Whoopi Goldberg’s style confidence dampened by reaction to her 1993 Oscars look

OHMYGOSSIP — Whoopi Goldberg says her feelings were hurt after she was ridiculed for her 1993 Academy Awards outfit.
The ‘Sister Act’ star, 67, was met with titters and a wave of criticism for donning an out-there look that consisted of a purple and green bedazzled jumpsuit with a long, poofy purple jacket with a bright green lining at the Oscars. and has now revealed it impacted her style confidence for years afterwards.
She told Page Six Style: “It kept me from dressing up for a very long time. You have to remember, in those days, they would say things, and you’d think, ‘Do I really look that ridiculous?’”
Whoopi added the outfit was inspired by one of her comedy icons, ‘I Love Lucy’ star Lucille Ball and her “great ensembles” she wore on set of the groundbreaking 1950s sitcom.
She said: “Lucy would always come out in these great ensembles, and I thought, I would like to wear that! And green is not a color I would normally wear; let me try it.”
When asked if she stood by her choice, Whoopi said: “Absolutely.”
‘The View’ star has previously spoken about the importance of wearing what “makes you happy” while slamming ageism in fashion commentary.
Whoopi told InStyle magazine in 2019: “People will always say to somebody young, ‘Oh, you’re dressing so old,’ and they will say to an older woman, ‘Oh, you’re dressing too young’.
“The clothes that we made, you could be 21 and wear it, you could be 65 and wear it, you could be whatever age you are and look good in it. And feel good in it. You’re not too old to wear anything that makes you happy. That’s the key. The only important voice, ever, is your own.”
Earlier this year, the comic got tongues wagging when she wore a pair of clear platform shoes packed with cut-off Barbie doll heads to celebrate the release of ‘Barbie’ but revealed she had owned the shoes way before the Greta Gerwig-directed blockbuster based on the Mattel doll, which starred Margot Robbie, 33, and Ryan Gosling, 42.
Whoopi added to Page Six Style: “Someone sent them to me and I thought, what are these?! It was about three years before Barbie. I did Barbiecore first!”

Offset: Confidence is the sexiest thing Cardi B can wear

OHMYGOSSIP — Offset fell in love with Cardi B’s “confidence”.
The 31-year-old hip hop star – who celebrated his sixth wedding anniversary with the ‘WAP’ hitmaker last month – has revealed that he was attracted to her single-minded attitude and relentless pursuit of success.
Appearing on the ‘Call Her Daddy’ podcast, Offset said: “I had seen her online, and I just loved the way… how raw she was and how confident she was.
“She didn’t give a f*** what nobody thought. And it’s just like damn, that’s fire. Funny, great personality, from what I could see, you know I’m saying? Like that’s a funny girl, she’s a cool girl, and then I shot my shot and I swished it.”
The ‘Open It Up’ rapper – who has daughter Kulture, five, and son Wave, two with Cardi – also admired her family values.
He added: “First off, she’s a family person. I pay attention to… f*** the music and all that s*** That s**t never mattered — that’s not what I look at.
“I look at your home values because I’m from the South, so I’m raised by my mother and grandmother. I come from strong women and I see how dedicated and determined she was to get to a certain place for her family.”
Cardi’s past as a stripper never deterred Offset from pursuing a relationship with the ‘Bodak Yellow’ singer as he resonated with her focus and determination
He added: “She comes from the bottom, from stripping, and she was still helping the family with that little money.
“It’s [also] her grind and her focus. You can’t tell her nothing and it’s the same way with me. There’s nothing, you can tell me I can’t do at all. I don’t care what you think. It’s that determination.”

Angelina Jolie: I don’t tell my kids how to dress

OHMYGOSSIP — Angelina Jolie doesn’t dictate her children’s fashion.
The 48-year-old actress – who has 22-year-old Maddox, 19-year-old Pax, 18-year-old Zahara, 17-year-old Shiloh, and 15-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne with ex-husband Brad Pitt – is a force of nature in fashion thanks to her reluctance in making a spectacle and embracing her authentic self.
She told Vogue: “I don’t tell the kids how to dress.
“Even when they were little, I just put things in front of them.
“Nobody has to go anywhere if they don’t want to, and if they don’t want to dress up, they don’t have to.”
She added: “I find it slightly funny that we are involved in fashion – I don’t think any one of us is overly ‘fashionable’.
“But because we live in our clothes, it is so much a part of who we are, and something that’s important to explore, especially for young people.
“I’ve always wanted to take my family to a place where I can say: does your clothing really represent you? Absolutely you? And do you love it? I think the average person would not think it does. But I think tailoring does that for you.”
Recently, the Hollywood star partnered with French luxury fashion house Chloe to create the sustainable Atelier Jolie range, which was co-designed by Jolie and Chloe’s creative director Gabrielle Hearst.
Jolie’s vision was to create clothes that women can feel safe enough to be soft in.
She said: “I want a woman to feel safe enough that she can be soft. After I went through something where I was hurt, I had a therapist ask if I would try wearing a flowing garment. Sounds silly, but I assumed that pants and boots projected a ‘tougher’ look, a stronger me. But was I strong enough to be soft? At the time, no. I felt vulnerable. Now I wonder if I don’t know what my style is because I’m still understanding who I am at 48. I guess I’m in transition as a person.”

Harriet Walter: I was told to fix my teeth and get a nose job at the start of my career!

OHMYGOSSIP — Harriet Walter has revealed she was told to “fix” her teeth and get her “nose done” at the start of her career.
The 73-year-old actress reflected on the unsolicited comments made by a man about her appearance as a young actress.
She told Vogue: “It seems to me that there were some old-fashioned attitudes around when I was coming up.”
Recalling the comments made towards her: “It was, ‘I would get your nose done.’ And somebody else said, ‘You should fix your teeth.’ And I ignored them. Partly out of laziness, partly because I never thought of myself as a looker.
“Bit by bit, I got a reputation for being good at acting, which was great.”
Harriet – who self-published a photo book titled ‘Facing It: Reflections on Images of Older Women’ about 50-plus women back in 2011 – ignored the suggestions about plastic surgery and embraced ageing instead.
She said: “Do I want to try and look younger? And do I want to do a lot of face surgery?”
Whilst motherhood was never on the cards for Harriet, the ‘Sense and Sensibility’ star often wonders if she made the right decision.
She said: “I punish myself and think, ‘Gosh, am I very selfish because I’ve travelled light-footedly through life?’ I do feel weird sometimes that I haven’t actually done that thing of giving birth. Here I am, at the end of my life, and I never did that? That’s gonna make you feel very old and grey.”
After a string of successful TV roles, Harriet will be marking her stage return in Federico García Lorca’s 1936 tragedy ‘The House of Bernarda Alba’ at the National Theatre next month.

I’m not a kid anymore – when it comes to my body, when it comes to my mentality, when it comes to how I move. Sometimes it’s crazy when I’m like, ‘Wow, I’m a mom.’ But I’m a cool mom. I’m a hot mom… You know that song that be like ‘Stacy’s mom / You got it going on.’? It’s like, wow, I’m really Stacy’s mom.”
The ‘Bongos’ hitmaker has worked hard in the gym and had liposuction to get back into shape following her two births, and knows she looks great and she won’t let any troll posting on her Instagram bring her down.

“I have done lipo. I have worked out. And if I feel like I look my best, for some reason, somebody will always find a flaw. That goes to show that you cannot please anybody, you gotta please yourself… Like, nobody can convince me that I don’t look f***ing good.”

‘I’m really cliché, but I think beauty comes from within,’ says Eva Longoria

OHMYGOSSIP — Eva Longoria thinks “beauty comes from within”.
The 48-year-old star – who was catapulted to worldwide fame playing Gabrielle Solis in ‘Desperate Housewives’ – hasn’t let herself get caught up in the glitz and glamour of Hollywood echoing the notion that confidence is the sexiest thing a woman can wear.
She told Cosmopolitan: “I’m really cliché, but I think beauty comes from within. I think there’s nothing more beautiful than when a confident, smart, secure woman walks into the room.”
Eva believes growing up as the “ugly duckling” changed her outlook on beauty.
She said: “My mom taught me that, so even though I grew up as the ugly duckling of my family, I didn’t have a bad relationship with beauty. What it taught me was don’t depend on it. I knew I was going to be the smart one, I knew I was going to be the funny one, so even though I’m on the ‘Most Beautiful List’ or an Ambassador for L’Oréal, it doesn’t solely define me”.
The Texan native says less is more when it comes to makeup and is embracing her natural beauty.
She added: “My favourite beauty era is right now. I’m going through a very natural phase; I love less makeup and less styling on the hair. I’m from Texas, so I’ve been through many phases of lots of makeup and then being on red carpets, with up-dos and hair extensions – I’m kind of done with it all now. I’m into more ‘no makeup makeup’, which is actually harder to do.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Camille Rowe says looking effortless takes a lot of effort.
The 33-year-old French beauty forged a career as a model aged 18 after being discovered on the streets of Paris and was catapulted to major fame as the face of fashion houses like Chloe, Louis Vuitton and Gucci.
Camille, who’s the epitome of French fashion thanks to her laidback style, owns the “French girl thing” calling it her “bread and butter”.
She told Vogue: “The stereotype has become even bigger than what it actually is, and [the way] French people actually dress.”
According to Camille, Parisian style, known as “chic décontracté” – which translates to casual chic – is about looking dressed up and laid-back simultaneously.
She added: “It takes a lot of time to look like you’ve done nothing.”
Echoing the late creative director of Chanel Karl Lagerfeld’s notion that “sweatpants are a sign of defeat”, Camille has admitted her aversion to tracksuits and leggings.
She said: “I ran into a French girlfriend on the street in Paris last week, and she said, ‘Don’t look at me, I’m coming back from Pilates! I was hoping I wouldn’t run into anyone.’ And when they do, they feel embarrassed by it. As a French person I find awful”.
The model is set to release her Camille Rowe X Reformation collection on 23 October.
The capsule collection reflects her relaxed attitude to glamour by incorporating dresses inspired by her own wardrobe.
She said: “In Los Angeles there is such a trend for the ‘clean girl’, so I just wanted something to look a little more decadent and sexy.”

Millie Bobby Brown cries over Instagram beauty pictures

OHMYGOSSIP — Millie Bobby Brown often cries over Instagram beauty pictures because she fears she will never look as perfect as the people she sees online.
The 19-year-old ‘Stranger Things’ star has admitted she struggles with her self-confidence and says she always gets upset if she is having a bad skin day and then goes on social media only to see other women looking totally flawless.
She told Glamour magazine: “I have a huge pimple on my face. And I’m going to go on Instagram, and I’m going to see five different girls that look beautiful! Flawless! Stunning! And, okay, slay … [I end up] sobbing, because I know, I know I don’t look like that.”
Millie also told the publication she tries to take care of her mental health by going to therapy, writing in a journal and practising self-care.
She said in a video chat: “I go to therapy, I journal, I take self-care days. “I think self-care is so focused on doing a facemask and putting a scrunchie in but actually, it’s lighting a candle and taking a moment to yourself, and counting your blessings and embracing your true inner self and nurturing that.”
In a previous interview, the actress revealed she doesn’t have many friends in Hollywood as she prefers to keep her social circle small, telling The Sunday Times: “You have to have good people around you. I don’t think it’s good to have expectations of anyone. It’s OK to change, to grow. I’m grateful that young girls use me as someone they are able to walk alongside, but if [we both] go in another direction, that’s OK too. I have a huge support unit and I think when you have friends who genuinely care about you it’s a huge help. I don’t have many industry friends at all, just Noah and some friends from college.”

Kim Kardashian shares her top skincare hack

OHMYGOSSIP — Kim Kardashian’s top skincare hack is mixing facial oil into her moisturiser.
The 42-year-old reality TV star has opened up about how she keeps her skin looking picture perfect – revealing she’s learned to embrace oil in recent years and she’s convinced mixing a little into a moisturiser gives her an extra “glowy” look.
She told Refinery29.com: “It’s a new thing for me; I used to like to be so matte before, so I never really used oil. If you get a spray tan, oils usually rub that off. I used to be so scared of oils and think, are oils going to give me oily skin or make me break out? None of the above. I use a little bit, mixed with moisturiser, you just look so glowy and it feels like the moisture holds.”
Kim also revealed her top top for autumn to keep skin looking good as the weather cools, adding: “For the fall, I always like to extra moisturize and extra exfoliate.”
She also explained her ever-changing style extends to her make-up as well as her clothes, adding: “I think that your style changes for sure. I used to love super matte make-up and I never thought I would like super creamy products. Now, I just want to look creamy and dewy … I wonder if I’ll go back to super matte in the fall …”
It comes after Kim revealed she often turns to TikTok for beauty inspiration. The SKIMS founder isn’t afraid to try “hair hacks” she learns about online and regularly splashes out on products she’s seen used in videos on the social media platform, even though she doesn’t know how effective they will be.
She told People magazine: “I love TikTok beauty content – I order everything to try, such as skin tools and products for beauty and hair hacks, even though it can be difficult to know what actually works. “I always ask my aesthetician for her opinion on trends, and she always gives me the best advice.”

Hailey Bieber shares biggest make-up fail

OHMYGOSSIP — Hailey Bieber says her biggest ever make-up fail was when she paired red lipstick with dark eyeshadow.
The 26-year-old model has become known for sharing her beauty tips online and has even launched her own brand called Rhode, but Hailey is adamant she hasn’t always been a whizz with cosmetics and it took time for her to learn what looks good on her.
She told Glamour magazine: “There’s been a few beauty disasters, like a bad red lip and a super dark eyeshadow that’s just not good. When you’re young, you think more is more. I’ve grown into myself and as I’ve gotten older, I feel like I understand what looks nice and what looks right for me with my skin, my hair, my features.”
Hailey insisted her style is more laid back and she always wants her looks to appear “effortless”.
She added: “For me it’s a less is more vibe. Effortless energy is something that I always want to stick to and that’s what I just gravitate towards. A lot of the time it is really just because I’m being lazy but I think it’s really about comfort at the end of the day and what makes me feel good. And I don’t feel super comfortable with a lot of makeup on.”
One of Hailey’s most famous make-up trends was her “freshly glazed” doughnut look and she previously revealed the secret behind her signature style is good skincare.
Appearing on Dear Media’s ‘Breaking Beauty’ podcast, she said: “For me, I just want to look like a freshly glazed, crispy cream donut.”
She added of changing her approach to skincare: “I remember being a teenager and [having] too many actives on the skin, thinking that is going to be the solution… “The way it’s changed for me is my approach. I’ve found more of a balance in how I treat my skin for the various phases and stages it’s going through.” Now, she goes with a relatively simple skincare routine, noting she doesn’t necessarily cleanse at the start of each day. She never goes out without wearing an SPF and also does a double cleanse with an oil-based cleanser at night.

Aja Naomi King ‘deserves’ to take time for her skincare routine

OHMYGOSSIP — Aja Naomi King “deserves” her skincare routine.
The 38-year-old actress initially felt guilty about taking any time to herself after she and husband Dan King welcomed son Kian into the world two years ago but has grown to realise she doesn’t have to “sacrifice everything” so she values going through her daily beauty regime even more.
She told Britain’s Cosmopolitan magazine: “Before I was a mum, I took for granted the time I would spend on myself and my skin. Becoming a mum you are filled with this overwhelming sense that you have to sacrifice everything about yourself in order to meet the needs of this tiny human that you’re doing your best to keep alive.
“With the help of friends and family, they gently reminded me that I matter and to take the time for myself. My skin routine has become so precious, to take that 15 minutes and not feel guilty for taking that time to massage my face. I deserve it.”
And if she had to choose between skincare or make-up, the ‘How To Get Away With Murder’ star will always opt for the former.
She explained: “I love make-up, but I really love taking care of my skin.
“To me, that’s what makes the make-up look so great.
“Giving myself a little face massage in the morning is my self-care. I love putting my eye serum in the refrigerator so that it’s nice and cool and then slowly rubbing that in – I’m having a great time.”
When it comes to managing stress, Aja loves taking ice baths as she finds them to be “really grounding” because they give her time to reflect and process her thoughts.
She said: “I manage stress by taking ice baths. I do them a couple of times a week, I find them really grounding and help me to manage stress. They help me breathe and think ‘You can figure this out’.”

“I always ask my aesthetician for her opinion on trends, and she always gives me the best advice.”
The ‘Kardashians’ star – who has North, 10, Saint, seven, Chicago, five, and Psalm, four with ex-husband Kanye West – learned a lot about skincare from her mom Kris Jenner and hopes to instill the importance of “self-care” in her own children.
She said: “Taking care of your skin is such a vital part of my self-care routine, and I hope to instil that philosophy of always making that time for self-care in my children. It’s so important to make that time for yourself, for your mind, body and spirit.”
Kim loves her own SKKN BY KIM Resurfacing Mask and uses it twice a week, and even on busy evenings she finds the time to let the product do its work in the 10 minutes it needs.
She said: “It’s definitely nice to have a moment of self-care — even when I’m busy, I always make time for my skincare routine, especially at night.
“I will work on sorting my drawers, SKIMS closet and maybe use the time to take video content [while I have the mask on].
“I love to mask when I’m travelling, on the plane or at the hotel as part of my prep when I feel like my skin is looking a bit dull, so that I have that fresh, ‘I just received a facial’ look before any big event.”

The TV host admitted that his watches always reflect his mood on a particular day.

Dolly Parton used to create her own makeup with ‘stuff that grew wild in the fields’

OHMYGOSSIP — Dolly Parton made her own make-up out of “stuff that grew wild in the field” when she was younger.
The 77-year-old singer didn’t have many cosmetics of her own growing up in Eastern Tennessee’s Great Smoky Mountains, so she resorted to using household items and foraging outside to come up with different ways to enhance her features.
Speaking to People magazine, she said: “I’d find ways to create my own make-up with pokeberries and stuff that grew wild in the fields. I think all people that grow up in the mountains learn how to improvise with what you don’t have.
“I would strike Mama’s old kitchen matches to make eyebrows and my beauty mark.”
And even now, the ‘Jolene’ singer likes to personalise her products.
She explained: “Still, I find myself mixing and matching different make-ups for different colours.”
Dolly’s beauty hacks continued while she was singing on radio and on television, but once her career took off in the ’60s, she has been able to buy “every great line of make-up that’s ever come out, but despite her vast wealth, the ‘9 to 5’ hitmaker favours cheaper brands.
She said: “Maybelline was always a biggie, especially with eye make-up. I didn’t have to burn the matches anymore.
“There’s so many of the products that don’t cost a fortune that are just as good as the most expensive things you buy. And believe me, I know, because I am about make-up.”
Fans can learn more about Parton’s fashion and style choices in her new book ‘Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones’, which will be released on 17 October.
When quizzed about the decision to release the book, the singer replied: “The older I get, the more I think, ‘Well, people really want to know about how you become who you are once you kind of reach a certain status.
“So, I thought, ‘Why don’t I do [a book] about my clothes, my fashion, my hair and all the looks that I’ve had — good, bad and indifferent?'”
