OHMYGOSSIP — Faye Dunaway insists the Oscars blunder which saw her mistakenly name ‘La La Land’ as the winner of the Best Picture prize “wasn’t Warren Beatty’s fault”.
Chaos ensued at the 89th annual Academy Awards at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre on Sunday night (26.02.16) after Faye, 76, said that the musical movie had won the evening’s biggest award after she and Hollywood legend Warren, 79, were given the wrong envelope before stepping onto the stage.
After being told there was a mix-up, ‘La La Land’ producer Jordan Horowitz took to the mic and called up everyone who worked on ‘Moonlight’ to the stage telling them that they were the real victors.
‘The Towering Inferno’ actress admits it was a “very odd thing” but no one was to blame, especially not Warren.
She told The Daily Telegraph newspaper: “It was very quick; I can’t talk about it. The card read that way. It was a very odd thing. It wasn’t Warren’s fault.”
The mistake came as the pair were handed the wrong envelope, with the paper they were given listing the winner for Best Actress in a Leading Role – which went to Emma Stone for ‘La La Land’ – as opposed to Best Picture.
Warren said on stage after ‘Moonlight’ had been named as the winner: “I opened the envelope and it said Emma Stone, ‘La La Land’ – that’s why I took such a long look at you and Faye.
“I wasn’t trying to be funny.”
Accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) is responsible for calculating the results of the voting process and are in charge of handing the envelopes to presenters, and have apologised unreservedly for the mistake.
The company said in a statement: “We sincerely apologise to ‘Moonlight’, ‘La La Land’, Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Oscar viewers for the error that was made during the award announcement for Best Picture.
“The presenters had mistakenly been given the wrong category envelope and when discovered, was immediately corrected. We are currently investigating how this could have happened, and deeply regret that this occurred. We appreciate the grace with which the nominees, the Academy, ABC, and Jimmy Kimmel handled the situation.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Scarlett Johansson wants to remain “politically active”.
The 32-year-old actress – who was a headline speaker at the Women’s March in Washington shortly after the inauguration of President Donald Trump – has said she will continue to keep speaking out about political issues, as she was always “encouraged to be involved” when she was growing up.
She said: “I don’t plan on not using my voice any time soon. I’ve always been politically active. My parents … my grandmother always encouraged us to be involved.”
And the ‘Ghost in the Shell’ star also acknowledged critics who have slammed celebrities for getting involved in political discourse.
Speaking to People on the Oscars red carpet in Los Angeles on Sunday night (26.02.17), she said: “You put yourself kinda out there and people will have something to say about it, and that’s OK.”
And it isn’t just political issues that Scarlett – who has two-year-old daughter Rose with her estranged husband Romain Dauriac – actively voices her opinions on.
The ‘Ghost in the Shell’ star previously claimed monogamy is “unnatural” and said it is “a lot of work” to be in a relationship with just one person.
Scarlett – who was also previously married to Ryan Reynolds between 2008 and 2011 – said: “Well, with every gain there’s a loss, right? So that’s a loss. You have to choose a path. I think the idea of marriage is very romantic; it’s a beautiful idea, and the practice of it can be a very beautiful thing. I don’t think it’s natural to be a monogamous person. I might be skewered for that, but I think it’s work. It’s a lot of work.
“And the fact that it is such work for so many people – for everyone – the fact of that proves that it is not a natural thing. It’s something I have a lot of respect for and have participated in, but I think it definitely goes against some instinct to look beyond.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Russell Brand unintentionally sparked a “Willy Wonka themed riot” when he handed out candy in a poor “shanty town” in India.
The 41-year-old comedian – who has three-month-old daughter Mabel with his girlfriend Laura Gallacher – has urged his fans to carry out charity work but only in “allegiance and alliance with” established organisations as he learned that things can quickly go wrong when he tried to treat some impoverished kids during a visit to the South Asian country.
Speaking on a YouTube video as part of his ‘Trews’ series, Russell said: “Right near you there are people who require help, but try not to do it on your own.
“I made this terrible mistake once when I was in India, here is that mistake. I bought loads of sweets and gave them to children in some kind of shanty town poor place, and it was the wrong way of doing things. I see that now, because it created what can only be described as a sort of Willy Wonka themed riot.
“What I should’ve done is spoken to charitable organisations that distribute food but that wouldn’t have fulfilled me in my whimsical, narcissistic, ‘Let’s go and give out candy in the shanty town,’ Christ complex. But I’ve learned that it’s better to help in allegiance and alliance with others in a structured way and I suggest you do that too.”
But Russell doesn’t believe that his experience should deter people from being charitable, as he urged his fans to “commit” to helping others.
Whilst a quote from German writer Goethe that read “Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now” appeared on screen, Russell added: “Pursue it, and the pathway will appear. There’s a very good Goethe quote for this that has to do with commitment. Commit to it.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Mahershala Ali is looking forward to spending quality time with his new baby daughter now awards season is over.
The 43-year-old actor has had a hectic few months with his film ‘Moonlight’ proving a success at a number of awards ceremonies, but he is now ready to “get into” being a dad to little Bari Najma, who was born on February 22, and spending time with wife Amatus Sami-Karin.
He said of being a father: “It’s been remarkable. I know I really get to get into it tomorrow because awards season is done after tonight, but it’s been remarkable. It’s such a blessing to be a father.”
And Mahershala – who scooped the Best Actor in a Supporting Role at Sunday’s (26.02.17) Oscars – has a new admiration for how “tough” his wife is after witnessing her going through childbirth without pain relief.
Speaking on the red carpet at the ceremony at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre, he told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “Hands down, women are the toughest beings on the planet.
“I’m not saying that to be cool. I don’t care if you have children, choose to have children. I don’t care if you took every pain medication in the world to have children.
“She did not [have an epidural]. She had it natural.
“I’m telling you, women are the toughest beings on the planet — incredible seeing this eight-pound being come out of your body and just work that out. Unbelievable.”
And the actor was amazed at how quickly Amatus went through labour as she “knocked it out” and their little girl was born faster than anyone had expected.
He said: “She just kicked in so quickly that the doctor came in sprinting, sweating. The doula came in, like, ‘What?!’ It just started happening really quickly and my wife just knocked it out. I don’t have the words, honestly.”
In his Oscar acceptance speech, Mahershala thanked his wife for her support and admitted beforehand it was important for him to acknowledge everything she does for him.
He said: “I just want to tell her I love her and she’s gonna know that every day. Every day I’m around, she’s going to know that.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel “don’t know” if they always like their young son.
The couple think 22-month-old Silas is “amazing” but are finding things quite “hard” at the moment because he is going through a difficult stage, but they are hoping it is a phase that doesn’t last.
Speaking on the red carpet at the Oscars, Justin said: “He does not want the diapers changed. He’s hitting his terrible twos a little early, so we’re hoping he’ll get out of them a little early.”
Jessica admitted: “He’s doing amazing, but it’s one of those things where you’re like, I love you, but I don’t know if I like you.”
And her spouse added: “There’s other moments where you’re like, This is really hard and I don’t know what the hell I’m doing.”
The 36-year-old singer – who opened the Academy Awards with a performance of ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’ from ‘Trolls – was up for his first-ever Oscar this year, and even before the ceremony began, he already felt like he’d won because his 34-year-old spouse looked so stunning in her Kaufmanfranco gown.
Asked if he’d helped Jessica choose her dress, Justin – who lost out to ‘City of Stars’ from ‘La La Land’ told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “I just admired. We were on our way here and I was like, ‘I win. Everybody go home.’ I have my own gold statuette already.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Kenny Goss says he and George Michael should never have split up.
The Texan art dealer dated the ‘Careless Whisper’ hitmaker for 13 years from 1996 to 2009, and in his first televised interview since the star’s death on Christmas Day (25.12.16) at the age of 53, he has opened up about their feelings for one and other and how he misses him more than ever now he is gone.
Speaking in a preview for an NBC show, which is to be aired on Monday evening (27.02.17), he shared: “He was truly the love of my life. And I think I was the love of his life.
“I think we both wished certainly that we would have stayed together. I really miss him. You really miss him when you know that’s not an option any more.”
Kenny has refused to comment on George’s boyfriend of four years, Fadi Fawaz, who found the 80s pop legend dead at his home in Goring-on-Thames in Oxfordshire.
George had a tough time after splitting from Kenny, including crashing his car into photo shop Snappy Snaps in 2010, receiving a six-month driving ban and an eight-week jail term as well as being struck down with a “life-threatening” bout of pneumonia.
He also fell out of a moving car onto a motorway in May 2013, and last year is believed to have visited a Swiss rehab clinic.
Last month, George’s father Kyriacos Panayiotou said he wants to include Kenny in the memorial as a “public acceptance” of his late son’s homosexuality.
A source previously said: “It is not acceptable in our community to be homosexual and so that was very hard for George’s father, but we accepted George as he was.
“George was a hero for our community, and the Greek radio stations are expected to play the funeral in its entirety.
“We are all waiting for the word and will be lining the streets to pay our respects.”
George’s sudden death is still being treated as “non-suspicious”.
It was initially thought he had died from heart failure but it’s now believed the singer passed away from an overdose of illegal or prescription drugs.

OHMYGOSSIP — Matt LeBlanc plans on retiring in his 50s.
The ‘Friends’ legend turns 50 on July 25 and is starting to “take stock” of his life and wants to achieve everything he had ever planned to in his professional life in the near future.
The dark-haired hunk has reportedly decided to call time on his career in acting and television so he can have a more “personal life” and spend more time with his 13-year-old daughter Marina, whom he has with his former model ex-wife Melissa McKnight.
According to the Daily Star newspaper, Matt said on set of his motoring show ‘Top Gear’: “I want to retire in my early fifties.
“I want everything set up. Otherwise you look and go ’50! Whooo, where did that go?’
“I’m beginning to take stock. I want retirement accomplished.”
The ‘Episodes’ star previously spoke of how much he enjoys hanging out with his daughter and cherishes the time because he knows she won’t always want to be with him.
He said: “I love it when I’m with my daughter. We make bacon and eggs and sit and talk over how she slept, what she dreamed about, what we should do that day.
“I’m clinging on to those moments because I’m not Rihanna so she won’t want to hang out for much longer.

OHMYGOSSIP — Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson planned to go home and “make more babies” after ‘Moana’ failed to win at the Oscars.
The 44-year-old actor – who has daughter Simone, 14, from a past relationship, and Jasmine, 14 months, with partner Lauren Hashian – was “incredibly honoured” that his animated film was up for two awards at Sunday’s (26.02.17) Academy Awards.
And though the movie didn’t win the Animated Feature Film or Original Song prizes, Dwayne wasn’t too upset as he’d put plans in place depending on whether he was celebrating or commiserating.
Speaking in an Instagram video before the ceremony, he said: “Here we go, it is big Oscar Sunday, Academy Awards tonight. It’s our biggest night of the year, live in front of the world. We’re gonna have so much fun. I’m getting my pre-Oscar workout in right now.
“I want to say congratulations to all my buddies who’ve been nominated, so proud of you. Congrats to my studio executive buddies, their incredible movies nominated this season, such an awesome thing, and incredibly honored to be nominated twice tonight for Moana. Such a cool thing.

OHMYGOSSIP — John Legend thought he’d ruin Chrissy Teigen’s Oscars dress.
The ‘All of Me’ singer – who performed ‘City of Stars’ and ‘Audition’ from ‘La La Land’ at the Academy Awards – was joined on the red carpet at Sunday’s (26.02.17) ceremony by his stunning wife and couldn’t help but repeatedly step on the train of her lavish Zuhair Murad gown.
He admitted: “This dress will be stepped on at least 30 times tonight. It just might fall apart.
“Every Oscars, I step on her dress. Every train she’s had, I’ve stepped on.”
Chrissy quipped: “Oh, it’s been 11 years! I’m very used to it.”
Earlier in the week, the 38-year-old singer shared a video of his 10-month-old daughter Luna helping him rehearse for his performance, but he joked the tot hasn’t inherited his musical talents.
Asked about Luna’s piano skills, he laughed to ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “It’s terrible. She’s not good at it.”
But he is hopeful she will grasp the instrument when she’s older.

OHMYGOSSIP — The company which compiles the Oscar results have “sincerely apologised” for the mix-up which led to ‘La La Land’ incorrectly being announced as winning Best Picture at Sunday’s (26.02.17) ceremony.
Accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) tabulates the results of the voting process and are in charge of handing the envelopes to presenters, and so have accepted responsibility for the gaffe which saw Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway handed the results of the Best Actress in a Leading Role award, which went to ‘La La Land’ star Emma Stone, leading to them announcing the musical had won the night’s big award, when in fact it should have gone to ‘Moonlight’.
The company said in a statement: “We sincerely apologise to ‘Moonlight’, ‘La La Land’, Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Oscar viewers for the error that was made during the award announcement for Best Picture.
“The presenters had mistakenly been given the wrong category envelope and when discovered, was immediately corrected. We are currently investigating how this could have happened, and deeply regret that this occurred. We appreciate the grace with which the nominees, the Academy, ABC, and Jimmy Kimmel handled the situation.”
The company previously explained that, for security purposes, they have two sets of briefcases at the side of the stage at the ceremony, which each contain the evening’s results.
Brian Cullinan of PwC said: “From a security perspective, we double up everything.
“That’s why there’s two of us. We have two briefcases, that are identical, and we have two entire sets of winning envelopes. Martha [L. Ruiz] carries one of those briefcases, I carry the other..
“We go to the show separately with police escorts. I used to think it was for our security, it’s really for the briefcase [laughs].
“We take different routes to get there just because of the kinds of things that can happen in L.A. traffic. We want to make sure that no matter what happens, one of us gets there. We’ve never really had a problem with that.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jimmy Kimmel joked Warren Beatty has had “so much sex”, he couldn’t concentrate at the Academy Awards.
The Oscars presenter made light of the fact the veteran actor, an infamous womaniser, and Faye Dunaway mistakenly read out ‘La La Land’ as the winner of Best Picture, which was really won by ‘Moonlight’, at Sunday’s (26.02.17) ceremony, but admitted he is unsure what actually happened.
He quipped: “Warren Beatty has had so much sex he can’t think about it right. This is a guy who probably never had to sign anything, he just has people do that for him.”
But Jimmy confirmed the pair had been handed an envelope which stated ‘Emma Stone – ‘La La Land” – seemingly a duplicate of the Best Actress in a Leading Role winner reveal – prompting the confusion.
Speaking during the ABC Aftershow, he said: “I don’t know the whole story — there’s a couple things I do know though. The envelope Warren Beatty was holding said best actress. That I do know.
“He was confused because the card, which he showed to be me by the way, said, ‘Emma Stone, La La Land.’ We thought he was being coy and cute and milking it, but in reality he was as perplexed as anybody.”
And the ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ presenter admitted he never expected the ending of the prestigious ceremony to be so dramatic but that’s just what he loves about live television.
He added: “You know, you do a talk show every night and you thrive on these moments. This is exactly what you want.”
Emma previously insisted she was still clutching her Best Actress in a Leading Role winner’s card when the Best Picture announcement was made.
She said: “I was holding my Best Actress in a Leading Role card that entire time.
“So whatever story – I don’t mean to start stuff – but whatever story that was, I had the card. So, I’m not sure what happened.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Mahershala Ali admits it was “very hard to feel joy” under the circumstances in which ‘Moonlight’ won the Best Picture Oscar.
The 43-year-old actor “wasn’t surprised” when ‘La La Land’ was announced as the winner of the prestigious award on Sunday (26.02.17) so was completely thrown when it was then revealed there had been a mistake and his own film had actually taken the honour.
And Mahershala doesn’t think it is right to “take something away from someone else”.
Speaking backstage at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre, Mahershala – who also won Best Supporting Actor – said: “‘La La Land’ has done so well and it’s resonated with so many people, especially in this time when people need a sense of buoyancy in their life.
“That film has really impacted people in a very different way than ‘Moonlight’, so when their name was read, I wasn’t surprised – was really happy for them. It’s a group of really extraordinary people.
“When I did see security or people coming out on stage and their moment was being disrupted in some way, I got really worried.
“And then when they said ‘Moonlight’ wins, it just threw me a bit. It threw me more than a bit!
“I just didn’t want to go up there and take something from somebody. It’s very hard to feel joy in a moment like that, but I feel very fortunate for all of us to have walked away with the Best Picture award. It’s pretty remarkable.”
Mahershala’s co-star, Naomie Harris, thought the gaffe was a joke at their expense.
She told People: “It is really surreal. I went up on stage with this weird expression on my face like, ‘What is happening?’
“I don’t know what I’m going to look like onscreen.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Dev Patel was “so excited” to take his mother to the Oscars.
The 26-year-old actor – who lost out on the Best Supporting Actor prize for his role in ‘Lion’ to ‘Moonlight’ star Mahershala Ali – walked the red carpet with his mum Anita by his side and credited her for helping him follow his dreams.
Speaking on the red carpet at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre, Dev told Baz Bamigboye for the Daily Mail newspaper: “She encouraged me to act in the first place. She always told me to work hard and do my best and I’ve followed her instructions. She’s worked hard all her life and I hope that I’ve followed her example
“I’m so excited that my mum is my plus one.”
And Anita was stunned to be by her son’s side at the glamorous event on Sunday (26.02.17) evening.
She said: “I never thought I’d be here…
“I went to his first audition and today I’m here,”
But Dev felt it was only right he brought along his parent because of the themes of ‘Lion’, in which he plays Saroo Brierley, who tries to trace his Indian birth family after being adopted by an Australian couple.
He told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “This is a film about mothers and sons and their love.
“So to bring [my mother] you know – I didn’t even think it was going to… fathom that this was going to happen and it has so, I’m very grateful.”
The ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ star’s mother insisted she wasn’t surprised by Dev’s success because he has always been “destined” to be an actor.
She recalled of his younger years: “He was a cartoon really. A comic at home as well. He’d make fun of everyone. He could pretend to be anyone really, he’d copy everyone’s accents — he’d make us all laugh.”

The 41-year-old actor – who has kids Indiana, 12, and Atticus, nine, with estranged wife Summer Phoenix – picked up the Best Actor in a Leading Role prize at Sunday’s (26.02.17) ceremony and though he paid tribute to his parents, brother Ben Affleck, co-producer Matt Damon, screenwriter and director Kenneth Lonergan, his friends, and fellow nominee Denzel Washington, his “mind went blank” and he accidentally forgot to thank his offspring.
Speaking backstage at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre, he said: ”
“Three seconds after I got backstage, my son said, ‘You didn’t even mention us.’ And my heart just sank.
“My head was completely blank at the shock of winning.”
And ahead of the Oscars, Casey – who stars opposite Michelle Williams as a troubled man who lost his children and is then forced to confront his past when he reluctantly takes on the care of his nephew in ‘Manchester by the Sea’ – credited his older brother Ben’s success for helping him cope with life in the spotlight.
He told ‘Entertainment Tonight’ on the red carpet: “It maybe seems hard from the outside but he’s had a pretty good time and I’ve had a weird life.
“I’ve been out here since I was 17 years old and so I’ve gotten to know lots of actors who have had a lot of success and some failures and some hard times and some success again.
“I’ve been able to see other people’s careers and how they’ve worked out and it’s been an education.

OHMYGOSSIP — Emma Stone insists she “had the card” which named her as an Oscar winner.
Chaos occurred at Sunday (26.02.17) evening’s Academy Awards ceremony when ‘La La Land’ was mistakenly named as the Best Picture winner instead of ‘Moonlight’ and presenter Warren Beatty explained he and Faye Dunaway had been handed an envelope with the 28-year-old star’s name listed, leading to the confusion.
However, Best Actress winner Emma said: “I was holding my Best Actress in a Leading Role card that entire time.
“So whatever story – I don’t mean to start stuff – but whatever story that was, I had the card. So, I’m not sure what happened. And I really wanted to talk to you guys first.”
Despite the disappointment, Emma – who starred in the Damien Chazelle-directed film alongside Ryan Gosling – insisted she was thrilled ‘Moonlight’ had taken Best Picture because she “f***ing loved” the film “so much”.
Speaking backstage at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre, she said: “I f**ing loved ‘Moonlight’. God, I love ‘Moonlight’ so much! I’m so excited for ‘Moonlight’!
“And, of course, it was an amazing thing to hear ‘La La Land’. I think we all would have loved to win Best Picture.
“But we are so excited for ‘Moonlight’. I think it is one of the best films of all time. So I was pretty beside myself.”
After getting on stage to accept the Best Picture award, the ‘La La Land’ team were told: “I’m sorry, no, there’s a mistake. This is not a joke, ‘Moonlight’ has won Best Picture. This is not a joke. Moonlight has won Best Picture.”
Warren then said: “This is not a joke, I’m afraid I read the wrong thing.”
Host Jimmy Kimmel then took to the stage and said: “This is very unfortunate what happened. I would like to see you get an Oscar anyway, why can’t we just give out a whole bunch?”
Warren had taken some time to read out the winner and explained he had been given the wrong envelope.
He said: “I opened the envelope and it said Emma Stone, ‘La La Land’ – that’s why I took such a long look at you and Faye.
“I wasn’t trying to be funny.”
He then re-presented the prize to ‘Moonlight’ but director Barry Jenkins appeared too stunned by the turn of events to give a proper speech.

OHMYGOSSIP — George Michael’s former partner Kenny Goss says the singer was “the love of his life”.
The Texan art dealer dated George – who was 53 when he tragically passed away on Christmas Day (25.12.16) – for 13 years from 1996 to 2009, and in a touching tribute he has said that the ‘Careless Whisper’ hitmaker was and always will be loved by him and he “truly” believes he felt the same way about him.
Reflecting on their long relationship, Kenny told Dallas Morning News: “We just had a really good, sweet relationship.
“We weren’t even mad at each other or anything like that.
“He was truly the love of my life. And I think I was the love of his life.”
Kenny, 58, – who found out about George’s death through his sister Melanie – also spoke of the Wham! star’s charitable nature and how he gave away millions of his fortune to help others more in need.
He said: “He just wrote huge cheques, enormous ones.
“He gave away tens of millions of pounds to charity.”
Kenny refused to comment on George’s boyfriend of four years, Fadi Fawaz, who found the 80s pop legend dead at his home in Goring in Oxfordshire.
George’s sudden death is still being treated as “non-suspicious” but a major crime unit from Thames Valley Police has been brought in to piece together the days leading up to his death.
It was initially thought George had died from heart failure but it’s now believed the singer passed away from an overdose of illegal or prescription drugs.
George had a tough time after splitting from Kenny, including crashing his car into photo shop Snappy Snaps in 2010, receiving a six-month driving ban and an eight-week jail term as well as being struck down with a “life-threatening” bout of pneumonia.
He also fell out of a moving car onto a motorway in May 2013, and last year is believed to have visited a Swiss rehab clinic.
