Naomi Campbell: It’s important to play around with makeup

OHMYGOSSIP — Naomi Campbell says it’s important to “play around” with makeup.
The 50-year-old model is known for her glamorous looks, but has said she doesn’t see makeup as an integral part of her life, but instead as a “fun accessory” that should be used to make the wearer “feel good”.
She said: “For me, makeup is just fun. It’s just a fun accessory, and you ought to have fun with it. When you have the time, when you can play around with it, do. It’s all about making yourself feel good, and it’s real good [for] self-esteem.”
Naomi loves to “experiment” with makeup, and always tries to have fun with “new colours”.
She added: “When I’m doing makeup, I’m playing at the same time. So I’m trying to new colour, trying something new each time. It’s kind of an experiment to see how it turns out each time.”
The beauty picked up several of her beauty tips from her mother, and admitted to raiding her makeup bag when she was a youngster in order to play around with the products inside.
Speaking as she went through her 10-minute makeup routine for Vogue.com, she said: “I used to watch my mother do her makeup because [she] was a dancer. I used to sneak into my mother’s makeup bag [with] Fashion Fair and Flori Roberts, which were the only brands you could find then for dark skin.
“I used to go into my mother’s makeup kit and basically try to do my makeup like my mother’s. I used to put so much on, but I thought I looked great. I just thought, well, I’m was trying to be someone else. Not sure who that person was.”

Gucci launches sustainable line featuring Jane Fonda and Lil Nas X

OHMYGOSSIP — Gucci has unveiled its new sustainable range with the help of Jane Fonda and Lil Nas X.
The Italian luxury brand have launched the campaign for their Off The Grid line, which is the first collection from Gucci Circular Lines, designed by Alessandro Michele using recycled, organic, bio-based and sustainably sourced materials.
The campaign features iconic talent from several areas of the industry, including actress and activist Jane Fonda, rapper Lil Nas X, singer King Princess, Japanese guitarist Miyavi, and environmentalist David de Rothschild.
Clothes in the range are produced under Gucci’s carbon neutral commitment, which means the fashion house works to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions as much as possible across the supply chain, as well as offsetting the emissions they do produce through projects that support important forests and biodiversity.
Designer Alessandro said in a statement: “The collection is the result of teamwork; everybody brought something to it. And in the campaign, too, there is this idea of dialogue among people building something new. I imagined that we could build a treehouse in a city centre, all together, like kids playing in the park. Because all of us need to build this house or to find out that our planet exists, even where it seems it’s not there, or it’s far away.”
Whilst Miyavi added: “We are all living on this planet and then we need to give back to this planet. Technically everything should be sustainable and then recycle, even after we die. So, even the gear and materials, or even the clothes, I think now is the time to think about what’s the right path, what’s the right thing to do as a human being.”
The line is comprised of various sizes of bags, purses, and wallets, as well as six pairs of shoes, three hats, two pairs of pants, and three different jackets.
Prices of items in the collection range from $1,500 for the Off The Grid Backpack, to $175 for the line’s card holder.

Lizzo’s mood influences makeup looks

OHMYGOSSIP — Lizzo’s makeup changes with her mood.
The ‘Juice’ hitmaker often sports striking looks that range from bright neon colours to sultry browns and golds, and her makeup artist Alexx Mayo has said she decides which look she wants to go for depending on the emotions she feels each day.
Alexx explained: “We are very big about playing on mood. Sometimes we’re feeling very energised or loud or colourful and bright. And sometimes, we have days where we’re feeling emotional. I feel like that really reflects in the makeup.”
But no matter what kind of look Alexx is creating, he always makes sure to use his “secret weapon” to make sure he achieves the perfect pigment in his eyeshadow.
He added: “I get asked all the time, ‘How do you get eyeshadows to be so vibrant or to be so saturated?’ and I would not be able to do that without an eyeshadow primer. And specifically, the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion is my secret weapon.”
And at the end of the day, he and Lizzo always settle down to take her makeup off the same way – by enjoying a “mini facial”.
Speaking about their post-show ritual, he said: “On tour, after every show, a part of the beauty process is taking the makeup off and ensuring that the skin is hydrated and cleansed and ready for the next day. So we have these little mini facials after every show to take everything off.”
Alexx and Lizzo, 32, start the treatment with a double cleanse using the Fresh Seaberry Skin Nutrition Cleansing Oil, as it is “great” for removing makeup.
The makeup artist told POPSUGAR: “It’s great, because on dry skin, you literally just massage it in and you can go over the eyes and it breaks down everything. Then when you activate it with water, it turns into this milky consistency and it really takes everything off.”

Joan Smalls blasts racism in fashion industry

OHMYGOSSIP — Joan Smalls has hit out at racism in the fashion industry.
The 31-year-old model revealed she plans to donate 50 per cent of her earnings for the rest of the year to the Black Lives Matter movement and said that as a “black and Latina woman”, she has been the victim of discrimination throughout her career.
She shared a new video on IGTV and captioned it: “We are Not a Trend. The recent and long standing acts against the black community have been saddening, frustrating and unacceptable. I feel these same emotions when I think about how my industry, the fashion world, is responding.
“It is time for this industry to do more than post a black square and say they’ll ‘Do Better!’ It’s time for us to see the change starting from the ground up. Give us a seat at the table, include us, give us a chance, because we are worthy, talented and unique.”
Joan also revealed that she has often had to share editorials, while white peers landed individual gigs.
She explained: “There have been so many times where I’ve had to face issues against my race within this industry because I was their token black girl. The campaigns and editorials I had to share while my counterparts got to achieve that on their own. Or that my hair was an issue or that I made a show or campaign too ethnic, the list goes on and on.
“This industry that I love has profited from us but has never considered us equal. This. Stops. Now. It’s time for the fashion industry to stand up and show their solidarity. Time for you all to give back to these communities and cultures which you draw so much inspiration from.”
And Joan went on to thank those who stood up for her and cast her in their campaigns.
She said: “I do want to thank those that did see me for me and gave me a chance. Those that helped me fight my way to where I am today. Thank you, thank you for doing what you knew to be right versus what others said should be done. You will help us be the leaders of change.
“In saying all of this, I also pledge to donate 50 per cent of my salary for the remainder of 2020 to Black Lives Matter organizations. I know I can’t just talk about change, I have to be a force for it. I encourage and will continue to encourage brands within this industry to do the same and give back. Let’s all be the change we want and need to see. These battles are long from over but together we’re stronger and together we can accomplish what is needed. #WeAreNotATrend #blacklivesmatter (sic).”

Donatella Versace launches Versace X Pride capsule collection

OHMYGOSSIP — Donatella Versace has launched a Versace X Pride 2020 capsule collection.
The 65-year-old fashion designer is celebrating Pride Month with the new range which will include vests, swimwear, underwear, bucket hats and socks with a rainbow motif.
A portion of the proceeds will be shared between Pride Live in the US, where Donatella is a Stonewall ambassador and Arcigay in Italy.
Speaking previously of her advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights, Donatella said: “I have always been a strong advocate and supporter of LGBTQ+ rights. Most importantly because I believe that no one should be judged for his or her sexual orientation, but also for the colour of their skin or their religious belief. It is not acceptable that there are people who live in fear because of the person they love, or worse they are persecuted, thrown out of their homes….We all need to voice our concern so that everyone can stop living in fear and is free to be whoever they want to be. We need to stop the hate and the discrimination to create a society that accepts diversity, treats everyone equally and is inclusive.”
Meanwhile, Donatella previously revealed she is determined to surround herself with anti-yes men and women.
The star thinks it’s important she’s challenged by the people she works with, saying it’d be “easy” to surround herself with sycophants.
She explained: “It’s so easy to surround yourself with people who think like you, who say yes [to everything]. That’s the moment you should retire. You should go do something else.”

Gemma Oaten’s terrifying battle with anorexia

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Oaten’s battle with anorexia left her just 24 hours from death.
The 36-year-old actress revealed that she restricted her eating so much when she was just 12 that doctors warned her she was close to dying.
She told The Sun newspaper: “I just restricted my eating completely. I constantly felt fat. It was just a spiral. I became a prisoner of my own mind…
“I would be pumped with calories, drugs and potassium and shipped back out. There was no funding to put me anywhere that was specialised.”
However, Gemma’s near-death experience wasn’t enough to help her to develop a healthy relationship with food and she spiralled again in her late teens.
She said: “My eating disorder was always there and waiting to pounce. At 18, it spiralled again and I had a heart attack. A year later at 19, I had a bowel prolapse [when the rectal wall slides out].”
However, at the age of 23, Gemma started seeing a therapist and has now been in recovery for 13 years.
Gemma’s illness led to her mum and dad setting up eating disorder support charity SEED, and Gemma now works alongside her parents to help others after putting them “through hell” as a youngster.
Gemma previously shared: “Being patron of SEED is everything to me. Mum and Dad set up a helpline 20 years ago for carers of those affected by eating disorders in the plight that they’d never have to go through what we did. It then became a charity that helped carers and sufferers, not just in Hull, but all over the country and internationally. Every penny counts for us and my fundraising, with the help of others, is vital to keep us going and keep us saving lives.”

Naomi Campbell wears lipstick to work out

OHMYGOSSIP — Naomi Campbell always puts on lipstick before working out.
The 50-year-old supermodel often shares her fitness routines on Instagram but even when she is working out on her own, with no audience, Naomi still likes to apply lipstick to make herself feel good.
She told Allure magazine: “When I work out in the morning, I put on a lipstick – just a lipstick, nothing else. It makes you feel good about yourself and gives you self-esteem. Whether I’m doing it live, whether I’m doing it privately, I do put it on. It just makes you feel, you know.”
And Naomi insisted she wears make-up for herself and never to impress a man.
She explained: “Everyone always thinks makeup and making yourself look good is for a man — No, it’s for you. You have to remember it’s for you to feel good about yourself and then comes the other exteriors. First and foremost, always remember it’s for you. Same with perfume: If you want to smell good, you put it on for you.”
Although Naomi wears a lot of cosmetics for work, the star – who is the first-ever face of Pat McGrath Labs for the new Divine Rose collection – revealed her own make-up routine is extremely low maintenance.
She said: “I don’t put foundation all over my face when I’m doing my own makeup. And I don’t spend more than 10 minutes on my own makeup. Once my eyebrows are already done, I just put the concealer in the places I need it, and that’s it.”

Tracee Ellis Ross encourages self care

OHMYGOSSIP — Tracee Ellis Ross is encouraging self care.
As the Black Lives Matter movement protests continue in America and across the world, Tracee, 47, has shared a number of breathing exercises on her Instagram page to encourage people to look after themselves amid their activism.
She explained: “3 breathing exercises that can be done anywhere
“As these necessary tectonic shifts are happening in our world and as we are leaning into difficult, complex and sharp yet necessary conversations, we must also be active about our self care. We are at the beginning of transformation. And we have a movement to hold and guide us. But, it’s a lot to feel and hold for the body and spirit. We want to honor where we are and also be able to lift up and through. I made this video a few days ago when my back was seized up (makes sense). I use breath to connect me to the present moment and to create space in my body. I use sound as a way to release vibrationally and energetically.
“Sending everyone love and light (sic).”
Tracee has been campaigning for the Black Lives Matter movement and has called for people to “show up in their own most effective way”.
She recently said: “There are so many feelings surging around in my head and my heart right now. Like all of us, I am grieving and heartbroken, sad, outraged and trying to take right action.
“I recognize the power of my platform, but also the limits of my knowledge so I am mindful of what I say, how I speak and what I post. I always want to be helpful, effective and supportive, if I can be.
“What is clear is that systems and hearts must change. I want justice for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, and so many others and for that to happen, we must all take part. Diversity of approach, thought and resources is what I believe is required in these difficult, scary and hard times. Everyone must show up in their own most effective way. I am finding mine.
“As always, I love us. I love my people. I know our beauty and our power and I want us to be safe, I want our bodies to be safe and I want us to be free and to be treated with the dignity that we deserve. Please donate to @blklivesmatter. Their link is in my bio (sic).”

Khloe Kardashian’s Good American has ‘diversity and inclusion’ at its core

OHMYGOSSIP — Khloe Kardashian’s Good American clothing brand says “diversity and inclusion” are at its core.
The fashion company responded to the Pull Up For Change initiative – started by Sharon Chuter, the black CEO and founder of UOMA Beauty – which asked brands to reveal the number of black employees at corporate level and in leadership roles.
Good American posted a message on Instagram, which stated: “Good American is here for the @pullupforchange challenge and we’re proud to be one of the first fashion brands to participate. Diversity and inclusion has always been at our core, so we see this as an opportunity to highlight the consistent and constant work our brand has done to ensure our mission is felt at all levels of the company. We are committed to continuing our focus on diversity throughout our organisation: both within the talent and partners we work with and the employees at our office. We refuse to be complacent. Please note that our numbers add up to 99 per cent because we had 99 per cent participation from our employees.”
The company went on to add that 15 per cent of employees are black, 52 per cent are white and people of colour comprise 32 per cent of the workforce.
It also revealed it has a 25 per cent black leadership team and a black female CEO and co-founder.
Good American’s message came after the Pull Up For Change initiative asked brands to share a breakdown of their teams after many posted on Instagram about the Black Lives Matter movement, following the killing of unarmed black man George Floyd by a white police officer last month.
A message on Pull Up’s Instagram stated: “Thank you for the public statements of support for the black community. Whereas we understand and appreciate the support, be conscious that to piggy back off a trending hashtag when you have been and continue to be a part of the problem is once again appropriating and exploiting the black community. So we ask all brands who have released a statement of support, to publicly release within the next 72hrs the number of black employees they have in their organisations at corporate level. We also need to know the number of black people you have in leadership roles. You all have statements and policies about being equal opportunity employers, so show us the proof! PULL UP or SHUT UP! (sic).”

Gucci launches virtual shopping service

OHMYGOSSIP — Gucci has launched a virtual shopping service.
The Italian fashion brand is adapting to the Covid-19 pandemic by introducing Gucci Live, which will allow customers to speak directly with store staff through video chat.
At the moment, Gucci is trialling the initiative in a high-tech ‘fake store’ in Florence, which features high definition cameras and clear lighting, ChargedRetail reports.
However, Gucci has plans to open five similar stores, in New York, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo.
Meanwhile, Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele recently admitted he doesn’t believe that Fashion Week will be possible in September due to the Covid-19 pandemic and he wants to choose another date for his catwalk shows.
He said: “I don’t think we will meet in person next time. We have been shut down for a long time so I don’t think we will have a regular calendar for September. I want to recover a new kind of time – real and practical – so we’ll choose another date.”
The Covid-19 lockdown has made Alessandro re-evaluate how the Italian fashion house operates and one of the first major changes he has decided to make is to cut back on Gucci shows to just twice a year, which he hopes other labels will also do.
Speaking to Vogue.co.uk, Alessandro said: “We are a big brand, so we have a responsibility to take care of our industry. We need to give it the time that’s needed. The things we make have a longer life than what we have allotted to them in the past. We all agree that fall and spring are the most appropriate [time frames] to show our work, but I hope that other brands will follow us so we can have an open dialogue to arrange new dates.”

Rylan Clark-Neal’s sustainable fashion show

OHMYGOSSIP — Rylan Clark-Neal’s new show will teach people how to “create a sustainable wardrobe”.
New BBC One show ‘You Are What You Wear’, hosted by Rylan, is a makeover show which will attempt to transform how contestants feel about themselves by overhauling their wardrobes and stylist Darren Kennedy insisted it is “very relatable”.
He told MailOnline: “It’s all very relatable. We’re showing how you create a sustainable wardrobe.
“There’s been too much focus in the past on what’s negative and we’re the opposite of that. It’s embracing the positive.”
While Rylan is the face of the show, Darren and his stylist colleagues are ultimately responsible for the client transformation.
He explained: “A client arrives into a department store of their dreams. They meet Rylan in the mirror room and look at themselves, it’s quite revealing. A lot of people who come into us haven’t looked in the mirror for quite some time.
“You get so invested with these people. Some of the stories and things they’ve been through, I’d be a big empathiser, that’s part of who I am.
“Part of my role as a stylist is to try and put myself in the other person’s shoes. You feel for them, you feel with them. Ultimately, it is uplifting though. It is a tearjerker, but it is uplifting.”

Meanwhile, Rihanna previously insisted she is her own “muse and said it is vital that she wants to wear every piece from her Fenty maison range herself or it wouldn’t be authentic.
She said: “I’m not the face of my brand, but I am the muse, and my DNA has to run all the way through it.
“I don’t want anyone to pull up my website and think, Rihanna would never wear that.”
Rihanna drops her new collections as soon as they are ready and their eclectic styles mirror her own varied tastes.
She explained: “It can be tomboy one day. It can be a gown the next. A skirt. A swimsuit.”
Though the star already had a relationship with LVMH as her Fenty Beauty range is backed by their own Kendo, she never expected chairman Bernard Arnault to invite her to create her own fashion line but jumped at the chance to take a “risk”.
She recalled: “I just thought, Really? Is he sure? Like, now?
“And then you’re left with this opportunity that’s a really big risk for everyone involved. But I’ve never been afraid to take risks. That’s the thing that got me out of my own way.
“I was like, ‘You’ve never been afraid to do anything or try anything, regardless of the outcome.’ So I accepted, and we went full steam ahead.”

Lizzo hits back at bodyshamers

OHMYGOSSIP — Lizzo says her body is “none of your f**king business”.
The 32-year-old singer shared a new video to TikTok in which she called out those who have tried to shame her about her curvy figure and revealed that she has worked out “consistently for the past five years”.
Lizzo captioned the video: “If you’re not a fat shamer… keep scrolling… ok now that all the fat shamers are here…”
She narrated the clip, which shows her riding an exercise bike and skipping, by saying: “Hey, so I’ve been working out consistently for the last five years.
“It may come as a surprise to some of y’all that I’m not working out to have your ideal body type — I’m working out to have my ideal body type.
“And you know what type that is? None of your f**king business, because I am beautiful, I am strong, I do my job and I stay on my job.
“So the next time you want to come to somebody and judge them, whether they drink kale smoothies or eat McDonalds or workout or not workout, how about you look at your own f**king self, and worry about your own damn body, because health is not just determined on what you look like on the outside.
“Health is also what happens on the inside, and a lot of y’all need to do a f**king cleanse for your insides.”
The TikTok video comes not long after Lizzo blasted fat shamers on Instagram.
She said: “Letting you bitches know that the next time you try to make fun of a woman for her body or her size, that bitch we’re out here and we don’t give a f**k!
“And we’re confident and we’re bad bitches and we’re cover stars and, yeah, we get the motherf**kin’ views, the likes, and the motherf**kin clicks because we it!
“So, thanks! And to all the big girls, I see you. Keep putting my name in the comments (sic).”

Lana Condor’s VR fitness

OHMYGOSSIP — Lana Condor stays fit thanks to her VR headset.
The ‘To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before’ star has been playing virtual reality games during the Covid-19 quarantine and she never fails to break a sweat.
She told E! News: “We got a virtual reality headset, right as everything was shutting down, and it’s been amazing during quarantine. There are so many games that make you work up a sweat and it’s so awesome. I am genuinely so sore after I play. I love to wear AERIE’s new high waisted biker shorts because there so breathable and flexi, while also making me feel safe and secure. They are great to use when you’re breaking a sweat, whether it is playing VR or going for a run! I like to pair them with the new AERIE real “free tank bralette” for extra support on the top. Throw on one of their ‘distressed crew neck t-shirt’ and you have a full, stylish, workout look.”
Lana, 23, also revealed her top beauty tip is to stay hydrated.
She explained: “I drink at least half my body weight, in ounces, of water every day. Staying hydrated is such a must- and I genuinely feel better when my body is fully hydrated.
“I feel like a broken record, but hydration, is the number one self-care tip I can give. That and being really gentle and soft with yourself. We tend to beat ourselves up all the time, comparing ourselves with others, feeling like we aren’t doing enough, or that we aren’t enough. And I always say we need to be kinder to ourselves and soft. We need to talk to ourselves that way we’d talk to our best friends or loved one.”
