Matthew Perry ‘should be remembered for being hilariously funny’

OHMYGOSSIP — Marta Kauffman wants Matthew Perry to be remembered as a “funny” man.

“About two weeks before [he died] he and I were FaceTiming and he seemed really good.
“Two things come to mind [about how to celebrate him]: one of them is to donate to drug treatment centres – let’s fight the disease. And the second way is to watch ‘Friends’ and remember him not as a man who died like that but as a man who was hilariously funny and brought joy to everybody.”

Brian Cox: Cinema is in a very bad way

OHMYGOSSIP — Brian Cox believes cinema is “in a very bad way”.
The 76-year-old actor has hit out at the current state of the film industry, observing that it is “losing the plot”.
During an appearance at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, Brian told The Hollywood Reporter: “What’s happened is that television is doing what cinema used to do.
“I think cinema is in a very bad way. I think it’s lost its place because of, partly, the grandiose element between Marvel, DC and all of that. And I think it’s beginning to implode, actually. You’re kind of losing the plot.”
Brian also observed that casting processes have changed markedly over the years.
The ‘Succession’ star – who was born in Dundee in Scotland – said: “Now, they want every young actor or actress to make their own self-tapes.
“They’ve got to make it without actually meeting anybody, and sometimes they never even get the f****** result, because they get ignored. They spend three days making a self-date, which goes nowhere.”
Brian thinks it’s actually “disgusting” how young actors are treated.
He explained: “Now, young actors are in limbo and it’s disgusting, quite frankly, because it actually stops what an actor can do or who an actor is.”
Meanwhile, Brian previously claimed that Hollywood is “a very difficult place to live”.
The veteran actor – who has won numerous awards during his career – observed that Hollywood is an especially difficult environment for young women, claiming that it “exacerbates” all of the issues they already face.
Brian told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: “[Hollywood is] a very difficult place to live, and [it] is the worst place in the world to raise female children.
“There are so many pressures on young women already, and it just exacerbates them.”

The 54-year-old actor starred alongside Shannen – who died in July at the age of 53 following a long battle with cancer – as her on-screen twin in the hit 1990s drama series ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ and admitted that he was “hit hard” by the passing of his former co-star.
He told The Sunday Mirror newspaper: “It has made me think about my own mortality. I woke up on my 50th birthday and I realised that I’d already lived most of my life. Her passing hit me hard. We had an incredible experience working together… it was the day Shannen, Luke [Perry] and I were shot for the cover of Rolling Stone [in 1992] that I started to understand the impact the show was having.”
The former ‘Private Eyes’ star remembered Shannen as being “very open” about her health battles and commended the ‘Charmed’ star – who spoke candily about her illness through her ‘Let’s Be Clear’ podcast – for her determination to help others as he admitted he felt “very fortunate” to have been able to spend time with her in those last moments.
Jason – who has Ava, 17, and 15-year-old Dashiell with wife Naomi Lowde-Priestley – added: “She was very open about what was happening with her cancer and tried to use her platform to help other people. I always admired her tenacity and her toughness, so even though I knew she was sick, her actually passing away was a big surprise, and sad for all of us. She fought it for so long and seemed like she was able to manage it… until she wasn’t, unfortunately.
“Shannen was a force. And I feel very fortunate that in the last couple years, I got to spend quite a bit of time with her. I felt okay about her passing in so much as there was nothing left between us that was unsaid.”

JK Rowling struggled to call herself a ‘real writer’ even after Harry Potter was published

OHMYGOSSIP — JK Rowling struggled to call herself a “real writer” even after she had been published.
The 59-year-old author created the magical ‘Harry Potter’ franchise – which went on to become the best-selling book series of all time with more than 600 million copies sold wordwide – but admitted that because she had wanted to be a published writer so badly, she didn’t want to think of herself as such even after the publication because she didn’t want to “jinx” herself.
Asked when she realised it was a hit, she told The Sunday Times: “It’s all a bit of a blur, to be honest. Winning the Smarties Book Prize (in 1997) was a massive moment, and then I got a record advance from America and everything went crazy.
“I was overjoyed [when I made the bestsellers list] because it felt like something that happened to real writers.
“I can’t overstate how timid I was about calling myself a writer. Even after I was published I hesitated to say it out loud because I’d wanted it for so long and didn’t want to jinx myself.”
Following the publication of ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ in 1997, ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets’ followed the year after and then ‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’ came in 1999, by which time Rowling had sold the film rights to Warner Bros for a reported £1 million.
A further four books followed and after the release of eight films – which starred Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint – as well as the creation of a theme park, a studio tour and a West End play, the whole franchise is thought to be worth $25 billion.
Rowling – who also writes under the pseudonym of Robert Galbraith – explained that she knew what she wanted to do with the long-running story of the boy wizard and his time at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry by the time she had finished the first instalment but had made sure she could still “enjoy” putting pen to paper in the near-two decades that followed.
She said: “By the end of the first book I knew how the seventh would end and had worked out a lot of the details of the world, but I left enough leeway to enjoy creating things as I went. Although they’re such different genres, I’ve applied a lot of what I learnt about world-building on Potter to the Strike series. In my work, I like to know exactly where I’m going. In my life, not so much.”

Haley Joel Osment reflects on early fame: ‘I had to think really hard about whether I wanted it…’

The 36-year-old actor – became the second-youngest performer ever to receive an Academy nomination for a supporting role for his role in the 1999 thriller opposite Bruce Willis before briefly being considered for the title role in the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise – wound down his career for a period of time in his teens so he could go to college and has had to make some “really hard” decisions about what he wants in life.
He told E! News: “My parents used to say when I first started out in this industry, ‘If it’s ever not fun, you can quit tomorrow. And when I got to be college age, I got to go off and study theatre and really think hard about whether I wanted to do this as my career in life. The answer has always been yes at all these junctures. It’s still a job that I really enjoy, despite all the uncertainty and the difficulty of being able to plan your life three to six months out.
The ‘Blink Twice’ star admitted that his early fame took place “those were pretty tense years in terms of how celebrity was in Los Angeles” and was “very happy to not be making [his] home” in the Californian city at that time as he reflected on the “shift” to social media these days.
He said: “It’s an interesting shift in dynamics. At this point I’m comfortable with it,” Osment said. And “in this very large media environment, it’s the way to promote your projects and help people keep up to date on what you’re doing within the balance of reasonable privacy. I resisted it for so long and now it’s like, ‘Hey, it’s fun to do some posts.
“When I came up in this industry, the Internet was around but it wasn’t so omnipresent that it is today. “So for younger actors today, I’m always really impressed with them being able to manage the TikTok-Instagram-social media landscape, because that’s not something I ever really had to deal with at that age.”

Jordan Stephens reveals ‘pivotal’ moment forced him to confront struggles that came with fame

OHMYGOSSIP — Jordan Stephens had to make some “major changes” in his life after a breakup.
The 32-year-old musician became known as half of Rizzle Kicks in the late 2000s and admitted that while he had been unfaithful in relationships himself, there was a “pivotal” moment in one of them that served as the catalyst for him to make “some major changes” amid his struggles with fame.
He told The Observer: “Yes, I had been unfaithful to girlfriends in the past, I’d also been cheated on. I’d had three, four other relationships before, but I’d never stopped afterwards. ‘Oh, we’ve broken up? I’ll go on tour, sleep with whoever, do a bunch of cocaine, or drink loads. I’d numb myself to get through it, then make the same mistakes.
“This one, however, was a pivotal point for me. I was in a relationship, I f***** it up, then everything crumbled. I was confronted by my own behaviour, and by grief, and was forced to make some major changes. That single moment changed my life’s trajectory.”
The ‘Down With The Trumpets’ hitmaker noted that in those early days of fame he “didn’t know” anything and that he had such a “shallow perception” of himself that he “disintergtaed” when his girlfriend called time on their relationship.
He told The Observer: “I was taking 400mg then, so I’m firing on all cylinders: a rap album, a punk album; hot yoga, new ventures, hitting the gym… and I’m driving myself into debt. I was on one. And I was finger-pointy, but I didn’t know s***, bro. The perception I had of myself was so shallow and fragile. All it took was a woman to bin me off and that was it. My whole sense of self disintegrated.
“It was a f****** whirlwind. There’s a lot I don’t remember, and I feel totally detached from certain things that happened. But I just think, right now, it’s not important. All you need to know is that I had time on my hands, and some cash in the bank.”

She said on her and Peter’s ‘The Therapy Crouch’ podcast, in which they reveal intimate details of their lives together: “My teeth used to be two millimetres sticking out – and now they’re four millimetres sticking out.
“I’ve ended up having a brace on for six months and coming out with goofier teeth and a thinner palate, which is outrageous.
“The cross bite hasn’t changed. In fact, it’s got worse. So I was like to the dentist, ‘What the hell is going on here?’
“I’m that comedian with all the teeth. The Scouse one. With the feather duster. Ken Dodd.”
But Abbey said about her dentist telling her the problem will resolved itself: “The dentist said to me, ‘The teeth move in a certain way. And then after that, they come back in’.”
Comedian Sir Ken Dodd – famed for his wonky teeth and tickling stick – died aged 90 in 2018, and said he got his distinctive protruding gnashers from a

Two doctors charged in connection with Matthew Perry’s drugs death ‘still allowed to legally prescribe medication’

OHMYGOSSIP — Two doctors charged in connection with Matthew Perry’s drugs death are reportedly still allowed to legally prescribe medication.
Medics Mark Chavez, 54, and Salvador Plasencia, 42, are facing charges over their alleged roles in distributing ketamine to ‘Friends’ actor Matthew, who died on 28 October, 2023, aged 54 from the “acute effects” of the anaesthetic.
But TMZ has reported that despite the charges, the Medical Board of California investigated both doctors and has found no reason to revoke their licenses.
The board said in a statement to the outlet: “Both (their) licenses are current and active and the Board has not imposed any restrictions on them.”
Chavez and Plasencia’s licenses are listed on the Medical Board of California’s website without any restrictions.
Chavez’s is classified as “renewed and current” with an expiration date of 30 June 30, 2026 – while Plasencia’s has the same status with an expiration date of 31 October.
The US Department of Justice announced Thursday (15.08.24) Plasencia is charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine plus seven counts of distribution of ketamine and two counts of altering and falsifying documents or records related to the federal investigation.
Chavez agreed to plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine – confirming in his plea agreement he sold ketamine to Plasencia off-market for Matthew to use.
The actor is thought to have paid the pair upward of $55,000 in cash in the weeks leading up to his sudden death.
US Attorney Martin Estrada last week said about the duo: “These defendants cared more about profiting off of Mr Perry than caring for his well-being.
“Matthew Perry’s journey began with unscrupulous doctors who abused their position of trust because they saw him as a payday, to street dealers who gave him ketamine in unmarked vials.”
Three other people have been charged over Matthew’s death in the hot tub of his LA mansion, including his live-in personal assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, 59, who has admitted regularly injecting the actor with ketamine despite having no medical training.
Jasveen Sangha, 41, known as the ‘Ketamine Queen’, and Eric Fleming, 54 have also been charged with supplying Matthew with ketamine.
