OHMYGOSSIP — Modest Mouse drummer Jeremiah Green has been diagnosed with stage four cancer.
The 45-year-old musician is one of the co-founding members of the group, having formed the band in 1993 alongside bassist Eric Judy and frontman Isaac Brock.
His mother Carol Namatame revealed the news on Christmas Day (25.12.22) in an emotional Facebook post.
She asked people to “please sending healing vibes for my son” noting that he is “battling stage 4 cancer”.
She added: “He is so strong and so brave and hanging in there.”
Meanwhile, veteran radio DJ Marco Collins also shared the news on his own Facebook page.
He wrote: “Just found out my friend Jeremiah Green (Modest Mouse) has pulled off the band’s tour because he is currently undergoing chemo treatments to battle Stage 4 Cancer.
“Despite having a stage 4 diagnosis, his prognosis is good! Also his oncologist is a big MM fan (so he’s got that in his corner!).
“Sending him nothing but love healing energy! Get well buddy. We’re all pulling for you! (sic)”
Although Green had appeared on earlier dates of the band’s recent tour, he didn’t get to complete the run of shows due to his diagnosis.
He has been almost ever-present since the band’s formation, having only been absent between 2003 and 2004, which meant he didn’t appear on their album ‘Good News For People Who Love Bad News’.
Over the summer, the group revealed new material was on the way with “seven new songs coming out pretty soon”.
Frontman Isaac said: “I got seven new songs coming out pretty soon. As soon as we were done with the last album, I had a thorn in my side about everyone saying, ‘Why does it take so long to put out records?’
“Because I find other interests! Not all of them good, but f*** it! I don’t want to have to answer that question anymore, so I have a record that I’m really happy with.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Iron Maiden have released a new mini-documentary for their ‘Legacy Of The Beast’ tour.
The band’s frontman Bruce Dickinson acts as a guide for the two-piece doc ‘Behind The Scenes With Bruce’, which runs for a total of 18 minutes.
In the behind-the-scenes episodes, Bruce gives fans an insight into their ‘Legacy Of The Beast’ tour, which ran from May to October of this year, with a total of 140 shows on the itinerary.
Fans get to see his workout routine, before Bruce, 64, checks the equipment and talks them through the band’s backstage set up and rider.
He also opens up to fans about “the strange world that I live in – this funny little hobbit world behind the stage, which is all dark and dingy and things like that, with, like, plastic capes and flamethrowers…”
And he shares how he calms down between songs, by breathing into a towel.
Meanwhile, Iron Maiden have announced a slew of 2023 dates as part of ‘The Future Past Tour’.
The group will perform songs from their latest album, ‘Senjutsu’, the 1986 gem ‘Somewhere In Time’, and all the classics.
The run includes dates in Dublin, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, Nottingham, Birmingham and London, along with Poland, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Belgium and Italy.
The first date, as it stands, is on June 13 at Krakow’s Tauron Arena in Poland.
Further dates and supports will be confirmed in due course.
Bassist Steve Harris said: “Following the release of our latest album, ‘Senjutsu, we updated the current Legacy of the Beast Tour a little by opening the show with the first three songs from it, with the Japanese Palace stage set. As it doesn’t make a lot of sense to repeat this for a Senjutsu album tour, we thought about other options and we’ve decided to revisit Somewhere In Time as that tour didn’t feature in the various retrospective history tours we’ve played over the years. They were based on our 80’s concert videos and sadly we did not film that tour (blame the manager!!). We have had lots of requests from fans over the years for many tracks on it so we are now going to play them, plus of course a few others we know you will like! It will also be particularly satisfying to finally get to play some of the more epic tracks on Senjutsu, it’s been a long wait! 2023 is going to be an exciting time and we’re really looking forward to seeing everyone again in the UK, Ireland and around Europe.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Garbage are working on a new album.
The ‘Stupid Girl’ band have started making a follow-up to their 2021 record ‘No Gods No Masters’ and lead singer Shirley Manson has spoken of the challenge of trying to better their last effort.
She said: “We started our eighth studio record a few weeks ago. We all still feel really excited when we get to make another record.
“I was so proud of ‘No Gods No Masters’ and I still am. I knew when we finished it that this is really good, we’ve made something really, really good.
“To follow up that record is a bit of a conundrum in a way.
“Musically I know we’ll never run out of ideas. We get into the studio together and we jam and melodies come out and scraps of lyrics come out at the same time.”
Shirley explained how she delves into her inner self before the band makes a new album to make sure she expresses herself musically.
The 56-year-old musician told the Kyle Meredith With podcast: “I have a feeling in my gut of things that I want to talk about.
“Every time I do a record I’m like, ‘What is it you want to say? These are things you want to get off your chest before you die.’
“To get that out of your core is so thrilling. You feel like, ‘Wow, oh my God, I’ve really touched on something here that I’ve wanted to get off my chest for so long.'”
Shirley previously admitted that the band are always taken by surprise when they receive good reviews.
She said: “To be perfectly frank, we’ve reached a point in our career where we just accept the worst.
“We are always quite surprised when we get a positive reaction. It’s not something we really expect or are accustomed to.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Mel C has pulled out of performing in a New Year’s Eve concert in Poland.
Her move appears to be linked to the anti-LGBTQ+ views prevalent in the country, as the singer said she was cancelling her part in the gig as she had been made aware of “issues” that don’t “align” with groups she supports.
The 48-year-old Spice Girls singer said on social media on Monday (26.12.22): “In light of some issues that have been brought to my attention, that do not align with the communities I support, I’m afraid I will no longer be able to perform in Poland as planned on New Year’s Eve.
“I hope to be back there very soon. Hope you’re all having a wonderful Christmas and best wishes for 2023.”
Mel – born Melanie Jayne Chisolm – last month said she would not perform in Qatar over its human rights record.
Fans congratulated her for her principles following her post on the Poland concert.
Mel was last year honoured with the ‘Celebrity Ally’ award at the British LGBT Awards.
Poland has been found to have the worst protections for LGBTQ+ people in the European Union, according to the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association.
Same-sex marriage is not recognised in the mainly Catholic country, while some regions of the nation have put in place largely symbolic, “same-sex free zones” – prompting ambassadors of more than 50 countries to protest the move.

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Fender doesn’t like being compared to Bruce Springsteen.
The ‘Getting Started’ rocker has admitted that, despite being a huge fan of The Boss, 73, he is “not too keen on that tag”.
Sam, 28, is quoted by The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column as saying: “I’m not too keen on that tag. I feel I would rather be me. It’s like, ‘hang on, I don’t just rip him off, I have ripped off loads of other people’.
He continued: “You take bits from everything as a musician. I have a saxophone and I am from a working-class town and I speak about working-class life, so it is easy to get stuck in.
“I can see where the crossover comes.”
Sam revealed back in May that he had teamed up with music legends Springsteen, Sting, and Mark Knopfler on a charity project.
He said: “Sting occasionally FaceTimes us, weirdly I always end up being in the bath.
“We were in the studio the other day. I did a charity thing with him and Mark Knopfler.
I just did some guitar stuff, which was the most f***ing nerve-wracking thing ever.
“Going in to do a guitar take on a Mark Knopfler song — he’s one of the best guitarists ever. Springsteen’s on it as well.”
The musician admitted earlier this year he had set his sights on cracking America.
He said of his goals for the year: “Write and record another record, tour that record. Go out to America, start doing stuff out there because we’ve not really scratched the surface of the States.
“It’s flying over here and it’s starting to fly in Europe.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Ryder was the only star who showered while playing the 2014 Vans Warped Tour with his band Close Your Eyes.
The Eurovision singer previously fronted the Texan punk band before becoming a solo artist and he hit the road with them for a US tour with acts including Enter Shikari and Bowling for Soup – and Sam is adamant he was the only one who washed every day.
He told NME.com: “I was the only person on that tour who managed to shower every single day”
Sam called himself “the freshest kid on the Warped Tour” and insisted many just didn’t want to risk the “gross” showers on the road.
He explained: “The showers on that tour – they’re the grossest thing on earth, you don’t want to go near them. So instead, I’d walk the perimeter of the stadium [we were playing at] and try to find a little faucet or a tap. I’d be rooting up the sprinkler system if I had to!”
Sam eventually gave up on his dream of being a punk singer as he realised he felt “more comfortable being a fan of heavy metal and punk music than making it” and left the band in 2014.
He went on to work in the construction business with his dad before launching a vegan café with his girlfriend and taking on work as a wedding singer.
Sam eventually returned to the music business after building up a large following on TikTok with his singing. It led to him signing a deal with Parlophone and being scouted as a potential entry for the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest this year.
He added of his decision to take part in Eurovision: “The more I thought about it, the more I realised I was at the perfect point in my journey to throw all my chips on the table … I had to go for it”.
Sam came second to the Ukrainian entry and scored a huge hit with his track ‘Space Man’.

OHMYGOSSIP — Kendrick Lamar is largely mute on social media because he doesn’t want to brag about “how good” he is.
The hip-hop megastar – who is a devout Christian – wouldn’t want to get “lost in [his] ego” using apps like Instagram.
He told New York Times: “My social media, most of the time, is completely off.
“Because I know, like … I can easily smell my own s***.
“I know … Like, I’m not one of those dudes that be like, Oh, yeah, I know how good I am, but I also know the reason why I’m so good is because God’s blessed me with the talent to execute on the talent, and the moment that you start getting lost in your ego, that’s when you start going down.”
Meanwhile, when Kendrick was having doubts about his latest album, ‘Mr Morale and the Big Steppers’, it was his children who gave him the push to release the record.
The 35-year-old rapper – who has two young children with fiancée Whitney Alford – explained recently: “When I got to completion and I said, ‘I may or may not put this out; I’m not going to put this out; it’s way too much,’ I thought about my children.
“I thought about when they turn 21, or they’re older in life, and when I got grandchildren, or if I’m long gone — this can be a prerequisite of how to cope. That’s the beauty of it for me.”
Kendrick learned to understand unconditional love from his children.
The ‘Humble’ rapper believes it is important to let his family grow up to make their own decisions and have their own experiences.
He said: “A lot of times, we play with the idea and don’t necessarily know if it’s real, until you feel it.
“My children allowed me, in their development as human beings beginning to walk and talk, to remove my ego, to know that my children, too, will have their own independence.
“That allows me to understand the unconditional love on my end.
“Will I allow them to be themselves? Will I allow them to journey off in the world and experience life for what they know of? That’s love, to me.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ has set a Spotify record for the most plays in a single day.
The Queen of Christmas’ 1994 smash hit was streamed a whopping 21.273 million times in 24 hours.
She has broken the title previously held by Adele’s ‘Easy On Me’, which totted up 19.747 million streams in one day in 2021.
The record-breaking news comes after Mariah was accused of telling a “tall tale” over her claim she came up with ‘All I Want for Christmas’ as a child.
Her co-writer and producer of the festive hit, Walter Afanasieff, 64, poured scepticism on the singer’s claim she wrote the song as a child on her Casio keyboard.
Mariah’s former collaborator told the ‘Hot Takes and Deep Dives’ podcast: “We were both on the same page about how we wrote ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’, there was never any alternate story until probably 10 years ago.
“When she started to hint at the fact that, ‘Oh, I wrote that song when I was a little girl!’ But why weren’t you saying that for 12 or 13 or 15 years prior to that? So it just sort of developed in her mind.
“She doesn’t play anything, she doesn’t play keyboard or piano. She doesn’t understand music, she doesn’t know chord changes and music theory or anything like that.
“She doesn’t know a diminished chord from a minor seventh chord to a major seventh chord.
“So to claim that she wrote a very complicated chord-structured song with her finger on a Casio keyboard when she was a little girl, it’s kind of a tall tale.”
Walter – who won the 1999 Grammy award in the Record of the Year category for producing ‘My Heart Will Go On’ by Celine Dion – added he and Mariah, 53, came up with the 1994 track together while working on three original songs for her then-upcoming ‘Merry Christmas’ album.
The pair are credited equally on ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’, and Walter did concede Mariah was largely responsible for the melodies and lyrics, while he was behind the music and the chords.
Mariah told Billboard in 2017 about the song’s creation: “I am proud of this song that I wrote basically as a kid on my little Casio keyboard.”
Then in 2019 she told Cosmopolitan magazine: “I just sat down, decorated a little tree and put on ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ and tried to get into that mood.
“Then I sat in this small room with a keyboard and started doing little melodies and stuff. I was going over all the things I think about at Christmas time that make me happy and how to turn it around and make it into a love song.”
Walter said the same year that Mariah “definitely does not share credit where credit is due” when it comes to the track and said he and his family have been trolled by Mariah fanatics as a result of such claims.

OHMYGOSSIP — Aled Jones and Russell Watson found it “pretty easy” to choose songs for their festive album.
The pair have joined forces on ‘Christmas with Aled and Russell’ and had fun selecting modern festive songs to go alongside traditional carols on the record.
Aled said: “It was pretty easy actually. He does a list, I do list, the record company might come up with a few, invariably there’s tracks on both our lists that are the same.
“On this one we tried to mix things up a little bit, so not just Christmas carols, but Christmas songs, pop songs like ‘A Spaceman Came Travelling’, and ‘It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas’, along with the stuff you’d expect us to do.”
Aled shot to fame when he was just 14 years old thanks to his cover version of ‘The Snowman’ theme ‘Walking in the Air’ and he admitted it has been “special” to sing the song with his friend because Russell has always made jokes about his association with the festive favourite.
He said: “I’d never sung it with anyone else before but I decided to do it with Russ because last five Christmases wherever he is he keeps sending me photos of himself with various sizes snowmen in department stores and he thinks that I laugh uncontrollably, bless him.
“It’s a special moment for me to sing it with him. It’s his first Christmas album, I’ve done loads of Christmas albums over the years. Being able to do this song with him is great.”
While Aled admitted he used to get “embarrassed” by the song, he’s now very proud of it.
Asked if he is tired of his association with the song and film, he said: “Not at all.
“Look, I’d be lying if I didn’t say that when I was at college I would get embarrassed by it. But now I’m at an age where I look back on it fondly. Goodness me, it opened so many doors for me.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Ari Lennox’s ‘Age/Sex/Location’ tour will be her last.
The 31-year-old singer has announced she is set to quit touring after the final jaunt across North America, which kicks off on January 26 at the House of Blues in Las Vegas, and wraps in Washington D.C. on March 29.
Ari – who released the album of the same name on J. Cole’s Dreamville record label in September – dealt a blow to European fans as the tour will not be coming across the pond, “due to reasons out of my control”.
She tweeted: “Age Sex Location will be my last tour. I love my genuine fans so much and can’t wait to give you my all every night!! Europe I love you but unfortunately there will not be a tour due to reasons out of my control. Happy holidays. See you soon Vegas!”
A year ago, Ari was arrested in Amsterdam after “reacting” to allegedly being “racially” profiled by a member of staff at KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.
She told fans at the time: “I’m being arrested in Amsterdam for reacting to a woman racially profiling me.
“F*** Amsterdam security. They hate black people.”
She was arrested for disturbing public order.
A KLM spokesperson said at the time: “There was an altercation … about seeing her identification.
“The lady did not show the correct document. When the employee confronted her, she drew the wrong conclusions.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Thom Bell has died.
The Grammy Award-winning producer – who was best known as one of the Mighty Three co-creators of the Sound of Philadelphia along with Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff – passed away on Thursday (22.12.22) at the age of 79.
No cause of death was given but Thom’s publicist said he passed away at his home in Bellingham, Washington.
As well as working with Kenny and Leon on tracks including the O’Jays’ ‘Back Stabbers’ and Harold Melvina and the Blue Notes’ ‘I Miss You’, Thom – who was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2006 – also wrote a string of hits for the likes of The Delfonics, The Stylistics, and The Spinners in the late 1960s and 70s.
Thom went on to compose and produce albums for the likes of The Temptations, Johnny Mathis, Sir Elton John and Joss Stone, and received a lifetime achievement honour from the Recording Academy in the form of a trustees’ award in 2017 after previously being honoured with the first non-classical producer of the year accolade at the 1975 Grammy Awards.
He is survived by his wife, Vanessa Bell, and children Royal, Troy, Tia, Mark, Cybell and Christopher.
Both Kenny and Leon have paid tribute to their late friend and collaborator.
Kenny said: “Tommy and I have been best friends for over 60 years.
“When we first met, we decided to start writing songs together and form a singing duo ‘Kenny and Tommy’ and then our band the Romeos. Leon Huff and I were proud to have him as part of our Mighty Three music writing team, which helped create our signature brand of TSOP. He was a great talent and my dear friend. The name of Gamble Huff and Bell will last forever. Rest in peace buddy!”
Leon added: “Thom Bell was my favourite musician, arranger, songwriter and music producer of all time. It was my esteem, honour and pleasure to work with him creatively and as a business partner. Rest in peace.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Tiffany is working on her autobiography sharing her “struggle” in the music industry.
The ‘I Think We’re Alone Now’ hitmaker has revealed she is starting to take “notes” for the unannounced project, which she has teased as an “interested read” into the business and her own journey.
She told Classic Pop magazine: “Well… currently behind the scenes, yes. I’m taking notes.
“We’re putting it all together and it’s going to be an interesting read about the music industry, where it’s taken me, how they discarded me and how I’ve had to say, ‘No I’m not done’.
“It’s been a struggle. But, you know, I didn’t give up. This is what I do.”
The 51-year-old star admitted the biggest misconception about her comes from people not realising the battles she’s had in life, and how that informs her music.
She explained: “Probably that I’m just a one hit wonder and that I was manufactured. But I’m deeper than a lot of people think.
“I’ve been through the hard knocks. I’ve had a lot of grief in my life, losing family members and friends. I’ve taken care of elderly relatives.
“I’ve done things that people in real life do and then put those experiences into my music.”
Despite ‘I Think We’re Alone Now’ being her most recognisable track, Tiffany shrugged off the idea of the song being a “millstone around [her] neck”.
She added: “It’s not. I know at the end of my life it’s going to be a highlight, but there’s something about that song that makes people feel good. I’m forever grateful for that.
“I didn’t want to record it. It’s grown on me and it’s always a highlight of the live show. I never get upset about having to sing it.”

OHMYGOSSIP — ABBA learned to bring variety to their music from The Beatles.
Benny Andersson – who co-wrote the group’s iconic hits with bandmate Björn Ulvaeus – revealed how the Fab Four inspired the ‘Thank You For The Music’ hitmakers to have such a diverse sound.
He told Record Collector magazine: “That’s something we learned from The Beatles.
“They were always with their style in a way, much more than we were, but what they did was, you heard a song with them, then the next single was nothing close to the previous one, or the third, or the fourth, or the fifth.
“At that time, you needed to have some diversity, no?”
ABBA – completed by singers Agnetha Fältskog and Frida Lyngstad – used that outlook on their own records, while having two vocalists also gave their sound a boost.
Benny added: “So, you have ‘Fernando’, you want a song like ‘Dancing Queen’ or ‘My Mama Said’, or whatever on that album, to give it some listening value.
“And another great thing, I have to say, that goes for many of the bands that I like, is that you have more than one singer; it helps you.
“You have John [Lennon] and Paul [McCartney], or you have Fleetwood Mac, you have the Eagles: it’s great to have two singers, because that makes a difference between the tracks as well.”
Meanwhile, Benny revealed how ‘Mamma Mia’ was the first track where the band realised what they could achieve with their music.
He explained: “I think ‘Mamma Mia’ was when we realised, ‘Well this is special, now we find out exactly what we can achieve with a song if you work enough on it’, you know?
“You’re in the studio, and you see, ‘Oh, there’s a marimba there, let’s see if we can use it’ – that’s sort of special, there’s not much marimba [in other pop songs[.
“But then also it was really arranged, you know? It wasn’t just strumming along. Everyone was playing exactly the notes that were needed.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Fatboy Slim was worried he’d never tour again after the pandemic.
The ‘Praise You’ hitmaker – whose real name is Norman Cook – admitted he wasn’t sure what the future of music would look like after widespread lockdowns around the world due to the spread of COVID-19.
Appearing on the ‘Smallzy’s Surgery’ podcast, he said: “Yeah, yeah, obviously. In all those hours sitting staring at the walls, a lot of things come to you.
“One of them was that the world would never be the same. Even when we came back, what we do is the opposite of social distancing, we encourage people to get together and lick each other’s faces and share bodily fluids.
“I was aware that that could be the end for us, the human race. Then, obviously, at my age you can’t take it for granted that people will still want you.”
The 59-year-old DJ and producer noted that the pandemic made people really miss the “feeling of communinty” that live music provides.
He explained: “One thing we learned during lockdown was we need that sense of conneciton, to get out and share a feeling of community and solidarity.”
Meanwhile, the musician also reflected on his biggest hits and admitted he can be surprised by the things that really catch on with fans and take a life of their own.
He said: “With the bigger tunes, I’ve thought yeah, this is quite good. I didn’t guess the longevity that they’d still be here 20 years later.
“What I hadn’t picked up on is the way the lyrics – ‘Right Here, Right Now’ just never meant anything in the first place, but it means so much to people!”
He added: “It stirs people at sporting events and things like that. I didn’t realise it at the time, and maybe that’s one of my talents, the genius of coming up with a meme that means everything yet nothing.”

OHMYGOSSIP — The Strokes had a magical experience working with Rick Rubin.
The ‘Late Nite’ hitmakers are yet to officially announced their seventh album – the follow-up to 2020’s ‘The New Abnormal’ – but they teamed up with the legendary producer in the mountains in Costa Rica.
Reflecting on the sessions, guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. told Maxim: “I don’t think if I told you what it looked like and what it was, you’d fully understand the ‘magical-ness’ of where we were and how it was to record like that.
“It felt really touching that one of his favorite recording experiences was this one he just had right now.”
Although there is no timeline on the next LP, Albert admitted the collection could be even better than their iconic 2001 debut ‘Is This It’.
He teased: “I really think what excites me about wanting to play music and continue doing it is, I don’t think we’ve written our best songs yet. I really feel that in my gut.”
Meanwhile, he’s delighted the group have had such longevity, and he is grateful to have such a long lasting career.
He added: “I can’t believe I still get to play music… I take nothing for granted.”
Rubin first teamed up with the band in 2017, when they first started working on ‘The New Abnormal’, which included singles such as ‘Bad Decisions’ and ‘The Adults Are Talking’.
Back in October, he revealed: “A few months ago I was in Costa Rica, recording a new album with The Strokes, and we rented this house up on the top of a mountain and set the band up outside.
“So they’re playing… It’s like they’re doing a concert for the ocean, on the top of a mountain. It was incredible.
“And we did that every day, playing out in the [open], and they didn’t want to leave. It was, like, the best experience.”

OHMYGOSSIP — LadBaby has broken a chart record previously held by The Beatles.
The YouTube star – whose real name is Mark Ian Hoyle – creates music videos alongside his wife Roxanne and has scored his fifth consecutive Christmas number one with a sausage roll-themed version of Band Aid classic ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ in collaboration with businessman Martin Lewis, smashing the record of four festive chart-toppers scored by the Fab Four in 1963, 1964, 1965 and 1967.
LadBaby told the Official Charts company: “We want to say thank you to everyone who has supported us for the last five years. A massive apology to the Beatles, and to all Beatles fans … The charity wins. The Trussell Trust gets Christmas No 1 again. Thank you to all the people who have downloaded, all the people who believed in us and brought a bit of Christmas magic. We love you all. Yes mate!”
LadBaby – who donate the proceeds from all of their festive tunes to charity – scored their first Christmas number one in 2018 with a sausage roll-themed parody of classic rock song ‘We Built This City’ and continued the tradition with ‘I Love Rock n’ Roll’ parody ‘I Love Sausage Rolls’, and ‘Don’t Stop Me Eatin’ before teaming up with pop superstars Ed Sheeran and Sir Elton John in 2021 for the release of ‘Sausage Rolls For Everyone.’
The Hoyles added: “We never intended to release a fifth Christmas single but as ambassadors of the Trussell Trust we were not prepared to sit back and do nothing in a year when people are struggling more than ever!”
