Daisy Edgar-Jones fronts Jimmy Choo campaign

OHMYGOSSIP — Daisy Edgar-Jones has landed her first-ever fashion campaign with Jimmy Choo.
The ‘Normal People’ star has made her fashion debut with the luxury footwear brand’s 2020 fall campaign, modelling a range of shoes from fresh white trainers to skyhigh boots and heels.
In a statement, she said: “This is the first time I have worked on a commercial shoot, and it was a completely new and exciting experience for me.
“I loved finding a character through the shoes and accessories, it reinforced to me how trasformative accessories, especially shoes, can be when playing a role. I also love how the collection includes off duty styles as well as glamorous heels.”
Daisy rose to fame as Marianne Sheridan in the acclaimed BBC drama alongside Paul Mescal when the show premiered in April.
She was shot on location at the landmark Chiltern Firehouse in London, modelling a range of footwear and accessories including a men’s oversized shirt, handbags and crystal-adorned heels.
Jimmy Choo creative director Sandra Choi said: “She has found herself on the cusp of global stardom during an extraordinary moment in history. I, like many others, was mesmerized by her performance in ‘Normal People’ and am so thrilled we were able to work together to create such a beautiful campaign that talks to the brand’s London roots so strongly.”
The 22-year-old actress is also seen in Jimmy Choo’s video series ‘In My Choo’ where she discusses the importance of fashion within the showbiz industry.
She explained: “Marianne’s accessories were so helpful because I had to track quite a lot of an age difference over four years. For me, what really helped was the shoes, because I think the way that you walk says a lot about your character.”

Halima Aden joins Vita Coco

OHMYGOSSIP — Halima Aden has been appointed Chief Coconut Officer for the Vita Coco Project.
The Somali-American supermodel – who spent the first seven years of her life in a refugee camp in Kenya – will serve as a global spokesperson and advocate for the campaign, which helps the coconut water company support coconut farming communities in the Philippines and Sri Lanka by providing thousands of jobs and impacting millions of people in these regions.
She said: “Now more than ever, it’s really important to me to partner with brands that share my values. After I visited the coconut farms with Vita Coco last year and saw the work that they do firsthand and the impact it has, I knew it was an organisation that I wanted to be a part of.”
Aden, 22, moved to America when she was six years old, but found it very hard to acclimatise as she did not know a word of English, was Muslim and wore a hijab.
And while Aden’s life has led to superstar status, she has fond memories of her youth in the refugee camp and a sense of a strong community.
Vita Coco works hard to make an impact on the communities by paying farmers a reasonable local wage, building 30 safe classrooms for K-12 education, and giving more than 80 scholarships to top-performing students in the regions.
Meanwhile, Aden says Georgia May Jagger is an inspiration to her due to her environmental and sustainability work.
She said: “Since I was a little girl, I always looked closest to the women around me for inspiration. Growing up, that was my mom. As I grew older, my girlfriends. Now, it’s the women I work with, including the other Pandora muses. All the girls have one thing or another that I can look at and be like, ‘Wow, this is something that I want to learn.’ Whether it’s Georgia [May Jagger], with all that she’s passionate about in terms of sustainability and the work she does to protect the oceans, Larsen [Thompson] with her tech talk videos, or Margaret [Zhang] being a voice and an advocate for the women of China.”

Cate Blanchett thinks it’s ‘chic’ to rewear outfits

OHMYGOSSIP — Cate Blanchett’s stylist thinks it’s “chic” to rewear outfits.
The 51-year-old actress made headlines at this year’s Venice Film Festival, wearing a dazzling midnight-blue Esteban Cortázar gown with a capelet and sleek racer-back detail she originally wore at the BFI London Film Festival premiere of Carol in 2015.
Her long-time stylist Elizabeth Stewart has proven that fashion should not be restricted by season as the shimmering gown hadn’t lost its charm.
She said on Instagram: “It’s chic to repeat.”
And Cate hopes that her choice to re-use her old outfits will inspire others to rethink their wardrobe choices.
She told WWD: “This is not a mandate, it’s a provocation.
“Beautiful things can come out of sustainability. Whenever you do rewear something, you have this shadow memory of the time you wore it before.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Ocean’s 8’ star thinks the word actress has historically been “used in a pejorative sense” and would prefer to call herself an actor.
She said: “Not as a political statement, but I’ve always referred to myself as an actor.
“I don’t think in that very gender specific language and I’m of a generation where the word actress was always used in a pejorative sense.
“A good performance is a good performance no matter the sexual orientation of the performer who’s making them.”
The film industry ground to a halt earlier this year when the coronavirus pandemic led to studio shutdowns around the world.
But Cate remains confident that the industry will manage to bounce back.
She told Deadline: “Challenge is in our DNA. If any industry will emerge more resiliently and creatively, it will be the creative arts and the film industry.”
Cate also thinks the pandemic should prompt more questions about the influence of streaming services, and how they might impact the cinema business.
The Hollywood star said: “I think it will be a very important conversation to have … It’s a global issue.
“As we re-emerge, it really is a strong chance to robustly examine things that we haven’t been forced to examine which is streaming technology and its implications on the cinema – the way we view it and how we make it.
“There’s a lot of opportunity now to ask the deep questions.”

Mabel teams up with H+M and Kangol for new collection

OHMYGOSSIP — Mabel is fronting the latest campaign for H&M’s collaboration with Kangol.
The 24-year-old singer has collaborated with the high street fashion retailer for its latest collection with the sportswear brand, famous for its hats, to bring fans a wardrobe full of 90s-inspired clothes.
Mabel has herself co-created two pieces, a streetwear slip dress and joggers both of which are emblazoned with the Kangol logo.
Other pieces in the range include hooded jackets and long puffers, over-sized cardigans, cropped roll neck sweaters and logo T-shirts.
Discussing the inspiration behind her designs, Mabel said: “I wanted to make something comfy but still wearable; you could dress them up or down. That’s always really important to me, being busy, and quite often having to go from day-to-night, and [always being] on-the-go.”
The campaign sees Mabel transported to a retro-futuristic world and as part of the launch a variety of Instagram filters are available for fans to use to “travel through time”.
Mabel explained: “I wanted people to step into a different world. It gives people an opportunity to create their own music video. You have all these different settings that you can try, and I love the idea of people really feeling the mood of the collection that we’ve created. The clothes are a throwback, but the feel of the whole campaign is actually quite futuristic and sci-fi. My favourite filter is the game where you where you catch the hats. I’m literally obsessed with it, it’s so much fun.”
And since designing the collection, the ‘Don’t’ Call Me Up’ hitmaker has redefined her style to dress “simpler” with oversized items.
She added to Vogue: “I’m dressing simpler. I’ve been wearing some oversized items, like in the Kangol collection, there’s really good oversized knits, and leggings and slides. I’ve just been wearing slides and keeping it very chilled.
“A lot of the time, I will just get up and dress according to my mood. My best friend Simone Beyene is also my stylist. Our styling relationship is so fun and easy because I’ve known her since I was 10. We’re not afraid to try things and she’s also not afraid to tell me if something’s terrible, and vice versa, I’m not afraid to say this doesn’t feel like me. But that happens very rarely because we know each other so well.”
Emily Bjorkeheim, H&M’s Head of Design Divided, insists Mabel – the daughter of rapper-and-singer Neneh Cherry – was the perfect fit for the collection because of love of 90s streetwear inspired fashion.
Bjorkeheim said: “Kangol x H&M feat Mabel is a dream collaboration for us at H&M, uniting an iconic streetwear brand with one of the most authentic and genuine young music artists around. It’s about that 90’s streetwear attitude updated for today, a style that Mabel has made her own. There are so many hits, from the famous bucket hat, to the slim midi dress and autumn’s hero piece, the puffer jacket.”

Kourtney Kardashian lobbies governor to ban toxic chemicals

OHMYGOSSIP — Kourtney Kardashian has lobbied a California governor to ban “toxic” cosmetics.
The 41-year-old reality star has spent years advocating for toxic-free products, but after the bill to ban 12 chemicals – which was first introduced in March 2019 – had not moved forward, Kourtney used her Twitter account to contact governor Gavin Newsom directly.
She wrote: “What are toxic chemicals like #mercury and #formaldehyde doing in cosmetics anyways? @CAGovernor @GavinNewsom can lead the way by banning these ingredients from personal care products sold in California, just like in the EU. (sic)”
The ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ star also added “#AB2762”, which is a recent bill, also known as the Toxic-Free Cosmetics Act, passed by the California state legislature.
The law would ban the sale of products containing 12 chemicals including mercury, three types of formaldehyde, certain parabens and phthalates, and fluorinated compounds known as PFAS – which are already banned in 40 countries – beginning in 2025.
However, the bill has failed to move through Congress since CA Senator Diane Feinstein introduced it last year.
Meanwhile, Kourtney previously confessed she is a big fan of vampire facials and has it as often as possible and likes to combine it with a whole day of “downtime” where she relaxes and looks after her appearance.
She said: “I love platelet-rich plasma [treatments]. They take your blood and spin it, and then take the plasma and microneedle it [into your face]. They call it the Vampire Facial. It’s usually a day of downtime, but it’s something I like to do as often as I can.”
The curvaceous beauty is also a fan of cryotherapy treatments, where the body is exposed to extreme cold temperatures.
She added: “I do saunas. And Khloé [Kardashian] and I did cryotherapy together. We felt so good afterward. We were like, ‘Let’s do this every morning!'”

Christian Guernelli creates virtual modelling agency

OHMYGOSSIP — Christian Guernelli has designed a virtual modelling agency.
The fashion designer has created three computer-generated models Mia, Jada and Bella Hueman, as well as eight digital outfits that will be featured at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia.
He said: “The fashion industry needs a revolution. It’s kind of like you can see the same things around, and I think designers are never inspired anymore.
“I don’t think this technology will be a substitute. Real-life models will keep going to work. We will see fashion shows again like a real fashion show. But I think this is an extra tool that can help designers create something new.”
However, other designers think the new technology could be the first step to taking over the jobs held by supermodels like Gigi and Bella Hadid as it is more “practical” and can make the industry more diverse.
New York-based fashion historian Darnell-Jamal Lisby commented: “It’s a route that is practical because it’s cheaper. It’s accessible, and it reaches a larger audience.
“The CGI model in a way, to some degree, helps kind of amplify that message to making fashion a little more inclusive of more groups.”
Guernelli began developing the agency in January, and used the same process he uses to design his fashion to create the virtual model’s designs.
He explained: “I started to build through different experiments and found the face that I liked.”
Although the stars haven’t booked a client yet, they have garnered interest from three companies, while the Paris-based creative agency RHK Studio also represents Bella, Mia and Jada for modeling jobs.
He added: “Brands say, ‘They’re pretty, but how can I work with them?’ My dream is to go do [a fashion shoot in] some Vogue pages.”

Rihanna wants to end the stigma around skincare for men

OHMYGOSSIP — Rihanna wants men to stop thinking they “don’t have permission” to use skincare products.
The 32-year-old singer and businesswoman launched her Fenty Skin brand last month as an extension of her hugely successful Fenty Beauty range, and has now said she’s determined to end the stigma surrounding men’s skincare, as she doesn’t want anyone to feel as though they’re “not allowed” to care for their body.
Speaking to A$AP Rocky – who starred in her launch campaign – for Vogue’s ‘Face to Face’ series, she said: “Men love their skin, and they take care of it, but they feel obligated almost to only use products that are for men because anything beyond that feels too feminine, it’s not for them, they’re not allowed, they don’t have permission.”
Rihanna opted to make her Fenty Skin range as gender neutral as possible so that everyone could “feel included”, especially men.
She added: “The topic of inclusivity has become something that our brand has fallen upon, just by sincere and organic perspective. Like, my idea of beauty has always been a black woman, so the way I’ve expanded that idea was doing skincare in a more gender neutral idea where men feel included.”
And the ‘Work’ hitmaker would love to see even more inclusivity in the beauty industry, as she said she wishes the “leaders” of the industry were a “more diverse set of pioneers”.
She explained: “I wish the leaders of the beauty industry were a more diverse set of pioneers, who have not just experienced the culture but have experienced the negligence in the industry when it comes to skin tone or skin type.
“I feel like there’s so many voids to be filled, and we will only know that by the pioneers that have experienced those voids and the lack of their representation in the industry. So I think by having an eclectic array of skin types, skin tones, different cultures and people, and different representations of religions and cultures, you would have the most information on where to go next.”

Gisele Bundchen: Don’t go to bed wearing makeup!

OHMYGOSSIP — Gisele Bundchen never goes to bed wearing makeup.
The 40-year-old model has maintained an “evening cleansing routine” her entire life, and would never go to bed with makeup on, no matter how exhausted she is after a long day.
Sharing her number one skincare tip, she said: “Definitely never go to bed wearing makeup. I would work such long hours in all different kinds of makeup so the first thing I would do when I finished work was wash my face and make sure to go to sleep with cleansed skin.
“Sometimes I was so tired after working a long day that all I wanted to do was fall into bed, but I always kept an evening cleansing routine! It helped keep my skin looking fresh, no matter how many wild and fun looks I had during the day.”
Gisele prefers to keep her looks as minimalistic as possible, as her mother always taught her that “less is more”.
But when it comes to other people, the beauty’s best advice is to “find what works for you”.
She added: “Less is more. My mother taught me that and I have carried it through every aspect of my life and career. Through the years, I found that beauty comes from within and how you feel on the inside will reflect on the outside.
“The best advice I can give regarding beauty is find what works for you. No one person is created the same, so a beauty routine should feel personal to you and make you feel your best.”
And Gisele also urged people to embrace ageing, as although it can be “challenging”, she believes the process is a “beautiful thing and a natural part of life”.
Speaking to ELLE magazine, she said: “Age is a beautiful thing and a natural part of life, but it can also be challenging. It’s all a matter of how we look at it. Life is made by so many different experiences that shape who we are.
“The one thing about getting older is that you get more comfortable in your own skin. I love that every year that passes I get to learn new things and have the opportunity to use the tools I have acquired throughout my life to make a positive impact on the world.”

RuPaul always strives for bigger and better outfits

OHMYGOSSIP — RuPaul and his style team always strive to create an outfit “more amazing” than the last.
The 59-year-old drag queen has been working with his stylist, Zaldy, for almost three decades, including on every single look Ru has worn on his eponymously titled show, ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’.
And Zaldy has now opened up on what it’s like to dress RuPaul, as he says the focus is on making the outfits bigger and better than ever before, whilst still “respecting the iconic image of RuPaul”.
He said: “Within the world of drag, everything has been elevated to such a level that we’re always challenging ourselves within my studio to make something more and more amazing, and something that we may not have seen on Ru in the past. At the same time, [we’re] respecting the iconic image of RuPaul that we’ve created. Long and tall. The classic Ru look is a column gown, with an itty-bitty waist that accentuates the hips.”
Zaldy is a three-time Emmy-winning designer, and is nominated again at this year’s Emmy Awards – which will take place virtually – for the Outstanding Costumes For a Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Program category.
And the designer and Ru have worked together so often, that they don’t even need to attend any fittings for an outfit.
Zaldy added: “I know Ru’s body so well. Ru trusts that what I’m going to send is going to fit, and I believe that what I’m going to send is going to fit.”
The duo also team up with Ru’s hair and makeup team to create their striking looks, with the group often playing a game of “exquisite corpse”, in which everyone takes a turn adding something onto a character.
Speaking to Vogue, he said: “We play this amazing game, with the hair and makeup team, of Exquisite Corpse. We all come together and work off each other’s inspiration for the final package. Then Ru, as in all things, has the final say. Because as everyone knows, Mama Ru knows best.”

Aurora James: I’ll fight for my fashion brand

OHMYGOSSIP — Aurora James plans to fight “tooth and nail” for her fashion brand amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The 35-year-old fashion designer is the founder and creative director of Brother Vellies, a shoe and handbag brand which stocks handcrafted products from South Africa, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Morocco.
Following the global health crisis, many small businesses faced financial hardship and the fashion industry was hit hard, but Aurora has insisted she will continue to “fight for [her] company” to stay in business.
She said: “I’m a fighter. I started Brother Vellies at a flea market and fought my way into every scenario, tooth and nail. I’m always going to fight for my company – and for people that haven’t had the same opportunities.”
And Aurora says she wasn’t thinking about “shoes and handbags” when the coronavirus pandemic struck, as she was more worried about her “community” than her assets.
She added: “[I thought] ‘Oh, no – my little hive’s in trouble.’ I’ve always thought of Brother Vellies as this community, and here we all were, watching the world collapse – it was like a movie. The last thing you’re thinking about are shoes and handbags.”
The designer – who is of Canadian and Ghanian descent – also explained how she came up with the idea for her brand, saying she wanted to help uplift communities without erasing their heritage.
She said: When the British came to South Africa and saw the shoes they made – the veldskoene, or vellies, a rawhide design originated by the nation’s Khoisan people – they took those ideas and founded Clarks. When I went, there were a few workshops still making them, and they were at risk, so I started working with them on new colours and shapes. Brother Vellies was born out of that.”
Aurora is also behind the 15 Percent Pledge campaign following the Black Lives Matter movement, which sees major retailers in the US agree to commit to buying at least 15 percent of their stock from Black-owned businesses.
Speaking to Vogue about the campaign, she explained: “I saw all these people and companies saying how they stood with me and supported Black Lives Matter. I was reading it but not feeling it – there was an emotional disconnect. I processed it in two ways: first as a Black woman and then as a businessperson.
“A lot of people, when they’re starting movements, they’ll do focus groups and think tanks, but this was just my ask as a businesswoman – and I wanted to put it out while these retailers were busy telling me all these things that just didn’t resonate with me as a human.”

Alicia Silverstone didn’t care about fashion before Clueless

OHMYGOSSIP — Alicia Silverstone didn’t have “any interest” in fashion before starring in ‘Clueless’.
The 43-year-old actress starred as fashion-obsessed teen Cher Horowitz in the 1995 movie – which recently celebrated its 25th birthday – but has said she had no “understanding” of fashion or style before she landed the role.
She said: “Before ‘Clueless’, I didn’t have any interest or understanding about fashion. The clothes are the star of the film – or at least the costar!”
Alicia developed her love of fashion thanks to the movie, and can now appreciate the iconic looks worn by her character, including the famous yellow plaid suit, which consisted of a plaid Dolce & Gabbana skirt with a matching jacket, Mary Jane shoes, white knee-high socks, a white tee, and yellow cardigan.
Speaking about the iconic outfit, she said: “In the early ’90s, fashion was heavily influenced by Nirvana and Kurt Cobain. It’s a nod to a school girl uniform, but in an elevated, chic, very high-fashion way. And it’s so absurd. Immediately you’re transformed and you know the world that you’re in, because that’s not how kids dress to go to school.”
However, the actress says the outfit almost didn’t make the cut.
She added: “There were three options for this opening scene: a blue version, a red version, and a yellow version. Amy [Heckerling, the movie’s director] and Mona [May, the costume designer] chose the yellow one because they felt it was the most appropriate for the scene.”
The outfit has become so iconic that Alicia gets pictures sent to her “every single Halloween” of people dressed as Cher Horowitz in their own yellow garb, but the original has apparently been lost forever.
Alicia told Vogue magazine: “No one knows where that yellow plaid outfit is.”

Jessica Simpson: I won’t get Botox

OHMYGOSSIP — Jessica Simpson won’t get Botox.
The ‘Open Book’ author uses red light therapy to help “tighten” her skin, and says she doesn’t want to begin cosmetic procedures such as Botox injections, because she doesn’t want to risk losing her “expressions” in her face.
When asked about her beauty routine, she said: “I got really into red light therapy. I went down a rabbit hole on this amazing facialist and I was like, ‘Okay, I need something to tighten my skin, I just turned 40. I don’t want to get Botox, I like my expressions. That’s what makes me who I am.’
“I mean, I understand Botox, but if I can just put a red light on my face, that’s amazing and it’s not something I have to pay for every time. I’m not endorsing that or anything, I really do believe in it. If I’m laying there with the red light on my face, it does put me into a meditative state of mind and I can just play music or a podcast or just get centred, but also know that I’m Benjamin Buttoning myself.”
Jessica, 40, recently opened up on Instagram about her battle with eczema, and says she decided to come forward with her struggle after keeping it a secret since her childhood because she wanted to be “transparent” with her fans.
Speaking to InStyle magazine, she said: “I’m always open about my insecurities, and I feel like I’m pretty transparent. I do believe that there is a way that we can find confidence in ourselves. I’ve had eczema since I was a kid. It’s not really anything that I’ve ever talked about, and I don’t really know why to be honest.
“I think because I had it a lot when I was in junior high and high school. Some of my memories of it when I was younger was being a cheerleader and then having to throw a sweatshirt on really quick after doing a routine or practice, even though it was so hot in Texas. They hug in Texas, so everybody would always come up and hug me and be like, ‘What’s on your arms?’ I would just blame it on a heat rash.”

Duchess Meghan’s style would have gotten the seal of approval from Joan Rivers

OHMYGOSSIP — Brad Goreski thinks the late Joan Rivers would have loved Duchess Meghan’s fashion sense.
The 43-year-old television personality worked with the late actress – who passed away in 2014 – and her daughter Melissa Rivers on the celebrity fashion critique show ‘Fashion Police’, and has said he’s sure that the style choices of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, would have received top marks from the Hollywood icon.
He said: “Meghan has really good style. So I don’t know if there would be really much to touch there. Joan’s voice was specific and so unique that it’s very hard to think what she would come up with. But I’m sure she would be having a lot of fun as she always did with everyone in Hollywood.”
And Brad himself is also a fan of the 38-year-old royal – who was known as Meghan Markle and was an actress before she married Prince Harry in 2018 – as he applauded her for using her platform for good.
He added to Us Weekly magazine: “I love her style and I love what she’s doing with her platform, her and Harry.
“[Me and my husband, Gary Janetti, are] fans of them. We both love the royal family. What Meghan has done in the royal family and outside of it now is just extraordinary.”
Meanwhile, Meghan – who has 15-month-old son Archie with Harry – was named 2019’s Most Powerful Fashion Icon in Lyst’s Year in Fashion report last year.
The former ‘Suits’ actress’ outfits sparked, on average, a whopping 216 per cent increase in searches for something similar.
Her love of shirt dresses on the Royal Tour of South Africa saw searches for these grow by 45 per cent whilst her Club Monaco dress sold out in less than a day, with a 570 per cent spike in searches about it. Wearing a J Crew skirt saw searches from the brand grow by over 100 per cent.

Gemma Collins to release clothing line

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Collins is set to release her first full clothing line.
The former ‘The Only Way is Essex’ star found fashion success with her meme-inspired T-shirt and sweater collection for online fast fashion giant In The Style, and she’s now set to team up with the retailer for another range.
Gemma, 39, has negotiated a £500,000 deal with In The Style to design her first full clothing line to be sold exclusively on the fashion giant’s website.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “She’s made a mint for In The Style – her meme range was a sell-out and stars like Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall were seen wearing her designs.
“They were desperate to get her on board for a whole collection and Gemma signed without hesitation.
“She flew to Greece to shoot images and fans will get to see it all, as she’s filming the next run of her show ‘Diva’ while out there.”
Meanwhile, Gemma has been on a mission to lose weight in recent months, having said late last year she was planning to have shed three stone by Christmas.
Speaking in September, she said: “I want to lose another three stone between now and Christmas. I don’t want to be stick thin, I just want to be a lot healthier.”
The blonde beauty credits SkinnyJab – which is an injection designed to help reduce cravings and aid weight loss – with helping her lose weight, and believes the injections are more effective than dieting.
She added: “I’ve done every diet, from the cabbage soup to the Kate Moss to the Beyonce treacle diet, and none have worked.
