Doutzen Kroes: ‘I’m not just a pretty face’

OHMYGOSSIP — Doutzen Kroes believes people have underestimated her as “just a pretty face”.
The 34-year-old model is a passionate activist on the issue of climate change but she believes that many people have not listened to her ideas in the past because of her beauty.
She told Glamour UK: “People like to think of you as just being a pretty face. I feel like I had to learn. When I look at interviews from 10-15 years ago, I still have the same values, but I can express them better. But I think that’s growing up. I really know myself now, I don’t just throw out my opinion. Also, if someone has a different opinion, I don’t just go against it, I think I can learn from it.
“You can’t judge someone who lives in a closed off community for having a certain opinion as they might not have had the same ability to explore, travel and broaden their horizons like you have. If we would all listen that bit more, it would be much better. There is an urgency to save the planet and save ourselves so listening is being overlooked. We are the plague and we will destroy ourselves, if we don’t listen.”
Doutzen – who has children Myllena Mae Gorré and Phyllon Joy Gorré with husband Sunnery James Gorré – also revealed that becoming a mother has made her even more passionate about the cause.
She explained: “I want to leave a beautiful planet for them. There will be a planet but is that the planet we want to leave for them? It’s definitely in the back of my mind. I have two children and for now, that’s it because I don’t know what we are leaving behind.”

Rihanna’s beauty secrets

OHMYGOSSIP — Rihanna’s make-up artist, Priscilla Ono, has shared the star’s beauty secrets.
As the global makeup artist of Rihanna’s beauty empire Fenty, Priscilla often travels with Rihanna and has given some insight on how she keeps the 31-year-old singer camera-ready after a long flight.
Priscilla told Conde Nast Traveler: “Sometimes when traveling with Rihanna, we land and have to go straight to a media event, and my job is to make sure everyone looks good. I love using the new Hydrating Longwear Foundation by Fenty Beauty: I know that it’s going to have longevity and be very durable, but it also has moisturising properties that are great for dried-out skin after a flight.”
Priscilla also praised the versatility of Fenty’s Match Stix make-up sticks, which she always has in her make-up bag.
She said: “I also love Fenty’s Match Stix magnetized makeup sticks because they’re multipurpose, and I like to bring things with me that are multi-use so I don’t have to overpack. The matte version has the more creamy shades that I can use for contouring and highlighting, as well as a concealer, but the shimmer shades are great for blush, eyeshadow, or as a lip colour. I can pretty much use them for anything. I also love to pack Fenty’s Full-Bodied Foundation Brush, which I’ll use as a blush brush for applying foundation and highlighter–you can used different sides of the brush for different areas.”

Slick Woods explains C1v1l collaboration

OHMYGOSSIP — Slick Woods joined C1v1l Jewelry for empowerment and “financial representation”.
The 23-year-old star has teamed with Blakely Thorton’s direct-to-customer brand – which reinvents 20% in underrepresented founders while using eco-friendly diamonds – and she has opened up about her decision behind becoming the face of the company.
She told Refinery29: “Seeing someone that looks like you is important, seeing that representation makes you believe things are possible.
“Seeing that financial representation is even more important.”
Meanwhile, Thorton – who has been working in marketing and strategy for more than eight years – explained how he realising black, gay and femme culture was being ignored, even if the public thought there was equality in campaigns.
He said: “Now you see a lot of the surface-level [inclusivity] in front of the camera, but the person actually making the money is the white business dude from Cornell.”
Thorton decided to work with Woods after meeting her through his clients Coco and Breezy, and he thought the model was ideal for the campaign.
He added: “I worked with them on a campaign because I’m always like, I want Black influencers, I want women influencers…
“We were looking for a face and we were like, who embodies authenticity?
“Slick’s the celebrity’s celebrity… Now we’re one big jewellery hawking family, hoping to be Black, queer Tiffany.”

Sofia Richie struggled to find the right mascara

OHMYGOSSIP — Sofia Richie took “years to find” a mascara which worked for her.
The 21-year-old model has revealed her beauty secrets and tips, and she admitted her go-to product isn’t the luxury purchase you might expect after she spent a long time figuring out the right one.
She explained: “I never understood why mascara didn’t work on me.
“I’d wear it and go home mortified because I spent all day with mascara down my face, I looked crazy. So it took me years to find a mascara that worked for me.”
Sofia sought advice from an expert who revealed her “eyes produce a lot of oil”, and she eventually settled on Maybelline’s Lash Sensational, which costs just £8.99.
Opening up about her choice in a beauty video for Vogue, she said: “A dermatologist told me it was because my eyes produce a lot of oil and then I found Maybelline.
“I have been using this for years and will never use another mascara ever. It’s the only one that works for me.”
Meanwhile, Sofia’s famous father Lionel Richie joined her during the tutorial and revealed his own secret to looking youthful.
The 70-year-old singer added: “My beauty regime is sleep and water and I guess that’s all I need to do.”
Meanwhile, Lionel previously insisted he isn’t worried about his daughter having a career in the fashion industry because she’s a “smart mountain goat”.
He said: “For a young person, she is really smart because she has sat there and watched all of us go through it. And very seldom do mountain goats fall off the mountain. In other words she was raised in Hollywood, California – this is the mountain and she is a true mountain goat. There isn’t too much she hasn’t heard or seen already.”

Paris Hilton: Juicy Couture tracksuits became my uniform

OHMYGOSSIP — Paris Hilton was “obsessed” with her signature Juicy Couture velour tracksuits from the moment she put her first one on.
The 38-year-old hotel heiress is synonymous with the velvet touch designer two-piece which she was first given by the brand in early 2000s and inspired everyone from Kim Kardashian West to Madonna to take on the trend, and she says they “became her uniform” for every occasion.
She told Vogue: “As soon as I first put on my first Juicy tracksuit, I was obsessed.
“I just fell in love with the brand and it basically became my uniform – I was not only wearing them to the airport, chilling at my house in them, but I was going out at night in them and I was rocking them with everything.”
In recent times, Paris has toned down her fashion “a little bit”, taking influence from her younger sister Nicky Hilton Rothschild.
The socialite is known for going all out, with “pink and sparkles” very much a staple in her wardrobe, but when she is chilling at home she opts for her tracksuits.
However, she has revealed that she now likes to dress a “bit more understated sometimes” like her 36-year-old sibling, with her favourite look being a Chanel suit.
That doesn’t mean to say she won’t be seen reverting back to her OTT style every now and then.
She said: “I do have a signature look – I love pink and I love sparkles – but my style has changed over the years.
“I have been really influenced by my sister Nicky, whose style has always been the complete opposite of mine.
“I’ve learned to tone it down a little bit, be a little bit more understated sometimes.
“But it depends on the situation; I’m a chameleon.
“I can show up in a Chanel suit, looking like a businesswoman, but if I’m at a party or Halloween or Burning Man, then I’m going all out.”

Virgil Abloh predicts streetwear will die in the next decade

OHMYGOSSIP — Virgil Abloh believes streetwear will “die” out in the next decade.
The chief executive office of Louis Vuitton’s menswear worked in Chicago street fashion and launched his career starting out as an intern at Fendi in 2009, alongside rapper Kanye West, who he would go on to collaborate with.
The 39-year-old designer – who founded Milan-based label Off-White in 2013 – feels people prefer to express their style through vintage pieces these days, rather than “boxfresh” hoodies, sneakers and t-shirts.
He told Dazed: “Wow. I would definitely say it’s gonna die, you know? Like, its time will be up.
“In my mind, how many more t-shirts can we own, how many more hoodies, how many sneakers?
“I think that like we’re gonna hit this like, really awesome state of expressing your knowledge and personal style with vintage – there are so many clothes that are cool that are in vintage shops and it’s just about wearing them.
“I think that fashion is gonna go away from buying a boxfresh something; it’ll be like, hey I’m gonna go into my archive.”
Virgil also spoke of what it means to be a fashion designer, insisting that there is more to clothes than the fabric they are made of, whilst he added how proud he is to have had the nerve to make “something of his own”.
He said: “You know, I grew up in the 80s and 90s and in that generation we had our own idea of what a fashion designer is, and we had our own idea of what a musician was – people would say that hip hop is just sampling, that it’s not even like, playing the piano…
“As a fashion designer I’ve had enough of a thick skin to explore and make (it) something of my own.”
He added: “I believe being a fashion designer is selling it short if it’s just limited to making clothes.
“A piece of clothing is more important than the fabric it’s made of – it’s representative, it means something.
“It says something about a generation, a brand … when I think of fashion brands, I immediately think of like, United Colours of Benetton or Ralph Lauren, or Margiela – just say a brand or say a designer and it takes you to a different place because everything they did embodied something.
“That to me is what a fashion designer is today, not simply the antiquated version of what the term means.”

Kate Upton’s workout class stormed by animal activists

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Upton’s gym class was interrupted by angry animal rights activists protesting her partnership with Canada Goose.
The 27-year-old supermodel announced she was joining forces with the outwear brand in November to support their campaign for the conservation of polar bears.
And on Wednesday (18.12.19), whilst she was running her Strong4Me Fitness class in New York, the activists hurled verbal abuse at her, screaming “shame on you!” as they made their way into Skimm HQ.
They also shouted that she had “blood on their hands.”
According to PageSix, one vegan protestor even wished death on the Sports Illustrated beauty.
He allegedly said: “I hope you get shot in the head and you’re strangled to death … You’re an influencer.
“You should be promoting kindness and yet you promote violence. Shame on you, you murderer!”
Kate didn’t respond to the activists, who were said to be pushed out of the studio by the gym-goers in the room.
Canada Goose has long been condoned for their use of animal fur and feathers in their garments which are allegedly obtained via cruel methods.
Upton announced her partnership with the company on World Kindness Day (13.11.19).
She wrote: “I’m proud to partner with Canada Goose and PBI to help raise awareness and ensure a future for Polar Bears. I recently had the honor of visiting the new PBI House to learn about polar bears, polar bear research, and the role each of us plays in polar bear conservation.
Thank you @canadagoose & @polarbearsinternational for you efforts to make this world a better place. (sic)”
The model is yet to comment publicity on the incident.
Several celebrities, including Pamela Anderson – a long-time PETA member – have condemned Canada Goose.
The 52-year-old model-and-actress previously penned a letter to over 800 Canada Goose employees urging them to use their positions to put pressure on the company to stop using fur from coyotes on the hoods on some of their jackets due to the cruel trapping methods.
As well as the letter written by former ‘Baywatch’ actress Pamela, actor Justin Long went undercover inside a Canada Goose store to highlight the use of coyote fur and actress Maggie Q led a protest outside the company’s Toronto headquarters calling for coyote fur use to end.
Meanwhile, last March, Drake was urged by animal rights group PETA to end his association with the brand after claiming to have become a vegetarian.
PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) penned an open letter to the ‘Hold On, We’re Going Home’ hitmaker telling him that if he was in fact vegetarian he should end his clothing line OVO Clothing’s association with Canada Goose.

Bobby Brazier’s model ambition

OHMYGOSSIP — Jade Goody and Jeff Brazier’s model son is heading to Paris Fashion Week.
Bobby Brazier, 16, has revealed his passion for the fashion industry and revealed he is heading to Paris and Milan soon with his agent.
He told MailOnline: “Modelling has been great fun, I’m loving it: you get a chance to do something exciting. I’m going to Paris and Milan with my agent Cesar in January – it’s going to be a great experience.”
The sensible teenager is currently juggling his fledgling modelling career with an apprenticeship in digital marketing but hopes to eventually make it his main focus.
He explained: “I’m modelling alongside my apprenticeship; I’m not sure if it will be full time yet, we will have to see how it goes!”
Bobby – who lost his mum Jade to cervical cancer in 2009 – has signed up the The Unsigned Group modelling agency, which has represented stars including Helena Christensen and Eva Herzigova.
Cesar Perin, Director of Models said: “Bobby’s look is incredible – he has an incredible future ahead of him and with his Dad, Jeff, we are working together to make it as bright for him as possible.”
Jeff previously revealed Bobby had been scouted by several modelling agencies.
He said: “He’s learning how to DJ because he’s interested in that, so I’ll obviously support that. He’s signed up with a model agency because he had quite a few that wanted to take him on, and he hasn’t done anything yet, but you know, that will be interesting to see what happens for him. I know he’s quite sort of hopeful for what that might bring, and basically it just seems like there’s a few opportunities available to him.”
And Bobby impressed with two As, three Bs and three Cs in his GCSEs before going on to start his apprenticeship in digital marketing.
He added: “I’m really proud of Bob. It was a shame that last year he really kind of didn’t give himself enough credit for how capable he was academically. His exam results, for him, were a real shock because he’d told himself that he was going to do a lot worse than he actually did. He got two A’s, three B’s, three C’s in the end, and that’s really not a bad return for a kid that didn’t really try particularly hard at revising, no matter how many times I sort of said to him ‘come on, mate, put an hour or two in.'”

Kris Jenner ‘bursting with pride’ over beauty mogul daughters

OHMYGOSSIP — Kris Jenner is “bursting with pride” over her beauty mogul daughters.
The 64-year-old showbiz matriarch got choked up at the KKW Beauty and Kylie Cosmetics holiday party in Los Angeles, where she reflected on how far her daughters Kim Kardashian West and Kylie Jenner have come since setting up their respective beauty businesses.
She said: “As a little idea from Kylie and me and Jen and Matthew was there too, a few people with a really big idea… we couldn’t do it without you.
“When we started out, and KKW Beauty was just a dream for a minute, and then we became one big family, it makes me so proud. I am bursting with pride for my daughters.”
Kim shared footage of her mother’s emotional speech on her Instagram story.
Meanwhile, Kim, 39, recently revealed how proud she is of Kylie after the 22-year-old mogul sold her cosmetics company for $600 million.
The reality star sold a majority stake in her Kylie Cosmetics and Kylie Skin brands to beauty giant Coty – which owns around 77 brands including Hugo Boss, Burberry, Rimmel and Max Factor – and her older half-sister thinks her sibling is “inspiring and amazing”.
She gushed: “I’m so proud of her. To think in her early 20s, she built a business off of something that she first was insecure about and finding confidence and, you know, just tapping into that and figuring out how to make an amazing product and just being true to herself and doing what she loves to do, that’s so inspiring and so amazing and I’m so proud of her.”
And Kim revealed Kylie had been planning for over a year to sell the 51 per cent stake in her company.
She added: “I’ve known that selling her business was always in the works for her for a long time.
“A lot of companies were bidding and really wanted to buy her brand, and so selling just about half of it was a decision that she made about a year ago and, you know, that she wanted to.”

Gabrielle Union launches inclusive holiday clothing range

OHMYGOSSIP — Gabrielle Union has launched her inclusive holiday clothing range.
The ‘Being Mary Jane’ star has teamed up with New York & Company for a 51-piece holiday collection, which promises to feature clothes to fit all shapes and sizes.
She said: “If it doesn’t fit right, it ain’t right. That’s what it all came down to. When you’re not doing it right, you’re ignoring 67 percent of Americans who are plus-sized.”
And the 47-year-old actress and television personality feels her success in her new range comes from “expanding” the “circle” of her team to ensure all voices are heard.
Speaking at the launch event, she added: “This is where you lead humbly … It’s easy to lead with your numbers and your success but a better business move is to centre where you are weakest. Centre your blind spots. But if you don’t have the right people on your team you’re not going to ever know what those blind spots are … I showed up, I listened and I expanded the circle.”
Meanwhile, Gabrielle previously opened up about her personal clothing favourites, revealing she always makes sure that she has a sweater or a knit dress in her closet and she is obsessed with jumpsuits and a “great jacket”.
She explained: “I’m bi-coastal and travel a lot and they’re the easiest thing for me to pack whether I’m in New York or Los Angeles. A jumpsuit is so versatile. I want one for every occasion. You can dress them up or down, and they look good on every body type. Every year I splurge on a great jacket. A good coat can make any outfit look amazing when you walk into a room.”

Sofia Richie has ‘very sensitive skin’

OHMYGOSSIP — Sofia Richie has “very sensitive skin”.
The 21-year-old model likes to make sure her beauty routine is as easy as possible to achieve and without too much fuss.
She said: “I have very sensitive skin. Dr. Lancer is my family dermatologist and I’ve been going to him since I was 13. If I’m going to a shoot, I will wake up and drive with these [hydrating eye patches in] all the way to the shoot until I get into the makeup chair.”
Sofia likes to wear sunscreen “every single day” and takes after her parents for make up and skincare inspiration.
Speaking in a video for Vogue magazine, she said: “My favourite part of her makeup routine was watching her [mom] do lips. I’m a gloss girl. I think a plump glossy lip looks sexy on me … My dad probably gets his nails, his hair, and gets facials more than me. So I aspire to be like him.”
Meanwhile, father Lionel Richie previously insisted he isn’t worried about his daughter Sofia Richie having a career in the fashion industry because she’s a “smart mountain goat”.
He said: “For a young person, she is really smart because she has sat there and watched all of us go through it. And very seldom do mountain goats fall off the mountain. Rose Byrne’s LED light therapy mask

OHMYGOSSIP — Rose Byrne uses an LED light therapy mask.
The ‘Instant Family’ star has revealed the lengths she goes to to get youthful skin with her hair stylist insisting “that’s what it takes nowadays”.
Rose’s celebrity friends and fans quickly responded after Rose shared the photo online, with one writing: “Yaaaasssss preserve darling (sic)”
Whilst another added: “Whatever it takes. Although you’re already gorgeous.”
Meanwhile, Rose previously admitted she has compiled a beauty “bible”.
The ‘Bridesmaids’ actress said: “I discovered I was allergic to all these chemicals and we put together a very strict bible of all the products I could use. I use a NARS tinted moisturiser. I love those Fresh lip stains. I wear them religiously. They are terrific in a berry colour. I try to put on a hat if I can.”
Despite discovering her sensitivity to makeup, Rose insists on wearing cosmetics everyday to ensure she looks her best.
She explained: “I actually wear makeup everyday. Growing up, my mum never wore a lot of makeup, she was very natural. However, it’s important to take care of yourself and it doesn’t hurt to put on a bit of lipstick.”
However, the 40-year-old star still believes that “beauty comes from within” but insists its difficult for women to accept their appearance in the film industry as they are constantly criticised over their looks.
She shared: “Beauty comes from within. It’s a cliché, but I think it’s true. However, in this business, it’s hard to reconcile that when you’re constantly being told things about your appearance, whether it’s that you are too pretty or too plain or too brunette or whatever the problem is.”

Drew Barrymore struggles to be confident

OHMYGOSSIP — Drew Barrymore finds it “harder” to be confident the older she gets.
The ‘Miss You Already’ star admits “doesn’t feel good about herself” and says she is much more self-conscious now, regularly criticising her own appearance when she’s on a photoshoot or film set.
She said: “It gets harder as you get older. I will see the monitor all the time at photoshoots and just think, ‘Holy hell. I hate what I’m seeing. I don’t feel good about myself. Where did my chin go? Why is it inside my neck? Why are my two eyes so different? Why does the hair not look right? Oh my god! My puffiness, my dark circles. I will literally eviscerate myself.’
“And I just think, ‘You know what? Eventually, I don’t want to do this anymore because I don’t want to look at myself that way.'”
Drew also opened up about her style icons, revealing she looked to the likes of Madonna, Barbra Streisand and Jane Fonda.
She added: “I loved Madonna. I loved Elton John. I always was drawn to people who … Barbra Streisand, Jane Fonda. You never knew what they were going to look like as a character or in a movie or the way they were wearing their hair and makeup, the style. Cher. This was what inspired me growing up. I loved the theatrics, but I really loved the curiosity, the burning question of what are they going to do next, and then when they present that.”
And when it comes to modern day style icons, Drew praised Lady Gaga.
Speaking on the Allure Podcast, she added: “I was teaching my daughters that that’s the term – chameleon – that they change their colours. [Lady] Gaga is the epitome of that. And she really reminds me of David Bowie, and there was a moment where she did his tribute at the Grammys and was him, and I thought it was just the perfect alignment of the stars. The Gagas of the world and the David Bowies are just so important because they just tell everybody to be who they are with such celebration.”

Kelly Ripa’s embarrassing fashion choices

OHMYGOSSIP — Kelly Ripa says her 18-year-old daughter is mortified by her style choices.
The 49-year-old TV presenter and husband Mark Consuelos’ daughter Lola, 18, loves fashion but her parents admitted that she finds their fashion sense highly embarrassing.
Mark told PEOPLE: “She’s cool. She’s really cool. She’s always been cool but we have nothing to do with it.”
Kelly added: “We have nothing to do with it literally because she’s mortified by everything we put on.
“She doesn’t even bother with me. She just feels that what I wear is embarrassing and awful. But then I think that means that I’ve gotten something right. I don’t think your teenage daughters should like what you’re wearing.”
However, Mark admitted that Lola will sometimes help him with his outfit choices.
He said: “I do ask her for advice sometimes. You know, she’ll let us know if something’s bad.”
Mark and Kelly also have sons Michael, 22, and Joaquin, 16, together.
Meanwhile, Lola began her freshman year at New York University, where her brother Michael is also a student, in August and her parents are missing having all of their kids around the house.
Mark recently said: “We had the whole gang back recently. As much as when you’re a young parent … you’re like, ‘I can’t wait until this is kind of easy, or you want a little more peace and quiet. Now the peace and quiet is so sad. When we get them back together in the house, it’s so nice.”

Hayley Kiyoko’s beauty struggles

OHMYGOSSIP — Hayley Kiyoko has struggled with defining beauty.
The 28-year-old singer – who identifies as lesbian – admitted that she has been torn between dressing in a feminine or masculine way but ultimately decided that beauty is within and she now has the confidence to wear whatever she wants.
Hayley told Allure: “I’ve definitely struggled with defining beauty and what that means on the scale of femininity and masculinity. It’s OK to want to dress feminine one day and masculine another day,” she says over the phone. “Beauty is within. Beauty is about confidence and embracing who you are. That’s something that took me a long time growing up to see, ‘Oh, it’s about how I feel, and being comfortable in my own skin.'”
And Hayley revealed that she is now more comfortable in her skin than ever before.
She said: “Self-care and skin care go hand in hand. Taking care of my skin makes me more present to focus on what I’m working on and the people I’m surrounded by. Do everything you can to be comfortable in your own skin.
“We put so much pressure on ourselves to be something. And sometimes we need time. Maybe we’re not as confident as we want to be or are still discovering who we are. We don’t have to decide that now. Alleviate that pressure off of you. I put that pressure on what beauty is and what that looks like, and as soon as I took that pressure off myself I was like, this is me, ‘This is who I am.’ All of a sudden all of those things that I was trying to build for myself just came.”
