Tulisa Contostavlos nearly quit N-Dubz just moments before they ‘cracked it’

OHMYGOSSIP — Tulisa Contostavlos was paid £50 to join N-Dubz, but she nearly quit the group just before they “made it”.
The 36-year-old singer, who is part of the ‘I Need You’ hitmakers alongside her cousin Dappy and their friend Fazer, admitted Dappy’s father, her Uncle B, offered her £20 to join the group when she was 11 years old, but she upped the price to £50.
Speaking on reality TV show ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’, she said: “My uncle offered me 20 quid and then I bartered him up to 50. Then I said, ‘You’ve got a deal.’
“We were in the studio training ourselves from the age of 11 until the age of 17, when we actually got some success.
“We already had so many years grafting away. From the age of 11, that’s all we did.
“At the moment we made it, I was at the sort of ‘give up’ phase.
“I had been there since I was 11 and I was 17 and it wasn’t happening.
“I always believed I was going to make it with the group. I never had a doubt.
“Then I got to 17 and after so many years of doing it I did have this little falter moment, where I was like, ‘Oh crap, what if this doesn’t happen? What if this doesn’t work out – what have I got to back it up?’
“And it was in that moment, literally in a few months, when for the first time in my life I felt that sensation … that’s when we finally cracked it.
“It just goes to show in all situations, hang on in there guys.”
Tulisa also told how N-Dubz is a nod to NW, the North West London postcode.
When asked by her campmate Oti Mabuse what N-Dubz stands for, she said: “North West London postcode. NW.”

Serj Tankian had ’emotionally checked out’ of System of a Down

OHMYGOSSIP — Serj Tankian had “emotionally checked out” of System of a Down long before they went on hiatus.
The ‘Chop Suey’ group haven’t released an album since 2005’s ‘Hypnotize’ and the 57-year-old singer admitted he became “very passive” in the final days of the group because he was in a “weird place” at the time.
He told Metal Hammer magazine: “I had a very unique relationship with the last few records because I had, to a certain degree, emotionally checked out of the band while making them.
“Because of the push and pull, I became very passive.
“There was music I wanted to bring in that I felt like I couldn’t… I was in a weird place.
“I contributed creatively but I didn’t… I don’t know. I needed oxygen – I felt like there was too much going on.”
However, the ‘Sugar’ singer thinks ‘Hypnotize’ and its predecessor, ‘Mezmerize’, feature “great” songs and making the records still had some “beautiful moments”, even if it wasn’t a good time in his life.
He said: “Recording [the albums] had its beautiful moments.
“I still think those songs are great.
“But when I think back on it, I also remember that it was a weird phase of my life and that’s something I have to be aware of as well.
“We really enjoyed recording the albums at Rick Rubin’s place in Laurel Canyon, right across from the Houdini house.”
Once the group went on hiatus in 2006, it was “incredibly important” for Serj to keep working.
He said: “It was incredibly important for me to stay active.
“I was writing songs while on the buss for Ozzfest.
“To a certain degree, I felt I couldn’t do everything I wanted to within the realms of the band and that’s fine – I don’t think anybody can.
“I had a vision for what I wanted to do and wanted to present a new vision, so I wrote the songs separately and ultimately put it out as my first solo record, ‘Elect The Dead’, a year after we announced the hiatus.”

Fatboy Slim blasts Oasis for ‘ripping off’ fans

OHMYGOSSIP — Fatboy Slim has blasted Oasis for “ripping off” fans with their tour prices.
The ‘Champagne Supernova’ group were heavily criticised for using dynamic pricing – where ticket costs escalate in response to demand – when their UK reunion tour dates went on sale, and the DJ has branded the policy “sick” because it is a legal way of “scalping” audiences.
The ‘Praise You’ hitmaker – whose real name is Norman Cook – told The Sun on Sunday newspaper’s Bizarre column: “The only problem I have got is with scalping the fans.
“That dynamic pricing, that is ripping off the fans. It is like auctioning tickets because you know they are doing well.
“It is bad enough with the touts doing it, but the actual promoter and band doing it, it is sick.”
And the 61-year-old star insisted he always wants to keep his own tickets as “cheap” as possible.
He added: “As far as I know, it has never happened on my watch. I get a say on making tickets, on the whole, cheap. I always say, ‘Let’s have a fair price’.
“Ticket prices are so exorbitant. It is just profit for people who are very, very rich already — and that is for the bands and the promoters.
“I can’t see how you can justify making it even more expensive, just because you know you have got a gig that everybody wants to go to.”
But Norman praised Coldplay for using their ticket prices to give back to struggling venues in order to boost live music around the country.
He said: “I really f****** hate Coldplay. At least, I did until they announced their new arena tour and they announced they are giving ten per cent of the whole ticket prices for the whole tour, which will help keep smaller venues going.
“That is the dynamic pricing you should be having. They are not making lots of money, they just want to survive. They just love to see rock n’n’ roll.
“New bands have to have somewhere to come.”

Mercury Prize-winners English Teacher have a ‘theme’ in mind for second album

OHMYGOSSIP — English Teacher have “already mapped out” the “theme” for their follow-up to their Mercury Prize-winning LP ‘This Could Be Texas’.
The post-punk rock band – comprising Lily Fontaine, Lewis Whiting, Douglas Frost, and Nicholas Eden – took home the prestigious prize for their acclaimed debut album, which was released in April, at this year’s ceremony, beating the likes of Charli XCX’s ‘Brat’ and The Last Dinner Party’s ‘Prelude to Ecstasy’.
And just six months after releasing the record – which tackled several societal issues – the ‘Nearly Daffodils’ group are already starting to shape their next studio effort.
Frontwoman Lily told Uncut magazine of their plans for 2025: “Writing is what I am most excited about.
“We have a few songs written, but we’d like some time to get together outside of touring to collate them into the next body of work.
“I already have the theme mapped out in my brain, and we are hoping to schedule some demo time before Christmas.”
Winning the prestigious prize – which has previously been won by the likes of Arctic Monkeys, PJ Harvey, Wolf Alice, The xx and Skepta – came as a “complete shock” to the band and it gave them “real validation”.
She said: “It was the award we wanted to win more than any other. If you look at the people who have won it in the past, it’s the artists that inspired me to make music, so to see your name alongside those people is a real validation. This is a prize for the curation of an album – it celebrates a body of work and that means a lot.”
Lily continued: “We had no warning, so winning came as a complete shock and we hadn’t prepared a speech. I think you can tell, because I thanked “our pub” instead of “our producer”.
We had a party at The Lexington afterwards and quite a few other nominees came, which was special as we hadn’t had a chance to speak to anybody at the event.”

Taylor Swift performs Us with Gracie Abrams

OHMYGOSSIP — Taylor Swift brought out Gracie Abrams for a performance of ‘Us’ at a show in Canada over the weekend (16-17.11.24).
The pop superstar – who co-wrote the track and recorded it with Gracie – thrilled fans by bringing her opening act back out on to the stage to perform the Grammy-nominated song during the show in Toronto, Canada on Saturday night (16.11.24) and Taylor told the audience they will always remember the “genius, brilliant young woman”.
She said: “This is always one of my favourite parts of the night. I was kind of thinking about what to do tonight. ‘The Eras Tour’ has been going on for like a year and five or six months, a year and a half now.
“And so a lot of life can happen in the phase of that tour. Like art can happen in the course of that tour. And I think you’ll remember the genius, brilliant young woman you saw tonight.”
She went on to reveal they wrote the song after Gracie was nominated for Best New Artist at the last Grammy Awards.
Taylor explained: “So, storytime, Gracie was opening up for me a year ago on the Eras Tour. We had so many fun memories during that tour.
“Part of that was we were celebrating her getting nominated for best new artist at the Grammys. We went out, and we had like eleventy-hundred cosmos and went back to my house, and we just started writing a song, and the coolest thing ever has happened this week.”
‘Us’ was nominated in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category for the 2025 Grammy Awards – and Taylor revealed the pair were “screeching” down the phone to each other when they heard the news.
She explained: “It was just screeching, it wasn’t even words. It was just feral screeching for the entire call, and we were so excited about that, and we wanted to figure out a way to say thank you to you so we put together a little something, so will you please welcome to the stage the magnificent Gracie Abrams.”
As well as performing ‘Us’, the pair also performed a mash-up of Taylor’s song ‘Out of the Woods’. Taylor went on to perform ‘You’re On Your Own, Kid’ and ‘Long Story Short’ in her piano selection.

Myles Kennedy and Slash cooking up new music

OHMYGOSSIP — Myles Kennedy has been working on “some ideas” for new music with Slash.
The rockers last teamed up on their side project Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators’ 2022 LP ‘4’, and the Alter Bridge frontman has confirmed he and the Guns N’ Roses axe-slayer have been cooking up some new material and will have the instruments recorded in November, but Myles isn’t sure when he can fit in time to record his vocals yet.
He quipped to Guitar Interactive Magazine: “It’s official – we’re making a polka record! Haha, no, seriously, we’ve been working on some ideas while we were touring earlier this year, and I’m really excited about them.
“The question for me is how I fit into the equation with my schedule, but they’ve decided to record the instruments in November, and I’ll come back around to finish the vocals when I can. I’m getting ready to tour, so it’s just about finding time, but with technology, I can stay updated. Slash will send me a text with an update so I can keep working on my parts.”
Earlier this year, the pair brought ‘The River Is Rising – Rest of the World Tour’ to the UK.
Meanwhile, Slash recently declared that next year is “all about Guns N’ Roses”.
The guitar hero said they are “trying to make” their first record since 2008’s ‘Chinese Democracy’ and that talks were underway for a small tour.
He told Loudwire Nights: “I’m going into the studio with the Conspirators [his project with Myles Kennedy], getting a new record done and then after that, 2025 is all about Guns N’ Roses.
“We’re trying to get some things going with that. I think there’s a small tour in the summertime next year. I heard a rumour about that anyway, so that’s going to be focused on that. But prior to that, it’s the S.E.R.P.E.N.T. tour, and then the Conspirators.”
He quipped: “It keeps me out of trouble, as they say.”

Luke Grimes’ next album will be ‘heavily influenced’ by his baby boy

OHMYGOSSIP — Luke Grimes’ next album will be “heavily influenced” by his baby boy.
The 40-year-old actor and country singer recently welcomed his first child with wife Bianca into the world and he will pour inspiration from his journey as a new dad into his follow-up to his 2024 self-titled debut album.
He told PEOPLE: “Man, having my baby has changed everything in every way possible.
“I think people talk about your heart expanding a little bit every day, and it’s so true.
“It’s like there’s a love growing inside of me that I didn’t know I was capable of, and it’s incredible and it’s scary because you have so much more skin in the game. You know what I mean?”
He added: “That’s the biggest influence in my life right now.”
The ‘Yellowstone’ star – who tied the knot with Bianca in 2018 – says he and his wife’s love for each other has taken on a whole new meaning since having their son.
He said: “It’s brought me and my wife close in a way that I didn’t know we could be. There’s another level in the way that we love each other and how we have to be a team for this little guy.”
Luke made his debut at the iconic Grand Ole Opry in Nashville last week and the newborn was in the audience.
The ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ actor quipped: “Hopefully the music doesn’t become this sort of cheesy love fest [now], but I’ve got to be honest with how I feel, and we will see what comes out of that.”
Despite his successful acting career, the ‘American Sniper’ star recently insisted that “real happiness” could only come from being a father.
He recently told the outlet: “I knew one day I wanted to start my own family, and I knew that that was going to be where the real happiness came from. The other stuff was just going to pay the bills.”

Mac Miller’s lost album Balloonerism coming ‘soon’, according to new trailer

OHMYGOSSIP — Mac Miller’s lost album ‘Balloonerism’ will seemingly posthumously drop “soon”.
During Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw festival in Los Angeles over the weekend, in between Sampha and Alchemist and Friends’ sets, a two-and-a-half-minute trailer aired with the album cover and a message reading “soon”.
A painting of the late rapper – who tragically died at the age of 26 of an accidental overdose in 2018 – by artist Alim Smith was shown alongside a series of visuals.
The collection is believed to have been recorded before Mac’s 2014 mixtape ‘Faces’.
Songs from the LP featuring SZA (‘The Song That Changed Everything’) and his best friend, Dylan Reynolds (‘Manakins’), previously leaked online alongside a potential track-listing, so news of an official release will be music to fans’ ears.
The clip featured the SZA collaboration and the track ‘5 Dollar Pony Rides’.
Grammy winner Thundercat is also rumoured to have been involved in the project.
It will mark the second posthumous album to be released after his family shared his album ‘Circles’ in 2020, which was intended to be a companion record to his last studio album, 2018’s ‘Swimming’.
At the time, they admitted that deciding to release the work had been a tough decision.
They explained in a post on his Instagram page: “This is a complicated process that has no right answer. No clear path. We simply know that it was important to Malcolm for the world to hear it. One of the most difficult decisions in the process is how best to let people know about it – how to communicate meaningfully while keeping sacred what should be kept sacred. So this will be the only post on any of his channels. Information regarding this release, his charity, and Malcolm himself will be found at @92tilinfinity.
“Thank you to all the fans who’ve supported him unconditionally through the years. We miss him. We are left to imagine where Malcolm was going and to appreciate where he was. We hope you take the time to listen. The look on his face when everyone was listening said it all.
“With humility and gratitude. Malcolm’s family (sic)”

Bob Dylan fans reduced to tears on UK leg of Rough and Rowdy Ways World Wide Tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Bob Dylan has been praised for his “unique” artistry as he ended his three-year ‘Rough and Rowdy Ways World Wide Tour’ at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
The 83-year-old music icon kicked off the UK leg of his tour at the Bournemouth International Centre on November 1, followed by a show at Liverpool’s M+S Bank Arena, two nights at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall, one date at Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena and two gigs at Wolverhampton’s Civic Hall.
He then graced the iconic Royal Albert Hall – a venue he first played in May 1965 – for three nights, with the finale taking place on Thursday night (14.11.24).
Dylan’s performances were so powerful that they reduced many fans to tears.
Alan O’Hare (@onlychildmusic) – who attended one of the London shows – wrote on X: “His artistry live is unique – his piano playing and singing moved me so much that I cried last night. Thanks, Bob.”
X user @ARCHAICNC0NTENT, who saw the legend in the Scottish capital, posted: “I went to the Bob Dylan show in Edinburgh and spent the whole show crying.”
A third X user @ro_wren, was a Liverpool gig attendee and posted: “Bob Dylan in Liverpool was amazing and beautiful.
“Why am I in my hotel room crying about seeing an 83 year old play a harmonica. God damn.”
Dylan enforced a no phones policy at all his shows, with audiences required to put their devices in a Yondr pouch, which automatically locked in each venue and unlocked in its concourse.
However, fans did not seem to mind as they got to see the “living legend” and his “great music”.
Dylan began his tour in support of his 39th studio album ‘Rough and Rowdy Ways’ at the Riverside Theater in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on November 2, 2021.
His setlists included several songs from his most recent LP, such as ‘False Prophet’, ‘My Own Version of You’ and ‘Crossing the Rubicon’ as well classic tracks like ‘All Along the Watchtower’, ‘It Ain’t Me, Babe’ and ‘Desolation Row’.

‘I lost everything, my early dreams were shattered…’ Milli Vanilli’s Fab Morvan reflects on vocals scandal

OHMYGOSSIP — Fab Morvan of Milli Vanilli felt like he had “lost everything” after vocals scandal.
The 58-year-old singer – who made up one half of R’n’B duo Milli Vanilli with Rob Pilatus – was involved in a music industry controversy back in 1989 when it was revealed that the duo did not sing on their own songs, either live or on their albums.
The duo’s producer Frank Farian – who created the duo, and also launched the group Boney M – then admitted in 1990 that session musicians sang on Milli Vanilli’s songs, and the pair were hired to be the public face of the music. In light of this, the band’s Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1990 was revoked and fans turned against them.
Now, to mark the band’s 35th anniversary, Fab is releasing the album ‘The Best of Milli Vanilli’ alongside new versions of songs with his vocals as the duo’s only surviving member.
Fab said that during the scandal in the late eighties, he felt like he had “lost everything”.
The ‘Girl You Know It’s True’ hitmaker told the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column: “I lost everything, my early dreams were shattered but I have new dreams. Now we have a resurgence, I sing, I DJ and now the light is on me. Yeah I’ve re-recorded Girl You Know It’s True and flipped it, and Blame It On The Rain acoustic, so now you can hear me.
“The stigma of ‘they’re not talented and couldn’t sing’ is too funny, the narrative was too powerful then but now I can tell the truth.”
Fab thinks Milli Vanilli’s fall from grave had a direct correlation with his bandmate Rob’s death. He passed away from an overdose in 1998 at the age of 33.
He said: “Rob lost his life as a result of the shame and bullying, that is cause and effect. But we were not the guys responsible, we were just part of the equation.”

The National’s Matt Berninger ‘smokes a fair amount of weed’ before going onstage

OHMYGOSSIP — The National’s frontman Matt Berninger admits he “smokes a fair amount of weed” and downs tequila sodas before shows to calm his stage fright.
The 53-year-old indie rocker has confessed that he relies on alcohol and cannabis to calm his nerves before performing in front of thousands of fans because, despite appearances, he gets “terrified” before a show.
He told the new issue of MOJO magazine: “… I used to over-lubricate.
“Y’know, a little too much oil in the gears. Just because I was terrified.”
Another way he over compensates for his fear is by going on wild stage dives, which can irritate his bandmates, including twins Aaron and Bryce Dessner, 48.
The latter said: “He’s seemingly fearless and always dangling off some speaker.”
Bryce confessed: “It drives my brother and I crazy sometimes, but the audience loves it.
“We don’t fully understand it.”
Matt insisted: “I don’t know what the compulsion is.
“I mean, my logic and intellect is telling me not to do it … mostly for ankle reasons. But I just can’t not do it.”
Bryce insists they are known for being “intense” onstage.
He said: “I feel like there’s always this thing with The National where we’re famously kind of intense.”
Matt then admitted: “I will smoke a fair amount of weed before I go on. You have to be real careful. But I have tuned into it and now it really helps me to breathe underwater.”
He quipped: “It’s like I’m a merman. I’m a wizard. I’m a Professor Cuckoo Brains who showed up to explain sadness and triumph and despair in New York City on a Friday night in the ’90s.”

Charles Kelley praises bandmates for supporting sobriety journey

OHMYGOSSIP — Lady A’s Charles Kelley has praised his bandmates for putting his sobriety ahead of their career.
The singer / songwriter and his bandmates Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood pushed back their ‘Request Line Tour’ by a year so that he could go to a rehabilitation facility in Utah and Charles is grateful to them both for putting his health first.
He told the Hulu docuseries ‘It’s All Country’: “We were kind of talking to our team about, you know, ‘What do we say? Why are we canceling the tour?’
“Dave and Hillary were such good friends throughout this whole journey. And thank God, I felt like I was given this second lease on my career and my marriage.”
Charles, 43, revealed he decided to quit alcohol after it took a toll on his marriage to wife Cassie McConnell Kelley, as well as his career.
He said: “Success is a double-edged sword, for sure. You know, once you know what it feels like, and once you’ve been out there, it’s a drug in itself. There is a lot of doubt that can come in and there’s just a lot of, I think, keeping your ego in check. I had to come back from treatment.”
When announcing the tour postponement in 2022, Lady A wrote on Instagram: “Being on the road with our fans is our greatest joy, so it was a hard but important decision to make. We are a band, but more importantly … we’re family. We’re proud to say that Charles has embarked on a journey to sobriety.”

The Who and The Kinks producer Shel Talmy dies

OHMYGOSSIP — Music producer Shel Talmy has died.
The music producer – who was behind hits by The Who and The Kinks and also worked with David Bowie – died aged 87 on Wednesday (13.11.24) at his home in Los Angeles.
As reported by Sky News, songwriter and archivist Alec Palao said he “died peacefully in his sleep” at his home “from complications due to a stroke” which he suffered from last weekend.
Shel prepared a statement for his fans which was shared posthumously to his Facebook page on Thursday (14.11.24) and the statement encouraged people to read Shel’s final message with songs such as “‘You Really Got Me’, ‘My Generation’, ‘Friday On My Mind’ or your choice of favourite ST production cranked in the background)”.
The statement said: “Please note, that if you’re reading this now, this is my final vignette, as I am no longer residing on this plane of existence, and have ‘moved on’, to wherever that may be.
“I’d like to think there is something beyond where I was to where I am now, assuming that the millions of suppositions as to what is next, are accurate.
“I’d like to think that I’m thoroughly enjoying my new ‘residence’, and that the countless rumours that there is a big working ‘studio in the sky’ are true, and that we are, dare I say, making heavenly music!
“I am also hoping that I am currently engaged in renewing relationships with a ton of friends and acquaintances, many of which go back for decades.
“I’ve had a good run, and I am delighted it lasted as long as it did. I’m also delighted that I am told I have a legacy that will last even longer.
“I look forward to meeting some of you in the future who are reading this, but LOL, don’t hurry to get here, I’m not going anywhere!”
Shel was best known for producing The Kinks’ hits ‘You Really Got Me’, ‘Tired Of Waiting For You’, ‘Sunny Afternoon’ and ‘Waterloo Sunset’ as well as producing The Who’s album and single ‘My Generation’.

Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine to pay ex-manager eye-watering $1.4 million in settlement

OHMYGOSSIP — Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has agreed to pay more than $1 million to his former manager.
The Thrash metal legend, 63, was sued by 5B Artist Management – who started managing the band in 2014 – over unpaid commission fees and new court documents, obtained by Rolling Stone, show that Mustaine will have to fork out more than $1.4 million to founder Cory Brennan to settle the case after he allegedly “unexpectedly and unceremoniously terminated” his contract without reason.
Brennan claims that Mustaine replaced him with his son last year and that he is owed money for commissions from more than 40 tour dates and merchandise sales.
Brennan’s attorney Howard King says Mustaine owes his career comeback to 5B – who also manage the likes of Slipknot and Lamb of God – and has agreed to pay the hefty sum.
He told the outlet: “Dave Mustaine, who has a known history of firing advisors, terminated 5B Artist Management after nine years of their having resurrected his failing career.
“Ignoring the success 5B had helped Dave achieve, including a campaign to help him win his first Grammy, the release of two hit albums, and the elevation of his touring from small clubs back to arenas and amphitheatres, Dave simply refused to pay commissions owing and forced 5B to file a lawsuit. While displeased at having to sue an artist, 5B is gratified that Dave has now agreed to have judgment entered against him for $1.4m in commissions he will have to pay.”
Mustaine filed a countersuit against 5B in October 2023, accusing the firm of breach of contract, fiduciary duty, and negligence.
Mustaine alleged that 5B didn’t get his songwriting royalties for his tenure with Metallica and accused them of giving donations from the sale of their merchandise to charity without his consent.
The countersuit read: “In 2017, Mustaine informed [5B] that he intended to pursue his interest in songwriting credit and royalties for songs that he wrote or co-wrote as a member of Metallica, and for which he was owed royalties.
“[5B] participated in discussions with Mustaine regarding these credits and royalties and were aware that they were responsible for pursuing this matter to ensure that Mustaine was appropriately credited and compensated for his work, they failed to do so.”
He also claimed he suffers from tinnitus – a constant ringing in the ear – due to 5B allegedly not allowing Megadeth’s drum kit to be moved further away from him during their tour with Slipknot.
A trial is still expected for Mustaine’s countersuit claims.
