Sofia Coppola’s 1990s make-up look

OHMYGOSSIP — Sofia Coppola has been wearing the same make-up look since the 1990s.
The moviemaker has opened up about her cosmetics routine after teaming up with skincare giant Augustinus Bader to launch a new tinted lip balm, and she’s revealed she never wears much on her face apart from a little concealer and some eyeliner in the evenings.
She told The Sunday Times newspaper: “I use a little concealer – I have Italian dark circles, you see – and lip balm always. At night, maybe a little eyeliner.
“I’ve been doing the same thing since the ’90s. I don’t wear a ton of make-up but I love products. I love the packaging. I love things that smell beautiful and I love taking that whole moment.”
Sofia went on to add she isn’t into the “wellness” movement, but she does enjoy hot yoga and facials. She added: “[I do] a lot of hot yoga on weekends, and when I’m not working I get massages and have facials with Joanna Vargas – I love all her machines, the radiofrequency and stuff.”
The ‘Priscilla’ director went on to add she gets a lot of make-up and skincare tips from her teenage daughters Romy, 17, and Cosima, 13, who scour TikTok for ideas.
She said: “They’re way more educated, they know way more than me. They see it on TikTok.”
Sofia’s collaboration with Augustinus Bader launched earlier this month with the tinted lip balms packed with shea butter, vitamin E, and candelilla wax and coming in three colours.
The director previously revealed her inspiration for the three colours, telling Byrdie.com: “The dark pink is from a favourite discontinued lipstick I used to get at a drugstore in Paris, and the red coral is based on a colour I like when at the beach or in summer.
“The darker plum is for a deep colour that looks like deeper tint of your lips.”

Brooke Shields launching haircare line for over-40s

OHMYGOSSIP — Brooke Shields is launching a haircare line for the over-40s.
The 58-year-old actress/model has created a collection of products called Commence which have been specially formulated for women aged 40-plus and came about from conversations she had on her Beginning Is Now online community – and Brooke insists she’s taking a hands-on approach to the brand.
She told WWD: “We have to establish ourselves as experts. Just because I’m Brooke Shields and I have hair doesn’t make me an expert. The efficacy of the products is what I’m painstakingly focused on. I can sell anything once, but I want the repeat business and to do that, we have to establish ourselves as experts in hair and beauty care.”
Brooke added: “Every time you get a rejection as an actress it feels so personal, because you think, ‘If only I’d done it better, I could convince them’. But with Commence, I was able to be in these rooms and not feel personally affronted. It’s just business.”
She previously explained her plan at the SHE Media Co-Lab Whole Life Health SXSW panel in March, saying: “It’s coming this summer, but it was really about tapping into the community and finding what their needs are.
“What happens after 40? Thinning hair, scalp health, loss of collagen, all these things that happen to our bodies. And addressing that and then going to the experts and saying, what proprietary formulas can we find?”
Commence launches in June and aims to expand to eight hair care products by the end of the year with a view to potentially add more items including fragrance in the future.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex doing her own hair and make-up in Nigeria

OHMYGOSSIP — Meghan, Duchess of Sussex has been doing her own hair and make-up during her trip to Nigeria.
The 42-year-old former actress has been touring the African nation with her husband Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex and her make-up artist Daniel Martin has now revealed she headed off on the visit without a glam squad in tow because she’s “so good” at creating her own looks.
Daniel told Us Weekly: “I feel like when I’m not with her, she has more room to play. I think that’s the fun thing when you see her, like, she’s in Nigeria right now.
“It’s just her. There’s no stylist, there’s no hairdresser. She’s doing everything herself and she’s so good at it.”
Daniel – who did Meghan’s make-up for her 2018 royal wedding – went on to add: “I mean, she loves some blush. She loves the cheek. She loves a big brow …
“She’s so good at doing her own face. She’s her own person. It’s so nice.”
Daniel previously revealed Meghan wanted to look “radiant, glowy, and polished” when she married Prince Harry at Windsor Castle six years ago and explained he used minimal make-up for her big day.
He told Brides magazine: “Waterproof mascara, lash accents on her outer corners, and filled-in brows [and a lip balm for] a healthy moisturised lip.”
Daniel also revealed he ended up re-doing Meghan’s make-up for the reception because she caught the sun during the procession after the ceremony.
He told British Vogue magazine: “What’s funny is that even throughout the procession she wound up getting a bit of colour. Even after just an hour in the carriage she came back and I was like, ‘Oh my god you got some sun!’
“So I gave her more of a sunkissed look with a bit more drama in the eye. We pumped it up a bit. We wanted it to be simple, chic and not fussy because she was going to be eating and drinking that night. The last thing you want to worry about is putting on your lip gloss.”

The ‘Bridgerton’ star proudly wore a lilac lace gown by Victoria Beckham to the biggest fashion event of the year at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday (06.05.24), which had a dress code of ‘Garden of Time’ and theme of ‘Sleeping Beauties’.
Sharing the intricate details, Spice Girl-turned-designer Victoria, 50, shared on Instagram: “In a nod to this year’s ‘Sleeping Beauties’ theme, the ethereal silhouette was hand-crafted from archival lace, and embellished with over 300 lace appliqué flowers, hand-cut and hand-sewn onto a tulle base.”
Victoria expanded in an interview with Vogue: “We decided to use vintage lace from our archives, as there was something quite romantic about reviving it and bringing it back to life — much like a sleeping beauty.

Lily James’ $3k Met Gala facial with energy cleansing and mantra

OHMYGOSSIP — Lily James had a $3,000 facial to prep her skin for the Met Gala.
The 35-year-old actress – who looked angelic in a blooming black and white Erdem gown – was glowing as she rocked minimal makeup at the fundraising gala at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday (06.05.24).
And celebrity facialist Ivan Pol, founder of The Beauty Sandwich, has revealed the secret to her radiant skin.
He told Forbes: “The main trend I’m seeing this Met Gala season is having the makeup become more natural-looking, and having the skin feel light, bright, and snatched.
“Having that natural glow from within starts with the right skincare.”
The popular facial among celebrities also helps to snatch and lift the jawline.
He also cleanses toxic energy from the atmosphere with a $55 Smokeless Smudge spray and a mantra.
Explaining the process, he said: “I begin working with clients 72 hours before [an event] for [my signature] Beauty Sandwich treatment.”
Pol continued: “Then I start every beauty sandwich with a mantra—’love, beauty, energy’—to really get good energy into the session. I also ground my clients by listening to Schumann Resonance.”
On working with the ‘Yesterday’ star again, he added: “This was the second Met Gala that Lily James and I were working together. We’ve built such a great relationship.
“This time she wanted an extremely natural makeup look. That filter-skin look, and to look “snatural!””
One of the products he uses is the $175 Amuse Bouche face mist with hyaluronic acid, peony, sweet pea, and rose.
He said: “It’s like the skin is drinking a glass of water every hour, or what I like to call it, getting IV fluid for your face. It is actually one of Lily’s favorite products!”
Others include the SS01 Secret Sauce, costing a whopping $295, which helps “with flow in the skin, but also calms the mind and spirit.”
Pol also uses radiofrequency and red-light therapy for skin tightening, circulation, inflammation, and collagen production.
He added: “The combination really allows for that snatched look and improves the skin’s overall health and appearance.”

Cardi B had an alternate green dress for the Met Gala

OHMYGOSSIP — Cardi B had a green version of her show-stopping Met Gala gown as backup.
The ‘WAP’ hitmaker has shown off the alternate colour of her epic black Windowsen gown with a never-ending tulle train that took she rocked to the fundraising ball at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday (06.05.24).
Showing off the other dress, she wrote on X: “Green or Black?”
Quizzed by one follower on why she didn’t opt for the green, she replied: “It wasn’t photographing well …It translated different on all lighting and angles on camera.”
In a behind-the-scenes clip, she admitted: “It’s tight right there. It gotta be cut.
“I wanna get it over with. Every time — I feel like every year we do this, it’s just like.”
And it seems the anxiety of the Met got all too much as Cardi – who has attended five times – claimed she won’t be returning in 2025.
She admitted: “Next year I’m not doing it.”
Her stylist, Kollin Carter, dubbed her look “The Black rebellious Rose” in line with the ‘Garden of Time’ dress code.
Meanwhile, Cardi recently admitted finding clothes that fit her curves is “not easy”.
The 31-year-old rapper spoke about her battle to find suitable outfits in a chat with Kollin to mark him being named in The Hollywood Reporter’s annual list of the entertainment industry’s most influential stylists.
She told the publication: “There are so many obstacles against us. For example, this body is not meant for a size two. I’m very hips, (bum), and that’s me”.
Cardi – born Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar – added dressing her curvy figure “was not easy” but said she and Kollin “make it look easy”.
She added: “Our door was closed many times… but we’re here because we do it well.
“I’m not going to be humble about it.”
Kollin said their hard work has paved the way for other women in the industry with curves and caused a “cultural shift”.
He added: “I don’t think there were many women like Cardi who existed in the fashion space.
“Now there are a ton of other rap females who aspire to be in that space because they see what’s possible. We set trends.”
Kollin also discussed Cardi B’s famous 2019 Met Gala gown designed by Thom Browne, which made headlines due to its ostentatious train – and landed the star on every best-dressed list the night of the event.
He added: “That look broke Cardi B into the next level of the fashion world. “People who didn’t take us seriously were like, ‘OK, they’re here to stay.’”

Jodie Turner-Smith’s bridal Met Gala gown inspired by her divorce

OHMYGOSSIP — Jodie Turner-Smith has revealed her “bridal” Met Gala outfit was inspired by her divorce.
The 37-year-old actress – who filed for divorce from her ex-husband Joshua Jackson in October, bringing an end to their four year marriage – appeared at the glitzy star studded event on Monday (06.05.24) in a plunging sleeveless white custom Burberry gown with 150,000 faux pearls and a sheer floral overlay.
She wrote on Instagram: “This met gala was a very special one for me… my first stepping out on my own.
“I had many thoughts after reading the short story that the theme [Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion] was based on… but what I took away from it was a desire to represent both the power of nature and the delicacy of it.
“In nature, death is both an ending *and* a beginning. When you prune away that which is dead, new buds are free to grow.
“Fitting, then, that the dress #DanielLee designed for me, full of English flowers, was deliberately bridal.
“White, representing a rebirth. A clean start. A recommitment to the most important relationship I will ever have, the relationship from which all others grow: my relationship with myself.”
Jodie – who has four-year-old daughter Juno with her ex – explained how she wants to pass on some important lessons to her child.
She continued: “It is through loving and honouring myself that i am able to love and honour my daughter, and teach her to do the same.
“I am ever changing, ever growing, always beginning… and FREE, to love better, stronger, more fiercely and fearlessly than I ever have.
“THANK YOU ENDLESSLY, @burberry, for your support and your creativity and your love. Can’t wait to see what’s next…!!!!!”
The ‘Queen and Slim’ star admitted the Met Gala can be an intimidating environment, but she has her own way to battle the nerves.
She told Vogue magazine: “There are a lot of nerves before the Met Gala, it feels like a performance. “Before I go on the red carpet, I always have a glass of Clase Azul Reposado. I’m such a health-focused person, but I love tequila.”

The ‘Kardashians’ star – who has Stormi, six, and Aire, two, with former partner Travis Scott – has grown in confidence since having her children and she loves to let her “skin show” now because she sees so many similarities in herself and her little girl.
She told ES Magazine: “Motherhood has definitely made me love myself more — because my daughter looks like me, I get to see my beauty in her.
“For make-up, I’ve been going for a more natural look — I love letting my skin show.”

She said: “Growing up, I always looked up to my mom and grandmother; they always look so pulled together. Especially with fragrance, I always remember my mom used to wear beautiful floral fragrances, which definitely inspired Cosmic in a lot of ways…
“The name came naturally — when I finally landed on that perfect scent, it smelled out of this world, and so Cosmic was the perfect name.”
The fragrance is packaged in pink sculptural bottle and she couldn’t be happier with it.
She said: “For Cosmic, I wanted to create a bottle that went with the name.”

Ncuti Gatwa”s sensual sense of style

OHMYGOSSIP — Ncuti Gatwa loves “sexy, sensual” clothes.
The 31-year-old actor looks for pieces that suggest both “strength and vulnerability” when he’s walking the red carpet and likes to reflect his own emotions with his wardrobe.
He told Hollywood Reporter Style: “How do I say this in a PG way
“I’m someone that very much wears my heart on my sleeve. My emotions are very clear for everyone to see, so I like pieces that have a mixture of strength and vulnerability.
“I always like something a little sexy, sensual.”
And the ‘Barbie’ actor, who works with stylist Felicity Kay, likes to incorporate his characters into his wardrobe.
He said: “How can I tie in the character or the show with me in a ‘fashion’ way?”
For the Hollywood premiere of the new season of ‘Doctor Who’ this week, Ncuti looked to a navy double-breasted pinstripe suit which he wears as the Timelord and “absolutely fell in love” with the outfit he wore, a power-shouldered black suit, accented with a silver belt, from Achilles Ion Gabriel’s debut collection.
He said: “It just had this really cool, punky, rocker element, which I love because the show feels quite punk, as well as nerdy.
“I just thought it was so different from anything I’ve done before. It was more … clothed…
“It’s a twist on traditionalism, which is like everything that we’re doing with this show.
“There’s a twist to this traditional, institutional show that’s stepping into the modern era. So the suit is a bit of an ode to that.”
And the ‘Barbie’ star likes to champion emerging designers during “big moments” for his own career.
He said: “It speaks to my journey as an actor, as well. It’s worthwhile to support emerging artists because they are the ones that are pushing the narrative, and then pushing us forward.”

Marc Jacobs worries about famous models overshadowing collections

OHMYGOSSIP — Marc Jacobs thinks it is “problematic” when the fame of models overshadows the designs they are showcasing.
The 61-year-old designer thinks there are “two ways” for people in his position to work amid the current trend for models-as-stars, to either step apart from them or “embrace” the iconic faces.
In a profile of Kendall Jenner for Vogue magazine, he said: ““When you put Kendall or Kaia or Gigi or Bella in a show, you can expect that most of what you will read online the following day is about those four people being in the show.
“You will know very little about the collection. I think that’s problematic. But this idea of a personality as a great model is just where we’re at.
“What might have been the story in the 1970s, with a Lauren Hutton, who started off as a model and became super well-known as a model—now things are different.
“I think Kendall’s beautiful. She wears clothes with confidence. I think she’s also super nice and charming. She photographs well. She has all the things, but then also this thing that makes her very of this moment, this reality-celebrity thing.
“There are two ways you can deal with that. You can say, I don’t want anything to do with this, or say, This is real and I can embrace it. I think that’s the way you go with Kendall.”
Kendall credits her big break in fashion to walking in Marc’s fall 2014 show, and the designer admitted he cast her on the suggestion of his collaborator Katie Grand because he enjoyed the “irony” of taking someone from a globally-famous reality TV show and putting them into an anonymous “army” of models.
He said: “Katie knew me well enough to know that I wasn’t excited by the Kardashian fame.
“I just wasn’t, to be very honest. I was aware of who they were. There was no judgment.
“But I have a job to do, a fashion show, and that means finding models who can show the clothes the way I think they should be shown. That show was very much about the uniformity of the cast.
“Some are more about individuality and maybe exaggerating different models’ features and personalities.
“But in this one there was this almost narcotic-like pull to the thing. It was this army of the same person. Kendall couldn’t be Kendall Jenner at all. It was really about anonymity—which is kind of ironic, and that irony appeals to me.”

Michelle Yeoh changes ‘whole look’ with new hairstyle at Met Gala

OHMYGOSSIP — Michelle Yeoh has revealed a “very different” shorter hairstyle for the Met Gala.
The 61-year-old actress showed off her short new bob at the glitzy fashion event on Monday (06.05.24), and she admitted it was a “process” to bring her entire look together for the annual extravaganza.
She to People magazine: “This is my new look. Working with Demna [creative director of Balenciaga], it’s the whole [look].
“It’s not just a dress. It’s the jewelry, it’s the hair, it’s the makeup. So we all went through the process.”
The ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ star also explained her gown, and how it fits in with this year’s theme of ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’.
She explained: “Well this dress is inspiration from Demna.
“Actually, he said it was something he did when he was a young child, playing with tin foil and making dresses on his sister’s toys.
“And today it seemed like it came full circle. I have reawakened his childhood memories.”
Meanwhile, Michelle confessed the gown isn’t actually made of foil, even though it “feels” and looks like it should be.
She added: “No it’s not, but the fabric feels like it is. You can mold it. You press it and it feels like it’s frozen in time.”
At last year’s event, she stepped out in a tuxedo-style gown from Karl Lagerfeld Couture.
Reflecting on her style choices, she previously told People: “At the end of the day, I know who I am.
“You can’t let the dress wear you and you can’t be walking around going, ‘I’m so uncomfortable. I can’t breathe.’
“And you are expected to sit there for three hours and you’re like, ‘I’m going to die. And I can’t go to the bathroom.'”

Venus Williams suffers wardrobe mishap at Met Gala

OHMYGOSSIP — Venus Williams had a wardrobe mishap with her broken mirror dress at the Met Gala.
The tennis icon stepped out at the star studded event on Monday (06.05.24) in a stunning Marc Jacobs gown covered in little mirrors, which was inspired by this year’s ‘Garden of Time’ dress code for the Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion theme.
Speaking to ‘Live From E!’, she said: “It’s based off the theme of today, we’re showing all these dresses that are too fragile to wear.
“So he wanted to bring in the fragility of mirrors — I only broke one.”
Unfortunately for Venus, the mirror cracked when she was zipping up the outfit.
She added: “But it was too late ’cause I was already running behind!”
Despite the apparent bad omen around broken mirrors, Venus pushed on and stepped out at the event in a pair of seven inch heels.
She quipped: “Each one I break, it’s seven years’ bad luck.”
She is no stranger to the Met Gala, having first appeared at the event 20 years ago.
Venus recalled: “I think I was the first athlete to come. And then I took a long break and then I came back again like five years ago.”
The 43-year-old sports legend previously admitted she loves to “combine” her passions for tennis and fashion.
She told ELLE magazine: “I’ve always loved incorporating fashion into tennis. It’s so fun for me to be able to combine two of the things I’m most passionate about.
“Fashion and sports are so intertwined, and I’ve always used my on-court looks as an opportunity for self-expression.
“At the US Open this year, I wanted to use the walk-in look as an additional moment to showcase my individual style and personality even further.
“Over the years, I’ve continued to develop and evolve my personal style and only wear what makes me feel my best. Fashion is a personal representation of yourself, so I like to have as much fun with it as I possibly can.”

Nicole Kidman reveals ‘big regret’ that inspired 2024 Met Gala outfit

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicole Kidman’s Met Gala look was inspired by a “big regret” in her life.
The 56-year-old star stepped out in a Balenciaga gown at the star studded fashion event – which had the theme ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’ – on Monday (06.05.24), and she first saw the gown in a photo taken by the late Richard Avedon.
She told E! News: “I just loved the idea that – I never got to work with Avedon, I wanted to work with him.
“He was sick and he passed, and it’s a big regret. So, I get to wear a dress that was inspired – I saw it in a photo that he took, and went, ‘I hope I can bring that back to life.’
“It’s a celebration of a photographer as well, and a dress.”
She loved this year’s theme for the annual gathering, explaining how it meant a lot to “bring these gowns back to life”.
She added: “Just the idea of past, present and future being brought together, and these gorgeous couture gowns.”
Nicole pointed to the amount of effort put into the outfits add another layer to the occasion.
She explained: “You forget, the people that make these gowns, they put so much time – look, it’s exquisite
“The artist that made it. I watched them make it, I see the love they put into it. We wear their art for them.”
In 2022, Nicole caused a stir when she graced the cover of Vanity Fair’s annual Hollywood issue in a daring ensemble featuring a super-short Miu Miu mini skirt and matching crop top with her outfit dividing fans and attracting criticism online.
Reflecting on her controversial look, she later insisted she likes to take risks when it comes to fashion and doesn’t think about the consequences.
She told Australia’s Stellar magazine: “I make the most random, crazy choices. I call them ‘teenage choices’ because I just don’t ever think of consequences,
“Part of my brain just doesn’t think like that. I just go, ‘Oh, I’m going to wear that; it reminds me of my school uniform.’ Or, ‘Oh my God, yeah, I’d love to do that.’ I try to (stay) in that place because I think otherwise you get scared or worried.”

Iconic fashion brand Rita Britton making comeback!

OHMYGOSSIP — Iconic fashion brand Rita Britton is making a comeback.
Its founder Rita, 80, is reviving it a decade after it closed – and following a retirement she says “drove her mad” and made her want to get back to work.
She told the BBC: “I realised you don’t turn off creativity.
“You might decide to retire, but I looked at the people I admire who are older than me like David Hockney and Alan Bennett. Karl Lagerfeld worked into his ’90s.
“Creativity does not suddenly end, it’s there.”
Rita Britton has its roots in the Yorkshire coalfields in the 1960s.
Its founder opened her high-couture Pollyanna boutique in Barnsley in 1967, but it shut when Rita retired in 2014 after a stroke and brain haemorrhage.
She added she hadn’t realised how famous Pollyanna was and initially steered away from the brand as she felt it was a “name of its time”.
Rita said: “When you work in the middle, you don’t see it, you’re in it, you enjoy it.
“People all over the world have told me Pollyanna was so iconic.
“You gather so much knowledge about the industry you’re working in and you think, I can’t shelve that.”
Rita added she would choose to live in Barnsley over any other town or city in the world and loves teaching young people about fashion.
She said: “You wouldn’t believe the quality of the textile designers we deal with, absolutely incredible. It’s a fabulous industry to be in.
“We’re not in fashion, we’re into style – because style is lasting, fashion is fleeting.
“I’ve come back with a new passion.”
Pollyanna is now producing a handbag with New York, Milan, Paris, London ‘AND Barnsley’ printed on it.
