Zendaya’s raunchy ‘Challengers’ movie sparks ‘tenniscore’ boom

OHMYGOSSIP — Zendaya’s steamy ‘Challengers’ film has sparked a “tenniscore” fashion boom.
The 27-year-old actress is on the big screen playing tennis coach Tashi Duncan, who gets caught up in a love triangle with her tennis playing partner and ex, and has been promoting the movie by wearing a string of sports-themed outfits at its red carpet showings – including a pair of high heels that featured tennis balls impaled on their spikes and a party dress patterned with rackets.
Second-hand fashion resale app Depop has now reported searches for tennis skirts and polo shirts are up 52 per cent and 53 per cent respectively.
Stuart Brumfitt, editor of tennis style magazine Bagel, told The Guardian the sport’s summer circuit is key to its fashion boom, adding: “You watch the rugby or football through the winter, and it’s pouring with rain. Tennis is always in these amazing locations. There’s a bit of inherent glamour to it.”
Robert J Lake, author of ‘A Social History of Tennis in Britain’, also told the newspaper its association with wealth and celebrity also helps it become a fashion trend-setter off the court.
He added: “People tend to look to the rich and famous for new trends.”
Interest in tennis fashion is also set to be bolstered by Apple TV’s new series ‘Apples Never Fall’, based on a Liane Moriarty novel about a tennis family empire.
Fashion labels including Miu Miu and Celine have recently explored tennis style recently.
Tennis star Emma Raducanu is also a Dior ambassador, while Jannik Sinner, the highest ranked Italian player in history, works with Gucci.
Carlos Alcaraz, the 2023 Wimbledon men’s champion, features in adverts for Louis Vuitton.
Daniel-Yaw Miller, who writes for The Business of Fashion magazine, said: “There’s a critical mass of young players on the tour who are bolder and express their personal style on and off the court – Coco Gauff, Ben Shelton as well as Sinner.”

Jessica Chastain pays tribute to Ralph Lauren for teaching her how to ‘break fashion rules’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jessica Chastain says Ralph Lauren taught her how to “break the rules” of fashion.
The actress, 47, was among a string of A-listers who turned out for the 84-year-old fashion icon’s latest catwalk show at the end of April, and has now said she loves how he inspired her to pair apparently mismatching clothes in the same outfit.
She told reporters: “I get a bit of a fashion lesson from Ralph Lauren. There’s a beautiful dress that came down (the runway) with a white lace collar and it was paired with a western belt, and I loved it.
“I would have never thought of pairing that look together. He’s the only designer who could put on a tuxedo with a pair of cowboy boots.
“He really has so much fun with his fashion and that’s what I’ve come to expect. I’ve learnt that I’m allowed to break the rules.”
Ralph gave a nod to the Beyoncé-inspired cowboy trend for his latest catwalk show – a trend that has taken off since the release of the 42-year-old singer’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ country album in March.
Jessica was joined at the show by Glenn Close, Jodie Turner-Smith and Kerry Washington, while supermodel Christy Turlington, 55, walked the runway.
Amid clothes with a mainly neutral colour palette, Ralph threw in metallics and knitwear in his autumn/winter collection, which were also paired with cowboy boots and belts.
Models walked the runway in nude tailored coats over a shirt and tie in the same colour, cropped knit jumpers and cardigans paired with sparkly mesh maxi skirts, sequinned evening gowns, and matching trousers and suit jackets.
Accessories also included understated handbags, western belts, cowboy knee-high boots and hats.
The show, which was hosted in the designer’s private design studio for around 100 people, was understated compared to some of his most famous shows, which include taking over Central Park and holding a runway show around his classic car collection.

Zendaya fuelling Hollywood’s ‘method dressing’ phenomenon

OHMYGOSSIP — Zendaya has been hailed for fuelling Hollywood’s “method dressing” phenomenon.
The 27-year-old actress is on the big screen in ‘Challengers’ playing tennis coach Tashi Duncan, who gets caught up in a love triangle with her tennis playing partner and ex, and has been promoting the movie by wearing a string of sports-themed outfits at its red carpet showings – including a pair of high heels that featured tennis balls impaled on their spikes and a party dress patterned with rackets.
Fashion journalist Chloe Burney has now said “dressing in character mode on the red carpet isn’t just an homage to actors’ recently completed projects, but is also injecting heaps of fun”.
She added to the BBC she “wouldn’t typically gravitate” towards seeing ‘Challengers’, but Zendaya’s “tennis-themed looks have got us all talking”.
A string of other stars have been indulging in “method dressing” – meaning film roles are matched to real-life red carpet outfits.
Zendaya has told the BBC about joining the trend with her tennis-themed outfits: “Fashion is something I’ve always used as an outlet, a tool – ultimately, I think I am a more shy person so it allows for me to create this persona, this character that I get to live in for the day.
“We get so lucky to be part of films with such rich references anyway, so might as well pull from that.”
But the actress said she first started method dressing after starring in 2017’s ‘The Greatest Showman’ and was “inspired” by the film.
Zendaya has also created a string of film-themed looks with her stylist Law Roach for films including ‘Dune 2’ and ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’.
Law, who has worked with the star for years, has said about her ‘Dune 2’ red carpet looks, which referenced the sci-fi’s armour costumes, has told Vogue: “I always try to be a storyteller more than anything else, and this is such a strong story to tell.
“The looks served as an extension of the wardrobe from the movie. It was intentional and purposeful.”
Margot Robbie, 33, and Ryan Gosling, 43, earlier this year sported a string of pink outfits on red carpets to promote their film ‘Barbie’.

Vinted posts 61 per cent rise in sales!

OHMYGOSSIP — Online second-hand fashion retailer Vinted has reported a 61 per cent rise in sales.
It’s a boost that has taken the company out of the red for the first time, with its £513 million in takings coming amid the boom in demand for “pre-loved” clothing.
The Lithuania-based group said growth had partly been driven by entering new markets including Denmark and Finland.
Vinted’s chief executive Thomas Plantenga said it is now looking at a variety of different options for growth including moving into new countries and product categories.
He was quoted by the BBC saying: “We see many opportunities ahead, so we’ll continue to balance profitability against investment opportunities to accelerate towards our mission.
“Second-hand fashion is still a relatively immature market and only a tiny proportion of fashion overall.
“Our performance in 2023 was not only proof that we can deliver strong growth but that we are at the forefront of a market with huge potential.”
Vinted has also expanded into luxury fashion through its acquisition of second-hand high-end fashion site Rebelle.
Its sales boost makes it about a third of the size of Asos.
Its profit after tax was £15.2 million compared with a loss of about £17 million a year before.
The group employs more than 2,000 people, most of whom are based in Lithuania.
Its “pre-loved” category has gained mainstream popularity, with reality TV show ‘Love Island’ sponsored by eBay and featuring some of the contestants acting as influencers to promote second-hand style.
Mainstream retail chains including Primark are also selling second-hand items at their stores.

Elizabeth Hurley ‘ruined’ her feet with high-heeled shoes

OHMYGOSSIP — Elizabeth Hurley has “ruined” her feet with years of wearing high-heeled shoes.
The ‘Strictly Confidential’ actress tore ligaments in her left ankle in 2021 and the injury “changed [her] life” because it forced her to change her shoes, which impacted on the way she dressed and she much prefers being “comfortable” than looking glamorous these days.
She told Telegraph magazine: “I couldn’t wear shoes with a heel for a year.
“Even now, I shouldn’t be wearing heels… Interestingly, I found that when I couldn’t put a heel on, that affected the way I dress and wanted to dress, because I’ve ruined my feet, you know, by 30 years prancing around in heels, which is a stupid thing to do…
“I don’t wear heels in the daytime now and actually it is so much nicer, it’s so much more comfortable. I can walk for miles – it’s great!
“So in fact although my injury was a hideous one, I really think it changed my life – because I am much more mobile during the day, when I’m not towering in shoes. What a stupid thing to do for years!”
When she isn’t working now, the 58-year-old beauty favours “athleisure” garments with warm underlayers for the colder days.
She said: “I do wear a lot of athleisure and Ugg boots – I do! And I have these wonderful things from Uniqlo when it’s a bit nippy.
“I keep my HeatTech on the entire time and I love it. I tend to wear it and turn the heating down, because it’s bad to have dry heat around your face.”
It has been 30 years since Elizabeth famously upstaged then-boyfriend Hugh Grant at the premiere of his movie ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ when she walked the red carpet in a black Versace dress held together with gold safety pins and while she has “found memories” of that time, the ‘Austin Powers’ star is amazed people are still interested in the gown.
She said: “I have nothing but fond memories of 1994. It was an amazing time for me personally, and you’re right, it was an amazing time for fashion. And I think for the UK in general. It is a little odd to me that people are still interested in that particular dress and they frequently tell me when it’s having a birthday… But why not? It was a wonderful dress.”

Anya Hindmarch has weekends off from being ‘fashionable’

OHMYGOSSIP — Anya Hindmarch is “actively not fashionable” at the weekend.
The 56-year-old designer – who has five adult children with husband James Seymour – values her downtime after a busy working week and likes not feeling any pressure to dress up or be glamorous, even when she’s out meeting friends.
Discussing a typical Saturday, she told Telegraph magazine of her evening: “We meet friends for supper at Upstairs at Landrace in Bath – it’s excellent – or more locally, at The Salutation Inn just off the Fosse Way. It’s very low-key, full of farmers and locals. I don’t need Notting Hill at the weekends.
“Likewise, I’m actively not fashionable on a Saturday, in a cosy jumper and jeans with Birkenstocks, and scrubby exercise clothes during the day.”
Anya values a good night’s sleep and keeps a track of her nocturnal habits.
She said: “I wake [at 8am] at our cottage in Wiltshire. I like to get up slowly. Sleep is everything to me – James always teases me and says I’m oversleeping. But sleep keeps me calm. I track it with my Oura ring – James eye-rolls whenever I mention it.”
The designer then enjoys a slow morning, savouring an hour in bed with a cup of tea.
She said of the period between 9 and 10am: “This is my thinking time. I’ll have cup of tea in bed and open my laptop. I’m quite ‘on’ during the week in terms of meetings and events.
“My work involves days of fun projects and creative concepts – like the giant red Chubby Hearts [which have appeared in London and Hong Kong to mark Valentine’s Day] and The Village [a collection of Hindmarch’s stores on London’s Pont Street] – and that’s really exciting, but there is a serious business side too. I love it, but I really need that ‘off’ time as well, to process, recover and plan.”

She told Extra: “This is actually the biggest launch we’ve had in the brand since the brand launched in 2017. This is major for us. It’s a new era in foundation for the brand.
“This time, instead of the matte finish, this is more of a soft, luminescent finish, like a nice, glowy, natural-skin look.”
She added of the product’s inspiration: “Barbados has one of the best golden hours in the world, if I might say so myself. It’s basically just putting all of that into a bottle.
“Barbados is always an inspiration for me for so many of my products, not just in beauty but in skincare as well. We were able to capture that, even in this product there are so many great, skin-loving ingredients in this bottle of foundation.
“It’s nourishing to the skin as well as beautiful performance that your skin gets just by having that glow.”
Soft’lit Foundation retails for £34 and comes in 50 shades. It’s both watreproof, lightweight and buildable.
It’s described as : “A longwear, medium coverage foundation that gives golden hour glow all day long and stays fresh. It hydrates, brightens and improves skin tone both instantly and over time, while resisting sweat, humidity and transfer.
“This lightweight, waterpoof formula instantly reduces the appearance of shine and gives a whole new kind of radiance. This is just-right, notch-above-natural luminosity in a bottle.”

Cheryl reveals the best beauty tip she has learned over the years as she looks back at early days

OHMYGOSSIP — Cheryl thinks that “less can be more” when it comes to beauty.
The 40-year-old pop star shot to fame as part of Girls Aloud alongside Nicola Roberts, Nadine Coyle, Kimberley Walsh and the late Sarah Harding – who died in 2021 at the age of 39 following a battle with breast cancer – in 2002 and ahead of their reunion tour admitted that she often looks back to see herself “caked” in makeup when she didn’t need to be.
She told Glamour UK: “I think the best thing you learn over the years is that less can be more. There’s often times where I look back at things and I can see myself caked when I really did not need to be caked.
“And definitely, I think for younger girls – when we were younger, and now really – just less is more.
“Build, rather than slap loads on at once.”
The ‘Promise This’ hitmaker was then asked in the interview with her bandmates what makes her feel at “her best” looks wise and revealed it is always when her hair is in good shape and usually goes for whatever will give her the “biggest” do.
She said: “Good hair. Honestly, I think you can get away with little or no makeup if you’ve got a nice hairdo. If my hair’s all over the place, you can forget it. It puts me in a bad mood. Nicola decided to tell me earlier that I’ve got the wildest hair of all of us.”
“Yeah, so good hair – a good blowout and I’m happy. I really enjoy the Color Wow Dreamcoat and the Shark FlexStyle – there’s a tool for everything. I like the volume, whatever gives me the highest hair. The biggest hair.”

Brigerton star Luke Newton reveals biggest fashion regret

OHMYGOSSIP — Luke Newton regrets wearing “super skinny” jeans.
The 31-year-old actor – who is best known for starring as Colin Bridgerton in the hit Netflix series ‘Bridgerton’ – was asked about the clothes he used to wear and explained that while he was hesitant to admit it in case they come back into style, he regrets wearing extra-tight trousers in his teenage years.
He told InStyle: “You know what? I want to be careful because it’s something that I think is going to come back into fashion: super skinny jeans. And I’m talking cut-off-circulation skinny. I used to rock them, at the time, I thought they were my staple and go-to. Maybe this summer I’ll bring them back.”
The former Disney Channel star was asked about his morning routine and explained that he throws comfortable clothes on every day as soon as he wakes up, goes to his local coffee shop to collect his usual and then immediately returns home where he gets back into bed to watch morning television.
He said: “When I’m at home, I wake up, immediately throw clothes on, and go to my local coffee shop. They know what I want immediately and then back in bed and watch telly during my coffee. It’s a ritual that I have every morning. I like to get up and out straight away. Little bit of sunlight, like five minutes, if it’s sunny out, and have the coffee.”
Before finding fame on screen, Luke’s first job was the understudy for the role of Elder Price in the West End production of ‘The Book of Mormon’ and admitted that while most actors have a recurring nightmare that they are naked on stage, he often dreams that he is back in the show without a clue what to do.
He said: “I think a lot of actors have this dream as well.
“It’s the first theatre job that I did when I came out of college. I was a swing, so I covered multiple roles. I’m on stage, the show is going on, and everyone else knows what they’re doing around me.
“And I just have no memory of what I’m supposed to do.
“I think a lot of people have a dream of being on stage and they’re naked. I’ve never had that.
“That’s meant to have some sort of meaning behind it, but I just don’t know what I’m doing [when I’m on stage in the dream]. I don’t know what it means, but it’s terrifying and it’s reoccurring. That’s a ten-year-old dream that still comes up in my life.”

The 27-year-old supermodel has struggled with health issues in recent years – including autoimmune condition lupus – and she found wearing scents which contain alcohol made her skin issues worse so she started experimenting with essential oils and it led her to create Orebella – three perfumes which moisturise the skin and deliver a long-lasting scent.
She told Allure magazine: “I get hives and rashes from stress alone, so I tend to stay away from anything that will trigger my body nowadays.”
Bella added of creating her first oil-based scents : “I was trying to make them as unique as possible so that when I put them on my body, it felt singular to me …
“I didn’t want to just put something on the market that was another product or another perfume. It was something I was already extremely passionate about, and I didn’t want to keep it for myself anymore.”
The collection consists of three scents – Window2soul with jasmine, rose and tonka bean, Blooming Fire with notes of monoi, bergamot and patchouli and Salted Muse which is packed with sea salt, olive tree and cedarwood.

Kendall Jenner shares secrets to ‘spring French girl look’

OHMYGOSSIP — Kendall Jenner has shared the secrets of her beauty regime revealing her go-to products to create the “spring French girl make-up look”.
The 28-year-old model has opened up about her skincare and make-up rituals in a new ‘Beauty Secrets’ video for Vogue.com revealing she starts her day with ginger tea and gold under-eye patches before starting gua sha – a traditional Chinese healing method of using a smooth-edged tool to stroke your skin.
Kendall explained: “I usually start with a little gua sha using a 100 per cent virgin coconut oil and I love it ‘cos it’s thick and the gua sha just slides.

She uses Shea Moisture 100 Per Cent Virgin Coconut Oil Daily Hydration Face Lotion and a spritz of Heritage Store Rosewater for her gua sha ritual and then washes it off with Jan Marini Bioglycolic Face Cleanser.
Kendall added: “I am super, super anal about washing my face because I am acne-prone. I had acne my whole childhood. Some of my adult life. So I am super on top of my routine … I feel like I’m in a good place right now. I get hormonal acne, sometimes I’ll get little breakouts when I’m around my period.”
The catwalk star added that she swears by Kylie Cosmetics Lip Butter but insisted it’s not because it’s from her sister Kylie’s line, adding: “I swear it’s not because it’s my sister. So good for you, girl. It is so silky and smooth.”
Kendall finishes her skin care with La Mer moisturising cream, EltaMD SPF and a spritz of Caudalie Beauty Elixir Face Mist.

Selena Gomez feels ‘sad’ over today’s beauty standards

OHMYGOSSIP — Selena Gomez feels “sad” over the beauty standards of her generation.
The 31-year-old actress believes that there are “very unrealistic” ideals within the world of beauty as she called out the use of airbrushing and filter techniques.
Speaking at the TIME100 Summit, she said: “Personally, I felt that there’s a very unrealistic standard when it comes to the cosmetic world and it makes me a little sad for my generation. And for anyone to look at something that’s probably touched up and made to look nice is… I just wanted to break that down.”
The ‘Only Murders in the Building’ star is the founder of Rare Beauty but admitted that she has no clue how to do makeup and simply hopes that others “feel good” when they are using her company’s products.
She said: “I don’t know how to do makeup and I have a makeup line. I wanted it to feel good when they’re using my products. And all of our products are named based on uplifting things, from our Find Comfort line to anything that comes to mind, body and soul, we try to be very conscious of even naming the products to be reminders of joy or just finding yourself. ”
Selena – who shot to fame in her teens on Disney Channel – admitted that her only goal was to make makeup that was “fun” for her fans because she had “spent years” aspiring to look a certain type of way in what she said was all just a “waste of time” in the end.
“So I genuinely just wanted to make makeup that was fun for people. I don’t believe in having to look a certain way. I spent years trying to do that and it’s draining. Waste of time.”

TikTok star Morgan Riddle reveals why she is ‘supportive’ of Botox

OHMYGOSSIP — Morgan Riddle is “supportive” of Botox.
The 26-year-old influencer explained that because she tends to “break out” a lot on her forehead, she turns to the age-defying procedure to slow down the production of sebum and is all for anything that boosts self-esteem.
She told Popsugar: “I tend to break out a lot on my forehead, but it also slows down the sebum production. I haven’t gotten filler in a long time, but I loved it. “I’m supportive of doing any of that stuff that makes you feel better, and it definitely made me look better.”
The Instagram star – who became known for posting about life on tour as the girlfriend of tennis player Taylor Fritz – is also keen to promote the health of her hair and admitted that while she doesn’t wash it very often, she does have a series of tools that help her achieve the look and feel she wants to with her locks.I have the Airwrap, the Airstrait, and the Coralle; I have everything. I’m a big fan and that’s helped with my hair health a lot, too.
She said: “I bleach my hair heavily, so it dries out so much that I actually don’t have to wash it as much and it doesn’t get greasy as easily.
“I’m a fidgeter and I’ll play with my hair. It can come off distracting and maybe insecure, so I usually wear my hair up so I’m not messing with it.”
But one of her “weird things” when it comes to her hair is refusing to let it touch the seat of the aeroplane when she is travelling.
She said: “It’s one of my weird things — I have to wear a sweatshirt with a hood and I never let my hair touch the aeroplane seat.
“Then I don’t feel as gross from it touching what’s obviously touched a lot of strangers’ heads.”
