Girls Aloud add 14 more tour dates due to phenomenal demand

OHMYGOSSIP — Girls Aloud have added 14 more dates to their 2024 UK and Ireland arena tour after selling 200,000 tickets.
The girl group – which is made up of Cheryl, 40, Nicola Roberts, 38, Kimberley Walsh, 42, and Nadine Coyle, 38 – have tried to keep with the phenomenal demand for their reunion tour ‘The Girls Aloud Show’, after 10 years apart and the tragic death of their fifth member Sarah Harding aged 39 in 2021 after being diagnosed with breast cancer by tacking on some more stops.
Girls Aloud – who were put together on 2002 talent show ‘Popstars: The Rivals’ and got their first number one with debut single ‘Sound of the Underground’ – will now open the tour a day earlier on 17 May at Dublin’s 3Arena.
They have added extra nights at the SSE Arena Belfast, the Manchester AO Arena, the Newcastle Utilita Arena, the Glasgow OVO Hydro and the Birmingham Resorts World Arena.
‘The Loving Kind’ hitmakers have also added Sheffield’s Utila Arena to their itinerary and London will see Cheryl, Nicola, Kimberly and Nadine four times in total as they’ve added two more dates at The O2 arena and the closing night will take place at Liverpool’s M+S Bank Arena on June 30.
In the wake of their reunion announcement, the foursome declared themselves to be “women” with “wisdom” after their time apart to explore other avenues such as television, musicals, motherhood and solo careers.
Cheryl – who has six-year-old son Bear with ex-boyfriend Liam Payne, 30 – told Gay Times: “We’ve had a decade distance, which is healthy for everyone, and it’s 21 years now of Girls Aloud. It feels like the stars have aligned, and we’re women now. We’ve got wisdom. We’ve got perspective. There’s something really cathartic and healing about this whole process.”
Kimberley – who has sons Bobby, eight, Cole, six, and Nate, two, with husband Justin Scott – added: “It’ll be nice to revisit it after 10 years off. When you’re doing the songs day-in, day-out, you get complacent. You almost don’t see the beauty in them as much. When I’m listening again now I’m like, ‘These are great!’”
The shows will act as a tribute to Sarah, but the band members accept it won’t be the same without their late friend.
Speaking to Sky News, Cheryl said: “It will never be the same again, we accept that, but we’re going to make a new type of sparkle with her in it.”
Nadine added: “You’re reminded so constantly that she isn’t here. She is very much a part of who we are still, a huge part.”

Damon Albarn’s ‘super power’ is his writing and creativity, says Gorillaz bassist Seye Adelekan

OHMYGOSSIP — Gorillaz bassist Seye Adelekan has praised Damon Albarn for never wanting to stand still creatively.
The musician has toured with Damon and Jamie Hewlett’s band since 2017 and says the 55-year-old singer’s “super power” is always wanting to grow as an artist and work with the most exciting and diverse people.
Speaking on the ‘Meet At The Hotel Bar’ podcast, he said: “I think his super power other than his amazing writing, which is great, he puts great people in a room together. He makes sure cool people are in the same room, everyone gets better by having this cool, diverse mixture of people in a room at the same time. I think that’s what he does best, he opens people up to new things because he is allergic to repeating himself.
“He cannot do it, physically it doesn’t work for him. We can play the same song 100 times every time we play it there’s something different about it. He’s also not worried if it goes wrong, we’ve re-started songs on big stages, like, just stop it, start again. If he makes a pure clanger he’s like, ‘Mate let’s re-do that.’ We’ve done it first song of a set before.
“There’s an openness to seeing what happens as well as a high level of professionalism and a high level of work that goes into it. Also, there’s an abandon and a let go of it.”
Seye also described Damon – who began his music career as the frontman of Blur in the 1990s – as a very “loyal” person and artist who sticks by his crew and touring bandmates.
The bass player added: “He’s the biggest musical influence on my life.
“It’s quite hard to put into words, because he’s done so much for me and not just professionally, obviously he’s kept well employed for a decade. When I think of him I think of someone who is loyal, number one. All the crew and all the people in the band have been there for 10 years plus. Especially the crew, it’s the same guys who work with Blur and have been with him since the ‘90s. That says a lot, I think, about him.”

Olivia Rodrigo’s music inspired by ‘weird’ moments in her life

OHMYGOSSIP — Olivia Rodrigo takes inspiration from “weird” and “embarrassing” moments in her life.
The 20-year-old ‘Good 4 U’ singer – who has most recently been linked to actor Louis Partridge, 20, and whose exes reportedly include music executive Zack Bia, 26 – added she loved seeing the ‘Priscilla’ film and enjoys reading Dolly Alderton’s books as she loves the writer’s take on messy romances.
She told Variety when asked if there was any storytelling she had been impressed by recently: “I saw Sofia Coppola’s ‘Priscilla’, and I can’t stop thinking about it. I think she’s such an incredible storyteller.
“I’ve got Patti Smith’s ‘Year of the Monkey’ on my bedside table, and I’ve read ‘Just Kids’ and ‘Woolgathering’.
“I’ve also been reading a lot of Dolly Alderton lately. She wrote one of my favourite books – ‘Everything I Know About Love’.
“My mantra in life, anytime something weird or embarrassing happens to me, is ‘I’m just collecting stories for the memoir. I’m just here to collect fun memories that I can talk and write about later.’
Olivia also said in the chat she is trying to write a song every day to keep her mental health in check.
She added: “These days, I try to write one song every day. I just feel like myself when I’m writing.
“If I don’t do it, I get depressed. I’m just writing songs to process what’s going on, whether in my personal life or in my perception of the world.”
Olivia added about the writing process for her second album ‘GUTS’: “The experience tested my confidence and patience. It taught me some important lessons about songwriting in terms of focusing on your craft rather than just waiting for inspiration to strike.
“It taught me about the mindset that is most conducive to writing: You can never sit down at the piano and try to write something that everyone will like; that always results in a really bad song.
“It taught me that I write songs that I want to hear.”

Girls Aloud to tone down costumes for reunion tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Girls Aloud will tone down their outfits for the reunion tour.
The surviving members of the group – Cheryl Tweedy, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh – are hitting the road across the UK and Ireland in 2024 but will not be wearing revealing outfits this time as they do not want to embarrass their children.
Speaking about their costumes on Jessie Ware’s Table Manners podcast, Cheryl – who has son Bear, six, with former partner Liam Payne, said: “It definitely won’t be a leotard.”
Kimberley – who has sons Bobby, six, Cole, four and Nate, two, with her husband Justin Scott – added: “A catsuit I can get on board with but I don’t think my children would appreciate it.”
However, Nadine quipped that she is willing to flash the flesh if the others don’t.
The 38-year-old star, who has daughter Anaiya, nine, with her ex-partner Jason Bell, joked: “Well I’ll have my bum out, I’ll take one for the team.”
The tour will honour the life of former bandmate Sarah Harding – who died of breast cancer in September 2021 at the age of 39 – and Cheryl explained that the plans to get back together had been put on ice when Sarah received her tragic diagnosis.
The 40-year-old star said in a statement: “We all started talking about the possibility of doing something to celebrate Girls Aloud’s 20-year anniversary a few years ago. The anniversary seemed like an obvious thing that we would celebrate.
“But when Sarah fell ill all priorities changed. She passed away a year before the anniversary and it just didn’t feel right, it felt too soon.”
Cheryl continued: “But now, I think there is an energy that does makes it feel right. It’s the right time to celebrate Sarah, it’s the right time to celebrate the band and the right time to celebrate the fact we can still do this 21 years later. That’s a big honour in lots of ways.”

Radiohead set to return after ‘little break’, says drummer Philip Selway

OHMYGOSSIP — Radiohead are gettng ready to return after having a “little break”, according to the band’s drummer Philip Selway.
The British indie rock band haven’t released new music since 2016 album ‘A Moon Shaped Pool’ and haven’t performed live since 2018, but after enjoying a lengthy hiatus founding member Selway believes that the group, also comprised of Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Colin Greenwood and Ed O’Brien, are getting to the point of wanting to reconnect.
Appearing on a live stream with the Crow Hill Company, the musician said: “We’ve actually had a little break for a minute; the last show that we did was back in 2018, but we’re coming back ’round to that point now. There is just something particular to that relationship – that creative relationship and personal relationship – actually, you can’t get anywhere else.
“We’re all coming back around to that point now of thinking, ‘Right, we’ve had a break – this is it. This feels like something to dive back into and really explore and see what other directions it can take us in.”
During their break, singer Yorke and guitarist-and-keyboardist Greenwood have formed new band The Smile with Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner.
The trio released their debut LP ‘A Light for Attracting Attention’ in 2022 and will unveil second album ‘Wall Of Eyes’ in 2024 as well as setting off on a UK and EU tour.
Earlier this year, Selway explained the motivation for Radiohead’s break, revealing that the members wanted to pursue various side projects.
Speaking to Prog magazine, the 56-year-old drummer said: “We’re always talking about stuff. But in terms of an actual kind of collective project, beyond the ‘Kid A’ and ‘Amnesiac’ stuff that we’ve been doing, it’s kind of further down the line for us when that will happen. We’re talking about that, but at the moment everybody’s doing their own thing.
“When the pandemic happened, we’d always planned to take a veer off from Radiohead around that, so we could get on with other stuff. But that just meant that those other projects kind of grew, so we’re allowing time for all of those projects to go where they need to. But yeah, we’ll get together soon and in the next couple of years there will be something there, of some sort.”

Pete Doherty listens to late friend Amy Winehouse’s music ‘most days’

OHMYGOSSIP — Pete Doherty listens to his late friend Amy Winehouse’s music “most days”.
The Libertines singer – who has had his own well-documented struggle with drug addiction – finds it hard to talk about the untimely deaths of his pals, including the ‘Back to Black’ singer, who succumbed to alcohol poisoning in July 2011, aged 27, and Alan Wass, who passed away following an injection of heroin, but they are always in his thoughts.
He told Rolling Stone UK: “It’s quite difficult for me to talk about.
“Both Amy and Alan Wass, I listen to their music most days. So, I do think about it all, but I’d rather not just say offhand comments. My heart breaks when I think about some things and this is just one of them.”
Pete’s battle to overcome his addictions and get clean has been documented in new film ‘Stranger In My Own Skin’, which was made over several years by his wife Katia de Vidas.
The ‘Don’t Look Back Into the Sun’ singer feels lucky to still be alive himself.
He said: “It’s taken some absolutely unearthly skills for me to be standing here.
“Well, not standing, but slouching.
“I think I’ve been pretty on my toes, to be honest, dodging bullets. I’m full of holes but the bones are just about holding together. I’m battle-scarred and stumbling, but still here.”
Meanwhile, Pete’s bandmate, Carl Barat, admitted he has always done his best to be “supportive and understanding” towards his friend, but things were complicated by his own mental health struggles.
He said: “I’ve had a lifelong battle with depression of my own, to be honest with you.
“Pete’s problems didn’t help, but I always did my best to be supportive and understanding because we all have these problems and were never able to name them.
“Whether it’s depression or addiction, but I’ve had a lot of chaos and my own problems.”

John Lennon’s killer ‘said sorry to witnesses for ruining their night’

OHMYGOSSIP — John Lennon’s killer is said to have apologised to witnesses after he assassinated the singer.
The Beatle was shot dead aged 40 by obsessed fan Mark David Chapman, 68, outside his New York City apartment block on December 8, 1980, and a new Apple TV+ documentary contains a claim from one onlooker the murderer said sorry for “ruining” their night with his shooting.
One of the witnesses says on the three-part ‘John Lennon: Murder Without a Trial’ series: “He actually apologised to us. He said, ‘Gee I’m sorry I ruined your night.’”
The witness said they responded: “You gotta be kidding me, you just ruined your whole life.”
Actor Kiefer Sutherland, 56, narrates the documentary, due out on 6 December, and its makers say they were granted extensive Freedom of Information Act requests from the New York City Police Department, the Board of Parole and the District Attorney’s office.
It features interviews with John’s friends as well as Chapman’s defence lawyers, psychiatrists, detectives and prosecutors.
Also talking on the documentary are Richard Peterson, a taxi driver who witnessed the shooting and Jay Hastings, a doorman at Lennon’s apartment building who heard his last words – said to be “I’m shot”, or “I’m hit.”
The show’s title is taken from the fact there was minimal investigation of the murder as Chapman waited at the scene and plead guilty as soon as the police arrived.
He was sentenced to serve a prison term of twenty years to life for second-degree murder.
In 2020, Chapman publicly apologised to John’s wife Yoko Ono, 90, during a parole hearing by saying: “It was an extremely selfish act. I’m sorry for the pain that I caused to her. I think about it all of the time.”
Chapman was denied parole for the 12th time last year, meaning he will remain behind bars until February 2024 at the earliest, while John’s voice features on the newly-released Beatles track ‘Now and Then’.

Jesus and Mary Chain brothers FINALLY heal sibling rivalry!

OHMYGOSSIP — The Jesus and Mary Chain’s Jim Reid says he and his brother William Reid have “had to” learn to live with each other.
Notorious bust-ups between the siblings have included punch-ups and endless screaming matches that sometimes ended in bouts of destruction, but Jim, 61, has now said he and his older brother, 65, have finally stopped pushing each other’s buttons.
He told the NME when asked if they have now healed their sibling rivalry, which broke up their band in the 1990s: “We’ve kinda had to. We’re brothers, and family brings you back together. “Also, if we want to be in a band we have to learn how to not wind each other up.
“In the ’90s, when the band broke up for that period, we would go out of our way to annoy each other and it isn’t healthy. It wasn’t that simple.
“It’s not like that’s why the band broke up. There was a lot more to it than that. “But we had nine years in the wilderness, broke up for nine years, we got back together and by that time, we’d kinda patched up our relationship.
“But I knew the claustrophobic environment of being in the band together again, it would have to be different from the way it was back in the ’90s.
“There are certain things, like he’d say something and if I respond in this way it will cause an explosion and I’m sure that he kind of addressed those issues in a similar way to me.
“If you want the train to keep on rolling you know what to do what not to do, and that’s where we’re at.”
The brothers have just announced their new album ‘Glasgow Eyes’ is on the way, and have shared new single ‘jamcod’ from the record.
Their 2024 tour will mark 40 years since the release of their debut single ‘Upside Down’, and Jim said about the new album: “You go into the studio and you just feel your way around.
“I guess what you’ve been listening to most lately has some sort of impact on the production values – writing, it’s always the same old deal really. I suppose that we were thinking it would be quite good to muck around with some synths and maybe just tweak the sound a bit.”
Jim added the ‘jamcod’ single came from “remembering painful past issues”.
He added: “It was about the break-up of the band,” he explained. “It was actually about the night in the House of Blues when the band broke up (in 1999.)
“There’s another song, ‘Chemical Animal’, which is similar but different in as much as I was thinking back to the drug days and what it was like.
“When you get that deep into (it), it’s like everything’s acting on instinct and you become like an animal and it’s all about drugs.
“It’s your driving force, the thing that gets you from a to b is whether you can score. It was a horrible way to live and I’m glad I don’t do that anymore.”

Olivia Rodrigo tries to write a song every day to stop herself getting depressed

OHMYGOSSIP — Olivia Rodrigo is trying to write a song every day to keep her mental health in check.
The 20-year-old singer, who released her second album ‘GUTS’ in September, also admitted the process of writing the record tested her confidence and patience.
She told Variety: “These days, I try to write one song every day. I just feel like myself when I’m writing.
“If I don’t do it, I get depressed. I’m just writing songs to process what’s going on, whether in my personal life or in my perception of the world.”
Olivia added about how she struggled with the writing of ‘GUTS’: “The experience tested my confidence and patience.
Olivia also told how she wrote her recent single ‘Can’t Catch Me Now’ for the new ‘Hunger Games’ prequel film – ‘The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ – saying: “I watched the film first and then wrote the song. It was a really interesting challenge for me to write something from the perspective of a character in a movie because I feel like I’m very direct in my songwriting; I write about what’s going on in my life.
“Even though I tore through the books as a kid, I didn’t watch the films until this year.”

KISS star Paul Stanley worried ‘it was his time’ during health scare

OHMYGOSSIP — KISS star Paul Stanley was worried “it was his time” during his recent health scare.
The 71-year-old musician recently came down with the flu which forced the ‘Rock and Roll All Nite’ glam rock legends to cancel three gigs on the final leg of their ‘End of the Road World Tour’, with the last show coming at New York City’s Madison Square Garden this weekend.
During a pre-show question and answer session before their recent Indianapolis gig, Paul reflected on the severity of his illness.
He said: “I’ve done shows with cracked ribs, I’ve done shows with a 102 [degree] fever. I was wondering if it was my time.”
Shows were scrapped in Ottawa, Toronto and Knoxville on November 21, 22 and 24 and they’re not likely to be rescheduled.
He previously wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “I’ve done everything possible to get onstage and be a part of the incredible 2 1/2 hour celebration we planned but this flu has made it impossible.
“I along with Gene, Tommy and Eric couldn’t be more disappointed and send our deepest apologies.”
The band – which also includes made up of Gene Simmons, 74, Tommy Thayer, 63, and Eric Singer, 65 – could still work on other KISS-related projects after their final tour.
Simmons told 519 Magazine: “This tour is the end of the road for the band, not the brand.
“KISS is a universe of its own – movies, merchandise, maybe even Broadway. The band will end, but the KISS experience… it’s immortal.”
And he is open to the ‘Detroit Rock City’ group handing over the “baton” and having younger talent continue under the band’s name.
He previously told Rolling Stone: “You want to go out while you’re on top.
And remember, we introduce ourselves with, ‘You wanted the best, you got the best, the hottest mofo band on the planet, Kiss.’ At some point, those words are not going to mean very much, when I’m in my rocket-propelled wheelchair with a hot nurse pushing me around.”
Asked if he would allow other musicians to keep the band going, he replied: “I’m totally open to that idea.
“Why not pass the baton, pass the crown to four new, young people who are deserving?”

OHMYGOSSIP — Taylor Swift has thanked her “touring family” after wrapping her final ‘Eras’ show of the year.

Taylor began her reflection by thanking Brazilian fans for their support over the final dates of this year, six concerts in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.
She wrote on X, the site formerly known as Twitter: “Bringing a tour to Brazil has been something I’ve dreamt of for years, and those fans blew my expectations away. We’ve officially wrapped up the 2023 Eras Tour and we got to end the year with 6 shows in Rio and São Paulo, with the most magical crowds.”
The 33-year-old star then thanked her stage crew and fans.
She continued: “I’m so grateful to my touring family, my band, crew and dancers for everything they put into this show all year. To the people who came to see it, you are what made those stadiums feel so alive and electric and unforgettable for me. Really just feeling so proud and moved by what I got to be a part of. See you in 2024.”
Taylor will get back on the road in February, when she takes her ‘Eras’ tour to Japan, Australia and Singapore, before embarking on the European leg in May, and returning to the US in October.
Meanwhile, Billy Joel is among those who caught the ‘Cruel Summer’ singer in action this year and he admitted his daughters Della, eight, and six-year-old Remy – who he has with wife Alexis Roderick – were very impressed that he took them to her Florida gig.
He told People magazine: “I got very cool dad points. Oh, she’s great. She’s really very good. We’re going to probably go see her again.”
At the time, the Grammy Award-winning star – who also has 32-year-old Alexa with model Christie Brinkley – took to social media to share a carousel of photos from their time at the concert and thanked the ‘Love Story’ songstress for putting on such a good show.
He wrote on Instagram: “Rockin’ into our new ‘era’ thank you @Taylorswift we loved the show!”

Evanescence star Amy Lee admits 50 cent ‘hates her guts’ after award show snub

OHMYGOSSIP — Amy Lee has admitted 50 Cent “hates her guts”.
The Evanescence frontwoman has reflected on the band winning best new artist over the ‘In Da Club’ hitmaker at the 2004 Grammy Awards following their 2003 debut ‘Fallen’ – which triumphed over the rapper’s own first release ‘Get Rich or Die Tryin” – after the rapper walked on stage as she delivered their acceptance speech.
Speaking to the Daily Beast: “50 Cent hates my guts. It’s just one of those things… I mean, truthfully, we thought he was going to win too.
“It was such a wild night. People are like, ‘What was it like to win a Grammy?’ and I’m like, ‘Stressful!’
“I mean, it’s wonderful now, to have them, but it was surreal… I just remember thinking, ‘I don’t even think anybody in this room knows who we are.’ ”
She pointed out that 50 Cent didn’t do anything “bad” when he interrupted her speech, but noted he still talks about “how he was robbed”.
She added: “He didn’t do anything, he didn’t grab the mic, it wasn’t that bad. He just sort of like, made an appearance.
“No, he never said anything to me, but he likes to talk about me and how he was robbed. I don’t want to start a beef with him.”
When the rapper was awarded his Hollywood Walk of Fame star in 2020, the hip hop star ranted about the snub 16 years earlier.
During his speech, he said: “You got the largest debut hip hop album [but] you don’t got no Best New Artist trophy.
“The Best New Artist, they gave that to Evanescence. Can you find Evanescence? I ain’t seen Evanescence since that night. Since that night they gave them the trophy.”
