Anwar Hadid: I want to spread love through jewellery brand

OHMYGOSSIP — Anwar Hadid wants to “spread love” with his Martyre brand.
The 21-year-old model launched the jewellery label Martyre alongside Yoni Laham in May 2019, and the pair are set to collaborate with Pencils of Promise to donate 50 percent of the proceeds from their Eternal bracelet to the charity, which focuses on education access and child literacy.
And Anwar has said bringing “good things to the world” is his number one desire for the accessories brand.
He explained: “I always want to be able to align what I create with things that can help people. [Projects] that will spread love, health, and bring good things to the world.”
Whilst Yoni added: We’ve known about Pencils of Promise forever, and from the beginning of Martyre, we’ve been thinking about which charity represented our morals and how we can pair up.
“When we were able to get in touch with them and found out that they were interested in doing things with us, we were incredibly excited. We’re aligned with their mission statement – what better fundamental principle is there than trying to give the best education to children in the developing world?”
The Eternal bracelet featured in the charitable project is made up of an interlocking design, which Anwar says represents “coming together”.
He said: “The piece represents coming together. [And] all the great things that we and these organisations can do when we’re working together.”
And Anwar also said he’s keen to see where the Martyre brand goes in the future, as he and Yoni have “learned a lot about creativity” in the past year of business.
Speaking to Vogue magazine, he said: “Yoni and I have learned a lot about creativity and the things that we want to push for in the future. Building a business is tough, but it’s rewarding to put our heads together and do the things that we’ve envisioned. Over time we’ve realised that we can bring things to fruition, and that has taught us a lot about ourselves.”

Lady Gaga’s hair colour has a touching meaning

OHMYGOSSIP — Lady Gaga’s new hair colour was inspired by her hairstylist’s late mother.
The ‘Stupid Love’ hitmaker took to Instagram to show off her latest hair colour in a stunning shade of blue-green, as she revealed the name of the colour – Suzie’s Ocean Blonde – was chosen as a tribute to the late mother of her hairstylist, Frederic Aspiras.
Writing alongside a picture of her hair, she said: “Hello Merpeople. Rocking color by @fredericaspiras named after his mother who just passed … Suzie’s Ocean Blonde. I love you Freddie […] this was extra special glamour with love. (sic)”
Gaga is known for experimenting with her fashion looks, including her hair and makeup, and her makeup artist Sarah Tanno recently explained she likes her makeup looks to “feel like an emotion”.
She said: “Gaga likes it better when I put on her makeup in five minutes with two products than when I spend an hour on it. She likes the grit; she likes it to feel like an emotion.”
The artist has been working with the ‘Sour Candy’ singer since 2009, and Sarah is even the global artistry director of Gaga’s makeup brand, Haus Laboratories, which launched last year.
She added: “Gaga and I have the same aesthetic and feeling toward beauty. It comes from a place of story-telling and of empowerment.”
Meanwhile, Haus Laboratories launched a new eyeshadow palette in May to coincide with the release of Gaga’s sixth studio album, ‘Chromatica’.
The palette was named after her single, ‘Stupid Love’, and featured 18 vivid shades, including several shades of blue, two shades of pink, and a range of earthy brown tones.
Speaking about the palette at the time, Sarah had said: “The matte colours are pressed a little harder so they don’t flake out on your face, while the shimmery ones are pressed a little looser. All of formulas are so velvety and pigmented that you could pick this up and apply it with your finger if you want a more edgy, bold kick to it.
“I want to encourage people that it’s okay to wear colour, and it doesn’t mean you have to have a really bold eye with a neutral mouth; I want to push you to do the opposite. I don’t think it’s all about the rules, it’s more about breaking them.”

Karen Elson was called a ‘fatty’ at her first photoshoot: ‘Everyone made fun of me’

OHMYGOSSIP — Karen Elson was “made fun of” during one of her first photoshoots, because she was told she had been “eating too much”.
The 41-year-old supermodel has admitted one of her earliest memories of doing fashion shoots was being called a “fatty”, which she says stuck with her throughout her career and forced her to associate being skinny with “success”.
She said: “One of my first experiences with a fashion editor on a shoot, a dress didn’t fit me, and her instinct was to say, ‘Oh, you’ve been eating too much.’ Everyone on the shoot made fun of me, saying, ‘Oh fatty’s coming out.’
“They were all laughing, and being young and impressionable and wanting to please, I internalised that. When I’m thin, I’m successful. But when I’m 10lb or 15lb heavier than what they want, that means I’m not worthy. To be successful, I had to play that game, it’s the unspoken rules of the business.”
When Karen was 19, she was openly mocked by a designer for her weight at a fitting for Milan fashion week, and was dropped from the show.
The beauty was then dropped from every show that season, and was told by her agent to eat vegetables for a month to lose weight.
She recalled: “I felt so humiliated, I cried my eyes out. You know, to be told you’re disgusting … The humiliation of having this played out publicly, on an international stage, filled me with self-loathing and plunged me into a deep depression.”
Karen’s experiences in the fashion industry triggered a cycle of disordered eating, but the star eventually had “a moment where [I thought]: I have to stick with who I am”.
Now, during the coronavirus lockdown, the model is finally allowing herself to enjoy whatever foods she wants.
Speaking to The Sunday Times’ Style magazine, she said: “[I’ve allowed myself to] eat whatever I want. I exercise, but I finally allowed myself to gain weight. You know, without being like, oh my God, what’s gonna happen?”

Naomi Campbell: I want to see models of colour paid in the right way

OHMYGOSSIP — Naomi Campbell wants to see models of colour paid “in the right way”.
The 50-year-old supermodel made history as the first black cover girl of magazines including French Vogue, British Vogue, and the coveted September issue of US Vogue, and has now said she wants other models of colour to be fairly compensated for their work without the need of specialised “diversity boards”.
She said: “Now I want to see them pay models of colour in the right way. Now I want to see that the board seats are given, and no: ‘Let’s make a diversity board for this.'”
Naomi credits her pals Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington – alongside whom she formed the famous ‘Trinity’ – for helping her get noticed by designers who were yet to use models of colour at the start of her career.
She added: “They really put themselves out there, Linda and Christy, in terms of supporting me with designers back in the day who hadn’t used a model of colour yet. We were friends outside of work.”
And the model is still making history in recent years, as last year marked the first time she had ever worked with a black photographer on a mainstream publication when she appeared on the cover of Guardian Weekend magazine.
This year, Naomi had her first black photographer for a Vogue publication, but says people shouldn’t be applauding the changes, and instead should be “shocked” that the photographers have “never got the opportunities” before now.
Speaking to The Observer, she said: “Everyone is like, ‘Oh, wow!’ But really, it’s not, ‘Oh wow.’ It’s, ‘Oh, my goodness, that’s shocking.’ I didn’t realise it when I was shooting [the Weekend cover], it was afterwards. And suddenly I start going back through my life and my work life and realise I haven’t had that opportunity before. There are plenty of black photographers out there, but they never got the opportunities.”

Lily Cole: ‘I’ve appeared in a North Korean propaganda film’

OHMYGOSSIP — Lily Cole once starred in a propaganda video for the North Korean dictatorship.
The 32-year-old star has revealed that as part of her modelling career – which began when she was 14 – she appeared in a propaganda film slamming Western media and consumerism.
In an extract from her new book ‘Who Cares Wins: Reasons For Optimism in Our Changing World’, which has been obtained by the Daily Mirror newspaper, Lily said: “My sister and I were brought up in London by our mother, who had a very low income.
“Then I began my professional life – aged 14 – as a face of consumerism. The catwalk catapulted me into opportunity and privilege. I’ve been in adverts, posters and paparazzi shots.
“I have even appeared in a North Korean propaganda film criticising illusion and deception in the Western world! My face appears, blinking long false eyelashes, with the label ‘ILLUSION’ printed on top.”
Lily also revealed that her modelling career left her “anxious” about money as she quickly became “picky” about who she worked with.
She said: “My financial anxiety wasn’t helped by the fact that I stepped away from modelling quite quickly, became picky about who I would work with, and started volunteering a lot of my time.
“As my bank account shrank, I found myself rich in new ways – in experiences, relationships, and doing work I believed in. Now, I appreciate minimalism.
“I still live a privileged life but over the last few years I’ve given away many things.”

Kylie Jenner blasted by designer Michael Costello

OHMYGOSSIP — Kylie Jenner has been blasted by designer Michael Costello for only promoting big brands.
After Kylie shared a picture of herself in a new Balmain dress and tagged the brand’s creative director Olivier Rousteing, Costello hit out at Kylie for not supporting up-and-coming designers.
Kylie captioned her picture: “Thank you my love @olivier_rousteing for the most perfect bday dress,” and Costello wrote: “Thank you Oliver [sic] for the perfect bday dress. And thank you to the no name designers who work tirelessly around the clock on custom looks who she won’t tag , mention or @ . . . Unless it’s paid (sic).”
He added: “And thank you to the glam team who always gets tagged no matter what. (this post has nothing to do with me as Kylie only wears something from me once a year and I’m lucky if I get a decent pic to post.
“No shade to any of her team who styles her and no shame to the glam team . Even though we know you can not wait to unfollow me and drag me for filth! It’s sad that designers work so so so so hard on these opportunities to dress these gorgeous popular women and they only tag the major high end designers like Oliver but forget about the other ones.
“This has nothing to do with my brand but it definitely has a lot to do with the la designers why not tag at least one ? Not all the time but maybe once in a while (sic).”

‘Then they see me as this 40-year-old fat girl’: Kelly Brook taunted by cruel trolls

OHMYGOSSIP — Kelly Brook says men can’t cope with her being a “40-year-old fat girl”.
The pin-up – who graced the covers of lads’ magazines in her 20s – has revealed that cruel trolls have taunted her by claiming she is past her best and her former fans are not happy that she has put on weight.
She told Femail: “Men are like ‘you’re past your best’, or ‘you were sexy once’, but whatever, you’re always going to get that.
“When you grow up with someone you don’t want them to get older, it’s weird. And I get it, people remember me as this pin up girl.
“Then they see me as this 40-year-old fat girl and they’re like no! I get it, it’s funny. But people grow up, people get bigger, people change, it happens.”
Kelly admitted she has put on weight during the Covid-19 lockdown and insisted she can’t wait to get back on track.
She said: “I learnt many life lessons during lockdown, like how to bake the perfect sourdough pizza and how to make the tastiest homemade ice cream!
“Whilst it’s really important to show the world that not all beauty is a size eight – on the other hand, for me lockdown led to lots of daily ‘snacksidents’, the inevitable weight gain and not feeling so great about myself.
“So now I’m now ready to press my ‘reset’ button and rediscover my leaner, happier and healthier self, thanks to SlimFast.”

Miss Piggy wants to give Kermit a makeover

OHMYGOSSIP — Miss Piggy wants to give Kermit the Frog a makeover.
The ‘Muppets’ star is not a fan of Kermit’s style choice of just a collar and wants to get him to finally start wearing clothes.
She told WWD: “I’d d have him wear clothes. Except for that silly collar, he usually wears nothing. Oh sure, being naked works for frogs, but there are so many missed opportunities to dress and accessorise him, as long as everything is wash-and-wear and waterproof.”
And Miss Piggy is very proud of her own personal style, which she achieves with the help of a team of stylists.
She said: “I astonish myself with the varied range and overwhelming bedazzlement of my wardrobe. But, I know that my fans and followers expect the best from moi, and boy do I bring it. I have a team of stylists, make-up artists and, of course, my personal assistant and majordomo, Uncle Deadly, who makes sure I never ever have the same look twice. It takes a lot of bookkeeping, but worth the effort.”
Speaking about her signature style, she added: “I love wearing long gloves, preferably lavender and accented by a humongous precious gemstone ring. I also adore pearls. For moi, style is all about making a statement and the statement I like to make is, ‘Hey, look at moi! Aren’t I fabulous?’ As for how many necklaces I have, you’ll have to talk to Uncle Deadly, he’s in charge of auditing moi’s accessory inventory.”

Megan Thee Stallion doesn’t care what people think of her body

OHMYGOSSIP — Megan Thee Stallion doesn’t care what people think about her body.
The 25-year-old rapper says no one else controls her image and she will twerk if she wants to, even if some people find it offensive because she’s “got the assets”.
She explained to W magazine: “Twerking was supposed to be a thing that was sneaky fun- like, bad. And now it’s a thing where it’s super normal, it’s very casual, you see everybody doing it.
“Let me say this: Different body types offend different people. So if you are maybe smaller, twerking doesn’t come off as offensive, but when you got the assets, then that’s when it comes off as, ‘Oh my God, what the hell is going on?’ It becomes a sexual thing. But I can’t help it that I got this body. I’ma twerk, and it’s gon’ look this way, and it might be offensive to you because I look like this, but I can’t help it. And I don’t care. I don’t care that you feel that way.”
And Megan refuses to allow anyone tell her what to do.
She said: “A lot of times a lot of stuff is still happening where people do try to control your image; they try to put together a plan for you. But I have a lot of freedom.”

Twiggy didn’t want haircut that made her famous

OHMYGOSSIP — Twiggy originally didn’t want the haircut that made her famous.
The star was a 16-year-old called Lesley Hornby when she had her hair cut by Leonard of Mayfair and her picture taken by a professional photographer, and although Twiggy didn’t want the experimental cut, it completely changed her life after a fashion reporter saw the picture on the wall and featured her in an article as The Face of ’66.
Speaking on Jessie Ware’s ‘Table Manners podcast’, she explained: “I went in to have it shampooed and set and Leonard saw me and he said, ‘Let me do my new haircut on you’. I’d been growing my hair.
“For a moment I kind of went, ‘I don’t know whether I want my hair cut’. But I was in this very posh salon in Mayfair so I was a bit too shy to say I don’t want it done, and I kind of nodded.
“The nickname Twiggy… my boyfriend’s brother used to call me to annoy me. Once it was written in the paper it went stupid and within six months I was in Paris.”
Meanwhile, Twiggy, 70 – whose real name is Dame Lesley Lawson – previously admitted she doesn’t think the fashion industry will ever shift its focus from “slimness”, despite a commitment to using a variety of body shapes in campaigns in recent times.
Asked if the fashion industry needs to focus on women of all shapes and sizes, she said: “Well, it has, hasn’t it, there are so many more ads now. It’s the same with older models, they’re using middle-aged and older women in commercials.
“I don’t think the high fashion industry will ever go completely away from slimness but I think other parts of the industry have started to use different shapes and sizes, and I think they should.”

Joey King feels ‘selfish’ for feeling down

OHMYGOSSIP — Joey King feels “selfish” for feeling down.
The 21-year-old actress admitted that she is working on looking after her own mental health and trying not to feel guilty for feeling bad when there are other people who are dealing with much worse issues than she is.
The ‘Kissing Booth’ actress explained to Cosmopolitan magazine: “I preach a lot about being proactive about your mental health and not feeling selfish for feeling depressed or upset, but then when I sink into these weird moods, I immediately feel super selfish, which makes me feel worse. When it comes to taking care of yourself, there is a certain level of selfishness you have to have, but it’s hard. I haven’t found that balance yet. Because I in no way, shape, or form want to make any conversation that I start right now about me.”
And Joey admitted the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020 has not helped.
She said: “2020…at first, everything was on fire, then we were going into World War III. Then the coronavirus hit. Your brain goes to the worst-case scenario. Like, What if every single person in the universe dies?”
Joey is a supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement; she and her sister Hunter have been reading ‘So You Want to Talk About Race’ together and Joey has been doing what she can to educate herself and others.
She said: “I am a guest. Like every white person who enters, we are guests. This is not an issue we have to make about ourselves. We don’t get to make it about ourselves.”

Kate Hudson: ‘Covid-19 pandemic has been challenging for self-care’

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Hudson says the Covid-19 pandemic has been “a challenging time for self-care”.
The 41-year-old actress has revealed that she has been turning to her friends and family to help her to cope with the global health crisis and she insists that it is important to reach out to others.
Kate told E! News: “We all put so much pressure on ourselves, and this pandemic has been an extraordinary, challenging time for self-care. My number one tip right now is to rely on others when you need it! I’ve always said that community is essential to wellness. Your community – no matter who it is – can help you find balance! Don’t expect yourself to be a super-human! It’s just not possible. Or fun, for that matter!”
Kate – who has children Ryder Robinson, 16, Bingham Hawn Bellamy, nine, and Rani Rose Hudson Fujikawa, 22 months – also admitted that lockdown has led to more snacking but she is trying to be as healthy as possible.
She explained: “I am snacking so much while I’ve been at home! I think it’s because I’m home and near my fridge all day. I slice up an apple and it fills me up between meals. I love the satisfying crunch and so do my kids.”
And although the actress, who follows a mainly plant-based diet, is extremely health-conscious, she likes to treat herself to a “good dirty martini” from time to time.
She said: “My diet is mostly plant-based but sometimes I will add chicken, fish or steak. I seek two key elements when I cook: The ingredients must be fresh and the recipe must be easy. Lately I have been obsessed with pan-seared summer squash. I also adore grilled salmon with mango salsa. It is to die for!
“I love a good dirty martini made with my King St. vodka! For me, it’s about everything in moderation and just being mindful of what you’re putting in your body.”

Jason Wu launching Brizo kitchen collection

The 37-year-old fashion designer has joined forces with the luxury kitchen and bath company for a new collection of kitchen products, including a pull-down kitchen faucet, pull-down prep faucet, bar faucet and soap/lotion dispenser.
A statement on Brizo’s website stated: “Since 2007, Brizo has partnered with Jason Wu, known for his timeless luxury and the craftmanship of his designs. This partnership, which began with Brizo sponsoring Jason’s fashion shows, has grown and evolved to using the designer’s gowns in advertising campaigns, and collaborating with him on a co-branded lavatory suite.”
The new suite of kitchen products follows Wu’s Brizo Bath Collection, which was launched in 2012.
Speaking to WWD, he said: “All my friends are asking me for a Brizo discount. Kitchen is a space I really love. During quarantine, I’ve been exploring my culinary side. That’s kept me inspired throughout these crazy four months of not being able to leave home that much and not eating out.
“I’m not classically trained. I do like the idea of something that isn’t so obvious. There’s subtle hints of what I love from my fashion background. I wanted this to be something that looks great for the home and doesn’t scream ‘fashion collection with designer, novelty’.”
Mandy Ellington, Brizo’s director of brand management, said: “Since the start of our relationship with Jason Wu in 2006, his forward-thinking sense of style continues to enrich and influence the Brizo brand’s unique, fashion-centric approach to design.”

The 22-year-old actress – who shot to fame this year for her portrayal of Marianne Sheridan in the TV adaptation of Sally Rooney’s ‘Normal People’ – has revealed she has been keeping busy with her new skill during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Daisy told OK! magazine: “I’ve taken up embroidery, which I’ve been quite enjoying during lockdown. I’m not sure if it will continue afterwards, but it’s been quite fun. I’ve also got into Mario Kart – it’s quite good because it’s pretty mindless. You can just zone out and play.”
And she has also been reading a lot more, explaining that it helps to “take you out of your own world”.
She said: “I love to read. I think it’s a really brilliant thing to do because it takes you out of your own world. You’re able to completely invest in somebody else’s life, which I think is pretty interesting. I love the theatre, the cinema and going out to consume stories and art. I’m looking forward to being able to do a bit more of that in the future.”
And the star revealed she can’t wait to see her friends and family now that lockdown restrictions are lifting.
She explained: “Right now, I’m just looking forward to seeing my friends really. I’m most looking forward to a proper hug with my family and friends. It’s funny… I’ll never feel lonely in a crowded place now. I think I’m really looking forward to being surrounded by lots of people because I didn’t realise how much I love that. I’ve really missed it. I’m also excited to get back to work because I love it, and to celebrate with everyone and have a boogie.”
