish singer/songwriter Neneh have created their own designs for the pins, which will be free to festival-goers who visit one of the WaterAid’s 37 water kiosks at the Worthy Farm festival between June 26 and June 30.
The aim is to make people aware of WaterAid’s Access Denied campaign, which calls for everyone to have access to clean water and decent toilets by 2030.
Starr, whose design features the words “Peace Love and Water”, said: “I have always supported WaterAid because I believe everyone on this planet has a right to have clean water.
“They asked me to create a special badge for Glastonbury Festival and you can get it and show your support for their great work when you visit WaterAid’s water kiosks at the festival. Peace and love, Ringo.”
The Cure, who headline the Sunday night, commented: “Without water there wouldn’t be life. Everyone should have this basic human right, but millions have their access denied because of who they are or where they live.
“So if you’re going to Glastonbury Festival this summer, head down to the WaterAid water kiosks to refill your bottles while also helping make a noise about this injustice and supporting the charity’s work to change lives for good.”
‘Sucker Punch’ hitmaker Sigrid, who will perform on the Other Stage on the Saturday, said: “It is truly horrifying and crazy that people still don’t have clean water in 2019.
“Millions have to walk miles each day to collect water that’s not even clean, affecting the lives of young people in particular and limiting their future potential. WaterAid is working towards a world where everyone has access to this basic human right, and I’m proud to be supporting their Access Denied campaign at Glastonbury this summer.”
And Neneh, who this year plays the West Holts Stage on Saturday, added: “It is completely unacceptable that around the world, millions of families are living without clean water, impacting on their health, their education, their futures. 
“When I heard that WaterAid’s Access Denied campaign aims to bring everyone clean water by 2030, I knew I had to get involved to help make a difference.”
The musicians each teamed up with visual artist David Shrigley to create the badges, which feature Glastonbury Tor under a full moon, surrounded by a rainbow.
On the back of the accessories is the website link, watera.id/access, to enter a prize draw to win a pair of tickets to Glastonbury Festival 2020.
