Jason Wu launching Brizo kitchen collection

OHMYGOSSIP — Jason Wu is launching a kitchen collection with Brizo.
The 37-year-old fashion designer has joined forces with the luxury kitchen and bath company for a new collection of kitchen products, including a pull-down kitchen faucet, pull-down prep faucet, bar faucet and soap/lotion dispenser.
A statement on Brizo’s website stated: “Since 2007, Brizo has partnered with Jason Wu, known for his timeless luxury and the craftmanship of his designs. This partnership, which began with Brizo sponsoring Jason’s fashion shows, has grown and evolved to using the designer’s gowns in advertising campaigns, and collaborating with him on a co-branded lavatory suite.”
The new suite of kitchen products follows Wu’s Brizo Bath Collection, which was launched in 2012.
Speaking to WWD, he said: “All my friends are asking me for a Brizo discount. Kitchen is a space I really love. During quarantine, I’ve been exploring my culinary side. That’s kept me inspired throughout these crazy four months of not being able to leave home that much and not eating out.
“I’m not classically trained. I do like the idea of something that isn’t so obvious. There’s subtle hints of what I love from my fashion background. I wanted this to be something that looks great for the home and doesn’t scream ‘fashion collection with designer, novelty’.”
Mandy Ellington, Brizo’s director of brand management, said: “Since the start of our relationship with Jason Wu in 2006, his forward-thinking sense of style continues to enrich and influence the Brizo brand’s unique, fashion-centric approach to design.”
Seth Fritz, manager, Brizo Design Futures, added: “As we were collaborating we wanted to embrace all those design principles which Brizo follows — timeless design, clean simplicity and Scandinavian design.”

Louis Vuitton fashion show attracts more than 100 million views

OHMYGOSSIP — Louis Vuitton’s recent catwalk show in Shanghai attracted a worldwide audience of more than 100 million people.
The fashion brand’s show featured giant inflatables and models stepping out of cargo containers, and it proved to be a hit with online viewers, with the company generating a huge audience through various social media channels.
The Louis Vuitton event was live-streamed on platforms such as Weibo, Douyin and Tencent.
As many as 68 million people followed the show through Weibo alone, while Instagram (3.3 million), Twitter (1.6 million), Facebook (335,000) and Louis Vuitton’s official website (84,000) also contributed towards the impressive figures.
The company – which has Virgil Abloh as the artistic director of its men’s wear collection – conceded that the show’s popularity was, in part, influenced by the coronavirus pandemic having led to the cancellation of various high-profile industry events over recent months.
Meanwhile, Michael Kors previously called for a change to the fashion calendar, saying it’s “time for a new approach for a new era”.
The designer – whose brand is best known for making handbags and accessories – said earlier this year: “I have for a long time thought that the fashion calendar needs to change.
“It’s exciting for me to see the open dialogue within the fashion community about the calendar – from Giorgio Armani to Dries Van Noten to Gucci to YSL to major retailers around the globe – about ways in which we can slow down the process and improve the way we work.
“We’ve all had time to reflect and analyse things, and I think many agree that it’s time for a new approach for a new era.”

Zerina Akers urges aspiring designers to ‘just keep going’

OHMYGOSSIP — Zerina Akers has urged black kids dreaming of working in the fashion industry to “just keep going”.
The costume designer – who is best known for collaborating with Beyonce – has encouraged aspiring designers and stylists to “reach out to people” within the industry in order to realise their ambitions.
Asked what advice she has for black kids looking to break into the fashion industry, Zerina told Harper’s Bazaar magazine: “Keep going. Do your research. Don’t be afraid to reach out to people.
“If you want to get into styling, maybe it’s not reaching out directly to the stylist, maybe it’s being in touch with the assistant and really wanting to serve that assistant well.
“Go on informational interviews. There are a lot of us that are willing to talk, willing to mentor, even if we may not be in a position to give you a job. So do that.
“If you send 50 emails and you get one back, you’re going somewhere. Just keep going.”
Meanwhile, Zerina recently hailed Beyonce as a “phenomenal mentor”.
Zerina – who has been the singer’s stylist since 2014 – said: “Beyonce pushes us to create something and, when you think you’ve got it, she pushes you further – often within a small time frame.
“I come out of every experience so much stronger, because she allows us to be free to take risks and make explosive visual experiences. She’s a master of the craft and a phenomenal mentor who always enhances and elevates the project.”

Daisy Edgar-Jones ‘has great natural style’

OHMYGOSSIP — Daisy Edgar-Jones has “great natural style”, according to Nicky Yates.
The ‘Normal People’ actress has emerged as a style star in recent months, and Daisy’s stylist has now hailed her fashion sense.
Speaking about the 22-year-old actress’ love of fashion, Nicky said: “Daisy’s style encompasses both feminine and masculine pieces.
“So, romantic puff-sleeved Ganni one moment and more minimal, masculine Roland Mouret tailoring the next. She has great natural style and really loves fashion.”
The stylist also revealed Daisy relishes the process of finding the perfect outfit.
She told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: “Some people want to find the right outfit as quickly as possible, whereas others, like Daisy, enjoy the process and love exploring new designers and trying new things.”
Earlier this month, Daisy confessed that she and her ‘Normal People’ character have similar approaches to make-up.
The actress revealed that her cosmetics style is similar to that of her alter-ego Marianne Sheridan, although the fictional character is a little more experimental.
She said: “I think [Marianne and I] have similar approaches [to our make-up], and I loved how experimental she was with her make-up at Trinity College.
“She played a lot with eyeliner and eyeshadow. I’ve always been a big fan of eye make-up and absolutely love Hourglass’s Scattered Light Glitter Eyeshadows – they’re easy to apply [and offer] maximum impact.”
Daisy loves a dramatic cat-eye look – but she doesn’t always get it right.
She explained: “Pardon the pun, but my secret is just winging it. Sometimes it goes perfectly, sometimes you end up with a flick that spans your whole head. Finding the right eyeliner really helps.”

Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion connected via fashion contacts

OHMYGOSSIP — Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion connected with each other through contacts in the fashion industry.
The 27-year-old rapper and Meg, 25, have joined forces for the new single ‘WAP’, and Cardi has revealed how their respective wardrobe stylists put them in contact with each other.
She shared: “My stylist, my wardrobe stylist, he linked up with her wardrobe stylist and they were like, ‘You know, we were having such a good time and we were talking about you guys. Yo, when are you guys ever going to link up? What’s going on? What’s good?'”
The ‘WAP’ video features cameo appearances from the likes of Kylie Jenner and Normani, but Cardi admitted it can sometimes be tough to collaborate with other big-name stars.
She told Tidal’s Elliott Wilson: “A lot of collabs that I haven’t made yet – it’s really because of my shyness.”
Earlier this month, Cardi admitted she didn’t feel welcome in the music industry when she first started out.
The chart-topping rapper revealed her “feelings got hurt” because people didn’t take her seriously as an artist.
She said: “When I first started doing music and everything, my feelings got hurt.
“A lot of times, because I felt people just kept denying me in my face. Cause my manager at the time, they said, cause you have to be more friendly. You got to go out more.
“And even when I was being friendly to other artists, and I’m not talking about female artists, just being more mixy in the industry, I just felt I’m shaking hands with everybody, but nobody want to do a f****** feature with me. What the hell?”

Kaia Gerber gets own loungewear from Bleusalt

OHMYGOSSIP — Kaia Gerber was “so excited” to have her own loungewear.
The 18-year-old model got in touch with Bleusalt – who previously created flared palazzo The Cindy Pant for the teenager’s supermodel mother Cindy Crawford – to tell them how she had been “living in” one of their designs during lockdown, but requested a small change to be made, ultimately resulting in the creation of The Kaia Pant.
Designer Lyndie Benson said: “During lockdown Kaia told me she had been living in our high-waisted legging but she wanted something more fitted with a bell bottom.”
Lyndie created a sample for Kaia, prompting further requests from her pals including the likes of Margaret Qualley and Cara Delevigne, which prompted the inclusion of The Kaia Pant into the permanent collection, and the model couldn’t be happier.
Kaia told Vogue.com: “I was so excited when our long-time family friend, Lyndie, approached me with the idea of The Kaia Pant.
“Bleusalt encompasses effortless sustainable style.”
The leggings are designed to be worn with a cami, bralette or cropped crew and ‘”will take you from the beach to dinner at Nobu”.
Lyndie added: “Kaia is a fashion icon in her own right and these reflect her fresh and fun, yet sophisticated, sense of style.”
And the release is even more “meaningful” for Kaia because Bleusalt have agreed to donate 20% of sales to A Sense of Home, an organisation which aims to prevent homelessness for youths ageing out of foster care by helping create their first-ever homes with donated furniture and homewear.
Kaia said: “A Sense Of Home is an organisation very near and dear to my heart. “It made this design even more meaningful to me.”

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley reveals skincare secret

OHMYGOSSIP — Rosie Huntington-Whiteley credits a nightly face mask for her glowing skin.
The ‘About Face’ host – who has three-year-old son Jack with fiance Jason Statham – is too busy to spend a lot of time on her skincare regime, so is a big fan of the Pipette Brightening Mask, which costs $22, which she applies before she goes to bed and wakes up looking fresh-faced and “luminous”.
She said: “I’ll tell you what I’ve been really loving lately: the Pipette Brightening Mask.
“I love it because I’m a busy mom, a busy woman, and I don’t want to do 100,000 steps every night before I go to bed. This has lactic acid in it and it’s also clean and non-toxic.
“I basically apply it on my skin after I wash my face in the evening and go to bed, and it’s doing all the work for me. It leaves my skin looking really even and luminous the next day and it feels good.”
The 33-year-old model has spent decades having someone look after her appearance and even now, she still learns something new whenever she works with a new hair stylist or make-up artist.
She told Insider: “Every time I sit in the hair and makeup chair, I learn something.
“I now sort of reflect the motions of my mother where I sit down as one person and I get out of the make-up chair and I feel different.
“I think make-up and beauty, there’s always an element of it that feels superficial to a degree, but what I am fascinated by is the way it makes people feel and seeing change.”
Rosie has been interested in make-up since she was a child watching her mum “transform” her appearance.
She recalled: “Sitting on the corner of my mother’s bed, watching her get ready for work or for a night out.
“I was just fascinated watching her transform, and watching how it shifted her confidence.
“I was also fascinated by picking up these products — it felt like true art to me the way you apply them.”

Sabrina Dhowre Elba calls for more diversity in fashion

OHMYGOSSIP — Sabrina Dhowre Elba believes there is “way more work” to be done in tackling diversity in the fashion industry.
The 31-year-old model – who is married to actor Idris Elba – thinks there has been a “massive improvement” since she was growing up and had few catwalk stars to look up to, but she still doesn’t think enough has been done to promote people of colour on the runway.
She said: “When I was growing up, you had Naomi [Campbell], Tyra [Banks] and Iman. So you’d think, ‘OK, maybe I could be one of three.’ That was it!
“Even now, while there has obviously been a massive improvement, there’s 100% way more work to do.”
And Sabrina also called for a push to celebrate different body types because few people on the catwalk share her natural curvy shape.
She added to Grazia magazine: “But also, people talk about Ashley Graham and what she’s done for plus-size models but I would love to see that movement work for women of colour. Not only am I looking at these models and thinking, ‘They don’t look like me in terms of my skin colour’, but they don’t look like me in terms of body shape either.
“I’m an African woman. I’ve got curves, sorry!”
Sabrina slammed sample size-garments as another “form of discrimination” because they are designed to fit certain body types and shapes.
She continued: “People need to start looking at sample sizes as a form of discrimination, not only in terms of weight but in terms of skin colour.
“You’re ruling out certain women from certain places who just don’t have that body type. What is that doing for the industry?”

OHMYGOSSIP — Buzz Bingo have launched a cut-price recreation of Lulu Guinness’ iconic Bibi bingo bag.
The designer released a very limited number of the accessory – which has been seen on the arm of the likes of Bella Hadid – last week for £175 and it sold out within 24 hours of going on sale.
But fortunately, disappointed fans can get their hands on a similar bag for just £1.75 after the bingo operator quickly launched their own recreation of the bold, bingo card-themed design.
They wrote on Instagram: “”Have you seen the new @lulu_guinness Bibi bag?
“Inspired by the nation’s beloved game of bingo, the £175 designer bag even counts Bella Hadid as a fan.
So… we’ve decided to make our own Buzz Bingo version for just £1.75! Maybe we should start selling them in club
“Reckon Bella would swap for our bag if we throw in a game of Breakfast Bingo? (sic)”
The Bibi-inspired bag will go on sale on a trial basis soon, with proceeds being donated to the NHS.
Buzz Bingo – who reopened some clubs last week and has pledged to have all branches reopened by 27 August with enhanced safety measures in place – are also supporting the NHS with the introduction of NHS Lucky Stars in its Main Event games. The organisation will receive a 5p donation from the sale of every paper book and electronic touchpad package.
Lulu Guinness designer David Hogson recently spoke about the huge popularity of the Bibi bags, which also feature designs including crossword puzzles and dominos.
He said: “In the last two weeks we’ve seen Lily James, Lucy Boynton and Bella Hadid carrying the bags.
“Last Saturday, we sold 12 Bibis alone.
“Both old and new customers are coming in to buy the Bibi because it’s got echoes from the archive which loyal customers will recognise, but for a younger customer it’s just a bit of fun.”

Daisy Edgar-Jones named one of Vogue’s 25 most influential women

OHMYGOSSIP — Daisy Edgar-Jones has been named one of Vogue’s 25 most influential women in Britain.
The 22-year-old ‘Normal People’ actress has made the fashion bible’s list for the “visionary women leading Britain with prescience, power and poise”.
According to British Vogue: “When ‘Normal People’, the television adaptation of Sally Rooney’s publishing phenomenon, landed on BBC Three this April, it catapulted Daisy Edgar-Jones (and co-star Paul Mescal) to stardom. As Marianne, the 22-year-old captivated audiences – 28 million and counting requests have been made to watch the series, a record for the channel. But the marker of a true new TV icon? A much-imitated hairstyle. Marianne’s fringe is the Rachel cut of 2020.”
Queen Elizabeth, 94, also made the list, with the magazine stating: “On 5 April, as the country grappled with fear and grief, Queen Elizabeth II made a television address to the nation, the fifth in her 68-year reign. Her pitch-perfect message, ending with the promise “We will meet again”, echoing the words of Vera Lynn, was watched by some 24 million people. Even in 2020 – a precarious year for the royal family in other ways – the Queen is still a source of unique solace and support to the public.”
Others to feature include singer Rihanna, 32, actresses Florence Pugh, 24, and Michaela Coel, 32, England women’s football captain Steph Houghton and chef Asma Khan.
The full list is published in the September 2020 issue of British Vogue, out now.

Alicia Keys’ new project is ‘not another celebrity beauty line’

OHMYGOSSIP — Alicia Keys’ new brand is “not another celebrity beauty line”.
The 39-year-old singer/songwriter has partnered with E.l.f. Beauty for a new project, which will include “skin-loving, dermatologist-developed, cruelty-free products” but it promises to be different from similar celebrity collaborations.
E.l.f’s head of corporate communications, Melinda Fried, told CNN: “This is not another ‘celebrity beauty line’. Because Alicia is more than an icon, she’s an inspiration.
“In her song lyrics, numerous interviews and editorials, and in her (new book), she has openly and honestly shared her skin struggles, her frustration with society’s unrealistic beauty ideals and her own journey to finding clarity, strength and a deeper knowledge of her real self. Now, through this new project, she aims to help others find that same place of peace and power within themselves.”
Fried added that the new line will “encompass multiple beauty categories” and added that “Keys has been very involved in the creative process.”
More details about the range, including a name, will be revealed “in the coming months.”
Meanwhile, E.l.f. chief executive officer Tarang Amin’s previously told WWD: “She’s been wanting to do something in beauty and wellness for quite some time.
“What really appealed to us is she’s much more than a celebrity, she’s someone of real substance who goes between being a 15-time Grammy Award winner and artist [and] she’s got a New York Times bestseller in her book, ‘More Myself’. This was really a great marriage between what she stands for and wants to accomplish in beauty and wellness and what we stand for.”
Alicia’s brand is set to focus on “inclusivity, empowerment, wellness and self care”.
Amin added: “It’s so much more than just the products. She has such important messaging on inclusivity, empowerment, wellness, self care, rituals – so really being able to bring all those elements out in rich storytelling is a key part of what this brand is going to be about.”
The new project will be fully owned by E.l.f., but Alicia is set to become a shareholder.

Cindy Bruna’s digital make-up

OHMYGOSSIP — Cindy Bruna’s make-up was digitally applied for the September 2020 issue of FASHION.
The 25-year-old French fashion model and L’Oréal International Spokesperson did her own light make-up for the shoot, which took place with a small team in Paris’s Nolinski hotel amid the Covid-19 pandemic, and L’Oréal Paris Global Make-up Director Val Garland later digitally applied four specially created make-up looks to the photographs.
And L’Oréal has created QR codes that appear in FASHION’s September issue as well as on fashionmagazine.com for readers to scan and virtually ‘try on’ the looks Garland created for Bruna.
Meanwhile, Bruna – who was scouted at the age of 16 in the South of France – admitted that modelling can be a tough industry and said she was “full of doubt” when she started.
She said: “You are constantly judged, compared and not chosen, which can be difficult. I have cried many times about this. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out. You’re not what they’re looking for, and that’s OK. Don’t change. Be yourself. The right job will come.
“I’m very proud of the whole process. When I first started, I was full of doubt. I was scared. I didn’t know that I would have to leave my family to go to Paris and then New York. I didn’t speak English. All of that could have stopped me, but I was like, ‘You know what? Just go for it.'”
The September 2020 issue of FASHION is available on newsstands August 10th.

Alicia Keys launching beauty brand

OHMYGOSSIP — Alicia Keys is launching a lifestyle beauty brand.
The 39-year-old singer/songwriter has partnered with E.l.f. Beauty and has been working on the new project, which will include “skin-loving, dermatologist-developed, cruelty-free products”, for the past nine months.
E.l.f. chief executive officer Tarang Amin told WWD: “She’s been wanting to do something in beauty and wellness for quite some time.
“What really appealed to us is she’s much more than a celebrity, she’s someone of real substance who goes between being a 15-time Grammy Award winner and artist [and] she’s got a New York Times bestseller in her book, ‘More Myself’. The new project will be fully owned by E.l.f., but Alicia is set to become a shareholder.
Meanwhile, Alicia previously launched a #nomakeup campaign in 2016 and said: “It doesn’t have anything to do with make-up or no make-up. It has to do with who are you, what makes you feel good, how do you want to express that and even just asking the questions – ‘What do I feel? How do I feel good?’ However that is, you should do it. I love my lip gloss, I love my blush, I love my eyeliner. It’s not about that. At the same time, I don’t want to feel beholden – to have to do it.”

Tracee Ellis Ross: Rihanna changed the beauty game

OHMYGOSSIP — Tracee Ellis Ross says Rihanna “changed the beauty game”.
The 32-year-old singer launched Fenty Beauty – with an unprecedented 40 shades – in 2017 and followed up with Fenty Skin last month and Tracee, 47, says Rihanna’s determination to make the industry inclusive has been an inspiration to all.
She told Harper’s Bazaar US: “Rihanna’s unapologetic determination to make beauty an inclusive industry – and her insistence that beauty be democratic – changed the game. She seems to imagine from a world where there are no limits, inviting us all to do the same.”
Rihanna always knew she wanted to expand into skincare but insisted that she waited three years after the launch of Fenty Beauty as she had to “get it right”.
She explained: “I’ve always seen the Fenty brand as more than just make-up, and I knew I wanted to make skin care from the very beginning. It was just about getting it right. You have to live with the formulas for awhile and test them in different ways. It’s very different from makeup in that sense. It takes a long time.”
A$AP Rocky, Halima Aden, and Paloma Elsesser feature in the campaign for Fenty Skin and Rihanna was determined to make the brand inclusive.
She previously explained to US Vogue: “Skin is skin. Everybody has skin, and everybody should take care of it, so I never approached skincare or making this line from a gender standpoint. I didn’t want anyone to feel excluded or be excluded.
“Skin-care is self-care. I am trying to get people into a ritual. Something that’s really simple – three steps. We start there because skin care can get really complicated. It can get confusing, so I wanted to start with something that would be easy to understand so that people can get right to it.”
