OHMYGOSSIP — Billy Joel brought out surprise guest Olivia Rodrigo at his Madison Square Garden concert.
The ‘Piano Man’ hitmaker, 73, was joined on stage at the world-famous venue in New York City on Wednesday night (24.08.22) by the 19-year-old pop superstar for renditions of her 2021 mega-hit ‘deja vu’ and his 80s’ classic ‘Uptown Girl’.
Introducing Olivia on stage, Billy said: “I’m going to bring up another young musician. This is a very talented singer-songwriter.
“She’s very talented. I like her music and so do my kids. Please say hello to Olivia Rodrigo.”
She responded: “Thank you so much for having me, Billy.
“I’m such a huge fan, and I kind of wrote this next song about you.”
The ‘good 4 u’ hitmaker had some fun switching up the lyrics of her song with Billy accompanying her on the piano.
Olivia sang: “And I bet that she knows Billy Joel / ‘Cause you played her ‘Uptown Girl’.”
She later belts: “Play her piano, but she doesn’t know / That I was the one who taught you, Billy Joel.”
The ‘drivers license’ hitmaker has appeared on stage alongside a whole array of artists who came before her of late.
She joined Alanis Morissette for ‘You Oughta Know’, while she jumped on stage with idol Avril Lavigne to perform ‘Complicated’ and Natalie Imbruglia for a rendition of ‘Torn’.
And at Glastonbury in June, Olivia brought out Lily Allen for a cover of her 2008 hit ‘F*** You’ in response to the overturning of the Roe v Wade ruling, which has left millions of women across the US without access to legal or safe abortions.
Olivia said: “I’m devastated and terrified. So many women and so many girls are going to die because of this. I wanted to dedicate this next song to the five members of the Supreme Court who have showed us that at the end of the day, they truly don’t give a s*** about freedom. The song is for the justices: Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Amy Coney Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh. We hate you! We hate you.”
Lily, 37, could be seen swearing with her middle fingers as Olivia rhymed off the names of the justices.
She told the crowd: “This is actually my first Glastonbury and I’m sharing this stage with Lily, this is the biggest dream come true ever. But I’m also equally as heartbroken about what happened in America yesterday!”
The song – which was written by Lily and featured on her sophomore album ‘It’s Not Me, It’s You’ – was initially inspired by then-President George W. Bush, who Lily described as a “f****** a********.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Rita Wilson has unveiled her star-studded duets album ‘Rita Wilson Now and Forever: Duets’.
The Hollywood actress and singer has paid homage to 70s classics with Willie Nelson, Smokey Robinson, Jackson Browne, Tim McGraw, Elvis Costello, Keith Urban, Leslie Odom Jr, Josh Groban, Vince Gill and Jimmie Allen.
Today (25.08.22), the ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ star has shared ‘Let It Be Me’ with Jackson Browne, a song the late King of Rock and Roll, Elvis, covered in the 70s.
The latest single from the upcoming collection – which is due out on September 27 – follows the release of Rita and Josh Groban’s version of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Songbird’.
In a statement, the 65-year-old star said: “I wanted to honour where I came from with songs from the Seventies.
“It was really about showing enormous appreciation for the songwriting of that period—how these songs are still relevant even though they’re fifty years old.
“This album is really a continuation of sharing who I am musically, and what it is that I want to say.”
The ‘It’s Complicated’ star approached producer Matt Rollings amid the COVID-19 lockdown to work on the project, which she had wanted to do for some time.
She added: “And that’s exactly what happened.
“It all fell together incredibly smoothly.”
Country legend Willie Nelson joins Rita on a cut of Paul Simon’s ‘Slip Slidin’ Away’, Smokey Robinson appears on a cover of Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway’s ‘Where is the Love’, while Elvis Costello jumped on a duet of Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Fire’.
Rita’s last studio album was 2019’s ‘Halfway to Home’.

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran is set to play an intimate gig at London’s Union Chapel as part of Will Young’s Wellstock x ‘For One Night Only’ event.
The global megastar will perform for just 400 lucky fans at the special venue on October 11, with a prize draw being held to win tickets to see the ‘Bad Habits’ hitmaker in action.
Money raised from the tickets will go to Shout, “the UK’s first and only free, 24/7, confidential mental health text support service, powered by Mental Health Innovations.”
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – who are committed to improving mental health and wellbeing – are supporters of the digital mental health charity.
Ed, who will play an acoustic set, said: “I am excited to announce that I have teamed up with For One Night Only for this very special one-off concert. It’s the first in a series of events they’ll be creating and will be a brilliant night in an intimate and special venue.
“For One Night Only is holding the event in partnership with Will Young and his “Wellstock” initiative and it will help to raise funds for the mental health service Shout, who are doing important work by providing free, 24/7 text support to thousands of people every day.

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher has hailed Chris Martin “a wonderful chap” – years after mocking him by saying he looks like a “geography teacher”.
The ex-Oasis star famously scolded the Coldplay frontman in 2006, when he hit out at him for speaking about Free Trade.
He said: “Chris Martin looks like a geography teacher. What’s all that with writing messages about Free Trade? If he wants to write things down I’ll give him a pen and a pad of paper. Bunch of students.”
The outspoken rocker also said the ‘Yellow’ hitmaker looks like one of the characters from the children’s TV show ‘The Tweenies’, while extending his insults to the rest of the band.
He added at the time: “I’m sure he does put on a good gig, Chris Martin, the amount of money he gets paid. He looks like he’s in The Tweenies though. The whole band look beyond s***. Have they not seen any photos of The Rolling Stones? Probably not.”
However, when one fan asked Liam, 49, this week if he still thinks Chris, 45, is a geography student, he replied: “No he’s a wonderful chap who brings love n lots of light to people. (sic)”
The pair put the past behind them when they performed Oasis hit ‘Live Forever’ at the One Love Manchester benefit concert for the victims and families of the terrorist attack at Ariana Grande’s 2017 concert in the city, which killed 22 and left 500 injured.
The pair also shared a hug on stage.
And Coldplay did a rendition of the Britpop group’s 1995 classic ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’.
Liam said: “You’ve got to put all that stuff aside when it comes down to these kind of things.”
The ‘Wonderwall’ hitmaker apologised backstage and it turned out Chris was highly amused by his jibes over the years.
The ‘Wall Of Glass’ singer said: “I got in the dressing room and said ‘I apologise for everything I said before, I was being a d******.’
“[Chris] went: ‘Nah, nah, nah, we f****** love it. So I’ve got a pass.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Elton John gave guests at a restaurant in Cannes a little live preview of his upcoming Britney Spears duet ‘Hold Me Closer’ this week.
The 75-year-old music legend shared a clip of him singing the tune from an outdoors DJ booth at La Guerite beach restaurant, the same eatery where he previewed his Dua Lipa collaboration ‘Cold Heart’ last year.
He captioned the Instagram video: “Sneak peak of Hold Me closer – out this Friday. (sic)”
Britney recorded a new verse to Elton’s ‘Tiny Dancer’ for her comeback single.
The 40-year-old pop icon is said to have secretly met with the ‘I’m Still Standing’ hitmaker and producer Andrew Watt at a Beverly Hills recording studio to work on the new version of his 1971 classic, which will be her first ­single in six years.
And as well as ‘Tiny Dancer’, it also features parts of Elton’s 1992 track ‘The One’ and more of his tunes.
‘Hold Me Closer’, which is released on Friday (26.08.22), follows Elton and Dua’s chart-topper ‘Cold Heart’, which was a mashup of ‘Rocket Man’, ‘Sacrifice’, ‘Kiss The Bride’, and ‘Where’s The Shoorah?’.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Elton has helped countless artists throughout the years, both publicly and privately, and has been well aware of Britney’s battle to escape her conservatorship.
“They have known each other for years, with Elton personally inviting Brit to a number of his famous Oscar parties.
“He genuinely wants the best for her and to hear them on a track together is amazing.
“He was very keen to make it clear they are both on a level playing field when it comes to credits.
“It will be ‘Elton John, Britney Spears’ — she won’t simply be a featured artist.
“And she will get the money she deserves from the earnings.”
‘Hold Me Closer’ will be Britney’s first official single since 2016’s ‘Slumber Party’, the video shoot for which she met her now-husband Sam Asghari.
According to an insider, Britney secured a “record-breaking deal” from Universal to record with Elton.

OHMYGOSSIP — Rita Ora feels “really humbled” to be “so supported” by her fans and the music industry “to be myself”.
The ‘Anywhere’ hitmaker has reflected on her debut studio album ‘ORA’ turning a decade, and admitted she is very fortunate to be in a position to be doing what she loves every day.
The ‘Fifty Shades Freed’ star also admitted it’s still surreal to her that she got to perform at the Vatican in Rome and for former President of the United States Barack Obama at a Christmas concert as she looked back on the past 10 years.
Speaking to The Official Charts Company to mark the milestone, she said: “I honestly never anticipated what the next 10 years would bring. I never could have imagined performing at the Vatican to celebrate Mother Teresa’s canonisation, for Barack Obama, or even at the Oscars.
“I’m really humbled to be able to do what I love every day and feel so supported by my fans and creative community to be myself.”
And she wouldn’t change a thing about the recording of her chart-topping LP.
She said: “I wouldn’t give my younger self any advice because I wouldn’t want to have had it any other way. I think everything is exactly how it’s meant to be!”
The 31-year-old star – who recently got married to New Zealand filmmaker Taika Waititi – is proud that she got to work with producers and writers from Britain and across the globe to create a record that “felt right for me”.
She said: “My fondest memory was having so many talented people in one space working on it with me.
“I was able to bring British producers and writers together with ones from all over the world to create something that felt right for me. It was a very exciting and special experience to record it with people that I got to know so well during the process; they became like family. They were a huge part of the making of the album, and it just wouldn’t have been the same without them.”
Those involved in the production of the album were will.i.am, The-Dream, The Runners, The Monarch, Stargate, Chase and Status, Greg Kurstin, Jules De Martino and Diplo.
Rita shot to fame in 2012, when she featured on DJ Fresh’s drum and bass chart-topper ‘Hot Right Now’.

OHMYGOSSIP — Lethal Bizzle is set to be honoured with the Outstanding Contribution gong at next month’s AIM Independent Music Awards.
The 37-year-old London rap legend – whose real name is Maxwell Owusu Ansah – will take to the stage at the ceremony at London’s Roundhouse on September 28, where he’ll treat the crowd to a set including ‘Rari WorkOut’, ‘Fester Skank’ and ‘Pow! (Forward)’.
The Grime superstar said of the industry recognition: “It’s nice to get your flowers when you can still smell them.”
It’s also been confirmed that indie legends The Libertines will take to the stage on the night for an intimate performance.
A third act will be announced for the live awards show in due course.
FKA twigs, Dave and Wet Leg are among the most-nominated artists.
The ceremony celebrating the hottest independent acts the UK has to offer sees the ‘Killer’ singer and rap superstar Dave lead the way with two nods apiece.
Both stars will go head-to-head for Best Independent Track in association with Meta.
Twigs’ ‘tears in the club’ featuring The Weeknd, Dave’s ‘Starlight’ and indie duo Wet Leg’s ‘Chaise Longue’ will go up against the likes of Nova Twins’ ‘Antagonist’, Yves Tumor’s ‘Jackie’ and Wu-Lu’s ‘Broken Home’ for the prize.
Twigs, 34, is also nominated for Best Independent EP/Mixtape – a brand new category – for ‘CAPRISONGS’, while Dave’s ‘We’re All Alone In This Together’ is shortlisted for Best Independent Album in association with Spotify.
Twigs previously won Independent Track of the Year for 2014’s ‘Two Weeks’, while in 2020, ‘Magdalene’ was named Best Second Album.
Wet Leg – comprising Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers – will fend off Nova Twins, Knucks, Children of Zeus and Warmduscher to be crowned the top UK Independent Breakthrough act.
The Ones to Watch for 2023 are: Barry Can’t Swim, Jeshi, Léa Sen, Nia Archives and TAAHLIAH.

Arlo Parks was the big winner at last year’s ceremony.

OHMYGOSSIP — DJ Khaled is the “biggest fan” of Jay-Z.
The 46-year-old record executive – whose real name is Khaled Mohamed Khaled – recently released a version of Bee Gees classic ‘Stayin’ Alive’ along with rap stars Drake and Lil Baby, which is taken from his forthcoming LP ‘God Did’, while the ‘Empire State of Mind’ hitmaker appears on the title track with John Legend, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and Fridayy.
And he has revealed he went to Jay-Z for his opinion on which cover art to use for the record while hailing Drake, Lil Baby and Jay-Z his “favourite” rappers.
He said: “‘Staying Alive’, for it to be the first single is, like, perfect. Because you think about all the stuff that all of us are going through. We out here walkin’ outside dodging everything. And ‘Staying Alive’ resonates with people immediately. Drake’s my brother and Lil Baby’s my brother — they’re my favourite artists. I am the biggest Jay-Z fan.”
The ‘Hold You Down’ hitmaker added that Jay-Z thinks his latest album is his best work yet and admitted that it feels “beyond incredible” to have been able to release his 13th record.
He told Billboard: “I always give him, like, two cover options and see which one he would pick. And I did it again on this album. After I got done playing it, he pulled me aside and said, ‘Yo, this is your best album.’ I love you, Jay-Z!’
“To get to a 13th album is, like, beyond incredible for me.
“The greats that I look up to, when I see how many albums they put out, I’m on the right track. And I know how hard it is to be in this game — some people can’t make it past their first single or their first album.”
‘God Did’ is out on Friday (26.08.22).

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran apologised to Union J for beating them to number one.
Josh Cuthbert of the ‘Carry You’ group – also comprising Jaymi Hensley, George Shelley and JJ Hamblett – has revealed the ‘Bad Habits’ hitmaker was really apologetic when their song came second to his, seemingly referring to 2014’s ‘You Got It All’ placing second to the Grammy winner’s megahit ‘Thinking Out Loud’.
Asked who their dream collaboration would be, Josh told the Daily Star: “Ed Sheeran, we have actually met him before as well.
“The last time we met him he beat us to No1, well, he was No1 and we were No2.
“And he came in and apologised and was like ‘I’m so sorry, that No1 would have meant so much more to you guys than me’.
“He didn’t mean it in an arrogant way, he meant it in a really sweet way, but you never know, it could happen, who knows what could happen? One song could change everything.”
Meanwhile, the reunited group are in talks for a tell-all documentary about their career.
Josh said: “Hopefully, we’re doing a tour in March next year and we’ve got some record label meetings and other exciting meetings about a documentary and stuff.
“We are going to be open about our mental health and a bit about what it’s like being in a band and various stuff really – just a very open and honest thing really.”
The band were originally known as Triple J when they auditioned for ‘The X Factor’ in 2011 but changed their name when they were grouped with George on the show.
They signed to RCA Records after finishing fourth in the competition and released their debut single in June 2013.
George competed on ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’ and quit the group in March 2016.
He was replaced by another former ‘X Factor’ star, Stereo Kicks singer Casey Johnson, but his tenure with the group didn’t last long.
In 2018, Josh announced his departure, citing his desire to pursue “individual opportunities across entertainment and music”.
However, the boy band reunited on stage at the London Palladium in May for a one-off gig.

OHMYGOSSIP — Steps are planning a West End musical based on their songs.
The dance-pop group – which comprises Faye Tozer, 46, Claire Richards, 44, Lee Latchford-Evans, 47, Lisa Scott-Lee and Ian ‘H’ Watkins, both 46, – are planning to take their songs to the stage in the form of a jukebox musical, with Lisa explaining that they have a “fantastic back catalogue” which would lend itself well to the world of theatre.
Lisa said: “It is something that excites us as a band up on and we think we have a fantastic catalogue that would really lend itself to a West End musical, and so we are in talks. It would be an amazing thing to a cent do because we have all these wondeful highlights, from winning a BRIT Award to selling out all these arenas and number one albums.”
However, the musical will not be based on the band members themselves – who first formed in 1997 and enjoyed success with hits such as ‘Tragedy’ and ‘Stomp’ before splitting in 2001 but have released three brand-new albums and staged a string of sell-out arena tours since reuniting in 2011 – and Lisa went on to explain that the gang would be “involved with the creatives” and will be writing and producing the show themselves.
She told The Daily Star’s Wired column: “The majority of us love theatre and love that side of things, but I wouldn’t suggest we would all be playing ourselves. It would be great to be behind the scenes, involved in the writing, and involved in the creatives. When we tour, that is what we do. People probably think we just turn up on stage and perform the show, but we are producing the show along with our creative director and our management team.”
Meanwhile, Steps have recently released their Platinum Collection in celebration of their 25th anniversary and Lisa added that the “great thing” about it is it incorporates their classic hits with newer songs such as ‘Scared of the Dark’ and ‘Something in Your Eyes’ from newer albums ‘Tears on the Dancefloor’ and ‘What the Future Holds.’
She said: “It isn’t just a greatest hits, it has new music on there, too. The great thing about us is that we didn’t just come back and keep performing the old hits. We actually create music, and release new albums and I am proud of the new music – we all are because it’s really current. The fans will love it.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Dave Grohl’s guitar he used in Foo Fighters’ ‘Monkey Wrench’ music video is expected to fetch £30,000 at auction.
The former Nirvana drummer’s Gretsch White Falcon will go under the hammer at Gardiner Houlgate in Wiltshire, South West England on September 7.
The original owner of the axe is Grohl’s bandmate Pat Smear, and it was played on Foos’ 1995 LP ‘The Colour and the Shape’, of which ‘Monkey Wrench’ was the lead single.
The promo for the classic rock song was directed by Grohl and was the first to feature late sticksman, Taylor Hawkins, on drums, even though it’s still Grohl playing drums on the recording of the track.
What no doubt bumped up the estimate for the instrument, is the fact it comes with a polaroid of Hollywood actress Drew Barrymore playing the Falcon, taken by Smear.
Luke Hobbs of Gardiner Houlgate said: “This a very exciting guitar as it’s one of the few owned by Foo Fighters, arguably the biggest current rock band on earth, ever to come to public auction.
“‘Monkey Wrench’ was the band’s breakthrough single and also the first to feature drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died tragically this March.
“I’m expecting interest from around the world. The fact that it features so prominently in the band’s iconic ‘Monkey Wrench’ video makes it all the more attractive to collectors and fans.”
Meanwhile, Hawkins – who tragically died in Bogotá, Colombia on March 25, aged 50 – will be honoured with two special tribute concerts in London and Los Angeles next month.
The biggest musicians on the planet will honour the rock icon at Wembley Stadium on September 3 and Los Angeles Kia Forum on September 27.
The likes of Liam Gallagher, Mark Ronson, Josh Homme, Brian May and Roger Taylor and more will play the British capital.
While in California, Alanis Morissette – whom Hawkins started out playing drums for – leads the packed line-up, alongside Miley Cyrus, Queen, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pink and many more.

OHMYGOSSIP — Ash have a double treat in store for fans with the band reportedly set to release two albums.
The Tim Wheeler-fronted alternative rock band – also comprising Mark Hamilton and Rick McMurray – haven’t put out an LP since 2018’s ‘Islands’, however, an insider has teased that the ‘Girl From Mars’ hitmakers have a plethora of new tunes on the way.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Things are very much a work in progress but over the past few weeks they have been secretly writing and recording in Scotland.
“As things evolved it became clear a double album-style release could be the way forward.
“Each will have a different sound, with one being more synthy than the other.”
The double album is said to be “most likely” to be released in the “second half” of 2023.
Tim released his debut solo album ‘Lost Domain’ in 2014, and it was then that he decided it was time for Ash to return to the album format after a “creative break” that enabled them to put single after single out.
He said in 2018: “I guess when I did my solo record that was when I started to think about albums again. When we decided to go off and to the singles thing with the ‘A to Z’ series it seemed like albums were dying off and people were downloading single tracks. I do think with streaming becoming popular there is an option to listen to complete records and with vinyl making such a strong comeback we saw albums making a comeback. Also, I think our fans were well up for us making another one. We did explore the single thing to a significant extent by doing twenty-six singles in a year – that gave us a creative break that we wanted. Around the time after ‘Twilight of the Innocents’, I think if we had done another album it wouldn’t have felt very empowering for us at the time but by going off and doing something so different, it cleared our heads in a way to come back to albums.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Coldplay have added a pair of UK dates to their ‘Music of the Sphere’ world tour.
Chris Martin and co will now play Manchester’s Etihad Stadium and Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on June 1 and June 6, 2023, as part of the extensive global jaunt.
And it looks set to continue yet.
A tweet on the ‘Paradise’ group’s official page read: “NEW UK / EUROPEAN DATES ANNOUNCED Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2023 // On sale 10am Thursday http://coldplay.com // More shows to follow #MOTSWT.”
So far on the run, the group have performed with special guests including Selena Gomez, Natalia Imbruglia, All Saints’ Shaznay Lewis, Craig David, and even comedy legend Alan Patridge (Steve Coogan), who joined them for covers of Kate Bush and ABBA hits at Wembley Stadium at the weekend.
Meanwhile, Chris recently revealed he is hoping to tour in a plane “powered by milk”.
The eco-conscious band are keen to use renewable energy whenever they’re on the road, and the musician wants to push the boundaries even further in the coming years.
He shared: “We’re about halfway where we want to go. A place we are struggling is transport.
“That’s where we need help and we need technology to develop so that we can fly in a plane powered by milk or something like that. So if anyone is making a milk-based plane…”
Chris also admitted he and his bandmates don’t actually feel like they’re the stars of the show on their current run.
He said: “People are coming to see us, kind of. But they are really coming to be part of something.
“We are almost just the house band and everyone else is proving the entertainment. Especially after, or during, COVID it’s a chance to let go and be free. That’s what we want to encourage in our audience and in ourselves.”
Last year, Chris admitted there’s still “a long way to go” with his eco ambitions.
The 45-year-old singer revealed that he’s continually looking at ways of reducing emissions while he’s on the road.
He said: “We’ve been working with some amazing brains to see how we can cut down as much of the environmental impact as possible.
“We still have quite a long way to go, but we’ve already come quite a long way. And there are some things that we didn’t dream were possible that are possible.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Ozzy Osbourne is hoping to bag a number one album with ‘Patient Number 9’.
The Prince of Darkness managed to score a number three in the UK and US with his 12th solo record ‘Ordinary Man’ in 2020, and he’s hoping to jump two places in the Official UK Chart with his new record, which drops on September 9, with the ‘Paranoid’ rocker declaring: “I won’t let the world forget about me.”
The Black Sabbath legend is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: “I still want to have a No.1 record in England. And this album is worthy of being the one.
“Whatever happens, I won’t let the world forget about me.”
The 73-year-old music legend – who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in January 2020 – underwent major surgery in June but he’s now back on his feet and eager to get back out on the road one day.
The ‘Dreamer’ singer added: “By hook or by crook I’ll be on stage again one day to say thank you to the fans.”
Ozzy underwent a life-changing procedure two months ago and previously told fans he was “recuperating comfortably”.
In an update shared on social media days after the operation, he said: “I am now home from the hospital recuperating comfortably.
“I am definitely feeling the love and support from all my fans and send everyone a big thank you for their thoughts, prayers, and well wishes during my recovery.”
His wife Sharon, 69, had previously explained that her spouse was heading in for “a very major operation”.
Without specifying the procedure or the nature of it, Sharon had said: “[Ozzy] has a very major operation on Monday, and I have to be there.
“It’s really going to determine the rest of his life.”
Ozzy previously suffered a nasty fall and dislodged metal rods placed in his spine following a quad-bike accident in 2003, and the op was to readjust the 15 screws.

OHMYGOSSIP — Red Hot Chili Peppers are the 2022 recipient of the Global Icon Award at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).
Anthony Kiedis and co will take to the stage to perform and collect the prestigious accolade at the star-studded ceremony at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on August 28.
The ‘By The Way’ rockers – completed by Chad Smith, John Frusciante, and Flea – previously accepted the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2000 awards, where they performed ‘Californication’.
The latter honour will go to rap megastar Nicki Minaj this year, who said: “I’m receiving the Video Vanguard Award at the 2022 #VMAs! You DO NOT !!!! I REPEAT!!!! You do NOTTTTTT want to miss my performance – Sunday August 28 at 8p on @MTV.”
Along with securing the gong, the ‘Super Freaky Girl’ star will take to the stage along with the likes of Anitta, J Balvin, Marshmello x Khalid and Panic! At The Disco, Maneskin and Jack Harlow.
Bruce Gillmer, Paramount’s president of music, music talent, programming and events and Music for Paramount COO said: “Nicki has broken barriers for women in hip-hop with her versatility and creative artistry. Doja Cat is also up for six awards but Lil Nas X, Jack Harlow and Kendrick Lamar lead the field with seven nominations.
Drake, Ed Sheeran, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd are all up for five prizes each.
Meanwhile, Madonna has made history by becoming the only artist to be nominated in every decade since the VMAs were first held in 1984.
The Queen of Pop is the most awarded artist in VMAs history and ‘Madame X’ has provided her with a 69th career nomination.
There are 26 first-time nominees this year including Kacey Musgraves and Maneskin.
This year’s VMAs will air from 8pm on MTV, the CW, BET, BET Her, CMT, Comedy Central, Logo, MTV2, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, Pop, TVLand, and VH1.

OHMYGOSSIP — Becky Hill isn’t dealing with her anxiety “very well” at the moment.
The ‘My Heart Goes’ hitmaker has admitted she is struggling with her mental health at this time, and her anxiety is especially heightened right before she releases new music because she fears people disliking her.
She is quoted by The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column as saying: “I get really bad anxiety before I release a single.
“I worry that people are not going to like it and does that mean that people are going to dislike me?
“I don’t check numbers and I don’t check how many streams it has but I am just grateful after it is released that I have had the chance to put out a song.”
The BRIT Award winner – who shot to fame after making the semi-finals of the first series of ‘The Voice UK’ in 2012 – goes to therapy regularly and also uses exercise as a remedy whenever she is feeling anxious.
She added: “You have caught me in a phase of my life where I don’t deal with my anxiety very well.
“It’s getting worse as it’s getting older but therapy is a great way to combat it.
“I try going to the gym but as much as I look after my body, I give my brain a workout as well with therapy, and that is healthy for everyone.”
Becky – whose latest single is ‘History’ with Joel Corry – need not worry about people liking her music as she’s bagged a number of Top 10 singles, while she holds the record as the only ‘The Voice UK’ contestant to earn a No.1 with ‘Gecko (Overdrive)’ with Oliver Heldens.
Meanwhile, the dance music star previously admitted it’s been “a long slog” to get recognised as an artist.
The British singer opened up about her journey from a reality TV contestant, to a songwriter and now a pop singer with a number of hits to her name.
Becky – who was crowned the most-streamed British Female Artist on Spotify UK in 2019 – explained how it has been a challenging ride, but she no longer feels like she is just that person who featured on another artist’s song.
She said in 2020: “It has been a long slog because for such a long time people didn’t really know my name or my face.
“I had success with songs like ‘Overdrive’, ‘Piece of Me’ and ‘Back and Forth’ but I still felt like I was relatively unknown and the success I was getting on these tracks wasn’t necessarily my success but the success of whoever’s track I was featuring on.
“So it’s really nice that actually over the past few years I have been going into the focus and I’ve been able to show people that actually I have been writing all of these songs, I write them, I sing them and they all come from so hopefully people will start investing in my artist career.”
