OHMYGOSSIP — Tenacious D have paid tribute to The Who with a medley of ‘Tommy’ hits for charity.
The ‘Wonderboy’ comedy rockers – made up of Jack Black and Kyle Gass – have recorded their own mash-up of several tracks from the legendary group’s 1969 iconic rock opera, including the likes of ‘Pinball Wizard’, ‘There’s a Doctor’ and ‘Go To The Mirror!’
The track is available digitally with a seven inch vinyl release to follow, with all proceeds from the vinyl going to Everytown for Gun Safety.
The track has been unveiled alongside a music video directed by the D’s collaborator Liam Lynch, who was at the helm of their 2006 movie ‘The Pick of Destiny’.
In a statement, Tenacious D said: “Who better to deliver a tribute to the greatest rock opera of all times? Who? The D! That’s Who!!
“We’ve been working on this medley for 20 years. It’s finally ready to be unleashed. Crank it. It’s a humdinger. Enjoy. (sic)”
The duo release their most recent studio album ‘Post-Apocalypto’ in 2018, and have continued to drop several singles and one-off songs over the years.
In 2019, they worked with Jack White on ‘Don’t Blow It, Kage’, and the following year they encouraged people to vote as they teamed up with Sarah Silverman, Susan Sarandon, Elizabeth Warren and more for a cover of ‘Time Warp’ from ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’.
Last year, they celebrated the 20th anniversary of their self-titled debut and released a tribute to The Beatles with a cover of ‘You Never Give Me Your Money’ and ‘The End’, which raised money to the Doctors Without Borders charity.
They said at the time: “Tenacious D are paying tribute to the greatest band in the world…not themselves…the Beatles!!!
“In the spirit of healing the world….please enjoy Tenacious D’s mashup of two classics from Abbey Road. (sic)”

OHMYGOSSIP — The Rolling Stones paid tribute to The Beatles by performing ‘I Wanna Be Your Man’ for the first time since 2012 at their Liverpool concert on Thursday night (09.06.22).
Sir Mick Jagger and co were performing in the ‘Here Comes the Sun’ hitmakers’ home city for the first time in more than 50 years at Anfield Stadium, having last played at the legendary Empire Theatre in 1971.
And the ‘Paint it Black’ hitmakers had a special treat in store for fans, as they performed the John Lennon and Sir Paul McCartney-penned hit, which the Stones ended up releasing before The Beatles on November 1, 1963, just weeks ahead of the track being released on the latter’s ‘With The Beatles’ LP.
Frontman Mick, 78, revealed they were planning to cover Liverpool FC anthem ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ by Gerry And The Pacemakers as they were at the football ground, which drew a mixed reaction of boos and cheers from the audience.
He said: “But, we decided instead to do a cover of a song written by some other local lads so we’re doing this especially for you Liverpool, OK?”
Mick, Keith Richards, also 78, and Ronnie Wood, 75, also dedicated the show to late drummer Charlie Watts, who died in 2021 aged 80.
Mick told the crowd: “In 1962 we met a drummer called Charlie Watts and this is our first tour in England we’ve done without him so we’d like to dedicate this show to Charlie.”
Steve Jordan has been performing drums for the band since the legendary sticksman’s passing.
Mick remarked: “It’s great to be back in Liverpool after such a long time. Long time, no see.”
The show was the first of the UK leg of their ‘SIXTY’ anniversary run.
Before the show, Mick visited some famous landmarks, hugged a statue of Liverpool icon Cilla Black and even had a chippy tea.
Alongside photos of himself at the Liver Building, Irish boozer Shenanigans and the Empire, he wrote on Instagram: “I went past The Grapes. I had a chippy.
“I had a look at the Empire. We played there 12 times in the ‘60s – 12 times, I can’t believe it.
“I hugged Cilla Black in Mathew Street. Which is a lot closer than I got to her in real life.”
The ‘Satisfaction’ group are due to perform in Amsterdam on Monday (13.06.22) and they will be back on UK soil for a pair of American Express presents BST Hyde Park shows on June 25 and July 3.

The Grammy winner has released a follow-up to mega-hit ‘About Damn Time’.
On the catchy chorus, the singer chants: “Where my girls, where my girls at?”
It’s the latest taste of the ‘Juice’ hitmaker’s eagerly-awaited fourth studio album ‘Special’.
The ‘Truth Hurts’ singer recently hailed her follow-up to 2019’s Grammy-winning ‘Cuz I Love You’ “bad***”.
Meanwhile, Lizzo is set to be the subject of a new documentary about her rise to superstardom.
The ‘Good as Hell’ hitmaker’s currently untitled film for HBO Max will be helmed by Doug Pray, who was heavily involved in the four-part HBO docu-series ‘The Defiant Ones’ about Dre. Dre and Jimmy Iovine’s rise to the top.
Lizzo’s film will tell “the inspirational story behind her humble beginnings to her meteoric rise with an intimate look into the moments that shaped her hard-earned rise to fame, success, love, and international stardom.”
The chart-topper hopes to inspire aspiring creatives to stick with their dreams by sharing how she powered through the ups and downs on the road to becoming a global superstar.
The 34-year-old musician said: “Growing up I never dreamed I’d get to experience all of the things I’ve accomplished in my life, and I’m just getting started.
“From ‘Cuz I Love You’ to my dramatic world tour, losing and gaining love, and creating my new album ‘Special’, y’all get to see the amount of time, patience, blood, sweat and tears that went into this process. It takes ten years to become an ‘overnight success,’ and hopefully I can inspire other young creatives to keep going.”
The classically-trained flautist recently declared she is worthy of the “attention” she has garnered throughout her career as she has earned it.

Lizzo – whose real name is Melissa Jefferson – believed she had to “blaze a trail” for herself as there was no one like her on the music scene.

OHMYGOSSIP — SZA has released seven previously unheard songs on the deluxe edition of ‘Ctrl’.
To mark the 5th anniversary of the singer’s acclaimed 2017 debut studio album, the ‘Good Days’ hitmaker has dropped the tracks ‘2AM,’ ‘Miles,’ ‘Percolator,’ ‘Tread Carefully,’ ‘Awkward,’ and ‘Jodie’, plus an alternative version of hit ‘Love Galore’.
Earlier this week, the 32-year-old star teased on Twitter: “Unreleased songs from 2017 to celebrate 5 .. me thinks.”
The release comes as it was revealed that ‘Ctrl’ “has now spent 5 full years on the Billboard 200. It has never left the chart.”
Responding to a tweet by Chart Data, SZA wrote: “Thank y’all and thank GOD.”
Marking the release, SZA – whose real name is Solana Imani Rowe – wrote: “This is JUST a gift for camp ctrl . Nothing more nothing less.”
The ‘Kiss Me More’ singer also thanked her loyal fanbase for changing her life.
She later added: “if u family you get it . 5 yrs is a long time . Thank you for changing my life I love you . Happy anniversary #HAPPYCTRLANNIVERSARY (sic)”
In August last year, SZA surprised her fans by sharing three new tracks on SoundCloud.
The singer discretely dropped ‘Nightbird’, ‘I Hate You’ and ‘Joni’ on an unnamed page on the music sharing platform.
SZA confirmed on Twitter that they are her songs by linking the account.
She wrote: “dumping random thoughts. (sic)”
The tracks emerged after the star performed a new song called ‘Shirt’ during a live-streamed gig in July 2021.
SZA previously admitted she hopes her fans will be “pleasantly surprised” by her long-awaited follow-up to ‘Ctrl’, which is due out this summer.
She said: “I think they’ll be surprised to know that it’s not what they thought, and it’s not coming when they thought.
“I hope that they’ll be pleasantly surprised.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Johnny Depp is teaming up with close pal Jeff Beck on the forthcoming album, ’18’.
The Hollywood actor has been on the road performing with the legendary musician and celebrating the result of his defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard, which saw him awarded $15 million in damages.
Depp and Beck have been friends since 2016, and the album has been in the making since 2019.
It includes “Depp originals along with a wide range of covers that touches on everything from Celtic and Motown, to the Beach Boys and Killing Joke.”
Beck said in a statement: “When Johnny and I started playing together, it really ignited our youthful spirit and creativity. We would joke about how we felt 18 again, so that just became the album title too.”
At the duo’s shows, they have been performing their rendition of John Lennon classic ‘Isolation’, which is included on the digital and CD version of the LP.
The 13-tracker includes Depp’s original track, ‘This Is A Song For Miss Hedy Lamarr’, which he sought approval of the estate of late Austrian-born American actress Hedy Lamarr before releasing, and is out now.
Depp asked Beck to play lead guitar on the ode to the ‘Dishonored Lady’ star, and the rest is history.
Becks said: “I was blown away by it.
“That song is one of the reasons I asked him to make an album with me.”
The other Depp original is ‘Sad Mother*****’ Parade’.
Hollywood Vampires rocker Depp remarked: “It’s an extraordinary honour to play and write music with Jeff, one of the true greats and someone I am now privileged enough to call my brother.”
Beck hopes the album will make people take the ‘Chocolat’ star “seriously as a musician”.
The 77-year-old guitar god added: “I haven’t had another creative partner like him for ages.
“He was a major force on this record. I just hope people will take him seriously as a musician because it’s a hard thing for some people to accept that Johnny Depp can sing rock and roll.”
’18’ will be available on CD and digitally, with a 180-gram black vinyl version on September 30. The cover features an illustration of Beck and Depp when they were both 18 and is drawn and designed by Beck’s wife Sandra.
Beck has launched a European tour, with 59-year-old Depp as special guest, which will conclude on July 25 at L’Olympia in Paris.
Away from his Hollywood career, Depp is known for his band The Hollywood Vampires, with Alice Cooper and Aerosmith’s Joe Perry.
Beck played guitar on their track ‘Welcome To Bushwackers’ from their 2019 LP ‘Rise’.

OHMYGOSSIP — BTS have released their anthology album ‘Proof’, including the new single ‘Yet To Come (The Most Beautiful Moment)’.
The K-Pop megastars – comprising RM, Jin, J-Hope, V, Suga, Jimin and Jungkook – have consolidated the past nine years of their career into a 48-track, three-disc compilation, including all their hits and previously unheard demo versions of their tracks as a group and solo.
The likes of ‘ON’, ‘Boy with Luv’ featuring Halsey, ‘Butter’ and ‘Dynamite’ are all included, plus three new songs, ‘Yet To Come’, ‘For Youth’ and ‘Run BTS’.
The septet paid careful consideration to the order of the tracks as it runs like a biography.
RM said: “I always get nervous when we release a new song for the first time. I hope many people like it.
“‘Proof’ is a special album that wraps up Chapter 1 of BTS’s story as we face the ninth anniversary of our debut. As the focus of the album is our message for our fans who have been together with us for the past nine years, we paid the most attention to our lyrics.”
Jin said: “Because ‘Proof’ is an album that encapsulates BTS’ history, it keeps bringing to mind different memories from the past nine years. I myself will be listening to it often.
“Because there are new songs and unreleased songs on the album, fans will be able to enjoy listening to it as well.”
Suga commented: “Because it’s an album that encapsulates BTS’s history, we paid careful attention to how the songs were organised on the album. If you listen to the album starting from the first track, there’ll be a certain fun in listening to it [in order].
“It’s an honour to be able to capture our journey of the past nine years in this new album ‘Proof.’ I hope that those listening to the album will follow and walk along with our footprints one more time.”

OHMYGOSSIP — N-Dubz have shared their first music video in 11 years.
Reunited trio Tulisa, Dappy and Fazer – who went on an indefinite hiatus in 2011 – recently returned with their new single, ‘Charmer’, and they’ve now shared the promo to go with it.
Since announcing their comeback, with an extensive UK arena tour confirmed for this November and December, the ‘Ouch’ hitmakers’ Greatest Hits album re-entered the Official Charts Top 10 Album Chart.
And ‘Charmer’ is currently sat at number 32 in the UK Official Charts Top 40.
Due to demand after the first lot of shows sold-out swiftly, the group added several more dates to their ‘The Back To The Future Tour’, and have sold 230,000 tickets so far.
Their first tour in just over decade kicks off in Newcastle on November 7, and wraps at London’s The O2 arena on December 6.
Before making their comeback in May, Fazer – whose real name is Richard Rawson – teased the ‘I Need You’ group had always planned to get back together “at some point”.
He said in March: “We never said that we would never get back together, we always said we would at some point – it’s just about time.
“We never said it was off the cards we always said it’s going to come back at some point.
“Right now there’s a lot of sceptical stuff, but we will bring it back at some point.”

OHMYGOSSIP — George Ezra says it was “unnecessary” to censor the word “die” in ‘Green Green Grass’ for his performance at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee concert.
The ‘Budapest’ hitmaker played his hit single at Buckingham Palace this past weekend at the celebration concert to mark Queen Elizabeth’s 70-year reign, and fans were quick to pick up on the change in lyric.
George should have sung: “Green green grass, blue blue sky, you better throw a party on the day that I die.”
But he’s now revealed why he was asked to omit the word “die”.
He told The Sun newspaper: “I think the reaction to it has kind of worked in our favour to say it was unnecessary.
“My gut instinct was that you don’t need to change it.
“I don’t know if it came from the royals or the producers of the show, but it’s pretty obvious that if you’re playing for the Royal Family and the powers that be say, ‘We don’t want you to sing that lyric,’ then you’re not going to argue.”
The ‘Shotgun’ singer insists the song is meant to be about celebrating life.
George laughed: “I’m not demanding anybody does anything on the day that I’ve passed away.
“It’s a song about celebrating life. And it feels good when you sing it.
“We felt it was a special song when we were producing it.
“There was a moment when we looked at each other. We were excited about it.
“It was a good sign and the response to it has been amazing.”
‘Green Green Grass’ is on George’s latest LP, ‘Gold Rush Kid’, out now.
Three albums in, George has never been happier or more comfortable in his career.
Though he admits it’s not always easy in the “intense” music industry, he knows when to “have a word” with himself when he starts worrying over small things.
He said: “I have the best job in the world. But there are parts about it that I find difficult.
“And there are a lot of things that are full-on about it. I didn’t really want to quit music.
“It’s just that I approached it in this intense, mainstream way and there was a moment where I thought, ‘Why am I doing this?’
“It causes a lot of stress in your life. But I’ve realised it doesn’t have to be so full-on.
“When I sat back, listened to this album and looked at the artwork, then I’m so proud and I know I need to go out and let people know this album exists.
“When it gets intense now I just have a word with myself, pull myself up on my bull**** and I forget the things I worry about.
“Then I see that I get to travel and perform music and that’s a beautiful thing.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Ava Max is set to close Pride in London.
The LGBTQ+ event is set to return on Saturday, July 2, with a host of artists set to perform across four stages in Central London, and the ‘Sweet But Psycho’ hitmaker has been announced as the closing act at Trafalgar Square.
The 2022 edition marks the 50th anniversary of the first Pride march in 1972.
As well as the Trafalgar Square stage, performers will play in Leicester Square, Golden Square and the Soho Stage.
The lineup also includes Emeli Sandé, Samantha Mumba, former ‘Eurovision’ winner Netta and ‘Vampire Diaries’ alum and singer Kat Graham.
Plus ‘Drag Race’ stars The Vivienne, Lawrence Chaney, Tia Kofi and many more.
The Pride parade itself “traces the original route from 1972”.
A press release notes that: “In line with the Proud of Pride pledge, organisers have worked to give prominence to members of all genders, sexualities, and heritages, making space for all parts of London’s rich diversity.”
Emeli’s performance comes after she recently came out and confirmed he relationship with her pianist girlfriend, Yoana Karemova.
The 35-year-old singer gushed that she was “happier than ever” after sharing the news.
The ‘Next to Me’ singer said: “We met through music. And I definitely feel happier than ever. It feels great.
“For me, true love and having love in your life makes everything fit into place.”
When asked if this means she is bisexual, Emeli replied: “I’m not sure what I identify as but I guess so. I just feel like I should fall in love with whoever I fall in love with.”

OHMYGOSSIP — UB40 featuring Ali Campbell paid tribute to late band member Astro as they performed at Hampton Court Palace Festival 2022 in London on Thursday night (09.06.22).
The legendary reggae group kicked off the festival in spectacular style with an incredible set which featured hits such as ‘(I Can’t Help) Falling In Love With You’ and ‘Kingston Town’.
A special moment occurred when Ali, 63, sang ‘Red Red Wine’ and included a recording of Astro’s famous rap, which features the lyrics “red red wine you make me feel so fine / You keep me rocking all of the time”. The band implored the crowd to cheer for the late musician, and the fans duly obliged.
Astro – whose real name was Terence Oswald Wilson – passed away in November 2021 at the age of 64 after a “very short illness”. He played percussion, trumpet and sang and rapped in UB40.
Speaking before the Hampton Court Palace Festival show and ahead of a series of concerts performed in memory of Astro earlier in 2022, Ali admitted it would be hard for him to get back on stage without his long-time friend with him.
He said: “It’s going to be incredibly difficult without Astro by my side. But, remembering Astro, let the music play on.”
Other highlights from the concert included ‘Many Rivers to Cross’ – a Jimmy Cliff cover that featured on UB40’s acclaimed 1983 ‘Labour of Love’ LP – ‘Cherry Oh Baby’ and a reggae version of Prince’s iconic ballad ‘Purple Rain’.
The band’s encore opened with ‘Food for Thought’ – which featured on their 1980 debut album ‘Signing Off’ – and ended with fan favourite ‘Red Red Wine’ which garnered a mass sing-a-long and saw everyone get out of their seats and dance.
UB40 featuring Ali Campbell were the first act to take the stage for this year’s Hampton Court Palace Festival and other acts still to perform include George Benson, The Human League, Jack Savoretti, Crowded House, Elbow, McFly, Ministry Of Sound Classical, Kacey Musgraves and Michael Ball and Alfie Boe.
Hampton Court Palace Festival is a series of truly special and unique open-air concerts. OHMYGOSSIP — The 1975 have earmarked July 7 as a “significant date for the band” ahead of the release of their fifth studio album.
Matt Healy and co have released two new photos, taken by collaborator Samuel Bradley, and teased fans about the follow-up to 2020’s ‘Notes on a Conditional Form’.
The pictures are captioned on social media: “Your new album. Your new era. Your old friends. The 1975.”
The latest teasers come after The 1975 deleted their social media profiles and website in preparation for their new era.
The band are set to make their live comeback at Japan’s Summer Sonic festival in August.
The ‘Chocolate’ group will headline the festival in Tokyo and Osaka on August 20 and 21, following a two-year break from the road.
Summer Sonic – which takes place at Tokyo’s Zozomarine Stadium and Osaka’s Maishima Sonic Park – will also see performances from the likes of Post Malone, Megan Thee Stallion, Yungblud and Maneskin.
Meanwhile, frontman Matt, 33, previously revealed that being forced to take a break from touring amid the Covid-19 pandemic had been good for the band.
He wrote in a letter to fans: “Hello to all my darling The 1975 fans!! I do hope you are all well, considering how difficult things have been this year. It’s Matty here. I’ve been daydreaming about playing shows today – and although we definitely needed a break, I can’t tell you how much we miss spending those evenings with you guys.
“I think it’s fair to say that we maybe bit off slightly more than we could chew when it came to doing two full albums back to back. I don’t think the records suffered – if anything I think it gave them a strange energy and the last two records happen to be my favourites – but it definitely took its toll on us as individuals. It was wicked tho, beautiful! Like being beaten up by a magical unicorn!
“We had been either on tour or in the studio for nearly 8 years straight or some s*** – and I think that jolt that we ALL felt (globally) back in March as COVID-19 impacted all our lives provided us with a moment to reflect on stuff. (sic).

OHMYGOSSIP — George Ezra’s new album is his “most personal” yet.
The ‘Green Green Grass’ singer – who suffers from a form of OCD and has been open about his struggles with anxiety – has admitted his two previous records, 2014’s ‘Wanted on Voyage’ and 2018’s ‘Staying at Tamara’s’, contained stories he’d “pinched” from other people, but ‘Gold Rush Kid’, which is released on June 10, is the truest reflection of the real George.
Speaking to OK! Magazine, he said: “With the first and second records, I could just pinch other people’s stories and be the bubbly kid that writes about travelling around Europe.
“This is without a doubt my most personal album.
“It’s the record I hear myself on the most.”
Instead of travelling abroad, George found himself staying in a camper van on a friend’s farm amid the pandemic, after suffering from loneliness while living alone in the London flat he had shared with his ex-girlfriend Florence Arnold.
He recalled: “For the first five weeks, I was able to convince myself It was an experience.
“Then one day I just woke up and I knew I had to get out.
“It wasn’t good for me to be alone much longer.
“So I got this camper van on to my friend’s farm and I lived there for a further six weeks.
“It was a heatwave and there were dogs that needed walking, fields that needed mowing … We almost lived in paradise – if there wasn’t this undercurrent of anxiety.”
The track ‘Being Alive’ on the album deals with that loneliness and wanting to meet someone, and George admits he would have “censored”
himself from “writing that kind of emotion” in the past.
George had threatened to quit music in 2020 and admitted he felt the pressure to maintain his success.
He said: “With the first album, I felt like a chancer and had no expectations.
“It was just fun.
“With the second, I realised there was something to lose so I really pushed myself to continue operating at that level.
“There’s a healthy amount of stress and pressure, but I used to overindulge it.”
That’s when he’d get intrusive thoughts and it kept him awake at night.
George added: “I lived constantly feeling intimated and overwhelmed.
“If I had a negative thought, I’d keep going back to the thought … it really affected my sleep.
“I’d be awake at 4am most nights.
“It became a terrible cycle.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Keith Richards says The Rolling Stones’ longevity comes down to still wanting be in a band together.
The ‘Start Me Up’ rockers kicked off their ‘SIXTY’ anniversary tour at Atletico Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano stadium in Spain on Wednesday night (01.06.22), and the guitar legend has reflected on why he thinks the Stones have stuck it out for six decades.
He told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Life’s just too interesting to die. Anything I wanted to do had to be done — I couldn’t slack off. And hey, there was just an awful lot of cocaine involved.
“Sixty years is a hell of a long time. How do you do that?
“I think the most important thing is that the people in the band want to stay together. That helps!
“We had our ups and downs, of course. But in the end we always noticed that we are more creative together.
“And, of course, across these — my God! — six decades, you have got used to each other.
“The special thing about being part of a well-rehearsed group is knowing the others so well that you can predict up to a certain point what is going to happen next.”
The epic opening night saw Sir Mick Jagger, 78, Ronnie Wood,75, Keith and 65-year-old drummer Steve Jordan power through the 19-song set list with ease.
A special tribute to late sticksman Charlie Watts, who died aged 80 in 2021, started the show with a video montage played during ‘Street Fighting Man’.
Frontman Mick, 78, recently admitted he misses his late bandmate every time he hits the stage or rehearses.
He said: “I don’t really expect him to be there any more if I turn round during a show. But I do think about him. Not only during rehearsals or on stage, but in other ways too. I would have phoned him up and talked about last night’s Arsenal game because he supported Tottenham and I’m Arsenal. I miss him as a player and as a friend.”
Around the halfway point of the jaunt, the ‘Paint it Black’ band will play two nights at London’s American Express presents BST Hyde Park on June 25 and July 3.
The run concludes in Stockholm, Sweden on July 31.

OHMYGOSSIP — The Wanted have cancelled their first gig since Tom Parker’s death.
The boy band member tragically died aged 33 on March 30, 17 months after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour.
The ‘Glad You Came’ hitmakers were due to perform at the Ladies Day event at Newcastle Racecourse on July 23, but they’ve shelved the performance as they are still coming to terms with the devastating loss of their friend.
In a social media statement, Max George, Nathan Sykes, Jay McGuiness and Siva Kaneswaran said: “After some reflection, and with a heavy heart, we can confirm that we will no longer be performing at the Live After Racing event scheduled to take place at Newcastle Racecourse on 23rd July.
“It is just over 2 months since we lost Tom and as much as we love performing live, it is just far too soon for us to even think about being on stage again as The Wanted.
“We are all still processing the events of the last few months and need to take this time out for reflection.
“We are so sorry to let anyone down and thank you for your understanding and support.
“We will see you all soon x.”
Earlier this week, Max admitted he still texts his late bandmate two months after his death.
Speaking on ‘This Morning’, he said: “I’m still trying to process it (Tom’s death). I still text him actually. If I get pictures or stuff that fans have made with him in it or they send a nice message to do with Tom, I’ll WhatsApp it to him.
“I just find a bit of comfort in that. The worst bit is when I’m not doing it and I do it accidentally. Sometimes I go to do it and I’m like, ‘Oh no’.”

OHMYGOSSIP — The Killers joked they were staging a “super-spreader” event as they finally took to the stage in Middlesbrough on Wednesday (01.06.22) night.
The ‘Mr. Brightside’ hitmakers had originally been due to play the Riverside Stadium in 2020 but the gig was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and after bursting onto the stage with a shower of confetti, frontman Brandon Flowers reflected on the last two years.
He said: “Covid ushered in a lot of uncertainty, it forced a lot of isolation. But Middlesbrough take a look around you, ain’t nobody isolating tonight.
“This is a super-spreader event. We’re spreading peace, we’re spreading love, and we’re spreading rock ‘n’ roll!”
As the packed-out crowd danced and sang along to hits including ‘Jenny Was A Friend of Mine’, ‘Human’ – accompanied by a striking visual of dozens of dancers in tiny squares projected onto the big screens – ‘Smile Like You Mean It’, and ‘For Reasons Unknown’, Brandon was particularly delighted to spot a cardboard cutout of Queen Elizabeth in the crowd, in reference to the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
He quipped: “We were raised on The Smiths so we thought she was dead. I’m pleased to hear she’s alive.”
As well as their well-known cover of Joy Division’s ‘Shadowplay’, the band also treated fans to their take on ‘The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face’, one of the few subdued moments in a high-energy set packed with confetti cannons, streamer showers, and dazzling lasers.
After ending with lively versions of ‘All These Things That I’ve Done’ and ‘Caution’, it’s no surprise the crowd were desperate for more and the group didn’t disappoint, returning to the stage for an energetic performance of ‘Spaceman’ before an electro version of ‘Mr. Brightside’ had the crowd ripped into a fever before segueing into an explosive full version for the finale.
Support from the evening came from Manic Street Preachers, who delighted the crowd with a career-spanning set taking in early hits including ‘Motorcycle Emptiness’, ‘From Despair To Where’ and ‘You Love Us’, through to classics such as ‘Design For Life’ and closer ‘If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next’, and a version of last year’s single ‘Orwellian’.

OHMYGOSSIP — Remy Ma thought she was being complimentary about Doja Cat when she claimed she’s not a rapper.
The 42-year-old star irked fans of the ‘Juicy’ hitmaker earlier this year, when she argued that Doja shouldn’t be considered a rap artist.
Speaking to Black Compass, Remy explained: “I thought I was giving [her] a compliment. Her whole entourage or fan base came for my life. I was like, ‘I thought I said something good!'”
Remy angered fans in March when she questioned Doja being nominated in the rap categories at the Grammy Awards.
She said at the time: “I don’t think she’s a rapper. Let’s be clear with that. They put her in the rapper category, I don’t think she’s a rapper. But she makes dope records, and I think she’s dope.”
Meanwhile, Doja recently voiced her admiration for Nicki Minaj, admitting she still looks towards the rap star for inspiration and guidance.
She explained: “I think her as a businesswoman really inspired me.
“The way Nicki can carry herself felt almost alien to me, because I was kind of a little runty kid, trapped in her room, just watching YouTube videos. And back then I was like, ‘Damn, that’s dope.'”
Doja – whose real name is Amala Dlamini – also recognises the importance of being authentic with her fans.
She shared: “There’s no formula to win, but I think there’s a formula to lose.
“If you don’t believe in what you’re doing, people aren’t stupid – they’re going to pick up on that real quick. You just have to believe in yourself. It really sounds like some s*** out of ‘The SpongeBob Movie’, but it’s true.”
