‘It was the perfect storm!’ Tommy Hilfiger recalls dressing stars Puff Daddy and Tupac

OHMYGOSSIP — Tommy Hilfiger used to dress rap stars so they would “look rich.”
The 71-year-old designer was known for his preppy clothing in the late 1990s and decided to gift rapper Grand Puba thousands of dollars’ worth of clothes when he mentioned him on a track, which led to the demand for his fashion to be worn in the music industry, especially after late R and B star Aaliyah – who died at the age of 22 in a 2001 plane crash – took part in a photoshoot for his jeans and Snoop Dogg wore a rugby shirt on ‘Saturday Night Live.’
He said: “The clothes were very inspired by yachting, prep schools, Ivy League and New England, where more aristocratic privileged Americans lived and summered in Cape Cod, Nantucket and the Hamptons. It was actually Russell Simmons, who really is one of the godfathers of hip-hop, who said to me that young street kids and rappers wanted to wear the clothes because they wanted to look rich.”
The famed designer went on to add that rappers suddenly wanted “everything oversized” and the hybrid between the sports world and the music world became the “perfect storm” as he recalled working with tragic rapper Tupac – who was shot dead in 1996 – as well as ‘I’ll Be Missing You’ singer Puffy Daddy.
He told The Guardian newspaper: “I love sports and wanted to be sporting. So then I started doing big logos. But they wanted everything way, way oversized, because they were buying sizes that were way too large. And so I started just making oversized, and it was a perfect storm. I was dressing Puff Daddy for his tours. I was dressing Biggie Smalls. I was dressing Tupac!”

Paris Hilton: ‘My fashion sense has evolved!”

OHMYGOSSIP — Paris Hilton thinks her sense of style “evolves” as her life goes on.
The 42-year-old heiress was a reality TV favourite in the 2000s with ‘The Simple Life’ alongside Nicole Richie before tying the knot with Carter Reum in 2021 – with whom she has a two-month-old son – and explained that while she loved wearing denim back in the day, she would like to bring back velour tracksuits into the mainstream because they are still a “staple” in her wardrobe.
She said: “There are so many [that I’d like to bring back], but I would say my personal faves are all things denim — low-rise jeans and denim minis — the velour tracksuit, and bedazzled and metallic everything. I think with each new stage in life, my style evolves accordingly. Lately, I’ve been spending a lot of time in my favourite staple that doubles as the most comfortable outfit in my closet — velour tracksuits.”
The ‘Paris In Love’ star has launched a limited edition tracksuit with Klarna and went on to add that she “can’t wait” for her other favourite trends to come back as she noted how much the post-purchase payment company has helped shopping “evolve” since its launch in 2015.
She told Popsugar: “Hello Kitty accessories and the colourful slashed flowy skirt — so hot. I love all things Y2K and can’t wait to see even more of my fave trends make a comeback. It’s wonderful seeing people get creative and put a modern spin on styles from the era that at one point everyone thought weren’t cool anymore. The velour tracksuit is so iconically Y2K, and since the campaign is about how Klarna has helped shopping evolve, we also wanted to launch an upgraded version of the tracksuit. Since the 2000s were all about trying new styles and playing with fashion, we had to add tons of sparkles for a major statement piece! Loves it.”

Shania Twain: I can finally look at myself naked!

OHMYGOSSIP — Shania Twain has always been “very shy” about her body.
The 57-year-old country star began to feel “tortured” by her body when she was a child but eventually found “freedom” from her insecurities when she appeared topless in the music video for ‘You’re Still The One’ in 1997.
She said: “I’ve been very shy about my body from a very young age… to the point where I would not go to the beach in a bathing suit… I would say probably really tortured by it from the age of 10. I was 30 when I had my first radio hit… In that video, I’m braless, I’m allowing the platform of stepping out of my daily self into this world of video-making and making decisions that give me this freedom to, like, do things I wouldn’t normally do in my daily life.”
The ‘Man! I Feel Like a Woman’ hitmaker posed topless once again her “Waking Up Dreaming” single cover in 2022 and reflected that the shoot has meant she has found a “confidence” in seeing her own body.
She told ExtraTV: “It meant, can I look at myself in the mirror with the lights on? Now, I’m really looking at myself and going, ‘Okay, look, things are sagging… All kinds of things that, you know, I don’t want to really show off. I do this naked photo shoot and it changed everything for me. I want to be able to stand, but go, ‘Yes, I am a woman that is comfortable in her own skin. It’s not like I’m trying to show my nakedness to the world, I’m trying to show that confidence in your own nakedness is necessary.”

Jennifer Coolidge: I was so nervous to put make up on a dead body!`

The 61-year-old actress was a cosmetology student before finding fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s with supporting roles in ‘American Pie’ and ‘Legally Blonde’ but was relieved to learn that the mortuary section of the course was “virtual.”
She said: “I was very nervous about the mortuary makeup part, but it turned out we didn’t work on any bodies or anything — it was all sort of virtual. We never had to actually do it on a corpse. It wouldn’t be my first choice.”
When it comes to doing her own makeup, the ‘White Lotus’ star explained that she likes to apply her products out of a traditional “order” and always tries to keep her face looking as “moisturised” as possible.
She told PEOPLE: “I put products on out of order. I put the primer on after my makeup, because I feel like it makes me look extra dewy. I always want to look like there’s moisture on my face. I use ice cubes on my face every day because I want to look like I just walked up a flight of stairs.”
What’s more, the Emmy Award-winning actress appears alongside pop superstar Jennifer Lopez in the comedy ‘Shotgun Wedding’ and admitted she was tempted to ask the ‘Jenny From the Block’ hitmaker if her eyelashes were real, but was too scared to do so in the end.

Catherine, Princess of Wales recycles Alexander McQueen frock for 2023 BAFTAs

OHMYGOSSIP — Catherine, Princess of Wales wore the same Alexander McQueen dress to the 2023 BAFTAs that she was first seen wearing in 2019.
The 41-year-old royal – who has been married to Prince William since 2011 and has children Prince George, nine, Princess Charlotte, seven, and four-year-old Prince Louis with him – returned to the red carpet for the 76th British Academy Film Awards held at the Royal Festival Hall in London on Sunday (19.02.23) for the first time in three years and recycled an outfit she had worn to the ceremony previously.
Catherine wore a one-shoulder gown designed by Alexander McQueen but added a couple of new twists to the look in the form of a pair of black opera gloves and some floral earrings from high street shop Zara, whilst the Prince of Wales – who has served as the President of BAFTA since 2010 – opted for a bow-tie and black dinner suit and black loafer shoes.
The Prince and Princess are regulars on the red carpet at the ceremony, but pulled out of their planned 2021 appearance following the death of Prince Philip, who passed away just one day before the awards show – which was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic – took place on 10 April at the age of 99, and last year the pair were absent due to “diary constraints.”
However, the Prince of Wales – who was known as the Duke of Cambridge prior to the death of his grandmother Queen Elizabeth last September – did make an appearance by way of a video message where he noted he was “extremely proud” of the work that the awards body continues to undertake.

Winnie Harlow wasn’t ‘supposed to be a model’

OHMYGOSSIP — Winnie Harlow was “never supposed to be a model”.
The 28-year-old star has recalled working at La Senza and looking at the models wishing she could do what they were doing, and she went onto become the first person with Vitiligo to ever walk the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show runway.
She told ET Canada: “It’s funny to me now that I’ve actually created a lane for myself in this industry that there was never a lane set.
“People will be like, she’s already a model because of her skin. I’m like, Well, it was actually the opposite. I was never supposed to be a model because of my skin.
“I’ve actually fought against that but I’m like oh… you must think my skin is beautiful now, which nobody thought before. So, you know, it’s a double-edged sword, but there’s beauty in it.”
Vitiligo is a long-term condition where pale white patches develop on the skin, which is caused by a lack of melanin.
Winnie hopes to continue breaking down barriers for other people with the condition who dream of becoming a model.
She said: “I think the biggest challenge today would be still breaking down those doors that, God bless, I was able to push down those doors to walk through.
“But keeping those doors open for others to walk through… making sure that it isn’t just tokenism.
“Making sure that it isn’t just there’s one face or there’s one person who can. Everyone is able to.”
Meanwhile, her biggest “pinch me” moment is whenever she finds herself around Naomi Campbell.
She added: “Any time I’m walking the same show as Naomi Campbell… it’s kind of a gag. Whoever knew I would be, you know, walking behind the footsteps of someone who knocked down so many doors for me to be able to do what I’m doing… It’s insane.”

There are all these great companies that they work with, and for me, the exciting ones are those that are conscious and responsible.”
Alicia believes Cher Horowitz – the teenage shopaholic with a heart of gold in the 1995 Amy Heckerling-helmed flick based on Jane Austen novel ‘Emma’ that also starred Stacey Dash, Donald Faison, Paul Rudd and Breckin Meyer – would also make “socially responsible” purchases when putting together looks.

Emily Ratajkowski uses fragrance on as a ‘last touch’

OHMYGOSSIP — Emily Ratajkowski puts fragrance on as a “last touch” when getting ready.
The face of Viktor + Rolf Flowerbomb says the perfume “has a real power to it” and loves spraying it just as “a shot of confidence and glamour” before vacating the premises.
The 31-year-old model told Elle.com: “It’s the last touch before I go out the door. I’m sure that’s not the proper way to do it, but it’s what I do, because I think perfume is the last moment of doing something for yourself before you walk out the door and meet other people. It’s that moment of connecting it to my look, and my mood. And Flowerbomb has a real power to it. It’s a shot of confidence and glamour.”
Emily – who has son Sylvester, 23 months, with her ex Sebastian Bear-McClard, 42 – admitted she doesn’t like to meet people she deems her “heroes” but called fashion designer Donatella Versace as the “exception” to the rule when she interviewed her on her podcast, ‘High/Low’.
She said: “My experience has been, ‘Don’t meet your heroes,’ unfortunately. But I think she’s the exception. She tells it like it is. Though I will say, for better or worse, I hate small talk. So whether I’m talking to you on the podcast or at a party or dinner, I’m just going to pry a little bit! People are so interesting, so I want to get to the meat of things…but the podcast has also made me realize that I’m what they call an ‘active listener,’ which basically means I’m an interrupter. I’ll say, ‘mm-hmm’ or ‘yeah’ or I’ll tell my own story to show I’m listening, or we’re on the same page. Hearing that on a podcast has made me realize that, now that I have the mic, I can learn to shut up a little bit more. That’s not a bad thing!”
