My songwriting has become more thoughtful, says Billie Joe Armstrong

OHMYGOSSIP — Billie Joe Armstrong’s songwriting has become more “thoughtful” over time.
The 51-year-old star – who is the lead singer of Green Day – believes that his approach to songwriting has evolved during the course of his career.
During an appearance on the ‘Q with Tom Power’ podcast, he explained: “It’s easy to sing songs when you’re younger … songs like, you know, smash the state. I’m like, ‘Yeah, I believe that’. [But] do I believe the 50-year-old man who says smash the state?
“I think when you get older, the world becomes a lot more complex and nuanced in what’s going on.
“As time goes on, your … your views change.”
Billie Joe explained that he’s particularly careful with his lyrics when he’s writing “topical and political” songs.
He shared: “It’s taking everything line by line, especially when you’re writing stuff that’s topical and political. I want it to come from the heart just as much as a love song.”
Asked to elaborate, Billie Joe replied: “You want it to be smart and thoughtful.”
Meanwhile, Billie Joe previously admitted that he doesn’t want to write too many political songs.
The singer fears that he would “take the heart out of it” by saturating the market with political music.
He told 102.1 The Edge: “[With] political songs, it takes a lot of heart to do that, and I think if you keep doing it for the sake of doing it just because you’re angry, then you take the heart out of it. Then it just becomes part of what everyone is complaining about.”

Liam Gallagher and John Squire announce self-titled album and 2024 tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher and John Squire have unveiled their self-titled album and announced a 2024 tour.
The former Oasis frontman, 51, and ex-Stone Roses guitarist, 61, have already released the singles ‘Just Another Rainbow’ and ‘Mars to Liverpool’, which arrived today (26.01.24), both of which are in the vein of their respective former Britpop and Madchester groups, and fans can get their hands on the full record on March 1.
The pair will then hit the road for a series of intimate shows in the UK, Ireland, Italy, France, Germany, and America, including two nights in London at the O2 Forum Kentish Town on March 25 and the Troxy on March 26, which holds just 3,100 people.
They’ve also unveiled their band, including bassist Barrie Cadogan – who has worked with Liam’s arch-nemesis sibling Noel Gallagher’s longtime pal Paul Weller, whom Liam has mocked over the years – and Joey Waronker (R.E.M. and Beck) on drums.
Jake Bugg is set to support the pair on all dates except Brooklyn.
Liam said: “I can’t wait for people to hear the album. I think the people that are into the Stone Roses and Oasis and that kinda thing, I think they’ll [redacted] love it. It’s spiritual, it’s crucial. LG x.”
John added: “It was really inspiring to have those Knebworth gigs fresh in my mind as I started writing. Then it was a case of trying to steer it away from all being too rocky, and trying to mix up the sentiments as well. I like the way that in some parts, it’s quite melancholic and it can make you well up, but there are other parts that are kind of irreverent, rude or crude. There’s a little bit of everything in there, I think it’s a really good mix. I had a hunch that we’d sound good together, but I wasn’t prepared for it to be such a good fit.”
Liam first teased the project after he surprised fans by bringing John out for his pair of Knebworth shows in June 2022 to perform Oasis’ 1995 classic ‘Champagne Supernova’, as he did at their iconic 1996 gigs there.
‘Live Forever’ hitmaker Liam has boasted that the upcoming collection is “the best record” since The Beatles’ ‘Revolver’.

YUNGBLUD and Lil Yachty drop trippy new single

OHMYGOSSIP — YUNGBLUD hopes his and Lil Yachty’s collaboration ‘When We Die (Can We Still Get High?)’ inspires the “future of alternative and hip-hop”.
The alt rocker has joined forces with the ‘Top Down’ rapper on the new track, out today (26.01.24), which turns out has been in the making for five years, and he hopes it can influence a whole new generation of alternative and hip-hop music.
YUNGBLUD – whose real name is Dominic Harrison – said: “Me and Yachty have been talking since 2019 and I’ve always thought we were on the same trip – **** the rules, push things forward.
“So, when I wrote the song, I knew he’d add something amazing. I wanted this moment to be a collision of each other’s imagination and sound. I’m really excited about it and for what it could potentially inspire between the future of alternative and hip-hop. Press play.”
The slow-burning track is ethereal and trippy and continues Yachty’s psychedelic rock experimentation.
The dramatic accompanying music video – which was filmed in Atlanta, Georgia – sees YUNGBLUD immersed underwater doing somersaults, with water bubbles coming out of his nose and mouth before he gets company and receives a hug whilst still submerged.
The latest collaboration comes after YUNGBLUD teamed up with Bring Me The Horizon on their second song together, ‘Happier’, which follows 2020’s ‘Obey’.
The 26-year-old star also released the singles ‘Lowlife’ and ‘Hated’ last year.
As for Yachty, also 26, whose real name is Miles Parks McCollum, he swapped out his signature trap style for psychedelic rock-influenced tunes on his fifth studio album, ‘Let’s Start Here’, released last January.
In 2022, YUNGBLUD revealed he had a “full psychedelic rock album” ready and waiting to be released, but he sounded unsure if it will be released.
He said he wants to release it in one go without any singles.
He told Billy Corgan’s ‘Thirty-Three With William Patrick Corgan’ podcast: “I’ve got another album – I don’t know when it’s going to come out.
“It was [recorded around] New Year’s Day 2021… we made a full psychedelic rock album in a month and it’s just sitting there, and I don’t know when it will come out yet.”
He continued: “I just want to kind of drop it and let it be a thing. I don’t want to work a psychedelic rock album. There’s no singles, just one kind of feeling the whole way through that I just want to drop at some point.
“Everyone is going to ask me what the single is – I just want to let it be.”
The ‘Funeral’ rocker’s last studio album was 2022’s ‘Yungblud’.

Dua Lipa’s upcoming single Training Season is about ‘a string of bad dates’

OHMYGOSSIP — Dua Lipa’s upcoming single ‘Training Season’ is about having a “string of bad dates”.
The 28-year-old pop star has dated the likes of model/chef Isaac Carew, LANY singer Paul Klein, model Anwar Hadid, television host Trevor Noah, director Romain Garvas, and is now said to be dating ‘Boys In The Boat’ star Callum Turner.
And the ‘Houdini’ hitmaker has confessed that some of her flings were like “training” for meeting the one who will treat her right.
Dua said of the track: “I had been on a string of bad dates, and the last one was the final straw. The next morning I arrived to the studio to [co-writers] Caroline [Ailin] and Tobias [Jesso Jr.] asking me how it all went and I immediately declared ‘TRAINING SEASON IS OVER,’ and like the best ‘day after’ debriefs with your mates, we had a lot of laughs and it all quickly came together from there.”
She added: “And while it is obviously about that feeling when you are just absolutely done telling people…men specifically in this case, how to date you right; it is also about my training season being over and me growing with every experience. I have never felt more confident, clear, or empowered. And while it may be that training season is never over for any of us, you start to see the beauty in finding that person to experience it with. You stop looking for the trainees and become more interested in having someone where you are and someone to grow with.”
A 30-second clip of the tune is already available for fans to use to soundtrack their TikTok videos, ahead of its release on February 15.
‘Training Season’ is the second single from her upcoming third studio album and follows the euphoric dance anthem ‘Houdini’.
Meanwhile, the ‘Levitating’ singer – who is starring in the new spy action movie ‘Argylle’ after her cameo in ‘Barbie’ – has just landed three BRIT Award nominations including Artist of the Year, Best Pop Act and Song of the Year for ‘Dance The Night’ from the latter flick.

Benjamin Ingrosso launches new era with personal single ‘Kite’

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Eurovision’ star Benjamin Ingrosso is back with the raw new single ‘Kite’.
The 26-year-old Scandi pop star – who is the cousin of Swedish House Mafia’s Sebastian Ingrosso – represented Sweden in the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest with the Bieber-esque dance-pop earworm ‘Dance You Off’, following in the footsteps of fellow Swedes ABBA, and he’s back with a soaring new single that is the start of a whole new era.
Speaking of his new music, he said: “The rawness and grit of punk have been given more space, and I have consciously chosen not to have a more polished and ‘modern’ sound.
‘Timelessness’ is a keyword for everything I’ve tried to create now. The lyrics are more straightforward, written from personal experiences but sometimes with a broader perspective.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been as excited about my music as I am with this song, and all the new music you’re going to get from me this year.”
The upbeat tune, which draws inspiration from his childhood, is the perfect blend of classic Swedish pop and soul from the 70s and the late 90s.
‘Kite’ is the first track to be taken from Benjamin’s upcoming album, due out later this year, which follows his second English album, 2022’s ‘Playlist’.
Stream ‘Kite’ now on all major platforms.

The Feeling announce new album San Vito, share lead single The Right Wrong

OHMYGOSSIP — The Feeling have returned with the new single, ‘The Right Wrong’, taken from their upcoming album ‘San Vito’.
The ‘Fill My Little World’ group – comprising Dan Gillespie Sells, Richard Jones, Kevin Jeremiah, Ciaran Jeremiah, and Paul Stewart – have unveiled details of their follow-up to 2022’s ‘Loss. Hope. Love.’, which arrives this April.
The British rock band recorded and self-produced the collection in a studio in Puglia, southern Italy, hence the album’s title, named after the town San Vito Dei Normanni, where they immersed themselves in the local culture, food and pizzica music, which subsequently influenced the sound.
In a statement, the five-piece said: “2023 was a big year for us. Dan moved on from the Doghouse, our long-term base and studio, so in January we decided to try something different and headed to a studio in the Salento region of Puglia, southern Italy to write some songs and see what happened. Just like when we first recorded ‘Twelve Stops…’ in Kev and Ciaran’s parents’ shed, being locked away together and focused on our creativity as a band was a winning formula. After the first week we came back with five songs and a vibe on the recordings that felt exciting, fresh and very much ‘The Feeling’!”
They continued: “We made the decision to write and record the whole album there, and over the course of the year we ventured back out, with the album coming together in no time. The sun, food and culture seeped through into the sounds we were making. We brought in local brass, strings and pizzica/tarantella percussion players. It’s very much an album by The Feeling but with a little Salento flavour mixed in, and we’re very excited for you all to hear it.”
The new tune is about “freeing yourself from judgement”.
Frontman Dan – who co-wrote the music for the hit musical ‘Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’ – said: “Freedom is a subject that fascinates me. I grew up queer in a queer household so people’s idea of right and wrong were something we dealt with daily. This is just a pure pop song that playfully encourages the listener to make their own rules.”
‘San Vito’ – which will have some featured artists – “focuses on themes such as relationships, LGBTQ+ community issues and sexual freedom.”
Their new album comes as bandmember Richard’s wife Sophie Ellis-Bextor is experiencing her own resurgence after her hit ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ was featured in a viral scene in the movie ‘Saltburn’.
The full record is released on April 12, and a UK tour will follow in May.

Morrissey cancels California shows

OHMYGOSSIP — Morrissey has cancelled his upcoming concerts in California.
The Smiths star had been due to perform at the Honda Center in Anaheim on Friday (26.01.24) and at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum on Saturday (27.01.24) to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his album ‘You Are The Quarry’ but he called off both shows at the last minute citing “unforeseen circumstances”.
A post on Instagram read: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, Morrissey’s You Are The Quarry anniversary show on January 26 at Honda Center is cancelled. Tickets will be automatically refunded to purchasers.”
The message was repeated for the Kia Forum show.
Morrissey had planned to play the 2004 album – which features the single ‘First of the Gang to Die’ – in full during the pair of concerts.
The singer’s next gig is scheduled for February 3 in Mexico City, Mexico and he also has a series of shows booked in for South America.
It comes as the veteran musician continues to struggle to get his new album ‘Bonfire of Teenagers’ released due to a dispute with his former label Capitol Records.
Morrissey had hoped to drop the record in 2023, but the project got derailed after the singer left his label and management company in 2022.
During an appearance on ‘Good Day New York’ last October, Morrissey said of the stalled project: “This album was recorded in January 2021 and Capitol signed it and didn’t release it, but they’re now prepared to give it back to me for a certain price.
“It’s been quite traumatic and quite sad because when you record something, you want it to be available immediately and it was very much of the time. For me, it was a very personal thing and the fact that it hasn’t been released has been torture.”

Justin Timberlake recorded 100 songs for new album

OHMYGOSSIP — Justin Timberlake recorded 100 songs for his new album.
The 42-year-old singer admitted one of the biggest challenges he faced with his upcoming sixth studio album ‘Everything I Thought It Was’ was narrowing down the tracks but he is very proud of what made the cut.
He told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1: “I worked for a long time on this album and I ended up with 100 songs. So narrowing them down to 18 was a thing, and then, yeah, I’m really excited about this album. I think every artist probably says this, but it is my best work.”
The ‘Like I Love You’ hitmaker explained the title for the record came as a result of the feedback he was getting from his friends.
He said: “I was playing it for people around me. They’re like, ‘Oh, this sounds like everything we know you for.’
“And then another friend of mine was like, ‘Oh, this sounds like everything I thought I wanted from you.’
“It was like that sort of phrase, in one way or another, was in the air.
“And I thought to myself about how some of the songs are more introspective and some of them are more what I think people know me for.”
Justin – who has two sons with wife Jessica Biel – felt “really good” to be able to speak honestly through his lyrics on the record.
He said: “It just really feels good, the thoughts, and emotions, and feelings that came to me in writing these songs and the people I collaborated with and got to share these moments with.
“And so how I feel like I was able, on some of the songs, to look back at the past and have a real, not a refracted perspective of what it was because they always say … you always hear that thing about, well, there’s never any truth, there’s just everybody’s perspective of what happened, but to really look at it and be able to metabolise and verbalise my perspective on it, I don’t think I’ve ever really done that before.”

Corey Taylor came close to ‘relapse’ as mental health hit rock bottom

OHMYGOSSIP — Corey Taylor came close to a “relapse” as his mental health hit rock bottom.
The Slipknot frontman has previously battled PTSD and has opened up about why he was forced to cancel his solo North American tour this year whilst he gets his “heart and mind” in order.
In an Instagram video, he began: “The truth of the matter is, I understand why so many of you are upset. I’m just going to break it down for you. I, over the last year, have had a complete and utter breakdown of boundaries, mental health, ego, entitlement, the whole nine years culminating in a very, very real, very near relapse.
“I kinda don’t recognise myself. Again, I wanted to address this and just tell people that I needed time to reset, I need time to start working on my heart and mind and get straight. The reason I’m keeping the Southeast Asia run is, it’s literally four shows, it’s literally a week. I’m gonna see how I do with that and take it day by day basically.”
Corey will still complete four shows in Southeast Asia and Slipknot’s 25th anniversary tour of the UK and Europe will still go ahead. However, the ‘All Out Life’ rocker, 50, admits it’s going to be a “long road” before he’ll feel ready to resume business as usual.
He explained: “I’m working on self care right now, I’m getting the help I need, and surrounding myself with my family. To everyone concerned with me, thank you very much, I appreciate it. To anyone who’s upset, I hope this answers your questions.
“I’m just doing the best for me right now, it’s a long road and I don’t know what’s at the end of it but I look forward to it, I have gratitude for it and I hope you can show me some patience.”
He originally announced: “It is with a heavy heart that I announce the cancellation of my upcoming North American tour. For the past several months my mental and physical health have been breaking down, and I reached a place that was unhealthy for my family and I.
“I know this decision will come as a shock to some and may be regarded as unpopular by others – but after taking a hard look at where I am and where I was going, I need to pull myself back and be home with my family for the time being. “I send my love to the fans, my band, my family friends, and everyone who’s helped me get here thus far. I promise I’m doing everything I can to be as healthy as I can be. Until then, my apologies to everyone we would have seen on the tour – and hopefully we’ll see you again down the line.”
Explaining that his song ‘Post Traumatic Blues’ from his solo record ‘CMF2’ is based on personal experience, he previously told NME: “It was one of those songs that I didn’t want to just be about me and my experiences – I wanted it to be a bridge between people who are dealing with PTSD and the people who are desperately trying to understand the nuances of what people have to go through. It’s one of the reasons why it tears families apart and went so undiagnosed for so many years – we never saw the rainbow of symptoms and issues that come with it.”

Guns N’ Roses use AI for The General music video

OHMYGOSSIP — Guns N’ Roses have shared an AI-generated music video for ‘The General’ featuring animated versions of the band.
Axl Rose and co teamed up with Dan Potter, the creative director of London studios Creative Works, to produce a promo that blends real-life concert footage with comic-like graphics using a combination of Artificial Intelligence and real design.
A press release explained: “Between the concert footage, [the video] dives into the subconscious of a young boy who stares down the monsters of dark childhood memories, blurring worlds in the process. The result is unlike anything the band has done before and continues a longstanding historic tradition of bold visuals from Guns N’ Roses.”
‘The General’ was released in December, as the B-side to ‘Perhaps’.
The ‘Patience’ rockers released two tracks, ‘Absurd’ and ‘Hard Skool’, both reworked outtakes from 2008’s ‘Chinese Democracy’, in 2021.
‘Perhaps’ and ‘The General’ are both from that era as well.
The notorious record was delayed for years and held up by legal hassles, while guitar-slayer Slash, bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Matt Sorum quit the group, and only frontman Axl and keyboardist Dizzy Reed remained.
Slash has previously teased more new music from the hard rock band.
However, he later admitted he and his bandmates hadn’t penned any new material since reuniting.
He said in October 2021: “As far as new Guns is concerned; we haven’t even gotten to that point of really in earnest sitting down and writing.
“We’ve been doing a lot of material that’s been sort of sitting around for a while. So that will be a whole focused endeavour unto itself.”
The band reunited with original members Slash and Duff for the 2016 ‘Not in This Lifetime… Tour’.
Axl, Slash and Duff’s last studio album was 1993’s ‘The Spaghetti Incident?’.
