Khloe Kardashian: Makeup and skincare is ‘essentially in my DNA’

OHMYGOSSIP — Khloe Kardashian says makeup and skincare is “essentially in her DNA”.
The ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ star – who has daughter True with ex Tristan Thompson – has an “approach to beauty” that’s completely unique to herself, but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t taken “some tips and tricks” from others.
She shared: “Makeup and skincare is essentially in my DNA.
“I’ve taken some tips and tricks from what others were doing but I have an approach to beauty that’s all my own.”
And Khloe admits she doesn’t like to “stick with one look for too long” as she feels beauty should be “anything but boring”.
She added: “I never like to stick with one look for too long. Short hair, major glam, bright lips – you name a look, I’ve tried it.
“You get to be a different character every single day and experiment. To me, beauty should be anything but boring. It’s a form of self-expression. There’s really no right or wrong, it’s more about how it makes you feel.”
The 36-year-old reality television star is back to brunette now after a stint as a blonde and she is having “a lot of fun” with her new look.
She shared: “I’m having a lot of fun as a ‘new’ brunette.
“I love to change things up whenever I’m getting too comfortable with a look. It’s whatever makes you feel more playful and daring.”
And when it comes to her beauty staples, Khloe can’t go anywhere without a sample size of mascara as it is compact enough to fit in her purse.
She told People magazine: “I now cannot live without this sample-size mascara. I never leave the house without mascara, but I find that it can dry out pretty quickly. With the smaller size, I get this little compact tube that I can carry on the go, and it never dries out before I run out. Genius!”

Meanwhile, it was previously revealed that the 39-year-old singer/songwriter’s new brand is “not another celebrity beauty line”.
E.l.f’s head of corporate communications, Melinda Fried, said: “This is not another ‘celebrity beauty line’. Because Alicia is more than an icon, she’s an inspiration. In her song lyrics, numerous interviews and editorials, and in her (new book), she has openly and honestly shared her skin struggles, her frustration with society’s unrealistic beauty ideals and her own journey to finding clarity, strength and a deeper knowledge of her real self. Now, through this new project, she aims to help others find that same place of peace and power within themselves.”
The new line will “encompass multiple beauty categories and Alicia “has been very involved in the creative process”.
E.l.f. chief executive officer, Tarang Amin, added: “She’s been wanting to do something in beauty and wellness for quite some time. What really appealed to us is she’s much more than a celebrity, she’s someone of real substance who goes between being a 15-time Grammy Award winner and artist [and] she’s got a New York Times bestseller in her book, ‘More Myself’.
“This was really a great marriage between what she stands for and wants to accomplish in beauty and wellness and what we stand for.”

Jodie Comer’s eyeliner struggle

OHMYGOSSIP — Jodie Comer has only just mastered winged eyeliner.
The 27-year-old actress is thankful for the tips she’s received with her frequent make-up artist Alex Babsky because her own efforts don’t always look the way she wants them to.
She told Refinery 29: “Recently, Alex was doing an eyeliner look on me that was kind of like a cat eye but so subtle and gorgeous
” I always want to do a little flick but it always ends up on my forehead. I’m always trying to level it out and it always gets bigger and bigger.
“He gave me a top tip, though: start it from the centre of your eye and then wing it out, starting with a pencil and then a felt-tip liquid liner.”
And the ‘Killing Eve’ star’s make-up artist has also taught her a few tricks to make her features look bigger and to stand out more.
She added: “Another tip I learned is that once your lips are done, going around them with a little bit of concealer makes them seem a bit sharper and fuller.
“I really love a white or off-white eyeliner in my waterline to make my eyes look bigger, too, that’s a really nice touch. I also don’t put any mascara on my lower lashes, as it makes my eyes look smaller.
“But skin prep is also important. Whenever Hung Vanngo does my make-up, there is a face wash and a cleanser and two sheet masks and all of these things beforehand!”
When she isn’t working, Jodie’s make-up look is minimal.
She said: “”I like concealer and a little eyebrow gel so I don’t have to fill in my brows. I use MAC Brow Set in Clear because that stuff does not shift.
“I also have to have my Kevyn Aucoin eyelash curlers and I also like a nice cream blush, something super natural.”

When it comes to her own skin, the ‘Enola Holmes’ star sets aside the time to give herself a facial every week.

Meanwhile, Millie admitted filming her ‘Enola Holmes’ fight scenes in a corset and ballgown was initially difficult, but she eventually felt so comfortable, she forgot all about the restrictive garments.
She said: “I trained for a really long time with the stunt department, focusing on choreography.
“There are moments when you think, ‘I could do without this giant wooden thing wrapped around me,’ but I definitely got used to it.

In an interview with WWD, Charlize said: “Being the face of such an iconic perfume as J’adore for more than 15 years has been such an honour, and Dior has been such a collaborative and supportive partner. It’s been an ideal match, since so much of what Dior stands for and behind really resonates for me. In particular, the celebration of women and the incredible talent, passion and altruism of women. The empowerment inherent in #Diorstandswithwomen and #Diorchinup [as the project is also known] are the values that I, and all of us at CTAOP, also believe strongly in. And J’adore has also always embodied these same values in a natural way. I’m so proud to have collaborated on so many incredible campaigns and looking forward to continuing this beautiful tradition.”
Dior has also launched the #Diorstandswithwomen campaign to celebrate powerful females, including interviews with Charlize and and fellow face of Dior, Cara Delevingne.

Tracee Ellis Ross: I don’t miss the ‘frenetic energy of the red carpet’

OHMYGOSSIP — Tracee Ellis Ross doesn’t miss the “frenetic energy of the red carpet” as she got dressed up to celebrate the Emmys from home.
The ‘Blackish’ star donned a stunning gold Alexandre Vauthier gown for the event, which took place virtually on Sunday (20.09.20) due to the coronavirus pandemic.
She wrote: “How fun to get dressed up! Can’t say I miss the frenetic energy of the red carpet or wearing high heels, but boy do I miss a pretty dress!! #blackish #emmys … Dress: @alexandrevauthier. Shoes: @jimmychoo. Jewels: vintage @tiffanyandco. Stylist: @karlawelchstylist. Makeup: @muatraceylevy. Hair: moi using @patternbeauty (sic)”
Tracee – who donned a matching gold mask for the photographs – also showed off her homemade red carpet.
She shared in a separate post: “I made my own red carpet for the #Emmys, complete with some camera clicks … yes it’s a little janky, but hey – it was fun! #blackish (sic)”
Meanwhile, Tracee previously insisted her red carpet outfits must make her “heart sing” and loves being able to be “creative”.
She said: “I’m partnered with a joyous stylist, Karla Welch. When I have an event coming up, I’ll send her inspiration pictures or we’ll come up with a theme, but mostly I just wear what makes my heart sing. Clothing for me started out as armour and now it’s truly a form of creative expression.”
Tracee also has her own haircare brand and revealed she would love to make her new venture into a beauty empire.
Asked if it could be the start of a beauty empire, she explained: “Absolutely! I’m a beauty lover, I love running a business and I love seeing the results of it. Right now, my shower is filled with Pattern products. It’s thrilling and there are so many other things that I use in the bathroom that I would love to have the name ‘Pattern’ on.”

Billy Porter: My style is ‘free’

OHMYGOSSIP — Billy Porter would describe his style as “free”.
The ‘Pose’ star admits he has “worked a long time to find a space” where he isn’t worried what other people think.
Speaking in an interview posted on Instagram’s official account, he said: “I would describe my style as free. I’ve worked a long time to find a space where I don’t care what other people think about me. That’s a real interesting and hard place to get to. I’m there. I’m free.”
Meanwhile, Billy previously insisted he has never thought about defining his red carpet style and has hailed his style “undefinable and unpredictable”.
He said: “That’s a really interesting question. I’ve never really thought about defining it. I would say it’s undefinable. I don’t even know what it is sometimes. I’m putting one foot in front of the other and I am trying to be as true and as honest to what I feel I want to do at any given time, so unpredictable.”
Instead, Billy puts his outfits together by defining the event and creating a deeper meaning with his style.
He added: “We decide by first trying to define what the moment is. What the event is about and then we go from there. I’m a very story-oriented person coming from being an actor, so I always try to have a narrative for myself so that there is always a reason and there’s always a point. I want to be a walking piece of art – political art – whenever I can, any time I show up. I let other people say that [I’m a fashion icon]. You know, show business is hard because you borderline on confidence and arrogance, so I’m trying to be on the confidence side. I’m going to let other people call me a fashion icon at least for the next couple of years and then I’ll do it myself. But that’s what people are saying.”

Jameela Jamil: No bra? No problem

OHMYGOSSIP — Jameela Jamil embraced wearing “no bra [and] no heels” to the Emmy Awards.
The ‘Good Place’ star donned a pair of pyjamas and a sequined robe to connect to Sunday’s (20.09.20) ceremony from the comfort of her own home and she admitted she enjoyed not having to dress up and walk a red carpet at the event.
She shared a photo of herself in her glamorous loungewear on Instagram and wrote: “No bra? No heels? NO PROBLEM.
“Wearing PJ’s to the 72nd Emmy awards (from my house) is my kind of vibes. Excited to see if we win any of the 7 awards we have been nominated for!!!!(sic)”
However, Jameela felt she owed it to her character, Tahani Al-Jamil to make some effort with her appearance on television’s biggest night.
She added: “I still did my make up and wore a sequin dressing gown, because… It’s what Tahani would have wanted. And this is her day, not mine.”
The 34-year-old star also admitted she’d never felt more comfortable at an awards ceremony.
She told E!’s ‘Live From the Red Carpet: “This is the most comfortable I have ever been at the Emmys!”
Jameela also joked she’s never had a perfectly toned physique because she “can’t be bothered” to make the effort.
Explaining she enjoys the “instant reward” of doing dishes, she added: “This is why I’ve never had abs. Because I can’t be bothered to do anything that’s going to take a long time.”
The ‘I Weigh’ activist admitted she’d been leading a very ordinary life while quarantining at home over the last few months.
She said: “It involved mostly potty-training my puppy and then getting up an answering 400 emails, keeping my business running, doing several podcasts a day and then staring into my fridge in despair looking for answers.”

Rachel Brosnahan’s designer pyjamas

OHMYGOSSIP — Rachel Brosnahan had three fittings for the pyjamas she wore for the Emmy Awards.
The ‘Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ star may not have had to get dressed up to walk the red carpet for this year’s virtual ceremony, but she still wanted to make an effort, so her stylists Jill Lincoln and Jordan Johnson reached out to tailor Christy Rilling for some custom loungewear, which they made sure fit perfectly.
Jill said: “Rachel likes more of a high waist, so we knew we weren’t going to do an ordinary elastic waist.”
Jordan added: “We also modified the shirt length. It’s a bit more cropped and fitted, because she’ll likely be sitting while she’s on camera, and we didn’t want the pyjama top sort of slumping around her.”
Christy’s first fitting for Rachel involved measurements using a special colour-coded measuring tape.
The tailor – who also created pyjamas for the actress’ husband Jason Ralph – explained to The Hollywood Reporter: “I needed something I could see during fittings on Zoom.
“Rachel is very savvy about fashion, and she and Jason are both actors, so they’ve been through a million fittings and totally get what we needed to do.”
For the second fitting, Christy created toiles, garments that are crafted in a less expensive fabric, for the couple, and even for the bow and bow ties she’d designed for their pet dogs.
Christy laughed: “Everyone got a toile – even the dogs. We really went for it with this project. The toile fitting was as good as any you’d see for a movie or a European fashion show.”
The final fitting used the finished looks and only required “minimal” changes.
Christy said: “Any changes were really minimal at that point, like adding a few crystals to Rachel’s collar.”
The stylists finished the look with a custom charm necklace from Kirsty Stone’s Retrouvai, and Roger Vivier shoes.
The full look will now be donated to RAD (Red Carpet Advocacy) Auction, an online event organised by stylist Elizabeth Stewart and her Chic Relief non-profit organisation to benefit the When We All Vote campaign.
And the project has inspired Christy to create a new capsule collection of pyjamas, masks and children’s cardigans, which will also be sold to raise money for the cause.

Pill invented to make farts smell like roses

OHMYGOSSIP — A pill has been invented that can make farts smell like chocolate or roses.
French inventor Christian Poincheval has created ‘Pilule Pet’, which he claims can turn flatulence into fragrance.
The pills need to be taken at mealtimes, with the effects taking around a week to start kicking in.
The main ingredient of ‘Pilule Pet’ is activated charcoal – a substance that is often used to relieve bloating and ‘flatus events’. It is not harmful to the body, although specialists suggest it should not be taken too often.
It is not the first bizarre invention by Poincheval, as he previously created a toilet paper covered in newspaper stories and coffee drunk out of eco-friendly paper juice boxes.

The low maintenance nature of the plant – they only need to be watered every three weeks – means people can drop into slumber without worrying about their bedroom flower.

Lil Nas X teams up with Christian Cowan on Spring 2021 collection

OHMYGOSSIP — Lil Nas X has teamed up with Christian Cowan on a new spring collection.
The ‘Old Town Road’ hitmaker stars in the campaign for the British designer’s new spring 2021 collection – which also stars Christian himself – and Lil Nas even helped work on some of the designs for the range.
The collaboration is the latest instalment in Lil Nas and Christian’s working partnership, which began last year when the designer dressed the 21-year-old rapper and singer for the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).
Lil Nas said: “He did my first major red carpet look, where we channeled a little bit of Prince.”
After keeping in touch following the event, the pair decided on their new project, which will directly benefit the LGBT community, which they are both a part of, and will specifically help Black trans women, as they both agree the group continues to be one of the most ignored.
Lil Nas and Christian then decided 100 percent of the proceeds from their collaboration will benefit Atlanta’s Black queer youth through a new fund set up with the Loveland Foundation, which is a non-profit organisation that typically provides support for Black girls and women.
Lil Nas explained: “The trans community, especially the Black trans community, is one of the most looked down upon groups in the entire world, and the least cared for.”
And Christian added: “There’s been so many attacks on the trans community, even within the past few months, and it’s not publicised enough in the US. People forget that the entire Pride movement was started by Black trans women.”
The collection takes influence from both punk and queer culture, and none of the looks are catered toward a specific gender or sex.
Lil Nas said: “[Christian’s] looks are so in between the sexes, I like how he’s so free with it.”
The pair debuted their collection this week during New York Fashion Week via a special virtual film, which features a cast of characters who embody the free-spirited vibe of the clothes themselves.
Christian told Vogue magazine: “We wanted it to be really diverse, and just people who we think are really sick.”

Selma Blair: Fashion will never change

OHMYGOSSIP — Selma Blair doesn’t think the fashion industry will ever change.
The 48-year-old actress believes the world of fashion will “remain constant” in the years to come despite how the rest of society has changed over the last few months in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement.
When asked how she thinks fashion will change to reflect our current social climate, she said: “I think the more things change, we will be surprised at how fashion remains a constant. It isn’t frivolous. It is a language. And it may be a luxury. But it always has been.”
Selma is a lover of fashion and misses being able to attend fashion week in person because the physical shows have been axed in favour of virtual ones due to the global health crisis.
The ‘Cruel Intentions’ star described fashion week as “utterly glamorous”, and even said there’s nothing she doesn’t like about the event.
She explained: “The thing I first loved the most about fashion week and still do is the thrill of the music coming up, everyone seated. Bated breath. The knowing we are the first to see what the designer has been working on … the drama! The legs, the show!
“What’s not to love about fashion week? Utterly glamorous. Fashion week buoys the city. The fashionable people charmed by the time of year they can really indulge their passions for all things style.
“There isn’t anything I don’t like about it. Hotels and old friends, the new young crowd, and all the models I have admired on pages. It’s just a very lively, beautiful time and memories.”
And although Selma misses attending the shows, she is also keen to see what designers will create during isolation.
Speaking to InStyle magazine, she said: “The pandemic has been such a shift. Of course. For myself, I look to what fashion will produce in this time. How isolation, and a greater appreciation for lasting, beautiful things, has been imprinted on me. We are, naturally, mortal, and the pandemic has only solidified in me what an important salve the fashion industry has always been to my emotions. It is wardrobe. It is armour. It is whimsy, and grace, and fun, and a representation of the designer. More than ever it gives us a connection. Of beauty.”

My mother, my brothers, they had to have their nails clean, they had to be short, they had to be filed. My mother was that kind of woman and I think I’ve kind of adopted that point of view from her.”

Jurnee Smollett: My mother taught me to embrace my beauty

OHMYGOSSIP — Jurnee Smollett credits her mother with helping her “embrace” her beauty.
The 33-year-old actress says her family have always been “unapologetic” about their “non-Eurocentric beauty”, and has heaped the praise on her mother Janet for giving her the confidence to be comfortable in her own skin.
She said: “She allowed us to embrace it all, own it, and be very unapologetic about our non-Eurocentric beauty.”
Jurnee also credits her mother with teaching her to love her hair by telling her there’s no such thing as “good hair”.
She added: “My mom instilled us with such a healthy relationship with our hair. She reminded us that all hair is beautiful and never allowed us to use the term good hair. If you’ve got hair, you’ve got good hair.”
And now that she’s older, the ‘Birds of Prey’ star appreciates the outlook her mother gave her, as she can now combat the “narrow gaze” that Hollywood has on beauty standards.
She said: “There is this very narrow gaze of what is beautiful, and it’s very detrimental and very tragic for a lot of people. And I think it’s quite important for those of us who can to resist it and to tear it down, to dismantle the very systemic racism that exists in the beauty world.”
Jurnee also opened up on her decision to “let go” of people or things that are no longer “servicing” her, as she says she won’t “apologise” for being herself.
In an interview with Vogue magazine, she explained: “What in my life is not productive or nurturing, and how can I empower myself to let that go? Even if it means letting go of things or people who are not servicing me, I’m not going to apologise for being me. It’s not my job to care what people’s takeaways are about me.”

Alessandra is determined to ensure her kids learn the value of taking care of themselves, too.
