Gabrielle Union teaches daughters to embrace their Afrocentric features

OHMYGOSSIP — Gabrielle Union is raising her daughters to be “proud of their Blackness and Afrocentric features”.
The ‘Being Mary Jane’ star – who is relaunching her Flawless by Gabrielle Union haircare company on Amazon next month – felt like the odd one out when she was at school as the only black person in her class.
And it has taken her some time to learn to love her own natural locks and she wants Kaavia, 20 months – whom she has with husband Dwayne Wade – and her stepdaughter, Zaya, 13, to “celebrate” their natural hair but also feel like they can chop and change their tresses however they wish, because it’s their “own personal choice”.
She said: “Some days Kav will hand you her brush and she’ll want a little afro puff. And some days she just wants to wake up and go.
“And Zaya went from pink hair to blonde. If you want to switch it up every day, great. What you do with your hair is your own personal choice. For me, the focus is on healthy hair, not on what you do with it.”
Gabrielle explained that “more folks are going to lean into really celebrating how we are, naturally, because it’s all dope and amazing and beautiful and there’s no one right way or wrong way to exist.”
The 47-year-old actress says learning to love your “blackness and Afrocentric features” starts with “self-love”.
She said: “Your hair is a part of you and it’s an extension of you, but it has to start with self-love and pride in your Blackness and Afrocentric features, whether that be your hair, your nose, your lips or your body.”
The ‘L.A.’s Finest’ star also spoke about how ridiculous it is when she’s called out on social media when she posts pictures of Kaavia with her natural, untouched curls.
She added to People: “I’ll see comments and people are like, ‘Why is her hair never done?’ And I’m like, ‘She is a year and a half.’ I don’t want to give her a complex about what is an acceptable style.”

Lady Gaga wants her makeup to ‘feel like an emotion’

OHMYGOSSIP — Lady Gaga likes her makeup looks to “feel like an emotion”.
The ‘Stupid Love’ hitmaker isn’t a fan of spending hours on her makeup, as her makeup artist Sarah Tanno has explained Gaga loves “the grit” of keeping her look quick and easy.
Sarah said: “Gaga likes it better when I put on her makeup in five minutes with two products than when I spend an hour on it. She likes the grit; she likes it to feel like an emotion.”
The artist has been working with the ‘Sour Candy’ singer since 2009, and Sarah is even the global artistry director of Gaga’s makeup brand, Haus Laboratories, which launched last year.
She added to InStyle magazine: “Gaga and I have the same aesthetic and feeling toward beauty. It comes from a place of story- telling and of empowerment.”
Meanwhile, Haus Laboratories launched a new eyeshadow palette in May to coincide with the release of Gaga’s sixth studio album, ‘Chromatica’.
The palette was named after her single, ‘Stupid Love’, and featured 18 vivid shades, including several shades of blue, two shades of pink, and a range of earthy brown tones.
Speaking about the palette at the time, Sarah had said: “The matte colours are pressed a little harder so they don’t flake out on your face, while the shimmery ones are pressed a little looser. All of formulas are so velvety and pigmented that you could pick this up and apply it with your finger if you want a more edgy, bold kick to it.
“I want to encourage people that it’s okay to wear colour, and it doesn’t mean you have to have a really bold eye with a neutral mouth; I want to push you to do the opposite. I don’t think it’s all about the rules, it’s more about breaking them.”

Tallulah Willis wants inclusive fashion brand

OHMYGOSSIP — Tallulah Willis wants her fashion brand to be accessible to all.
The 26-year-old actress launched her Wyllis clothing line in January, and has said the brand was created with three “non-negotiables” in mind – size inclusivity, accessible price points, and a fundamental belief that fashion can be used as a vehicle for advocacy.
Tallulah’s first full collection launched this week with sizes running up to a 3X, and the star has already said she intends on supplying even more sizes in the future.
She said: “I believe the only reason somebody should not want to wear one of my pieces is that they don’t like it – and it’s fine if they don’t, by the way. I think the way I’m looking at the summer collection is as the appetiser, and there’s so much more of a meal to dive into if our customers and our wearers stay with us.”
For her recently launched collection, Tallulah has teamed up with the Loveland Foundation – which was established by activist Rachel Cargle and provides therapy and mental health support for communities of colour, with a particular emphasis on Black women and girls – to donate 10 percent of all profits.
She added: “I think Rachel is unbelievable. She’s a powerhouse and a voice that is so crucial right now. I was very lucky to get on a call with one of their head team members and find out more about what they do, and it just blew my mind. I feel so grateful they are open to working with us.”
And the actress also spoke about her brand’s rocky start, which was hindered by the coronavirus pandemic.
Tallulah was supposed to market Wyllis on social media throughout the spring, but felt it was “inappropriate” to do so during a “time of massive grief”.
Speaking to Vogue, she said: “It’s been a real education. It was already an unprecedented thing for me to start this project and enter the fashion world, but I made the decision to pause promotion on social media for a few months at the height of the pandemic. It just felt inappropriate to be pushing a product during a time of massive grief.
“I think the stops and starts have made us stronger as a brand, and it helped me gain a deeper understanding of what I’m really trying to achieve here.”

Leslie Mann owns 25-year-old loose powder

OHMYGOSSIP — Leslie Mann still owns the Christian Dior loose powder she bought 25 years ago.
The 48-year-old actress has confessed she purchased the luxury makeup product when she was 21, and although she doesn’t remember what price tag was attached, she knows it must have been expensive because she still owns and uses it to this day.
Asked if she remembers the first “crazy-expensive” beauty product she ever bought, she said: “Yes. I must have been 21, and I got Christian Dior loose powder. I don’t know how much it was, but I still have it. It’s in my hand right now. Is that weird? The gross thing is that I’ve used it within the last year.”
And when told “we all have those favourites we can’t part with”, she added: “But are they over 20 years old? I have loose powder that is 25 years old. I definitely have you beat.”
In recent months, Leslie has been opting for simple makeup looks because she’s been spending time at home amid the coronavirus pandemic, meaning she isn’t having to get glam.
And the ‘Knocked Up’ star certainly isn’t touching her hair during lockdown, as she knows she’ll have a disaster.
She told InStyle magazine: “I’m in the middle. I’m not doing anything to my hair because it’s a nightmare. There’s nothing I can do but pull it back. Now I have greys.
“My colourist, Tracey Cunningham, sent out little kits that tone down greys, but the colour only lasts for two weeks. It’s made my hair really dark, and the greys don’t grab the colour like the rest of my hair, so it doesn’t look great. But Tracey knows better than to send me real hair dye. About every three years I think I can do my hair; I dye it and it always turns orange. But I forget after every single time and do it again.”

Gabrielle Union wants her haircare line to be inclusive

OHMYGOSSIP — Gabrielle Union doesn’t want her haircare range to “exclude” anybody.
The ‘Being Mary Jane’ star is set to launch her Flawless by Gabrielle Union range of haircare products on August 3, and has said she’s committed to making sure the line stays affordable and accessible for all.
She said: “You’re actually an a****** if you create something that helps you and write it out to exclude the vast majority of folks. There is a way of doing business without gouging, and we’re always looking to challenge ourselves and do right by our community.”
All of the 13 products in Gabrielle’s brand have been made to fit every hair type, and they are all priced at under $10.
Gabrielle first tried to launch her brand back in 2017, but opted to press pause on the venture because at the time she was going through IVF treatment which left her with bald spots that made launching her products feel “disingenuous”.
She added: “I was coming off of years of back-to-back IVF treatments that left me with bald spots on my head. It was the worst time to launch a hair-care line, when I was missing chunks of my own. It just felt disingenuous.
“At the time, we created something special, but my values weren’t centred. My most authentic voice was telling me to pause.”
Now, the star has teamed up with her hairstylist Larry Sims – who has part ownership in Flawless – for the relaunch, and is excited to “reclaim” her company.
She told Refinery29: “Taking this break allowed me to have some time to prioritise how I wanted this brand to be. My first order of business was wanting to reclaim my company and become 100 percent Black-owned, Black-led, and Black-marketed.
“There was no way I would create a hair-care line without the man who was literally in the trenches with me. Not only is he my hairstylist, but he’s one of my best friends who was drying my tears and helping me grow my hair back.”

Khloe Kardashian accused of selling a dress leant to her

OHMYGOSSIP — Khloe Kardashian has been accused of selling a dress that was leant to her.
Fashion designer Christian Cowan took to Instagram to slam the ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ star, after claiming runway samples that he leant her were up for sale on her website, Kardashian Kloset.
In a now-expired Instagram story post, he fumed to the reality star: “@khloekardashian why are my runway samples I loaned you being sold on your website? We emailed 3 times and had no response. (sic)”
However, the whole thing is just a misunderstanding, with sources claiming that Khloe was not aware it was leant.
A source told the New York Post’s Page Six column of the dress in question: “The dress was gifted to her through her stylist without a mention of a loan and it was never asked to be returned.”
Back in 2019, Khloe and her famous siblings launched Kardashian Kloset, where they sold their own designer outfits for much more affordable prices.
Their website reads: “Kardashian Kloset is the first luxury designer resale site featuring the Kardashian Jenner family’s fabulous and fun clothing!
“Each authentic item has been hand selected and is now available exclusively for the public to purchase here.”
Currently featured on the website are items of clothing from brands including Balmain, Alexander McQueen, Tom Ford, Jimmy Choo, Sergio Rossi and Gucci.
One of the priciest items on the current site including a Hermes Birkin 35 black handbag, which is for sale for over $67,000, whilst there is also a Hermes Shark Bolide bag, which is up for an impressive $23,500.

Lili Reinhart going makeup free in lockdown

OHMYGOSSIP — Lili Reinhart has been going makeup-free in lockdown.
With the coronavirus pandemic forcing many people to remain in their homes, the ‘Riverdale’ star has enjoyed having the chance to let her skin “breathe” without makeup, especially when she wears it for 16 hours a day on set.
She said of her lockdown beauty routine: “I’ve just been enjoying letting my skin breathe and do its thing. I think it’s important to go all-natural when you can, especially for me since I’m typically wearing makeup for 16 hours a day. It’s been a lovely little change for me to go makeup-free at home.”
And the 23-year-old actress has also “learned the importance” of skincare and making skin a “foundation” for a beauty look during the lockdown period.
She added: “I’ve learned the importance of skincare, and that your skin care comes first. The prettiest makeup that you can achieve is using your skin as the foundation. I didn’t always have a good base to work off of and I dealt with acne scars, so I relied on makeup to cover my marks. On the set [of ‘Riverdale’], I did learn how to cover my breakouts. But at the end of the day, I realised that acne is acne, and makeup is not a magic wand that will make it disappear.”
When she does wear makeup, Lili prefers a more natural look as she feels it is easier for her to achieve herself at home.
Speaking to HarpersBazaar.com, she shared: “I appreciate a more natural look because it’s what I can personally achieve.
“CoverGirl has allowed me to embrace the real side of myself and my natural philosophy when it comes to makeup.”

Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter joins her for new fashion collection

OHMYGOSSIP — Gwyneth Paltrow enlisted her daughter to model her new G. Label Core Collection clothing line.
The ‘Goop’ founder has launched a new clothing collection and her 16-year-old daughter Apple – who she has with her former husband Coldplay’s Chris Martin – has modelled the new clothes alongside her mother in pieces which Gwyneth has deemed “comfortable” but “cool and elegant”.
She said: “It’s what G. Label does best. Pieces that feel comfortable but look really cool and elegant.”
Speaking about the pair of jeans and skirt, which was modelled by her and her daughter Apple, she added: “We made both of these retro styles out of vintage-soft denim that’s got a bit of stretch but still holds you in. The jeans are ’90s, the skirt is straight out of the ’70s, and the looks are as enduring as it gets. Heels, sandals, or barefoot like my daughter, Apple- you can wear them with anything.”
The collection also features a bodysuit, which Gwyneth has described as “flattering” and a “great base layer” to team with a multitude of different outfits.
She added of the V-neck bodysuit: “Everything about this bodysuit is fantastic. The deep V is sexy, the racerback is flattering, and it’s a great base layer underneath anything – especially these wide-leg pants. They’re based on an old designer pair I wore years ago and are just beyond cool.”

The ‘Toxic’ hitmaker took to social media to admit she had spent “so much time in hair and makeup chairs to look flawless” that now she much prefers to wear less makeup and show off her natural beauty.
She wrote on Instagram: “Who would have thunk it ?!?! After all this time in my life I’m just now learning that no makeup is the way to go …. I think a natural look is the way to go …. it makes you look waaaay younger and so much better … !!!! Pssss YES …. I know I’m wearing mascara in this … !!!! (sic)”
Meanwhile, the 38-year-old singer – who suffered a much-publicised breakdown in 2007 – revealed she has been working with a fitness coach to arch her back as she believes her lack of confidence has caused her to “slouch” so she’s doing her best to improve her posture.
She wrote on Instagram: “Body language is everything! The way you speak to yourself and carry yourself can effect your mood …. I have self esteem problems so I slouch … These poses help me everyday become stronger and it’s quite fun doing them. I feel so different everytime I do it, cause I’m not used to the feeling of my back being out !!!!(sic)”
Britney has also turned to yoga in a bid to help her learn to trust.

Tiffany Haddish shaves her head

OHMYGOSSIP — Tiffany Haddish has shaved her head.
The ‘Girls Trip’ actress has shown off her brand new hair do on her Instagram, where she revealed the best part of having no hair was that when water hits her head “it feels like kisses from God”.
She wrote on Instagram: “Just Loving my new look thought I’d share it with y’all. The best part is when water hits my head it feels like kisses from God. #sheready for more of Gods Love! (sic)”
Her friends flooded the comments with support for her new do.
Her pal Kelly Rowland shared alongside a red heart emoji: “She don’t need no hair, she is gorgeously gorgeous! (sic)”
Whilst actor Bill Dawes added in the comments section of her post: “You can pull it off beautifully with those eyes and that smile, Tiff. Plus, now you can have any hair in the world you want at any time without needing a wig cap. It’s the best! (sic)”
Tina Lawson – Beyonce’s mother – also wrote alongside the photograph: “You look absolutely gorgeous !! I love it (sic)”
And Kate Hudson – who famously shaved her hair – branded it “freedom”, writing: Best feeling ever … #Freedom (sic)”
Meanwhile, Tiffany previously confessed her beauty regime used to be “wash ass, wash face, moisturise”.
She said: “Before I was famous, my beauty regimen was: Wash your ass, wash your face, moisturise. It was simple because I didn’t wear make-up every day. Now I’m shooting movies and TV shows, constantly putting make-up on my face, constantly being outside. Oh, my gosh, I break out so bad. I’d never had acne until I started doing a lot of movies. You’ve got to have the right stuff to dig that makeup out of your pores. I use that Tatcha Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil. After filming ‘Girls Trip’ – they put that heavy makeup on you and you’ve been sweating all day in that New Orleans weather – I was breaking out for a whole year.”

Beverly Johnson was ‘the only Black girl’ on set

OHMYGOSSIP — Beverly Johnson was always “the only Black girl” on fashion shoots.
The supermodel has recalled being the only Black woman on a number of sets and even horrifyingly remembered how when she got in the pool on the set of a fashion shoot, everyone was asked to get out and the pool drained at the five star hotel.
She said: “When I started my modelling career in the 1970s, I wanted the top modelling agent. That was Eileen Ford. She said, ‘You’ll never be on the cover of Vogue magazine.’ So I moved to the rival Wilhelmina agency. I got the cover. I had worked for it and prayed for it, and now I had to honour it. What you have to realise is that I was the only Black girl on every shoot. Once in the 1970s, we were at a five-star hotel. I got into the pool. And all of a sudden, the editor came out and made everybody get out. They drained the pool. Twenty years later, one of the models told me it was because of me. But I had blocked it out. In order to survive, I would make myself not react. Like Teflon.”
And the 67-year-old supermodel revealed that behind the scenes, it was much the same too – with few, if any, Black makeup artists or Black hairstylists.
She added to People magazine: “Back then, there were no Black makeup artists or Black hairstylists. The people they hired had no idea what to do with my hair. So I’d go to the bathroom and wet my hair or slick it back with Vaseline and put it in a chignon.
Same with make-up – I’d do my own. At one shoot, the makeup artist was so stoned, his hands were shaking. I went to my editor and said, ‘I don’t want this guy around my eyes with a Black pencil.’ I recommended Joey Mills, a Black makeup artist. They couldn’t believe I could book someone so easily. He was extraordinary and went to do makeup for women of many skin tones. You have to have champions.”

Kaia Gerber has ‘faced a lot of struggles’ in her industry

OHMYGOSSIP — Kaia Gerber has “faced a lot of struggles” in her industry.
The 18-year-old model has been in the fashion industry for two years, despite her young age, and admits there are so many “moving parts” and “different people” that she doesn’t want to compare herself to others in fashion too.
Speaking about her time in the industry, she said: “There are so many moving parts, especially being part of an industry with so many different people that you face a lot of struggles. You have to wake up every day and choose that happiness for yourself, not for someone else and not based on anyone else.”
And Kaia – who is the daughter of supermodel Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber – insists what most people see of her and others’ life is the “highlight reel”.
Speaking to Vogue magazine: “What you see in the media most times is the highlight reel. It’s okay not to be okay sometimes. It’s okay to be sad. It’s okay to have bad days. Those aren’t the days that we’re putting on Instagram.”
Meanwhile, Kaia has been striving to remain “healthy on the inside” during the coronavirus pandemic.
She shared: “I’ve just really been taking the time to make sure I’m healthy on the inside. In our minds, we keep going and going, and you don’t really have time to reflect on how your body is feeling and check back in. I’ve been very fortunate to use this time to check in with myself internally and that’s just been a really big part of my routine.”

Gisele Bundchen wants to plant 40,000 trees for her birthday

OHMYGOSSIP — Gisele Bundchen wants to plant 40,000 trees for her birthday.
The supermodel is turning 40 on Monday (20.07.20) and wants to give back to the planet by planting the huge number of trees in the Amazon rainforest to mark the milestone.
She wrote on Instagram: “As some of you know, my birthday is coming up on July 20th. And it’s not just any birthday! I can’t believe I am turning 40! I feel like a whole new chapter of my life is starting, and I wanted to celebrate it in a meaningful way, so I decided to plant 40,000 trees. I have been planting trees for different projects for years, as I feel that this is the best way I know to give back to Mother Earth. This year, to celebrate my birthday, my family and I had planned to plant trees in the Amazon rainforest in Brazil but, as we all know, that is not possible right now. Then I had another thought! What if I could come up with a way for others to help me plant trees there? I’ve already talked to my family and my friends – and they will all turn their gifts into trees. That way, we can all help give something back to our planet. In case you also feel inspired to give back to the Earth, you can join me and plant a tree in the Amazon rainforest.”
And it clearly runs in the family as Gisele previously revealed her 10-year-old son wants charity donations for his birthday.
She said: “One story that I can remember is when we were at the beach and my son Benny found plastic in the ocean. He was so upset, and I explained to him that this is what happens after we discard things; they go to landfills and sometimes end up in the ocean. For the past couple of years, he decided that he did not want presents from his friends at his birthday party. Instead, he would like if they could donate to organisations that help endangered species.”

Princess Diana ‘most beautiful royal of all time’

OHMYGOSSIP — Princess Diana is the “most beautiful royal of all time”, according to ancient Greece’s ‘Golden Ratio’ formula.
The late royal – who died in 1997 in a car accident in Paris, France – obtained the highest score when Harley Street surgeon Dr Julian De Silva ran the Golden Ratio analysis, which determines physical perfection by comparing features with a facial mapping technique.
He told the Daily Mail’s Femail: “Diana, [Duchess] Meghan and Kate [Duchess Catherine] are all very beautiful women.
“But when measured against the Greeks’ Golden Ratio of physical perfection, Princess Diana comes out on top.
“She was several points ahead of Meghan and Kate and just pipped the stunningly attractive Queen Rania [of Jordan] to the title of most beautiful royal of all time.”
The Golden Ratio relies on symmetry to determine beauty and when taking measurements, “the length of the ear must be equal to the length of the nose and the width of an eye should be equal to the distance between the eyes”.
Dr De Silva added: “Princess Diana was a very narrow winner – there was less than 1 per cent between her score and those of Queen Rania of Jordan in second and Princess Grace who was a very close third.
“Diana scored highly for her face shape, the width of her nose, her brow area, her forehead and her eyebrows – which all got the top scores.
“Her lowest scores were for her chin and lips. Her lips are a little thin and ill-defined and her chin is less classical than some of the other women.”

Five ‘most beautiful’ Royal women – Data courtesy of the Centre For Advanced Facial Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery.
1. Princess Diana – 89.05 per cent
2. Queen Rania of Jordan – 88.9 per cent
3. Grace Kelly, Princess of Monaco – 88.8 per cent
4. Duchess of Sussex – Meghan Markle – 87.4 per cent
5. Duchess of Cambridge – 86.8 per cent

Rihanna’s Fenty Skin to launch July 31

OHMYGOSSIP — Rihanna’s Fenty Skin is launching on July 31.
The 32-year-old singer is branching out into skincare and will release her eagerly-anticipated first collection at the end of the month.
Although Rihanna has yet to make an official announcement, beauty news Instagram account Trendmood discovered Fenty Skin’s official website and social media accounts.
A welcome message on the website states that the brand: “Launches July 31 exclusively on Fentyskin.com” and invites fans to “Sign up now for early access on July 29.”
Rihanna confirmed she was working on a skincare brand earlier this year, when she said: “Skincare, it’s the truth. It either works or it doesn’t. There’s nowhere to hide.”
She filed a trademark for Fenty Skin in 2019 with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and it reportedly covers: “medicated and non-medicated skincare, soap, body care and personal care products and related accessories such as kits, tools and applicators”.
Rihanna’s trademarks for non-medicated skin preparations include products named Buff Ryder, Instant Reset, Fat Water, Flash Nap and Hydra Vizor.
Fenty Beauty first launched in 2017 and was lauded for its inclusiveness with 40 foundation shades.
Speaking previously about Rihanna’s beauty credentials, model Cara Delevingne said: “Rihanna is teaching teens how to just get it right. It’s weird, I feel like that awkward teenage stage is over and that I was one of the last to go through it.
“I remember when I was a kid, I was so bad – all I used to do was just cake on foundation and eyeliner. Now I look at teenagers today and I’m like ‘What?!’ Less and less teenagers are looking like that. I see them and I’m like: “How do they do that make-up? It’s so hard!”
