Carolyn Murphy says her her grandmother helped shape her fashion sense

OHMYGOSSIP — Carolyn Murphy says her her grandmother helped shape her taste “in design and interiors”.
The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover star also attributed becoming well-travelled has “helped influence and develop” her creativity as she debuted her second ‘Mother’ piece collection, a 12-piece titled ‘Surfs Up’, celebrating sustainability and surfing in Hawaii.
The 47-year-old fashionista told Elle: “I’m going to credit my nana for my eye in design and interiors—she was very chic and an artist. I was also traveling abroad from a young age, and in my career, was exposed to different people, cultures, and destinations, which helped influence and develop my personal style. It all comes down to the fact that I thrive on inspiration and creativity.”
Carolyn admits the adding eco-credentials to your wares is “intimidating” but thinks that making “simple lifestyle choices” is a great route into being more conscious about your impact on the world around you.
She said: “I find that being labelled by or claiming anything around sustainability is intimidating. We live in a world where walking the talk entirely is unrealistic for most, but adapting simple lifestyle choices is a way to start. Buying used—whether it’s cars, clothes, or furniture—is a great starting point of recycling. Reusing items like bags and glass jars. Reducing waste by shopping at farmers markets, composting kitchen scraps, and skipping single-use plastic items.”
The former Calvin Klein model finds vintage clothing “appealing” because of the satisfaction of the hunt for hidden gems.
Carolyn said: “Vintage is appealing because the hunt for pieces can be surprising; there is history around most of the garments, and the challenge in reworking them is so much fun.”

Beauty really helps us in that way because we’re always in front of cameras and there are always going to be people looking out for us. That’s why it’s really important for us to really take good care of ourselves, whether that be through skin care or diet, or working out. Our members are doing a fairly good job, in that respect.”

She told PEOPLE magazine: “I didn’t always have this kind of confidence or relationship with my hair. The truth is, the majority of my hair confidence has come with my products.
“I have a lot of pride in my hair. I enjoy my hair, I am tickled by my hair.
“I used to say I worked for my hair, but now I think my hair is just a really good extension of who I am and my creativity and it can do anything.”
The 49-year-old star explained that she never used to have any “opinions of thoughts” about her own hair, but that changed when she became a teenager.
She added: “As a child, I had no opinions or thoughts about my hair. I didn’t even know it was a thing that I should have opinions or thoughts about.
“But then you hit teenage life and you’re comparing yourself to everyone else, and what everyone is telling you makes you desirable or not.”
Ross has teamed up with H and M and Nikki Porcher – the founder of the nonprofit Buy From A Black Woman – to boost Black women business owners through investment.

The former ‘Drop tthe Mic’ host – who is the daughter of Hollywood star Stephen Baldwin and the niece of his brother Alec – went on to explain that her skincare brand came about when wanted to “dive deeper” into the creation of skincare products and concluded that te most expensive products are not always the most effective.
She told Forbes: “I always wanted to start my own brand in general; I chose to go with skincare first because I reached a point where I had been modelling for a long time. I had already known what I liked in skincare and what worked for me. But I wanted to dive deeper into the structure of everything. The conclusion I came to was the expensive stuff doesn’t necessarily mean it works better than tried and true, solid, affordable stuff. I came to this idea of making very luxurious products and solid formulas that you could get for an affordable price, and also that was aesthetically pleasing and fun!”

Funmi Monet: My therapist told me to share my beauty tips on TikTok

OHMYGOSSIP — Funmi Monet only started sharing her beauty tips as a result of therapy.
The 31-year-old TikTok star has amassed more than 150,000 followers on the video-sharing app by sharing her fragrance and beauty tips and admitted that it became a “meaningful” part of her recovery from depression.
She said: “I was seeing a therapist at the time after going through a few months of horrible depression and anxiety. My therapist urged me to find an outlet to share things that spark joy and create community. Pivoting my content towards fragrance was something that occurred naturally over the course of my social media journey. Sharing my daily skin-care and beauty routine was something that became meaningful for me while I was in therapy. ”
The social media influencer – who has since become known as TikTok’s “favourite fragrance auntie” and launched the Exalté Eau de Parfum earlier this year – added that she “didn’t realise” there was an audience for fragrance-themed content until she started to share her collection on Instagram and created her perfume with a “large spectrum” of people in mind.
She told Allure: “I didn’t realise there was an audience for fragrance content as well until I began sharing snippets of my collection through my Instagram Stories. People respond enthusiastically to perfume because it doesn’t necessarily require a certain level of expertise to pick up a bottle and enjoy how you interact with the scent.
“I created Exalté thinking about the woman looking for a signature scent. For people who don’t necessarily have a vast perfume collection, your signature scent is the fragrance people associate with you and can often identify you before even seeing you. I wanted to create a classic fragrance that could be enjoyed by a wide spectrum of ages and lifestyles that also invites intimacy. ”
During the launch of the perfume back in February, she wrote on Instagram: “From fragrance auntie to fragrance boss. Just your friendly neighborhood perfume pushaaaaaa!”(sic)

Michelle Visage teams up with ASICS for exercise challenge

OHMYGOSSIP — Michelle Visage has teamed up with ASICS to launch the 15:09 Uplift Challenge.
The ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ star wants to urge people to get moving this month to raise funds for mental health charity Mind after research from the sports apparel brand found just 15 minutes and nine seconds of exercise can be all it takes to get a mental uplift.
She said: “Listen, we know we’re all busier than ever right now, but health is still important. The facts are clear, you only need 15 minutes and 9 seconds of movement to improve your mental health.
“So, the next time you find yourself worrying over what emoji to use or offering advice to someone who you know won’t listen – stop and think about yourself, put that phone down, get your kit on my loves, and move for your mind.”
To take part in the challenge, people need to move for at least 15:09 minutes to help uplift their mind and capture their activity in a video or photo. Every image or clip posted to Twitter, Facebook, TikTok or Instagram tagged with #ASICS1509 during June will raise money for Mind.
ASICS research also found that 18-24 year olds in the UK – Gen Z – are the age most in need of a mind uplift after they scored lowest in mental wellbeing and exercising the least, with the main barrier to the latter being a lack of time.
But the surveyed members of Gen Z admitted they spend up to 102 minutes a day on needless tasks and procrastination, which is why they are being challenged to find just 15:09 minutes to prioritise exercise and benefit their mental wellbeing.
Gary Raucher, Executive Vice President, ASICS EMEA said: “At ASICS, we’ve always believed in the power of exercise to uplift the mind. Our latest research shows that even small amounts of exercise can have a big impact on how we feel. So, this June, we’re calling on everyone to move and to help lift spirits and raise valuable funds for mental health charity Mind.”
Hayley Jarvis, Head of Physical Activity at Mind added: “At Mind, we believe physical activity has an important role in supporting people to stay and live well. It’s fantastic to see ASICS’ recent research that shows it may only take 15 minutes to boost your mood. Knowing that a short walk at lunchtime can help uplift the mind, or counter the stresses from work and daily life, is a game-changer.”

Hailey Bieber had ‘advisory board’ for Rhode

OHMYGOSSIP — Hailey Bieber enlisted the services of a “skin care advisory board” for her brand Rhode.
The 25-year-old beauty spent two years working on her first three products, Peptide Glazing Fluid – a hydrating serum-gel – Barrier Restore Cream and Peptide Lip Treatment, and though she wanted to keep things simple with an uncomplicated ingredients list, she brought in scientific experts to help create the perfect formulas.
She told Allure: “Obviously, I can totally admit that I don’t know what I don’t know — so I had the idea to bring in a skin care advisory board.
“We brought in a dermatologist, we consulted with a cosmetic chemist… I had conversations with a lot of people that are very influential and knowledgeable in the skin-care space. And that was really how we brought these formulas to life in the labs.”
But Hailey was quick to stress she was still heavily involved.
She said: “No decision has been made without me. I was the one who was going to the labs and explaining how I wanted it to feel and the results I wanted it to deliver.”
And the model believes being “extremely picky” has paid off and she’s confident about the collection.
She said: “If there was something that was even the teeniest bit off, I wasn’t going to approve it because I don’t want to bulls*** with this brand.
“I don’t want to cut corners. I want amazing formulas. I want to give people amazing products.”
At the top of Hailey’s ingredient list was niacinamine, a form of Vitamin B which helps prevent inflamation and UV damage, minimise the appearance of pores and strengthen the skin’s barrier.
She said: “One of my favorite skin-care ingredients of all time is niacinamide.
“I saw such a big difference in my skin with niacinamide, and I have very sensitive skin.”
Peptides – strings of amino acids which help boost collagen production – also feature in all three products, as do squalane, glycerin and hyaluronic acid.

Rina Sawayama ‘loves being a chameleon in clothes’

OHMYGOSSIP — Rina Sawayama “loves being a chameleon in clothes”.
The ‘This Hell’ hitmaker was so excited to try on loads of outfits for her Elle shoot.
The 31-year-old pop star told the fashion bible how much she “loves being a chameleon in clothes” and outlined her belief that haute couture – by houses such as Schiaparelli and Chanel – is “obviously is the pinnacle of fashion and artistry and tailoring and creativity. I was so, so excited.”
Rina also gushed about her love of South Korean designer Miss Sohee as she “kept touching the clothes because they were so well-constructed.
The ‘XS’ hitmaker touched upon her former career as a professional clothes horse, which gave her a “big appreciation” for the work that goes into bringing a fashion shoot to life.
She said: “I actually started off as a model, so I have a big appreciation for everyone on set, and I’m quite used to being a canvas.”
Rina – who now regularly collaborates with stylist Jordan Kelsey – gave insight into how she had to “work” to get to work with big designers in her career.
At the start of her foray into music, she said: “It was more ad hoc, there wasn’t really a plan…. Obviously, when you enter this industry, it’s hard to pull looks. You’ve got to work your way up there to be trusted by PRs and fashion houses to wear these pieces. I feel so lucky that I’ve slowly built my relationships with designers in a way that they’ll loan me these incredible pieces.”
Of Jordan, Rina said: “She’s so intelligent, and she really thinks ahead about what a certain brand is going to add to my project or how people perceive what I’m doing. It’s just so fun to talk with someone who speaks my language in that sense. And so, for this upcoming record, it’s been a way more consistent vision.”
The ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ star gushed how “crazy it was to be in the front row” at New York Fashion Week with stars such as Angus Cloud, Megan Thee Stallion and Tommy Dorfman.
“I mean, I spent the longest time trying to get into shows at London Fashion Week, and it’s just so crazy to be in the front row. It’s such an honour to be able to see these clothes and have the pure, direct expression of what the designer or creative director is thinking for that collection, and it’s fed to your eyeballs straight away.”
