Tyra Banks sees a ‘hopeful tomorrow’ amid pandemic

OHMYGOSSIP — Tyra Banks sees a “very hopeful tomorrow” – despite the ongoing threat of coronavirus.
The 46-year-old model admitted she’s currently struggling to remain positive due to the health crisis, but she’s more optimistic about the long-term future.
She explained: “It’s very difficult for me to look in the mirror and think about [being] hopeful for myself, especially when I turn on the news.
“But I feel hopeful about a cure, about a vaccine. I feel that we’re going to be better from that, that we’re going to be connecting more than ever.”
Tyra believes the pandemic has made so-called smizing – which means smiling with the eyes – more important than ever.
She told Glamour magazine: “Smizing has been totally transformed.
“Now I see nurses and doctors on social media making videos about how smizing is allowing them to connect with people because they have to wear a mask all day and can only connect with their eyes. So I foresee a very hopeful tomorrow.”
Despite this, Tyra acknowledged that the “uncertainty” created by the pandemic has undermined some of her business ambitions.
The model – who is set to host the new series of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ – shared: “The other side is scared as hell because there’s so much uncertainty.
“I’m starting this [ice cream] company, Smize Cream, and we’re doing amazing things, but we’re holding back because of so much uncertainty.
“But I’m hopeful that I will be able to hire so many people and take their careers to the next level – especially people of colour.”

Marc Jacobs launches a new polysexual line

OHMYGOSSIP — Marc Jacobs has launched a new polysexual line called Heaven.
The 57-year-old designer has announced the launch via social media, revealing that Heaven focuses on the “DIY spirit that connects subcultures around the world”.
An Instagram post read: “Welcome to HEAVEN [cloud emoji] Introducing a polysexual collection by Marc Jacobs.
“HEAVEN draws upon the origins of the Marc Jacobs impulse: subversion, teenage daydreams, alienation nation, queer youth, toxic shock valley girls, candy ravers, apocalypse sugar, psychedelic fantasia, girls who are boys and boys who are girls, those who are neither, negative space, day-glo dystopia, suburban euphoria and the multifaceted characters who have made up the Marc Jacobs universe for the past 30 years.
“HEAVEN centers the D.I.Y. spirit that connects subcultures around the world and recontextualizes them for a new generation. (sic)”
The new line is also being billed as an “ode to otherness”.
The post continued: “HEAVEN pays tribute to the films of the new queer pioneer Gregg Araki, the street style microculture of FRUiTS magazine, the plushy sculptures of Mike Kelley and the shifting identities of Cindy Sherman. An ode to otherness.
“Let HEAVEN be your brand of bliss today.
“Available now at marcjacobs.com and all Marc Jacobs stores. (sic)”
Meanwhile, Marc previously admitted to taking inspiration from various places for his eye-catching designs.
Speaking about his creative process, he explained: “It’s all about creative choice, making sketches, fittings, collaging – however it happens to get to the end result.
“Sometimes I sit with a shoe, or look at a silhouette. Sometimes the design team inspires me and brings in things they’re interested in. I think, oh, I’d like to use this.
“Other times I don’t know what I want. It’s a magpie aesthetic: if something is hideous, that’s interesting. It’s kind of the same sensibility that Andy Warhol had. He was interested in everything and soaked up what he saw like a sponge.”

Rochelle Humes stops her daughter from modelling

OHMYGOSSIP — Rochelle Humes has banned her daughter from modelling.
The 31-year-old star – who has Alaia-Mai, seven, and Valentina, three, with Marvin Humes – has revealed she recently blocked her youngest daughter from entering the modelling world.
Rochelle said: “Someone stopped me and asked if they could sign her to a little kids’ agency and I was like, ‘You have no idea what she would be like. No. If you want the shoot to last four days because she won’t be listening, then sure.'”
Rochelle is currently pregnant with a baby boy, and she’s decided to take a longer maternity leave this time around.
She explained: “He is due in four and a half weeks.
“I’m taking longer maternity leave this time than I’ve ever taken. It’s a real treat for me to finish almost five weeks early.”
Rochelle joined The Saturdays in 2007 and while many of her bandmates have subsequently gone on to forge solo careers, she’s not interested in following the same path.
Rochelle – who has turned her attention to TV presenting in recent years – said on Instagram Live: “I’ve such fond memories and I love the girls, obviously, but no, I have no desire to do it by myself.
“I’ve got no desire to be in the studio doing a solo album.”
Meanwhile, Rochelle recently revealed she’s teaching her children about racial equality.

Gisele Bundchen recommends meditation to combat anxiety

OHMYGOSSIP — Gisele Bundchen has recommended “breathing and meditation tools” to help combat anxiety and panic attacks.
The 40-year-old model has revealed via an Instagram post that she needed a “supportive push” in order to emerge from a “vicious cycle of worry”.
Gisele – who is married to sports star Tom Brady – wrote on the photo-sharing platform: “From my own experience I learned that nothing is permanent.
“Sometimes a gentle reminder that the bad feelings will eventually go away can work like a beacon of hope.
“Anxiety can feel all-consuming, and sometimes we need a supportive push to help break us out of our vicious cycle of worry.
“My own panic attacks were difficult for me, and I sought help.
“In moments like these, family, friends and specialists can help, and so can breathing and meditation tools.
“The most important thing is to move away from inertia and look for alternatives.
“Life is our greatest gift–and every day is worth it.”
Meanwhile, in May, a source close to Gisele and Tom claimed the coronavirus lockdown had been a “gift” for the couple.
The loved-up duo reportedly relished the opportunity to spend quality time together at their home in Florida.
The insider said: “With the quarantine, it’s a challenge for them like any other parents trying to stick to a normal routine in the household.
“But this added time together is such a gift. They’re making the most of it during the off-season and prioritising family time before training really kicks into high gear for Tom.”

Tyra Banks wants to make a ‘spoof of America’s Next Top Model’

OHMYGOSSIP — Tyra Banks is planning to make a “spoof of ‘America’s Next Top Model'”.
The 46-year-old star – who created the long-running series – has revealed she’s been busily working on making the “highly self-deprecating” show, as well as other TV projects.
She shared: “We have some huge game show ideas, as well as strong scripted content. There’s a project that’s actually a spoof of ‘America’s Next Top Model’, but it’s scripted and highly self-deprecating.
“People are like, ‘You’re okay to make fun of yourself like that?’ And I say, ‘That was a character.’ We have beautiful cartoon [ideas] because I see it as huge business. And we have a big project with my mom too.”
Tyra – who is set to host the new series of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ – has also teased details of what fans can expect from her deal with ABC Signature Studios.
Speaking about her TV ambitions, she told Glamour magazine: “We’ve got to be flashy, we’ve got to stand out, because there’s so much good TV right now. We have to be unafraid.
“After our deal was signed, one of the scripted-programming executives said, ‘Wow, you’re wanting to make some noise! You want to make some change in the world but you also want to make people laugh. You guys are not trying to be safe. I love it!’ That just touched me.
“[My team is] an all female crew and we sit around the table and we beat an idea over and over and over again [until it’s ready to present].
“We will do seven decks on one show idea because I’m like, ‘We need to add an idea, we need to twist it, flip it, make it louder, make it flashier.’ So for us to deliver that and get that kind of feedback, it’s like, ‘Oh my God, it’s working.'”

Elle Macpherson says lifestyle change made her feel ‘completely different’

OHMYGOSSIP — Elle Macpherson felt like a “completely different woman” after changing her diet.
The 56-year-old model consulted Dr Simone Laubscher in 2008 in a bid to change her wellness regime, after admitting her previous approach was no longer working for her.
She shared: “It gets to a point where what you’ve done your whole life doesn’t work anymore.
“I’d always been interested in wellness … And when I had children, I was watching my body evolve and I wanted to learn more about how to support it through all the different phases of my life.”
Elle approached Dr Laubscher more than a decade ago, and the changes she’s subsequently implemented made a huge difference.
She explained: “The incredible Dr Lauscher introduced me to a plant-based diet and explained the importance of having an alkaline body and dietary approach.
“In the beginning, Dr Laubscher put me on this super greens powder which has about 50 ingredients that amplify and boost each other as a sort of multi-vitamin and mineral.”
Elle admits to being astonished by the difference the changes made to her body.
The model told Rosie Huntington-Whiteley on a podcast: “I was a completely different woman.
“I had lost weight, I was vibrant, my hair, skin and nails were glowing, and I said I couldn’t believe the changes.”
Earlier this year, Elle admitted to feeling happier and healthier than ever before.
The model also claimed that “real beauty is soul deep, not skin deep”.
She shared: “I don’t feel the pressure to look a certain way any more – I’m much more interested in my wellbeing. I believe real beauty is soul deep, not skin deep. It’s a way of being, a way of living.”

Kim Jones replaces Karl Lagerfeld at Fendi

OHMYGOSSIP — Kim Jones is set to replace Karl Lagerfeld at Fendi.
The 46-year-old designer will be responsible for Fendi’s haute couture, ready-to-wear and fur collections for women.
Jones will also retain his position at Dior Men’s, having taken on that role in June 2018.
Fendi’s chief executive, Serge Brunschwig, has hailed the appointment, describing Jones as “one of the most talented and relevant designers of today”.
The London-born designer is also looking forward to the challenge of his new role.
He said: “Working across two such prestigious houses is a true honour as a designer and to be able to join the house of Fendi as well as continuing my work at Dior Men’s is a huge privilege.”
Jones is poised to present his first fashion show for Fendi during Milan Fashion Week in February.
The designer previously explained that he puts consumers and their ideas at the centre of his work.
He said: “I just get on with what I need to do … I know it sounds dreary and unfun. [But] seeing the success of the collections and the sales being really positive is great. That makes me want to do better and push myself.
“Consumers are the most important thing, though. You listen to them, meet them in stores, meet them in the street, ask them questions.
“Listening is half my job. It’s also common sense. It sounds boring but it really is.”
Jones also thinks relatability has been one of the keys to his success.
He explained: “People want to relate to the person behind the brand and I’m quite relatable, so I think that’s a part of my success.
“I talk to everyone, all the young designers. It’s nice [that] if they’re going through a thing that I’ve been through myself I can then help them.”

Meanwhile, the music star previously admitted to being obsessed with make-up and beauty by the time she was 12.

Stella McCartney says her new range ‘can do it all’

OHMYGOSSIP — Stella McCartney’s new line “can do it all”.
The 48-year-old designer has created Stellawear, a new range that merges her swimwear and lingerie collections, and Stella has explained her distinctive approach to the line.
She shared: “I wanted to create a new collection that was both multi-functional and kind to the planet.
“I was looking for something that sculpted my body in all the right places, but that I could also work out in or wear as outerwear, that I could wear with jeans, run into the pool, and then dry super quickly to head off to lunch.”
The new range has been created using recycled nylon and is the designer’s most eco-friendly of her career.
Speaking about her approach, she told Vogue magazine: “It was important to me to design something that was made to last and inspires people to buy less and wear more.
“We tested the products in chlorine and saltwater, and designed them to be versatile in how they are worn and styled.”
Earlier this year, Stella claimed the time had come to “scream and shout” about sustainability.
The acclaimed designer argued there is now an “urgency for change”.
She said: “Challenging and questioning things has been drilled into me since I was a kid.
“Over the years I have sat back, quietly working on my sustainability projects in the background. But now, more than ever, there is an urgency for change. If we have to scream and shout to achieve it, then we need to do that to drive action.”

Kelly Brook: Dress to embrace curves

OHMYGOSSIP — Kelly Brook believes “curvy” women should wear “tight-fitting” clothes.
The 40-year-old model loves to wear “really skinny” jeans to accentuate her shape and thinks wearing baggy garments can make people look bigger than they really are.
She said: “I think denim on curvy girls looks fantastic. I always feel like the curvier you are, the more tight fitting the clothes should be because you don’t want to disguise your curves, you want to accentuate them and show them off.
“If you have things that are overly baggy it can make you look bigger and be really unflattering – so I’m all up for a really skinny tight jean for a curvy bum.”
The brunette beauty praised the fashion industry for how much it has changed in terms of inclusivity and celebrating different body types since she began her own career.
She told Britain’s OK! magazine: “I think most brands are supporting positivity and diversity now and I think there is such pressure on brands to do that.
“It’s great to see women of all colours, shapes, sizes and heights modelling.
“Back in my modelling days you couldn’t be a model unless you were 5ft 10in – nowadays you don’t get those restrictions, you can be anything you want, at any time, which I think is great, it gives everybody an opportunity – that’s the whole point.”
When it comes to her personal style, the Heart DJ – who is in a relationship with Jeremy Parisi – is less “experimental” than she used to be because she’s learned what does and doesn’t look good on her.
She said: “I guess I’m less experimental than I used to be.
“I now know what suits me and what doesn’t, whereas in my teens I’d always try things on that did not suit my body type at all. Nowadays, I just stick to what fits me.”

Lenny Kravitz fronting Y campaign for YSL

OHMYGOSSIP — Lenny Kravitz was delighted to be asked to front a campaign for “iconic” Yves Saint Laurent’s fragrance Y.
The ‘Fly Away’ hitmaker is the new global ambassador for the fashion house’s popular scent and admitted he’s been a fan of the “classic” brand for years.
He told WWD: “The brand is classic, it’s iconic.
“I’m a big fan of Mr. Saint Laurent and what he accomplished, his artistry. I’ve been following the brand for years and years.
“I’ve been wearing Saint Laurent for ages. I feel as though so many of those clothes are made for me — they really fit my aesthetic, my silhouette, my lifestyle, and so when the brand approached me to do this collaboration, I was instantly on board.”
The 56-year-old rocker was first introduced to YSL when he used to play in his mother’s closest as a child.
Asked his first memories of the brand, he said: “That would have been back in the early Seventies, when my mother was wearing Yves Saint Laurent.
“My mother had great style, and she used to wear all kinds of beautiful garments. She’d be dressed [in the fashion], but I also used to as a kid play in her closet.
“I loved all the stuff she had in her closet — really colorful and vibrant, and had a lot of flair.
“She had great accessories, and I used to pretend to be a rock ‘n’ roll musician. I’d play with her clothes. Scarves and belts and boots and jackets — all kind of stuff.”
Lenny remembers how grown up he felt when he first started wearing fragrance.
He said: “I’d say [it] was by junior high school, when the guys start wearing cologne. That’s one of the signs that you are growing up, right? You shave and you wear cologne…
“I’m sure it was me playing around with my grandfather’s Old Spice.”

Celeste wants to show affordable style with H+M

OHMYGOSSIP — Celeste agreed to be the face of H&M because she wanted to show her fans that looking good doesn’t have to cost a lot of money.
The 26-year-old star is fronting H&M Studio’s autumn/winter 2020 campaign and admitted she was attracted to the campaign because she remembered what it was like trying to style herself on a budget.
She said: “I didn’t want to shy away from working with H&M, because I grew up with hardly any money and I think it’s important for young people to feel good about what they are wearing.”
Referencing her young cousins, who have been longing for an £800 jacket, she added: “It becomes a pressure and it’s not attainable.”
The ‘Strange’ singer wants to urge people to shop with longevity in mind.
She told Vogue.co.uk: “I’ll place emphasis on cherishing the clothes for as long as possible when posting…
“H&M has always felt familiar to me. This campaign interested me because it allowed me to self style things I would normally wear and which have longevity. I hope others who buy these garments find this [sense of timelessness], too.
“I look for things I would wear in decades to come, not just my 20s.”
Despite her appearance in the campaign, Celeste doesn’t want to be regarded as an influencer.
She said: “I hope that’s not the perception of me as I do more stuff with brands.
“I’ve always had my own style, but music comes first. I guess I am in a position of influence but it’s not my desired job title.”

Maisie Williams feared fashion judgement

OHMYGOSSIP — Maisie Williams was “scared” to “express [herself]” on the red carpet.
The 23-year-old actress – who shot to fame playing Arya Stark in ‘Game of Thrones’ when she was just 14 years old – has always been “curious” about fashion but was worried she’d be judged for her choices, though these days she’s much more relaxed about showing off her personal style.
She said: “I was always curious but I didn’t know how to represent myself.
“I was very fearful of being judged and I was too scared to express myself. I have learnt to embrace who I am and have my own opinions and style myself the way that makes me feel good and proud.
“Growing up, it’s anyway hard to experiment for fear of being judged, but also being in the public eye made it that much more terrifying. I’m still learning now, but really in the last 18 months I think my style has become more refined.”
Maisie is one of the faces of Cartier and admitted she likes the Pasha de Cartier watch because it has “never been specifically gendered”, which echoes her own sartorial choices.
She added to ST Fashion magazine: “And I would say that my style is very much like that. I have a lot of influence from when I was growing up with my brothers and the way that they would dress.
“We’re all becoming more accustomed to the fluidity of clothing and identity, and I really try to carry that with me as much as I can.”
Meanwhile, the ‘New Mutants’ star is excited about the future now she’s finally put a plan in place.
She said: “I do have a bit of a plan for the first time.
“Through my whole career I haven’t set any goals, and it’s been fine, but recently I’ve been like, ‘OK, let’s try and manipulate this situation we’re in and nail down some things I want to do.’
“It’s been really helpful, even from a mental health perspective, feeling like there’s some sort of direction. I’m not just floating through the world and waiting to see. Now I’ve got an idea.”

Laura Whitmore backs TK Maxx’s Cancer Research campaign

OHMYGOSSIP — Laura Whitmore and Anita Rani are encouraging fans to Give Up Their Clothes for Good.
The two presenters have teamed up with TK Maxx to support the retailer’s annual initiative, which calls for people to donate pre-loved clothes, accessories and homeware to raise money for Cancer Research UK for Children & Young People
‘Love Island’ host Laura was delighted to be involved in the “incredible” campaign for the third year running.
She said: “Give Up Clothes for Good is such an incredible initiative and this will be my third year getting involved. After being in lockdown for so long, many of us will have been lounging in nothing but our PJ’s and sportswear, so there will be thousands of pre-loved clothes just sitting in our wardrobes that could go to better use and raise money for life-saving research.
“A tidy cupboard also means a tidy mind, so I would urge people to dig out their clothes and give them to this great cause.”
And Anita thinks the campaign offers people to show more kindness.
She said: “It’s been so moving watching the resilience of the nation during the coronavirus outbreak and I would love to encourage people to continue showing their kind spirit by donating their pre-loved clothes.
“Something so simple can go such a long way. It can have a huge impact, not just on the planet, but also to the lives of children and young people affected by cancer.”.
People can drop items off at their local TK Maxx store, and the retailer will then ensure they reach Cancer Research UK shops to be sold on and be loved somewhere else.
Since the launch of the campaign 14 years ago, over 1.7 million bags of clothing and household goods have been collected, and TK Maxx have raised over £37 million for Cancer Research UK’s work for children and young people.

Stella McCartney launches unisex collection

OHMYGOSSIP — Stella McCartney has launched a “genderless” fashion line.
The 48-year-old fashion designer released a range of unisex puffer jackets as part of her sustainable ‘Our Stella McCartney Shared’ campaign in hopes it will inspire people to express “individuality, diversity, and positivity in the face of climate change and social revolution”.
In a statement, she said: “Staying true to [our] commitment to sustainability, jersey t-shirts and sweatshirts are made from 100 percent organic cotton – using up to 70 percent less water than conventional cotton and no toxic chemicals or pesticides.
“Recycled polyester was also used for the capsule collection’s parkas, reducing the need for virgin petroleum-based materials.”
The streetwear collection includes a tote bag, shirts, sweaters, trousers, trench coats, featherless and cruelty-free puffer jackets, and structured hiking boots.
It comes after Stella launched a limited edition clothing line made entirely from leftover materials earlier this year.
Stella – the daughter of Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney – is well-known for her environmentally-conscious clothes, but it’s the first time she has put together pieces which are from waste from her previous collections.
There are 90 pieces in total and each item contains a note thanking the buyer for making the choice to buy a sustainable piece of clothing.
Stella said: “I think in order to have sustainability in fashion, you need to think in advance.
“You need to think about everything in a circular way and in its entirety and at the end of the day a lot of it is about waste, you know, ‘Waste not, want not, do unto the planet as you would have them do unto you’.
“We have to stop and consider the waste, it’s spiralled out of control.”
The recycled line comes after she recently insisted there hasn’t been a more important time than now to “scream and shout” about sustainability.
She said: “Challenging and questioning things has been drilled into me since I was a kid.
“Over the years I have sat back, quietly working on my sustainability projects in the background. But now, more than ever, there is an urgency for change. If we have to scream and shout to achieve it, then we need to do that to drive action.”

Carol Alt was sexually harassed on fake photo shoots

OHMYGOSSIP — Carol Alt was sexually harassed in the 1980s by men pretending to be photographers.
The Sports Illustrated icon – who appeared on the cover of the 1982 swimsuit issue – has revealed she was often approached by older men who would offer the opportunity to take part in photo shoots, which turned out to be bogus.
Speaking on Bill McCuddy’s podcast, ‘The Accutron Show’, she said: “There were a lot of not nice people. I had been stopped on the street many times. I was 18 and they would say, ‘Oh my god, you look like a model,’ and offer me shoots. They asked me to come with them right then to their studio.”
Although she had to navigate seedy behaviour when she was starting out, Carol was protected from the potential dark corners of the industry once she signed for a professional agency.
Remembering the best advice she was ever given, she recalled: “The best advice my agency ever gave me was have the person call us. If they are legit they will call and you get the job. If they are not legit, they will never call.”
Carol was scouted when she was just a teenager before gracing the covers of several high profile magazines, including Vogue and her iconic Sports Illustrated shoot, and she went on to grace the cover of over 500 magazines making her one of the most successful models of the 80s.
She then decided to become an actress in 1987, starting with her debut in ‘My First Forty Years’.
The ‘Private Parts’ star would still take a friend along with her to audition for films to make sure it was “legitimate” and not another way for men to prey on her.
She said: “I was always smart because, if the agency sent you on an early morning to meet a producer, I always brought a girlfriend to stand outside the door.
“Funny enough, I auditioned for Steven Spielberg in a hotel room, but there were people there and I knew it was legitimate. You have to protect yourself and kind of let them know, and say, my friend is outside, can they come in, you do it innocently.”
