Ariana Grande is back in the studio

OHMYGOSSIP — Ariana Grande is already back in the studio.
The pop superstar has posted a cryptic snap from her “happy” place, the studio, just two months after she released her latest chart-topping album, ‘Eternal Sunshine’.
She simply captioned the black-and-white photo of the mixing desk on her Instagram Story: “happy.”
The ‘We Can’t Be Friends (Wait For Your Love)’ hitmaker’s return to the recording booth – which she is yet to confirm is for more solo music or part of her contributions to the ‘Wicked’ films – comes after she recently celebrated her grandmother’s place in history after she became the oldest person ever to score a hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Ariana listed her “Nonna” Majorie Grande as a singer and a writer on the track ‘Ordinary Things’ on the LP, and Majorie made history when the song entered the run-down at number 55.
The 30-year-old singer-and-actress – who is set to star as Glinda in the two-part ‘Wicked’ movie adaptation – shared a picture of Majorie posing with a plaque commemorating her achievement and captioned it on Instagram: “Celebrating the one and only, most beautiful Nonna who has now made history for being the senior most person to ever appear on the @billboard Hot100.
“We love and thank you.”
The feat has made Majorie the most senior person to ever feature on the chart since it was founded in 1958.
She toppled a record set by late songwriter Fred Stobaugh, who was 96 when his song ‘Oh Sweet Lorraine’ charted on the Hot 100 at number 42 back in 2013.
Stobaugh passed away three years later.
On ‘Ordinary Things’, Majorie is heard talking about her late husband Frank and gives relationship advice.
She is heard saying: “And when he’d come home and I’d see him, And when he’d come home and I’d see him, when he first gets off that train.
“It was like God almighty arrived. It was like seein’ daylight. I mean, I could’ve packed up and left a million times. You know? It’s not that we never fought. You can overcome that.
“You know? It’s very easy. And as I told her, never go to bed without kissin’ goodnight. That’s the worst thing to do, don’t ever, ever do that. And if you can’t, and if you don’t feel comfortable doing it. You’re in the wrong place, get out.”

Bruce Dickinson brands Iron Maiden’s concerts ‘a magical ritual’

OHMYGOSSIP — Bruce Dickinson has described Iron Maiden’s concerts as “a magical ritual” that is “almost shamanic”.
The frontman of the legendary heavy metal group believes it’s his role to play with gig-goers’ energy levels and spirits when he steps onstage.
In an interview with The Quietus, he began: “An Iron Maiden show is a magic ritual.
“That’s absolutely what is going on. I look at what I’m doing – the way I behave, my placement on the stage at a certain point in the set – as almost shamanic. What you are doing is playing with the audience’s energy, raising it, lowering it, reflecting it back.”
And it’s not an undergoing for the fainthearted.
He went on: “I regard myself when I’m onstage as being essentially transparent. That’s the only way I can deal with the level of intensity that’s happening – removing myself from the equation and letting the song take over. Sometimes, if I throw a s***-fit at some guy in the audience, it’s because they’ve behaved in a way that’s broken the spell. That’s infuriating, because you were so in that moment of actual non-existence. It looks like you’re there, but actually you’re not. You’ve vanished into the music and the show – that’s what propels you, that’s what you’ve become.”
Bruce – who released his latest solo album, ‘The Mandrake Project’, in March, and is currently touring the record – has just been announced as a Patron of The Blake Cottage Trust, which is fundraising to secure the heritage of the late visionary, artist and poet, William Blake.
The 65-year-old rocker is heavily inspired by Blake and has long referenced him many times in his work, including on ‘The Mandrake Project’.
He’s helping the charity raise funds to carry out much-needed repairs on Blake’s cottage in Felpham in Sussex, England.
In the music video for his recent solo single, ‘Rain On The Graves’, Bruce uncovers a replica of Blake’s grave at the end, and it’s being auctioned off to raise money for the fund.
Of Blake, Bruce told the outlet: “He’s an artist to whom you should aspire.
“There’s a purity to what he does that is untrammelled by commerciality or anything like that. He was unpredictable, he was cranky, he was difficult to deal with. He’s uncompromising, he’s rude, he’s bellicose. But he’s incredibly powerful. He matters.”
In a statement, he said: “William Blake has given me so much over the years and I want to repay the debt by helping to restore the Cottage. Despite his impact on the world, there is no centre for Blake, nowhere people can visit to see the place where he actually lived and worked during a key part of his life. I want to change this.”
The year 2027 marks the 200th anniversary of Blake’s death and it’s hoped the Cottage will be open to the public and become a centre for artists, writers and visionaries who wish to follow in Blake’s footsteps. The first step is to repair the roof at a cost of £80,000, with the cost of restoring the whole Cottage estimated at £1.5 million.
A press release adds: “Bruce will be at the vanguard of the fund-raising campaign and will soon be launching an auction of memorabilia from both Iron Maiden and his solo career, through the Iron Maiden Fanclub.”
Blake’s most famous works include 1789’s ‘Songs of Innocence’ and 1794’s ‘Songs of Experience’, which continue to influence today; with U2 having called their 2014 and 2017 albums, respectively, after Blake’s poetry collections.

Bruce Springsteen opens Kilkenny gig with rousing tribute to Shane MacGowan

OHMYGOSSIP — Bruce Springsteen surprised gig-goers by kicking off his Kilkenny gig with a moving tribute to his late friend, Shane MacGowan.
The Boss headlined Nowlan Park with the E Street Band on Sunday (13.05.24) and started his set with a rousing rendition of the Pogues classic ‘A Rainy Night in Soho’ in memory of the Irish music legend.
The ‘Fairytale of New York’ group reacted on X: “Lovely tribute to our boss, thanks Bruce.”
MacGowan died of pneumonia last November, aged 65, after months of battling ill health.
Springsteen, 74, had visited him in hospital during the Irish leg of his world tour.
Paying his respects, the ‘Born to Run’ hitmaker wrote upon the sad news of his passing: “Shane was one of my all-time favourite writers.
“The passion and deep intensity of his music and lyrics is unmatched by all but the very best in the rock and roll canon.
“I was fortunate to spend a little time with Shane and his lovely wife Victoria the last time we were in Dublin. He was very ill, but still beautifully present in his heart and spirit.
“His music is timeless and eternal. I don’t know about the rest of us, but they’ll be singing Shane’s songs 100 years from now.”
The crowd was in for a double treat, as Springsteen arrived onstage two hours early to perform ‘This Hard Land’.
He addressed the audience: “Hey early birds.”
A whopping 28,000 gig-goers attended the sold-out concert.
Meanwhile, this tour has also seen Springsteen sign a young fan’s note to say they were “skipping school”.
Whilst performing at the Chase Center in San Francisco, he saw a sign that read: “Skipping school, sign my note?”
And the rock legend obliged so the youngster could miss school the following day.

Gabrielle overcame stage fright thanks to Adele and Stormzy

OHMYGOSSIP — Gabrielle has overcome her stage fright thanks to Adele and Stormzy.
The 54 -year-old singer has battled nerves on stage for over 30 years, but – after 2022 saw her support Adele, 36, at Hyde Park and join Stormzy, 30, in his video for ‘Mel Made Me Do It’ – she has continued to grow in confidence.
She told the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column: “I was always scared to go on stage, a bit of a scaredy cat.
“Having recognition from young ‘uns like Adele and Stormzy, that’s huge for me.”
The ‘Dreams’ hitmaker acknowledged that experience has also helped, but she credited the respect of younger artists will encouraging her in a big way.
She added: “Confidence for my shows has come with age too, but if the young ‘uns don’t mind quirky Gabs, that’s great, because that’s the way I’ve always been.”
Gabrielle – who released her eighth studio album ‘A Place In Your Heart’ last week – admitted working with the ‘Hello’ megastar and ‘Vossi Bop’ chart topper wasn’t something she expected was ever on the cards.
She quipped: “I can’t even say, ‘Dreams can come true’ about being asked to support Adele, because it’s not something I could believe would ever happen.
“I didn’t think Stormzy would even know my name, so their reaction was so nice, I was super gassed.”
Next year, Gabrielle will hit the road on her first ever arena tour, which will include her biggest show to date at The O2 arena in London.
While part of her is nervous about playing “such huge venues”, she knows the experience will be “wicked”.
She said: “I can be quirky and nutty when I talk to the audience. But, as the years have gone by, I know people have come to see me do what I do.
“They’re there for my banter, as well as songs that some people say mean so much to them.”

‘It was complicated!’ Slipknot drummer Eloy Casagrande tells of Sepultura exit

OHMYGOSSIP — Slipknot’s new drummer Eloy Casagrande has admitted his Sepultura departure was “complicated”.
The 33-year-old stickman recently replaced Jay Weinberg on the drums for the ‘Wait and Bleed’ hitmakers, after he quit fellow metal outfit Sepultura.
Eloy has told how he was keen to continue in Sepultura for their farewell tour, but he had to depart the ‘Attitude’ hitmakers are being told he couldn’t “juggle the two bands”.
He told Brazil’s Veja Sao Paulo: “I received the invitation to audition [for Slipknot] after the [Sepultura farewell] tour was announced.
“The big thing, the reason I agreed to audition, was the end of Sepultura.
“The band was going to break up, and I didn’t want to stop playing drums at the age of 33.
“I had a chat with Slipknot, asked about their schedule and if it would be possible to juggle the two bands, but they said no, it wouldn’t be possible, I’d be exclusive.
“So it was my decision to leave Sepultura. It was complicated.
“I told [Sepultura my decision] when I had closed the deal [with Slipknot] on February 5th or 6th. That very day I called a meeting and explained the situation. That was it, an individual decision.”
Eloy admitted Slipknot wanted to “test [him] in every way” before they hired him.
He added: “They asked me to record and send them some videos from right here in Brazil.
“Initially there were three songs, then they asked me for three more, and asked if I had any plans to go to the United States, and I was scheduled to perform there in January with my instrumental music project, CASAGRANDE and HANYSZ.
“So they moved my flight up a bit, and I spent five days in Palm Springs, rehearsing with the full band. Then they asked me to extend my stay by another five days, so we could record some things.
“I think that was also part of the audition. They threw new ideas at me to see what my songwriting was like. They wanted to test me in every way.”
In March, Jay – who is the son of Bruce Springsteen’s drummer Max Weinberg – joined Suicidal Tendencies after he was axed from Slipknot last year.
The musician previously told how he was left “heartbroken and blindsided” when he was let go from the band, after almost a decade behind the drums.

Billie Eilish announces Hit Me Hard And Soft cinema listening events in US

OHMYGOSSIP — Billie Eilish is giving fans the chance to attend the ‘HIT ME HARD AND SOFT – A Listening Event Presented by Apple Music’ in cinemas.
On May 16 and 17, those who cannot attend the Los Angeles and New York listening parties will be able to head to AMC Theatres in North America for the preview.
The ‘What Was I Made For?’ hitmaker shared on her Instagram Story: “[Something] special for those of u who can’t make it to la or ny (sic).”
Tickets will cost just $5, including a donation to AMC Cares Charitable Fund.
The pair of US listening parties are taking place at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center and LA’s Kia Forum on May 15 and 16, respectively. The free events swiftly reached capacity.
‘Hit Me Hard And Soft’ lands on May 17, and the 22-year-old Grammy winner is also embarking on a tour in support of the LP, which will run from September 2024 to July 2025.
The ‘Ocean Eyes’ singer will commence the run in North America and Canada, before heading to Australia in February the following year, and will eventually make her way over to Europe, where she will wrap the run in Dublin, Ireland.
Billie first revealed the tracklist for her highly anticipated LP earlier this month, with the 10-track LP including the tracks ‘Skinny’, ‘Lunch’, ‘The Diner’, ‘Birds of a Feather’, ‘Chihiro’ and ‘The Greatest’, among others.
Billie previously spoke about how she and her brother Finneas O’Connell wrote the songs “without much thought of other people”.
Speaking with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, she said: “Every time you put anything out, it feels like your n**** leaked a little bit.
“I think this one specifically is like that. Something that Finneas and I said to a couple of people when we started to play it for people is we kind of made the album that if somebody had said, ‘I want you to make an album, and no one is going to hear it. You don’t have to worry about anyone’s ears or opinions or anything at all. It’s in your contract to make an album but no one can hear it.’
“We pretty much made that album. We made that album without much thought of other people.”

He said: “I mean, God, Taylor’s songwriting, it’s so extraordinary. There’s really no adjectives for it.
“She’s such a great, great writer. So this new album is just more proof of that in really great ways.”
Keith and his family are huge Swifties, and he previously shared his kids excitement when he got a text from the ‘Fortnight’ hitmaker to appear on her re-recorded album ‘Fearless’.
He appears on two tracks on ‘Fearless’ (Taylor’s Version), ‘We Were Happy’ and ‘That’s When’, and Sunday, 15 and Faith, 13 – whom he has with wife Nicole Kidman – were thrilled that their father was in contact with the ‘Shake It Off’ hitmaker.
The star also revealed that he was doing last-minute Christmas shopping in Australia when Taylor sent him the request.
Speaking on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ in 2021, Keith recalled: “I’m at the shopping mall doing my Christmas shopping and I get a text from Taylor saying, ‘I’ve got these couple of songs I’d like you to sing on, do you want to hear them?’ And I said, ‘Sure’.
“So she sends me these songs and I’m sitting in the food court at the shopping centre listening to these two unreleased Taylor Swift songs.
“It was an unusual place to be hearing unreleased Taylor Swift music but I love the songs and luckily got to put a vocal on both of those.”

Foo Fighters adding extra tickets for UK summer tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Foo Fighters have extra tickets available for their UK leg of their ‘Everything Or Nothing At All Tour’ this summer.
Dave Grohl and co have announced more tickets will go on sale at 9am BST on Friday (10.05.24) for their pair of London Stadium concerts, as well as Manchester, Glasgow, Cardiff, and Birmingham.
The ‘Everlong’ rockers wrote on X: “UK!!! Announcing extra tickets are being made available at each show on the Everything or Nothing At All Tour!!! The additional tickets will be on sale Friday, 10 May at 9am BST.
“See all upcoming shows: https://FooFighters.lnk.to/Shows.”
The support acts for the jaunt are Wet Leg, Courtney Barnett, and Shame.
Meanwhile, Josh Freese recently admitted he “wishes” he wasn’t in the Foo Fighters.
The rock star joined the band in 2023 to take the place of late drummer Taylor Hawkins – who died in 2022 at the age of 50 – but finds the whole thing to be “bittersweet” because the pair were on friendly terms with each other for more than two decades.
He told the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column: “It continues to be bittersweet. Part of me wants to say like I wish I wasn’t there at all. I wish there wasn’t a reason for me to be the drummer in Foo Fighters. I was friendly acquaintances with Taylor for like 25 years and then in the last five/six years we became a lot closer, which makes the whole thing even more odd.”
Josh – who plays alongside Dave, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett Pat Smear, Rami Jaffee – knew most of them in some form before joining but recalled feeling that there would be no way for the ‘Best of You’ rockers to continue when Taylor died of an overdose.
He said: “I’ve known Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffee for 30 years, well before they were in the band, and I met Dave before he was in Nirvana.. I met Dave at a concert at Cal State Long Beach in like 1990 when he was in Scream. After Taylor’s passing, first thing I thought was how are these guys going to move on from this – Taylor was such an important component, on and off stage. And he wasn’t just a drummer, you know. He was such a big personality. [I thought] ‘Are they even going to go on…does Dave go solo now?'”

Foo Fighters UK tour dates June 2024:
June 13 – Emirates Old Trafford Stadium, Manchester
June 15 – Emirates Old Trafford Stadium, Manchester
June 17 – Hampden Stadium, Glasgow
June 20 – London Stadium, London
June 22 – London Stadium, London

Alt-rock musician Steve Albini dies aged 61

OHMYGOSSIP — Steve Albini has died aged 61.
The acclaimed musician – who helmed some of the most revered albums across America’s alternative music scene – has passed away after suffering a heart attack at his recording studio.
Staff at the studio, Electrical Audio, have confirmed to Pitchfork that Albini died on Tuesday (07.05.24).
The late musician fronted bands such as Big Black, Rapeman and Shellac, while he also produced albums for the likes of Nirvana, Pixies, PJ Harvey, and Jimmy Page and Robert Plant.
Albini was heavily influenced by the punk movement during his younger years, and he ultimately founded his own music project called Big Black, firstly as a solo effort before it eventually became a quartet.
The group released their debut album, ‘Atomizer’ in 1986, and they’re now recognised as one of the most influential punk groups of the era.
Despite this, the group split and in 1987, Albini formed a new band called Rapeman.
Albini then formed Shellac in 1992 alongside drummer Todd Trainer and bassist Bob Weston. Together, they released five albums and the group are actually scheduled to release their latest record, ‘To All Trains’, next week.
In 1995, Albini established his own recording studio and he worked with several high-profile acts, including Joanna Newsom, Low, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Manic Street Preachers, and Jarvis Cocker.
Away from the music scene, Albini also enjoyed huge success as a poker player, winning two bracelets at World Series of Poker tournaments, as well as hundreds of thousands of dollars in prize money.
Albini is survived by his wife, movie-maker Heather Whinna.

The Killers hit Mr Brightside breaks Wonderwall record 20 years after release

OHMYGOSSIP — The Killers classic ‘Mr Brightside’ has become the UK’s biggest single of all time yet to reach number one.
The 2004 indie pop anthem originally peaked at number 10 in the singles charts when it was released 20 years ago this month, but it has become an iconic track across the UK.
Now, Official Charts has confirmed the song is now “the longest-running Top 100 hit” in its history, making it the biggest top 10 hit of all time.
With combined UK sales and streams of 5.57 million, the song has overtaken Oasis hit ‘Wonderwall’ to take the record.
The Killers told Official Charts: “Thank you so much to all our fans for making ‘Mr. Brightside’ the third biggest song of all time in the UK, and the biggest ever not to have reached Number 1; not yet at least!
“This Top 10 Award means a lot to us, ‘Mr. Brightside’ has been completely embraced by the British public and we can’t wait to celebrate with you all on the road. Thank you for supporting us. See you soon!”
Official Charts chief executive Martin Talbot described the achievement as “a triumph of extraordinary longevity”.
He added: “It is a song which has lived with so many of us throughout the recent decades of our lives – and, for some, an entire lifetime.”
The track was written after frontman Brandon Flowers discovered his girlfriend was cheating on him.
The song came together quickly, with the singer inspired by the now-iconic riff and quickly writing down the words.
He told Spin magazine: “At first, all I heard was the riff. The lyrics came later. This was before cell phones came along…
“when I first heard those chords, I wrote the lyrics down and we didn’t waste much time. We went in and made demos pretty quickly after that, and it took a ton of time.
“That’s also why there’s not a second verse. The second is the same as the first. I just didn’t have any other lines and it ended up sticking.”
While some artists eventually resent their biggest hits, Brandon still loves to play the song.
He added: “We’ve never not played that song live, because it’s stood the test of time and I’m proud of it. I never get bored of singing it.”

ASTRO’s Cha Eun-woo channelled grief over tragic loss of Moonbin into debut solo EP

OHMYGOSSIP — ASTRO’s Cha Eun-woo says he wrote ‘Entity’ to “help keep” his late bandmate Moonbin’s “memory alive”.
The K-pop star was tragically found dead at his home in Seoul, South Korea, last April, aged just 25, and Eun-woo has revealed his emotional debut solo EP was penned from Moonbin’s perspective.
Appearing on South Korean talk show ‘You Quiz on the Block’, he said: “Last year was a very difficult year for me.
“I wrote the lyrics after days and nights of shooting, recording, trying to channel Moonbin’s perspective.
“People tend to forget too easily. That’s just really upsetting to think about. I believed that by writing about him, it would help keep his memory alive for a longer period of time.”
The 27-year-old singer-and-actor was told he could take a hiatus following the tragic loss, but instead he took on the role of Sun-yool in the K-drama ‘Wonderful World’, because the character reminded him of Moonbin.
He explained: “I felt a connection to Sun-yool… his backstory struck a chord with me.
“I felt that I needed to pull myself together and work hard so that my world wouldn’t collapse. Although my agency said I could take a break, I ended up doing Wonderful World because I wanted to.”
The series tells a story about an author and professor whose life falls apart after her son is killed in a hit-and-run accident. She seeks justice but ends up committing a crime herself and is sentenced to prison. The show explores themes of grief, guilt, and redemption.
It ends with the poignant line: “May the world be more peaceful and affectionate to those who have the pain of loss.”
Eun-woo declared: “I know this is something that will stay with me for the rest of my life, so I’ll strive harder. I’ll live well, for Moonbin’s sake.”

Slash admits it was a ‘huge honour’ getting Brian Johnson and Steven Tyler on blues LP

OHMYGOSSIP — Slash says it was a “huge honour” having AC/DC’s Brian Johnson and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler play on his record.
The Guns N’ Roses guitarist has enlisted a range of artists, also including Chris Stapleton, Iggy Pop, Chris Robinson and Gary Clark Jr., to perform on ‘Orgy Of The Damned’, a record of mostly blues tracks.
And he has revealed it was quite “spontaneous” getting Tyler to play harmonica on their cover of Howlin’ Wolf’s 60s’ classic ‘Killing Floor’, whilst singer Johnson was “really conscientious” about doing the song justice.
Slash told Swedish radio station Rokklassiker: “All I would do is pick the songs and then think who I would want to sing ’em. And Brian was the first guy I thought of [for ‘Killing Floor’].
“[H]e was really excited about it, because he was very much influenced [by] and covered Howlin’ Wolf in his younger years.
“So he got permission from the AC/DC guys to go ahead and do it, and I went and met with Brian in Florida [where Johnson lives], and he just did this great version of the song.”
On Tyler wanting to jump in on the action, he added: “I told him I was doing it, on the phone, and he … offered to play harmonica. I didn’t ask him. And he came down that day and put it on. It was great. You know, it was very spontaneous and … we had a good hang that day.”
The ‘Welcome To The Jungle’ hitmaker recently admitted it wasn’t easy to get people to feature on the record.
He told Classic Rock magazine: “Listen, when you’re cold-calling musicians, some of whom you don’t even know, it doesn’t matter who you are. It’s a hard gig.
“You’re trying to sell an idea.
“The two hardest ones to nail down were Chris Stapleton and Billy Gibbons. Billy’s all over the place. He’s always working and he’s always doing something. I told him I was doing a version of ‘Hoochie Coochie Man’ and I knew from his tone of voice that he was sceptical.
“I mean, he knows me, but… Anyway, I had to coax him into it…
“I feel really honoured that he’s on the record.”
In fact, Tyler didn’t get back to him for a while.
Slash said: “He was incommunicado for a month. And then, when the record was done, I finally heard from him; ‘Oh man, I’ve been here and there. What’s happening?’
“And that’s why he came down to put the harmonica on ‘Killing Floor’.”
The record has been in the pipeline since 1996, when Slash had left Guns N’ Roses and was working on a side project, Slash’s Blues Ball.

The Beatles announce new Let It Be music video 55 years on from original release

OHMYGOSSIP — The Beatles have announced a new music video for ‘Let It Be’.
The legendary rock group released the classic track from their final studio album in 1970 and now, almost 55 years later, a brand new video featuring clips from the Disney+ film of the same title will be released on Friday (10.05.24), along with unseen outtakes from the rushes.
The ‘Let It Be’ film contains footage not featured in the ‘Get Back’ docuseries, bringing viewers firstly into rehearsals, then the studio and finally onto Apple Corps’ London rooftop in January 1969 as The Beatles – which consisted of Sir Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the late John Lennon and George Harrison – are joined by songwriter Billy Preston where they write and record their GRAMMY Award-winning ‘Let It Be’ album’ , and perform live for the final time as a group.
Apple Corps got Jackson’s Park Road Post Production to “dive into a meticulous restoration of the film from the original 16mm negative,” and used the same technology used in the ‘Get Back’ series.
Lindsay-Hogg commented: “Let It Be was ready to go in October/November 1969, but it didn’t come out until April 1970. One month before its release, The Beatles officially broke up.
“And so the people went to see ‘Let It Be’ with sadness in their hearts, thinking, ‘I’ll never see The Beatles together again. I will never have that joy again,’ and it very much darkened the perception of the film.
“But in fact, there’s a great deal of joy and happiness and creation going on, and ‘Let It Be’ is – especially when you get to the roof, and you see the exchange and the way that they look at each other – essentially a happy and ‘up’ movie. I was knocked out by what Peter was able to do with ‘Get Back,’ using all the footage I’d shot 50 years previously.”

Duran Duran announce landmark reissue of first five studio albums

OHMYGOSSIP — Duran Duran are to reissue their first five studio albums on LP and CD.
The rock band – which consists of Nick Rhodes, John Taylor, Roger Taylor and Simon Le Bon – will re-release their self-titled debut album as well as ‘Rio’, ‘Seven and the Ragged Tiger’, ‘Notorious’, and ‘Big Thing’, all of which have been out-of-print for several years.
The collection will be available in the original 1LP and 1CD format, with remastered audio via Warner Music from 19 July, with all of the artwork having been closely restored to the original sleeve designs from the 1980s.
Their 1981 debut features hits like ‘Planet Earth’, whilst their follow-up spawned hits like ‘My Own Way’ and ‘Hungry Like the Wolf’, and their third record – which is so far the only of their 16 studio albums to hit number one – showcases classic tracks like ‘New Moon on Monday’ and ‘Union of the Snake’.
As well as its title track, ‘Notorious’ also features lesser-known songs like ‘Meet El Presidente’ and ‘Skin Trade’ whilst ‘Big Thing’ features their songs ‘All She Wants Is’ and ‘I Don’t Want Your Love’, which became a hit for the band in the US upon its release in 1988.
The ‘Girls on Film’ hitmakers are due to return to the stage with a headline performance in Suffolk at Latitude Festival on 28 July, which will follow on from their sellout UK and USA arena tours that took place in 2023.
In 2022, the band released their ‘Danse Macabre’ album – which reached the Top 5 on the UK Album charts – and headlined London’s Hyde Park, performed at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace, and closed the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.
