OHMYGOSSIP — The Strokes have started working on a new album with Rick Rubin.
The ‘Last Nite’ hitmakers are yet to announce plans for their seventh LP – the follow-up to 2020’s ‘The New Abnormal’ – but the legendary producer has revealed they’ve already completed a recording session together in Costa Rica.
Appearing on ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’, he said: “A few months ago I was in Costa Rica, recording a new album with The Strokes, and we rented this house up on the top of a mountain and set the band up outside.
“So they’re playing… It’s like they’re doing a concert for the ocean, on the top of a mountain. It was incredible.
“And we did that every day, playing out in the [open], and they didn’t want to leave. It was, like, the best experience.”
Rubin first teamed up with the band in 2017, when they first started working on ‘The New Abnormal’, which included singles such as ‘Bad Decisions’ and ‘The Adults Are Talking’.
There was a seven-year gap between that and its predecessor ‘Comedown Machine’, but frontman Julian Casablancas admitted he and the band didn’t want to wait that long for their next record.
Speaking in 2020, he said: “I think it will be a little quicker now. I think we have a good thing going. We have a good relationship with Rick [Rubin].
“In theory, knock on wood, we should be working faster. Hard to predict anything but that would be my guess… Albert?”
His bandmate, guitarist Albert Hammond Jr., insisted they’ve never gotten on better than they have now and he he’s excited about their future.
He added: “Yeah, of course – I would want that too. A band is a funny thing. I was just thinking, it’s so positive that you can be together so long and this moment together is even better than before.
“It’s so easy, in time, to lose relationships with people in general. So the fact that you work together and there’s five people going in and out and you can feel better now – it’s just exciting to me.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Eddie Van Halen recorded guitar parts for a planned Chris Cornell collaboration.
One of the late Soundgarden frontman’s former collaborators Pete Thorn – who toured with Cornell and played guitar on some songs from his 2009 album ‘Scream’ – has claimed the two rockers came close to working together on a track.
Appearing on ‘The Mitch Lafon and Jeremy White Show’ podcast, he said: “They were buddies… Eddie always wanted to do something with Chris, musically.
“He loved his voice and he used to be like, ‘Man, I love him. We were always talking about doing something together.’”
During the ‘Scream’ sessions, Thorn helped produce versions of ‘Long Gone’ and the title track, and it was at this point Cornell thought about getting Van Halen to join them.
He added: “[Cornell and I were] in a parking lot listening to them in my car, I remember, and he looked at me and he said, ‘Hey what do you think if we got Eddie to work on this?’ ”
Thorn met Van Halen at the late legend’s 5150 Studios, and he ended up laying down guitar for ‘Scream’.
However, he explained: “I don’t want to get anybody excited thinking that this ever got finished, because it didn’t.
“But he did work on it. And, you know, I would go up there over the next couple of weeks, and he had played on it.
“I would listen to it and just be like, ‘I can’t believe this is happening. This is myself and Eddie on a track.’ ”
However, Cornell never laid down his vocals on the song, although “somewhere” at 5150 Studios exists a reel with Van Halen’s recording.
He added: “It’s a long story, but it never got a vocal on it by Chris. You know, that was what it was.
“Ed got busy doing the next Van Halen record right around then and producing things… It just never ended up getting finished.”
Cornwell tragically took his own life aged 52 in May 2017, while Van Halen passed away in 2020.

OHMYGOSSIP — Matty Healy says touring is still healing after a difficult couple of years.
The 1975 frontman has opened up about the impact of the likes of Brexit issues and the COVID-19 pandemic, which has resulting in financial problems and stage crews finding new jobs.
He told the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column: “There’s no crew. When we had an official date where stuff could start getting booked after COVID, everyone came back so it was like a surge, like Black Friday.
“So everyone’s on the road and half the crew have changed careers.
“Then a lot of the crew have to be like, ‘Well you can pay me this, I’ve got too many offers’, so it’s like inflation within the industry.”
The ‘I’m In Love With You’ hitmaker admitted he and his band are in a fortunate position when it comes to their own crew, with plenty of people wanting to return.
He added: “We have very, very loyal crew, and it’s not that we’re like, ‘Hey, you stick with us’ – we’d always do retainers and things like that.
“But we have a lot of people that come back, a lot of people that want to do it and a lot of new people.”
Meanwhile, Matty – whose band is set to release their new album ‘Being Funny In A Foreign Language’ on Friday (14.10.22) – has insisted the group have no commercial ambitions, and would much rather be a “small emo band” than one of the world’s biggest groups.
Asked if he wants to top the charts, he recently said: “If I started caring about that now it would f****** stink. I said this ages ago, everyone wants us to become a huge rock band and we want to become a small emo band.
“If we become Burial, I’m way happier with that than f****** Foo Fighters, do you know what I mean? I love the Foo Fighters, but I couldn’t do that.
“It’s funny, there’s something about me that is very poppy and the stuff that comes out is poppy, but the references never are.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Stormzy is releasing his third album ‘This Is What I Mean’ next month.
The ‘Vossi Bop’ hitmaker has announced the release date and full track list for his new record – the follow-up to 2019’s ‘Heavy Is The Head’ – which includes tracks like ‘Please, ‘M Presidents Are Black’ and ‘I Got MY Smile Back’.
The album will arrive on November 25, as confirmed in a social media post featuring the list of songs and what appears to be the album art.
In a statement, the grime star said: “When you hear about music camps, they always sound intense and somber. People saying, ‘We need to make an album.’ ‘We need to make some hit records.’ But this felt beautifully free.
“We’re all musicians, but we weren’t always doing music. Some days we played football or walked around taking pictures. And the byproduct to that was very beautiful music.
“Because when you marry that ethos with world-class musicians and the best producers, writers, and artists in the world, and we’re in one space, that’s a recipe for something that no one can really imagine.
“You can’t even calculate what that’s going to come up with. And it came up with a big chunk of this album.”
Last month, Stormzy dropped new single ‘Mel Made Me Do It’ alongside a star-studded video featuring cameos from the likes of Usain Bolt and Louis Theroux, while the 11-minute promo alsi included a monologue by Wretch 32 and narration from Michaela Coel.
When he kicked off his UK and Ireland tour back in March, Stormzy thrilled fans by sharing footage which appeared to show him recording new music and adding a message declaring a new album was on the way.
The message which flashed up at the gigs declared: “Album 3. Coming 2022.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Robbie Williams is releasing a new deluxe edition of his multi-million selling debut solo album ‘Life thru a Lens’ to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the LP.
The special expanded 4-CD album – which is coming out on December 2 on UMC/Island Records – is comprised of the original record, which contains hits such as ‘Angels’, ‘Let Me Entertain You’ and ‘Old Before I Die’, as well as bonus tracks and B-sides.
The new edition will also feature previously unreleased demos, rehearsal recordings and rare remixes, as well as a first release on audio format of the complete concert recorded at London’s The Forum in June 1998, released that November as ‘Live In Your Living Room’ on VHS tape and VCD but never reissued.
‘Life Thru A Lens’ was originally released in September 1997 spending two weeks at Number 1 on the UK Album Chart and 92 weeks in the UK Top 40. It has sold 2.1 million copies in the UK alone.
The deluxe edition will be available in 4-CD Box Set, vinyl, and digital download formats and is available to pre-order now.
The anniversary edition of ‘Life thru a Lens’ follows the release of Robbie’s compilation album ‘XXV’, which features orchestral backing re-recordings of his greatest hits to mark his 25 years as a solo star.
‘XXV’ became Robbie’s 14th UK Number One album last month and that achievement means the 48-year-old singer has now broken the record for the solo artist with the most UK Number 1 albums. Only The Beatles now have more UK Number One albums than Robbie with 15.

OHMYGOSSIP — Lost Queen track ‘Face It Alone’ is a “real discovery”, according to Roger Taylor.
‘Face It Alone’ – which features the late Freddie Mercury on vocals – was unveiled to the world on October 13 and will be included on the re-release of the rock group’s 13th album ‘The Miracle’ on November 18.
‘Face It Alone’ was originally recorded during the band’s historic 1988 sessions for ‘The Miracle’ – the penultimate LP the band released before Freddie’s death in November 1991 – a prolific period which saw the band lay down around 30 tracks, many of which were never released, but remained among those that didn’t make the final album cut.
The track was rediscovered when the band’s production and archive team returned to those sessions to work on ‘The Miracle’ box set reissue.
Speaking about ‘Face It Alone’, drummer Taylor, 73, said: “We’d kind of forgotten about this track but there it was, this little gem. It’s wonderful, a real discovery. It’s a very passionate piece.”
Guitarist May, 75, added: “I’m happy that our team were able to find this track. After all these years, it’s great to hear all four of us … yes, Deacy (John Deacon) is there too … working in the studio on a great song idea which never quite got completed … until now!”
The single is the first new song featuring Freddie released in over eight years.
On 2014’s ‘Queen Forever’ album the band included three previously unheard tracks with Mercury, including ‘Let Me in Your Heart Again,’ ‘Love Kills’ and ‘There Must Be More to Life Than This’.
The limited collector’s edition box set of Queen’s ‘The Miracle’ is an eight-disc box set and includes ‘The Miracle Sessions’, containing over an hour of unreleased studio recordings including six previously unheard songs, plus intimate fly-on-the-wall audio of the band at work in the studio.

OHMYGOSSIP — Ellie Goulding is building a music studio at her home to ensure she can spend time with her son and still work.
The 35-year-old singer has 15-month-old son Arthur with her husband Caspar Jopling, and she has constructed a studio at their Gloucestershire home, south west England, so she can have the “best of both worlds” when she is making new music.
She said: “I’m building a music studio. I had a little shed and I’ve put all the stuff into it. It’s
kind of already there.
“It’s so I can spend more time with my son and still work, otherwise I’m leaving him. I want to hang out with him all the time.
“Whenever anyone wants a break I can pop down and see him. I want the best of both worlds.”
Ellie also admitted Arthur could soon be following in her footsteps because he is already “very musical”.
She said: “He can do scales, he’s only 15 months but he’s very singy. He is very musical and loves classical music. He’s got some musical genes, I’m very happy about that.”
Ellie’s new single ‘Let It Die’ will appear on her as-yet untitled fifth album, and her new music studio will soon be put to use as she is already working on her sixth record.
Speaking at the Attitude Awards at London’s Roundhouse, she told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “It’s kind of an escapist album.
“It’s a bunch of dance songs, going back to my electronic roots because I grew up on electronic music and rave music.”
In July, Ellie admitted her voice had got “stronger” since becoming a mother.
She said of motherhood: “It is by far the most challenging thing that I’ve done.
“It’s amazing that you are growing this human and when they smile at you, you are just like, it’s all worth it; when they smile at you and when they do silly things.
“They don’t tell you about all the crazy things that happen to your body, to your mind, you literally become a different person. It’s like you replace your brain with a different brain.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Silk Sonic have “gracefully, humbly, and sexually” withdrawn their album from Grammy Awards consideration.
Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak released their record ‘An Evening with Silk Sonic’ in November last year, meaning it would be eligible for consideration at the 2023 ceremony, but after their track ‘Leave the Door Open’ scooped Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best R and B Performance and Best R and B Song at the 2022 event, they are not looking for further recognition.
Bruno told Rolling Stone magazine: “We truly put our all on this record, but Silk Sonic would like to gracefully, humbly and most importantly, sexually, bow out of submitting our album this year.
“We hope we can celebrate with everyone on a great year of music and partake in the party. Thank you for letting Silk Sonic thrive.”
The ‘Uptown Funk’ hitmaker insisted he and his collaborator would be “crazy to ask for anything more” following their previous success.
He added: “Andy and I, and everyone that worked on this project, won the moment the world responded to ‘Leave The Door Open.’ Everything else was just icing on the cake.
“We thank the Grammys for allowing us to perform on their platform — not once but twice — and awarding us at last year’s ceremony.
“Thank you to everyone that supported this project and championed it.”
Bruno previously explained that making the record during the COVID-19 lockdown gave him and Anderson the time to perfect the album.
He said: “[We] did the research, to get the right things, down to the skins on Andy’s drums. I’ve never realised ’til this album how much the right guitar pick matters. The right gauged strings. All this science kinda stuff.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Stormzy has never felt “so excited” to release new music.
The 29-year-old rap star is set to release his first album in three years in November, and Stormzy has admitted to feeling extremely “proud” of his new record.
Stormzy – whose new album is called ‘This Is What I Mean’ – shared: “I’ve never been this excited for new music. I’ve never felt so proud and confident in the art I’ve made.
“And the beautiful thing about is that it’s … all my confidence and all my pride comes from the art. It doesn’t come from who people may think I am or what I’ve achieved – it’s none of that. It’s just a, ‘Yo, we’ve made something really beautiful, really special’. Something that people will feel, you know what I mean?
“When people ask me what I want to achieve, I’m just like, ‘I want people to feel it’. Whether it’s one person, whether it’s 20 million people, whether it’s 200 – I don’t mind. Just, I want someone to feel it, and I have a lot of confidence in that when people hear this, they’ll feel it.”
Stormzy didn’t have any premeditated ideas about his new album before he walked in the recording studio.
However, he now looks at it as a “soul” album.
Speaking to Zoe Ball on BBC Radio 2, he explained: “I keep calling it a soul album. I don’t call it a soul album in the sense like Aretha Franklin or like a genre. It’s just something that came from my soul, which sounds really cheesy, but that’s the only way I can describe it.
“People say is it a rap album, is it a grime album, is it a gospel album. I’m like, ‘Yo, it’s just come feelings that came out from my soul’. Yeah, we’ve just made something that I hope touches someone else’s soul, do you know what I mean?”

OHMYGOSSIP — Mark Owen will avoid playing certain Take That songs on his upcoming tour.
The 50-year-old pop star is set to embark on a solo tour of the UK – but Mark has warned fans that he won’t perform two particular Take That songs.
Speaking to the BBC, Mark joked: “I couldn’t play ‘Sure’, because I’d have to do the dance moves.
“It’s the same thing with ‘Pray’. As soon as I hear ‘Pray’, my arms go up to the side. They come together, the moves and the songs. So I couldn’t do them.”
Despite this, Mark insists he’s perfectly comfortable performing Take That songs on a solo tour.
He explained: “There was a point in my career where I thought, oh, I can’t do Take That songs [live]. But then, when I think about it, I’m like, I can, because I wrote on them. It’s all right.”
Mark moved to Los Angeles last year, and the pop star recently revealed that he’s loved the “challenge” of relocating to the US.
The chart-topping star – who has Elwood, 16, Willow, 13, and Fox, ten, with his wife Emma – doesn’t have any regrets about making the switch.
He said: “I love that challenge of trying to find your way in a new place. That kind of excites me.
“I’ve been surfing for five years now. I go to the beach maybe once every week – but the big waves in Los Angeles leave me ­battered.
“I can get up on to the board, just not very gracefully, and not for very long.”
Mark has also loved “going to a lot of gigs at the Hollywood Bowl”.
He shared: “I’ve seen everyone – Tame Impala, Haim, The Black Eyed Peas … That’s what made me really want to go up on stage again and to put that energy into a new record.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Girls Aloud are to release a seven-inch ‘Sound of the Underground’ single vinyl in honour of late band member Sarah Harding.
The band will drop the vinyl on December 9th, and 100 per cent of the profits are to go to The Sarah Harding Breast Cancer Appeal, which was established after the singer died of breast cancer in September 2021 aged 39.
It will be the first time the 2002 tune – the pop group’s debut single – is available on seven-inch vinyl and it will include a never-before-heard alternative vocal version of the song from the archives.
Only 5,000 copies of the vinyl will be released, and it will also include a sheet of “Buy Girls, Bye Boys” stickers.
They were used to promote the band – Kimberley Walsh, Cheryl Tweedy, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts, and Sarah – as they went up against fellow ‘Popstars: The Rivals’ winners One True Voice for the Christmas number one spot in 2002, which was won by ‘Sound of the Underground’.
Nicola has taken to Twitter to promote the vinyl.
She wrote: “To celebrate it’s 20th anniversary, ‘Sound Of The Underground’ is being issued for the very first time as a collectible 7” vinyl. Backed with a never-before-released alternative vocal version of the song from the archives
“this limited edition vinyl also comes with a sheet of “Buy Girls, Bye Boys” stickers. 100% of the profits will be donated to The Sarah Harding Breast Cancer Appeal which is part of The Christie Charitable Fund. (sic)”
The seven-inch single will be available for £15.99.

OHMYGOSSIP — Graham Coxon would be happy to help Oasis get back together.
The Blur musician – whose group was an the centre of a Britpop chart battle with the ‘Wonderwall’ hitmakers in the 1990s – weighed in on some potential reunions and insisted Liam and Noel Gallagher needs their heads knocking together.
He told the Evening Standard newspaper: “That would be fun [seeing Pulp return]. Just need Oasis to do it. Knock those brothers’ heads together.”
Asked if he would step up to make it happen, he added: “Yes any dad. I’d do that. I’d have a chat with them.”
However, the guitarist has played down the idea of Blur getting back together for a new album and tour in 2023.
He explained: “No, I don’t know what’s going on with Blur, we haven’t really talked about anything. I don’t really know what it is. It’s actually quite important that I say nothing about it for personal reasons.”
He did admit he’s hopeful the ‘Parklife’ band will figure something out again at some point.
He said: “I hope so. We always get round to it sooner or later.”
Earlier this year, Graham spoke about the band’s various reunions after they initially broke up in 2003, and he insisted there is “always” the chance they’ll make another comeback if the time is right.
He said: “I actually think that Blur will always be capable of that, and when the time comes around and the stars are aligned, we’ll always be capable of doing something interesting.”
Reflecting on their first return in 2009 which saw them headline Glastonbury, he explained how it made him “more grateful for what [they’d] always had”.
He added: “I reckon a lot of bands would get that if they had a chance to do that again. “It’s why I almost get annoyed with other bands who have been squabbling and not really got it together to have another go. I think it’s kind of sad to hang on to resentments.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Fat Mike is opening the world’s first Punk Rock Museum in Las Vegas.
The NOFX frontman has announced plans for the space in Sin City, which is set to open on January 13, 2023 and already has memorabilia from the likes of Sum 41, Rise Against, Blondie icon Debbie Harry and more.
In a statement outlining his goals for the museum, he told SPIN magazine: “We want people to come from Indonesia and see the flier of their band on the wall.
“You know how proud they would feel? I want anyone in a punk band around the world to have that opportunity.”
With that in mind, Fat Mike has a simple admissions policy for bands hoping to feature in his “Church of punk”.
He added: “If you’re a punk band, you’re f****** in. It’s that simple.”
The institution will also look to document punk’s stories and the way it has had such a profound impact on culture over the past 50 years.
This has resulted in the likes of Nirvana and Foo Fighters star Pat Smear investing, along with skateboarding legend Tony Hawk, Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman and more.
Vinnie Fiorello – former Less Than Jake drummer and record label founder of both Fueled by Ramen and Paper + Plastick – added: “This is a love letter to punk rock.
“We want to show this common passion amongst so many different people for this form of music.”
The news comes after NOFX revealed last month they are going to break up in 2023, with their new record ‘Double Album’ dropping in December this year.
Responding to a fan on Instagram, Fat Mike said: “Next year will be [NOFX’s] last year. We will be announcing our final shows soon. It’s been an amazing run…”

The ‘Smooth Operator’ hitmakers – named after their lead singer Sade Adu – were the first artists to step through the door at the reopened studio in France, with the Hollywood actor describing her as “royalty”.
Producer Quintard added to Billboard magazine: “You could feel the love that she and the band had for this place.
“And when we talked to musicians who came here previously, they all have this special connection with Miraval that can’t really be explained … It’s a dream come true to see this place activate again.”
Founded in 1977 by jazz pianist Jacques Loussier and sound engineer Patrice Quef, the studio was in operation until the mid-2000s, but hasn’t been used since 2011 when Pitt bought it with his then-wife Angelina Jolie.
Quintard has also teased that the Sade session was “fantastic”.
He told SPIN magazine: “Sade is very special for Miraval and the legacy of the studio.
“We were ecstatic when she arrived and for her to be the first artist to record again here…
Some of the great moments of the studio are when you combine the past with the future.”
Meanwhile, the producer opened up on how artists – he’s staying tightlipped on other names – have taken advantage of the 900-acre grounds, with guest housing and much more to explore.
He explained: “It’s been a pleasure to see the artists create in the studio and live within the property. There’s a big artistic community in Miraval, whether it’s wine-making, painting, sculptors or artists.
“We make our own honey. We have a cross-pollination of many different styles and genres, and that’s what creates sparks. It’s a big part of the experience that we propose to the artists.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Mimi Webb admits her secret breakup inspired her new single ‘Ghost of You’.
The 22-year-old singer songwriter – who tracks ‘Good Without’ and ‘House on Fire’ have been charted in the UK top 10 – split from her partner over the summer after over a year together, and she used the “sad experience” to influence her upbeat song.
She told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “It was about taking this sad experience and a difficult time and turning it into a really upbeat, moving-on song.
“It’s something I’ve been through recently and for me, the whole process of this song and releasing it is about putting your happiness first.”
She added that the track – which finds itself at number 22 in the midweek singles chart – has been a “really personal” one to work on.
She said: “You’ve got to remember your self-worth and self-love. When you’re not feeling yourself, you’re not being yourself.
“That’s when you know something’s not right. It’s been really personal for me.”
Meanwhile, she noted how ‘Ghost of You’ has a sense of “empowerment” and its heart, and the idea of placing your trust in “the universe”.
She explained: “There’s some real empowerment behind it and it’s about going, ‘There’s nothing I can do about it, it’s done, and all I know is that the universe has the best interests at heart for me and I have to go with it.’ ”
Earlier this year, Mimi explained how her job as a shop assistant prepared her for life in pop music.
She said: “I started in retail when I was like, 16, or 17. I’d do weekdays and a few weekends while I was in and out of the studio. It is hard.
“You have to keep going and you are on your feet, but it definitely taught me to keep going now, which is useful!”

OHMYGOSSIP — Stevie Nicks has revealed a new poem which she is recording as a song.
The Fleetwood Mac legend has urged her fans in the United States to register to vote before the upcoming 2022 midterm elections, and she looked to inspire them with a piece of work entitled ‘Get It Back’.
Taking to Instagram, she wrote: “Dear Friends, Fans and Women of America; from 18 to 100 years old…
“I am sending you out a formal poem that I wrote not very long ago and the next day made it into a song.
“Recording a song out here on the road is not an easy task – so while I’m doing that, I decided that you should have the words.”
The lyrics – which she wrote last month – start with the lines: “I have my scars, you have yours. Don’t let them take your power.
“Don’t leave it alone, in the final hours. They’ll take your soul. They’ll take your power.”
In her letter to fans introducing the piece of work, Stevie also urged people to register and vote, particularly after the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
She wrote: “At 74 years old, I can honestly say that I am worried about every one of you. Worried about health care, and just in general, worried about your God given rights.
“You must gather together now. You must registered to vote as soon as you can… and you must vote!
“The disintegration of Roe v. Wade will change your life in an unfathomable way. You will not have control of what your beautiful dreams want for you.
“Your lives will be in the hands of governmental officials who do not know you and cannot possibly know what your future should be. You are the masters of your own ship.
“I watched what happened to women from 1966 (I was 18) to 1973 when I was 25 and 2 years away from joining Fleetwood Mac. Believe me when I tell you, you don’t want that world to come back.”
