Charli XCX: ‘I know I’m not everybody’s cup of tea’

OHMYGOSSIP — Charli XCX admits she knows she isn’t “everybody’s cup of tea”.
The ‘360’ hitmaker has just had her biggest-selling week yet with her acclaimed LP ‘BRAT’, which was beaten only by Taylor Swift’s juggernaut, ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, to number one on the Official UK Chart, whilst it hit number three in the US.
Amid her massive career “moment”, the 31-year-old hyperpop star has thanked her loyal fans who have stuck with her since the start of her career and “understand” her.
Before performing ‘Sympathy is a Knife’ at her Los Angeles concert at the weekend, she said: “It’s just really cool, like, I just feel like artistry shines through, you know what I’m saying?
“I already know I’m not everybody’s cup of tea, don’t get me wrong, but um, I am just really appreciative for the people who’ve been there from the jump, and understood my vision. I don’t know. The whole thing that’s going on at the moment, people keep texting me, ‘You’re having a moment. A moment.’
“It’s very cool, but I just want to say thank you to all of you guys, who have been here. I just really appreciate that because I would be nothing without you. So seriously, thank you so much.”
Despite the success, Charli recently insisted she didn’t go chasing a number one with ‘BRAT’.
During an interview with British GQ, she said: “I’m constantly going back and forth in my conflict around fame and what constitutes success.
“This new music is not going to be played in Starbucks. It’s not going to be played on the Zen Morning playlist.
“It’s pop music and I’m being true to myself.
“But I also know that if I chose a slightly different, maybe more palatable path, I do have the skills as a songwriter to write big Top 40 pop hits.”
The ‘I Love It’ hitmaker added that her fans would know she was being “inauthentic” if she focused on commercial success.
She said: “Sometimes I tempt myself with going there, but I think the problem is my fanbase knows that that’s not who I am, so they kind of smell a rat, and they’re like, ‘This is inauthentic.’
“But I think that sometimes puts me in this position where the masses are like, ‘What the f*** is this?’”
Charli also knows that reaching the top of the charts would not bring her any happiness.
She explained: “I would in no way be as happy, creatively satisfied or, honestly, as good as some of the people who are operating on a hugely commercial level, because maybe I’m just not built for it.”

Meghan Trainor dreams of collaborating with Rihanna

OHMYGOSSIP — Meghan Trainor says Rihanna is the artist she most wants to collaborate with.
The 30-year-old singer – who has sons Riley, three, and 11-month-old Barry with her husband Daryl Sabara – would love to work with the ‘Umbrella’ hitmaker in the future, and cited their experiences of motherhood could help the two bond.
Speaking to assembled media at Capital’s Summertime Ball with Barclaycard, she said: “ [I] love her, she’s perfect … We both have two boys so we’re the same.”
After releasing her sixth album ‘Timeless’ earlier this month, Meghan is now getting ready to head out on tour in support of the LP, but she will be enjoying a few weeks off in July.
Meghan – who performed at the pop extravaganza held at Wembley Stadium in London – she said: “I have a quick break when I go home because I’ve been promoting my album ‘Timeless’ non-stop. July apparently is off, but that’s a laugh. And then August, I start rehearsing my tour, and then September, October, we’re on tour.”
The ‘Timeless Tour’ will mark the first time the ‘All About That Bass’ hitmaker has hit the road since 2016, and she joked that feels like she has been “training for the Olympics”.
She recently said: “I’m feeling fit. I’ve never been so fit. I already told my household. I was like, ‘I am training for the Olympics, OK?’
“I want to train and eat clean, and feel good when I’m dancing and singing. I don’t wanna be so winded, because right now, I’m winded!”

The six-member girl group performed at the city’s O2 Arena on Subnday (16.06.24), where they opened the concert with the high-energy track “I AM,” followed by singles and album tracks that were met with audible excitement by their fans – named DIVE – who filled the venue.
Wonyoung – arguably South Korea’s biggest it girl since she rose to fame in 2018 – told the audience: “I tried fish and chips in London yesterday! They were so delicious and [I had the] the happiest time ever.
Other members also shared their excitement about exploring the city.
Yujin called it “such a beautiful place” and mentioned her wish to visit landmarks like Big Ben and the Notting Hill bookstore from the namesake movie.

Throughout the night, the members expressed their excitement and gratitude, with leader Yujin remarking: “I think you guys have the most energy in Europe.”
The setlist included a European tour-exclusive rock version of ‘Royal’, an emotional performance of ‘Shine With Me’, a choreography using umbrellas, stage design including flower-adorned benches and conceptual videos between segments.
The concert also featured a covers section that featured Gaeul’s rendition of Ariana Grande’s ‘7 Rings’, Rei’s performance of Niki’s ‘Every Summertime’, and their joint cover of the Spice Girls’ ‘Wannabe’.
Rapper Gaeul hailed performing the latter as a dream come true, telling the crowd: “Finally, we performed ‘Wannabe’ here! For me, it was a dream.”
A duet of ‘Reality’ by Richard Sanderson was sung by Wonyoung and Liz, and Leeseo and Yujin covered British girl group Little Mix’s ‘Woman Like Me’.
Yujin noted: “We finally performed ‘Woman Like Me’ in London! I was really looking forward to performing it here, so it was a meaningful time for me.”
During the final section, Wonyoung shared her pride in seeing their fans singing along to ‘Blue Heart’ and ‘OTT’, songs for which she participated in the writing process.
Referencing the song’s lyrics, she said: “It’s our first time in London, and seeing you all sing along makes me so proud. Love you guys ‘over the top’’.”
The night concluded with a cover of Icona Pop’s ‘All Night’, where the group repeated the chorus four times before saying their final goodbyes.
Yujin closed the night by saying: “We’ll go home with the great energy you gave us, so really, thank you so much! We’ll come back even better, so wait for us!”

The track-listing includes Taylor’s tracks ‘Am I Ready For Love’ and ‘Can I Go With You’, plus covers of The Chicks’ (formerly Dixie Chicks) ‘There’s Your Trouble’, Dolly Parton‘s ‘Here You Come Again’ and Olivia Newton-John‘s ‘Hopelessly Devoted To You’.
The lot also came with a photo of the ‘All Too Well’ singer and a note with her contact details.
Taylor had given out the demo CDs when she was starting out on a trip to Nashville.
Meanwhile, the ‘Anti-Hero’ hitmaker has confirmed her record-breaking ‘Eras World Tour’ will wrap this December.
She told fans during one her gigs at Anfield in Liverpool: “This has definitely been the most exhausting, all-encompassing but most joyful, most rewarding, most wonderful thing that has ever wondered in my life, this tour.
“This is the very first time I’ve ever acknowledged to myself and admitted that this tour is going to end in December. Like, that’s it. That feels so far from now, but then again, it feels like we’ve just played our first show on this tour.
“This tour has really become my entire life, it’s taken over everything, like I think I once had hobbies, but I don’t know what they were anymore. All I do when I’m not on stage is sit at home and try to think of clever acoustic song mashups and think about what you might want to hear.”

Sum 41 want to find original singer who ‘never’ spoke to them again after leaving in 1997

OHMYGOSSIP — Sum 41 would love a reunion with their original singer after not seeing him since 1997.
The ‘In Too Deep’ pop punk legends – who played their last ever UK show at Download Festival over the weekend – have “never” seen former frontman Jon Marshall after he quit the band 27 years ago.
Deryck Whibley, who took over on vocals at the time, told the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column: “[The song ‘Johnny Libertine’] is a reference to Jon. He was the most punk-rock guy I have ever known.
“We were 16 when we knew him and he was in this delirium, no plan B, we destroyed everything. [laughs]
“He was my best friend, then he left the group never to be seen again.”
Although Sum 41 – who are retiring with their final gig coming in Toronto in January – would love to find their former friend, they have no idea where he is.
Deryck said: “Nothing at all. I would like a ‘goodbye.’ ”
When it comes to the band’s own farewells, the ‘Fat Lip’ hitmaker is proud of the group’s final album ‘Heaven :X: Hell’, which feels like a fitting “goodbye” to their fans.
He explained: “We could not make a better record to say goodbye. I want Sum 41 to stop at a moment when everything surrounding the group makes us happy.”
He is still looking to keep busy though, and the 44-year-old star has a desire to keep writing music.
He added: “I want to do other projects and that includes songwriting.”
However, he has no clue what his next move will be, and gave a very honest answer when asked what he will do the morning after Sum 41’s last ever gig.
He admitted: “Ask myself, ‘What the f*** am I going to do now?’ ”

Lewis Capaldi returns to the studio a year on from taking a hiatus

OHMYGOSSIP — Lewis Capaldi has returned to the studio for the first time since announcing his hiatus a year ago.
Scotland’s answer to Beyonce has been working from his home studio with songwriter Dan D’Lion recently, though there are said to be no plans to make a return just yet.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Lewis is doing really well, so much has changed in the past year.
“He has been looking after himself and getting lots of help and there’s been a sea change in how he’s feeling.
“There are no plans to return anytime soon but it’s promising that he is back jamming with his mates and thinking about music.
“It looked touch and go whether he would want to, or be able, to return at one point.
“So things are really looking up.”
Dan is unintentionally inspired by disco and artists such as Jamiroquai and Earth Wind and Fire.
He told Notion in 2020: “I never really mention the disco but when we’re creating in the studio it always comes up. Maybe it’s from that Jamiroquai/Earth Wind and Fire influence but I want to be able to have a side of me that’s extroverted. The one that’s loud and full of energy while also maintaining that part of me that’s introverted, that takes that time to look inside and write. It just depends on which side I wake up on.”
The 27-year-old singer’s second album ‘Broken By Desire to be Heavenly Sent’ went to No1 in the UK charts in 2023 and Lewis later launched an extended version of the record with five new songs – but stated at the time he was still going to be on a break from the spotlight due to his battle with Tourette syndrome.
He told fans: “I’m going to continue taking some time to carry on looking after myself, maybe writing some music and taking a moment to reflect on some of the most incredible years of my life.
“I want to make absolutely sure I’m 100 per cent before getting back out there again properly for more shows and doing what I love more than anything.”
The ‘Pointless’ singer had been struggling to perform with vocal tics plaguing his singing, a symptom of the neurological disorder.
Lewis confirmed he needed to spend more time focusing on his “mental and physical health” after fans rallied behind him after his Glastonbury 2023 performance.
In a lengthy statement shared on social media, he said: “First of all, thank you to Glastonbury for having me, for singing along when I needed it and for all the amazing messages afterwards. It really does mean the world.
“The fact that this probably won’t come as a surprise doesn’t make it any easier to write, but I’m very sorry to let you all know I’m going to be taking a break from touring for the foreseeable future.
“I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I’d hoped 3 weeks away would sort me out.
“But the truth is I’m still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette’s and on Saturday it become obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come.”

Katy Perry is ‘sexy confident’ on comeback single Woman’s World

OHMYGOSSIP — Katy Perry will make her long-awaited comeback with the new single ‘Woman’s World’ next month.
The pop star has announced the single will arrive on July 11, before the video lands on July 12.
Katy shared a preview of the track on her Instagram by lip-syncing to the empowering tune in a cheeky white bikini.
The lyrics include: “Sexy confident. So intelligent. She is heaven sent. So soft. So strong.”
It will mark the ‘I Kissed A Girl’ hitmaker’s first piece of music since she featured on 2022’s ‘Where We Started’ with 34-year-old country star Thomas Rhett.
The release news comes after Katy recently revealed she’s teamed up with Congolese Canadian singer Lu Kala on one of her “biggest songs that has yet to come out.”
The 39-year-old singer teased the track during an ‘American Idol’ event in April.
With her arms wrapped around Lu, she said: “She helped me write one of my biggest songs that has yet to come out. But it’s coming out.”
The 28-year-old co-writer – who appeared on Latto’s song ‘Lottery’ last year – captioned the Instagram clip: “I was not expecting any of this, wow. Thank you @katyperry for letting me be the tiniest part of what you have coming. I can’t wait for the world to hear it.”
Katy already teased that her new album will be “pure joy and fun”.
The ‘Firework’ singer – who has three-year-old daughter Daisy with fiancé Orlando Bloom – shared that the follow-up to 2020’s ‘Smile’ is inspired by her feeling “really happy and whole”, and she doesn’t care if other artists dismiss that as “boring”.
She told ‘Access Hollywood’: “I just have yet to make a record from a place of feeling really happy and whole and full of love.
“Sometimes artists are like, ‘Oh, that’s boring, you want to make music from kind of like a tougher place,’ but actually it’s very bright and joyful, like pure joy and fun and playful and celebratory and a party.”

The other members of the K-pop group have launched their own firms for their solo careers.
Jisoo and Lisa officially started Blissoo and LLOUD, respectively, and Jennie launched Odd Atelier (OA) last year.
This came after they decided not to not renew their solo contracts with YG Entertainment.
However, the ‘Pink Venom’ hitmakers remain at the agency as a collective.
YG said: “The board has completed a resolution about renewing the contracts with Blackpink’s four members.”
The firm’s founder Yang Hyun Suk added: “We are pleased to continue our relationship with Blackpink.
“Blackpink will continue to do its best to shine even brighter in the global music market as an artist representing not only our company but also K-pop. […] And we send our unwavering support and faith to [fans].”
Fans of the four-piece had been concerned by reports they could go elsewhere after their contract was up for renewal after seven years.

Billie Eilish ‘scaled London’s O2 Arena to celebrate reaching No1 with Hit Me Hard and Soft album‘

OHMYGOSSIP — Billie Eilish is said to have scaled London’s O2 Arena to celebrate reaching No1 in the UK charts with her album ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’.
The 22-year-old singer reportedly climbed the landmark with six of her team to thank them for their hard work on the record, according to The Sun.
A source told the publication: “Billie wanted to do something different to mark her third No1 and to reward the people she works with.
“They donned all the gear including climbing boots and hi-vis jackets and walked across the building’s roof as part of the ‘Up at the O2’ experience.
“They were able to see all across London without being disturbed, which is pretty special for someone as famous as her.
“Of course she’s played at The O2 loads of times before, but making it on to the roof was a first for her.”
The UK leg of Billie’s upcoming gigs are said to include six nights at London’s O2 arena
Her reported daredevil stunt comes in the wake of Billie showing off a huge dragon tattoo – after once saying fans would “never” see her body art.
The ‘Ocean Eyes’ singer posted a video on Instagram showing her gyrating as she held onto the arms of a desk chair while revealing the tip of a dragon design and wearing a T-shirt featuring an angel from Raphael’s Sistine Chapel painting.
Billie was in a cluttered room while filming the clip.
She said in 2020 her tattoos would stay secret, but the Grammy winner revealed part of an enormous inking she referred to as the “big boy” in a 2021 Vanity Fair interview during a photoshoot for Vogue the same year,
Billie also displayed a section of a dragon’s tail inking under a high-slitted gown she wore to the Met Gala afterparty in 2021.
The design features an open-mouthed dragon and starts at the side of belly button, wrapping down her hip and upper thigh.
Billie has several other tatts including “some fairies that are from a book that I had growing up – a little fairy book called ‘Fairyopolis’” on her hand and wrist.
She has said she has three tattoos including a design on her chest “that says ‘Eilish.’”

Noel Gallagher refuses to watch football with Liverpool-supporting High Flying Birds bandmates

OHMYGOSSIP — Noel Gallagher refuses to watch football with his Liverpool-supporting High Flying Birds bandmates.
The die-hard Manchester City supporter, 57, says four of his colleagues support the Reds and he can no longer bear being in the same room as them when football matches are on.
He told The Athletic magazine: “Oh, it’s tense… the drummer, Chris, is a Liverpool fan. Two of the brass section are Liverpool fans and my guitar tech is a Liverpool fan.
“When the rivalry first started, before the arrival of (Man City manager Pep) Guardiola, we watched the games together.
“And then one night – I think it was the Champions League quarter-final – it got a bit out of hand.
“The Scousers celebrated a little too much and a little too close to my personal space.
“And I was like, ‘I will f****** fire someone here’.
“So now we watch the games separately and we’re not allowed to mention it.”
Noel also revealed his beloved Man City club once wanted Oasis to invest in the team.
He said: “They wanted us to put money into the club. I remember my manager asking if we wanted to do it.
“At the height of Oasis, there were always City fans asking me, ‘Why don’t you invest in the club?’.
“But it never happened and I’d tell them the same thing every time: ‘Because I haven’t worked all my life for you lot to start throwing s*** at my windows after a 0-0 draw at York’.”
Noel also said in his chat with The Athletic he got his famous crooked nose after being knocked out by a football hooligan.
The former Oasis guitarist travelled up and down the country with his friends to follow his beloved Man City in the 1980s, and said about the scraps they got themselves into: “I got into a lot of scrapes. One minute I was walking past this bus shelter and the next thing, I was waking up in the bus shelter.
“I’d got two black eyes and a busted nose. I never went to get my nose fixed – that’s why it’s still crooked now.”

AJ Tracey refuses to give in to ‘pressure of TikTok’ to constantly drop new music

OHMYGOSSIP — AJ Tracey refuses to let “the pressure of TikTok” force him to put out music he isn’t happy with.
The 30-year-old rapper has released two studio albums, 2019’s self-titled LP and 2021’s ‘Flu Game’, and he wants to ensure his next record is something he can look back on in years to come and feel “proud” of.
Speaking on ‘The Red Carpet Treatment’ podcast by the BRIT Awards with Mastercard, he said: “I’ll be honest, I’m not doing it (keeping the new album under wraps) to be mysterious. I want to take my time and make sure the product is something that I can look back on when I stop doing music and say, I’m proud of that, and I’m happy I put it out like that. Not oh, I felt the pressure of TikTok and the pressure of ‘I need to do this’.”
The ‘Ladbroke Grove’ hitmaker admits he often questions whether he’s doing the right thing by not “complying to the masses and just putting music out every week.”
He said: “I’m a human, of course I worry. But I don’t worry about whether people like the music or not, because I think the music’s good quality. I worry more about if I’m doing the right thing by following my artistry, rather than complying to the masses and just putting music out every week. I know I am doing the right thing but as a human obviously, I still think, oh, maybe I should be doing that.”
Meanwhile, AJ said performing at Glastonbury on the Pyramid Stage in 2022 was a “once in a lifetime experience”.
He said: “That’s a once in a lifetime experience. Every time I get certified for a gold record or a platinum record; I’m as excited as the first time it happened, because it’s a blessing. And where we come from, this is not regular. When I was a little kid rapping my little bars behind West Block in Holland Park School, I never thought that I’d be on the Pyramid Stage with a live band. You’ve got to live in the moment, enjoy it and give people your best performance.”

The 28-year-old former Fifth Harmony star and the 35-year-old singer-songwriter have collaborated on the track ‘Tantrums’ on the upcoming LP ‘Dopamine’.
So far fans have heard the singles ‘Wild Side’ with Cardi B, ‘1:59’ featuring Gunna and ‘Candy Paint’, with the full record set to drop on Friday (14.06.24).
Teasing the album, Normani said it’s the “perfect hybrid” of her “past and present” tastes.
She told Dazed: “I feel like it embodies everything I wanted to say – it feels dominant, strong, assertive – but on the flipside, there are so many layers to what dopamine is.
“You get the highs, the lows, the thrill of it all. And it’s a little toxic, too.”
She went on: “There’s a sense of freedom I have that I’ve been waiting for, a weight lifted – me just being able to be Normani before I’m anything else.
“I’ve grown so much in my tastes, the things that I like are very different than the things I liked before, but I think it’s a perfect hybrid of past and present.”
Fifth Harmony split in 2018 and Normani released her first solo single, ‘Motivation’ in August 2019.
She went on to release songs including ‘Diamonds,’ ‘Bad to You,’ ‘Wild Side,’ ‘Fair,’ and ‘New to You’ but ‘Dopamine’ is her first full-length project solo.

Leigh-Anne adds new single Nature to EP, announces October tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Leigh-Anne has shared her latest solo single, ‘Nature’.
The song has been added to her recently released EP, ‘No Hard Feelings’, and the former Little Mix star debuted the new track at her first solo gig at London’s Lafayette this week.
She said of the tune: “As a thank you for all your love and support so far, I’m adding a BRAND NEW SONG to the project….it’s called Nature. Nothing beats performing it live for the first time at my first headline show last night. This is another really special song that came from my writing camp in Jamaica and I’m super proud of it.”
The ‘Don’t Say Love’ singer has also announced a short tour for October, including London’s Koko on October 28.
Tickets will be available via pre-sale on June 19, and general sale will follow on June 21.
Leigh-Anne recently admitted it’s been hard building her solo career, especially with the rise of TikTok, despite the huge success of Little Mix.
She told Amazon Music’s ‘+44’ podcast : “It’s been a hard sort of transition. I remember, when we did ‘Shout Out To My Ex’ and when streaming started taking over and it really started coming in. I’m so old school, I’m trying to kind of get used to it I guess but with social media and TikTok, that is such an important part of any campaign. We have to set time aside for that. Whereas before it’d be like oh, forget time, we’ll figure it out.”
Leigh-Anne has accepted that not all Little Mix fans will like her solo tunes.
She added: “It’s incredible what Little Mix have done and what we’ve achieved, we’ve absolutely killed it. But now I am on my own and not all of the Little Mix fans are going to come along with me, I have to build a new fan base. Yeah, so I do feel like a new artist to some extent…”
As well as new music, Leigh-Anne has been auditioning for more movie roles after landing her big-screen debut in the festive rom-com ‘Boxing Day’ in 2021.
She said: “I have done a couple of auditions. But I am just kept so busy right now I want to focus on my solo era and do that.”

Leigh-Anne’s October tour dates:
25 Dublin, Academy Green Room
27 Birmingham, O2 Institute 2
28 London, Koko
29 Manchester, Club Academy

The Grammy winner – who was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2014 – passed away in Nashville on June 8, according to the Houston Chronicle.
His family said: “Mark’s legacy and zest for life will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and through his timeless lyrics and melodies that have been the soundtrack of lovers for generations.
“He was a captivating storyteller who had the sweetest smile, the most infectious laugh and a twinkle in his eye that never dimmed.”
Best known for penning ‘Suspicious Minds’, Mark actually released the song in 1968 in a bid to launch his own music career, but it wasn’t a hit until the late King of Rock and Roll sent it rising to the top of the charts.
Sharing the inspiring behind the emotional lyrics, Mark told the Wall Street Journal in 2012: “Late one night, fooling around on my Fender guitar and using my Hammond organ pedals for a bass line, I came up with a catchy melody. I was married to my first wife then but still had feelings for my childhood sweetheart, who was married back in Houston.
“My wife suspected I had those feelings, so it was a confusing time for me. I felt as though all three of us were all caught in this trap that we couldn’t walk out of.”
It marked Elvis’ 18th and final no. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In 1999, the 1969 recording by Elvis on RCA Victor Records was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
According to Mark, the ‘Hound Dog’ hitmaker was always asking after him to pen more tunes.
He recalled: “In the years that followed, whenever I saw Elvis, he’d cross the room just to say hello to me – no matter who was with him. After he died, I heard he’d always asked the guys in the studio, ‘Did Mark send me any more songs?’ Golly, I wish I had known that.”
Mark was born Francis Zambon – but changed his name after being told it wouldn’t get him far in the music business.
He also penned ‘The Eyes Of A New York Woman’ and ‘Hooked On A Feeling’ for BJ Thomas’ album ‘On My Way’, the late singer best known for the classic tune ‘Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head’.
