Chaka Khan drops powerful ballad Woman Like Me

OHMYGOSSIP — Chaka Khan has released her “hardcore real” new single, ‘Woman Like Me’.
The 69-year-old singer says she was drawn to the fiery track because it speaks to “both sexes”.
She said of the power ballad: “When I heard it, I was like, ‘Wow. I could’ve wrote this. I should have written this.”
“It’s talking to girls right now. Men and women, right now.
“And when you can find a song that can talk to both sexes equally, you know … and this song does. It’s like a woman talking to a man.”
She added: “This song is more meat-and-potatoes and to the point. You know, it’s hardcore. It’s more ‘hardcore real’ reality. And that’s what attracted me to the song.”
Chaka’s last studio album was 2019’s ‘Hello Happiness’.
Last summer, she featured on Todrick Hall’s album ‘Femuline’ on the track ‘Fabulosity’.
The Queen of Funk also opened up about touring and how she had to design her own “comfortable” stage outfits to keep performing.
In an interview with ‘Good Day Atlanta’, she said: “I had to go back there because I was not happy with what I felt was expected of an entertainer today.
“I just want to be comfortable right now. I’m trying to stay on stage, and not fall off the stage!”
Meanwhile, the ‘I Feel For You’ hitmaker previously ruled out working with Ariana Grande again.
The music legend – who is not afraid to tell it how it is – collaborated with the 29-year-old pop star in 2019 on the track ‘Nobody’ for the ‘Charlie’s Angels’ reboot soundtrack but Chaka won’t be the repeating the experience in the future.
She said in 2020: “F*** that. She’s all right, she’s good on her own. Plus, I don’t want to sing with another woman. I ain’t got nothing to say with a woman.
“And we ain’t gonna talk about no man, we ain’t gonna talk about none of that stuff. It’s not happening. I’m not gonna do no song with no heifer.”

Mel C teases Spiceworld anniversary plans

OHMYGOSSIP — Mel C has promised there will be “big celebrations” for ‘Spiceworld’ this year.
The ‘Stop’ hitmaker and her former Spice Girls bandmates Mel B, Geri Horner, Emma Bunton and Victoria Beckham will mark the 25th anniversary of their movie and accompanying album in the coming months and the 48-year-old singer has teased there’s something special in the pipeline.
She said: “Obviously we’ve got the anniversary of the song and film, so let’s just say we’ve been in talks with Universal, the label that produced our first film…
“I don’t want to get into trouble for spilling the beans on a big secret!
“But there will be big celebrations in the coming months, I can tell you that.”
Though they haven’t performed as a quintet since 2012 after Victoria opted not to join in their 2019 reunion tour, Mel – who has 13-year-old daughter Scarlet with former partner Thomas Starr – insisted the group are still “family” to one another.
She told Britain’s OK! magazine: “We’re one big dysfunctional family.
“Our relationship extends beyond the five of us because our parents are friends and our siblings are friends.
“The Spice Girls isn’t just a girlband. There’s a huge Spice family. And what’s lovely is, everybody has their own lives and careers and responsibilities, but we’re always there for one another.
“We still have that sister bond. That will never ever go away.
“A lot of our children are the same-ish age now, so they’re all friends too – it’s amazing.
“I hope they end up as close as we are.”
Mel has been trying to “manifest” another reunion for them all.
She said: “You’ve got to manifest these things! I’ve taken a leaf out of Mel B’s book – she always said, ‘It’ll happen, we just need to manifest it’, so that’s what I’ve been trying to do.”

Carmit Bachar asks Nicole Scherzinger to help stop trolls

OHMYGOSSIP — Carmit Bachar has urged Nicole Scherzinger to intervene after her daughter was bullied online.
The Pussycat Dolls star requested her former bandmate put out a message to her own fans after they allegedly flocked to the 10-year-old child’s own Instagram account to share “hateful” comments about the youngster’s famous mother.
Speaking after Nicole’s performance at the Atlantis Concert for Earth in Portugal, Carmit wrote on Instagram: “Congrats on your recent performance @nicolescherzinger.
“Kindly requesting you communicate to the multiple Scherzy fans that are harassing and bullying my child by tagging her and writing hateful comments about me under her posts to please STOP immediately.
“It is beyond disrespectful, dangerous and unbecoming.”
This isn’t the first drama between the pair that has played out on Instagram.
In January, Nicole announced Pussycat Dolls had cancelled their reunion tour because of rising COVID-19 cases, but Carmit and bandmate Jessica Sutta, later claimed they had only learned the news via the ‘Poison’ hitmaker’s Instagram announcement.
They wrote in a joint statement on their own Instagram Stories: “We want to say how incredibly disappointed we are to learn of an announcement made on Instagram that the Pussycat Dolls reunion tour is canceled.
“As of now, there has been no official notification of that. (sic)”
The bandmates admitted they had “big dreams” to ensure “all of our voices could be heard”, and while the tour is off, they insisted “it’s not the end of the Dolls story”.
They added: “Either way, it seems as though it’s the end of a chapter to an incredible, life-altering experience full of some awesome memories that we will forever be grateful for.
“To the fans, we love you. Trust us, this is not the outcome we had hoped for. We wanted it as much as you because we appreciate you all so much and it hurts our hearts you had to wait so long for an answer, but unfortunately it’s out of our control.
“We all had big dreams for this brand to expand especially creating the music so all of our voices could be heard, which would be true female empowerment.
“Thank you to all the fans that supported us unconditionally and love us to no end. We will always honor the essence of what the true definition of being a Pussycat Doll is. This tour may have come to an end but it is not the end of the Dolls story. We created a sisterhood that will live on.”
The much-delayed tour was originally due to take place in 2020 but was pushed back because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Paramore inspired by Bloc Party

OHMYGOSSIP — Paramore’s “number one reference” for their upcoming album is Bloc Party.
The ‘Misery Business’ group have been writing material for their sixth LP over the last 18 months and frontwoman Hayley Williams admitted they have been inspired by the “urgency” of the ‘Banquet’ hitmakers.
She said: “From day one, Bloc Party was the number one reference because there was such an urgency to their sound that was different to the fast punk or the pop punk or the like, loud wall of sound emo bands that were happening in the early 2000s.
“They had their own thing and it was so unique and so dynamic, and it really stuck with us. And I’m really really thankful for this band, I’m so thankful that they’re back, they’re playing shows they’re putting out great songs, and it just makes me feel even more excited to get back out into the world, and maybe cross paths with the band that has been a huge part of our story from day one.”
Hayley is still a big fan of the group’s 2005 record ‘Silent Alarm’ and it brings back fond memories for her.
Speaking on her ‘Everything is Emo’ podcast, she said: “We loved this band, me and all my friends, we were really into that album and it always reminds me of getting my driving licence.
“I paid my mom money that I got from a publishing advance we got from our first album to buy out the remainder of the car notes that she had for this old Mazda 626. I think I paid $3000, I named her Miss Anne, I covered her in stickers.
“Bloc Party’s ‘Silent Alarm’ was always on in the car. It was a favourite, and there’s really not a bad track on it.”
Hayley also admitted she finds the work of The 1975 “inspiring” too.
She gushed: “What an influential band, a band that does whatever the hell they want to. Again, that’s really inspiring when you see other bands just following their own arrow. I love it.”
And the 33-year-old singer is impressed with the way Foals have changed over the years.
She said: “I really respect this band’s journey and how they continue to evolve.
“I think it takes a lot of guts too. I think of every time we’ve gone home to write a new album, or we have an album in the can but haven’t presented it to the world, it’s a really scary feeling. It can be nerve-wracking to present yourself in a new way and essentially, grow in front of the world.
“Any time a band re-emerges with a new picture, a new frame of mind, I think it’s courageous and cool and I’m really enjoying their evolution.”

Jennifer Lopez has been making ‘a lot of music’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Lopez has been making “a lot of music”.
The 53-year-old singer-and-actress – who just tied the knot with Ben Affleck – has never felt more “inspired” and hinted there’s more new music on the way.
Speaking to the latest issue of People magazine, the ‘Waiting For Tonight’ hitmaker spilled: “I’ve been very inspired for the first time in years and writing in a way that I haven’t in a long time.
“It’s been one of the best experiences creatively in my life.
“I’m excited about life in general and where it’s going.”
The ‘On The Floor’ hitmaker hasn’t released an album since 2014’s ‘A.K.A.’.
However, she has released a number of singles since then and the recent ‘Marry Me’ movie soundtrack.
Jennifer’s last solo single was 2020’s ‘In The Morning’.
Meanwhile, Jennifer recently admitted she is “happier than ever” as she posed nude on her 53rd birthday.
The pop superstar tied the knot with Hollywood actor Ben in Las Vegas earlier this month and admitted that she feels “amazing” as she posed naked to celebrate the launch of her skincare cream line JLo Body.
She said: “I am the age I am, but I feel amazing and happier than ever. I feel like I’m just at my halftime right now and just getting started.”
JLo – who rekindled her relationship with Ben back in 2021 after a break of almost 20 years – explained that her new husband prefers it when she has “nothing on” and ditches the make-up in favour of a more natural look.
She said: “He is like, ‘I like you when you have nothing on. No hair on, no makeup on, just you in your own skin.’ He really appreciates that. And that makes me feel really confident and beautiful. Someone can see the essence of who you are and just the skin that you’re in and that I take care of that and that he appreciates that. That makes me feel really beautiful too. (sic)”

Is Tom DeLonge back in Blink-182?

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom DeLonge has hinted he’s back in Blink-182 after replacement Matt Skiba admitted he is unsure whether he’s still in the band.
The 46-year-old Alkaline Trio frontman started touring with the pop-punk veterans – Mark Hoppus, 50, and 46-year-old Travis Barker – in 2015, following the second departure of Tom, 46.
He remained in the group and went on to record two albums (2016’s ‘California’ and 2019’s ‘Nine’) with them.
However, he did not appear on their 2020 single ‘Quarantine’, which was released amid the global pandemic.
And when one Instagram user commented on Matt’s selfie with “no Blink content” and “the Blink guys don’t post pictures with Matt” last month, he replied: “Your guess is as good as mine.
“Regardless, I am very proud of and thankful for my time with Blink 182. We shall see…”
Since then, over the weekend, eagle-eyed fans noticed Tom updated his Instagram bio to include: “I make music (@blink182 and @angelsandairwaves)…”
He’s also posted a black-and-white photograph of the ‘Feeling This’ trio and simply tagged the group in the caption.
The updates to his socials came after a Blink Funko Pop! collection was announced, including former co-frontman Tom.
The musician has long expressed his desire to return to the band in the future.
And last year, Mark insisted he wasn’t against the idea.
He said: “We haven’t really talked about that, but I’m open to anything in the future
“I don’t know how that would work if it’s all four of us. Like, we’re all going to live in the same house again?”
In 2021, Angels and Airwaves frontman Tom revealed he had started repairing his relationship with Mark after his cancer diagnosis.
He said: “The way the universe works is strange because I reached out to Mark because I needed him to sign this piece of paper that had to do with my divorce. Only because of that call did I learn he had cancer. And he told me on the phone. I was like, ‘Wait, what?’ And we weren’t really talking much at all, maybe once every couple of months, a little text here and there. But now, we talk multiple times a day. So it’s like we’ve been able to completely repair that friendship and really cut to the depth of who we are as people and what this is all about.”
The musician was declared cancer-free in September 2021, after battling an aggressive form of lymphoma.

Lil Durk hit by stage pyrotechnics

OHMYGOSSIP — Lil Durk was hit in the face by pyrotechnics during his Lollapalooza set.
The ‘Backdoor’ hitmaker has told fans he plans to “take a break” from music in order to “focus on [his] health” after being left injured during his performance at the Chicago festival on Saturday (30.07.22).
Footage circulating online showed the rapper was performing ‘Back In Blood’ when he accidentally walked into a pyrotechnic cannon and took two explosive blasts of smoke in his face.
The song was stopped as Durk stumbled backwards with his T-shirt covering his face while crew members rushed to his aide, but he ultimately decided to continue with the performance.
After a brief pause, he could be heard saying: “F*** it, no more smoke, let’s do it.”
And now, the 29-year-old star has shared a photo of himself sitting on a bed in hospital, with a patch over his eye.
He captioned the Instagram post: “Due to the incident that happened at Lollapalooza in Chicago on stage, I’ma take a break and focus on my health. I finished my performance yesterday for my fans. Appreciate y’all [blue heart emoji] (sic)”
No official announcement has yet been made as to whether Durk is planning to delay any of his upcoming performances as he is currently scheduled to perform in Boston on 13 August before kicking off his ‘7220 Deluxe’ tour in September.
The weekend before Lollapalooza, Durk performed at Rolling Loud festival and stunned the Miami crowd when he brought Kanye West out to perform with him, days after the ‘Stronger’ hitmaker – who has legally changed his name to Ye – had pulled out of headlining the Miami event.
Kanye stepped out with black paint on his face and a futuristic pair of shades covering his eyes, and performed ‘Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1’ from his ‘Life of Pablo’ album as fans ran from the other stages to try and catch a glimpse of the star.

BLACKPINK announce album 2, Born Pink

OHMYGOSSIP — BLACKPINK will release their second studio album, ‘Born Pink’, in September.
The South Korean girl group – comprising Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo and Rosé – have long been teasing their comeback, and after debuting the track ‘Ready For Love’ during the in-game concert ‘The Virtual’ on ‘PUBG MOBILE’ last month, they’ve confirmed details of their follow-up to 2020’s ‘The Album’.
The title track is set to arrive in August, while the foursome will embark on a world in October.
A trailer, including a brief clip of the song, was shared on their YouTube channel.
In a statement, YG Entertainment said of the LP: “The name for this comeback project is ‘Born Pink,’ which implies the identity of BLACKPINK, which is never ordinary and will exude a fatal aura.”
It had been teased that the ‘Sour Candy’ hitmakers would release fresh tracks in August as they were in the “final stages of recording a new album” and intended to go on the “largest world tour in the history of a K-pop girl group.”
YG said: “A lot of BLACKPINK-esque music has been prepared over a long period of time. On top of new music and large-scale projects, BLACKPINK will also go on the largest world tour in the history of a K-pop girl group by the end of the year to expand their rapport with fans worldwide.”
The label went on to add their second album will begin “a continuous large-scale project which will extend through the second half of the year.”
Ryan Tedder – who has co-written and produced hits for the likes of Sir Paul McCartney, Adele, Beyoncé, and Ed Sheeran – had previously teased he had worked with BLACKPINK on a handful of tracks, but whether any made the final cut is not known at this time.
He said: “I can’t tell you what’s coming out. I think one or two of my songs have made the album.
“From what I’ve been told, and the stuff that I did with them, I can just say is very true to their sound.”
Away from BLACKPINK, Rosé and Lisa have released solo material, while Jennie boarded the cast of The Weeknd’s upcoming HBO series, ‘The Idol’.

Brian Eno announces 22nd album FOREVERANDEVERNOMORE

OHMYGOSSIP — Brian Eno’s new album will focus on climate change.
The 74-year-old musician is due to release his 22nd studio album ‘FOREVERANDEVERNOMORE’ in October and explained that the record was inspired by his thoughts regarding the “precarious” nature of the future regarding climate change.
He said: “Like everybody else – except, apparently, most of the governments of the world – I’ve been thinking about our narrowing, precarious future, and this music grew out of those thoughts. Perhaps it’s more accurate to say I’ve been feeling about it…and the music grew out of the feelings. Those of us who share those feelings are aware that the world is changing at a super-rapid rate, and that large parts of it are disappearing forever…hence the album title.”
The ‘Here He Comes’ hitmaker went on to explain that while the tracks on the new album are not “propaganda songs”, he is growing increasingly convinced that the only way to “save our planet” is to express different feelings about it.
He added: “I’m more and more convinced that our only hope of saving our planet is if we begin to have different feelings about it: perhaps if we became re-enchanted by the amazing improbability of life; perhaps if we suffered regret and even shame at what we’ve already lost; perhaps if we felt exhilarated by the challenges we face and what might yet become possible. Briefly, we need to fall in love again, but this time with Nature, with Civilisation and with our hopes for the future.”
‘FOREVERANDEVERNOMORE” will be released on October 14 on vinyl, CD and digital formats including Dolby Atmos but the lead single ‘There Were Bells’ – described as as a “poignant reminder of the current climate emergency” – is out now.

Beyonce confirms Renaissance is part of a ‘three-act project’

OHMYGOSSIP — Beyonce has declared her new album ‘Renaissance’ is part of a “three-act project”.
The pop star sent fans into a frenzy when she dropped her latest record on Friday (29.07.22) and she has hinted there’s still more to come as she described the record as one third of a project she has been working on over the last three years throughout the COVID-19 outbreak.
In a statement posted online marking the release of ‘Renaissance’, Beyonce explained: “This three-act project was recorded over three years during the pandemic. A time to be still, but also a time I found to be the most creative. Creating this album allowed me a place to dream and to find escape during a scary time for the world.”
She included a special thanks to her three children, Blue Ivy, and twins Rumi and Sir, as well as her husband Jay Z and added of the record: “Creating this album allowed me a place to dream and to find escape during a scary time for the world.
“It allowed me to feel free and adventurous in a time when little else was moving. My intention was to create a safe place, a place without judgment. A place to be free of perfectionism and overthinking.”
She continued: “A place to scream, release, feel freedom. It was a beautiful journey of exploration. I hope you find joy in this music. I hope it inspires you to release the wiggle. Ha! And to feel as unique, strong, and sexy as you are.”
Beyonce previously spoke about the new album in a chat with Harper’s Bazaar magazine, saying: “With all the isolation and injustice over the past year (during the COVID-19 pandemic), I think we are all ready to escape, travel, love, and laugh again. I feel a renaissance emerging, and I want to be part of nurturing that escape in any way possible.”
