U2 extend Las Vegas Sphere residency

OHMYGOSSIP — U2 have extended their ‘U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere’ Las Vegas residency due to “unprecedented demand”.
Bono and co became the first act to perform at the multi-billion dollar immersive MSG Sphere at the Venetian on September 29.
The Sin City stint was due to end on December 16, however, it’s proved so popular, that they’ve added an additional 11 concerts between January 26 and February 18.
The Irish rockers have been performing their 1991 album ‘Achtung Baby’ in full alongside some fan-favourites at the concerts at the new high-tech.
The pre-sale ends on October 21 at 10pm PT for U2.com paid subscribers. General tickets will go on sale on October 25 from 11am PT.
The cutting-edge venue sees the crowd placed in a “360-degree sonic spectrum”.
Those lucky enough to get tickets will experience a concert no other due to the venue being built for cinema and performance, not sport.
Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, frontman Bono teased: “Most music, over playing a theatre, most music venues are sports venues. They’re stadiums, they’re arenas. They’re built for sports. They’re not built for music, they’re not built for art. So this building was built for immersive experiences in cinema and performance. It was not built for [sports], you can’t come here and see an ice hockey game.
“There are no speakers. The entire building is a speaker. So wherever you are, you have perfect sound is the plan.”
Guitarist The Edge said: “There’s nothing else like it in the world and won’t be for many, many years.”
He went on: “So what this has been designed to achieve is completely immersive sound. So you’ve got the main array of speakers is above our heads, but throughout the entire building are speakers that are focused so that you have the capability of placing the audience inside a whole 360-degree sonic spectrum.”
The musician hailed the visuals as “ground-breaking”.
The Edge added: “This can do that kind of Atmos mixing in a live context, which has never ever been possible before. So not only is the visual side of it ground-breaking, but the audio side of it is again, cutting edge.”

Lady Gaga was the surprise guest at The Rolling Stones’ New York album launch show

OHMYGOSSIP — Lady Gaga rocked out on stage with The Rolling Stones at their star-studded New York album launch show on Thursday night (19.10.23).
The ‘Million Reasons’ hitmaker imitated frontman Sir Mick Jagger’s signature dance moves as they dualled off onstage at Racket NYC, performing their duet ‘Sweet Sounds of Heaven’ from the band’s acclaimed new record ‘Hackney Diamonds’.
The audience included Daniel Craig, Chris Rock, Trevor Noah, Jimmy Fallon, and Elvis Costello.
The Gaga appearance came at the end of the set with the pop superstar rocking a glittering flared jumpsuit for the occasion.
At the start of the gig, Mick said: “We were missing the launches so much we had to go back and make another album.”
They kicked off with their New York-themed song, ‘Shattered’.
Their surprise seven-song setlist also saw the legendary group – Mick, 80, Keith Richards, 79, and Ronnie Wood, 76 – give album tracks ‘Angry’, ‘Whole Wide World’ and ‘Bite My Head Off’ their live debuts.
On top of that, they treated the intimate crowd to classics ‘Tumbling Dice’ and ‘Jumping Jack Flash’.
The Stones were joined by new drummer Steve Jordan, bassist Darryl Jones, keyboardist Matt Clifford, and backing singer Chanel Haynes for the one-off set.
The ‘Start Me Up’ hitmakers showed they are raring to get back out on the road and are hoping to tour the album – their first comprising all new material in 18 years – next year.
Ronnie told the Daily Star newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Hopefully, next year we start. We gotta keep going because we’re not getting any younger.
“We’ve just rehearsed. We’ve been doing a little rehearsing to see how these songs translate live – they’re really cooking.”
Mick insists he is always singing to keep his vocals in check.
He added: “I’m just lucky really, I never really had any problems with my voice.
“I kept it going. I had a few singing lessons to keep it together, so I practice a lot even when I’m not working.
“It’s like being in the gym so I go to the gym and I sing. Boring but you know it’s worth it.”

Fatboy Slim performs on world’s biggest holographic stage

OHMYGOSSIP — Fatboy Slim had a “wild ride” as he performed on the world’s biggest holographic stage.
The 60-year-old DJ appeared high in the London sky at Alexandra Palace on Thursday (19.10.23) night when he was projected on to a 50m tall, 30m wide holo-gauze as he played some of his biggest hits, backed on ‘Praise You’ by a string of virtual backing dancers from across the country following a nationwide competition.
The visual spectacle, which was to mark a new era for EE, was as high as the leaning tower of Pisa and guests including Ashley Roberts, Ella Eyre, Max George, Maisie Smith, and Lucy Watson, defied the rain to dance on the terrace at the iconic venue, while the performance was also livestreamed to the nation.
Fatboy Slim said afterwards: “Last night was a wild ride! We took over London’s skyline and made history. A massive shout out to all those fans who joined me on the world’s biggest holographic stage to kickstart a brand-new era for EE.”
The event marked EE’s move from traditional telecommunications to become the UK’s largest subscription business, focusing on game, home, learn and work, with a string of products and services – underpinned by EE 5G and EE Full Fibre – being developed to improve customers’ everyday lives in those areas.

The Libertines don’t care if they are ‘fat’ and ‘not cool’

OHMYGOSSIP — The Libertines just want to write “beautiful songs” and don’t care if they are “fat” and “not cool”.
Pete Doherty and Carl Barat’s band returned last week with the new single ‘Run Run Run’ and confirmed their new record ‘All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade’ is out next year, and the pair have insisted they don’t care about being “relevant” and looking good as they are all about penning “wicked tunes”.
In a joint interview with NME, Pete, 44, who has put on weight after swapping drugs and alcohol with food, said: “It would have nothing to do with whether we were relevant or getting fat, it would just be whether or not we had any decent songs. That’s the only way I can look at it. I just still get off on writing wicked tunes. Carl recently said to me, ‘I don’t care about being cool anymore – I just want to write beautiful songs’. I was like, ‘That’s what we’ve always done’. Apparently not!”
Carl, 45, quipped: “You just reminded me that I wasn’t cool.”
Asked if fans will have to wait another eight years for another record, Carl said: “Maybe it will, you never know. We’re trying not to put that pressure on ourselves at this stage. I’d like to get in a flow state where songs just come out, but I find it quite hard work.”
Elsewhere, the pair revealed they’ve been trying to get a biopic sorted for a while now, and if it ever does happen, they will play themselves.
Carl said: “We’ve talked about it, but then we always have a row about who’s playing who!”
Pete said: “We even tried to sit down and write some screenplays for it, but it always turns into some farcical comedy. There was a musical made in Korea called ‘The Likely Lads’. They said it was going to run and run, but it closed after two nights.”
Asked who will play who, Pete said: “Now with all this AI, you can just play yourself. We’d be playing with ourselves, as usual.”

Keanu Reeves received bass guitar lessons from Flea

OHMYGOSSIP — Keanu Reeves once received a bass guitar lesson from Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea.
The 59-year-old actor – who plays bass in the grunge band Dogstar – revealed he asked the musician for advice when they met on a movie set.
Speaking on Fender’s YouTube channel, Keanu said: “I remember one time I was doing a film, and Flea was in it, or I was in a film with Flea. And I remember there was a house, and there [were] amps and instruments and stuff like that.
“And I was like, ‘Hey, Flea, can you give me a lesson?’ And he was like, ‘Sure, man!’ And he [did a complex bass solo]. And I was like, ‘Alright, so?’ And he was like, ‘Just feel it, man. Just play.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah.’”
Keanu and Flea both appeared in the 1981 movie ‘My Own Private Idaho’, directed by Gus Van Sant.
Speaking about how he became a bassist, Keanu said, “I think I’m a wild animal playing with a piece of wood. I didn’t learn a lot of songs. I didn’t listen to a song and try and figure it out. Kids: I regret that. If you’re picking up an instrument, it’s cool to figure out what people have done before, but I wasn’t doing that. So I would just play. So I had no theory.
“I was asked what was my first bass. I’ve been trying to remember, but I think it was like 1986. I went to the Hollywood Guitar Center with the daydream of getting a bass guitar.”
“I ended up… I don’t recall, but there was a guy there who was selling a bass. He was with a friend. Not at the store, it was like a parking lot sale. I had, like, a bass drug deal.”

The ‘Heaven’ collaborators were due to kick off the US tour next week but it has now been axed to allow Shygirl to get surgery for “an ongoing respiratory condition”.
Shygirl, 30, wrote on Instagram: “Devastated to share that due to an ongoing respiratory condition I’ve been forced to make the difficult decision to cancel my appearances on the upcoming US tour on the advice of my doctor that I can no longer delay surgery.
“My thoughts also go to Tinashe and Uniiqu3 as we were all so looking forward to this tour together.
“I’m truly heartbroken by the situation and I hope to be back to see you all as soon as I am able. Love, Shygirl.”

Duran Duran rejected Christmas song because it’s ‘too cheesy’

OHMYGOSSIP — Duran Duran rejected an offer to do a Christmas single because they thought it was “corny”.
The ‘Ordinary World’ hitmakers might be releasing the Halloween album ‘Danse Macabre’ but don’t expect them to put out a Yuletide collection anytime soon.
Drummer Roger Taylor told Classic Pop magazine: “We were approached to do a Christmas single at one point.
“We thought it was too cheesy, so we didn’t do it. I often say we should have said yes, because we’d still be getting a ton of royalties now. No, it was too corny. I can’t imagine we’d do a Christmas album now.”
Keyboardist Nick Rhodes added: “I celebrate Christmas the same as everyone, but it’s not something close to my heart. In a strange, beautiful way, Halloween is dear to me. I love that it’s a pagan celebration of craziness.
“As a kid, witches, black cats, demons and monsters were much more appealing than some big guy with a beard in a red suit.”
The ‘Wild Boys’ hitmakers have put their spin on Billie Eilish’s ‘Bury A Friend’, ‘Psycho Killer’ by Talking Heads, with Victoria De Angelis of Maneskin, The Rolling Stones’ ‘Paint It Black’, ‘Spellbound’ by Siouxsie and the Banshees, and many more.
It also features new versions of ‘Nightboat’ and ‘Secret Oktober 31st’.
The record – which arrives in full on October 27 – is inspired by a pair of Halloween-themed shows in Las Vegas last year, where they donned ghoulish outfits and performed covers of ‘Spellbound’, ‘Ghost Town’ by The Specials and ‘Super Freak’ by Rick James.

Keith Richards ‘drove’ Mick Jagger ‘crazy’ by constantly playing The Beatles

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Mick Jagger used to get fed up with Keith Richards playing Beatles tunes non-stop when they shared a flat.
The Rolling Stones frontman admits a lot of their songs were inspired by their former rivals’ pop hits because guitarist Keith was obsessed with them.
Speaking to Mojo magazine, he said: “Originally, Keith was the pop person really.
“I mean, I used to just write lyrics to his pop tunes and he wrote all these pop tunes because he listened to The Beatles all the time.
“Drove me crazy listening to The Beatles when we shared a flat together.
“Keith sort of left that behind in a way, but he wrote Ruby Tuesday, Let’s Spend The Night Together – these were all Keith’s songs.
“But yeah, people will say ‘Keith was the one that liked blues.’
“I really like pop music now, listen to it all the time – Keith doesn’t.
“I still like blues but I like dance music and Keith doesn’t really like it.”
Beatle Sir Paul McCartney has brought “the dirt” with his fuzzy bass contribution to the Stones’ track ‘Bite My Head Off’ off their new album ‘Hackney Diamonds.
Keith said: “Macca wanted to put the dirt on it, we were like, ‘OK.'”
Bassist Ronnie Wood just let slip that Macca is on another song that had to be cut from the record but will be released at some point.
He said of teaming up with the ‘Let it Be’ hitmaker in an interview with NME: “The school boy! He was so happy. He actually played on two tracks, one which we’ve got up our sleeve for, you know, more music to come because we cut about 23 songs and we only picked the first 12.”
Ronnie would love for the Stones to play the entire album live, but his bandmates won’t allow it.
Asked how many of the new songs will make their setlist, he replied: “That’s the next thing. Next week, we’re going to see how they translate live. I have complete faith. We could play the whole album, you know what I mean? But [Mick and Keith] will go, ‘Oh no Ron, that’s so ambitious.’ We’re not gonna forget the back catalogue. There are certain songs, ‘Paint It, Black’ and ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’, that have got to be played. We’re only making room for, say, three or five songs.”

Jay-Z recalls Hype Williams asking for an eye-watering $1.8m to direct his music video

OHMYGOSSIP — Jay-Z has claimed Hype Williams once asked for a whopping $1.8 million to direct one of his music videos.
The ’99 Problems’ rapper teamed up with the director on the music promo for his 1997 song ‘(Always Be My) Sunshine’, which featured collaborator Foxy Brown.
However, he wasn’t willing to fork out the outrageous “$750,000 to $1 million dollars” the filmmaker demanded, with his budget sitting at “around $20,000”.
In a feature for Complex in honour of Hype, Jay recalled: “It was this whole circus. I think he had elephants. I think he may have given the idea to Busta [Rhymes]. I don’t remember exactly what it was, but I remember being blown away by it.”
He continued: “I was like, ‘Hype, come on, bro.’ Like I got mad at him.
“Like are you trying to play me? You think I’m dumb?”
Hype ended up accepting a lower amount, but the video was a “cheap version”, which Jay regrets.
The ‘Encore’ hitmaker went on: “I learned a valuable lesson from that.
“Either I’m going to trust Hype’s vision or I’m going to go with another idea. Don’t condense ideas. Either shoot the brilliant idea or move to another idea. Don’t take a brilliant idea and make it less and then expect brilliant results. That’s not how life works.”
He concluded: “We broke down the idea and it looks like a cheap version of what we were trying to shoot.
“So we did it to ourselves. But then you realise in hindsight that the money, it’s just money. But the visuals are priceless. The Missy [Elliott] video is priceless. The Busta video is priceless.”

‘Man, I hope so’: Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan reveals whether rock will live forever

OHMYGOSSIP — Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan hopes rock will live forever but admits a lot of young music fans are attending their shows.
The 59-year-old rocker hopes the fact that their shows are attended by teens isn’t a sign that they are not attending new rock artists’ concerts.
Asked if the genre has a future, he told Classic Rock magazine: “Man, I hope so.
“I see these young people coming out to Guns show, and I’m, like, ‘Man, it’s cool you’re coming to see us, but there should be a band that’s 21 or 22 that you’re f****** losing your s*** to.’ I don’t know if it’ll be the same, but I f****** hope so.”
Meanwhile, Duff hailed his idol and collaborator Iggy Pop as his “deity” and admitted it’s weird being friends and working with his childhood hero.
He shared: “To me, there’s Prince and there’s Lemmy and there’s Iggy.
“And Iggy is a deity to me – it’s hard for me to have a regular relationship with him, because he’s been a hero of mine since I was 12 or 13 years old and I discovered The Stooges.
“Back when I played on a record with him in the early 1990s, I was drinking. I was a little bit more, ‘Yeah, man, f*** yeah!’ But doing that last record with him now, and playing those shows with him [in April 2023], he’s such a hard worker. He’s kind of like James Brown in how he runs a band.”
As well as praising the way he leads a band, Duff says Iggy, 76, was a huge hit with his daughters Grace Elizabeth and Mae Marie.
He continued: “He had a band, which was me and [Red Hot Chili peppers drummer] Chad Smith and Jamie [Hince, guitarist] from The Kills and [guitarist/producer] Andrew Watt. We’re professionals, y’know. But he’ll call Chad “drummer”. He has notes on every song and he’ll go, ‘OK guys, gather round. Drummer! Can you hit that on the upbeat?’
“He did ask one of the other guys if he smoked. ‘Maybe you should have a cigarette on that song.’ I was thinking, ‘I really hope I don’t get asked to smoke a cigarette on that song.
“But he really is very good at running a band, and he’s very appreciative of musicians. And my two daughters both f****** love him. They came to one of the shows, and I see him over in the corner enraptured in a conversation with them, just going for it. He’s an all-round nice guy.”

Dave Grohl was living in ‘squalor’ before Nirvana success

OHMYGOSSIP — Dave Grohl was living in “squalor” before finding success with Nirvana.
The 54-year-old drummer joined the band when they were working on the follow-up to their 1989 debut album ‘Bleach’ and he shared a small apartment with frontman Kurt Cobain which was littered with rubbish and cigarette ends but that all changed when they released ‘Nevermind’ in 1991 which propelled them to fame.
During an appearance on the ‘Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend’ podcast, Dave said: “We were kids and so when you talk about the amount of time that’s gone by, to me it’s not even so much about the years. It’s about the experiences that just kind of led, one after another, going from three kids that were basically living or touring out of a van to then becoming a huge band …
“Before we made the record ‘Nevermind’, we were pretty much living in squalor. I was living with Kurt in this tiny little apartment and there were just corn dog sticks and cigarettes all over the place. It was f****** disgusting. I would have done anything to have my own apartment and to be able to do that through making music.”
He added of how the record changed their lives, Dave added: “By 1992/1993 we were living in a different world than we were just 16 months before.”
However, the rocker insisted the change wasn’t as dramatic as many thought as they didn’t become millionaires overnight. He explained: “I know the transition happened really quickly, but you didn’t just wind up with a million dollars in your mailbox the next day. It [was like going up] to $15 a day – you’re like: ‘I can get two packs of cigarettes a day’. And then it went to: ‘Oh my gosh we’re staying in a motel, I’m sharing a room with Kurt but it’s not someone’s floor’.”
Dave went on to add he didn’t feel bad about suddenly having money to spend. He said: “I really didn’t feel conflicted … or any guilt or shame in paying off my mother’s house or I bought my mother a car or I can now afford to buy a new pair of shoes … I knew the band hadn’t done anything outside of our true selves to get there. We just did the thing that we did … I was just really happy to finally be able to support myself as a musician.”

Pete Townshend is creating a new rock opera

OHMYGOSSIP — Pete Townshend is turning his novel ‘The Age of Anxiety’ into a “full opera”.
The Who guitarist is “working” on turning his 2019 book into a stage show that will soundtracked by new songs.
The 78-year-old musician told The Sun’s Bizarre column: “I am still developing the score and recording the music.
“I am also working on a documentary about the project, from its inception in 2007 until today. I’m probably two years off completing it, at which time I hope to perform it with a full opera and a cast of guest singers.”
Pete previously create The Who’s rock operas; 1969’s ‘Tommy’ and 1973’s ‘Quadrophenia’.
‘The Age of Anxiety’ show will explore society’s fears for the future with the impact of global warming and terrorism looming large, the detrimental effects of social media and how that is producing a generation of people with mental health issues.
Pete’s The Who bandmate Roger Daltrey is working on his own passion project, a biopic about the band’s late drummer Keith Moon, who died aged 32 in 1979 from an accidental drugs overdose.
Roger, 79, previously said: “I’ve written a film script about his life because I have never met anyone in my life similar to Keith. He was the funniest man I ever met.
“But he couldn’t control his talent.
“If you were trying to make a film and you asked him, ‘Could you do that again?’, he’d go, ‘No’. He couldn’t do it again.
“Everything was polar opposites with him.
“Yes, he was incredibly flawed, he had incredible tragedy in his life.
“But everybody who knew him, who met him, loved him.”

Kylie Minogue wants to start ‘working’ her next album during Las Vegas residency

OHMYGOSSIP — Kylie Minogue wants to start working on her new album when she is in Las Vegas performing her residency.
The ‘Padam Padam hitmaker only released her 16th studio LP ‘Tension’ in September but she is ready to start work on her next record in-between her ‘More Than Just A Residency’ shows that kick off on November 3 at the The Venetian.
The 55-year-old pop star told the Billboard Pop Shop podcast: “How I feel about it and how I feel about my main co-writers is we’ve tapped into something that I’d love to explore more.
“I don’t think I’ll be that fast but I do think I’ll start working on it (in Vegas).”

She said: “I just send them a message, ‘incoming, expect blah, blah, blah, turn it into magic if it isn’t.
“But I only send stuff that is fit to be sent.
“There’s some people I work with – the team I talk about a lot – that I could send something that was terrible, like, ‘Here’s the idea, just something to get us going.’ I would feel comfortable with these people, but not with everyone.”
The former ‘Neighbours’ star recently revealed that she had been given her “blood, sweat and tears” prepping for her stint in Sin City, but it was “all worth it” for her dedicated fanbase travelling to see her perform in the flesh.
She said: “Bruises, sleepless nights, all of those things, But the pay-off is the fans. They’ve got their babysitter, they’re taking the time off work, spending their money to come to a show. So the blood, sweat and tears is all worth it.”

SEVENTEEN’s Seventeenth Heaven is the most pre-ordered K-pop album in history

OHMYGOSSIP — SEVENTEEN’s new mini-album is the most pre-ordered in K-pop history.
The group’s distributor YG Plus, has revealed that their 11th mini-album ‘Seventeenth Heaven’ racked more than 5,206,718 saves, meaning they have knocked off Stray Kids’ record for their May offering ‘5-Star’, who in turn had beat the SEVENTEEN’s FML’ in April this year.
The band will drop the collection of eight new songs – which have been revealed to be ‘SOS’, ‘Diamond Days’, ‘Back 2 Back’, ‘Monster’, ‘Yawn’, ‘Headliner’ at 6 pm KST along with the video for ‘God of Music’.
Recently, Pledis Entertainment revealed that frontman S Coup – who leads the band alongside Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, The8, Seungkwan, Vernon and Dino – will not be involved in the promo for the project as he is still “vulnerable” after having anterior cruciate ligament and anterolateral ligament reconstruction surgery two months ago.
They said: “The affected area is still in a vulnerable state. Rehabilitation treatment is crucial at this stage, and he has received medical advice that it would be best to avoid any physically taxing activities for the time being.”
S Coup confirmed the news that he was taking “a break”.
He wrote on the community app Weverse: “I wanted to participate in activities as much as I could, but I’ll take a break to focus on rehabilitation so I can see you all in the long term.”
The band has proudly opened up about how important they find to be one of the few K-pop groups involved with writing and producing the music.
Woozi told Refinery29: “At the end of the day, regardless of what is going on, our music is what we sing and what we show our audience,” adding that they felt it was vital their material was “sincere” and showcase their “genuine nature” to their ‘Carats’ – the nickname for their followers based on their 2015 hit ‘Shining Diamonds’ – as he thinks “that is why our Carats like our music”.

‘We will never, ever get back together and replace Lemmy. That’s impossible…’ Mikkey Dee says Motorhead will not reform

OHMYGOSSIP — Mikkey Dee says Motorhead reforming is “impossible” without Lemmy.
The ‘Ace of Spades’ band’s drummer is adamant that no one could replace the late frontman – whose real name was Ian Kilmister -on the microphone following his death in 2015 at the age of 70 from prostate cancer and heart failure.
The 59-year-old musician told Chaoszine magazine: “I said, ‘We will never, ever get back together and replace Lemmy. That’s impossible.”
Mikkey did admit that he would be comfortable performing Motorhead songs with his band Mikkey Dee with Friends.
He added: “I will never be a part of trying to put Motorhead as a band out there again with some other f****** idiot supposed to take Lemmy’s place. So that’s all I said. But to do [Mikkey Dee with Friends] – fantastic. And, of course, we’d like to plan something bigger than this in the future, hopefully.”
Mikkey – who has played drums for Scorpions since 2016 – is proud of the music that he wrote with Motorhead guitarist Phil Campbell, 62, but he says they are just too busy with projects at the moment to reunite for new songs.
Mikkey said: “I’m fully involved with Scorpions. We’re touring a lot. Not right now, obviously, but we’re on the road all the time with the Scorps. So I don’t say no; there’s always possibilities.”
Upon the news of Lemmy’s passing, the band asked their loyal fans to “play Lemmy’s music loud. Have a drink or few. Share stories. Celebrate the LIFE this lovely, wonderful man celebrated so vibrantly himself”.
