Saint Laurent and Anthony Vaccarello purchase vintage collection

OHMYGOSSIP — Saint Laurent has bought a 4,000 piece collection of the brand’s own vintage clothing.
The brand and its creative director Anthony Vaccarello purchased designer Olivier Châtenet’s complete collection of vintage Saint Laurent, which includes pieces designed between 1966 and 1985 and is mainly comprised of items from the Saint Laurent Rive Gauche ready-to-wear label.
Vaccarello said in a statement: “Monsieur Yves Saint Laurent established an extremely valuable heritage which is an endless source of inspiration.”
Items from the collection include dresses, suits, coats, knitwear, shoes, accessories and some haute couture outfits.
One of the most exciting pieces from the collection is a beaded dress that formerly belonged to the Duchess of Windsor.
Explaining why he decided to sell the collection, Châtenet told WWD: “I like the idea of this collection having a life and being useful, not just something I enjoy on my own. I’ve had lots of fun putting it together over the last 30 years and showing it, with exhibitions in Paris, Hong Kong and Shanghai, and it wasn’t about ownership. I still love it as much, even if it no longer belongs to me.
“To keep it alive, you have to continue to enrich it and come up with new projects, and it’s a very time-intensive activity that took up all my energy, between keeping an inventory, maintenance, stocking, documentation and so forth. I needed to hand the baton to the most solid and relevant partner.
“The house of Saint Laurent and Anthony Vaccarello have full freedom to preserve and exploit it as they see fit. I have the greatest trust in them. Their motivation is complete and sincere.”
The collection was sold for an undisclosed sum and will join the existing Saint Laurent archive at the company’s headquarters in Paris.

Gillette Venus partners with Animal Crossing on skinclusive campaign

OHMYGOSSIP — Gillette Venus has collaborated with ‘Animal Crossing’ on a new “skinclusive” line.
The brand is launching the Summer Skinclusive Line by Venus in the popular video game and has partnered with digital designer Nicole Cuddihy, to create new avatar designs, as part of its ‘My Skin My Way’ campaign.
Players can add acne, vitiligo, freckles, cellulite, psoriasis, arm hair, tattoos, scars, burns, stretch marks, mastectomies, pigmentation, prosthesis, eczema, nevi, rosacea and wrinkles, among a host of other features, to their characters.
They can also choose from various body types and skin tones.
Anthony van Dijk, Senior Brand Director of Venus North America said: “In a world where there are so many explicit and implicit rules on how women should show or feel about their skin, skin-inclusivity and positive representation matters. The purpose of our ‘My Skin My Way’ campaign is to ensure that we’re putting out responsible imagery that represents reality and celebrates all types of skin, while also spotlighting the diverse skin stories of women all around the world.
“With ‘Animal Crossing’, we saw a unique opportunity to meet women where they are this summer by providing new ways to make gaming a more inclusive space, while also enabling them to gather virtually, safely on a beach to celebrate summer and skin inclusivity.”
Cuddihy added: “While momentum for diversity in design is building, there are many areas where progress feels slow. The fact that I could add scars and wrinkles to warriors or outlaws, but not characters in less combat-driven games felt discouraging. With these designs, I hope that all women in ‘Animal Crossing’ can find comfort and representation in this carefully developed collection. I drew inspiration from those in my own life to ensure the designs I was creating accurately represented their skin stories in a way that feels real, celebratory and beautiful.”

Bella Hadid calls for inclusion in modelling

OHMYGOSSIP — Bella Hadid has called for more diversity backstage at fashion shows.
The 23-year-old supermodel insisted that, while there are black models on the runway, there aren’t enough people working behind the scenes who understand how to work with “all different skin types”.
She told Elle.com: “Going into the next season, my fear is having to see another one of my Black girlfriends get her hair burned by a hair straightener, or do her own makeup because the make-up artist hasn’t been trained to work with all different skin types.”
Bella admitted a number of her black friends still feel unaccepted in the fashion industry despite being hired for their “individuality”.
She continued: “I hate that some of my Black friends feel the way they do. Even if they’re sitting front row, they’re not feeling accepted.
“Our industry is supposed to be about expression and individuality, but the reality is that [many people] still discriminate because of exactly [those differences].”
Now the brunette beauty is calling for younger generations to stand up for inequality by using her platform to connect to people around the world.
She added: “I have so much responsibility to use my platform for good, especially as I get older. I want young girls and boys to know that it is okay to use your voice and demand justice for what is important to you.
“I want them to know it’s okay to be empathetic and gentle, but to be strong and speak your truth at the same time.”
Meanwhile, Bella has reflected on modelling after the coronavirus crisis and is “eager” to start shooting again.
She said: “I’ve had a lot of time to reflect during my quarantine, and I’m really eager to get back to work and make art again.
“Moving into the next season, I hope we can find a proactive way to move forward in a safe, healthy way. I think that our sets will be smaller and more intimate, which will be nice for a change.
“We’ll also need to be aware of not using the same make-up brushes at shows, and implement many other health regulations to keep people safe. There is a lot to learn and a lot to do, but I feel with the right people, fashion can change everything.”

Marcus Rashford lands Vogue cover

OHMYGOSSIP — Marcus Rashford has been awarded the cover of Vogue thanks to his anti-child poverty campaign.
The 22-year-old footballer joins model Adwoa Aboah on the front page to head up the UK fashion bible’s ‘Activism Now’ issue, thanks to his successful campaign for free school meals for vulnerable children over the summer holidays.
After relying on school breakfast clubs and free school meals as a child with a working mum on minimum wage, Marcus vowed to help those in a similar position as soon as he was able to.
He told Vogue: “The system was not built for families like mine to succeed. This was something I had experienced. That my mum had experienced.
“That we had experienced as a family. I always swore to my mum that if one day I was in a position to help, then I would, and an opportunity presented itself.
“I had been working with FareShare since before the lockdown so had seen first-hand how parents had become reliant on foodbanks and the support of the food vouchers.”
Marcus raised over £20 million for more than three million children nationwide who would otherwise go hungry during the lockdown, and continues to work hard for kids during the school holidays.
However, he knew he would risk his career as many sportstars have kept silent on politics in the past for fears of losing their fan base.
But the Manchester United forward was determined to share his childhood story to help others in need.
He added: “Plenty of athletes and clubs work within the communities. You might not always hear about it but that doesn’t mean they aren’t. With me, it has been instilled in me from a young age that I would use my voice to help others and I have a great team around me who have always encouraged me to just be myself. On a sensitive subject like this, being myself was enough, because nobody could tell my childhood story better than me.”

Selena Gomez to launch Rare Beauty next month

OHMYGOSSIP — Selena Gomez will launch her Rare Beauty line on September 3.
The ‘Lose You To Love Me’ hitmaker has finally announced the launch date for her long-awaited makeup line, Rare Beauty, which will be available online and in Sephora stores next month.
Writing on Instagram, Selena revealed: “I’m SO excited to finally share that @RareBeauty will be launching September 3rd only at @Sephora, @SephoraCanada, @SephoraMx and RareBeauty.com. I’ve had so much fun creating everything and can’t wait for y’all to try it all! I hope you love it as much as I do! (sic)”
And in another post shared to the brand’s Instagram account, the 28-year-old singer opened up on the empowering message behind her line.
She said in a video: “I live in a time where it’s all about face. It’s all about makeup. It’s all about how you look in a lot of ways and that can be exciting and fun but at the same time it can just be a bit dangerous.
“So I wanted people to feel like makeup is something you can enjoy. It’s not something that you need. And I felt like that’s kind of who I am. I am very authentic. I’m very real with my fans. Any girl, woman, boy, whoever they are can just feel beautiful exactly how they are.”
Selena hopes the products in her range – which have yet to be unveiled – will help people embrace their individuality and imperfections.
She added: “There is so much beauty in imperfection and my hope is that all of you can see that. I just want us to stop comparing ourselves to people and to start embracing who we are.”
Rare Beauty is set to focus on inclusivity, and the ‘Wolves’ singer previously said her brand – which has been two years in the making – will feature 48 different shades of foundation and concealer to suit all skin tones.

Gwyneth Paltrow invests in clean make-up brand Saie

OHMYGOSSIP — Gwyneth Paltrow has invested in clean make-up brand Saie.
The 47-year-old actress and goop founder is one of a number of backers who have invested in Saie, with others including Unilever Ventures, a previous investor, as well as G9 Ventures and Stage 1 Fund.
Saie founder, blogger Laney Crowell, told WWD: “We launched exclusively with Goop, so when Gwyneth personally expressed interest it was obviously so flattering and really exciting because she really understands clean and health. Those things are so important to us.
“The whole direction of our glow products is this isn’t your blinding highlighter, it’s not strobing, it’s a subtle, beautiful look that coincidentally looks amazing on Zoom calls.”
And the company has launched an innovative text message service, where fans can seek advice on products.
Crowell explained: It’s so cute, it’s the highlight of all of our days. Amy Schumer put on Instagram that you could text her. I saw that post on Instagram and I was like, ‘That’s so cool.’ I’ve always been obsessed with this idea of frictionless communication. When I saw that post that Amy Schumer did, I was like, ‘I want to be able to text with my community, too.’ So we literally went out and bought a phone, and got a phone number, and you can text us.”

‘She’s a master of the craft and a phenomenal mentor’: Beyonce praised by longtime stylist

OHMYGOSSIP — Beyoncé is a “phenomenal mentor” who always encourages her team to take risks.
Zerina Akers, who has been Beyoncé’s stylist since 2014, collaborated with the star on the Disney Plus project ‘Black Is King’ and admitted that although Beyoncé “pushes” her team, it is always worth the effort.
She told British Vogue: “Beyoncé pushes us to create something and, when you think you’ve got it, she pushes you further – often within a small time frame. I come out of every experience so much stronger, because she allows us to be free to take risks and make explosive visual experiences. She’s a master of the craft and a phenomenal mentor who always enhances and elevates the project.”
While ‘Black Is King’ highlights the work of Black creatives, Akers revealed Beyoncé, 38, also wanted to pay tribute to white designers who have supported her throughout her career, including Riccardo Tisci and Pierpaolo Piccioli.
Akers explained: “[We weren’t] bound by the limitations of what the industry thinks is fashion. To be able to give [an emerging talent] the same visibility as a large corporation is invaluable.
“I wanted to reference different cultures, traditions and tribes, but to have the freedom to create fantasy, for people to be able to escape into a new world.”
Referring to Riccardo Tisci and Pierpaolo Piccioli, she added: “We want to continue to build relationships with these companies.”

Daisy Edgar-Jones: ‘Marianne and I have similar approaches to make-up’

OHMYGOSSIP — Daisy Edgar-Jones says she and her ‘Normal People’ character have similar approaches to make-up.
The 22-year-old actress revealed her cosmetics style is similar to that of her alter-ego Marianne Sheridan but the fictional character is a little more experimental.
She told British Vogue: “I think [Marianne and I] have similar approaches [to our make-up], and I loved how experimental she was with her make-up at Trinity College. She played a lot with eyeliner and eyeshadow. I’ve always been a big fan of eye make-up and absolutely love Hourglass’s Scattered Light Glitter Eyeshadows – they’re easy to apply [and offer] maximum impact.”
Although Daisy adores a dramatic cat-eye, she admitted she doesn’t always get the look right.
She explained: “Pardon the pun, but my secret is just winging it. Sometimes it goes perfectly, sometimes you end up with a flick that spans your whole head. Finding the right eyeliner really helps.”
And Daisy has become a huge fan of primer, explaining: “I’ve learned that primer is everything – for both your face and your eyes. I’ve also learned how important powder is in keeping your make-up from sliding off your face and onto the floor at the end of a long day.”

Gwyneth Paltrow gets beauty tips from mother

OHMYGOSSIP — Gwyneth Paltrow takes beauty tips from her mother.
The 47-year-old actress and goop founder says she and her mom Blythe Danner, 77, both suffer from dry skin and Gwyneth has picked up Blythe’s tip of wearing night cream during the day as it is more nourishing.
Speaking about the new GOOPGENES skin range, Gwyneth said: “I got this trick from my mom – using night cream during the day; we both have dry skin. So I wanted a cream that was that nourishing, one that I could use night and day and my skin would just keep reaping the benefits. This one leaves my skin so soft that I just keep touching it all day.
“It helps with fine lines and wrinkles for sure. It’s actually really a challenge to get a clean formula that’s this rich and nourishing and with results like this. I love it so much.”
And actresses Gwyneth and Blythe are both beauty minimalists.
Blythe explained: “When you’re acting and on sets and people are putting stuff on you all the time, it gets boring.”
In a video chat on goop’s website, filmed by her daughter Apple Martin, 16, Gwyneth added: “I always had a very minimal routine, but I got that idea of always having moisturiser from you mom, because you have dry skin, and I have dry skin. I feel like you are so natural with stuff, like you never fussed in the bathroom. You never had a big getting-ready routine.”

Heidi Klum has gained weight in lockdown

OHMYGOSSIP — Heidi Klum can’t fit in her “favourite jeans any more” after gaining weight in lockdown.
The 47-year-old German supermodel admits she has relaxed her exercise regime whilst isolating at her Los Angeles home with her family during the coronavirus pandemic and has allowed herself to indulge in her favourite foods.
Speaking to the Sunday Express newspaper, she said: “I don’t fit in my favourite jeans any more. I’ve eaten a little more and exercised a little less than I normally would, so I’ll have to step it up to fit back into them. Or I just have to get a bigger pair – and I’m fine with that as well.”
Heidi insists she’s happy to be a little bigger at the moment and has urged women everywhere to not compare themselves to other people, especially the images posted on social media.
She said: “Don’t compare yourself to other people.
“If social media is making that hard, step away from it for a little bit.
“I also think that having a healthy relationship with food can help your self-esteem.
“For example, if I eat bad things I’ll feel sluggish and then I don’t want to do anything. But if I’ve had a good meal I feel fuelled and charged and I feel better about myself.”
Heidi has four children, 16-year-old Leni, Henry, 14, Johan 13, and Lou, 10, with her ex-husband Seal, and she admits it’s been a challenge thinking of new ways to keep them busy.
One activity they have been doing together has been growing vegetables together, but Heidi is sure that her kids are getting bored with eating their own produce now.
The catwalk star – who is married to musician Tom Kaulitz – said: “The kids are getting tired of eating squash now. I’ve tried squash bread, squash muffins, squash soup, roasted squash… It just won’t stop growing.”
Heidi has been abiding by LA’s strict lockdown rules and has only left her home in the past few months to shoot ‘America’s Got Talent’, on which she sits on the judging panel.

Marc Jacobs: Lila Moss was like a kid in a candy store on shoot

OHMYGOSSIP — Marc Jacobs says Lila Moss and the other models who appeared in his new perfume campaign were like “kids in a candy store” when they were shown the wardrobe.
The 57-year-old American fashion designer recruited 17-year-old Lila – the daughter of supermodel Kate Moss – Alek Wek and Mei Kawajiri to star in the advertising campaign for his latest scent Perfect and he loved standing back and watching the trio pick their own outfits from the huge array of garments on offer.
In an interview with Refinery29, Marc – who worked with stylist Katie Grand on the campaign – said: “There was just this huge, huge wardrobe room, and it was like kids in a candy store.
“Everybody just gravitated towards what they wanted. Alek Wek went directly for this, like, fluid jumpsuit from the ’70s collection we did many years ago.”
The styling stage for the campaign took three days and Marc admits collections from the past were a big influence on the final shots and footage.
He said: “We pulled some clothes from past collections that we thought were colourful, and then we also picked a rack of our vintage archive, clothes that we always looked at and always go back to, like the slip dresses.
“Everybody just did their own thing, and it was great. It was just very alive with that desire to express oneself and to feel good about oneself as you are.
“I feel like it expresses self-expression and creativity, and it validates this idea of style and individuality.”

Stella said: “‘I think in order to have sustainability in fashion, you need to think in advance.
“You need to think about everything in a circular way and in its entirety and at the end of the day a lot of it is about waste, you know, ‘Waste not, want not, do unto the planet as you would have them do unto you’.
“We have to stop and consider the waste, it’s spiralled out of control.”
