‘James Bond’ actor Colin Salmon also paid tribute to Quincy and declared the “maestro” had “changed the world”.
Sharing a photo of them together, the 62-year-old star wrote on X: “Quincy Jones was a true musical Don, from Ray Charles, Sinatra, Michael Jackson; more recently championing Jacob Collier and beyond. As a kid his major influence for me was the soundtrack to the Italian Job.

Priscilla Presley reflects on what made her known for being more than just ‘Elvis’ ex’

OHMYGOSSIP — Priscilla Presley thinks her movie work helped her step out of Elvis Presley’s shadow.
The 79-year-old star has reflected on how she felt more like her “own person” with the work she chose after getting divorced from the late music legend in 1973.
During a panel at Rhode Island Comic Con, the star was asked which projects she felt best represented her “as Priscilla rather than Elvis’s ex.”
People magazine reports she said: “I think the movies that I’ve done. I think of just, basically, it was my choice.
“The movies I loved and, I mean, ‘Naked Guns’. Being on ‘Dallas ‘was great.
“That really freed me a bit of being my own person.”
Elsewhere during the discussion, Priscilla admitted she preferred the ‘Jailhouse Rock’ hitmaker’s early work because she felt her former spouse – who died in August 1977 aged 42 – was “controlled” by his manager, Colonel Parker, too much in his later years.
She said: “I think the first, when he first started out, I mean he picked those songs himself, but he wasn’t so controlled by Colonel.
“He was pretty free to be him, even with the first movies. He loved what he did. [Everything changed] just when Colonel started coming in and picking out what he felt that he should be doing.”
Priscilla “doesn’t mind” hearing cover versions of Elvis’ songs because it keeps him relevant.
She said: “I don’t mind it.
“It’s certainly not Elvis, but I think it’s keeping his name out there with the younger people, and I know a lot of people who have taken their kids to see the cover, the, what do you call it? Impersonators. And these little kids are loving it.
“At first, I didn’t like it. Then, I was seeing what’s happening with these kids, young kids who are dressed like Elvis. Five-year-olds. I’m thinking it’s keeping him in the picture, alive, and so, I don’t mind it.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Adrianna Edwards “loved” her fight scenes in ‘Bloodline’.
The actress plays the lead role of Bella in the new movie – which she co-wrote with directors Temple Capital and JoJo George – and she relished the chance to work with Indian stunt co-ordinator Mafia Sasi aka Sasidharan.
Speaking at the premiere of the movie in London’s Leicester Square last week, she said: “I loved working on the fight scenes with Mafi Sasi.”
Her co-star, Abbas Alizada – who portrays Lee – is also very “proud” of the film.
He said: “I’m proud of what we have achieved with this film.”

Kevin Bacon more ‘driven’ than ever

OHMYGOSSIP — Kevin Bacon feels “more driven than ever”.
The 66-year-old actor insisted there is no secret to his long career and he’s determined to continue to make the most of the opportunities that come his way while he still can.
He told The Sunday Times magazine: “Even now, at 66, I still feel driven, perhaps more than ever. It’s like I’m going, well, there’s not that much road left! Some people say that I should take my foot off the gas but I don’t want to.
“There is no secret to longevity — longevity is the secret. Having said that, I don’t think about all this too much: age, the future, life. Maybe I just said that, about there not being too much road left, because I thought it would look good in print?”
As well as his acting career, the ‘Footloose’ star is also in a band, The Bacon Brothers, with his older sibling Michael Bacon, but he’s never wanted to capitalise on his big screen success to further his music career.
He said: “For us, it’s been very grassroots. There has never been any part of me that said, let’s see, I’m a successful actor, what I want to do now is have a record deal. It was never like that.
“It’s always felt as if we were 18, just starting out, touring all the small clubs, packing our own gear and just enjoying ourselves.”
And Kevin insisted fans don’t only turn out to his concerts just because of his fame.
He said: “I have always been realistic about my fame in all this. The people who come to the shows don’t come to hear our hit record because we haven’t had a hit record! But they don’t come just because of me; they know our music and they sing along.
“With all the tremendous success I’ve had in acting — and I’ve been very grateful for it — there have also been many ups and downs, and at least a hundred times more disappointments and career heartbreaks. But you just keep pounding away.”

Paul Mescal worried about attracting more attention

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Mescal will be “profoundly depressed” if ‘Gladiator II’ brings him more attention.
The 28-year-old actor appreciates being able to go about his everyday life with minimal intrusion so he is concerned about being propelled further into the spotlight with the upcoming release of the blockbuster and vowed to counteract any surge in fame with a stint in an “obtuse play” to get his balance back.
Asked how life may change when the film comes out, he told Sunday Times Culture magazine: “I don’t know what the difference will be. Maybe that’s naive? Is it just that more people will stop you in the street? I’d get profoundly depressed if that’s so.
“If the film impacts my life in that way I’ll be in a bad spot. I’d have to move on and do an obtuse play nobody wants to see.”
The ‘All Of Us Strangers’ actor is frustrated with the idea of films being regarded as “content” and there to attract as much attention as possible at the expense of true artistry.
He said: “Over the last few years people have been talking about films as content.
“That’s a filthy word. It’s not ‘content’, it’s f******work.
“I’m not being snobby, but there are two concurrent industries. One that works with a lack of care, artistic integrity. Go nuts, make stuff with Instagram followers as a factor, whatever … But the other is what has always been there — the craft of film — making, directing, lighting and production design. That keeps artists alive.”
Among the other projects Paul has lined up is ‘Merrily We Roll Along’, which director Richard Linklater began shooting in 2022 and will return to every two years for the next 20.
The Oscar-nominated star quipped of his casting opposite Beanie Feldstein: “At least I’ll be employed for the next 20 years.”

Prince William celebrates young ‘changemakers’ on first South African engagement

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince William has celebrated the “future changemakers” who will have a major “impact” on the world after arriving in South Africa.
The Prince of Wales is spending four days in Cape Town for his Earthshot Prize ceremony – which awards a £1 million prize to five recipients fund their environmental initiatives – and his first engagement on Monday (04.11.24) was with 120 young people from across Africa and South East Asia as part of the Earthshot Prize Climate Leaders Youth Program.
Speaking to the group about their ideas to tackle climate issues, William said: “The Earthshot Prize believes in you, and the reason we set the prize up is for moments like this.
“All of you in this room are future changemakers, you’re the leaders, you’re the people going to make the difference going forwards.
“It’s your platform. Use it as you need to, take it away, play with it, turn it into something different.
“Because we believe in you, and what you’re going to do is change the world, I really believe that.
“This is the generation that are going to do that. And your solutions and your impact are so important and so needed right now. This is not noble, this is business, and what you’re doing is creating solutions and a better life for all of us.
“Keep it going. Keep the energy up.”
Ahead of his visit to Africa, William – who has three children with wife Catherine, Princess of Wales – admitted the continent will always hold a “special place” in his heart.
He said in a statement: “Africa has always held a special place in my heart – as somewhere I found comfort as a teenager, where I proposed to my wife and most recently as the founding inspiration behind the Earthshot Prize.
“It was in Namibia in 2018 that I realised the power of how innovative, positive solutions to environmental problems could drive transformative change for humans and nature.”

Kevin Smith shaped by relationship with Joey Lauren Adams

OHMYGOSSIP — Kevin Smith’s relationship with Joey Lauren Adams changed him for the better.
The 54-year-old director met the actress, now 56, while making ‘Mallrats’ in 1995 and though their romance was short-lived as they had split by July 1997, he admitted his “muse” – who was the lead in his 1997 film ‘Chasing Amy’ – had a transformative effect on him.
Speaking in new documentary ‘Chasing Chasing Amy’, Kevin said of Joey: “She was my muse.
“I became the person that I became for the rest of my life because of that relationship. I never went back to being the other guy.
And Kevin doesn’t think his marriage to Jennifer Schwalbach Smith – who he married in 1999 after just over a year of dating – would have lasted so long without his experiences from his relationship with Joey.
He added: “There’s no way I would be in a marriage that has lasted 20 years if I didn’t meet Joey and she didn’t shape me.”
The ‘4:30 Movie’ writer-and-director recently claimed the key to his marriage to Jennifer – with whom he has one child, 25-year-old actress Harley Quinn Smith – lasting so long was that there are “no rules”.
He told People magazine: “My first instinct is, well, there’ve been no rules, and that’s probably why it’s worked so well for 25 years.
“I can’t speak for her, but I just like seeing her. I just like being around her. She’s my human.”
Kevin – who met Jennifer when she was a journalist interviewing him about his ‘Clerks’ comic book – praised his 53-year-old wife for her support over the years.
He said: “I spend a lot of time on the road and doing gigs elsewhere and whatnot, and over the 25 years she’s travelled with me a bunch and then lately she stays home to watch the dogs and stuff like that.
“She’s been there shotgun through 25 years of this, and she’s always been gracious about taking a back seat to it.
“When you’re married to an artist — an artist who lives with his or her head up their ass thinking about, ‘Oh my God, the whole world has to know what I think and feel’ — I would imagine that must be irritating to live with. But she’s lived with it for a quarter century.”

He wrote: “What couldn’t he do? Quincy Jones, literally born when the limits on how big a black boy could dream were unfathomably high, taught us that the limit does not exist. His contributions to American culture were limitless.
“First black person nominated for an Oscar for best score. First black person nominated later twice in the same year.

“Father to some pretty incredibly talented children as well as godfather to musicians around the world. RIP QUINCY.
“This f**** me up. I wish I had been able to tell him how much he meant to me reading about him when I was a teenager in Virginia.
“Hearing stories from ppl like Makoto Ozone a Japanese jazz musician when I was in Tokyo about his mentorship. He was the model for how to live art.”

Freddie Prinze Jr: It’s not ‘hard’ to avoid attention

OHMYGOSSIP — Freddie Prinze Jr. has insisted it isn’t “hard” to avoid the limelight.
The 48-year-old actor – who has children Charlotte, 15, and 12-year-old Rocky with wife Sarah Michelle Gellar – admitted he and his spouse have tried to lead their lives as privately as possible “by choice” and have been able to “control” how much attention they’ve received during their 22-year marriage.
Freddie appeared on the ‘Oldish’ podcast, where co-host Randy Spelling noted: “Something that I’ve admired about your relationship is you both have seemed to stay out of the public.”
His guest replied: “That’s by choice, though. You can control it to a certain degree…
“I don’t know how deliberate [others] are in trying to avoid that BS. I know how easy it’s been for us because I don’t go anywhere. I don’t go to parties. People don’t see Sarah and I out and about at the popular places.
“We have our restaurants that we like, and they’re not super trendy in places where paparazzi hang out. So we’re good at avoiding it.”
The ‘She’s All That’ actor stressed he wasn’t “trying to s*** on anyone” but he and his wife felt avoiding such attention was “not that hard if you really” want to stay clear of it.
The couple have adopted tactics such as waiting for their more famous neighbours to go out before leaving their home.
He said: “There’s times where [paparazzi] wait at the bottom of our street, but there’s people that are way more famous than me on my street.
“So I’ll just make sure they leave first. They’ll go follow Schwarzenegger and leave me alone. You know what I mean?
“There’s no secret to it, and it wasn’t hard. We just don’t like that life. You know?”
Freddie also pointed out the ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ actress “grew up in New York” and “experienced everything before she was 21 years old, like nightclubs and all that stuff.”
By contrast, he added to co-host Brian Austin Green: “And I can count on one hand how many clubs I’ve been [to] my whole life. One was with you. They had live music though, it was cool.”

Sir Michael Caine: Bring back national service

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Michael Caine wants to bring back national service.
The 91-year-old actor – who was on active duty in the Korean War as part of his compulsory stint with the British army between 1952 and 1994 – thinks young people should have to serve their country for a period of time because it will teach them a lot and help them to “grow up”.
In an extract from his memoir ‘Don’t Look Back, You’ll Trip Over’ obtained by Sunday Times magazine, he declared: “I would bring back national service. I don’t mean young people should go to war — nothing like that. I’d make it six months rather than two years, like it used to be. But being 18 years old and serving your country, it teaches you a lot. You grow up.”
The ‘Italian Job’ star insisted his time with the Royal Fusiliers taught him some “invaluable” lessons and made him become a man.
He wrote: “It’s pretty hard to exaggerate the impact national service had on me. Look, I’m 91 and, 70 years on, I can still remember it. I was 18 and sent to Germany as part of the occupation force in Berlin first and then it was on to Korea. It turned me from boy into a man.
“I learnt that you have to be self-reliant but also put your trust in your mates. You’re learning how to be an individual and part of a group with a shared purpose; that’s invaluable.”
And Michael recalled being “bloody scared” when on active duty during the war.
He continued: “I was just an ordinary private soldier, one of 500 others. We had to get up every night and fight the Chinese army — the Chinese government had sent half a million troops to help North Korea. It was a bugger.
“I remember one night me and six other guys were out on patrol in the Samichon Valley, right on the line between North and South Korea. And we knew the enemy were close. We were all bloody scared of course.
“But we made it past them, then headed back. We all got bitten by the bleeding mosquitoes but that was better than being shot by the Chinese.”

“While not perfect, we’ve put in the work to make our marriage what it is today. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. (sic)”

She shared: “Of course, he was the composer on ‘The Color Purple’, which is how I met Quincy.

Moviegoers have a lot of power, says Matt Damon

OHMYGOSSIP — Matt Damon thinks moviegoers aren’t aware “of how much power they have”.
The 54-year-old actor and Ben Affleck, his childhood friend, have helped to finance the new drama movie, ‘Small Things Like These’, through their Artists Equity company, and Matt has suggested that it represents a sea change in the context of modern cinema.
The Hollywood star told ‘Extra’: “In the ’90s there would’ve been a number of films of this scale. There would’ve been a number of these every year, and they’ve been decreasing, obviously, over the years.
“The only way to remedy that is to make these films and to put them in theatres and for moviegoers to go support them. I think people might not be aware of how much power they have as moviegoers. If people go and see it, we can make more of them.”
Matt actually appears in the new movie alongside Cillian Murphy, and he relished working with his former ‘Oppenheimer’ co-star.
The actor also admitted that he had no hesitation about throwing his support behind the film, which is an adaptation of Claire Keegan’s novel of the same name.
Matt – who is one of the highest paid actors of all time – shared: “We were just getting Artist Equity off the ground, I asked [Cillian] if he had anything and he says, ‘I happen to have this really wonderful script…’. I’m like, ‘Oh, my God, this is exactly what we are looking for.’
“I read the script and immediately sent it to Ben … It was a very embarrassingly easy decision for us to finance this film. We all knew each other, and we know the quality of work these people do.”

The actor died in a car accident in November 2013, aged 40, and Paul’s younger brother, Cody Walker, has now revealed that the Hollywood star felt frustrated that the movie industry stopped him from spending more time with his daughter, Meadow.
Speaking to E! News, Cody explained: “That was his pride and joy, his baby girl. He loved her to death, he only wanted what’s best for her.”
According to Cody, Paul felt guilty that he wasn’t able to spend more time with his daughter, because he was so busy filming movies.
Cody shared: “He loved being a dad. He had a lot of guilt for not being able to always be there. That’s why Paul didn’t like the industry.”
Last year, Meadow claimed that she still receives signs from her dad.
The 26-year-old model – who starred in ‘Fast X’, the latest movie in the ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise – believes that she still has a connection with the movie star.
Meadow told E! News: “For me, it’s numbers, four and seven are my dad’s favourite numbers. And I swear whenever I’m doubting anything or whenever I’m in an argument with someone or anything, I start seeing four and seven everywhere. So I always know that it’s him.
“Even yesterday, I was having a moment and then the clock bells started ringing. And I was like, ‘OK, it’s all good, it’s gonna be OK.'”
Paul played the part of Brian O’Conner in the hit film franchise, and Meadow was thrilled to have played a part in ‘Fast X’, too.
She shared: “For me this is super exciting and he would be amazed that this is happening.”
