OHMYGOSSIP — The Lathums and Red Rum Club are set to rock the inaugural This Feeling By The Sea festival at Bridlington Spa.
The UK’s buzziest guitar bands will come together on August 18 and 19 for the huge all-new indoor event in East Yorkshire, England.
The Lathums and Red Rum Club will headline on Saturday and Friday night, respectively.
The Friday line-up will also include The K’s, local outfit The Feens and This Feeling Records-signees Spangled and Komparrison.
Saturday will see performances from The Lottery Winners, CVC, and This Feeling Records’ next wave talents, Overpass, who are hot off a support slot with Inhaler, and Rolla, who recently opened for Kasabian on their arena tour, plus The Lilacs.
The Lathums commented: “It’s a pleasure to be invited to play Bridlington Spa, we can’t wait to play some new tunes from the album. We’ll see you soon for a little dance.”
Red Rum Club said: “Buzzing to be playing the big room in Bridlington Spa this summer for This Feeling. A great group of people who got behind us in the early days. We know we will be sharing a stage with the next up-and-comers of the UK music scene.”
This Feeling’s George Holmes said: “We’re buzzing to be hosting a huge summer party at Bridlington Spa in the iconic ‘Royal Hall’. Having played host to the likes of The Rolling Stones in the ‘60s to Oasis in the ‘00s, it’s time for the next generation of rock ‘n’ roll stars to take the stage.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Judas Priest singer Rob Halford thinks Ozzy Osbourne made the “right” decision to retire from touring.
The ‘Breaking the Law’ rockers were due to support the Black Sabbath legend in Europe and the UK and Ireland later this year, but last month he confirmed he was halting live performances due to ongoing health issues.
Reflecting on the news, Rob told Metal Hammer magazine: “It was terrible for him to have to make that important – and, to be honest, right – decision. He made the right call.
“I don’t think he wanted to put himself through a thing where it’s like ‘Okay, we’ll have a go,’ then have to cancel after a couple of shows.
“Even though there’s a lot of love for him and a lot of care and understanding, I’ve seen what the British metal maniacs have been saying and it’s exactly how I feel too – put your feet up, you’ve earned it!”
Although Rob hasn’t spoken to Ozzy since the heartbreaking announcement, he text him after his recent Grammy Award success and heaped praise on his legacy in the rock world.
He added: “He’s done so much for his fans, and we all know how bad he feels about having to cancel because he lives for those fans.”
Ozzy – who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2003 and suffered a serious fall, neck surgery, and other medical issues in 2019 – confirmed last week that he is no longer “physically capable” of going on tour as he is still recovering from multiple spinal operations.
In a heartbreaking statement, he began: “This is probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to share with my loyal fans. As you may all know, four years ago, this month, I had a major accident, where I damaged my spine.
“My one and only purpose during this time has been to get back on stage. My singing voice is fine. However, after three operations, stem cell treatments, endless physical therapy sessions, and most recently groundbreaking Cybernics (HAL) Treatment, my body is still physically weak.”
The 74-year-old singer’s team is working out a way for Ozzy to perform without travelling to different cities.
Addressing future performances, he said: “Never would I have imagined that my touring days would have ended this way.
“My team is currently coming up with ideas for where I will be able to perform without having to travel from city to city and country to country. (sic)”

OHMYGOSSIP — Cher has teamed up with her boyfriend Alexander “A.E.” Edwards to make new music.
The 76-year-old star has confirmed she is heading to England to work on two new albums, and the 37-year-old music producer has given her some of the new tunes.
She told E!: “I’m going to England to make two albums. Some of the songs Alexander gave me, so I’m pretty excited about that.
“He’s a producer and a writer and he does everything, so I’m happy about that. I think like any artist when you’ve got something good, you’re excited.”
Cher is also getting “in shape” ahead of a possible tour.
She added: “I’m trying to get myself in shape.”
The ‘Believe’ hitmaker recently admitted that while her current relationship may seem “kind of ridiculous” to some because of the 40-year age gap, it still works in “real life” because of how well she and Alexander get along, and she noted that older men didn’t seem to be too keen on her.
She said: “On paper it’s kind of ridiculous but in real life we get along great. He’s fabulous, and I don’t give men qualities that they don’t deserve. But he’s very kind, he’s very smart. He’s very talented and he’s really funny so, and I think he’s quite handsome.
“If I hadn’t met younger men in my life I would’ve never had a date. Older men just didn’t like me all that much. … Younger men don’t care if you’re, you know, funny or outrageous and want to do stupid things and you have a strong personality. I’m not giving up my personality for anybody.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Miley Cyrus’ new album is divided into two sides.
The ‘Flowers’ hitmaker has explained that one half of the follow-up to 2020’s ‘Plastic Hearts’ is full of “buzz and energy” and is called the AM and the PM side is the “wild side”.
She said in a teaser clip from her Disney special ‘Miley Cyrus ‒ Endless Summer Vacation (Backyard Sessions)’: “The AM part is representing the morning time where there’s a buzz, an energy, and new possibilities and PM part it’s like slinky, glamour, it’s a time to rest or go out and experience the wild side.”
The special, which is set to premiere on Friday, 10 March, at 6pm GMT on Disney+, will see the pop star give songs from her eagerly-awaited LP, ‘Endless Summer Vacation’, their live debut, including the smash-hit lead single ‘Flowers’.
The 30-year-old star will perform “seven additional tracks from the album, one of her chart-topping classic hits and a special performance with Rufus Wainwright.”
The ‘Midnight Sky’ hitmaker launched the ‘Backyard Sessions’ series back in 2012.
Miley also served as executive producer of the Disney special.
Meanwhile, SZA recently teased a collaboration with Miley.
The chart-topping pair congratulated each other after Miley’s ‘Flowers’ became her first number one single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and SZA’s recent chart success with ‘Kill Bill’ from her LP ‘SOS’.
SZA tweeted: “MAJOR congrats to Miley !!! Excited for her album and to work together.”
And the ‘Malibu’ singer responded: “You are KILLING it. Congratulations! Sending love.”
Mley said she is “endlessly thankful” to her fans for making ‘Flowers’ a record-breaking hit.
She tweeted: “Celebrating “Flowers” being #1 around the world again this week! I love that this record is connecting in such a positive way and it’s a pleasure to continue creating music for you. These milestones are only made possible by the listeners and my incredible fans. Endlessly thankful. (sic)”
The song, which was released on December 31, garnered a record-breaking 101+ million streams on Spotify within the first week of release.
By January 19, Miley had beaten Adele’s Spotify record with the hit being streamed 96,032,624 times, toppling the latter’s ‘Easy On Me’ record.

OHMYGOSSIP — U2 are “anxious” to release their “guitar-driven” LP.
Frontman Bono put a planned album called ‘Songs of Ascent’ on hold because he wants U2 to release a “noisy, uncompromising, unreasonable guitar album” first.
The frontman revealed in October that the upcoming record – which the group have been teasing since 2009 – won’t be their next LP because he is keen to first drop a rock record.
He said in October: “We all make mistakes. The progressive-rock virus gets in, and we needed a vaccine. The discipline of our songwriting, the thing that made U2 – top-line melody, clear thoughts – had gone.
“With the band, I was like, this is not what we do, and we can only do that experimental stuff if we have the songwriting chops. So we went to songwriting school, and we’re back and we’re good! Over those two albums, ‘Songs Of Innocence and Experience’, our songwriting returned. Now we need to put the firepower of rock ‘n’ roll back.
“I don’t know who is going to make our f***-off rock ‘n’ roll album. You almost want an AC/DC, you want Mutt Lange. The approach. The discipline. The songwriting discipline. That’s what we want.”
And now, guitarist The Edge has teased that the Irish rock legends are hoping to put the album out ASAP.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, he said: “As soon as possible.
“But, of course, that’s just who I am. I think Bono is of the same ilk. We’re anxious and would love to get them out, but there will be a lot of options and other advice we’ll be taking about when to drop some new material. But just to say, we’ve been busy and very inspired creating new stuff.”
Asked what Bono means by a guitar album, The Edge said: “Personally, I feel like the guitar as an instrument … not in terms of being loved and played by so many musicians around the world, both professional and amateur, but in terms of its presence in the streaming music charts, it’s been in the wilderness for a little while. I feel myself that there’s a resurgence of interest in guitar. I sort of feel it instinctually. It’s starting to percolate up. I feel the timing is right.
“I think it would be wonderful and very welcome for us to make some music that is more driven by guitar. That is the intention. That isn’t to say we are turning into AC/DC, but we will find a way to use the instrument in a fresh way as much as possible. It’s still my first love for me as an instrument.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Morrissey is set for two huge outdoor shows this July.
The former Smiths frontman will play London’s Crystal Palace Park on July 9, and Leeds Millennium Square on July 12.
Morrissey, 63, is also embarking on a European tour, including a sold-out date at London’s Eventim Apollo on March 19.
The ‘Panic’ singer recently revealed he is seeking a “record label or private investor” to put out his new album ‘Without Music The World Dies’.
The musician – who was dropped by BMG in 2020 – left Capitol Records, as well as his management company, in December after signing a deal the previous year and has accused them of refusing to release his 14th solo LP ‘Bonfire Of Teenagers’.
And he’s since announced another album he’s hoping to release, which he unveiled on his blog with the full track-listing.
At the bottom of the post, it reads: “Capitol Records Los Angeles recently terminated their contract with Morrissey, therefore if any record label or private investor has interest in releasing this project, please contact Donnie Knutson at marfagiant@gmail.com.”
The record is produced by his long-time producer Joe Chiccarelli.
Morrissey recently accused Capitol of shelving his album to “proudly” promote Sam Smith’s “satanism” on their album ‘Gloria’.
Writing on his website, Morrissey ranted: “Capitol Records (Los Angeles) proudly promotes Sam Smith’s ‘satanism’; yet they consider the honest truth of Morrissey’s factual ‘Bonfire of Teenagers’ to be their biggest threat and they will not release it despite their contractual obligation and promise to do so.”
The singer went as far as accusing Capitol of signing ‘Bonfire of Teenagers’, “in order to sabotage it”.
A statement on his website read: “Morrissey is ‘too diverse’ for Universal Music Group. Capitol Records (Los Angeles) will not, after all, release Morrissey’s 2021 album ‘Bonfire Of Teenagers’.
“At the same time, Capitol Records (Los Angeles) are holding on to the album.
“Although Morrissey officially signed to Capitol Records Los Angeles, there has been no mention of Morrissey on Capitol’s website or on their Artists roster.
“Morrissey has said that although he does not believe that Capitol Records in Los Angeles signed ‘Bonfire of Teenagers’ in order to sabotage it, he is quickly coming around to that belief.”
The ‘Big Mouth Strikes Again’ hitmaker had planned to release ‘Bonfire Of Teenagers’ this month but announced in November it had been delayed, with no new release date offered.
A brief statement at the time read: “‘Bonfire of Teenagers’ is no longer scheduled for a February release, as stated by this site.
“Its fate is exclusively in the hands of Capitol Records (Los Angeles).”

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Tom Jones, Soft Cell and Kool and The Gang have been added to the bill for Hampton Court Palace Festival 2023.
The annual summer series of spectacular open-air concerts returns to the royal landmark June 6 to June 17.
Welsh music legend Tom will top the bill on June 14, synth-pop pioneers Soft Cell – comprising Marc Almond and David Ball – headline on June 7, and funk and soul legends Kool and The Gang on June 9.
Grace Jones, Kaiser Chiefs, Bjorn Again and Rick Astley were among the first acts confirmed to play the event.
The ‘I Predict a Riot’ hitmakers headline on June 10, the ABBA parody act are set for June 16, and ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ hitmaker Rick Astley will perform on June 17.
Artists perform in an intimate 3,000-seat auditorium in Base Court, set against the backdrop of Henry VIII’s magnificent Tudor Palace and attendees can enjoy picnics, drinks and street food in the Palace Gardens, whilst waterside gazebos are also available to purchase for those that want to sit back and relax in luxury.
Last year, the likes of George Benson, Jack Savoretti, Crowded House, and Kacey Musgraves wowed at HCP Festival.

OHMYGOSSIP — Alice Cooper’s long-serving guitarist Nita Strauss has re-joined his touring band.
The 36-year-old axe-slayer was part of the group – which also includes Ryan Roxie, Tommy Henricksen, Chuck Garric, and Glen Sobel – from 2014 until 2022, but took time out to be part of pop star Demi Lovato’s touring line-up.
Alice and Nita will reunite on the ‘School’s Out’ rocker’s upcoming ‘Too Close For Comfort’ North American tour, which kicks off on April 28 in Michigan.
Alice and co will also play a number of dates on Def Leppard and Motley Crue’s joint ‘Freaks On Parade’ tour.
The 75-year-old rocker said of Nita’s returns: “She’s Back! Nita asked for a leave of absence to work with someone else, something I always encourage my band members to do. I like them to challenge themselves and try new things. I’m thankful to my old friend Kane Roberts for stepping up and filling in for her, but she’ll be back with us for the new tour that starts up in late April. It’s going to be great to have her back.”
Nita added: “From the studio to the stage, it’s always an immense honour to make music with Alice Cooper!! I’m very excited to be re-joining the band on the road for the 2023 dates, and so I’ll see you on the road in April. Let the nightmare return!”
Meanwhile, Alice’s Hollywood Vampires are to tour the UK next summer.
The rock supergroup – which also comprises Hollywood actor Johnny Depp and Aerosmith rocker Joe Perry – are to play shows across the UK and Europe in 2023 after being forced to cancel dates in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The trio – accompanied by guitarist Tommy Henriksen – play songs in tribute to the “great lost heroes of music” and perform original material from their two album releases.
Discussing the upcoming shows, Alice said: “Well, it’s already been three years since the Vampires have toured because of Covid.
“Also, Johnny has his movies, Joe’s in Aerosmith and I’m in Alice Cooper, so we have to look at that whole thing and see when we can all get a month or two off where we can go out and tour. And, we are going to be doing that, next summer coming up, 2023.
“I can’t wait to get back with the guys, I really love being in that band. My band is great and wonderful, but playing with the Vampires is an entirely different situation.”
The ‘Feed My Frankenstein’ rocker continued: “I don’t necessarily do any theatrics at all, I’m just the lead singer, in a band, and the band just happens to be one of the best bands around! It’ll be great to see Johnny and Joe and Buck and Chris and all the guys.
“We’ll be rocking these places, especially the UK, I can’t wait to get to the UK! Lock your doors, put garlic all around, because the Vampires are coming.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt says her biggest regret is the band not accepting Lady Gaga’s hit ‘Just Dance’.
The girl group – also comprising Nicole Scherzinger, Ashley Roberts, Carmit Bachar, Melody Thornton and Jessica Sutta – could have had a huge hit with the pop megastar’s breakthrough 2008 single, but they turned it down, and Kimberly insists it was not her choice.
She told new! magazine: “Lady Gaga wrote ‘Just Dance’ for the Dolls.
“It certainly wasn’t my choice to turn it down.
“She went on to make it a massive hit and it broke her career, so ultimately it was meant to be hers.
“So if there’s one song I regret not working on, it’s probably that.”
Kimberly was due to reunite for a tour with the Pussycat Dolls in 2020 but the shows were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and then in January 2021 Nicole announced the plans had been dropped entirely.
But Kimberly only found out the reunion tour had been cancelled through a fan’s Twitter post.
She said: “The way it was communicated wasn’t nice or kind to most of us.
“I found out through a fan’s tweet. I was devastated and cried my eyes out.
“We were planning a world tour and were even booked for Glastonbury.”
However, the singer admitted late last year that she is still “hopeful” the band will hit the road again.
She said: “I feel really powerless right now but I am still hopeful that it will happen.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Boygenius will headline Scotland’s Connect Festival 2023.
The indie rock supergroup – comprised of Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus – is set to take to the stage for the final night of the three day festival on August 27.
The festival will take place at Royal Highland Centre in Edinburgh between August 25-27, with Primal Scream topping the bill on the Friday night, before Fred Again take to the stage on the Saturday.
Other acts on the line-up include Franz Ferdinand, RAYE, Loyle Carner, Future Islands, Róisín Murphy, MUNA, Confidence Man, Public Service Broadcasting, Friendly Fires and Kelly Lee Owens.
Bridgers recently revealed she finds touring draining when she does it as a solo artist but she can’t wait to hit the road with her boygenius bandmates.
She told Rolling Stone magazine: “I play to thousands of people a night, and sometimes I’m mentally in a really bad place. It’s so hard to relate to people. Except for those guys. Being with them makes it so much less dark.”
Dacus added: “We feel an element of home together. We’ve been talking about picking a TV show, and after every show, watching one episode before bed. Very children’s-book vibes. I’ll give them each a little kiss on the head and tuck them in.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Martin offered Chvrches advice at the beginning of their career.
The Coldplay frontman met Chvrches star Martin Doherty back in 2014 and offered some words of wisdom on progressing with a second album.
Martin told NME: “I met Chris Martin at Radio 1’s Big Weekend just after our first album came out, and he was really lovely, and gave me some great advice about keeping up the momentum and getting in and making your second record.
“I guess what he was saying was that the chance that we had at that time was kind of unusual, and that if we could capitalise on that momentum then maybe we could turn it into a longer term career. And here we are 10 years later, still going.”
Now, the band – which also features Lauren Mayberry and Iain Cook – is set to support Coldplay during their upcoming concerts in Brazil and they are equally nervous and excited about the opportunity.
Cook said: ““No pressure! We’re gonna have a little rehearsal at the start of this before we go into the shows and just pull off the cobwebs, get ready and just go for it.”
And, Mayberry added: “My mood on it goes and swings and roundabouts. One minute I’m very excited about it, and then the realisation of what it actually is sinks in and I shit my pants. There’s a lot of pressure on everybody, but especially on the front person. I think to cover that amount of ground and figure out how to communicate and connect in that space is quite a big challenge.
“But yeah, we’re really excited and grateful for that. And I’ve been trying to get my steps in everyday guys, because I need to get my energy levels up, y’know?”

OHMYGOSSIP — Uriah Heep say people have been “making rumbles” about them being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Guitarist Mick Box – who is the only original member of the prog rock band left in the current line-up – revealed their fans are keen to launch a petition to get them honoured.
Speaking to the latest issue of Goldmine magazine, Mick said: “People have been making rumbles about it, and I think our fans are trying to get a petition together for it to get the right numbers to warrant being there.
“But I think over the years, and maybe we deserve a place, but they have a selection committee that chooses what bands go in and what bands don’t.
And there’s nothing we can do about that really.
“All I know is that we’ve been going for over 52 years now, have 25 albums, sold over 40 million albums, and have toured in 62 countries, so there is some merit for us to be there.
“Whether or not we get chosen is neither here nor there.
“And if it doesn’t happen, as usual, life goes on.”
When asked how he’d like to be remembered, humble Mick said for “inspiring” people and being a “good guitarist”.
He said: “I don’t know, as that’s a tough one. As a good guitarist and a good human being would be enough. I treat others how I want to be treated myself, and I’m very grounded in what I do. I’m one of these people who can go onstage and produce an ego to perform, but then I can leave it onstage and come back and be Joe Schmo again. They’re the elements really, and the fact that you brought so much joy to people’s lives and inspired people. The most rewarding thing for me is when people come up to me after the show and say, ‘Look, I saw you play at such and such place and you blew me away and it was fantastic and you made me want to be in music, and I now play in a band, and I just want to thank you for it.’ And that’s the most rewarding thing, inspiring people to bring music into their lives, because to be honest, music is life and life is music.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Lana Del Rey has hinted she could pull out of performing at Glastonbury.
The ‘Born to Die’ singer wasn’t impressed that organisers didn’t announce she will have one of the top slots at this year’s festival when they released the first wave of artists on the line-up earlier this week, with headliners Arctic Monkeys, Guns N’ Roses and Sir Elton John listed at the top of the promotional poster alongside Lizzo – who organiser Emily Eavis said would have headlined if the ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ hitmakers hadn’t already been promised top billing – and then the rest of the acts mentioned in alphabetical order.
Lana wrote on Instagram: “Well, I’m actually headlining the 2nd stage. But since there was no consideration for announcing that we’ll see.”
A source close to the star admitted she was “disappointed” and felt “let down”.
The insider told The Sun on Sunday newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Lana is disappointed. She was proud to be doing a headline slot, but on the announcement graphic her name is buried among lesser-known artists.
“She feels let down being presented as an afterthought lagging behind the all-male trio.”
Glastonbury organiser Emily recently addressed the backlash against the festival having all male headliners.
She said of Lizzo, who will take to the Pyramid stage in the slot before Guns N’ Roses: “She could totally headline. Many of the artists could. But the headline slot had already been promised to someone else.”
Emily – who claimed there are two women lined up to headline next year – called on the wider music industry to invest more in female musicians.
She said: “We’re trying our best so the pipeline needs to be developed. This starts way back with the record companies, radio. I can shout as loud as I like but we need to get everyone on board…
“It’s top of our agenda, and it probably makes it a bit harder because we’ve decided to make that important to us. To be honest, sometimes it’s easier to keep your head down.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Stanley has scathingly suggested KISS should be called P*** if they performed with Ace Frehley and Peter Criss again.
The 71-year-old rocker formed the band with singer Gene Simmons, guitarist Ace and drummer Peter in 1973 but the latter duo quit in the 1980s, though they have both performed with the group since then but the rhythm guitarist has no desire to get back on stage with his former bandmates again.
Paul was asked about the group’s decision not to perform at their Rock + Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2014 and branded the institution “demanding, quite honestly” as they were insistent he and Gene should perform with Ace and Peter again, not current bandmates Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer.
Speaking on ‘The Howard Stern Show’, he said: “At this point, that would be demeaning to the band, and also would give some people confusion. ‘Cause if you saw people onstage who looked like KISS but sounded like that, maybe we should be called P***.”
The ‘Crazy Crazy Nights’ hitmaker accused the Rock + Roll Hall of Fame of hypocrisy and “purposely” blocking their induction for years before they were finally included.
He said: “The hypocrisy is that we’re not a band they like. They purposely kept us out for 15 years. And other bands that they embrace, they induct people’s moms and songwriters and all these people.
“And with us, it truly was unfair. Because we had too much pride in this line-up, which is KISS, and has been KISS for 20 years. It’s not newcomers. … This is the band that has carried the flag and taken it, really, to another level. This is the band I always dreamed it would be.”

The songwriting pals first met in 1989 while working at the same recording studio and worked together for almost three decades.
And while recalling working on their 1998 LP ‘Painted From Memory’, Costello said he found Bacharach to be an “extremist” when it came to music and love.
Speaking to Uncut magazine, Costello said: “Making ‘Painted From Memory’, Burt told me, ‘I don’t demand 110 per cent anymore, I settle for 98.’ Listen to the music in the bridge of ‘Alfie’, for which Hal David wrote: ‘Until you find the love you’ve missed, you’re nothing.’ Burt is an extremist for sure. Extreme in love and invention.”
On the same subject, Costello recently recalled Bacharach putting him in his place in the studio.
The 68-year-old Grammy winner said the legendary composer was a “very considerate” person, but when it came to music, he had the kind of rigorous approach that “makes you fall in line”.
In an interview with The Times newspaper, Costello said Bacharach – who died from natural causes aged 94 on February 8 – was: “Very considerate, but he won’t let anything get in the way of the music, and all the geniality and elegance on the surface of the songs hides the power at the heart of them.”
He continued: “Once he gets the shape of a melody he won’t negotiate. ‘Could I get a triplet, so I can use it against this three-syllable word?’ — ‘No, you can’t.’ After a while, the sheer rigour of his approach makes you fall into line.”
Costello admits these kinds of “chance encounters” are rare today because a lot of artists work remotely.
He said: “These are the chance encounters that don’t happen today because now everyone makes albums on their laptops.
“I had been using a marimba with the same suspension as [that in the Bacharach classic] ’24 Hours from Tulsa’, as a gesture of acknowledgment really. He was down the hallway so I asked him to listen.”
Asked what the ‘What the World Needs Now Is Love’ hitmaker thought, Costello replied: “He was gentlemanly about it.”
Upon the sad news of Bacharach’s death, which happened before the release of the boxset ‘The Songs of Bacharach and Costello’ on March 3, Costello admitted he’s devastated that the pair won’t get to collaborate again.
He said: “I am very sad today. But Burt Bacharach means the same to me this morning as he did at midnight on Wednesday, when the call came. I have to accept that there will not be the next song that he — or even we — might still be about to write. I will always struggle to think of him in the past tense.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Gary Rossington, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s last surviving original member, has died aged 71.
The co-founding member of the legendary Florida rock band, who had cheated death a number of times in past, passed away on Sunday (05.03.23).
The group announced in a Facebook statement: “It is with our deepest sympathy and sadness that we have to advise, that we lost our brother, friend, family member, songwriter and guitarist, Gary Rossington, today.
“Gary is now with his Skynyrd brothers and family in heaven and playing it pretty, like he always does.
“Please keep Dale, Mary, Annie and the entire Rossington family in your prayers and respect the family’s privacy at this difficult time.”
No cause of death is known at this time.
Gary was fortunate to survive a car accident in 1976, which saw him drive his Ford Torino into a tree.
In 1977, a plane crash killed the band’s singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, and backing vocalist Cassie Gaines, however, Gary survived with two broken arms, a broken leg, and a punctured stomach and liver.
He also battled with drug and alcohol addictions and heart-related issues.
In 2019, the lead and rhythm guitarist underwent emergency heart surgery and was forced to skip the band’s US shows.
A statement read at the time: “Our thoughts and prayers are with Gary Rossington as he recovers from emergency heart surgery. Gary is home resting and recovering with his family at home. He wants everyone to know he is doing good and expects a full recovery.
“After this past year, the country being shut down and everything we have all been thru, The Rossingtons encouraged the band to go perform in his absence. Music is a powerful healer! We all felt playing the shows and bringing the music to y’all was a better option than cancelling the performances.
“We wish Gary a speedy recovery and we will see the Skynyrd Nation very soon!
“Please do us a favour and say some prayers for the Rossington family and if you would like to leave him a (positive) message please do! He will look forward to reading them! (sic).”
He had undergone quintuple bypass surgery in 2003, before suffering a heart attack in 2015.
Gary gave up his baseball dreams to pursue music after being inspired The Rolling Stones.
The band came about after He and his bandmates Ronnie and Bob Burns met while playing on rival Jacksonville baseball teams.
They would jam together and were later joined by guitarist Allen Collins and bassist Larry Junstrom. They went through several band name changes before arriving at Lynyrd Skynyrd, the same name as Gary’s high school sports coach and the character in the novelty tune ‘Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh’.
The group has released 14 studio albums, the last being 2012’s ‘Last of a Dyin’ Breed’.
