George Michael’s cousin ‘shocked’ after being contacted from beyond the grave

OHMYGOSSIP — George Michael has been contacting his cousin from beyond the grave.
The ‘Careless Whisper singer – who died on Christmas Day 2016 at the age of 53 as a result of heart and liver disease – had a “really good connection” with Chris Antoniou, 60, and his relative admitted he was “shocked” after hearing his late cousin call his name through the speakers of his car radio.
He is quoted by the Daily Star as saying: “I was shocked – it was totally amazing. We had a good connection. When he said, ‘I’m free’ I understood what he meant. He’d tell me he found fame very hard.”
Chris also recalled the moment he found out his cousin – who shot to fame as a member of Wham! alongside Andrew Ridgeley in the 1980s – had suddenly made it in music and noted that he still managed to retain some contact with him in those days.
He said: “One day my dad just said to me ‘George is on Top of the Pops’. “It all happened so quickly for him.
“He moved his family and changed his phone number, but I still had some contact with him.
“We had a good connection – he was always busy, but most of the time he was on his own. I think maybe he was looking down realising that I was unhappy.”
Following his days in Wham!, George went onto a hugely successful solo career but his former bandmate and schoolfriend Andrew, 61, explained that he still “wishes” they could be together again.
Speaking on the ‘Table Manners’ podcast, he said: “One misses any friend. I’ve been very fortunate, I haven’t lost many friends or many of my peers. Andy Leaver, he was in our first school band, he died tragically young and one or two others but no one with whom I had such a close bond with. Yeah, there are moments, of course, that you wish that you could still be doing things together. He’s missed by a lot of people in a variety of different ways.”

Halle Berry ‘never thought’ she would have such a long career in Hollywood

OHMYGOSSIP — Halle Berry “never thought” she would have such longevity.
The 58-year-old actress has been on the big screen for more than 30 years and even won an Oscar for her role as a struggling widdow in the 2001 film ‘Monster’s Ball ‘ but admitted that it has all come as a surprise to her, especially because she is still enjoying success at this stage in life.
She told E! News: “I never thought I’d be doing this as a career, and then at this age and stage still being able to work at the level that I work on. But I came along at the right time when women are having longevity. There was a time when you were 40, you were kind of done. So it’s so nice to be a part of Hollywood now.”
‘The Moonfall’ actress is now starring opposite Mark Wahlberg in ‘The Union’ – which sees a man recruited by his high school sweetheart on a high-stakes US intelligence mission – and explained that it was “fun” to get the chance to tell such a story because it made her think about her own younger days.
She said: “It was fun. I think many of us fantasize about that one that got away or what if I would have stayed with my high school sweetheart, what would my life be like?”
Halle – who has Nahla, 16, with Gabriel Aubry as well as son Maceo-Robert, 10, with Olivier Martinez – has been mindful of incorporating a healthy diet into her life since she was a teenager but also tries to defy ageing by making sure she gets enough rest.
She said: “I think being diagnosed with diabetes when I was 19 years old has kept me away from the number one aging substance which is sugar. I think it’s managing to get enough rest, prioritizing your sleep and your health and your wellbeing is important. And it’s hard to do that sometimes.”

Ryan Reynolds regrets ‘drifting apart’ from his father: ‘I wish I’d been there at the end…’

OHMYGOSSIP — Ryan Reynolds regrets “drifting apart” from his father.
The 47-year-old actor initially thought his dad James – who died in 2015 at the age of 74 – was “losing his mind” in his old age when it turned out to be Parkinson’s and almost a decade on from his death has admitted that he just has to “live with” the fact that they didn’t spend much time together towards the end.
He told People: “At the time I just thought, ‘My dad’s losing his mind.’ My father was really slipping down a rabbit hole where he was struggling to differentiate between reality and fiction.
“And subsequently everyone else in his life was losing the bedrock faith and trust that they had on his point of view. There would be conspiratorial webs that he would spin about ‘this is happening’ and that ‘these people might be after me’ or ‘this person is out to get me.’ And just stuff that was such a wild departure from the man that I grew up with and knew.
“I’m constantly putting pieces of the story together. I wasn’t really accepting my own responsibility. It was very easy for me to dine off the idea that my father and I do not see eye to eye on anything and that an actual relationship with him is impossible. And as I’m older now, I look back at it, and I think of it more as that was my unwillingness at the time to meet him where he was. I could have maybe been there with him toward the end, and I wasn’t. He and I just drifted apart, and that’s something I’ll live with forever.”
The ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ star did, however, send his father a letter in the months before his death and was able to get “closure” that way, even though he “wishes” he was at his dad’s side when he passed.
He said: “But there’s nuance, and there were many moments [of connection]. I sent my dad a letter about five months before he died, which I’m very grateful I did. The letter was basically a list of every amazing thing he ever did — every time he showed up or every time he had a catch with me outside after baseball practice.
” Every time he just was there. And if the man couldn’t express his emotions in a way that was dynamic, well, many people can’t. The guy was born in the ’40s. It’s okay. So I’m super grateful that I sent that letter. I know for a fact it meant the world to him. So I did get that closure, but I wasn’t with him when he passed away, and I do wish I was.”

Emily in Paris star Lucien Laviscount reveals ‘ideal’ romantic destination

OHMYGOSSIP — Lucien Laviscount thinks Paris is the “ideal” romantic destination.
The 32-year-old actor – who is currently thought to be romantically linked to ‘Whenever, Wherever’ Shakira – stars as Alfie alongside Lily Collins in the title role of Netflix hit ‘Emily in Paris’ and when asked whether he’d prefer London or Paris for a loved-up break, admitted that it would be the French capital every time.
He told Cosmopolitan UK’s Aug/Sept issue: “Paris, no question. The ideal weekend would be taking the train to Gare du Nord, leaving your things in the hotel and then hitting the streets. There’s a cafe called Café Charlot in Le Marais, which is beautiful. Take a walk down to the [River] Seine to watch the sunset, and the Eiffel Tower’s lights coming on. If you haven’t fallen in love by then, they’re just not meant for you.”
Meanwhile, the ‘This Time Next Year’ star revealed that there is indeed a group chat for himself and his co-stars on the from com series but admitted that it doesn’t used much, and that plans off set are more spur-of-the-moment than anything else.
He said: “If there is one, I’m not in it! No, I think there is one, but no one’s really on it that much. If we’re going to hang out one night, we all jump in and make a plan. And then no one will hear from anyone for a while. And then we’ll jump in again and say, ‘Where are we all going for dinner?’.”
Lucien also explained that while he may think he is “most like” his character on the show, his friends in real life would think he is probably a “bit more goofy” than his alter-ego.
He said: “My friends would probably say different, but I’d like to think I’m the most like Alfie. But I’m probably a little bit more goofy in real life!”

Henry Winkler reveals fighting, yelling and eating rules he imposes on six grandkids

OHMYGOSSIP — Henry Winkler slaps a “fighting” and “yelling” ban on his six grandchildren when they visit his home.
The ‘Happy Days’ actor, 78, opened up about trying to impose order on chaos at his house when the kids see him, saying he now has his “six and three-quarters grandchildren” including India, Ace, Lulu, Jules, Gus and Francis Joan – and another unnamed one on the way.
He told People about looking after the youngsters: “It is different, completely different than being a parent, but it is filled with the same emotion.
“We now have six and three-quarters grandchildren. Every one of them is different. You have to approach each one completely differently.

Father-of-three Henry – who has a reputation as Hollywood’s nicest guy – added about his food rule for the kids: “No matter what age they are, from 14 to 7, they have to clear their dish.”

“So I think I’ve made seven or eight, but only, mostly, with them.”
Henry also recently told how he had finished writing the next adventure for his children’s ‘Detective Duck’ series.

Kanye West’s Sunday Service gospel choir stripped of charity status

OHMYGOSSIP — Kanye West’s Sunday Service gospel choir has been stripped of its charity status.
The scandal-mired rapper, 47, who is facing lawsuits from former staff and was infamously dumped from a string of big-brand deals over his anti-Semitic outbursts, has now been hit with the ruling after failing to file tax returns for the group for three years.
According to the IRS website, the gospel group’s tax exemption status was revoked on 15 May “for not filing a Form 990-series return or notice for three consecutive years”, The US Sun has reported.
Sunday Service was formed by father-of-four Kanye in 2019, and it was initially given exemption from federal income tax as it was listed as what is known as a 501(c)(3) organisation.
They are classified as “religious, educational, charitable, scientific, literary, testing for public safety, fostering national or international amateur sports competition, or prevention of cruelty to children or animals organisations”.
As of 12 August, the revocation of the charity status was still current.
When Kanye first kicked off the Sunday Service, the gospel choir performed with the Grammy winner every weekend.
Their first public performance came at the Coachella festival in 2019, and they have collaborated with Pastor Joel Osteen who hosted Kanye at the Lakewood Church, Houston, in November that year.
Tickets for the event were free, but holders resold them online for up to $500.
Kanye has faced legal issues with some of his Sunday Service members and staff – who filed class action lawsuits against the rapper in 2020 for alleged mistreatment.
At the time, more than 500 performers and around 300 crew members claimed the performer-turned fashion designer had violated California work laws by underpaying them and denying them food and restroom breaks.
Among them was Sunday Service performer Michael Pearson who alleged he was paid a flat day rate of $250 and was not permitted breaks.
He also claimed performers stood all day or sat on the floor and walked home when transport was not provided.
It was reported in June Kanye settled with the hundreds of Sunday Service performers and staff for $1.35 million, but they were seeking more than $10.5 million in damages.

OHMYGOSSIP — Blake Lively loves fans who “want to see films about women” and the “multitudes” they hold.
The actress, 36, spoke out about female-themed movie amid the backlash surrounding her press tour for her latest flick ‘It Ends With Us’ – which has seen critics claim she has not been doing enough to focus on its heavy themes, especially when it comes to its portrayal of domestic violence.
Mother-of-four Blake – who has her children with her 47-year-old ‘Deadpool’ actor husband Ryan Reynolds – appeared to hit back at the criticism by resharing a clip on her Instagram Story from an interview with BBC News.
The clip saw Blake, who plays domestic violence victim Lily Bloom in the film, saying about the character: “She is not just a survivor, and she’s not just a victim, and while those are huge things to be, they are not her identity.”
She added in the chat Lily “is not defined by something someone else did to her or an event that happened to her, even if it’s multiple events” – and went on: “She defines herself, and I think that’s deeply empowering.. no-one else can define you. No experience can define you. You define you.”
She then wrote a long message over the footage, which began with her thanking “everyone” who “came out to show that people WANT to see films about women and the multitudes we hold”.
Blake added in her note: “‘It Ends With Us’ is the story of the female experience. All the highest highs and the lowest lows. And we are so proud of it.
“We have been in celebration of this film and of getting a message so important out there to the masses.
“Thank you all for embracing @itendswithusmovie with the same pain, love and joy we had sharing it with you all.”
She also added a slide to her Instagram that showed figures on intimate partner violence – along with a link for the hotline.

Zoë Kravitz admits it was ‘very hurtful’ moving away from mum when her parents split

OHMYGOSSIP — Zoë Kravitz has admitted it was “very hurtful” moving away from her mother to be with her father when the famous couple split.
‘The Batman’ actress, 35, made the confession in an interview in which she opened up about her decision to live with her rocker dad Lenny Kravitz, 60, after he broke up with her 56-year-old actress mother Lisa Bonet.
She told Esquire: “I think it was very hurtful that I moved away from her to be with my dad and my dad wasn’t even there.”
Zoë left her family home in Miami to relocate to New York City with Lenny, but he left soon after tour.
The actress added about her mum: “I just wish I had been able to appreciate what she was doing for me (at the time.)
“She was so focused on preserving my innocence. My creativity. Because she knew what the world is – that you don’t get that back.”
Lenny and Lisa first met backstage at a New Edition concert in Los Angeles in 1985 and they eloped in Las Vegas on 16 November 1987 – the ‘Angel Heart’ actress’ 20th birthday, before they had Zoë on 1 December 1988.
Zoë – who is the former couple’s only child – was aged two when her parents split in 1991, and they divorced in 1993.
The exes have stayed close, and Lenny told People in 2020 he feels their connection is “essential”.
He added: “(We) love each other just as much as before – it’s just a different situation.”
Zoë also told Esquire she felt as if her dad was getting taken advantage of at times when she was younger due to his friendly and tolerant nature.
She added: “I can smell (people’s suspicious motives) out pretty quickly. I had to when I was a kid because he didn’t.
“He’s really trusting, and it’s sweet, but I can tell exactly what someone wants.”

Martina Navratilova and her wife overjoyed after adopting two young boys

OHMYGOSSIP — Martina Navratilova and her wife have adopted two young boys.
The tennis icon, 67, who has been married to Russian model and ‘Real Housewives of Miami’ regular Julia Lemigova, 52, since 2014, has been considering adopting children with her partner since she beat two forms of cancer in 2023.
Her publicist has now announced the former athlete has achieved her parenting dream, saying about the couple’s joy over being mums to two children: “They are delighted and request that they are now given the space and privacy to welcome the new members of their family.”
Martina also issued a brief statement, saying: “We are over the moon, recognising the challenges and the rewards for everybody.”
Julia had one son who died more than 20 years ago, as well as two daughters from previous relationships.
Martina underwent treatment for early-stage breast cancer in 2010 and last year announced she was “cancer free” after being diagnosed with throat and breast cancers.
In December, her wife told Page Six the couple had adoption plans that were “on hold’” – but added they would not be “closing the door” on their parenting plans.
Martina recently made headlines for slamming an article that branded Taylor Swift a bad role for being childless and unmarried aged 34 as “misogynistic bulls***”.
The former tennis ace – who like her wife is a renowned ‘Swiftie’ – hit out in a post on X in which she reshared an extract from a now-controversial article published by Newsweek last week in which reporter John Mac Ghlionn called the performer “not a good role model” as she hasn’t married or settled with a family as she nears her mid-thirties.
Martina started her attack on the op-ed by reposting a message about the piece by Indian writer Kiran Mandral, 53, who slated the Newsweek article as “barf inducing” and “vomit worthy”.
She added about the piece: “A massive pile of misogynistic bull (three poo emojis.)
“This guy should be ashamed of himself and I can’t believe he writes for Newsweek…and they printed it. I mean… .”
John Mac Ghlionn wrote in his piece: “At 34, Swift remains unmarried and childless, a fact that some might argue is irrelevant to her status as a role model. But, I suggest, it’s crucial to consider what kind of example this sets for young girls.
“A role model, by definition, is someone worthy of imitation. While Swift’s musical talent and business acumen are certainly admirable, even laudable, we must ask if her personal life choices are ones we want our sisters and daughters to emulate.
“This might sound like pearl-clutching preaching, but it’s a concern rooted in sound reasoning.”
The piece was picked up by Taylor’s army of ‘Swiftie’ fans who shared it online with fierce attacks on John.

Rob Lowe got sober after he missed mum’s calls about his grandfather’s heart attack

OHMYGOSSIP — Rob Lowe got sober after he had to go to sleep instead of answering his mother’s call about his grandfather suffering a heart attack.
The 60-year-old ‘St Elmo’s Fire’ actor hasn’t had a drink in 34 years, and has now said his decision to give up booze wasn’t the result of a sudden revelation – but instead a process of self-reflection marked by a string of wake-up calls that led up to the shocking moment he missed his mum’s desperate calls about his grandad’s health crisis.
He told People: “Getting sober was an incremental decision. It’s baby steps until you’re ready. You can’t do it until you’re really ready.”
Before he entered rehab at the Sierra Tucson facility in 1990, Rob said he had a series of “baby steps” on the road to getting clean.
He said one of them came when he watched one his “heroes” Warren Beatty in the 1975 romantic comedy ‘Shampoo’.
Rob added: “It’s a great movie, but at the end, he’s a bon vivant, charming playboy left with nothing.
“It affected me tremendously and (was) the first glimmer of your conscience, your destiny, God, going, ‘Psst, pay attention to this.’”
Rob added his infamous sex tape of him with two young women was also a major moment in his life.
He said: “(That) definitely changed my life at the time, and, in hindsight, I realised it was another step that led me to recovery and reevaluating my life. “But the thing that really changed me was not being able to show up for my family and myself.”
Rob also said in 1990 when his grandfather had a heart attack he ignored his mother’s call about the crisis.
He added: “I remember like it was yesterday – my mom telling me (on my answering machine) to ‘Pick up, pick up’ because my grandpa had had a heart attack.
“I couldn’t deal with it in the state I was in, and I needed to go to sleep to wake up so I could deal with it.
“Who doesn’t keep a bottle of Cuervo Gold (tequila) by their bedside table?
“That was the final wake-up call. I’ve been sober ever since.”

He told his followers in an online announcement he needed his “body a second to rest and heal”, adding: “For my 30 plus year career, 100% of my blood, sweat and tears has gone into putting on the best performance and creating a memorable experience for my fans.

Usher’s announcement comes after he axed his Lovers and Friends festival hours before showtime.

“We’ve worked hard to create an amazing event for you, and we are just as disappointed as you are.”

Sofía Vergara tells ex-‘Modern Family’ co-star Ed O’Neill not to ‘die’ before show reunion

OHMYGOSSIP — Sofía Vergara has told her former ‘Modern Family’ co-star Ed O’Neill not to “die” before they get a chance to have a show reunion.
The 52-year-old actress became a household name playing Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in the ABC sitcom from 2009 to 2020 and has now said she would love to star in a comeback of the show.
She told Variety about the ongoing joke she has with her former onscreen husband Jay Pritchett – played by 78-year-old Ed – about a possible return to the show: “(I recently told him), ‘You look f****** old’. I always joke with him, ‘Ed, don’t die. Because if we do the sequel, it will take some time, and you’re the oldest of us. You can’t be dead!’”
Sofia added instead of a full series comeback for ‘Modern Family’ she would prefer if the cast got together for a “TV movie” version of the show – adding: “It’d be so much fun.”
Sofia last November got the show’s cast together for their first reunion since the series ended in 2020, with everyone but actor Ty Burrell, 56, turning up for the occasion.
She told People after the get-together: “It was very special. The day before I came from the Bahamas, and today I had this (reunion), so I’m exhausted, but it was so worth it.
“(It was) the first time we had all seen each other in almost four years… (it was) very exciting for all of us.”
Along with Sofia, stars Ed, Julie Bowen, Sarah Hyland, Eric Stonestreet, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ariel Winter, Rico Rodriguez, Nolan Gould and Aubrey Anderson-Emmons turned up – as well as showrunners Chris Lloyd and Steve Levitan.
Sofia went on about the reunion: “It’s amazing, because we’re always connected.
“Even though we haven’t seen each other in so long, it felt like we just left the set in 2020.”
