Clara Amfo and Amber Butchart host Audible Original podcast FASHIONED

OHMYGOSSIP — Clara Amfo and fashion historian Amber Butchart have launched the Audible Original podcast, ‘FASHIONED’.
The BBC Radio 1 DJ and ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ contestant and author-and-broadcaster Amber “uncover the secret history of fashion, from the Middle Ages to the 20th century” over six episodes.
What’s more, they delve into the impact of fashion on everything from gender and class, to its influence on feminism, civil rights, and the environment.
Clara has shared some of her fashion muses and faux pas over the years, from having her hair braided to channel her inner Lauryn Hill in ‘Sister Act 2′ to cutting her jeans to look like 90s’ Beyonce when she was in Destiny’s Child.
The 36-year-old presenter recalled: “In my early years I looked to posters and actors as my fashion inspiration which resulted in what I now affectionately call a “high street casualty”, I started braiding my hair to look like Lauryn Hill in ‘Sister Act 2’ which was a triumph.
However cutting the tops of my jeans off to look like early Destiny’s Child Beyoncé, or wearing jeans from the skate shop that were so huge that my not fully developed hips couldn’t hold them up were not some of my finest moments!
“Over the years my style has naturally changed and now I look to classic 80s/90s icons like Sade, Neneh Cherry and Grace Jones, and more recently Janelle Monae and Solange for inspiration.
“This series explores how fashion has been developed over millennia by social movements and culture and maybe, you will look at your outfits differently after listening and knowing the history behind each piece.”
Amber – who presented BBC Four’s documentary series ‘A Stitch in Time’ – added: “My initial idea for this series was to combine my two passions, clothes and literature, so it’s been a real joy delving deep into the research over the centuries, and digging out so many of history’s style stories.
“Fashion plays such an important part in history, in terms of culture, politics and economics, as well as self-expression and identity. So it’s great to be able to share these stories!”
‘FASHIONED’ is available to download now, free for Audible members, or free to download with Audible’s 30-day trial: www.audible.co.uk

Jourdan Dunn embraces multiculturalism in new campaign

OHMYGOSSIP — Jourdan Dunn says her new Flannels campaign is about “celebrating multiculturalism”.
The 30-year-old model is the new face of the multi-brand retailer’s latest project that sets out to focus on the changes in the fashion industry following the global pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement.
Jourdan said of the campaign: “As a brand, Flannels is all about embracing and celebrating multiculturalism. They support emerging talent as much as top designers, which is something that is close to my heart.”
The campaign focuses on Britain’s multicultural society and stars a host of the country’s diverse creative talent, including male models Selim Ibrahim and Amin Lawal.
Michael Murray, Flannels’ head of elevation, added: “Jourdan has been making waves across the fashion industry since coming onto the scene a decade ago, not only through her casting in multiple high-profile campaigns and walking every key runway, but in the cultural and social spheres in their entirety.
“She has been pushing existing boundaries, breaking them down fearlessly and paving the way for the next generation of creatives cross-industry. This innovative collaboration with new talent showcases that journey and aligns strategically with our brand.”
What’s more, Flannels has taken the campaign meaning behind the camera by focusing on those from a BAME background, including stylist Shaquille R Williams and photographer Christina Ebenezer.
However, it was a “no brainer” for Dunn that Christina should get the job after she first saw some of her work in GQ.
She said: “I first saw Christina’s work with her GQ cover of Michaela Cole. I sent the images to my agent and said that I really wanted to work with her. I loved working with her! She is very cool, calm, and just gets the shot.”

Halima Aden aims to compete in Miss Universe pageant

OHMYGOSSIP — Halima Aden wants to be the first Miss Somalia in the Miss Universe pageant.
The 23-year-old model plans to take the crown at the annual international beauty pageant after accomplishing a number of firsts in her career, including becoming the first ever hijab-wearing model to compete for Miss Minnesota and the first-ever person to wear a hijab and burkini on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
She said: “All those other ‘FIRSTs’ have prepared me for my true calling. I will be the First Miss Somalia on the stage of Miss Universe. Fellow contestants, get ready because I AM COMING.”
Halima previously revealed that her accomplishments have not been easy as she knew people would initially fear the unknown.
However, she is proud of what she has achieved as she is able to path the way for many more people to follow in her footsteps.
She explained: “Being the first isn’t easy. People innately fear the unknown so even if you do take that step to be the first, some will never understand or agree with you. To me, I knew being the first would mean nothing if there wasn’t a second, a third, a fourth.
“I am so proud that in just the short three-and-a-half years of my modelling career, there are several hijab-wearing models and it’s not uncommon to see these women walking the runway or covering magazines. That makes my journey worth it to me.
“Being a role model is important to me, not just to the young girls in my Muslim or Somali communities, but to those who can relate to any part to my story.
“I feel very fortunate to be in this position and while it comes with an enormous amount of responsibility, at the end of the day, the best I can do is to just do me and be myself.”

The 48-year-old singer has teamed up with auction house Sotheby’s to put the iconic outfit – which was worn in the music video for the hit Spice Girls single – up for auction during a special charity event that will support the people of Beirut, Lebanon, who were affected by the tragic blast that took place in the city on August 4.
The auction, titled ‘To Beirut with Love’, is in collaboration with charity organisations Creatives For Lebanon and Art For Beirut, and will be open for bidding between December 7 and 15.

Carmen Electra has never had cosmetic surgery

OHMYGOSSIP — Carmen Electra says people are “shocked” when she tells them she hasn’t had any cosmetic surgery.
The 48-year-old former Playboy model – who has just launched her own beauty brand GoGo Skincare – is known for her youthful complexion and she has insisted she has never gone under the knife and claims having “discipline” with her skincare is the secret to her natural radiance.
Speaking to the DailyMail.com, Carmen spilled: “Let’s be real, we are in Hollywood here and when I share the real story most people are shocked, because normally a woman would have certain things done.
In my case I am completely free of [surgery] and I would say [my youthful appearance] is because of my discipline with my skincare routine.”
However, the blonde beauty hasn’t ruled out having surgery in the future.
She said: “For the moment I am happy with my routine and it’s working! I feel that everyone has the right to be who they want without judgement.”
The ‘Go Go Dancer’ singer insisted it’s important that anyone wishing to have a cosmetic procedure takes their time in choosing the right surgeon for the job.
Asked if she has any advice for those seeking surgery, she replied: “I would say never rush anything in life. Beauty and self-care especially should be like an adventure where you can explore all the many amazing modern options people have available, [both] surgical and non-surgical.
“If you do things with love and care you can never go wrong.”
As well as following her strict skincare routine, Carmen tries to drink as much water as possible and avoids coffee, fizzy pop and alcohol to maintain her flawless skin.
She added: “I’m big on staying hydrated! Water can hydrate your skin from the inside out, it’s such a simple thing that I think a lot of people forget.
“I also try to stay away from items that damage your skin like caffeine, soda, and alcohol.”

James Arthur takes up hiking in a bid to slim down to 15 stone

OHMYGOSSIP — James Arthur has taken up hiking and quit smoking in a bid to get to 15 stone by Christmas Day (25.12.20).
The ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ hitmaker revealed in May that his weight had ballooned to 17 stone in the first coronavirus lockdown, after “stuffing his face” with fake sausage sandwiches and cake.
And now, James has revealed he has set himself the goal to shed two stone come December 25.
The 32-year-old pop star recently climbed Guisborough Three Peaks in North Yorkshire and admitted it left him “absolutely battered”.
He told his fans during an Instagram Live: “We climbed the peaks. I’m trying to get in shape by doing lots of hiking. I’ve just got back from a 14km hike and I’m f*****. Absolutely battered.”
As well as getting active, the ‘Lasting Lover’ hitmaker has curbed his nicotine habit and is eating healthier.
He added: “Probably have some sweet potato, probably have some salt, cause I’m trying to be healthy, trying to lose some weight.
“I’ve got a goal. Christmas Day I need to weigh in at 15 stone.
“Am I smoking? I wish. I’m on a health kick.”
James – who is “pretty much” a vegan – admitted he had nothing else to do in lockdown other than chow down on calorific cakes to feed his sweet tooth.
He said earlier this year: “I have put on a fair bit of weight since the beginning of the lockdown because there’s nothing else to do but stuff my face.
“I’ve got a sweet tooth so it’s just cake really. I love cake.
“I’m pretty much a vegan so I’ve been having the fake meat – sausage sandwiches and stuff like that I’ve been digging into.
“I’ve set myself a goal to lose a bit of weight. It might sound extreme but I’m 6ft 3in and I weigh 17st so I’d like to drop a couple of stone if possible.”

Nicole Kidman refused to ‘conform’ when she was a teen

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicole Kidman refused to “conform” when she was a teenager.
The ‘Undoing’ actress has admitted she suffered from “a lot of fears and insecurities” growing up, including about her height, but that didn’t stop her from wearing whatever she wanted to.
Nicole told the digital edition of Glamour UK: “I was a teenager who wouldn’t conform, but I had a lot of fears and insecurities because I was very tall. I was 5ft10 by the time I was 13 years old.”
The 53-year-old Oscar-winner also recalled how she wore a 1920s-style flapper gown to her prom which she got from a vintage store.
Asked what her prom was like, she said: “I wore a 1920s flapper dress, which goes along with my ‘not conforming’ sensibility. I bought it in a vintage store and I just loved the idea of a flapper dress, it was black and white beading – it was definitely not tulle and big skirts. I think I remember getting a little drunk too, which is probably a lot of people’s experiences at their prom or formal.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Big Little Lies’ star recently admitted she has felt “more secure” in her own identity in recent years.
The Australian star – who is married to country musician Keith Urban – has admitted she’s only recently discovered her own “emotional strength”.
She shared: “It is true I’ve become more secure in my own identity.
“It’s probably only in the last six or seven years that I’ve gone, ‘Oh, OK, this is who I am, what I am and what I stand for’. I’ve discovered my own emotional strength, which, when I was a kid, I actually didn’t think was there.
“I always thought I’d be easily broken. And there have been times in my life when I’ve gone, ‘I actually don’t think I’m going to get through this.'”
However, Nicole now believes that she’s much stronger and more “resilient” than she initially thought.
She added: “I have been down on my knees and have prayed for strength … And it’s been amazing to me what strength you can suddenly find from places you didn’t even think you had. It turns out that I am resilient after all.”

Jada Pinkett Smith likes to be in control of her own skincare routine

OHMYGOSSIP — Jada Pinkett Smith prefers to control her own skincare over going to an aesthetician.
The ‘Girls Trip’ actress and her daughter Willow Smith, 20 – whom she has with husband Will Smith – posted a video to Instagram from their home sharing Jada’s skincare secrets at the weekend.
In the clip, Jada – who can be seeing wearing a face mask with her daughter – explained why she only visits her aesthetician “twice a year at best” and also shared how to do steaming without a steam room.
She wrote in the caption: “So many of you have been asking about my skin routine so let’s start with some tips for Self Care Saturday.
“I go to an aesthetician twice a year at best. I’m too particular about my skin to put it in the hands of someone else.
“Steam is one of my secrets and you don’t need a steam room. Boil water … pour it into a bowl … put your face over the bowl and throw a towel over your head. Sit under the towel for 1-2 minutes. This process helps to keep skin moist … to pull out impurities and to open pours to put nourishment into the skin.”
The 49-year-old star – who also has son Jaden, 22, with the ‘Men in Black’ actor – also revealed that she avoids drinking soda and juice and mainly has water to keep her skin super hydrated.
She added: “I drink at least 8-9 bottles of water a day (sometimes more) I don’t drink soda or juices. Water is really ALL I drink. DIET IS SO IMPORTANT! We’ll get more into that … later.”

Marion Cotillard doesn’t wear perfume ‘every day’

OHMYGOSSIP — Marion Cotillard doesn’t wear perfume “every day”.
The 45-year-old French actress – who is the face of Chanel No. 5 – says there is “no rule” when it comes to how often she wears a fragrance and some days she prefers to sniff the bottle for her own “personal pleasure” instead of spraying it on herself.
She said: “I have this relationship with fragrances and I don’t have a habit with them. I can wear it every day, and suddenly not wear any perfume for a certain period of time. At big events I always wear Chanel. But sometimes I don’t wear it, I just smell it for my personal pleasure. I don’t have a ritual that involves wearing perfume every day. Sometimes it will be for an important event and sometimes just for the pleasure of wearing it. There is no rule.”
Asked if that’s how perfume should be used, she replied: “I do not know. It is the way I like it, but I understand that for some people it is part of their routine like wearing a hat, a brooch or a certain type of clothing. There are people who put on makeup every day and they like it, they need it, others wear perfume every day. It’s the way people like things because it’s part of you. A perfume becomes a part of you.”
The ‘Inception’ star also recalled the first time she smelled Chanel’s iconic No.5 perfume as a teen.
Although she couldn’t afford to buy it at the time, she always “knew” she’d use it in the future.
Marion told Grazia: “I remember the first time I smelled Chanel No.5 I loved it immediately, the scent, the bottle, I loved its uniqueness and knew that one day I would wear it. The first time I smelled it I was a teenager and it was a gift a friend gave my mum. At that time I couldn’t afford to buy it, but somehow I knew that one day I would use it.”

“Hair masks, too — Olaplex and Oribe. I try to do [them] weekly.”
Asked what part of her beauty regime has taken a back seat in quarantine, Nicky said: “I had my first manicure since March last week. It just has not been a priority at all.”
Meanwhile, Nicky – who has four-year-old Lily-Grace and two-year-old Teddy with husband James Rothschild – revealed she has been supporting local businesses in New York amid the coronavirus pandemic.
She said: “I miss going to restaurants with my friends, and there’s so many wonderful restaurants in my neighbourhood. To see them suffering is just terrible. So I’ve really been trying to support my local restaurants by doing outdoor dining or takeout.
“I love what some of these restaurants have done with the outdoor seating. I think it brings a totally new energy to New York.”
And in the run up to Christmas, Nicky says “giving back” is “more important than ever” during this difficult year.

He told Kate: “I wonder if, for you, it was the same? I find it very beautiful and I wanted to ask you if it was the same also for you.”
She responded: “Aww, Stefano. Yeah, it was so emotional seeing Lila on the runway.
“Well, it wasn’t emotional — I was really nervous for her.

The fashion icon keeps many of her designer dresses for her daughter and revealed the latest piece she has claimed from her mother’s collection.
Kate said: “She has recently stolen my Azzedine Alaia skirt. And it’s so cute.”
The blonde beauty was asked 26 questions by various people for the video, including one from Lila herself.
She asked her mother: “After a hectic day at work, what do you do or what do you use to unwind or relax when you come home?”
To which she replied: “I like having a hot bath and getting into bed for a cuddle with you if you’re available.”

Zac Posen: Covid-19 has changed the fashion industry for the better

OHMYGOSSIP — Zac Posen says the Covid-19 pandemic has transformed how the fashion industry practices.
The 40-year-old designer says brands now have a better connection with their customers as they have been made to “slow down” and listen to their needs amid the global health crisis.
He told WWD.com: “[Fashion] was living in a time where it felt like a very kind of relentless rhythm. And as we look forward, it’s a really great moment for people to question what they want to put out there and how they want to put it out there and connect with their customer.”
Posen says now is the time for those in the industry to give back, while he spoke of the importance of boosting “creativity” to keep “humanity thriving”.
He added: “We have to keep humanity thriving, and creativity is essential and part of that – and giving back. That’s really important, to be able to lend your voice, your funds, if you have the means to, or talent to really help others. We all have to take care of each other as much as we can.”
Last November, Posen made the “difficult decision” to close his label, House of Z.
He said at the time: “We had to close up House of Z, Z-Spoke, the whole company. We were in a sale process and we ran out of time. There was a board vote. We had to make the call. My partners and I tried everything possible within our means to find solutions to keep it going. I have been trying to find the right strategic partners at this tough time in retail and in the industry. The clock ran out.”
He called the decision “surprising and immediate”.
However, Posen has since been working on a number of secret projects, which he is keeping tight-lipped about until the time is right.
He added: “I’m waiting to see the right opportunity for that, is what I would say. I can’t divulge too much, but I’ve been working in development within the entertainment space on a few projects on camera and then from a producing side.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Heidi Klum has launched her Disney Villains casual collection.
The 47-year-old model designed the unisex range of graphic t-shirts, hoodies, tunics and jogging bottoms, which feature her favourite Disney villains; Hades [‘Hercules’], Ursula [‘The Little Mermaid’], Maleficent [‘Maleficent’] and The Evil Queen [‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’].
