Maria Grazia Chiuri feels ‘proud’ of fashion industry amid coronavirus pandemic

OHMYGOSSIP — Maria Grazia Chiuri feels proud of how the fashion industry has responded to the coronavirus pandemic.
The 56-year-old designer – who is the creative director at Dior – is heartened to see how different brands have come together amid the health crisis.
She shared: “My family is in Rome. We have several factories in Italy, including one in Tuscany. Normally we would spend some time in Italy before showing a collection because we want to see the final prototypes and shapes. This season though, we had no time to reflect on what was happening.
“When things worsened, my first priority was to say to my team: ‘Please, we have to protect ourselves now, and find a different way to work.’ We immediately got computers so we could work remotely. I love to share ideas with my team – we speak all the time.
“Social distancing, especially from my background, feels strange.”
Maria thinks it’s “beautiful” to see the efforts of some of the world’s best-known brands during the pandemic.
She wrote in Vogue: “We’ve been working in isolation for several weeks now.
“We share things via FaceTime and WhatsApp. Honestly, though, it’s not so easy. To have an idea and make a sketch is one thing, but our work is practical. It’s always a very involved, hands-on process.
“Recently, one of our Baby Dior workshops in Redon, Brittany, reopened in order to make masks. I’m very proud of the whole fashion system. So many industries are using their knowledge, capacity and resources to invent and make things that the medical community currently needs.
“I’m really happy that the fashion world has reacted to this situation by immediately starting to produce masks. Not only the big brands such as Dior, Armani and Prada but also smaller companies. It’s beautiful what’s happening there.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Olivier Rousteing thinks online fashion shows allow the audience to push their dreams “to the next level”.
The 34-year-old designer – who has been the creative director of Balmain since 2011 – believes there are some distinct advantages to broadcasting shows on the web.
He said: “I don’t see digital as less emotional; I see digital as an experience where you can push your dreams to the next level.”
Rousteing also suggested the way the audience connects with a fashion show will evolve as more events are staged online.
He told Vogue: “Before people were clapping, now people are Instagramming, which is another kind of emotion. I’m sure that in the future that we can find a way with illustration, with digital, to bring that kind of emotion.”
Meanwhile, Natacha Ramsay-Levi – the acclaimed personal stylist – thinks it’s important to retain a “human dimension” to future fashion shows.
She explained: “We must be aware that the audience is mostly digital, but I won’t kill the shows. The shows are a beautiful moment.
“It’s only 600 in a room, but it’s more than 600 working behind the [scenes]. I think that’s beautiful and that we should be proud of it.
“Fashion shows are special events, I believe. They are here to inspire and engage conversation – and they have a meaning and they must feel authentic. There’s a human dimension to it which I’m very keen to keep.”

Victoria Beckham ‘sues London construction firm’

OHMYGOSSIP — Victoria Beckham is reportedly suing the construction company who fitted her flagship store in London.
The 45-year-old fashion designer had to close the store after a steel panel fell on the ground, endangering her staff in the process, and she is now claiming £800,000 from the London-based firm NJ Richards.
The Sun newspaper reports that the legal papers – which were filed in the High Court last month – read: “The Claimant claims the defendant acted in breach of its obligations and/or warranties in the respect of the refurbishment and fit out of the Claimant’s store located at 36 Dover Street, London.”
NJ Richards is alleged to have breached its duty of care and caused defects, as emergency work had to be carried out to protect the safety of staff.
However, the construction company responded: “We are aware of an unproven claim that is being dealt with by our insurers.”
NJ Richards was hired to design and install steel stairs, concrete slabbing and to polish the concrete floors in the Mayfair store.
They also installed a Rimex ceiling, a mirrored cladding system and the shop’s lighting system.
The store is temporarily closed amidst the coronavirus lockdown, but Victoria’s online site is still going strong.
Meanwhile, Victoria recently announced plans to give a fifth of her clothing brand and beauty brand sales’ to those helping the country to battle the coronavirus.
She said: “We are committed to caring and supporting those on the front lines of the COVID-19 relief efforts – words can’t describe how thankful we all are for the bravery and hard work of everyone who is making significant sacrifices to keep us safe. We are in this together.
“At Victoria Beckham and Victoria Beckham Beauty, we firmly believe that during these uncertain times, feeding yourself and your family should not be one of those uncertainties.”

Alexis Ren: Perception is everything

OHMYGOSSIP — Alexis Ren thinks “perception is everything”.
The 23-year-old model believes public perception helps to shape reality, insisting that caring about how she’s viewed isn’t “wasted energy” at all.
Asked why she cares about what people think of her, Alexis replied on Twitter: “Because I care HOW people think. Perception is everything, it’s what’s sculpted this reality. (sic)”
Another Twitter user then insisted that all realities are “distinct to the individual”.
And Alexis – who was named a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Rookie of the year in 2018 – replied: “Yes but we are apart of a collective consciousness that does effect our perception because of the whole we-are-one-and-science-proves- that thing so as much as we can create our own perception, how much inner peace can we truly have in a world so wounded? (sic)”
Meanwhile, Alexis previously admitted she struggled to make friends as a child.
The model found it tough to form friendships during her childhood because she was homeschooled – and for that reason, Alexis is amazed she now has so many followers on social media.
Alexis – who now has 13.8 million followers on Instagram and 1.5 million followers on Twitter – wrote on the photo-sharing website back in 2018: “i was homeschooled my entire life so I didn’t have many friends and grew up shy and introverted. who would’ve known 11 million people would end up following my life (sic)”

Hailey Bieber keeps a simple skincare regime

OHMYGOSSIP — Hailey Bieber likes to keep a simple skincare regime.
The 23-year-old model suffers with Perioral dermatitis – an inflammatory rash around the mouth – and prefers to use minimal ingredients and products on her face to help ease her condition.
Speaking to Glamour, she explained: “I have Perioral dermatitis, so certain products irritate my skin, giving me a horrible itchy rash around my mouth and eyes.
“I always try to avoid fragrance in products as it’s too much on the skin. However, I don’t always know what’s being put on my skin as I work with lots of different make-up artists.”
Instead, Hailey sticks to a few beauty products to help clear away any impurities in her skin.
She said: “I don’t like a lot of steps as I don’t usually have the time.
“I start with cleansing and washing, then putting on a serum and moisturiser. If I have more time at night, I’ll put on a face mask or extra moisturiser.”
Hailey and her husband Justin Bieber are currently self-isolating in Canada, and the clean air is helping the blonde beauty’s skin as it flairs up whilst she is on birth control.
She said: “I’m on a birth control now where I don’t have a period, but I still feel symptoms of PMS and this can also affect my skin too.
“My skin actually stays a lot better in Canada where there’s cleaner air, than when I’m in New York or Los Angeles.”
Hailey relies on sleep to help boost her skin. But the model admitted that travelling impacts her schedule and dries out her skin.
Hailey added: “I never sleep with my make-up on, even at my drunkest I’ve never fallen asleep with make-up on my face.
“Sleep and rest is so important for the skin. If I’m working and travelling a lot and my sleep schedule is off I notice my skin gets really dry.”

Sidney said: “Under her creative leadership … the maison reconnected with the founding values of Hubert de Givenchy and his innate sense of elegance.”
During her time at Givenchy, Keller was responsible for designing Meghan Markle’s wedding dress in 2018, and she subsequently admitted to underestimating the scale of her task.
She shared: “I had no idea how momentous it was going be.
“The last time there was a royal wedding there was no Instagram, really, or any of those huge social networks. So it really took me aback, actually.

Keller’s work has also drawn praise from Hollywood actress Julianne Moore.
She previously said: “The world gasped when they saw that bride, and everyone wanted to know who had made that  dress.

Tommy Hilfiger want to create digital fashion shows

OHMYGOSSIP — Tommy Hilfiger are looking at creating digital fashion shows.
The fashion brand have been experimenting with avatars and holograms at its innovation centre in Amsterdam, and has bosses have said they could be set to move solely into “virtual runway shows” in the future.
Daniel Grieder, chief executive officer of Tommy Hilfiger Global and PVH Europe, said: “We are looking into that. We try to fully digitise that value chain also, and try to enable virtual runway shows.”
The brand has been running some “tests” amid the coronavirus pandemic to see if the digital shows are a viable option, and Grieder says they could be set to keep doing shows virtually even after the health crisis has passed.
He added: “We did some tests, it’s something new and I think the end consumer and the trade will like it. As soon as this virus is over, and we are back to the new normal, we will try to implement that within a few months. The technology is already around, technology tested by us, and we see great opportunities going in that direction.”
Whilst founding and titular designer Tommy Hilfiger has insisted he is opened to new possibilities, as he said technology has the power to “reach new creative heights”.
He explained: “From Day One, I’ve always listened to what the consumer wants, and embraced that as the starting point for my designs and to create unique pop culture experiences. Digital technology has become something most of us can no longer live without – never has this been truer than in today’s unprecedented landscape. As technology evolves, so does its ability to bring us together and reach new creative heights. I can’t reveal yet how exactly this is going to look for us in the future, but I can promise the best is yet to come!”
As of the time of writing, the brand are looking into the possibility of using augmented reality, virtual reality and mixed reality solutions, which would use avatars instead of real life models.
Speaking to WWD, Grieder said: “We have created avatars. You can use them as fit models, we can even do campaigns with them, we can integrate them into fashion shows. We have it in place, but we have not yet used it in the outside world as we are still testing and experiencing internally.”

Emily Ratajkowski styles hair to ‘stay sane’

OHMYGOSSIP — Emily Ratajkowski styles her hair to “stay sane”.
The 28-year-old model has urged people to practice “self-care” whilst staying at home during the coronavirus pandemic, and says that even the simple act of taking a shower and styling her hair can help her feel relaxed and at ease.
She said: “A tip to staying sane is: showering and brushing your hair. Seriously, just do it. Maybe even put lotion on. You’ll be amazed at how much little rituals of self-care can help lift your mood.”
And Emily also believes there are “no rules” during the current health crisis when it comes to routine, as she encouraged people not to “pressure” themselves to conform to a particular schedule.
She added: “Something to remember is: No rules. If one night you can’t fall asleep, fine. If one afternoon you can’t seem to stay awake, fine. Listen to your body and stop pressuring yourself. Please.”
The ‘Gone Girl’ actress has been reading books during the new free time she has acquired thanks to the lockdown, including ‘This Life’ by Martin Hägglund, which she credited with giving her “hope” amid the health crisis.
Speaking about the title during an interview with Vogue, she said: “Another concise (albeit dense) and philosophical book I’m enjoying making my way through right now is Martin Hägglund’s This Life. Hägglund devotes a lot of his argument to the value of time and the power we have in what we chose to do with it. He also argues that the finite amount of time we have on earth is what makes life have purpose.
“In a moment when many of us have more time on our hands and fewer things that make us busy and easily distracted, this is a nice text to offer perspective and hope.”

Anna Wintour: Coronavirus will change the fashion industry forever

OHMYGOSSIP — Anna Wintour thinks the coronavirus pandemic will change the fashion industry forever.
The Vogue editor-in-chief will be hosting a “global conversation” next week with fashion industry bosses to discuss “the future of the runway show”, after many events in the fashion calendar were cancelled as a result of coronavirus.
And Anna thinks the virus – which has forced many fashion brands to look into online solutions – will push the industry toward making real changes to the way runway shows operate, including making them more sustainable.
She said: “We are actually hosting a Vogue global conversations next week over a four-day period, where we are going to talk about the future of the runway show. We’re going to talk about the future of e-commerce … the future of creativity, and the future of retail … because there’s no way we’re going back to the way things were.
“I think, you know, a lot of us were talking a lot about sustainability, and the fact that we were all flying so much. And the shows were so big and so expensive … these issues, these really important issues are being thrust upon us in a much more significant and immediate way, and these are questions that everybody is asking.”
Anna has teamed up with designer Tom Ford to create a fund called A Common Thread, which will give “micro loans” to small businesses and designers that are struggling to cope as the pandemic grips the US.
The editor believes the support system will help prevent new voices in fashion from giving up on their dream, and hopes she can help up and coming names “survive” until the virus subsides.
She added: “We’re going to be giving out what we call micro loans, like $5-, $10-, $15-, $20-, up to $100,000 just to try and help the ones that we feel need it the most … so that they can get through these next few months and be able to survive.”
And Anna knows firsthand what battling the virus is like, as her son is a doctor working in a coronavirus ward, who caught the illness himself.
Speaking to Gayle King on ‘CBS This Morning’, she said: “I am so, so proud of my son. He’s a doctor. And he is right back in the emergency room with the COVID wards right now.
“He was pretty sick. I’m sure you’ve heard from many others that so many doctors and so many nurses, you know, got sick … but he was, once he was able, determined to go right back in and help, and do everything he can.”

Ashley Graham: Keeping a beauty routine is ‘important’

OHMYGOSSIP — Ashley Graham says keeping up a beauty routine during self-isolation is “important”.
The 32-year-old model is staying at home as much as possible and practicing social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic, and has said that despite changes to her daily life, she still maintains her usual skincare routine.
She said: “While I haven’t been wearing makeup every day, I do think that sticking to my routine during this time is important.”
And on some days, Ashley still breaks out her make-up kit, as she says applying the products has helped “lift [her] mood and spirit”.
She added: “Last week, I decided to do a full face of makeup using products from the [Revlon] Tropical Vibes collection and it definitely boosted my creativity levels and helped lift my mood and spirit. Even creating a blue eyeliner using the shadow from the palette and applying it for my afternoon video meetings or dinner with my family helps bring some normalcy to this uncertain situation.”
Ashley spends most of her day looking after her two-month-old son Isaac – whom she has with her husband Justin Ervin – but says taking time for “self-care” is just as important as ever during the current global health crisis.
Speaking to Refinery29, she said: “My son Isaac is now my number-one priority and is truly a source of unconditional love and happiness. As mothers, we willingly make a lot of sacrifices for our babies, but it’s important for the well-being of our families that we find time for self-care, too.”
Meanwhile, Ashley recently revealed she’s been spending her time in self-isolation at her mother’s home in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Ashley, Justin, and Isaac usually live in New York City – which has the highest number of coronavirus cases in the US – and so they travelled to Ashley’s hometown before the city went into lockdown.
She explained: “When the news started coming in about the COVID-19 pandemic, my mom decided for us to go back to my hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska. She said, ‘Well, why don’t we just drive. We can go to my house.’
“Everyone was sceptical: ‘Drive to Nebraska? That’s 20 hours!’ But it was actually the right decision for us, because we could spend time not only with her but my husband Justin parents, who met us here a week later. It’s been nice to have family around us; we’re fortunate enough to have this base. I have my New York coffee mug right in front of me, and I am missing the city and my friends, but I’m glad we came.”
