Queen Elizabeth ‘certainly not quite mad’ before her death, says royal expert

OHMYGOSSIP — Queen Elizabeth was “certainly not quite mad” before her death, a royal expert has insisted.
Royal biographer Margaret Holder made the remark in the wake of the row that has erupted after ‘Lord of the Rings’ actor Sir McKellen, 85, made a string of digs at the Royal Family – including branding Prince Harry dim and Queen Elizabeth “quite mad” and “rude”.
She told the Daily Express as calls grow for the star to hand back his knighthood: “Her Majesty the Queen was certainly not ‘quite mad’.
“Most people from staff to politicians say she was mentally sharp to the end of her life.
“As for her being ‘rude’ when Sir Ian McKellen received his medal, the Queen usually had to move on to other people waiting for their medals, working a routine which made sure everyone being decorated had a few moments with her.
“She tried to treat celebrities and ordinary people the same way and most people treasured that time with her.”
Royal biographer Christopher Wilson added about Sir Ian’s comments: “If the Queen was rude to him, which I doubt, I expect he imagined it.
“There are almost no recorded instances of her being rude to anybody. He probably asked for it.
“Sir Ian may be a good actor but he always has to be the centre of attention. And, sadly for him, on that occasion the Queen was infinitely more important than a lucky thespian with a malicious tongue.”
Sir Ian was knighted for services to the performing arts in 1991 and Queen Elizabeth II appointed him Companion of Honour for his services to drama and equality in 2008.
He said about the Queen: “I’m sure she was quite mad at the end. And on the few occasions I met her she was quite rude.
“When I received a medal for acting, she said, ‘You’ve been doing this for an awfully long time’.
“I said, ‘Well, not as long as you’. I got a royal smile for that, but then she said, ‘Does anyone still actually go to the theatre?’
“That’s bloody rude when you’re giving someone a medal for acting.
“It meant, ‘Does anyone care a f*** about you because I don’t. Now off you go!’”
Sir Ian added about the Queen’s late husband Prince Philip he was “deeply, deeply eccentric” possibly “deeply unhappy”.
He said: “Same with the present king. He sort of survives, but he is clearly damaged.
“As for (Prince) Harry, he’s probably not bright enough or doesn’t have the right friends to really help himself.”

Elle Macpherson doesn’t believe her cancer will return

OHMYGOSSIP — Elle Macpherson doesn’t believe her cancer will return.
The supermodel, 60, has caused a backlash from medics and cancer experts after she recently revealed she had been diagnosed with the disease seven years ago – but opted for alterative remedies after having a lumpectomy at the start of her treatment.
She has now said in a detailed interview on her techniques on ‘60 Minutes Australia’ about how she believes her disease won’t recur and how she is in a state of “utter wellness”: “I don’t anticipate any and I have no indication that there would be. Zero.
“The body has the infinite capacity to heal and I am in utter wellness… fear is something that can really make you ill. So I’m not interested in that.
“I think it’s a wise way to live life, to focus on well-being.”
Elle would not be drawn during her TV chat on answering whether she felt she had “cured” her cancer.
Instead she responded: “The word ‘cure’ is a very interesting word… no, I healed through breast cancer.
“I had a very formidable team that helped me through it. So now I would, you know I’m clinically in remission – that’s words that you know most doctors would say.”
Elle admitted there is a “time and place” for traditional, Western medicine but said she chose to adopt a “more natural lifestyle” because that’s “what works” for her.
After reports she ignored pleas from dozens of doctors to take conventional cancer treatments, she went on: “Listen, I got a lot of advice. I spoke to 32 doctors along the way. It wasn’t an easy decision, but it was a decision that I felt was right for me.
“And I have come to the understanding that there are no right or wrong decisions or choices in how people choose to heal.
“This was the decision that not only felt right for me but also worked for me.”
Elle went on to explain that she does get regular medical check ups, including scans and blood tests.
She had a lumpectomy, which is a surgery to remove cancer from the breast while leaving most of the tissue in place, before she was urged to have a mastectomy with radiation, chemotherapy and hormone therapy.
Elle instead underwent eight months of intense therapy with doctors in Phoenix, Arizona, using a team of holistic medicine specialists.

Dick Van Dyke ‘looking for work’ as he heads for 99th birthday

OHMYGOSSIP — Dick Van Dyke has said he is still “looking for work” as he approaches his 99th birthday.
The ‘Mary Poppins’ actor, who is set to mark the milestone on 13 December, made the gag after he won an award for outstanding variety special at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmy Awards for his 2023 birthday special ‘Dick Van Dyke 98 Years of Magic’.
He told reporters after the event he wanted to be remembered “For laughter”, adding about how he isn’t thinking of retirement: “I hope for making people laugh for 75 years.”
The actor continued to reflect on his career by saying: “I’ve been in the business 75 years. I can’t believe that I’m still here and performing.
“I’m looking for work if anybody has.”
Dick went on about the early days of his career: “You have to stick with it. You’re gonna go through hard times and a lot of auditions… but you have to stay with it.
“Be patient if you’ve got the confidence in yourself, and it’s very important to believe that you can do it.”
In June, Dick stunned fans by performing with his Dick Van Dyke and the Vantastix band in Los Angeles.
The long-running singing quartet also featured his 52-year-old second wife Arlene Silver, who he married in 2012.
They put on the show after Dick made history earlier that month by becoming the oldest Daytime Emmy Award winner.
He took home the trophy for best guest performer in a daytime drama series for his role as Timothy Robicheaux on US soap ‘Days of Our Lives’.
Dick said at the time going the gym every week is his “secret weapon” to staying youthful.
He added: “I think I’m the last of my generation, really. I’m 98. I have almost all my marbles… I can’t remember what I had for breakfast.”

James Gandolfini ‘drunkenly vowed to quit Sopranos every other day’

OHMYGOSSIP — James Gandolfini drunkenly vowed “every other day” to quit ‘The Sopranos’.
The actor played mob boss Tony Soprano in the smash HBO mafia drama from 1999 to 2007 alongside stars including Edie Falco, 61, before he was killed by a heart attack aged 51 in 2013 after years of drug and alcohol issues that often caused havoc with the making of the show, created by 79-year-old David Chase.
His co-star Steven Van Zandt, 73, who played Tony’s ‘consiglieri’ Silvio Dante on the HBO hit, has now opened up about how James struggled making the series.
He says on new documentary ‘Wise Guy: David Chase and The Sopranos’: “Every other day, we would go to a bar. We would have the exact same conversation.
“We would get drunk. He’d say, ‘I’m done. I’m not going back’.
“I would say, ‘Okay. You’ve got a hundred people depending on you here’. “He’s like, ‘Yeah, yeah, okay’. He would come back. But a few times, he would disappear for a few days. You know, it just got to him.”
‘Wise Guy’ also includes interviews with ‘Sopranos’ creator David, who recently said James left him mesmerised with his “otherworldly” eyes.
He told a CBS News retrospective on the creation of the landmark show in honour of its 25thanniversary this year: “He’s incredible. Well, the whole thing’s about his face and about his eyes, actually. “There’s something about his eyes that – it was otherworldly.”
David also said the humour in the show was so prevalent he could “never” figure out whether it was a comedy.
He added: “I guess it’s like life. I don’t know.”
David previously told People he was glad the show’s fanbase was still going strong, saying it left him with a “tremendous sense of gratitude”.
He added: “I can’t remember this happening with any other television show ever.”
David also said about James’ performance: “Look at the show, and there you see it. It’s a cliché to call that stuff magic, but he was totally inhabiting that fictional creature.
“It’s the best thing I’ve ever done. It’s probably the best thing I ever will do.”

Nicole Kidman asked for Naomi Watts’ permission to star alongside Liev Schreiber

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicole Kidman asked Naomi Watts for permission to star alongside Liev Schreiber in ‘The Perfect Couple’.
The Oscar-winning actress appears alongside Liev, 56, in the new drama miniseries – but Nicole asked Naomi, Liev’s former partner, for her permission before she committed herself to the project.
Naomi, 55 – who was in a relationship with the actor between 2005 and 2016 – told Entertainment Weekly: “We always check in, we’re besties. That was very kind of her to do that.”
Nicole and Liev play a married couple in the new Netflix series.
Naomi hasn’t actually had the chance to watch the show yet, but she’s determined to do so.
The actress shared: “I’m desperate to [watch] because everyone is raving about it. It just launched, what, two days ago.
“I’m very much looking forward to it. I have seen the trailer. It looks fantastic.”
Meanwhile, Nicole recently revealed that she relished the experience of working with Liev on the series.
Speaking about their on-screen romance, Nicole – who is married to music star Keith Urban – told ‘Extra’: “There was great depth and heat in this relationship and it had gone through a lot over time, and how do you make it through all of those things if you do not share some sort of passion and joint narrative?”
Nicole observed that the series explores a fascinating subject.
The actress also insisted that it’s wrong to “meddle” in other people’s relationships.
The Hollywood star – who was previously married to actor Tom Cruise – said: “You never know why people stay together … I always say that about couples. That is why you don’t meddle in people’s relationships, because you actually never know what they are really doing and how they get through.”

The 76-year-old Hollywood star – who has earned an Academy Award, two Primetime Emmy Awards, and two Golden Globe Awards during her dazzling career – has declared that the reboot of ‘Matlock’ is her “last dance” after she gave it her all and found it “exhausting”.
She told The New York Times: “Everything I’ve prayed for, worked for, clawed my way up for, I am suddenly able to be asked to use all of it.
“And it’s exhausting.
“This is my last dance.”
The ‘Misery’ star had intended to call it quits before the reboot was offered to her after a difficult experience filming.
Fans can catch Kathy’s last TV performance when ‘Matlock’ premieres on CBS on September 22.

She admitted at the time: “I haven’t had a chance to see it. I’ve been learning lines for this.”

Bruce Springsteen’s wife Patti Scialfa battling cancer in secret

OHMYGOSSIP — Bruce Springsteen’s wife Patti Scialfa has been battling cancer in secret.
The 71-year-old songwriter/guitarist – who plays in her husband E Street Band – was diagnosed with a form of blood cancer called multiple myeloma back in 2018 and she stepped back from touring as she faced the health crisis in private.
She revealed her cancer battle in new documentary ‘Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band,’ which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in Canada on Sunday night (08.09.24). Speaking about her decision to scale back her stage commitments, Patti explained: “I’ve been performing with this band for 40 years. With those first performances, it felt so good to be back onstage.
“Touring has become a challenge for me. In 2018, well, Bruce and I were doing a play on Broadway. I was diagnosed with early stage multiple myeloma.”
She went on to reveal she tries to come to a show every so often but she’s no longer a regular on stage.
Patti added: “This affects my immune system so I just have to be careful what I choose to do and where I choose to go. Every once in a while, I come to a show or two and I can sing a few songs onstage, and that’s been a treat. That’s the new normal for me right now, and I’m OK with that.”
The documentary marks the first time Patti has spoken publicly about her cancer diagnosis.
Her husband Bruce has also faced a series of health crisis during the last few years of touring. He was struck down with peptic ulcer disease which forced him to take a six-month break from work because it affected his singing.
Speaking earlier this year on Sirius XM’s E Street Radio, he explained, “You sing with your diaphragm. You know, my diaphragm was hurting so badly that when I went to make the effort to sing, it was killing me, so I literally couldn’t sing at all, you know?
“And that lasted for two, three months, along with just a myriad of other painful problems.”

Salma Hayek impressed by Angelina Jolie’s ‘professional’ sons

OHMYGOSSIP — Salma Hayek was impressed by Angelina Jolie’s “serious” and “professional” sons Maddox and Pax on the set of new movie ‘Without Blood’.
Angelina wrote and directed the movie and her boys Maddox, 23, and Pax, 20, landed jobs in the assistant director department serving as a liaison between the director and the other departments – and the movie’s star Salma was happy to work alongside the boys on set because they were so dedicated to their jobs.
She told PEOPLE: “They work hard. [Angelina was] very professional with them … She’s demanding. They got the respect of the crew, and they were good with the crew, and they were very in their place. They were not treating me like they treat me outside of there. … They work hard. They are very serious about what they do.”
Salma went on to add: “It is kind of funny, I was teasing them at the beginning, but then I had to say, ‘No. I have to separate and just treat them like professionals because it’s disrespectful’.”
Angelina’s sons also worked in the AD department on the set of her movie ‘Maria’ – which was directed by Pablo Larraín – and she admitted the work is good for them.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: “They’ve done that quite a few times, and I think that’s good for them. Pax tends to do stills and he gets brought in, and Pablo was wonderful and recognised that he was good at it”.
The actress was also grateful to have her sons around to support her because playing opera start Maria Callas was so emotionally exhausting.
She added: “It really meant a lot that my boys were with me on ‘Maria’. When I would have really heavy times, they would come over and just give me a hug or a cup of tea.
“That was probably one of the more intense things was that – usually when I’m expressing that much pain, it’s not in front of my children. You really try to hide from your children how much pain and sadness you carry.
“And so for them to be with you when you’re expressing it at such a level, I think it was the first time they ever heard me cry like that. That’s usually for the shower.”

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, embracing ‘chapter of joy’

OHMYGOSSIP — Meghan, Duchess of Sussex is going through a “chapter of joy” in her life.
The 43-year-old former actress – who has children Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three, with husband Prince Harry – is determined to be grateful for “all aspects” of her life and wants to enjoy all her experiences.
Meghan was a surprise guest at an event for Oprah Winfrey’s book club on Saturday (07.09.24) night and MailOnline reports she told guests assembled at the Godmothers bookstore in Summerland, California: “I’m looking at this time as my chapter of joy. The more you are able to look at your life and really, truly recognise and be able to be grateful for your life – you have to be grateful for all aspects of it.
“My intentionality is to enjoy this chapter and be able to love through every piece of this as best we can.”
The event was also attended by actor Marco Leone, astrology and psychology expert Dr Jennifer Freed, and author, teacher and psychic medium Laura Lynne Jackson, with the latter hailing the duchess as one of the evening’s “light-filled speakers”.
Godmothers, which is co-owned by literary agent Jennifer Rudolph Walsh, is promoting celebrity books including Meghan’s children’s tale ‘The Bench’ and Prince Harry’s ‘Spare’ memoir, with the autobiography found at the front of the shop as part of its ‘Hometown Heroes’ shelf.
He is being billed as belonging to the community despite spending most of his life being raised in Britain before he quit the country with Meghan for a new life in the US in January 2020.
Meghan and Oprah, 70, have been friends for years, with the chat show host one of the guests at the duchess’ wedding to Harry in May 2018.
Her and Harry’s $14 million Montecito mansion is close to Oprah’s home, and in 2021, the former ‘Suits’ star and her husband famously sat down with the broadcaster for an 85-miniute interview.

Mariah Carey had ‘rough couple of weeks’ following double family death tragedy

OHMYGOSSIP — Mariah Carey has had a “rough couple of weeks” since the deaths of her mother and sister.
The 55-year-old singer announced last month her mom Patricia and sibling Alison had passed away on the same day and the ‘Fantasy’ hitmaker has now spoken out for the first time since the double loss to thank fans for their supportive messages.
Mariah shared a video on Instagram of her rehearsing 2005 song ‘It’s Like That’ ahead of her upcoming concerts in China and Brazil.
She said in the video: “We’ll see you soon, China.”
And in the caption, she wrote: “Back at work. It’s been a couple of rough weeks, but I appreciate everyone’s love and support so much and I can’t wait to see my fans in China + Brazil. Love you! [three heart emojis].”
The ‘Hero’ singer previously said she was “heartbroken” following the death of her 87-year-old mother and admitted Alison’s passing had made the situation even more “tragic”.
She told People magazine: “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day. I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed.
“I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”
Patricia – who divorced the late Alfred Roy Carey in 1973 – was an opera singer and vocal coach before giving birth to her first child, whilst Alison endured some personal struggles including homelessness throughout her life and has been estranged from her superstar sibling for a number of years.
Alison had been in hospice care prior to her death and had been hoping to reconcile with her sister before the end came.
Her friend David Baker told DailyMail.com: “I know it was her dying wish if she could’ve at least had a conversation with Mariah … ”
Meanwhile, Mariah has previously opened up about the complicated relationship she had with her mother and described it all as a “rainbow of emotions” in her memoir.
Writing in her 2020 tome ‘The Meaning of Mariah Carey’, she said: “Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother has been full of contradictions and competing realities. It’s never been only black and white — it’s been a whole rainbow of emotions. Our relationship is a prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration and disappointment.
“A complicated love tethers my heart to my mother’s.”

Noel Gallagher’s photo to go on display at National Portrait Gallery

OHMYGOSSIP — Noel Gallagher is “thrilled and honoured” to have his picture going on display at the National Portrait Gallery.
The Oasis rocker is delighted that a photo of a “grumpy middle-aged man” will be on display for the first time as part of the London gallery’s ‘Legends’ exhibition, which is due to open on 29 November.
When the exhibition ends on 2 March, 2025, the black-and-white photograph – which was taken by Zoe Law – will be added to the gallery’s permanent collection.
Noel, 57, said in a statement: ‘I am thrilled and honoured to have my portrait added to the National Portrait Gallery’s permanent collection.
“The thought of the portrait of a grumpy middle-aged man, who frankly hates having his picture taken, being permanently displayed for future generations to marvel at is very special.”
The photographer said in her own statement: “It is the greatest honour that my portrait of the legend Noel Gallagher has been acquired by the National Portrait Gallery – a lasting legacy that all portrait photographers and artists dream of.”
The ‘Legends’ exhibition will also feature pictures of ‘Lord of the Rings’ actor Orlando Bloom, late England footballing legend Sir Bobby Charlton, and a never-before-seen photo of ‘Sex and the City’ actress Kim Cattrall.
Sabina Jaskot-Gill, senior curator of photographs at the gallery, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have recently acquired Zoe Law’s portrait of Noel Gallagher for the National Portrait Gallery’s photographs collection.
“I am really looking forward to seeing more of her Legends exhibited across our studio gallery and spotlight space in what promises to be an exciting and innovative display.
“I hope that these striking monochromatic portraits – which celebrate the diversity of British cultural life – help inspire the next generation of photographers and visitors to the National Portrait Gallery.”

King Charles looking forward to ‘second chapter of his reign’

OHMYGOSSIP — King Charles reportedly feels like he is “back in business” and is looking forward to the “second chapter of his reign”.
The 75-year-old monarch’s time on the throne so far has been blighted by health troubles after he was struck down with an undisclosed form of cancer earlier this year and forced to take a step back from public life while undergoing treatment but he has since been getting back to work and is now said to be feeling much more positive about the future.
A source told The Mirror newspaper: “There has been a lot going on, but the King has always been upbeat. Not once has he allowed himself to question the future – he’s dealt with everything head on.
“Now he is back in business. There is a spring in his step and a renewed vigour with it too. Everything is looking positive, which is welcome.’
“The King very much feels this is the second chapter of his reign and he is very positive about the future.”
As well as facing his own health struggle over the last year, Charles was dealt a further blow when his daughter-in-law Catherine, Princess of Wales was also diagnosed with cancer shortly after his own came to light. She also stepped away from public duties while undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
Charles has been getting back to work recently and undertaking more public engagements while he’s also due to head Down Under for a tour of Australia and Samoa alongside Queen Camilla in the autumn.
The visit will mark their first major overseas trip since news of Charles’ cancer was broken.
Charles stayed away from public duties for around three months after he was diagnosed with cancer in January with Camilla taking on much of his workload.
He returned to work in April with a visit to a cancer centre in London where he met with fellow patients, and insiders had said “down time” will be incorporated into the Down Under trip to make sure Charles does not work too hard.

Adam Goldberg turned down Friends role because he was a ‘snob’

OHMYGOSSIP — Adam Goldberg initially turned down a role in ‘Friends’ because he was a “snob” and he “rooting to hate” the show.
The 53-year-old actor appeared in three episodes of the hit sitcom back in 1996 playing Chandler’s unhinged roommate Eddie but he’s revealed he was actually reluctant to take on the job because he wasn’t a fan of TV comedies and he also wanted to hate ‘Friends’ because his ex-girlfriend had appeared in the pilot episode.
Adam told The Independent newspaper: “[‘Friends’] wasn’t super notable to me at the time, because I was a snob …
“I remember very specifically getting the call from my agent and them saying they were offering me this part, and that it started maybe two days later – everything’s always very fast in that world because you’re shooting an episode a week.
“And I was like, ‘No way. I’m not doing that show’. And my agent was like, ‘Yes, you are’. I was sort of bound up in all these ideas of what I was supposed to be doing, and also whatever weird personal baggage I was bringing to the situation.
“Like, my ex-girlfriend at the time, the love of my life back then, she had a guest role on the pilot episode. So I remember really rooting to hate it. These are the sorts of things that affect your decision!”
However, Adam was eventually persuaded to take the role and he ended up having a good time. He explained: “I said OK. And I went and did it and it ended up being much more fun than I had anticipated.”
The guest role propelled him to a new level of fame and Adam now regrets not extending his character’s time on the show.
Adam added: “I was like, jeez, if I’m gonna get this harassed, and be known for only having done ‘Friends’, at least I should be doing more episodes. Like, I should have another arc on the show. I remember my agent calling at the time, but it obviously never happened.
“I thought they were setting something up with Lisa’s [Lisa Kudrow] character, that’s what it felt like. That would have been really funny if [Lisa’s character] Phoebe and [Adam’s character] Eddie got together.”

Sir Elton John’s sons worry about his mortality

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Elton John’s sons “worry” about his mortality.
The 77-year-old singer – who has Zachary, 13, and Elijah, 11, with husband David Furnish – admitted his kids are concerned about his advancing years and they all wish he could be around “forever”.
In his new documentary ‘Elton John: Never Too Late’, the ‘Rocket Man’ singer said: “They think about my mortality. They worry about my mortality.
“Not so much David, but me.
“[They] love their daddy, so they want me to be around forever, [and] I would love to be around forever.”
Elton – who retired from touring after his ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ concert series ended in July 2023 – admitted he “doesn’t think” he’ll be around for some of the significant milestones in his sons’ lives so is determined to spend as much time with them now as he can.
He said: “I want to see them have children and get married. I don’t think I’m going to be around for that. Who knows? You never know.
“So that’s why I want to use the best time — the best of my time — while I’m around.
“Time together is so wonderful and so precious.”
Elton previously admitted it had taken him some time to “adjust” to life without touring.
He told ‘Extra’: “After you run around the world nonstop for practically your whole life, it did take a while [to adjust,] but we’re settling in now.”
But the ‘Tiny Dancer’ singer isn’t slowing down as he’s got a number of work projects in the pipeline, though he is enjoying being around his 61-year-old husband and their sons more.
He added: “We’re doing lots of creative things — musicals and stuff like that. I still have my finger on the pulse, running around. We’re spending more time with our kids.”
The ‘Your Song’ hitmaker completed his 330-date tour in Sweden last July and told the audience that he may do “something else” in the to come but for the time being just wanted to “appreciate” time with his family.
He said: “I’ve had the most wonderful career, beyond belief.
“Fifty-two years of pure joy playing music. How lucky am I to play music?
“You know how much I love to play live. It’s been my lifeblood to play for you guys.
“You’ve been absolutely magnificent. I will never be touring again, but I may do something in the future — a one-off thing — but that’s miles away.
“I want to appreciate my family, my sons, my husband, everything. I’ve earned it.”
