Alexa Chung’s beauty lockdown secrets

OHMYGOSSIP — Alexa Chung feels “better” when she wears make up as it makes her feel like a “real human” in lockdown.
The model admits she has been quite ad-hoc with her beauty routine whilst being at home due to the coronavirus pandemic, but when she does put a little bit of mascara or concealer on, she does feel much better.
Asked if she’s been keeping up a beauty regime in lockdown, she said: “It depends. I definitely feel better on the days I do wear it because it’s more that you’re setting out your intention to be a real human that day. It’s just the basics, so concealer, mascara and lip gloss, nothing crazy. Unless I’m filming for my YouTube series in my house when I’ll definitely put a bit more on because it needs it. I think over Zoom it’s quite hard to look nice without slapping it on, it’s a really brutal format.”
And Alexa admits she doesn’t have the “patience” for a lengthy and complicated beauty and skincare routine.
Asked how she would describe her approach to beauty, she explained to Marie Claire magazine: “As much as I try, I don’t have the patience to put on multiple things and really pay attention to how it’s being slathered on. I’m very fortunate in that if I do have a big event then more often than not I’ll ask for a makeup artist to do my makeup because I want it to look a certain way.
“But if I’m doing my own beauty I wear light foundation every day, blusher and I curl my lashes. And of course I have a kind of go-to cat’s eye skill which thankfully I’m quite good at! I’m someone who picks eyes or lips, I don’t really like a ‘full face’. I think there’s a bit of fatigue as well around that. It was fun to watch that explosion in the beauty realm of all of these amazing artists come about and show you how to completely re-craft your face based on makeup, but that’s just not my beauty ideal. I always look to people like Lauren Hutton or Jane Birkin, all of my icons have a quite natural approach to beauty.”

Rita Ora’s LED light therapy

OHMYGOSSIP — Rita Ora is using LED light therapy to help with her dry skin.
The ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ star has been using the FOREO UFO 2, a device which gives off a full-spectrum LED light, thermo-therapy, cyro-therapy and advanced T-sonic pulsations, to help with her skincare routine.
The UFO 2 is to be used with UFO Power Activated Masks, which help to create the ultimate at-home spa experience.
She said: “It gives red light LED therapy which helps the skin absorb the moisture more, which for me is amazing because I have such dry skin. With the amount I travel, I can literally just take this with me everywhere and it’s so easy. It also pulses, which I love because it makes me feel like I’m having a massage. And it’s so nourishing, so rejuvenating, it makes me feel like I am ready for bed.”
And Rita admits looking after her skin is a “big one” for her.
She added: “Looking after yourself and skin is a big, big, big one for me. I like to do deeper cleans, I just did one with my hands but now I have my FOREO LUNA 3 and that gives me a deeper cleanse, and I’m actually not just saying this, it really does make me feel like I’ve had a facial. It opens all my pores and gets all my excess make up off that I’ve missed with me just washing my face with my hands and a scrub. I have to wear a lot of makeup because of what I do so it’s great for removing this. If you don’t know about this brand, it’s a Swedish brand and they produce deep cleansing skin devices and it just really gives it that extra oomph.”

Maura Higgins wants to be the new Kylie Jenner with beauty line

OHMYGOSSIP — Maura Higgins wants to be the new Kylie Jenner with her beauty line.
The ‘Love Island’ star is working with Inglot on a new 34 piece make up collection as she quipped she’d give the ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ star a run for her money in the beauty stakes.
Speaking to The Sun on Sunday, she said: “I’d say Kylie Jenner would have to watch out. I reckon she’s going to be looking for my products in the future. I want to do what the Kardashians do and use my social media channels to sell the products. I’m not just putting my name to the make-up collection, I’ve actually done a lot of hard work. I’m a very fussy person, but I’m happy with the finished results, it’s a dream come true. I’ve ensured there are so many colours to suit all different skin tones. It’s a diverse collection.”
Maura has worked with a number of brands since her time in the ITV2 show’s infamous villa and has reportedly become a millionaire after signing a big-money deal with Ann Summers. It was believed Maura agreed to a lucrative modelling contract with the lingerie retailer, with the deal said to be worth as much as £500,000.
A source said recently: “Maura will be lapping up the fact ‘Love Island’ is cancelled this summer. Given the winter series failed to produce any real stars, she can continue to secure the most lucrative brand deals. She’s a canny operator and knows she has a shelf-life, but Maura is definitely maximising her current popularity.”

Emma Watson: Sustainability in fashion is ‘also a feminist issue’

OHMYGOSSIP — Emma Watson says sustainability in fashion is “also a feminist issue”.
The ‘Harry Potter’ star has always been interested in sustainable fashion since the tender age of 12 and she believes it stems past more than just making sure it wasn’t fast fashion but also about workers’ rights and women’s rights.
She said: “I’ve been interested in sustainability in fashion ever since I had to properly engage with it during my time of junkets and promotional tours for Harry Potter. That started as early as 12. At school, I took a specific interest in Fair Trade fashion and renewable energy sources under the supervision of a really inspiring geography teacher. This eventually led to a trip to Ba ngladesh in 2010 with sustainable brand People Tree. It became clear to me then that sustainability in fashion is a critical issue given how the industry can have damaging impacts on the environment, on workers’ rights, and on animal welfare. It is also a feminist issue. It’s estimated around 80 per cent of the world’s garment workers are women aged between 18 and 35.”
And the 30-year-old actress and activist joined the Kering board to help the company with their sustainability plans as she feels it is an “urgent issue”.
She added to Vogue.co.uk: “As the COVID-19 crisis has shown, sustainability is an urgent issue which closely aligns to questions of justice and equality for women, black, indigenous and people of colour, and the environment. The work Kering is doing [in advancing sustainability in fashion] feels more vital than ever and I am extremely grateful to be able to join these efforts, putting my support behind a group who are demonstrating they take this responsibility seriously. I look forward to helping Kering further accelerate the pace [of its] work, building upon what it’s already doing. I am also extremely excited to collaborate with Kering’s women’s rights foundation. I’m always just excited to learn.”

Kim Kardashian West’s beauty sale faces legal woes

OHMYGOSSIP — Kim Kardashian West’s plan to sell a stake in her beauty company has been hit by legal woes.
The ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ star is keen to sell a portion of her business to Coty but Seed Beauty, who is currently a partner in Kim’s business, has got a court order to block Kim from sharing beauty secrets with Coty as it would be an “unfair competitive advantage” to let their rivals see Seed’s “most sensitive and highly confidential information”.
Seed claimed they have evidence that “strongly suggests” that Coty is using the deal to get confidential information.
Seed said in a statement: “We are pleased that the court recognised the threat posed to Seed, and we will take further action as needed to protect our rights and business agreements.”
Meanwhile, Kim’s sister Kylie Jenner recently sold a majority stake in her cosmetics company to Coty for $600 million.
The ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ star gave 51 per cent of her make-up and skincare businesses to beauty giant Coty – which owns around 77 brands including Hugo Boss, Burberry, Rimmel and Max Factor – in exchange for the lump sum.
The 22-year-old make-up guru said: “I’m excited to partner with Coty to continue to reach even more fans of Kylie Cosmetics and Kylie Skin around the world. I look forward to continuing the creativity and ingenuity for each collection that consumers have come to expect and engaging with my fans across social media. This partnership will allow me and my team to stay focused on the creation and development of each product while building the brand into an international beauty powerhouse.”
While Coty will have overall responsibility for Kylie’s company, the brunette beauty will still work alongside her team to lead creative efforts and communications.
Pierre Laubies, Coty’s CEO, said: “We are pleased to welcome Kylie into our organisation and family. Combining Kylie’s creative vision and unparalleled consumer interest with Coty’s expertise and leadership in prestige beauty products is an exciting next step in our transformation and will leverage our core strengths around fragrances, cosmetics and skincare, allowing Kylie’s brands to reach their full potential.”

Naomi Campbell cried over ‘grey’ face on 80s Vogue cover

OHMYGOSSIP — Naomi Campbell was left in tears over her “grey” face on her 1988 Vogue magazine cover.
The supermodel was so excited to pose for the June 1988 issue of Italian Vogue but she was left devastated when the make up artist said he “didn’t know she was black” and had no foundation to use on her.
Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, she said: “The make up artist said, ‘Oh, we didn’t know you were black.’ He said he didn’t have the foundation for me. He had to mix some colours that he had of foundations to make up his own colour, and that consisted of a lot of grey. When that cover came out, I just cried. I wanted so much to be on the cover of this publication … it was Italian Vogue actually. But I didn’t want to be grey.”
Meanwhile, Naomi previously admitted she missed out on magazine covers because of her skin colour.
The 50-year-old star said: “It makes me f***ing furious. Last year I was refused entry to a hotel in the south of France because of my skin colour. It’s rude. It’s wrong. And there are still certain countries where I don’t appear on the cover of magazines for that same reason.”
Naomi also praised Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of the US edition of Vogue magazine, for “fighting the powers-that-be” to get her on the cover.
She added: “Actually I think Anna Wintour has been very brave recently. She has admitted the fashion industry is too wasteful. And she also told me she had to fight with the powers-that-be to get me on the cover of US Vogue first time round, for which I am grateful.”

Cindy Crawford doesn’t take more than four minutes to get ready

OHMYGOSSIP — Cindy Crawford never takes “more than five minutes” to get ready.
The 54-year-old supermodel insists she only uses concealer, mascara and blusher to do her make up every day.
Describing her speedy beauty routine, she said: “Amazing concealer, a little of the Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic blusher, and drugstore mascara. I never take more than five minutes.”
And Cindy has also shared her haircare secrets, revealing silk pillowcases help to make a blow-dry last.
When questioned how she made a blow-dry last for days, she shared: “Silk pillowcases. And put your hair in a loose bun overnight.”
Cindy likes to organise her wardrobe in colour sections.
When asked how to organise a wardrobe, she added to Vogue: “By colour – I finally have my dream closet with an island in the middle.”
Meanwhile, Cindy’s daughter Kaia Gerber previously confessed she “steals” her mother’s vintage clothes.
She said: “We’re not the same shoe size which is upsetting because I thought I could steal all of her shoes, but I definitely take a lot of her vintage pieces – those are the most iconic.”
But although the pair exchange style tips, Cindy hasn’t given her advice on following in her runway footsteps.
Speaking about the lessons she’s learned, she confessed: “She’s never given me a catwalk lesson, I’ve definitely watched her work, but we’re not at home just walking down the hallways of our house together!”
Kaia has also been given advice from Cindy on how to succeed in the modelling industry and loves how “down to earth” her upbringing was because her famous parents made sure to “separate work and home life”.
She explained: “Don’t do anything you don’t want to do and follow your instincts, I’ve seen her do that and how far it’s gotten her. I admire how down to earth my mom is … everyone would ask me what’s it like to have Cindy Crawford as your mom, but Cindy Crawford (the supermodel) wasn’t my mom – she did a really good job of separating her work and home life.”

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s biggest beauty lesson

OHMYGOSSIP — Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was given her biggest beauty lesson by her mother, who told her makeup should “enhance” not hide.
The 33-year-old model was always told by her mom that makeup should be an addition, not something to conceal your natural looks.
She said: “She would let me wear some makeup but only if it was very natural. I remember her saying to me ‘makeup is about enhancing what you have, not hiding what you have’, and that stuck with me ever since I was a young girl. What does that mean? The sentiment of this has changed for me over the years, but what I think she meant was, don’t worry about hiding the features, don’t spend all your time masking your skin, embrace them. Focus on the good things so that has always been my approach to makeup. I always want to look and feel like myself, but just a little bit better.”
And Rosie used to watch her mother get ready, revealing it “transformed her confidence” every time she got made up.
Speaking to Emirates Woman, she added: “I always remember watching my mother get ready for work or for a night out. I’d creep into her bedroom and she would allow me to sit on the bed and watch her get ready if I was silent and didn’t ask any questions because it was her time. As a mother I totally relate, getting ready is often your own ritual, it’s a time to transform. So, I would sit and watch her. It was so intriguing for me to see her go from being my mum to a woman who was going to work for the day, or a woman who was going out for the evening. It transformed her confidence and for me as a young girl, she was the most glamorous thing I ever laid my eyes on. Then once I became a teenager, I saved up money to buy a baby blue eyeshadow or pink lipstick at the local pharmacies and begged my mum to allow me to wear makeup.”

Dior to stage resort show next month

OHMYGOSSIP — Dior will stage its resort show next month, with no audience.
The French fashion house has announced that it will go ahead with its show in Lecce, Puglia on July 22, after the original date of May 9 was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The company said in a statement: “With the stimulating exchanges between Paris and Lecce exploring the House codes having started long before the health crisis and imposition of lockdown, it was even more essential for Dior to continue these collaborations in order to support and promote the virtuosity of these artisans and artists, to ensure that the poetry and the beauty of their work is transmitted through this reinvention, and that the Dior dream continues.”
Chairman and CEO of Christian Dior couture, Pietro Beccari said: “There will always be a place for the live fashion show.
“Nothing carries emotion more than a real fashion show. A live performance is like nothing else, the electricity that we feel in that creative moment, the deadline, the adrenaline.
“That is why we wanted to do a live fashion show and why we believe there will always be a place for a live show.”
Creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri added: “Fashion week is not just important for the fashion family but also important for the city.”
Along with the fashion label’s resort 2021 show on July 22, Beccari also confirmed that Dior’s couture presentation will take place during couture week on July 6-8 and it will present a Spring collection in September.

Jodie Comer worried about doing own make-up for Talking Heads

OHMYGOSSIP — Jodie Comer did her own hair and make-up for ‘Talking Heads’.
The 27-year-old actress plays Lesley in ‘Her Big Chance’ as part of the new BBC show based on Alan Bennett’s monologues from the ’80s and ’90s and, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Jodie was forced to be her own glam squad.
She told Vogue.co.uk: “It was fun actually. We tried to make sure it had the ’80s feel while being a little more stripped back. I was a bit worried, as sometimes when you’re getting your last hair and make-up checks on set, that’s your little quiet minute to get in the zone. So I was worried that doing it myself, being self-conscious in that way – making sure I looked okay – would be a bit distracting for getting into character. But I made it all part of Lesley. We did a smoky eye.”
Jodie recently received her third BAFTA nomination for ‘Killing Eve’ and joked about what she will wear to the socially-distanced ceremony.
She said: “I guess [it will be] on a Zoom! And what’s the dress code?
“It might be quite nice. I might just do a flashy top and wear my pyjamas on the bottom. That way I can say I wore my pyjamas to the BAFTAs.”

Kelly Brook: ‘Diets shouldn’t be about deprivation’

OHMYGOSSIP — Kelly Brook says “diets shouldn’t be about deprivation”.
The 40-year-old presenter and model admitted she has gained a few pounds during the Covid-19 lockdown but insisted she is happy with her weight and knows it will be easy to get “back on track”.
Kelly told new! magazine: “Diets shouldn’t be about deprivation – they need to be sustainable after all. “[I’ve gained] a few pounds, but I’m not worried. I know I can lean on the SlimFast 3.2.1. Plan to deal with my weight loss ups and downs, so I can get back on track. It’s easy and it works.”
Kelly – who revealed in March that she had lost two stone – previously explained she trains every day to keep in shape and tries to embrace her curves.
She said: “I think people just want a quick fix and they say to me, ‘What do you do?’ I just say, ‘I train every day and I try to eat well, and then sometimes I don’t. And I use a few little filters on my app.’ I love a filter.
“I’ve always embraced my curves. I don’t starve myself, I don’t do anything drastic, I think you’ve just got to embrace your body shape.
“No matter what size you are you always struggle. Sometimes I don’t really like my boobs and having a bum because I don’t fit into the clothes I want to wear.
“We don’t really have many mirrors, we live in the countryside, I barely put make-up on, I’m always in my scruffs.”

Emily Ratajkowski dyes her hair blonde

OHMYGOSSIP — Emily Ratajkowski has dyed her hair blonde.
The ‘We Are Your Friends’ star debuted her new blonde coloured locks to her 26 million social media followers.
She simply captioned the post: “BLONDE. Thank you @kerastase_official #kerastase (sic)”
Emily also shared a series of sultry at-home pictures of her with her new hair colour as she donned a black bikini.
Meanwhile, Emily previously opened up about her haircare and skincare in lockdown, admitting her skin “freaked out” at the beginning of the quarantine period.
Taking to her Instagram story at the time, she shared: “My skin freaked out at the beginning of quarantine.
“I use this amazing snail product, and then I put a retinol on and this delicious [Dr. Loretta] serum after.”
And the 28-year-old model urged people to practice self-care whilst in lockdown and confessed she styles her hair to “stay sane” as it helps her feel relaxed and at ease.
She said: “A tip to staying sane is: showering and brushing your hair. Seriously, just do it. Maybe even put lotion on. You’ll be amazed at how much little rituals of self-care can help lift your mood.”
Emily also believes there are “no rules” during the current health crisis when it comes to routine, as she encouraged people not to “pressure” themselves to conform to a particular schedule.
She added: “Something to remember is: No rules. If one night you can’t fall asleep, fine. If one afternoon you can’t seem to stay awake, fine. Listen to your body and stop pressuring yourself. Please.”
The ‘Gone Girl’ actress has also been reading books during the new free time she has acquired thanks to the lockdown.
She said: “Another concise (albeit dense) and philosophical book I’m enjoying making my way through right now is Martin Hägglund’s This Life. Hägglund devotes a lot of his argument to the value of time and the power we have in what we chose to do with it. He also argues that the finite amount of time we have on earth is what makes life have purpose. In a moment when many of us have more time on our hands and fewer things that make us busy and easily distracted, this is a nice text to offer perspective and hope.”
