Yohji Yamamoto: I’m not a rebel, I’m a crime

OHMYGOSSIP — Yohji Yamamoto never “follows the rules” when it comes to fashion.
The Japanese designer is an innovator of avant-garde and at 79-years old continues to redefine clothes by pushing the boundaries and breaking the rules.
His dark, stoic, over-sized and distressed looks have been described as radical, effective and ground breaking.
Growing up with a widowed mother has made the Japanese designer an advocate for women who does his protesting through clothes by using fashion to shift the narrative.
He told W: “I never follow rules. I like to break them. I’m not a rebel, I’m a crime. I hate it. I want to change it, because at that moment, women and girls were treated as dolls for men. I don’t like it.”
Yohji continues to be an enigma and confound expectations of the elderly through his process and futuristic vision.
He added: “Fashion is the last chance, the last capability for how I can work and where I can come from. I’m tired. But when I finish one collection, I don’t make myself go any other way.
Yohji has always viewed women’s bodies as whimsical which make him feel like he’s “travelling in the desert” and has aimed to make clothing without the male gaze where women can feel empowered instead.
He said: “Next collection for women, I will try a 17th-century or 18th-century European concept.
“At the beginning, when I was young, I was studying a lot from tailoring, but it became so boring. I often suffer from women’s corsets. I hate them, but sometimes I start with a corset which I can move or relax for women. So in that way, I’ve twisted it.”
Enchanted by the colour black, Yohji’s first Paris collection in 1981 was inspired by an aesthetic of imperfection opposed to the confinements of formal dress.
He said: “I was walking around the city, and so many ladies and women were wearing colorful clothing.
“It bothered me and my eyes. So I just started with black. Everything started from there.”

Courtney Cox regrets the years she spent sunbathing

OHMYGOSSIP — Courteney Cox regrets frying her skin in the sun when she was younger.
The ‘Scream’ actress admits she was a sun worshipper in her teenage years and her 20s, but now she wishes she didn’t spend so many hours soaking up the sun’s UV radiation because it does such damage to your skin.
Cox has warned her 18-year-old daughter Coco – her child with ex-husband David Arquette – to limit her sunbathing and shows her the sun damage on her own skin to hammer home the message.
Cox, 58, told BAZAAR.com: “I mean, the obvious is sun care. Don’t lay in the sun and don’t fry. I always say to my daughter, Coco, your skin is incredible. Let me show you my chest. Then she’s like, mom, I would never have that kind of skin. I’m like, yeah. Your face you always look at, but you forget your body. Wear sunscreen and care about your body. Really use the right products because it catches up.”
The ‘Friends’ star – who played Monica Geller in the sitcom – now makes sure she always wears sunscreen before playing sport or enjoying a day outside to keep her skin protected.
She explained: “I love the Dynamic Skin Recovery Sunscreen. I play tennis. I’m out in the sun a lot. And even if it didn’t have sunscreen, I would use it. It’s so illuminating and gives you so much moisture. I love the way it smells too. I use that and I use it all over my body because I’m lucky enough to be able to do that.
“I love the Phyto Nature Oxygen Cream which I use at night. It’s very hydrating and it smells good as well. But it really works. That’s what I love about this.”

The former Victoria’s Secret model, 49, teamed up with her 18-year-old daughter Leni for an underwear shoot for Italian lingerie brand Intimissimi, sharing the shots on her social media account.
Heidi’s caption read: “If you see me and @leniklum on billboards all over Germany … tag us and we’ll share our favourites on our stories!”

‘We have this eco-friendly King!’ King Charles to recycle robes for coronation

OHMYGOSSIP — King Charles will “reuse” the golden robes worn by his predecessors at his upcoming coronation.
The 74-year-old monarch – who acceded to the throne upon the death of his mother Queen Elizbeth in September 2022 – will be crowned in an official ceremony at Westminster Abbey on Saturday (06.05.23) and it has now been claimed that he is to wear the robes once worn by his grandfather George VI for his coronation in 1937, and later used by Elizabeth during her own ceremony in 1953.
Caroline De Guitaut, Deputy Surveyor of the King’s Works of Art, explained to CBS News: “His majesty the king has decided to reuse pieces from the coronation of his grandfather, King George VI, in 1937. It is woven from cloth of gold and embroidered with goldwork embroidery to a design which has a strong tradition. There are two of the most significant pieces worn by the sovereign during the investiture, they haven’t been worn for 70 years.”
What’s more, the King – who will be coronated alongside his wife Queen Consort Camilla and ill be seen in a range of historical robes throughout the ceremony – is said to have been keen to remain “sustainable” for his coronation ceremony and will reportedly wear the same glove as well the sword belt his grandfather did almost 90 years ago.
Deborah Moore, CEO of Dents Glovemakers, said: “We’ve got this wonderful, sustainable, eco-friendly king who’s reusing something rather than having a new glove.”
According to the outlet, the robes will weigh 13 pounds in total and the king’s nine-year-old grandson Prince George – who as the son of Charles’ firstborn is third in line to the throne – will help carry them through Westminster Abbey during the event.

Anna Wintour has ‘total control’ over the Met Gala guest list

OHMYGOSSIP — Anna Wintour is said to have “total control” over the Met Gala guest list.
The 73-year-old journalist has served as editor-in-chief of Vogue since 1988 and wants the philanthropic side of the magazine’s annual fashion event to be her “legacy” so she must approve every A-lister on the guest list herself before they are sent an invitation.
Amy Odell – author of ‘Anna: The Biography’ – told Grazia: “Anna has told friends she wants her legacy to be for her philanthropy. The Met Gala is the biggest philanthropic endeavour of her career, raising hundreds of millions of dollars for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is also, her friends told me, a fun night for her, even though it is also work. [She has] total control. No one gets into the event unless she approves them.”
According to Amy, Anna – who this year invited the likes of Doja Cat, Paris Hilton and Quinta Brunson to the event for the first time, whilst regulars Kim Kardashian, Rihanna and Cardi B also returned to the famous staircase – also likes the “over the top” looks that arrive on the red carpet and noted that even though the celebration has received criticism for becoming something of a “costume party” in recent years, the Vogue editor “enjoys the theatrics” of it all.”
She said: “One friend told me that she loves the over-the-top looks! A lot of people have criticised the gala for becoming too much of a costume party versus a black-tie event. But Anna – who remember, is a huge theatre fan – enjoys the theatrics. The first time she left her spot inside the museum where she greets guests was for the Camp Gala – she went outside to watch Lady Gaga come up the steps (her entry involved choreography and several outfit changes).”

‘So many people thought I dyed it!’ Jessica Chastain was ‘unrecognisable’ in blonde wig at Met Gala

OHMYGOSSIP — Jessica Chastain was unrecognisable in her blonde wig at the Met Gala.
The 46-year-old actress is known for her flaming red locks but decided to don a fake hairpiece for her appearance on the red carpet at the annual fashion event on Monday (01.05.23) and has now explained that she just wanted to channel late Chanel legend Karl Lagerfeld with the look.
She told ExtraTV: “So many people thought I dyed [it]… A lot of people didn’t even know it was me. I was just channelling Karl. It was a tribute to Karl Lagerfeld, so I was like, ‘Okay, let me channel him the best I can without it feeling like something silly.’ Gucci made me the most beautiful dress, gloves, let me borrow the most incredible jewellery, and then the sunglasses.”
The Oscar-winning star went on to add that a lot of people have urged her to make the move to being blonde permanently but believes it was just “more fun” to switch things up for the special occasion.
Asked if it was true that blondes have more fun, she added: “So many people are like, ‘You should stay blonde. I had a lot of fun that night, so I don’t know. They might [have more fun] It’s more fun when you get to change it up — that’s fun… I am going to be a blonde tonight.”
The ‘Eyes of Tommy Faye’ actress did confirm whilst on the stairs of the Met Gala that the look was not permanent and was just keeping in line with the theme of Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, which was designed to pay tribute to the late Chanel director following his death in 2019.
She told The Cut: “This isn’t forever, it’s for Karl. I was taking photos down there and the photographers were like ‘Who is that?'”

Rachel Brosnahan becomes ‘a caricature’ of herself on the red carpet

OHMYGOSSIP — Rachel Brosnahan loves playing a character when she walks the carpet at events like the Met Gala.
The glitzy event – arguably the most coveted evening in fashion – returned on Monday (01.05.23) with this year’s annual celebration paying homage to the late Karl Lagerfeld.
A-list stars ascended the stairs in haute couture whilst in theme with the Costume Institute’s spring 2023 exhibition ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’, and the ‘Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ star looked fabulous as she brought the glitz and glamour to the carpet wearing custom Sergio Hudson and Simon G Jewelry.
The 32-year-old actress has explained how she “embraced the female body” in her outfit and took it as an opportunity to have some fun.
She told Town and Country magazine: “It’s an opportunity to have some fun and play dress up to the fullest experience.
“Obviously when you’re on a red carpet, you’re playing a version of yourself—there’s definitely a performative element to it. I’ve been looking to perform something that was a little bit closer to myself and my style.”
Inspired by lesser-known parts of Karl’s legacy, Brosnahan’s dress “featured a lot of pure black mesh and beautiful crystal work” in the design which was adapted from a Chloé line Lagerfeld showcased in 1992.
She added: “We all agreed this is going to be a really fun and different direction to swing in for me—what better place to take a big swing than the Met Gala, a place where we’re there to celebrate great art through design?
“I’m so lucky to have worked with this team for a really long time—some folks were newer to me, but we’re always trying to challenge ourselves and raise the bar with every new look that we create together.
“These reunions, especially for big events like this, are always so much fun.”
In stark contrast to Monday’s get up, Rachel plays Iris in Lorraine Hansberry’s ‘The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window’ Broadway show.
Unlike the glamour galore of the met gala, Iris is a bare faced character dressed in “baggy, moreandrogynous clothes”.
She said: “I play a character who doesn’t really wear very much makeup and wears baggy, more androgynous clothes. I get to come on stage on a Sunday, then put on a look like the beautiful one that Sergio created on Monday? I’m pretty sure that’s the dream.”

Elle Macpherson is ‘more than just The Body’

OHMYGOSSIP — Elle Macpherson always felt like she was more than just ‘The Body’.
The 59-year-old beauty rose to fame in the 1980s after gracing the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue a record five times, and Time magazine later coined her iconic nickname in 1989.
Elle “embraced” her Amazonian physique which helped catapult her into the limelight alongside 90s supermodels like Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell and Claudia Schiffer – but she maintains she is more than just her nickname and used it to her advantage.
She told HELLO! magazine: “I never took it personally. I embraced my Amazonian athleticism. I wasn’t the ‘norm’ and there were times where I felt out of place. But I just used it. It’s easier to use it then lose it.
“It’s impossible for us all to fit into one body type! The one thing that never goes out of fashion is health and wellbeing. Also being in your own uniqueness, that’s always fashionable.”
The term ‘supermodel’ was first coined during the 80s for models who were stars in their own right, while the originals like Elle were innovators in fashion by changing the perception of the typical “blonde-haired, blue-eyed” American sweetheart.
She added: “The supermodel movement facilitated the uniqueness of women. We were all so diverse and our individuality was supported by the business. You didn’t have be a blonde-haired, blue-eyed American girl. That’s why we loved that group of girls as they were so different from each other and they leaned into their uniqueness.”
As she approaches her 60th birthday, Elle continues to push boundaries by pushing back against ageism in the industry.
She explained: “I’ve loved the flow of my own career and I feel much of my success is due to a willingness to adapt.
“To being a teenage model, to a successful entrepreneur in my thirties, a mother in my forties, starting WelleCo in my fifties and now shooting fashion campaigns at nearly 60, it’s been a wonderful ride. I believe that beauty is more aligned with wellness than youth.
“That’s how you can be beautiful at all ages.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Janelle Monae brought things “full circle” by honouring Karl Lagerfeld at the Met Gala.
The ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ actress wore Chanel when she first attended the star studded event in 2011 with the fashion icon by her side and she wanted to pay tribute to that on Monday (01.05.23) night.
Speaking before the gala, she told PEOPLE magazine: “I went with Karl, so this is sort of full circle for us to be honoring him. I’m really excited about what we’ll do.”
She arrived in a black and white Thom Browne tuxedo suit made up of fancy embellishments and a mismatch of patterns.

She explained: “It’s supposed to be fun. It’s supposed not to be serious. So I always enjoy people who are not stressed out over the Met Gala because I’m not.”

Kim Kardashian’s Met Gala dress made up of over 66,000 pearls

OHMYGOSSIP — Kim Kardashian’s Met Gala gown was made up of over 66,000 pearls.
The 42-year-old star made her 10th appearance at the Met Gala on Monday (01.05.23) night as she stepped out in an extravagant custom Schiaparelli haute couture dress by Daniel Roseberry.
As reported by Vogue, the skirt and top – which took 12 artisans a staggering 1,000 hours to make – were made from over 50,000 freshwater pearls and 16,000 crystal pearls.
Reflecting on her way of paying tribute to late fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld in line with this year’s theme, she told the publication: “I wanted pearls.
“I thought, ‘What is more Karl?’ You know, the iconic Chanel pearls is what I always thought of. So we wanted to just be dripping in pearls.”
However, she had a bit of a mishap on her way to the glitzy event in New York City as her daughter North, nine, had to pick up some rogue pearls.
She added: “Some popped on the way, and I told my daughter to grab them all. They’re real pearls and she was putting them all in her purse.”
Although North didn’t join her famous mum on the red carpet, she did ride with her in the car.
Kim had teased her Met Gala style earlier this week when she hung out with Lagerfeld’s cat Choupette, which she admitted was “a little scary”.
She said: “It takes a little while to warm up to her. She wrote me a sweet note and left it in my room. We spent some time together before this.”
Meanwhile, the reality star insisted there wasn’t any “pressure” for her to outdo last year’s Gala outfit when she wore Marilyn Monroe’s legendary ‘Happy Birthday, Mr. President’ dress.
She explained: “This year, I just wanted to feel glamorous. I really didn’t feel the pressure. I just wanted to have a good time.”
