Eminem announces new album and declares ‘The Death of Slim Shady’

OHMYGOSSIP — Eminem is set to return with the album ‘The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)’ this summer.
The 51-year-old rap icon shared the news as he appeared at the 2024 NFL Draft in his home city of Detroit, Michigan, on Thursday (25.04.24).
Shady appeared with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell as they kicked off the Annual Player Selection Meeting.
A trailer circulated of a fake reporter announcing the death of Eminem’s alter ego Slim Shady.
They said: “Through his complex and often-criticised, tongue-twisting rhymes, the blonde anti-hero known as Slim Shady has had no shortage of enemies.”
His rap peer, 50 Cent, said: “He’s not a friend, he’s a psychopath.”
The reporter continued: “The same rude lyrics and controversial antics may have ultimately led to his demise. Join me as we recreate the events that led to the murder of Slim Shady.”
Eminem shared the clip on Instagram along with the album’s title and summer 2024 release window.
Shady’s last album was 2020’s ‘Music to Be Murdered By’.
Meanwhile, Eminem has just celebrated 16 years of sobriety.
The ‘Lose Yourself’ hitmaker marked the milestone by sharing a picture showing him holding the 16-year chip he received from his support group in a post on Instagram.
Eminem – real name Marshall Mathers – chose not to caption the snap, but he was flooded with messages of congratulations from friends, fans and family including his brother Nathan ‘Nate’ Mathers, who commented: “Greatest influence and mentor.”
Eminem’s longtime music manager Paul Rosenberg added: “Sweet 16. So proud of you.”
The ‘Not Afraid’ star – who at one time had “10 drug dealers at one time” and was taking “75 to 80 Valiums” a night – spent years struggling with addiction issues before suffering a near-fatal overdose in 2007, which prompted him to get clean during a stint in rehab.

Machine Gun Kelly has no beef with Taylor Swift

OHMYGOSSIP — Machine Gun Kelly refused to mock Taylor Swift out of fear of the pop superstar’s passionate fanbase.
The 34-year-old rapper – whose real name is Colson Baker – was asked to name three things he didn’t like about the ‘Fortnight’ singer, 34, by fellow rapper Trippie Redd, 24, and dismissed the request as he didn’t “want any smoke” with Taylor’s loyal Swifties or her NFL player boyfriend Travis Kelce, 34, who he holds in high regard.
During an appearance on ‘Hot Ones Versus’, he said: “Ladies and gentleman … you have got to be out of your mother******* mind if you think I want any smoke with that fanbase.
“Also, Taylor is a saint and very nice to me, and Travis is my bro.”
Trippie joked: “Kiss her feet while you’re at it.”
MGK continued: “Jesus Christ, I just … bro, she’s just very nice. She’s very, very nice.”
The ‘Wild Boy’ hitmaker then clarified the offer he made to the NFL star in November 2023, when MGK said he would give Travis $1 million if he signed on to play for the Cleveland Browns.
He explained: “And also, to the narrative of people who are like, ‘That’s it?’ I said I would give him $1 million spending money on top of what the NFL [pay him].
“I’m not the f****** NFL, so obviously they would have to pay him like $30 million or $40 million or whatever the f***. I said I would give him a bonus of $1 million.”
MGK’s refusal to hit out at Taylor and Travis comes as the ‘Shake it Off’ artist’s latest album, ‘The Tortured Poet Department’, saw her take aim at her previous boyfriends, The 1975’s Matty Healy, 35, and British actor Joe Alwyn, 33.
Matty broke his silence and claimed he “hasn’t listened to much” of the savage LP.
He told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “My diss track? I haven’t really listened to that much of it, but I’m sure it’s good.”

Crowded House’s Neil Finn had to ‘audition’ for Fleetwood Mac

OHMYGOSSIP — Crowded House’s Neil Finn had to audition to be Fleetwood Mac’s guitarist.
The ‘Weather with You’ hitmaker, 65, replaced Lindsey Buckingham, 74, in 2018, after the ‘Dreams’ hitmakers fired the latter, and he has revealed it’s the only time he’s had to try-out for a band.
Neil also revealed his son, Liam Finn, 40, wasn’t keen on him joining the band at first, and insisted he appreciated the audition because he could gauge if he was doing the right thing.
He told the June issue of MOJO magazine: “I was gobsmacked. I was 60 and I’d had a wonderfully diverse musical life when Mick called and said, ‘We’ve got rid of Lindsey, would you play with us?’ I’d just done Lightsleeper with Liam so he had a vested interest in my not doing it, but he said, ‘Give it a shot,’ so I auditioned.”
The journalist was flabbergasted that he had to audition, with Neil adding: “It’s the only audition I’ve ever done. I went to Hawaii and Mick spent an hour telling me it wasn’t an audition, but it was. I was auditioning them too: I wasn’t sure it was the right thing, I was quite conflicted, but I liked the people and the welcome was universal.”
Asked what he added to the iconic group, he replied: “The naysayers said, ‘No Lindsey Buckingham, no Fleetwood Mac,’ but I brought personality and the ability to sing with Stevie [frontwoman] and Christine [late keyboardist, vocalist and songwriter]. I could never be capable of sounding like Lindsey but I put a similar intensity into his songs.”
Neil has had no communication with Lindsey but insists there is no “ill-will” and he hopes they can catch up over a meal in the future.
Asked if they have spoken, he replied: “No, but I’d really like to have a dinner with him.
There’s a lot of ill-will, but I don’t think he bears any towards me and I do think he had prior appreciation of the music I’d made. Hopefully, once he got over the massive disappointment, he’d have thought, ‘At least someone with something going for them is singing my songs.'”
Fleetwood Mac “currently doesn’t exist” with the band not planning to continue without the beloved Christine – who died in 2022, aged 79, following a brief illness.
Drummer Mick Fleetwood, 76, previously admitted he cannot even contemplate stepping foot on stage again under the Fleetwood Mac name in the wake of his friend’s passing.
Speaking to the LA Times at the Grammy Awards last year, he said: “I think right now, I truly think the line in the sand has been drawn with the loss of Chris.
“I’d say we’re done, but then we’ve all said that before. It’s sort of unthinkable right now.”

David Bowie collaboration for climate change album

OHMYGOSSIP — Brian Eno is reworking his “powerful” David Bowie collaboration ‘Get Real’ for a new climate change album project.
The 75-year-old musician and songwriter first recorded the song with Bowie – who passed away in 2016 at the age of 69 – during the ‘1. Outside’ sessions in the 1990s, and his new version features recordings of hyenas and wild pigs to align with the theme of the new record.
He told the ‘Midnight Chats’ podcast: “Well, I’ve got a number of recordings of different animals here. I wanted big, slightly menacing animals in the song. Not birds and wind and things like that. So I tried a Siberian tiger, that was a bit too overwhelming. I tried some rooks. I’ve always loved rooks, but they sounded like ducks in that context, which is not quite the same message. And the two I’ve settled on and I’m working with at the moment – I haven’t finished this piece yet – are hyenas and wild pigs.
“It’s a powerful song. Very good lyrics. And with this new kind of container that we’re putting it in of being a song about relationship with the Earth, I think it really works.”
And Brian is sure that David would approve.
He said: “The wild pigs sound really good. They’re in a kind of frequency range which is quite hard to fit into the music, but I’m working on that. So yes we’ll have David, Bri and some wild pigs!
“He would have loved it. Yeah, he’d say: ‘Sounds good to me, Bri. I think we should go ahead with that’.”

Lulu: ‘Men have come and gone, but the music goes on’

OHMYGOSSIP — Lulu doesn’t mind being single as she has her music.
The 75-year-old singer insisted that being alone doesn’t bother her anymore as she gets all the fulfilment she needs from performing for her fans.
Speaking to the audience on the final night of her tour at the London Palladium, she said: “People say to me, ‘Are you dating?’, I mean, are you having a laugh? They say, ‘You must be lonely’, but I’m not lonely in the slightest.
“Because I have this. I have you. This relationship is perfect. This is the love of my life. The men have come and the men have gone, but the music, it goes on.”
Lulu – who will perform at Glastonbury this year – also revealed she has no plans to slow down and is thinking of extending her tour due to high demand.
She told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “I love it, it energises me. I’ve always wanted to do this and I’m meant to do this.”
“I’m doing a book and I’m working on a couple of things but I’m also doing Glastonbury. And the people who arranged this tour want me to do an extension of it because of the demand.”
Lulu previously performed at Glastonbury in 2015, and revealed she was delighted with the reaction she got from the crowd.
She told HELLO! magazine: “As I went on stage at Glastonbury, the roar from the crowd was deafening.
“I was very surprised as I didn’t really know what to expect. It was just fantastic and I had so much fun.
“My younger brother Billy is a musician and he told me that all the angels were looking down on me because the sound was perfect, the lighting good and the crowd was fabulous.”

Jade Thirlwall writing with Raye for debut solo album

OHMYGOSSIP — Jade Thirlwall has enlisted Raye to help with her debut solo album.
The former Little Mix star has reportedly been meeting up with the ‘Escapism’ hitmaker to pen tracks for her long-awaited new album and is “absolutely thrilled” to have the record-breaking singer – who made history when she won six of the seven prizes she was up for at last month’s BRIT Awards – on board to help.
A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Jade really respects Raye’s work and they’ve known each other for years through the music circuit, so she is absolutely thrilled Raye has agreed to lend her songwriting skills to her debut album.
“Jade has been pouring her heart and soul into the record and wants to get it just right.”
Raye isn’t the only person Jade has been working with as Jax Jones recently revealed they hit the studio together in 2022 and he’s hopeful the “cool music” they made together will see the light of day eventually.
He told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “It’s a good song. If she wants to use it, it’s there.
“Miley Cyrus and Pharrell Williams released Doctor, which was recorded years ago, so you never really know what will happen.
“But I know I have written some cool music with Jade, and we are still cool and we vibe.”
Last year, Jade was said to have penned songs with Bastille’s Dan Smith.
The pair are believed to have formed a songwriting partnership after attending a writers retreat together, and they came up with a number of tracks which have been offered out to other artists.
A source told The Sun at the time: “Jade and Dan have met each other a few times over the years when they’ve been at the same events.
“But they weren’t really mates until they ended up on this retreat together with a load of other songwriters and they teamed up to come up with ideas.
“They hit it off and produced some strong tracks. Some of them have already been offered to other artists, so it’s only a matter of time before they get snapped up.”

Post Malone ‘beyond honoured’ to work with Taylor Swift

OHMYGOSSIP — Post Malone is “beyond honoured” to have collaborated with Taylor Swift.
The 28-year-old singer has teamed up with the pop superstar on ‘Fortnight’, the lead single from her new album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, and the ‘Sunflower’ hitmaker hailed his new friend as a “once in a lifetime” talent, who left him “floored”.
Sharing a photo of them together on Instagram, he gushed: “It’s once in a lifetime that someone like @taylorswift comes into this world.
“I am floored by your heart and your mind, and I am beyond honored to have been asked to help you with your journey. I love you so much. Thank you Tay.”
Taylor’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, liked the post.
When the ‘Karma’ hitmaker announced details of the single last week, she admitted she was a “huge fan” of her collaborator, whose real name is Austin Post.
She wrote on Instagram: “I’ve been such a huge fan of Post because of the writer he is, his musical experimentation and those melodies he creates that just stick in your head forever.
“I got to witness that magic come to life first-hand when we worked together on ‘Fortnight’.”
Meanwhile, Jack Antonoff – who co-produced ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ with The National’s Aaron Dessner and Taylor herself – recently admitted he’d been left “overwhelmed” by the reaction to the record, just hours after its release.
On X, he posted: “[I] love this album more than I can say …. love you all very much … more later very overwhelmed … love you Taylor [sic].”
In two separate posts, Jack – who is credited as a co-writer on several songs – appeared to highlight two of his favourite tracks on the album, writing “!! FOTS heads lets go !!”, seemingly referencing the song ‘Fresh Out The Slammer’, as well as stating “Down bad heads as well”, referring to the track ‘Down Bad’.

Shaznay Lewis had to walk away from the ‘confines’ of All Saints to make solo album

OHMYGOSSIP — Shaznay Lewis insists she couldn’t continue her solo career within the “confines” of All Saints.
The 48-year-old singer – who is set to play Glastonbury this June – shot to stardom as a member of the girl band – which also featured Natalie Appleton, Nicole Appleton, Melanie Blatt, and
Simone Rainford -back in 1997 and they enjoyed chart success throughout the late 1990s and 2000s, but they have been quiet since a string of festival shows in 2021.
Shaznay is set to release her long-awaited second solo album, ‘Pages’, on May 17, the follow-up to 2004’s ‘Open’, and she has admitted it’s “quite limiting” penning songs for a girl group, so she needed to take “another road”.
Asked in an interview for the June issue of Classic Pop magazine if the ‘Never Ever’ hitmakers are on hiatus, she replied: “I’ve done the band thing for so long and a huge part of this journey has to do with writing. And when I say that, I mean I’ve been writing for 25 years for a band with that kind of hat on and being in that mindset. It’s a very specific thing. Some of that specific thing is quite limiting because when you’re writing for a girlband or boyband, it’s a certain formula and a certain way of doing things.
“I just got to a point in my life and my career as a songwriter, where I just wanted to have different experiences. I wanted to be able to write for film or a TV series, or a musical or whatever.
I know that being within the confines of a band, it just wouldn’t allow my mind to go there. I had to remove myself from the situation so that I could allow myself to have these other experiences and be daring enough to have them. So it’s not about hitting pause [on the band], it’s simply just about taking another road.”
The album features the singles, ‘Miracle’, her first solo single in 20 years, ‘Kiss of Life’, and ‘Good Mourning’ featuring Shola Ama and General Levy.
Self Esteem also appears on the track ‘Pick You Up’.

Kid Cudi cuts Coachella set short after appearing to twist ankle in stage fall

OHMYGOSSIP — Kid Cudi’s Coachella set ended abruptly after he seemingly twisted his ankle onstage.
The 40-year-old star was having the time of his life entertaining the masses who filled out the Sahara tent at the California festival in Indio on Sunday (21.04.24) – when things took an unexpected turn for the worse.
Cudi, who was a last-minute addition to the bill, was performing ‘Memories’ when he tried to jump down from the stage, and it appeared he badly twisted his ankle, leaving him wincing.
In a clip shared online from the accident, two security staff swiftly helped the star to safety.
The artist didn’t address the crowd as he left whilst his track ‘Pursuit of Happiness’ played.
The tumble occurred towards the end of the set and his performance was going down a treat.
It was Cudi’s first time performing at Coachella since 2019.
The rapper-and-singer’s Coachella set came a week after he confirmed his engagement to Lola Abecassis Sartore.
The music star shared a sweet post days after the loved-up couple attended the ‘Knuckles’ premiere in London on April 15.
Alongside photos of them at the event, he wrote on Instagram: “My [fiancée] Lola and me at the Knuckles premiere.
“This amazing woman makes me so happy, she is everything to me and im so excited to share this news w u all.
“Life is wild, and right when I felt my future was uncertain, it became crystal clear with Lola. Happy Cud in full effect. (sic)”
Menswear designer Lola shared the news with her own followers as she posted a heartfelt message for the star – whose real name is Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi.
She said: “I never thought I could love someone this much! So proud to call you my fiancé Scott.”
In her Instagram Story, she added: “The smiles on our faces says it all! Love you to the moon and back. Love u more my angel baby. (sic)”

Taylor Swift breaks Spotify record with 300 million streams

OHMYGOSSIP — Taylor Swift’s new album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ broke a Spotify record after racking up more than 300 million streams on Friday (19.04.24).
The pop superstar’s 11th studio record became the platform’s most streamed album in a single day after bringing in huge numbers in its first 24 hours and she now holds Spotify’s top three most streamed debuts with her 2022 album ‘Midnights’ in second and her rerecorded ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ in third.
A statement from Spotify posted on X – formerly known as Twitter – declared: “History made! On April 19, 2024, Taylor Swift’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ was the first album in Spotify history to have over 300M streams in a single day.”
She also broke the platform’s record for the most-streamed song in one day with the album’s lead single ‘Fortnight’ which features Post Malone. The song broke the record previously set by Adele’s ‘Easy on Me’ back in 2021.
Swift was also the most streamed artist in a single day in Spotify history on Friday (19.04.24) after previously managing the same feat in October when she released ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’.
‘The Tortured Poets Department’ was released at midnight on Friday (19.04.24) and just hours later, the singer dropped a bombshell by announcing she was adding a second instalment of 15 extra songs to make it an “Anthology”.
In a post on social media, Swift wrote: “It’s a 2am surprise: ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ is a secret DOUBLE album. “I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here’s the second installment of ‘TTPD: The Anthology’. 15 extra songs. And now the story isn’t mine anymore … it’s all yours.”
The extra release means the album now clocks in at 31 songs including ‘The Manuscript’, ‘The Bolter’, The Albatross’ and ‘The Black Dog’ which were the bonus tracks included on vinyl versions of the record.
Swift went on to explain the double album reflects a period of her life that’s “now over” and she insisted she has “no scores to settle once wounds have healed” – with many speculating many of the songs explore her doomed relationship with actor Joe Alwyn and her brief romance with Matty Healy.
In a post on Instagram, she wrote: “‘The Tortured Poets Department’. An anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time – one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure. “This period of the author’s life is now over, the chapter closed and boarded up.
“There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once wounds have healed. And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted.
“This writer is of the firm belief that our tears become holy in the form of ink on a page. Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it. And then all that’s left behind is the tortured poetry.”

‘For some members of our family, it’s kind of screwed their lives up a bit…’ Paul McCartney’s cousin reveals what life is like as his relative

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Paul McCartney’s fame and success has “screwed up” the lives of some members of his family, his relative Ted Robbins has revealed.
The 68-year-old British comedian is related to Paul, 81, via his late mother who was The Beatles bassist’s first cousin.
Ted insists Paul has always been close with his family and attends parties and reunions, but ‘The League of Gentlemen’ star has claimed that his music legend status has left some family members feeling inadequate, including his younger brother Mike – who formed his own bands the Scaffold and Grimms and performed under the name Mike McGear.
Appearing on the Chatabix podcast, Ted said: “Paul and my mum are first cousins. You know, when people do that, who’s the most famous person on your phone? Well, that’s Paul McCartney.
“Uncle Jim, who is Paul’s dad, well, my great uncle, Uncle Joe, my mum and dad, Auntie Gin, who was Paul’s auntie, helped bring him up.
“You know the song, ‘Someone’s Knockin at the Door… Auntie Gin.’ Well, Auntie Gin, when Paul’s and Mike’s mum Mary died in 1956, they kind of, with my mum, all the cousins and all the uncles and aunties used to look after Paul and Mike because they were 14 and 13 and they grew up. I grew up, you know, listening and the aunties say, listen, ‘Cousin Paul’s on the radio,’ you know, and yeah, yeah, it’s a strange thing because, people say everyone in Liverpool, my auntie used to scrub Ringo Starr’s steps and all that.
“In some ways it’s a great thing, but for some members of our family, it’s kind of screwed their lives up a bit. Because if you compare, you know what I mean? Paul McCartney and all that. You become a dentist, great, you know.
“I think Mike, his brother, who’s the loveliest of men and talented, but his fear is on his gravestone, ‘Here lies Paul McCartney’s brother.’ He is lovely Mike.
“I see more of Mike, but I see Paul occasionally and he rings me up, ‘How you doing son?’”
Ted’s famous family also includes his comedian sister Kate Robbins and TV star niece Emily Atack.
The comic also revealed that Paul penned the song ‘Teddy Boy’ – which features on his debut solo album ‘McCartney’ released in 1970 – about him.
He said: “You know he wrote a song called ‘Teddy Boy’, which is on his first (solo) album called ‘McCartney’. And, you know, it goes, ‘this is the story of a boy named Ted’ and it was sort of inspired [by me].”

10cc’s Graham Gouldman collaborates with Queen’s Brian May and Beatles legend Ringo Starr on new solo album

OHMYGOSSIP — 10cc singer Graham Gouldman has announced a new solo album that includes collaborations with Sir Brian May, Hank Marvin, Albert Lee and Sir Ringo Starr.
The 77-year-old musician will release his sixth solo LP ‘I Have Notes’, via British independent record label Lojinx, on July 5.
As well as the four legends legends, Graham is also joined on the record by Nashville-based singer/songwriter Beth Nielsen Chapman, who has previously worked with the likes of Bette Midler, Trisha Yearwood and Neil Diamond.
The two artists co-wrote ‘We’re Alive’, the first single from the record, which also features guitarist Gordon Kennedy – who has played with Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton and Garth Brooks.
Discussing the track, Graham said: “I wrote this song in Nashville last year with Beth Nielsen Chapman and Gordon Kennedy. Both of whom I’ve worked with before. I just started playing this opening riff, there’s some nodding going on, it sounded quite exuberant and so the theme had to be something life affirming. Beth came up with the ‘We’re Alive’ title, and then we finished off the song really quickly together. There are certain references, which I love, that are kind of interesting. ‘Pull back the sofa, wind up the gramophone’. You know who’s got a gramophone? Nobody! It’s always a real joy to work with Beth and Gordon and I think it shows in the song because it’s full of life.”
Queen guitarist May, 76, joins Graham on literal space-ballad ‘Floating In Heaven’, while the Shadows star Hank, 82, features on endearing romantic waltz of ‘When You Find Love’.
Beatles drummer Ringo, 83, adds his talent to ‘Couldn’t Love You More’ which is inspired by The Fab Four.
Legendary sideman Lee, 80, plays guitar on country track ‘Say You Love Me Tonight’ and the LP closes with a rocking live performance of ‘Heart Full Of Soul’, featuring an all-star band comprised of May and Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal on guitar, Derek Sherinian on keyboards, Ric Fierabracci on bass and Simon Phillips on drums.
Having worked with the late Storm Thorgerson, of Hypnosis, for many 10cc covers over the years, Gouldman has continued the collaboration through Peter Curzon at StormStudios for the ‘I Have Notes’ cover.
Discussing the album artwork, Graham said: “The cover art works beautifully, I think. You may understand it, you may not. But you know something interesting is happening.”
Graham’s work with 10cc continues to endure in the build up to next year’s 50th anniversary of the band’s iconic album ‘The Original Soundtrack’, having recently completed a UK wide tour, which included a sold out Royal Albert Hall show, 10cc have also announced a further Autumn UK tour; and announced their first major US tour in over three decades.
Graham Gouldman’s new album ‘I Have Notes’ will be released on vinyl LP, CD and digital on 5 July, 2024. Visit Listen.link/i-have-notes to pre-order.
Go to Pizzaexpresslive.com/whats-on? for tickets to Graham’s ‘I Have Notes’ album launch shows that take place on 1 July and 2 July at Pizza Express Live in Holborn. The gigs will see him debut songs from ‘I Have Notes’ as well as play some greatest hits.

Green Day play iconic albums in full at intimate club show

OHMYGOSSIP — Green Day played ‘Dookie’ and ‘American Idiot’ in full at an intimate club show.
The pop punk icons are set to perform both of their seminal albums on their upcoming ‘Saviors’ world tour, and they gave fans in Los Angeles a treat during a special night at the Echoplex last week.
Kicking off a huge 35-song set, they went straight into 1994’s ‘Dookie’, starting with ‘Burnout’ and ending with hidden track ‘All By Myself’.
The likes of ‘Longview’, ‘Basket Case’ and ‘When I Come Around’ were littered throughout, before an interlude of five songs from their latest LP.
As well as the title track ‘Saviors’, the trio – made up of Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool – also played ‘The American Dream Is Killing Me’, ‘Bobby Sox’, ‘Look Ma, No Brains!’ and ‘Dilemma’.
As if that wasn’t enough, the group then launched into the entirety of their 2004 rock opera ‘American Idiot’.
‘Whatsername’ brought that section to a close, before a surprise encore of ‘Minority’ and new album closer ‘Fancy Sauce’, neither of which were written down on the setlist.
As well as celebrating their latest collection, the upcoming ‘Saviors’ stadium tour will celebrate ‘Dookie’ and American Idiot’s respective 30th and 20th anniversaries.
Earlier this month, the band performed a medley of ‘Bobby Sox’ and ‘Basket Case’ at the iHeartRadio Awards, and surprised fans by singing the orignal demo lyrics.
Billie Joe belted out: “They said this has been emotionless flight / Around each other intoxicating their minds / Dancing in the street under suburban lights / They stumbled to the ground without a hurt.”
Earlier this year, he admitted while he had the melody floating around “for a while”, he was under the influence when he wrote the original lyrics.
He told the ‘Song Exploder’ podcast: “I thought I was writing the greatest song ever… As you know, with drugs, they wear off. And then, I felt like I’d written the worst song ever…
“I thought that the lyrics were just embarrassingly bad. I had a few songs before that I’d written on drugs, but this one was the most pitiful I felt after.”

Hayley Williams ‘so ready’ to tour with Taylor Swift

OHMYGOSSIP — Hayley Williams is “so ready” to go on tour with Taylor Swift.
The 35-year-old singer’s band Paramore are set to support the ‘Karma’ singer on the European leg of her ‘Eras’ concert series, and the ‘Misery Business’ hitmaker has praised the songwriting skills her friend has shown on her long-awaited new album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’.
On Monday (22.04.24), Hayley – whose band were ambassadors for Record Store Day 2024 – shared which artists she had been listening to over the weekend, which included Taylor, Beyoncé, Brittany Howard, Rufus Wainwright, Bee Gees, Tierra Whack, Radiohead, The Smile, Blonde Redhead and Idles.
Of the ‘Anti Hero’ singer’s new album, she wrote on her Instagram Story: “Had me from the storytelling alone, my friend. Every one of us knows this kind of grief! It’s so impressive to me how specific and colorful Taylor’s words get without ever losing the universal thread.
“I’m so ready to be tour-mates.”
Hayley and Taylor first met when they were both nominated for the Best New Artist Grammy in 2008 and have been close since then.
The ‘Still Into You’ singer recently told People magazine: “Not long after we became friends, [Taylor] knew I felt awkward going to my ex’s wedding, so she tagged along with me, made it fun, and then we ditched the reception to go to the Cheesecake Factory,.
“She recently called when I was going through a rough time, just to listen and crack jokes and give me solid advice that of course sounded like perfectly formed lyrics. She’s funny and so fun.”
Meanwhile, Post Malone recently gushed he is “beyond honoured” to have worked with Taylor on her new single ‘Fortnight’.

Basement Jaxx to make UK show return

OHMYGOSSIP — Basement Jaxx are reportedly going to front a number of big shows in the UK this year.
The electronic dance duo – made up of Felix Buxton, 53, and Simon Ratcliffe, 51 – formed in 1994, and the pair are looking to put on several big shows in the UK to mark their 30th anniversary.
An insider told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Basement Jaxx got their name because of the club nights they put on in Brixton in 1994.
“They didn’t release their debut album for another five years but for Felix and Simon, this year celebrates 30 years from where their music first started.
“They are planning in the coming weeks to announce a handful of massive shows to mark the milestone.
“Last year Basement Jaxx only played a couple of times in the UK, and this will give fans more of a chance to see a full live show.
“It is massive for Felix and Simon and they’re really excited about what they have planned.”
The source also suggested that the pair – whose latest studio album ‘Junto’ launched a decade ago – weren’t necessarily planning on making new music but would be willing to consider getting back in the studio if the gigs prove to be successful.
They continued: “If the shows are as successful as they think they might be, they could start working on some new music which would be really special.
“It’s something they’ve been talking about for a while.”
In 2019, the ‘Red Alert’ chart-toppers revealed they wanted to work on a new album to drown out the “shallow and stupid” modern pop music offerings.
Speaking to The Herald Sun, Simon said: “We’ve been living in a dumbed-down culture for ages, pop music has been so shallow and stupid.”
Felix added: “Now feels like a good time to come back and funnily enough club music has gone back to what we were doing at the beginning.”
