BLACKPINK’s Lisa named as MAC Cosmetics ambassador

OHMYGOSSIP — BLACKPINK’s Lisa is the newest Global Brand Ambassador for MAC Cosmetics.
The 23-year-old rapper – whose real name is Lalisa Manoban – has been named as the first-ever female K-Pop star to front an international MAC campaign, after she was unveiled as the brand’s latest ambassador earlier this week.
Speaking to Refinery29 about her new gig, Lisa said: “To me, beauty is confidence. I think beauty comes from one’s confident inner self and one’s attitude – makeup and styling are the cherries on top.”
Lisa is known to fans for her bold looks, but admitted that in day to day life, she prefers low-key glam.
She added: “I usually enjoy natural makeup. I like to start with a simple base and finish with a slightly bolder lip colour to add some vibrance. Especially for lip makeup, I like to make an ombré lip that naturally graduates by tapping from the centre of my lips.”
The ‘Ice Cream’ hitmaker also insisted her collaboration with MAC will pay homage to her fellow BLACKPINK members – Jennie, Jisoo, and Rosé – as well as the millions of fans who have supported the group over the years.
She said: “My BLACKPINK members and [our] fans are my driving forces. Thank you for always being there for me through all the happiest and the saddest moments. I am truly grateful.”
And in a statement, Senior Vice President and Global Creative Director, Drew Elliot, described Lisa as an “unparalleled talent” with “bold, fashion-forward style,” as he insisted the company couldn’t imagine a more perfect match for their new partner.
Speaking of Lisa’s new position, he said: “Always confident and never one to shy away from risks, she embodies our commitment to celebrating individuality and self-expression above all else. We can’t wait for her fans to see what she has in store for them through our collaboration.”

Alek Wek recalls walking in the 2019 Savage X Fenty show: ‘There was amazing energy’

OHMYGOSSIP — Alek Wek felt comfortable walking in Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty show in 2019, because there was “so much positivity” around the show.
The 43-year-old model took to the runway at the first Savage X Fenty fashion show in September last year, and has said that whilst she’s usually too “shy” to model lingerie, she felt at ease during the show because of the “amazing energy” of those around her.
She recalled: “I am not the kind of woman to put on lingerie and walk out there. To be honest, I’m quite shy. But this was different. Well, first of all, I was wearing one of my favourite colours – aqua blue. A blue lace veil down to the floor that followed me as I walked.
“There was also such amazing energy and so much positivity around the show. Everybody who was a part of it felt good.”
Alek also praised milliner Stephen Jones – who created the headpieces for the show – for helping her and the other models feel comfortable, because he would always make sure they felt “appreciated”.
She added: “Stephen Jones was on set and did all the headpieces. He would go up to every single girl as he was fixing the veils and tell them how beautiful they looked. You could just see their eyes light up. The simple little things that come when you recognise and appreciate people are really quite amazing.”
And the beauty had kind words for Rihanna too, as she said the singer “embraced” the different backgrounds of all the models hired for the show.
Speaking to Vogue magazine about some of her career highlights, Alek explained: “It was so good to see everybody turn it out. There were people of all different ages and different backgrounds. Rihanna was dancing with all the dancers. She accepted everybody for who they were; she really embraced us.”

Kelly Rowland: Keep low-rise jeans out of fashion!

OHMYGOSSIP — Kelly Rowland doesn’t want low-rise jeans to come back into fashion.
The 39-year-old singer finds it “interesting” that fashion often moves in cycles, with certain pieces coming in and out of style as the years go by, but has insisted the one design she would like to see buried forever is low-rise jeans.
She said: “It’s interesting how fashion just continues to turn and evolve. It’s modernised in such a way to where it makes it interesting all over again to our generation.”
And then added of her least favourite jean cut: “I don’t want that to come back because high-waisted jeans make me so happy. I feel like high-waisted jeans just look good on everybody’s body types, and those low-waisted jeans, they just gave me a lot of pressure. So, I’m OK without those.”
Kelly is collaborating with JustFab for a new clothing collection as the brand’s new global face, and has said she’s eager to make sure “comfort” comes before anything else when creating her pieces.
She explained: “Comfort first. I actually went to one specific rack in my closet, and it was all cosy sets because I just didn’t want to think, you know what I mean?
“I was keeping the house up, and it was so much to think about. I still wanted to be cute, but I wanted to basically have my wardrobe think for me.”
And the former Destiny’s Child star is also keen to make sure women feel “seen and heard” through her clothing ventures.
Speaking to POPSUGAR, she said: “Women reflect every single piece that we have in this line. To be able to feel seen and heard like that is so important to myself. Just having those moments with women, I just think that we’re more powerful than we know.”

Jason Crozier shares ‘Netflick’ tips

OHMYGOSSIP — Jason Crozier has warned off overdrying the hair to avoid “zapping the life” out of a bouncy blow dry.
With a new legion of fans being introduced to ‘The Fall’ since its arrival on Netflix, many viewers have been admiring Gillian Anderson’s effortless-looking bouncy blowdry – dubbed the Netflick – and the Revlon spokesperson and stylist has shared an easy tutorial on copying the look at home.
After towel drying hair and applying a golf-ball sized squirt of mousse to the roots, Jason recommends using Revlon’s Bump Up Volumising Spray through the length and ends before using the brand’s One-Step Dryer & Volumiser Titanium Special Edition on its low heat setting.
He said: “Work the roots upwards before smoothing through the lengths and ends.
“Always start at the top and sides for this style. This look is all about framing the face with luscious locks that flick and bounce around, so you really want to maximise your efforts here. Use a twisting and rolling motion as the brush and bristles travel through each section of hair.
“As you work through the top sections of head, hold the tool horizontally and dry with the hair wrapped around the brush, traveling in a forward crescent motion.”
And warning against undoing the hard work, he added: “Be sure not to over dry the hair, as this will zap the life out of the volume and bounce.”
To open up the face with a lively flick, Jason explained: “Blow dry the sides whilst holding the ONE-STEP Hairdryer and Volumiser vertically and wrap the hair around the brush so that, with a flick of the wrist, you can direct the hair away from the face.
“Repeat this technique through the back sections, drying them with the tool vertically as this help emulate the work you have done through the sides.”
To finish the look and make it last, after dying each section, allow it to cool in rollers for around 15 minutes.
He added: “Once you release the hair from the rollers, spritz it with strong hold hairspray which will give longevity and texture to your locks.”
The new REVLON® One-Step Dryer & Volumiser Titanium Special Edition is available now at Boots & Amazon at a RRP of £79.99.

Fashion chameleon Lily James

OHMYGOSSIP — Lily James is a fashion “chameleon”.
The 31-year-old actress has been praised by ‘Rebecca’ costume designer Julian Day for the ease in which she is able to “inhabit” different clothes and show them off to their best, whatever the garment may be.
He said: “Lily is amazing. She’s like a chameleon. I’ve never seen anyone put on clothes and inhabit them so well and really show them off to their best.”
Lily relies on her clothes to get into character and Julian – who previously worked with her on ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’ – knows she needs to “trust” the wardrobe department.
He told Britain’s HELLO! magazine: “When you meet an actor, they have to feel confident with you, and with Lily, you have to make her trust you.
“Lily is very much about instinct. We put the brown suit on her and that was it, she became the maid.
“Then we put on a suit and she became the second Mrs. de Winter.”
Julian enjoyed transforming Lily’s wardrobe as her unnamed character in the thriller gradually changes over the course of the movie.
He said: “When we first see her, she’s in a dowdy, hand-me-down brown suit as she’s a lady’s maid and doesn’t have any money.
“But when she starts the blossoming relationship with Maxim, I threw that out of the window as I wanted to create a lovely romantic look with chiffons and lightweight cottons and linens, idyllic tableaux with straw hats.
“I used a lot of Liberty fabrics as they’re very romantic, and showed some flesh as well – arms and shoulders, which was quite provocative at the time.
“Then, when we get to Manderely, she starts to take on the persona of the house – the country lady with the twinset and pearls.
“She goes from being a subservient girl to a woman and I wanted to create a much stronger silhouette.
“Her skirts are more fitted, severe and domineering as she’s taking more control.”

Natalia Vodianova invests in 20 tech firms

OHMYGOSSIP — Natalia Vodianova has invested in 20 tech companies.
The 38-year-old model – who married Antoine Arnault last month – and her business partner Timon Afinsky used their France-based company Supernova to pour money into various start-up firms including AI-drien yoga assistant Zenia, sleep app Loona, AR-driven shopping app Wannaby and simplified legal contract app, E-gree, over the last few years.
Natalia and Timon’s tech investment began with their app Elbi, which turned the idea of social media likes into charitable donations.
The Russian beauty told WWD: “We suddenly opened ourselves up to this world of tech, just by diving into it and investing in Elbi and building it.
“We made so many mistakes, hired so many wrong people. In that sense there was a real learning curve. But some things we did really well.”
The pair were inundated with requests for helps by tech founders who struggled to market themselves as effectively as Elbi’s “very, very loud” publicity campaigns.
Natalia explained: “A lot of founders have fantastic tech, very interesting companies scaling hugely with a large audience, but absolutely no brand and no visibility.
“That’s literally how it started. Then just word of mouth. Founders know each other.”
At one point, Natalia and Timon considered starting their own fund but ultimately decided against it because the workings would prove a drain on their limited time, though they haven’t ruled out the possibility completely.
Natalia said: “Maybe one day if we feel like we really want to invest in a much bigger team, we’ll do it, but until then, it feels right to do it like this. We feel more free.”
For now, Supernova has a team of six working on investments while Natalia – who typically puts in between $25,000 to $100,000, earning around a 5% stake in a business – sits on the board of 12 companies.

Naomi Campbell writing autobiography

OHMYGOSSIP — Naomi Campbell is writing her autobiography.
The 50-year-old supermodel had been contemplating writing a memoir for some time but wasn’t unsure how to start, until she received some guidance from music producer Clarence Avant.
She told America’s Vogue magazine: “I had this old-school way of looking at it as having to put pen to paper.
“But I had a lovely lunch last year with Clarence Avant. I asked him, ‘Clarence, How do you do it? How do you start writing?’ And he told me, ‘Just start from anywhere. Don’t start from the beginning.’ So it is going to happen!”
Naomi is also keen to act more, depending on who approaches her for jobs and what the role entails she will always say yes to her friend and ‘Empire’ showrunner Lee Daniels.
She said: “I mean, if it feels like something that is right, and if I fit it as a 50-year-old woman, then sign me up!”
The fashion icon is very excited about the upcoming Apple TV+ docuseries ‘The Supermodels’ – which will explore the impact she, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, and Cindy Crawford had on culture in the 1990s – and revealed they had turned down a number of offers over the years until the right approach came along.
She said: “It was really worth holding out. If we are going to do something, we are going to be involved in it throughout the whole process, from beginning to end. Linda, Christy, and Cindy, these are my sisters. The four of us tell it. I wasn’t going to do it any other way.”

Kris Jenner’s bad makeup skills

OHMYGOSSIP — Kris Jenner has likened her makeup skills to that of Kylie Jenner’s two-year-old daughter.
The ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ star was less than impressed with her own makeup skills -describing it as more like something Stormi would do – as she helped to apply red lipstick on Kylie’s lips.
In a new YouTube video for Kylie’s channel, Kylie admitted she was “terrified” about the prospect of her mother doing her makeup but she just assured: “We’re bringing back the 80s. You just sit back and relax.”
It is all going fairly alright until the lipstick comes into play.
She said: “I want to go very dramatic.”
Before Kris joked back: “It’s like Stormi is doing your lips … Don’t look. Please don’t look. It’s not like you’re going to the Met Gala. You’re gonna be fine.”
After it was all done, Kris steps back and admires her handiwork.
Addressing the camera, she said: “This is my look for Kylie Jenner and I’m calling it ‘glamorous daytime.'”
Kylie liked the blush and eyeshadow but branded her eyebrows “silly” and criticised her powdering skills. However, she admitted she was “pleasantly surprised” and would go out in it if she “absolutely had to”.
Meanwhile, Kylie previously confessed she was thankful when she was younger to have her mother Kris on hand to offer her skincare advice.
She said: “My first experience was definitely with face wash! I went through that typical teenage stage and needed a good, simple face wash for day and night. My mom really helped me navigate through all of that – and she knew exactly what products to buy having done it so many times with my older sisters!”

Kylie Jenner ‘connects’ with Muse Clothing

OHMYGOSSIP — Kylie Jenner “connects” with the message of Muse Clothing.
The 22-year-old reality star loves the brand’s minimal yet quaint aesthetic – which features freeform graphic lines and fonts – and has been wearing clothes from the fashion house since its launch in 2017.
And now, Muse Clothing founder and designer Antony Muse has said he thinks Kylie resonates with the brand because she’s a “real life person” who endures the same struggles and “internal anxieties” as everyone else.
He explained: “The brand connects with people like Kylie because she’s a real life person. She feels the same emotions and goes through the same things as everyone else.
“The same existential questions or internal anxieties that I face are similar to the ones she faces, because on the inside we all have the same questions.”
Antony also opened up on his decision to launch the streetwear brand three years ago, as he said he felt like an “outsider” in the streetwear scene.
He said: “I felt like nothing in the streetwear scene represented me and the whole thing felt very exclusive and very expensive.
“It left me feeling like an outsider looking in on everyone else being a part of this incredible movement and I wanted in.”
The designer’s main goal with his clothing line is to “share messages that feel innately human”, including comments on self-love and important issues such as climate change.
Speaking to Us Weekly magazine’s Stylish, he added: “I want to share messages that feel innately human and ones that each of us can relate to in a multitude of ways – whether that be messages about loving yourself or about karma wrapped into messages about climate change, I hope to make art that all people can see and feel in some way.”

Tori Spelling wanted smaller eyes

OHMYGOSSIP — Tori Spelling used to be desperate to make her eyes look “smaller”.
The ‘Beverly Hills 90210’ actress admitted her already-low confidence plummeted even further when she was mocked over the appearance of her peepers and she used to “beg” make-up artists to help minimise her features in order to feel less self-conscious.
She said: “I used to hate my eyes. When I started ‘90210’ at 16 I was filled with low self confidence.
“Then, internet trolls ( yep we had them back then too!)called me frog and bug eyed. Being put under a microscope as a young girl in her formative years was hard.
” I spent years begging makeup artists on my shows and movies to please try to make my eyes look smaller. I would cry over my looks in the makeup trailer chair.(sic)”
But Tori gradually began to realise her eyes were actually an “asset”.
She continued on Instagram: “I didn’t start to realize what an asset my eyes were till I did Scream 2 and the cover of Rolling Stone reenacting the iconic shower scene from Psycho. My eyes made that photo. They showed the emotion I was “feeling in my soul” in that picture.(sic)”
And the 47-year-old star admitted it is a deliberate move on her part that she is never photographed facing straight on because of the cruel comments she experienced when she was younger and urged her followers to think twice before writing mean things.
She said: “Now, my face. Many people ask why I only show one side of my face. Some write hurtful things. Yes, it is a choice. My choice.
“Because, a vulnerable innocent excited girl showed all of her face at 16 and was eaten alive. Choices about my looks were made for me by nameless and faceless accounts. Words can’t be unread. Cyber bullying existed then and it does now worse than ever.
“So, every time one of you ask me why I don’t look straight on in photos and videos know why I make that choice.
“Years of hurtful comments that I don’t even want to share to give them energy. Way worse than bug or frog eyes. Just remember next time that you go to comment on someone’s account regarding their face or body or choices, you don’t know them. They don’t know you. But, their soul will remember that unkind comment. It’ll be imprinted on them. Our memories can’t remember physical pain but we do remember emotional, verbal, and written pain.”

Stella McCartney launches breast cancer awareness campaign

OHMYGOSSIP — Stella McCartney has launched a new campaign to raise awareness for breast cancer survivors.
The 49-year-old fashion designer is marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a new campaign named ‘A Letter to My Loved Ones’ in collaboration with photojournalist Lynsey Addario, who shot portraits of a series of women who have gone through or are going through breast cancer, in a bid to tackle the stigma that comes with the disease.
Stella and Lynsey also worked with Alice Aedy – a climate activist, documentary photographer, and filmmaker – to shoot films based on each woman’s hand-written letter to loved ones.
The designer lost her mother, Linda McCartney, to breast cancer in 1998, and has been organising annual campaigns to raise awareness of the disease through her eponymous fashion label since 2014.
In a statement, Stella said: “It pains me every day to have lost one of the most precious humans, my mum Linda, to this horrendous disease. I have such a deep admiration and gratitude for these women – both those who shared their moving stories, and for Lynsey and Alice, who brought these powerful narratives to life.
“Nearly 11,500 Britons die from breast cancer annually and we are advocates for early testing and detection today, to prevent loss and pain for loved ones tomorrow.”
Stella’s fashion brand will also be selling its usual breast cancer awareness ‘Whitney Popping’ lingerie set, with proceeds going toward the charities it has long supported through the Stella McCartney Cares Foundation.
And Stella’s collaborations with Adidas, Adidas by Stella McCartney, is also getting involved in the project, with the brand giving away specially created sports post-mastectomy bras for the second year in a row.
This year, the brand said it will be giving away more post-mastectomy bras than last year, when it donated more than 10,000 items through Stella McCartney Cares.

Jonathan Anderson: Young designers should embrace failure

OHMYGOSSIP — Jonathan Anderson wants to encourage young designers to “embrace failure”.
The JW Anderson founder has told up-and-coming fashion designers they need to be “ready and excited to fail” before they can expect to have their big break, as he believes making mistakes is the best way to “learn” and improve.
When asked what advice he has for young designers, he said: “This would probably be my biggest piece of advice: to embrace failure, and to be ready and excited to fail, and to fail again. It’s a very good thing, because I think you learn from that. If you were told you were a genius all your life, then people would write you were a genius and that’s it, they don’t really tell you who you are, they don’t really go in depth into it. There’s nothing worse than the idea of the genius designer, it’s a sort of a very odd tombstone.”
And Jonathan, 36, thinks it’s important that rising stars in fashion stay “humble”.
The LOEWE creative director wants people in the fashion industry to realise how “lucky” they are for their careers, and to understand that “fashion isn’t the centre of the universe”.
Speaking to Vogue magazine, he added: “And probably my other advice would be to never compromise, in this day and age you have to crack your own self [open] – and I think it’s really a moment now that, when doing or being involved in fashion, you have to really look at yourself and say, I’m so lucky in what I do. No matter in what capacity you’re working in this industry – editor, buyer, stylist, producer, whatever – we never actually slow down and say, god, we’re lucky.
“There are lots of people who are not in that situation, and if you want to participate in fashion I think you really need to learn how to be humble, because if not, you become a very isolated character which I think in this day and age no one really wants anymore – no one wants elitism, no one wants ideas of privilege, that is not modern anymore. With what is happening in the greater world, fashion isn’t the centre of the universe.”

Kelly Rowland: I want to dress ‘sexier’ during my pregnancy

OHMYGOSSIP — Kelly Rowland wants to dress “a little bit sexier” during her pregnancy.
The former Destiny’s Child star – who already has five-year-old son Titan Jewell with her husband Tim Weatherspoon, who she married in 2014 – is currently expecting her second child, and has said she’s on a mission to feel sexier this time around, as she recalls feeling “really dumpy” during her first pregnancy.
She said: “[I want to dress] a little bit sexier. The last time I was just really dumpy. I was like, I want to do it better this time. Now I have nowhere to go, but I love pieces that will give me some space and where you can still see the woman’s form. I was playing in my closet and I paired my old Lenny Kravitz vintage tee with my little snakeskin ankle boots. It looked so cute. I can’t wait to wear it out.”
The 39-year-old singer also admitted she’s recently cleared out her wardrobe, which included getting rid of some items she bought 20 years ago.
She explained: “When in doubt, go classic.
“I find it so interesting how every time I clean out my closet, there’s something trendy from a long time ago that I bought that I really want to hold onto, maybe because I have some sort of special memory attached to it.
“But, I had five bags of clothes that I was just ‘No, no, I don’t need this anymore.’ Some stuff, I was like, ‘Get that s*** out of here! It does not serve me anymore.’ I literally put pieces from 2000 in my [give away] pile, and also saved some pieces from 2000. But there are these cute little jeans that I can’t fit anymore – not even not pregnant. I’m just like, ‘No, boo. Those will never go up.’ ”
And although it was tough for her to part with some sentimental items, she loves the way her wardrobe looks now.
Speaking to InStyle magazine, she said: “I noticed all of my pieces now are things that go with everything, and I’m able to match and pair so much better. These pieces all feel like they’re going to be around until I die. That makes more sense to me, to have a closet that does the work for me.”

Kristen Bell’s self-care keeps her ‘sanity’

OHMYGOSSIP — Kristen Bell practises self-care to keep her “sanity intact”.
The ‘Frozen’ star – who recently released her CBD skincare line, Happy Dance – insists self-care shouldn’t be “eventized” and instead should be something that’s done daily and not just as simple as “having a manicure”.
Speaking to the New York Post’s Page Six column, she said: “One thing I’ve learned during this pandemic is that I really like and need to take baths. The only time I am allowed to lock the door in my house is when I’m taking a bath … Self-care is not something to be ‘event-ized’.
“It’s something I need daily to keep my sanity intact. Self-care isn’t leaving the house for a manicure with your girlfriends once a month – that’s just leaving the house for a manicure with your girlfriends once a month.”
Meanwhile, Kristen  joined forces with Lord Jones, an industry leader in hemp-derived products, to create a new CBD skincare collection called Happy Dance.
Kristen explained: “I first discovered Lord Jones CBD products two years ago and have been using them ever since. I was sceptical at first, but was quickly blown away by the quality, integrity, and consistency in all of the products. When I met Lord Jones founders Rob and Cindy, we aligned on a shared desire to make a CBD line that would be accessible to a wider audience at a lower price point while maintaining the same trusted quality as the Lord Jones brand.”
Rob Rosenheck, the chief executive of Lord Jones, added: “Kristen has a singular voice and has always been outspoken about what she loves and believes. Her passion, authenticity and kindness will be at the core of Happy Dance and make her the perfect messenger to bring CBD self-care to the mainstream.”
