Dua Lipa hails Glastonbury as a ‘dream come true’

OHMYGOSSIP — Dua Lipa has hailed her Glastonbury performance as a “massive dream come true”.
The 28-year-old pop star took to the Pyramid stage on Friday night (28.06.24), and Dua admitted that it was the realisation of a long-held dream.
The ‘New Rules’ himaker – who performed for 1 hour 45 minutes – told the crowd: “Wow, Glastonbury!
“It’s a lot to take in. Can we put the house lights on? I want to see everybody … Oh man, this is a massive, massive dream come true for me.”
Dua revealed that headlining Glastonbury was actually a goal that she set herself many years ago.
The singer said: “When I wrote it down I was very specific. I said I wanted to headline the Pyramid Stage on a Friday … because then I knew I could party for the next two days in the best place on Earth!”
Dua confessed to being in a state to disbelief, as she looked out at the huge crowd on Worthy Farm.
The London-born star shared: “I can’t believe I’m right up here, right here with you guys.”
Dua also thanked her fans for their support, and acknowledged that headlining the festival was the “maddest night” of her life.
She said: “This has been the maddest night of my life. A dream come true.
“People as far as I can see. Thank you.”
Dua’s set featured some of her best-known hits, such as ‘Training Season’, ‘One Kiss’, ‘Houdini’ and ‘Illusion’, while at one point, she was joined on stage by Kevin Parker of Tame Impala, as they performed ‘The Less I Know the Better’.
Earlier this year, meanwhile, Dua admitted that she was thinking about her Glastonbury performance “all the time”.
Speaking to the BBC, Dua shared: “I think about it all the time.
“50 percent of my thoughts go to Glastonbury, then the rest are for everyday tasks.”

Smokey Robinson won’t retire

OHMYGOSSIP — Smokey Robinson has insisted retirement “didn’t work” for him.
The 84-year-old music legend took a year out from his performing career in 1972 to focus on his family life and executive role at Motown but admitted that was more than enough for him because he is so passionate about music and nothing gives him the same buzz he gets from being on stage.
He told People magazine: “I tried retiring one time and it didn’t work for me, man.
“I’m living my impossible childhood dream. I’m doing what I love, and it’s a blessing…
“[The thrill I get] is the fact that I’m still doing it…I try retiring and nothing matches it for me. Nothing gives me that same thing as being on stage and being with people and having a good time.”
The ‘Tracks of my Tears’ feels lucky to have grown up surrounded by music.
He said: “I love music, and I always have, before I even knew that I was ever going to have a career. Fortunately for me, I grew up in a home where there was always music. I grew up in a music home.
“I had two older sisters and my mom, and they were always playing music — blues, gospel, jazz, classical, everything. I grew up with a great dose of music, and I’ve always loved music. Music is very, very, very essential through my life and in my life. So yeah, man, I’m a music lover!”
Smokey believes always knowing his limits and not partying too hard has contributed to his longevity.
He said: “When you’re in show business, people think that that’s all you do: you’re in show business and your party and that’s it, and that’s your whole life is partying.
“Invariably, somebody would come backstage when I was doing it after the shows and say, ‘OK, Smokey, now where’s the party?’ I would tell them, ‘I just had the party! I just had the party for two hours.
“That was a party to me. I was having a great time, so I just had the party. Now, I’m going back to my hotel room and watch some TV and fall asleep.'”

Nicole Scherzinger found Pussycat Dolls ‘very difficult

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicole Scherzinger had a “very difficult” time in Pussycat Dolls.
The 46-year-old star – who was the group’s lead singer from 2003 to 2010 and the figurehead of the group – is “really proud” of the fact the band sold 55 million records but admitted her stint with the ‘Don’t Cha’ hitmakers was “profoundly overwhelming”.
She told the Times magazine: “The Dolls, it was a profoundly overwhelming experience, right?
“I’m really proud of the music that the Dolls made, and I’m very proud of the little mark that we made with our group. But it was very difficult, because I was really learning about myself along the way.”
Nicole admitted being viewed as a sex symbol made her more insecure and she was uncomfortable in the group’s skimpy costumes.
She said: “In the beginning, that was my biggest issue.
“The other girls were dancers first. So as dancers, you dance modern, and when you’re in class you’re pretty much dressed in underwear.
“A dancer’s body is the instrument; it’s beautiful. That’s the art.
“But I was a singer first. It was difficult for me in the beginning because I didn’t feel comfortable in my skin.”
The ‘Poison’ singer found life in the band particularly hard because they were constantly pushed to their limits and suffered a lack of sleep.
She said: “It was such a difficult time, struggling and battling your own demons and issues and always being on the road, and they never allowed sleep in our schedule.
“I mean, it was just a recipe for disaster, to be honest with you.
“It’s a lot different now. They have rules set in place and, you know, it’s more of a woke community now.
“But it wasn’t like that when we were doing it. It was just kind of like, ‘Work them to the bone until they’re passed out.’ It was just hard for me to sleep. I always had sleeping issues.”
Nicole’s fiance Thom Evans has been “reprogramming” her brain to help her rest.
She said: “He’s kind of reprogramming my mind and helping me try to sleep more. I’m loving sleep now.”

Suki Waterhouse’s ‘brave’ debut album

OHMYGOSSIP — Suki Waterhouse says releasing her debut album was the “bravest thing I’ve ever done”.
The 32-year-old model and actress dropped her first album ‘I Can’t Let Go’ in 2022 and now as she prepares to release the follow up ‘Memoir Of A Sparklemuffin’ in September, Suki is reflecting on how she felt about her first foray into music.
She told NME: “The first record I did, I had so much to prove, and I kept it one world specifically because I was just putting my toe in and being like, ‘Is this even acceptable? Am I even allowed to do this?’ Putting that record together was the bravest thing I’ve ever done in a lot of ways. Everything since has been like an insane rollercoaster.
“I would have been so happy just making one record – that was the biggest dream ever for a decade. So everything from here just feels like, ‘I’m just going to have fun and do whatever I want’.”
And, Suki admitted she has been more adventurous with her second album.
She said: “I was definitely advised not to put 18 songs [on it] – I wanted to put more! You only get to put out a record every couple of years and I’m in such a place where it’s so enjoyable to be in the studio, collaborate with new people and have other new people be interested in working with me. I just want to write as much music as possible, and I think listening to full albums is back, so I believed it was the right thing to do for the fans.”

Serge Pizzorno hails Kasabian’s Glastonbury gig as a ‘great day’

OHMYGOSSIP — Serge Pizzorno hailed Kasabian’s secret set at Glastonbury as one of the “greatest days” in the band’s history.
The 43-year-old star and his bandmates took to the Woodsies Stage on Saturday (29.06.24), as the group performed some of their best-known hits.
After taking to the stage, Serge told the crowd: “Glastonbury … how the f*** are you? Several million years has brought us to this moment!”
Kasabian first appeared at the festival 20 years ago, and Serge admitted that their latest appearance represented a landmark moment for the award-winning band.
He said: “This is one of the greatest days in this band’s history.”
Kasabian’s set list included ‘Club Foot’, ‘Ill Ray (The King)’, ‘Underdog’, ‘Shoot The Runner’ and ‘You’re In Love With A Psycho’. The group also performed their latest singles, ‘Call’ and ‘Coming Back To Me Good’, which will feature on Kasabian’s new album.
Meanwhile, prior to taking to the stage, Serge admitted that he still has a “childlike innocence” towards his music.
The singer told the Guardian newspaper: “When I started writing music it was pure instinct.
“I still try to keep that childlike innocence, as well as feeling the benefits of not giving a f*** as much because I’m more experienced. I’ll always try to blow people’s minds with music, and I’m excited about the phases I’ve yet to go through. Forever moving on, forever curious.”
What’s more, Serge admitted that he still loves the thrill of performing live.
He said: “When the crowd is wild, you absorb it. Suddenly it’s over and you’re backstage and think: ‘What the hell is this? This adrenaline is not going anywhere.’ I’ve started to do ice baths. It’s the closest I’ve come to shocking it out of my system.”

Michael J. Fox appears alongside Coldplay at Glastonbury

OHMYGOSSIP — Coldplay were joined on stage by Michael J. Fox for their Glastonbury gig.
The 63-year-old actor – who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in the early 90s – appeared on stage during the band’s spectacular outro at Worthy Farm on Saturday night (29.06.24).
Chris Martin, the band’s lead singer, introduced Michael as a “legend”, before the Hollywood star played a guitar alongside Coldplay and a huge support cast of backing singers.
Chris said: “The main reason why we’re in a band is because of watching ‘Back to the Future’, so thank you to our hero forever and one of the most amazing people on Earth, Mr Michael J. Fox. Thank you so much, Michael.”
Chris, 47, also paid a glowing tribute to festival founder Sir Michael Eavis.
He sang: “To Michael, we just want to thank you/ as humans go you’re the best of all sorts/ you’re a musical charmer, you’re the world’s greatest farmer, who ever got knighted wearing shorts.”
Prior to that, Chris hailed the Glastonbury crowd as the most “most peace-loving” and “fun-giving” audience.
He told the crowd: “We’re going to show everybody watching on TV why the Glastonbury audience is the most peace-loving, love-making, fun-giving, accepting, non-judgemental, wonderful group of talented, brilliant humans that can sing in tune.”
Chris also embraced the experience of performing for such a huge audience.
The award-winning star – who sang many of the band’s best-known hits, including ‘Yellow’ and ‘Higher Power’ – said: “I look around and I just see amazing, wonderful people from all over the place and that’s what makes Glastonbury the greatest city on Earth.
“Thank you, all of you who have been waiting down here at the front for hours. It’s amazing that none of you had to pee.
“And then thank you everybody in the middle of the field for playing that role, we see you. And then at the back of the field, five time zones away, at the back of Glastonbury – maybe the most important engine room in the world.
“We welcome everybody all the way at the back in their wellington boots. Thank you for all your flags and the singing and everything. This is our favourite thing to do on Earth, so thank you for letting us do it.”

Nick Cave’s hopes for his kids

OHMYGOSSIP — Nick Cave wants his children to “grow into somewhat better versions of” him.
The 66-year-old musician has suffered a great deal of grief over the past decade, losing his 15-year-old son Arthur in 2015 and his 31-year-old son Jethro in 2022, but Nick – who also has sons Luke, 33, from his marriage to his first wife, Viviane Carneiro and Earl, 24, with spouse Susie Cave – revealed his hopes that his children will continue to do their “bit to improve the world”.
Writing on his blog, ‘The Red Hand Files’, in which he responds to questions from fans, Nick said: “One of the enduring privileges of advanced parenthood is finally being able to abandon any attempt to live up to the impossible standards set by our children. Instead, we lean back and fall unapologetically into our obsolescence. We understand that we are what we are and hope our children grow into somewhat better versions of ourselves. We feel we have done our bit to improve the world and pray that our children will continue to do so. We also hope that we have raised our children to be strong enough to withstand the generational contempt that will almost certainly come their way when they, in turn, have their own children.”
Nick also revealed that he and his sons occasionally disagree but they all try to learn from each other.
He added: “We old people are mostly content to see the world trip and falter toward a more tolerant, inclusive, and merciful version of itself. But we also want it to become less judgemental and sanctimonious, and we pray this is the case as we seek indications of a better world in the actions and opinions of our children. When one of my sons criticises me for holding a view that is a little out of order, or rather less progressive than they would like, I am, on some level, encouraged to see this as evidence that the world is moving in a more positive direction – even as I request they exercise some humility and stop being so self-righteous.”

Chloe Bailey in awe of Beyonce

OHMYGOSSIP — Chloe Bailey is “in awe” of Beyonce.
Chloe and her sister Halle first came to Beyonce’s attention when they uploaded covers of her songs to YouTube and now Beyonce has become a close friend and mentor to them, even signing the pair to her label, Parkwood Entertainment.
Chloe told The Mirror: “I’m constantly in awe of everything that woman does. She’s so smart, and I can only hope to one day leave an ounce of my legacy as she has done hers.”
Chloe, 25, and Halle, 24, launched a YouTube channel at the ages of 11 and 13 respectively, with a cover of Beyoncé’s ‘Best Thing I Never Had’.
Their first video to go viral was a cover of Beyoncé’s ‘Pretty Hurts’ and Chloe insisted she has no regrets about finding fame at a young age.
She said: “YouTube was our decision. When we first did ‘Best Thing I Never Had’, we had to beg our parents to upload it, and they were totally against it. And when we did the cover for ‘Pretty Hurts’, we uploaded it without asking for permission when they were out of the house, and we got in trouble for posting that one. And then it’s like, look what that one did! Sometimes, you’ve got to listen to your kids.
“If I had to give any advice, I would say, don’t push your children too hard because they’re still innocent, pure beings, and love them kindly, unconditionally.”

Eminem’s Tobey to feature Big Sean and Babytron

OHMYGOSSIP — Eminem’s new single ‘Tobey’ will feature Big Sean and Babytron.
The 51-year-old rapper announced the second single off his upcoming album ‘The Death of Slim Shady: (Coup De Grâce)’ will be a collaboration with his fellow Detroit natives.
‘Tobey’ is believed to be a reference to ‘Spider-Man’s Tobey Maguire based on a lyric from the teaser will be accompanied by a video directed by Cole Bennett.
Big Sean raps: “Tobey Maguire got bit by a Spider, but me, see it was a goat.”
Eminem announced the new album during the NFL Draft in April with a ‘Detroit Murder Files’ crime show teaser.
The clip showed a true crime reporter discussing the death of Eminem’s alter ego, Slim Shady, saying: “Through his complex… tongue-twisting rhymes, the anti-hero known as Slim Shady has had no shortage of enemies.”
Frequent collaborator 50 Cent was then seen saying: “He’s not a friend, he’s a psychopath,” before the reporter continued: “The same rude lyrics and controversial antics may have ultimately led to his demise. Join me as we recreate the events that led to the murder of Slim Shady.”
‘Tobey’ is Eminem’s first collaboration with Babytron and fourth with Big Sean.
Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that Eminem is being tipped to headline Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage next year.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “It’s been a long time coming but finally, after years of trying, Emily Eavis could be about to get her wish.
“It’s by no means a done deal but with a successful comeback in motion a huge headline slot next year makes sense.
“I’m sure everyone behind the scenes is willing things to work out.”

Will Smith to debut new song at BET Awards

OHMYGOSSIP — Will Smith is set to perform a brand-new track at the 2024 BET Awards.
The ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ – who is best known for the hits ‘Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It’, ‘Men In Black’ and ‘Wild Wild West’ – released the tune ‘Get Lit’ in 2017, but hasn’t dropped an album since 2005’s ‘Lost and Found’, the same year he last attended the awards ceremony which celebrates black entertainers and other minorities in music, film, sports and philanthropy.
Recently, ‘Lose Control’ hitmaker Teddy Swims revealed he has penned a song with Will, but it’s not known if it’s the track he will debut at the bash.
The ‘Door’ singer has no idea what will happen to his work with the 55-year-old Hollywood star-and-rapper, but he’s in a WhatsApp group with him and his mom, who is a super-fan.
Speaking to NME, Teddy spilled: “I don’t know what’s going to happen with it and can’t confirm anything, but just being with him and learning knowledge and wisdom from someone who’s been through it all was crazy.
“I was at his house and trying to FaceTime my mom because she loves him.
“She didn’t answer but he gave me his number and, the next morning, he texted at 8am saying I could put us all in a group chat.”
The 31-year-old singer was full of praise of the ‘Men in Black’ star – who caused controversy when he slapped comedian Chris Rock, 59, at the Oscars in 2022 – adding: “He’s the sweetest guy ever.”

Sum 41 announces final UK and European tours

OHMYGOSSIP — Sum 41 have announced UK and European dates for their final ever tour.
The ‘Fat Lip’ hitmakers – made up of Deryck Whibley, Dave Baksh, Jason ‘Cone’ McCaslin, Tom Thacker and Frank Zummo – will be bringing their ‘Tour of the Setting Sum’ to arenas in October as they hit the road for the last time.
In a statement, Deryck said: “We are really excited to announce shows in the UK and Europe later this year.
“This forms another leg of our last-ever shows and our fans overseas have been incredible to us over the years, so we can’t wait to put on on the best show of our lives and go out on a high.”
The European leg kicks off on October 21 in Den Bosch, Netherlands, with shows set for Brussels, Caen, Prague, Paris, Budapest, Vienna, Rome and more, with other dates still to be announced.
The UK leg starts on October 26 in Leeds, followed by Glasgow, Manchester, Nottingham and London before the tour comes to an end in Cardiff on November 2.
Support for the UK shows comes from The Bronx, who will also join Sum 41 for certain European gigs, with Neck Deep playing on others.
The ‘In Too Deep’ pop punk legends revealed earlier last year they would be splitting after the release of their eighth album ‘Heaven :x: Hell’ and a farewell world tour.
Announcing their plans to disband, the group wrote at the time: “Being in Sum 41 since 1996 brought us some of the best moments of our lives. We are forever grateful to our fans both old and new, who have supported us in every way.
“It is hard to articulate the love and respect we have for all of you and we wanted you to hear this from us first.”
In December last year, frontman Deryck said he felt “really good” about their latest album, which has given him the closure he needs.
He told NME: “We didn’t know we’d be splitting up when we were making it, but I’ve been making records and touring with this band since I was 15.
“I’ve had this feeling for a long time now that I want to do something different and it just feels like the right time. This album feels like the perfect way to go out.”

S Club tease potential Steps supergroup project

OHMYGOSSIP — S Club and Steps could join forces.
Jon Lee, 42 – who is now joined by Rachel Stevens, 46, Tina Barrett, 47, Bradley McIntosh, 42, and Jo O’Meara, 45, in the ‘Reach For The Stars’ group following the death of Paul Cattermole and the subsequent departure of Hannah Spearritt, 43 – would love to see him and his bandmates form a supergroup with the ‘Deeper Shade of Blue’ band, who formed in 1998 and 1997, respectively.
He told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “S Club and Steps were around at the same time and our anniversary is only a few months apart.
“I’d love to get us all together and do a Steps Club reunion.”
Steps comprises Claire Richards, 46, Lee Latchford-Evans, 49, Lisa Scott-Lee, 48, Faye Tozer, 48, and Ian ‘H’ Watkins, also 48.
The group just played the Isle of Wight Festival, and they are loving pop not being a dirty word anymore.
Tina said of the raucous ’90s festivals: “Back then, festivals were all about rock bands like The Rolling Stones and Oasis.
“Now people are loving pop again. It’s not as embarrassing as it was back then, basically.”
S Club reunited last year, including a show at London’s The O2 arena in front of 20,000 people, which came just months after Paul was tragically found dead aged 46.
Meanwhile, Rachel recently hinted she is set for a solo comeback.
Following a triumphant festival appearance at London’s Mighty Hoopla, she is contemplating resuming her solo career.
She said on ‘The One Show’: “I just did a festival, Hoopla, a couple of weeks ago.
“It was the first time I’ve been back on stage doing my own stuff.
“It just felt amazing, and I had such a brilliant reception.
“It was incredible. I love performing so much, so it’s given me that buzz again to get back up there potentially.
“Who knows? Things are changing all the time.”

Donna Summer’s estate’s Kanye West copyright lawsuit dismissed

OHMYGOSSIP — Kanye West and Donna Summer’s estate have reached an agreement concerning the “illegal” use of ‘I Feel Love’ on the controversial rapper’s ‘Vultures 1’ album.
The ‘Stronger’ hitmaker, 47, used an unauthorised interpolation of the late singer’s 1977 hit ‘I Feel Love’ on ‘Good (Don’t Die)’, which features on his and 42-year-old Ty Dolla $ign’s joint LP, and was released independently by Ye’s YZY brand on February 10, 2024.
The song features the lyrics: “Oh, I’m alive, I’m alive, I’m alive, I’m alive” set to the melody of the classic track from the Queen of Disco, who died in 2012 aged 63.
A statement shared on the Instagram Story of Donna’s account earlier this year read: “Kanye West… asked permission to use Donna Summer’s song I Feel Love, he was denied… he changed the words, had someone re sing it or used AI but it’s I Feel Love… copyright infringement!!!(sic)”
As a result, the pair were hit with a copyright infringement lawsuit by Summer’s widow, Bruce Sudano, who accused them of “shamelessly” re-recording the “instantly recognisable” part of the hit.
After it was recently revealed that a settlement was reached, the case has been dismissed with prejudice. However, no information regarding the settlement has been made public.
Kanye was also hit with a separate copyright claim by Black Sabbath’s Ozzy Osbourne.
The 75-year-old frontman of the legendary heavy metal group accused him of sampling Sabbath classic ‘War Pigs’ on the album without permission.
Ozzy fumed on X: “.@kanyewest ASKED PERMISSION TO SAMPLE A SECTION OF A 1983 LIVE PERFORMANCE OF “WAR PIG” FROM THE US FESTIVAL WITHOUT VOCALS WAS REFUSED PERMISSION BECAUSE HE IS AN ANTISEMITE AND HAS CAUSED UNTOLD HEARTACHE TO MANY. HE WENT AHEAD AND USED THE SAMPLE ANYWAY AT HIS ALBUM LISTENING PARTY LAST NIGHT. I WANT NO ASSOCIATION WITH THIS MAN! (sic).”
His wife and manager, Sharon Osbourne, 71, later added on her own account: “The Osbourne family have never wanted any association with Kanye West. He is an anti-Semitic fool who spews his rhetoric out into the world, Kanye you [messed] with the wrong dude this time. Sincerely, Sharon Osbourne.”
Although Ozzy said permission was requested for ‘War Pigs’, the song he seemed to use at his Chicago listening party was ‘Iron Man’.

Crazy Town’s Shifty Shellshock dead at 49

OHMYGOSSIP — Crazy Town’s Shifty Shellshock has died aged 49.
The ‘Butterfly’ hitmaker – whose birth name was Seth Binzer – is recorded to have passed away on June 24, according to the Los Angeles medical examiner.
No cause of death is known currently.
Back in 2012, Binzer – who battled with substance abuse over the years – was admitted to hospital after losing consciousness and had been in a coma before being released.
The musician recently opened about getting sober and his battle with himself.
He wrote on Instagram eight weeks ago: “I’m a lover than a fighter …but the one I need to love more Instead of fight with is myself .. mr shifty true Love # Sober alive and grateful (sic)”
Binzer struggled with drug addiction for many years and appeared on the reality television series ‘Celebrity Rehab 1’ and 2 and ‘Sober House 1’ and 2.
He met co-frontman Bret Mazur, 53, in 1992, and they first went by the name Brimstone Sluggers.
In 1999, they formed Crazy Town, and a year later they were due to tour as part of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne’s Ozzfest, but Binzer was arrested after he threw a chair out a window while intoxicated.
Released in 2000, noughties classic ‘Butterfly’ topped the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks and was number one in several other countries including Austria, Denmark, and Norway.
It samples ‘Pretty Little Ditty’ from the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ 1989 album ‘Mother’s Milk’, so the group are credited as songwriters.
Their debut album, ‘The Gift of Game’, sold more than 1.5 million copies.
However, after their 2002 follow-up ‘Darkhorse’ was a flop, they parted ways.
They reformed in 2007 and were back on stage in 2009. Their third album, ‘The Brimstone Sluggers’, followed in 2015.
In January 2017, Mazur – who was nicknamed Epic – announced his departure from the band, with Rick Dixon, Nick Diiorio and Kevin Kapler also quitting that April. Binzer then added an “X” next to the band’s name, as it’s “used by gangs to symbolise a territory that has just been won”.
In November 2019, Crazy Town’s tour van crashed into a moose in Ontario, Canada, with members, including Binzer, treated for bruises and cuts at the hospital.
Crazy Town – Binzer, DJ Rick One and Mark White – last toured in 2023 with Hed PEm, the shows went ahead despite a bloody fight between Binzer and the group’s vocalist Bobby Reeves outside a venue in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Binzer also had a solo career and joined forces with British producer and musician Paul Oakenfold to supply the vocals for his 2002 hit ‘Starry Eyed Surprise’.
His debut solo album, ‘Happy Love Sick’, was released in 2004.
He also formed Shifty and The Big Shots in 2010.
Binzer was often in trouble with the law, with crimes including attempted burglary and selling and using recreational drugs.
He has two children, a son named Halo, from his marriage to Melissa Clark. And a son with a woman named Tracy called Gage.
Binzer was in a relationship with Jasmine Lennard in 2010, but police were called to a domestic disturbance between the pair the following year.
In 2022, he started romancing his childhood friend, ‘Punky Brewster’ actress Soleil Moon Frye, 47, when he was arrested for driving under the influence in Los Angeles.

Posthumous final album from the late pop pioneer SOPHIE is on the way

OHMYGOSSIP — A posthumous final album from the acclaimed late experimental pop artist, SOPHIE, completed by the star’s collaborators, is to be released.
The Grammy nominated producer – whose full name was Sophie Xeon – was tragically found dead in January 2021, aged just 34, after an accidental fall in Athens.
More than three years on from the devastating loss, a self-titled album by the visionary music pioneer – who worked with Madonna and Charli XCX – is set to be released on September 27.
SOPHIE had been working on the record – which is a follow-up to 2018’s ‘Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides’ – with some of her “most cherished” peers up until her ultimately passing, and it has been “lovingly finalised by those who hold her closest”, including her studio manager, Benny Long.
A statement from SOPHIE’s family read: “When we, Sophie’s family, took our first steps towards bringing this project to fruition we contacted the dear friends with whom she envisioned the album. We wrote, ‘We have been finding comfort in the music Sophie left us, it is a gift that we truly cherish as we try to find a way forward, with Sophie forever at the centre of our worlds.'”
Fans can expect “a cacophony of skill and creative vision eclipsing time and genre.”
It continued: “Sophie didn’t often speak publicly of her private life, preferring to put everything she wanted to articulate in her music. It feels only right to share with the world the music she hoped to release, in the belief that we can all connect with her in this, the form she loved most.
“This album has always told the story of Sophie’s musical journey, a cacophony of skill and creative vision eclipsing time and genre. Her unique sound world moves at an emotional level, encouraging the listener to intuitively embrace the ever-evolving landscape of light and dark, soft and hard, to the end of self-love and joyful self-acceptance. Emphasising contradictions of sound and material, Sophie’s work supersedes the pure aural to create the dimension she dreamed of.
“Now, it holds another poignant meaning, it tells a life story, from mysterious unknown, through wild clublands, to euphoric immateriality.
“Sophie gave all of herself to her music. It’s here that she can always be found.”
The first track, out now, is ‘Reason Why’ featuring Kim Petras and BC Kingdom.
