OHMYGOSSIP — Former Journey rhythm guitarist and co-writer George Tickner has died at 76.
The rocker’s passing was confirmed by his former bandmate Neal Schon.
The musician contributed to the legendary American rock group’s first three albums – starting with 1975’s self-titled – after being hired by manager Herbie Herbert – who died in October 2021 aged 73.
Neal wrote on Facebook: “Rest peacefully, Dr. George Tickner. You will be missed immensely.
“Herbie’s waiting to greet you.”
Lead guitarist Neal took over his guitar duties until Jonathan Cain joined in 1981.
In January 2005, George appeared with past and present members of the ‘Don’t Stop Believin” band to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
After leaving Journey, George teamed up with Ross Valory – the group’s original bassist – on The Hive, a recording space where he continued to write music.
The pair were later joined by keyboardist Stevie ‘Keys’ Roseman in the band VTR, and they released the album ‘Cinema’ in 2005, with other Journey stars including Neal, Steve Smith, and Prairie Prince.
George left before all the drama started among various band members.
The group has had a number of legal fallouts in recent years.
Earlier this year, former member Steve Perry dropped his lawsuit against his ex-bandmates.
The musician – who was lead singer of the rock band from 1977 to 1987, and again from 1995 to 1998, and co-wrote many of their hits – filed a lawsuit against Neal and Jonathan in September, regarding the trademarks of 20 of their biggest hits and their use of them on merchandise.
He accused the pair of “fraud on the trademark office”, and claimed they failed to ask for his consent to use the trademarks.
However, he later withdrew the case.
And Neal filed a cease and desist against Jonathan for performing at Trump’s Mar-A-Lago.
The lead guitarist was not impressed, to say the least when the keyboardist performed ‘Don’t Stop Believin” at the former President’s Florida resort in November, because Journey “is not, and should not be, political.”
Cain – whose wife Paula White-Cain was a spiritual advisor to Trump – was accused by his bandmate of “unauthorised affiliation of Journey” with Trump’s politics.
Neal claimed it had resulted in “irreparable harm” to the group’s brand and “earning potential”.
Jonathan hit back and accused his bandmate of lying.
He responded: “Schon is just frustrated that he keeps losing in court and is now falsely claiming the song has been used at political rallies.”
Back in March 2020, Journey fired longtime bassist Ross and drummer Steve Smith for an alleged “malicious and very ill-conceived” coup attempt to gain control of the band’s copyright from Neal and Jonathan.
Ross – who was also fired by the band in 1985 and replaced by Randy Jackson – and Steve later countersued.

OHMYGOSSIP — Drake teased fans on the opening night of his joint tour with 21 Savage that he has a new record “coming soon”.
The ‘Rich Flex’ rapper was performing at Chicago’s United Center for the ‘It’s All a Blur’ tour with his ‘Her Loss’ collaborator on Wednesday night (05.07.23) when he dropped some big news.
He told the crowd: “I have an album coming out soon for y’all.”
However, it’s not the first time the ‘One Dance’ hitmaker – who released ‘Her Loss’ with Savage in November, and solo collection ‘Honestly, Nevermind’ in June last year – has teased a new LP.
When the pair performed at the Apollo Theater in New York City for a SiriusXM special in January, Drake spilled: “I’ve thought about a bunch of things in life, but at this moment in time none of those things are stopping making music for you, so I’ll be here for you for a little bit at least.
“I hope I can strike up more emotions for you. Maybe this year – I might get bored and make another one. Who knows?”
The tour comes after Drake admitted he wants to “gracefully exit” music to make way for the next generation of rappers.
The ‘Hotline Bling’ hitmaker insists he’s not thinking about retirement anytime soon, but when the time comes to step back, he wants to mentor up-and-coming artists.
Speaking to fellow rapper Lil Yachty, 25, for the first ‘Moody Conversations’ episode on YouTube, Drake said: “Well, I think on a broader scale, I think I’m at the point now where I just wanna — I feel like maybe we talked about this the other day — but I feel like I’m kind of introducing the concept in my mind of a graceful exit.”
The 36-year-old superstar continued: “I feel like a lot of people that I’ve watched as the years have gone on, it’s a really addictive competitive space. Oftentimes you’re addicted to the competition itself.”
Reassuring fans that he has no plans to hang up his microphone in the near future, Drake added: “I’m not ready now, but to gracefully continue making projects that are extremely interesting and hopefully cherished by people, and then to find the right time to say, ‘I can’t wait to see what the next generation does.’
“I’ll still be around to work with people or do a show here or there, but I’m not going to force myself to compete.
I would love to just see what the next generation does, whenever that time is. So, I guess that’s the one thing that I want for myself really badly.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Taylor Swift has received a request from Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to bring ‘The Eras Tour’ to his country.
After the ‘Anti-Hero’ hitmaker announced a further 14 UK and European shows with support from Paramore, the 51-year-old political leader has demanded the Grammy winner extend the jaunt even more so it’s not “another cruel summer” for Canadian fans.
Justin tweeted the ‘Cruel Summer’ singer: “It’s me, hi.
“I know places in Canada would love to have you. So, don’t make it another cruel summer. We hope to see you soon.”
After the US leg, Taylor announced shows in Japan, Australia, Singapore, and Latin America.
At this time, there are no shows booked for Canada.
Fans are scrambling for tickets as demand is so high.
The biggest names in showbiz have been attending shows.
Toni Collette just thanked Taylor for bringing “endless joy and inspiration”.
The 50-year-old actress was in the audience when the ‘Shake It Off’ singer brought her ‘Eras Tour’ to Cincinnati, Ohio, at the weekend, and she thanked the 33-year-old pop star for an “incredible” evening as she heaped praise on the star.
Toni shared photos and videos from the show and wrote on Instagram: “Thank you @taylorswift for the MOST INCREDIBLE night last night‼️
“Your talent is immeasurable and your generosity boundless. Thank you for sharing it all with the world. You bring endless joy and inspiration to many, including me.

The ‘Hereditary’ actress – who has daughter Sage, 15, and son Arlo, 12, with estranged husband David Galafassi – then shared a second post, in which she praised Taylor and fellow singer Billie Eilish for being great role models to young people.

OHMYGOSSIP — Andrew Ridgeley is in talks for a Wham! biopic.
The 60-year-old singer has been approached by several people keen to tell the story of his and late childhood friend George Michael’s rise to fame and he believes the project would have got the seal of approval from his former bandmate, who died in December 2016.
Andrew told Music Week: “I was approached by several studios in the wake of my book, and Wham! is a great story – it’s a dreams come true movie, so it’s got all the ingredients.
“I would hope that the George Michael Estate might see their way to a film because I think it would be the ultimate accolade, and Yog was always very keen on pitching his brand alongside his peers, that elite strata of artists.
“I think a Wham! movie would mean his legacy would be given… Well, it’s the very top rung and I know that’s what he would want. So yeah, I’d love to see it happen. Fingers crossed.”
The ‘Edge of Heaven’ singer was happy to take a backseat when it came to writing songs for the group because he knew George’s lyrics were “in a different league” to his own and the success of the band was more important than ego.
He said: “Neither of us were stupid, especially with regard to songwriting, and his songwriting was developing in quantum leaps.
“It was just plain as day that his songwriting was in a different league to mine, so it was an easy decision.
“Our main purpose was to make Wham! a success and to achieve the highest heights as quickly as we could. Both of us had points to prove, so success was an essential element of our motivation.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Drake amazed fans on the first night of his tour by performing with a hologram of his younger self.
The rapper opened his ‘It’s All a Blur’ tour with 21 Savage at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois on Wednesday (05.07.23) and delighted the audience with a set of more than 40 songs including ‘Started from the Bottom’, Sicko Mode’ and ‘Way 2 Sexy’ but it was a moment during his performance of ‘Take Care’ that left fans gasping in shock – as he sat on a sofa with a hologram of his younger self.
The hologram – wearing a Chicago Cubs’ jersey – was seen nodding along to the beat before turning to the real Drake and handing him a book, which the rapper then opened and flipped through.
The stunt left many audience members in disbelief with some failing to register it was actually a hologram sitting next to the star. One wrote in a post on Twitter: “Everyone saying Drake performed with a hologram got me tweaked out … If it was, I’m lowkey shocked because I looked at that boy with my own eyes and thought he was real.”
Others remained convinced the hologram was so real it must have been a real person who just looked like a younger version of the chart star. Another asked: “Is it actually a hologram or just a person who looks like Drake?”
During the show, the star also used the technology to pay tribute to late Chicago fashion designer Virgil Abloh – who died in November 2021
– by projecting his image onto the stage.
The tour – which Drake is co-headlining with 21 Savage – is set to play across the US and Canada before winding up in Columbus, Ohio on October 9.

OHMYGOSSIP — Bruce Springsteen warned the audience at Hyde Park that he was about to be cut off as he neared the end of his Hyde Park set.
The 73-year-old rock star took to the stage on day five of Hyde Park BST on Thursday (07.07.23) night and recalled being cut off by organisers over a decade ago when he and Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney exceeded their time limit and started tapping his watch towards the end of the new set.
Speaking live on stage, he turned to E Street band member Steven Van Zandt and said: “I’m telling you, if we don’t go, they’re going to pull the plug on us again. F*** ’em! London is there anyone alive out there tonight? Cos if you’re alive, then I’m alive. And that’s what we came here for!”
In 2012, when Bruce was headling the Hard Rock Calling event with the ‘Hey Jude’ singer when organisers decided to pull the plug in the interests of public safety.
Organisers Live Nation said in a statement at the time: “The curfew is laid down by the authorities in the interest of the public’s health and safety. Road closures around Hard Park are put in place at specific times to make sure everyone can exit the area safely.”
On Thursday night, the US megastar had brought six decades’ worth of hits with him as he took to the stage at the annual festival on performing the likes of ‘Letter To You’, ‘Ghosts’, ‘The Promised Land’, ‘Kitty’s Back’ and ‘My Hometown’ before wrapping up the three-hour set with ‘Dancing in the Dark’ and ‘Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out’.
Things took a more sombre turn when he decided to dedicate ‘Last Man Standing’ and ‘Backstreets’ to life-long friend and bandmate George Theiss, who died in 2018 following a battle with cancer at the age of 68.

OHMYGOSSIP — Ice Spice gets “so much advice” from Taylor Swift.
The 23-year-old rapper – whose real name is Isis Naija Gaston – teamed up with pop superstar Taylor,33, to feature on her track ‘Karma’ and although she had initially told the ‘Anti-Hero’ songstress asked her if she was going to “f***” with her project, she ended up “obsessed” with how humble Taylor was and is now in regular contact with her, although she “cannot say” what they talk about.
She told The Guardian newspaper: “I was like: ‘You f*** with my project?’ Like, what? She’s so sweet – I was so obsessed with how humble she was and willing to work. She gives me so much advice – we talk all the time and she’s so funny… But I can’t say what she be telling me.”
The ‘Barbie World’ hitmaker – who also performed with Taylor during the New Jersey dates of her ‘Eras’ tour earlier this year – has also become close friends with fellow rap star Nicki Minaj and “loves” to be able to talk to the ‘Super Bass’ singer about things she cannot talk about when the cameras are on.
She said: “She be telling me to learn from her mistakes – just watching her in general, if you pay close enough attention, you gonna see what you should do. I love to talk to her about things that I can’t talk about publicly – it just means so much to be able to have somebody like her.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Damian Lewis used to be a busker.
The 52-year-old actor is best known for playing U.S. Army Major Richard Winters in the HBO miniseries ‘Band of Brothers’ but has now released his debut album ‘Mission Creep’ and explained that fans were “surprised” by the sudden change even though he has a “history” of playing music.
Asked if others were surprised by the career shift, he told Metro newspaper’s SixtySeconds column: “Er, yes… is the short answer. My close friends and people I’ve grown up with know that I play the guitar and sing.
“I have a history of busking in London and I used to go round Europe on my motorbike with my tent and play the market squares of the south of France and Spain, but I’ve been a professional actor and very focused on that for many years and I think it will be a big leap in people’s imaginations.”
The ‘Homeland’ star went on to add that he has been songwriting for the album and even though there are a few covers on the album, most of the record is his even though some of his previous attempts at composing tracks were “frankly appalling” and have yet to come to light in any form.
He added: “I have [written for the album]. There are three covers on it but the majority of the album is mine. I had attempted to write songs before when I was younger and busking but they were frankly appalling and none of them have seen the light of day. Maybe that was a confidence thing, or maybe I was right and they were just rubbish.
“You definitely can’t [come in at the top]. I want to be a proper gigging band. I want us to play smaller venues, get better, practice, learn what it’s like to be in front of a live audience.
“I don’t feel more exposed as myself than I do sublimating myself to a role. When I’m on stage, I feel totally exposed. I’ve been on the end of one or two reviews when the critics aren’t always kind so being out there as myself, I don’t feel more vulnerable. I might be lacking nerve endings. We know our place. A small towel, some water and a bottle of tequila and I’m very happy.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Taylor Lautner stars in ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift’s music video for ‘I Can See You’.
The 31-year-old ‘Twilight’ star – who dated Swift briefly in 2009 and provided some of the inspiration for her ‘Speak Now’ album – has remained close friends with the singer and co-stars in her latest music video with Joey King.
Swift brought King and Lautner on stage at her ‘Eras’ tour at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Friday (07.07.23) to premiere the video and revealed that Lautner and his wife Taylor Dome are two of her “closest friends”.
Swift said: “He was a very positive force in my life when I was making the ‘Speak Now’ album and I want to say he did every single stunt that you saw in that music video. He and his wife have become some of my closest friends and it’s very convenient because we all share the same first name.”
Lautner told his ex: “I just want to say one thing. I respect you so much, for the human you are. You are gracious, humble… I am honoured to know you.”
Swift also shared the video on social media and wrote: “WELL. SO, I’ve been counting down for months and finally the ‘I Can See You’ video is out. I wrote this video treatment over a year ago and really wanted to play out symbolically how it’s felt for me to have the fans helping me reclaim my music. I had my heart set on Joey King, Taylor Lautner and Presley Cash starring in it. OHMYGOSSIP — Pink joked that she wishes she wrote the viral children’s song ‘Baby Shark’.
The ‘Who Knew’ hitmaker began by paying tribute to her long-time friend and support actor, Gwen Stefani, and admitted she wished she wrote her band No Doubt’s hits ‘Spiderwebs’ and ‘Just a Girl’, before reducing the crowd to giggles when she said she also wishes she penned the campfire song with special hand dance movements that went viral in 2016 when Pinkfong, a South Korean entertainment company, released it.
Speaking to the crowd at her American Express presents BST Hyde Park concert in London last month, she said while asking for applause for Gwen: “I wish I wrote ‘Spiderwebs’, ‘Just a Girl’ … can we give it up for Gwen Stefani!”
She then said: “I also wish I wrote ‘Baby Shark’.”
And before launching into a piano version of Bob Dylan’s 90s classic ‘Make You Feel My Love’ – which was first released by Billy Joel in 1997 and further popularised by Adele in 2008 – she said: “This is a song I wish that I wrote. I don’t really write love songs. It’s really just not in me. Sorry, babe [husband C. But if you have someone here that you love and want to hold hands and cuddle…”
During the same concert, Pink was left stunned when a fan threw her mum’s ashes on stage in a zip-lock pouch.
The ‘Never Gonna Not Dance Again’ singer, 42, also received a number of other gifts from her loyal fans at her two American Express Presents BST Hyde Park shows in London, including a whole wheel of brie cheese, teddy bears, flowers and artwork.
But she was left startled when she was handed the pouch of cremated remains and asked the member of the audience to clarify that it was their mum’s ashes – before saying: “I don’t know how to feel about that.”
After walking back up to the stage from the central walkway, Pink added: “I have to say that was a first.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Ringo Starr has insisted the upcoming Beatles single is their “last track”.
The 83-year-old drummer and lead singer Sir Paul McCartney have collaborated on a previously unreleased John Lennon demo that they, along with George Harrison considered making into a Beatles track in the ’90s, but Ringo is sure that this will be the final ever Beatles song released.
He told Variety: “It’s not down to AI. It’s not like we’re pretending anything. That is actually John’s voice, Paul’s voice and bass playing, George on rhythm guitar and me on drums. And the two things that are new are Paul’s bass and me on drums. … I really worked at it just months ago here. And it works. It’s a beautiful song. You know, for all the madness going on around it, it’s still a beautiful track. And our last track.”
When asked why they decided to release it now, Ringo joked: “I don’t know. Paul must’ve had a slow day.
He added: “Paul says, ‘You know that track we did? Do you want to work on that?’ I drummed on it and I sang on it. It is moving, because the four of us are there, and there won’t be ever again.”
Starr and McCartney are the only two surviving members of The Beatles. Lennon was murdered in New York City on December 8, 1980, while Harrison passed away in 2001 following a battle with lung cancer.
Ringo is still touring at 83 and has no plans to slow down.
He said: “I can’t hide it. You know what I mean? So I have to say: 83 today. Well, I’m here. It’s not like a proud thing. It’s just, this is where I’m at.
“I think I’ve got another hundred years in me.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Britney Spears is reportedly set to make a music comeback with Will.i.am.
The 41-year-old pop superstar – who regained control of her multimillion-dollar fortune as well as various aspects of her life and career when a conservatorship arrangement governed by her family was terminated in 2021 – has not released an album since 2016’s ‘Glory’ but is said to be gearing up to work with Black Eyed Peas rapper Will, 48, for a comeback, more than a decade after they collaborated on megahit ‘Scream and Shout’.
A source told The Sun on Sunday’s Bizarre column: “Britney and Will have a huge amount of love and respect for each other and really trust each other’s musical judgment. Will has long been Britney’s No1 supporter and he wants to see her succeed. Both of them are excited to be releasing this surprise track and they know fans will love it.”
The news comes shortly after Will spoke out in support of the ‘…Baby One More Time’ hitmaker as he noted that he wanted to see her “win” in life.
Speaking on UK TV show ‘Good Morning Britain’, he said: “We’ve done cool things together, and I’m so happy that she’s on this new journey and shining. She’s still got hurdles, but you know what, we’re all there to support her. I just love her dedication and love for music. That’s just the way it is. I love how sweet she is, and how genuine she is — shy, but fierce. And I want to see her win.”
Apart from her duet with Sir Elton John on ‘Hold Me Closer’ in the summer of last year, Britney has not released any music since the termination of her conservatorship.
In 2020, she released ‘Mood Ring’, ‘Swimming in the Stars’ and ‘Matches’ – in collaboration with fellow 1990s stars The Backstreet Boys – as part of a deluxe edition of her ninth studio album.

OHMYGOSSIP — Rick Astley gets requests to use ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ on a “weekly basis”.
The 80s pop star admits he owes all his success to Stock Aitken Waterman – the famous trio who wrote and produced his hits – as its thanks to them that he’s been offered lots of money to feature the 1983 classic in adverts, video games, and TV series, including ‘Ted Lasso’ and ‘Fortnite’.
Speaking to Classic Pop magazine, Rick said: “We get offers to do something with it probably on a weekly basis.
“I just shot a commercial in America, where they wanted to recreate the video. I was like, ‘Oh f***, come on…
Anyway, long story short, they offered me a lot of money.”
The 57-year-old star admits he’s fortunate to make money for a song he didn’t even write, which he admitted is not “some holy relic”, but he wishes he was asked about his new music more.
He continued: “I do feel very privileged.
“That song is part of my DNA, and I’m lucky to have it. But there’s a point where you go, ‘Hang on, I’m not The Smiths. It’s just a pop song from the 80s, that I didn’t write.’ It’s not some holy relic. If somebody wants to pay me a load of money to do a commercial, which means I can then go and do something I want to do, then yeah, I’II do it. But there are times when you go, ‘So you just want me to come and sing the old song, and don’t even want to talk about the fact I’ve made a new record? Yeah, let’s just leave it.’
“I don’t want to come across in any way precious or act like it’s difficult.
“Because I am grateful. I’ve had a really good life because of Stock Aitken Waterman – not exactly driving Ferraris into pools, but l’ve never had to worry about the gas bill. Which is ridiculous, considering I was 21 at the time. But it’s a weird one. When someone goes, ‘Does Rick want to dress up in a raincoat and do the dance?’, there’s a part of my soul that goes, ‘Hell yeah’. And then there’s a part of me that goes, ‘Nah, not today…”

OHMYGOSSIP — Faye Tozer has teased that Steps will do “something new” at their Brighton Pride gig.
The 47-year-old star is best known as part of the pop group alongside Claire Richards, Lee Latchford-Evans, Lisa Scott-Lee, and Ian ‘H’ Watkins and whilst the band is known for belting out “crowd-pleasers” like ‘Tragedy’ and ‘One For Sorrow’ at their concerts, Faye has now teased that something unseen may be on the cards for their slot at the annual festival next month,
She told The Daily Star Sunday newspaper: “We are going to do our best to do a crowd-pleasing setlist with something people haven’t seen yet.”
The ‘Deeper Shade of Blue’ singers – who released a number of top-selling singles from 1997 until 2001 before reuniting for a tour in 2012 and since getting back together in 2017 have released four top-selling albums and staged a string of arena tours – will perform their only gig this year at Brighton Pride on August 6 and Faye’s bandmate H also teased that there are “exciting” things in store.
He said: “We’ve got some exciting surprises in store!”
Last month, ‘Electric’ singer Lisa took to the stage for her first solo show in almost 20 years at the Mighty Hoopla festival in London and thanked fans for their support over the years and teased that there is “more to come” for the ‘Something In Your Eyes’ hitmakers.
Speaking live on stage at The Candy Crush Arena at the Mighty Hoopla Festival in Brockwell Park, London, she said: “I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Steps. As you know, Steps is a massive, massive part of my life – it always has been. We’ve had an incredible 25 years but in the last five years we have released four albums, we’ve had more number ones and it’s just been amazing. But there’s more to come, so don’t worry!”

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicki Minaj admits she was sent a “couple” of songs for the ‘Barbie’ soundtrack that she “didn’t love” before recording ‘Barbie World’ with Ice Spice.
The 40-year-old rapper – who calls her fans Barbz – “jumped” at the chance to record the song for the 2023 movie based on the Mattel doll and just wanted a “dope drum” beat with the sample of Aqua’s ‘Barbie Girl’.
Speaking to ‘Entertainment Tonight’ at the flick’s world premiere at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall on Sunday (09.07.23), she said: “There were a couple of songs that I didn’t love. And then there was another song, well this ‘Barbie’ sample, I loved it I just wanted it to have a dope drum. And the one they sent me I loved, and I jumped on it right away.”
Nicki Minaj admits it’s a “full-circle moment” for her to be a part of the movie.
She said: “I’m so excited to be here and be part of this entire moment.
“I’ve been saying Barbie my whole career so it’s a very full-circle moment for me.”
Margot Robbie, who is playing the main Barbie in the live-action flick alongside Ryan Gosling’s Ken, got to meet the ‘Anaconda’ hitmaker on the pink carpet for the first time.
The 33-year-old actress gushed to Variety: “Oh my god, that was iconic. I’m dying.
“I’m gonna have to take a minute later to be like, ‘Wow, I actually just got a picture with Nicki Minaj.”
Meanwhile, Ice Spice, 23, recently revealed she has become close friends with fellow rap star Nicki and “loves” to be able to talk to the ‘Super Bass’ hitmaker about things she cannot talk about when the cameras are on.
She told The Guardian: “She be telling me to learn from her mistakes – just watching her in general, if you pay close enough attention, you gonna see what you should do. I love to talk to her about things that I can’t talk about publicly – it just means so much to be able to have somebody like her.
“I’m just happy to be a part of such a big movement and to be able to contribute to the culture. I’m willing to try whatever, you know what I’m saying? I’m young – I’m gonna try everything.”

OHMYGOSSIP — The 1975 have replaced Lewis Capaldi at Reading and Leeds.
Matty Healy and co are set to perform their 2013 self-titled debut album in full at both sites this August Bank Holiday weekend in honour of the LP’s 10th anniversary.
Lewis has pulled out of all of his concerts after his Glastonbury set last month, which saw him struggle to perform due to Tourette’s syndrome.
During his band’s set at TRNSMT festival in Scotland on Sunday (09.07.23), Matty teased: “So, on Saturday (26.08.23) at Reading and Sunday (27.08.23) at Leeds in celebration of 10 years of our debut album, The 1975 will be playing that album in full in support of our good friend Lewis Capaldi. If you’ve got tickets, good for you. If you haven’t, go and get them. We’ll see you there.”
Matty recently gave an endearing shout-out to good pal Lewis during The 1975’s headline set at London’s Finsbury Park.
The ‘About You’ hitmaker, 34, paid tribute to the ‘Someone You Loved’ hitmaker, 26 after he was forced to step back from touring.
Matty revealed that Lewis reached out to him on the same day he announced the cancellation of his concerts.
He told the crowd on July 2: “I want to send my sincerest thoughts to Lewis Capaldi who is a good friend of mine. Who on the day when he had to cancel his tour, checked in on me.
“And it’s also a reflection on how hard being a solo artist is as I would not be doing this show if I didn’t have these amazing men and women behind me.”
The musician – who revealed in 2022 that he’d been diagnosed with Tourette’s syndrome – confirmed he needs to spend more time focusing on his “mental and physical health” after fans rallied behind him when he struggled during his Glastonbury Festival set, which marked his first show in almost a month.
In a lengthy statement shared on social media, he said: “First of all, thank you to Glastonbury for having me, for singing along when I needed it and for all the amazing messages afterwards. It really does mean the world.
“The fact that this probably won’t come as a surprise doesn’t make it any easier to write, but I’m very sorry to let you all know I’m going to be taking a break from touring for the foreseeable future.
“I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I’d hoped 3 weeks away would sort me out.
“But the truth is I’m still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette’s and on Saturday it become obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come.”
The ‘Pointless’ hitmaker thanked everyone who has supported him and said he feels “fortunate” to have the freedom to step back when he needs to.
He continued: “I know I’m incredibly fortunate to be able to take some time out when others can’t and I’d like to thank my amazing family, friends, team, medical professionals and all of you who’ve been so supportive every step of the way through the good times and even more so during this past year when I’ve needed it more than ever.
“I’m so incredibly sorry to everyone who had planned to come to a show before the end of the year but I need to feel well to perform at the standard you all deserve.
“Playing for you every night is all I’ve ever dreamed of so this has been the most difficult decision of my life. I’ll be back as soon as I possibly can.
“All my love, always, Lewis x.”
Towards the end of his set, he said: “We’re gonna play two more songs if that’s okay, even if I can’t sing properly.
“I’m really sorry, before I go any further. You’ve all come out and I’m really apologising. My voice is packing in.”
Fans sang his words back to him as he was visibly struggling, and he suggested he wouldn’t be performing for the rest of the year.
He added: “I feel like I’ll be taking another wee break for the next few weeks, you might not see me for the rest of the year. But when I do come back and I do see you, I hope you’re up for watching.”
