Gemma Arterton is ‘too picky’ with her roles

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Arterton barely works because she is “too picky”.
The 38-year-old actress admitted she made some wrong choices in the early days of her career after ignoring her intuition, but now she’ll only pursue projects she knows are “right”.
She told Britain’s OK! magazine: “I feel as though I made choices when I was younger that weren’t right for me, that I knew intuitively weren’t right for me, but I did those things because that’s what you do.”
Asked if she listens to herself now, she said: “Yes. To the point where I never work any more because I’m just too picky.
“But when I know that something is right for me, I’ll go for it.”
Meanwhile, Gemma – who is married to fellow actor Rory Keenan –was left upset when she returned to work after giving birth to her son because she looks so different in character in 1960s comedy drama ‘Funny Women’ that her little boy didn’t recognise her.
She said: “It was my first job and he was 10 months old. I dye my hair blonde in this season and I brought my family up to Liverpool, where we shoot the show.
“I know it sounds ridiculous but I was convinced he didn’t recognise me. He’d come on set and see me for an hour and I’d be dressed up as Sophie.
“I just don’t look like myself when I’m playing Sophie, with the costumes and the hair and make-up, and I was convinced he didn’t know I was his mum. I found it quite hard…
“It was hard not to be with him [during filming] but it was OK. He’s forgiven me – he recognises me now.”

Francis Ford Coppola chose London for his next film for heartbreaking reason

OHMYGOSSIP — Francis Ford Coppola wants to make a film in London because he doesn’t associate the city with his late wife.
The 85-year-old director’s beloved spouse Eleanor passed away in April and for his next project – which will be much more low-budget than his upcoming release ‘Megalopolis’ – the filmmaker is keen to work in the UK capital as he doesn’t have any reminders of his wife there because they never visited together.
Asked what’s next, he told Empire magazine: “I want to do something that will be really fun. I want to do it in London. It won’t be super-duper expensive.
“To be honest with you, London is one place I never went to with my wife. I want to go somewhere that everywhere I turn I don’t see her.
“It’s a wonderful thing to see her, but I’m not ready to go back to our home where we lived together because it would break my heart and I would miss her too much.
“I have no associations with her in London so I want to be in London. It’s a film from a great author, but my own version of it. It involves a lot of dance and music. A lot of Noel Coward songs.”
Francis has lost the “rock of [his] life” as a result of his wife’s passing.
Asked about dedicating ‘Megalopolis’ to Eleanor, he said: “Yes, I confess to a degree of sentimentality. I had a wonderful wife of over 62 years and I’ve lost her.
“I must tell you I lost the rock of my life. I always have gone on these wild, mental adventures and my wife would say to me, ‘Francis, give your brain a rest.’ But I don’t know how.
“I needed her and she certainly was the love of my life. I miss her dearly. I believe it’s only in love that we understand some of life’s miracles. Scientists haven’t agreed what dark matter and dark energy is.
“We call it ‘dark’ because we don’t interact with it. I feel it’s love and we do interact with it because there’s nothing we do in our lives that doesn’t somehow touch the people we love.”

Christina Haack and Joshua Hall resolve property issues amid divorce

OHMYGOSSIP — Christina Haack and Joshua Hall have resolved their property issues amid their divorce.
The pair split during the summer after three years of marriage and they have now agreed that Christina will take full possession of their properties in Newport Beach, California and Nashville.
According to court documents obtained by Us Weekly, Joshua will take possession of their property in Franklin, Tennessee, with the stipulation that it cannot be rented out.
Christina, 41, has agreed to pay Joshua a $100,000 advance, which can be used for expenses such as bills and attorney’s fees, while he has agreed to return the remains of the $35,000 that he had transferred to himself in July.
A representative for Joshua, 41, told Us Weekly: “Josh Hall has no comment about this matter. He hopes to resolve these matters in private, not through the press.”
Meanwhile, last month, it was revealed that Joshua “voluntarily left” their Southern California home, and that he “never wanted to be famous “in the first place.
A source told Us Weekly: “Josh is sad that the marriage ended this way, but he’s excited to move forward. He voluntarily moved his belongings from his and Christina’s jointly owned property. He never wanted to be famous. This was always for Christina, and he’s happy to go back to living life as he wanted to live it.”
Joshua also insisted that he preferred “privacy” especially such a “life-changing” time.
Sharing a photo of himself with his dog Stella, he wrote on Instagram: “I prefer privacy, especially during something as life-changing as a divorce I did not ask for.
“I will not publicly badmouth anyone as people have families, friends and others who respect and love them. Unfortunately, the internet is forever.
“We are real humans, this is our life and I am not here to entertain people I don’t know with my private matters. Those details will be handled fairly behind closed doors with our respective counsels in due time.
“Those who know each of us, know who we are.”

Karen Gillan pregnant

OHMYGOSSIP — Karen Gillan is pregnant.
The 36-year-old actress is expecting her first child with husband Nick Kocher and she showed off her baby bump on the red carpet at the ‘Life of Chuck’ premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Karen – who posed beside co-stars Tom Hiddlestone and Chiwetel Ejiofor at the event – wore a fitted yellow mini dress with an off the shoulder cape, in order to accentuate her bump.
Karen and Nick tied the knot in May 2022 at Castle Toward near Dunoon in Argyll.
Meanwhile, Karen previously revealed she first connected with comedian Nick by sending him a DM.
She recalled: “I was so single and not meeting anyone.
“I did not get on with the American dating scene. Then he was presented as a recommended friend. I looked him up on YouTube and he was funny, so eventually I just slid into his DMs. I’ve never done that before in my life.”
And while her opening message was “the most boring thing ever”, she felt the ‘Saturday Night Live’ writer had tried too hard with his response.
She said: “What I received back was a writer’s fully formed response. He’d got his writer friends to gather round and I could tell. Too well constructed. Trying too hard.”
But Nick persuaded Karen to meet up in real life and after dating throughout lockdown, they tied the knot in 2022.
The ‘Jumanji’ actress loves the “cosy old pub” vibe of their cottage in Studio City but she’s struggling to find a home for her collection of replica dolls, which feature her in character as Amy Pond, Nebula and ruby Roundhouse.
She said: “I bought them all at one point from Amazon. Now, I don’t know what to do with them and it looks a bit narcissistic.”
And, she plans to move back to Scotland eventually.
She told the Times magazine: “I feel at home when I come back to the UK. I just really like seeing all the familiar faces on TV and feeling like I’m not out of the loop on the goings-on.
“This still feels like home even though so many people that I love are over there now [in the States]. But it’ll be over one day and then I’ll come back. All my best mates are still in Inverness, so I’ll get a little cottage up in the Highlands and just do that for the rest of my life.”

Ben Whishaw talks sexuality

OHMYGOSSIP — Ben Whishaw says being gay used to be thought of as a “disability” in showbiz.
The 43-year-old actor didn’t publicly come out until his mid-twenties and admitted hiding such a huge part of himself took an emotional toll.
He told The Sunday Times: “I think it’s down to every single person to do what’s right for them. For me, it’s better to be out.”
“I’m definitely happier. I remember days when I wasn’t out and that was a more stressful and unhappy position. So I’m grateful that’s over and also grateful that we live in a world where it’s not a shameful thing.
“When I started in the early 2000s, if you had said to another actor you were gay, it was implied or sometimes said explicitly that that was something you shouldn’t make a big thing about. It was a disability, almost.
“There weren’t a vast number [of out actors], and nobody my age. But gay people of my generation came in at a strange time post-AIDS, which had a whole knock-on effect. Yet it was one secret I didn’t need to keep.”
“It doesn’t need to be anyone’s business, but being happy in oneself, not ashamed, is probably better.”
Ben previously revealed that it took him a long time to come to terms with his sexuality.
He told The Guardian: “[Growing up, there was a thought that] there’s something wrong with you because you’re attracted to a certain thing. That takes a lot of time and understanding to get over. And understanding doesn’t just arrive because you’ve been explicit and open to other people.
“The equating of homosexuality with weakness – it’s taken a long time for me to understand there’s no reason why it should be anything of the sort. Honestly? I feel like I’m only starting to conquer that now.”

Princess Diana mystified over why she wasn’t ‘enough’ for husband Prince Charles

OHMYGOSSIP — Princess Diana didn’t understand why she wasn’t “enough” for her husband Prince Charles.
The royal was killed 27 years ago aged 36 in a Paris car crash and used to share her pain over her disastrous relationship with the future king before they got divorced with her longtime ballet teacher during the 1980s.
Anne Allan has now told of their painful sessions in her new memoir ‘Dancing with Diana’, in which she said Diana once sat in a class and told her: “I just can’t seem to do anything right when it comes to my husband.
“I do love him so much and want him to be proud of me, but I don’t think he feels the same way.
“I don’t understand why I am not enough for him; I think he prefers an older woman … I know he is seeing Camilla again.”
Diana started taking dance lessons with Anne weeks after she married Charles at St Paul’s Cathedral, London, on 29 July, 1981.
The royal’s breakdown in her lesson came in 1986 and was the first time Anne heard her famous client mention Charles’ future wife Camilla Parker-Bowles.
She said Diana added: “Why does he not love me? I really don’t understand. I have tried everything, tried to conform to his wishes even though I don’t always agree.
“There’s no affection between us, and I am always on my own. I just want to be loved. I can’t keep going on like this. They are really expecting me to just say nothing and keep going. How do I do that?”
Diana was killed on 31 August, 1997 – five years after she and then-Prince Charles split, before they finalised their divorce in 1996.
Two years after Diana’s death, Charles and Camilla publicly revealed their relationship.
Diana famously told of their affair in her TV interview with journalist Martin Bashir, saying: “There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.”

Kevin Costner admits $100m ‘Horizon’ epic didn’t have ‘overwhelming success’

OHMYGOSSIP — Kevin Costner has admitted his ‘Horizon’ film didn’t have “overwhelming success”.
The ‘Yellowstone’ actor, 69, plunged a huge chunk of his personal fortune into making the first of a series of epic westerns, which he has already followed up with ‘Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2’.
He said at the 2024 Venice Film Festival, where the sequel got its world premiere after its original 16 August release date was scrapped, that it was delayed after the performance of Chapter 1, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May and was released in cinemas in late-June.
He said about the first installment – which got mixed reviews and only earned $11 million at the box office in its opening weekend on a $100 million budget: “It didn’t have overwhelming success.”
But the ‘Dances with Wolves’ star optimistically added: “I’ve had a lot of movies that way, that have stood the test of time.”
Kevin added the studio behind ‘Horizon’ initially planned to release the sequel six weeks after the first film’s release – before they backtracked and decided not to put it out in mid-August.
But he added: “For me, it fell back into my plan, which was I always wanted to come out with movies about five-six months apart.
“And that was going to allow me to come to Venice. I would have never come to Venice, because they won’t show the film here if it was already out.”
Kevin added Venice Film Festival artistic director Alberto Barbera was “the biggest reason” they were able to show the project at the Venice Film Festival, and praised him for “bringing this here”.
He went on: “(He) gave me my dream and didn’t allow it to be squashed. F***, Venice keeps coming to my rescue.”
Kevin previously said on Instagram about being welcomed to Venice: “I’m indebted to Alberto Barbera for his courage and leadership in committing to this cinematic journey.
“It is with gratitude and excitement that I return to the Venice Film Festival. “Long live the movies and those willing to stand for them.”

Prince Harry ‘set to inherit £8m from late Queen Mother on 40th birthday’

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry is reportedly set to inherit £8 million from the late Queen Mother when he turns 40.
The Duke of Sussex will celebrate the milestone on 15 September, and it is thought his grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth, started collecting a huge trust fund for him when he was aged 10.
At the time, the Queen Mother, who was then 94, apparently put aside a tax-free £19 million to leave to her great-grandchildren, according to The Times.
The newspaper added the inheritances were divided into two installments – one to be given to Princes William and Harry when they turned 21, and another on their 40yth birthdays.
A former palace aide told The Times: “There was a trust fund set up at the time.
It was a way in which the Queen Mother could set aside money for when her great-grandchildren were older and a way of passing a slice of her estate down in a tax-efficient way.
“It was a way in which some of her estate could be ring-fenced for them.”
Sources added Harry may have been left more money than his older brother William, 42, in the inheritance.
Insiders say it is due to the face the Queen Mother assumed William would get a larger fortune from the Duchy of Cornwall as Britain’s future heir.
William became Duke of Cornwall when he was made Prince of Wales after King Charles’ coronation, and is estimated to have got a £23.6 million fortune by inheriting the estate.
When the Queen Mother died in 2002 aged 101, a statement from Buckingham Palace said: “Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother has bequeathed her entire estate (which mainly comprises the contents of her houses) to The Queen.
“In her will, she asked The Queen to make certain bequests to members of her staff, and these bequests will be subject to inheritance tax in the normal way.
“The Queen has decided that the most important of Queen Elizabeth’s pictures and works of art should be transferred to the Royal Collection.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Lopez and Matt Damon reportedly had a “deep conversation” in the wake of her divorce from the actor’s best friend Ben Affleck.
The singer, 55, is said to have had the exchange during her first major public outing since she filed to split from Ben, 52, on 20 August after two years of marriage – at the afterparty for the premiere of the ‘Unstoppable’ movie at the Toronto International Film Festival.
It came after sources told People Jennifer and Matt, 53, planned on attending the showing, but Ben wouldn’t be there.
People reported: “After posing for group pictures together at the premiere, Lopez and Damon hung out and talked for over 20 minutes at the afterparty, which was held at EPOCH Bar and Kitchen Terrace at The Ritz-Carlton.
“(They) were sitting at a table outside with the actor’s wife Luciana Damon and co-star Don Cheadle when Damon joined them.”
A source told the outlet: “Jen and Matt began talking and had a long, deep conversation.”
They added the two friends laughed and spoke “more seriously”, and “for several minutes, they clasped hands as they spoke”.

It was produced under Matt and Ben’s production company Artists Equity, and Jennifer plays wrestler Anthony’s mother Judy Robles in the film.
On stage during the question and answer session after the screening, Jennifer told fans: “I think it was my job really to help her feel safe. Both of them, Anthony and Judy, to feel safe and kind of put this in our hands and trust us with all the information that they could give us and know that we wouldn’t misuse it in any way, but only use it to tell their story in the best and most beautiful way that it deserved.
“Because it is one of the most beautiful, most inspiring stories I think I’ve ever seen on screen.”
Jennifer and Ben married in Las Vegas in 2022, before having a second wedding with family and friends in Georgia later the same year.

Sir Ian McKellen facing calls to hand back knighthood

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Ian McKellen is facing calls to hand back his knighthood.
The ‘Lord of the Rings’ actor, 85, is at the centre of outrage after he made a string of digs at the Royal Family – including branding Prince Harry dim, and Queen Elizabeth “quite mad” and “rude”.
Royal biographer Margaret Holder has now told the Daily Express about his remarks – which he made during a chat with The Times: “Perhaps if Sir Ian feels so slighted by the Queen he could consider returning his knighthood, although he may regret that in the future.”
Margaret also referred to the actor’s fall from stage in June in London, which left him hospitalised, adding: “We have to remember this is an elderly man who had a nasty accident recently. Perhaps he may say something different in time to come.”
Dickie Arbiter, the late Queen’s official spokesman between 1988 and 2000, also hit out at the actor for making his comments after accepting an honour from the Queen.
He said: “Ian McKellen was being somewhat churlish and over the top suggesting the late Queen was rude when she asked if people ‘were still going to the theatre’.
“Theatres have complained for years about high costs and a lack of bums on seats – a perfectly legitimate question. If that’s how he felt, why accept the honour?
“It was a snide attack not expected of an intelligent man with such stature. The question is, ‘Did the late Queen really say that?’ and, if so, why come out with it now? A cheap shot.”
Sir Ian was knighted for services to the performing arts in 1991 and Queen Elizabeth II appointed him Companion of Honour for his services to drama and equality in 2008.
He said about the Queen: “I’m sure she was quite mad at the end. And on the few occasions I met her she was quite rude.
“When I received a medal for acting, she said, ‘You’ve been doing this for an awfully long time’.
“I said, ‘Well, not as long as you’. I got a royal smile for that, but then she said, ‘Does anyone still actually go to the theatre?’
“That’s bloody rude when you’re giving someone a medal for acting.
“It meant, ‘Does anyone care a f*** about you because I don’t. Now off you go!’”
Ian added about the Queen’s late husband Prince Philip he was “deeply, deeply eccentric” possibly “deeply unhappy”.
He said: “Same with the present king. He sort of survives, but he is clearly damaged.
“As for (Prince) Harry, he’s probably not bright enough or doesn’t have the right friends to really help himself.”

Jennifer Lopez ‘told Unstoppable co-star Bobby Cannavale she’s a bad picker’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Lopez is said to have told her ‘Unstoppable’ co-star Bobby Cannavale she is a “bad picker”.
The singer, 55, reportedly made the remark to the actor, 54, while they were promoting their new ‘Unstoppable’ movie at the Toronto International Film Festival – with her comment appearing to be a reference to her collapsed marriage to Ben Affleck.
Page Six reported Jennifer could be overheard telling Bobby: “I’m a bad picker”, adding her remark was caught on video taken by The Hollywood Reporter.
Bobby was seen appearing to have trouble hearing Jennifer at first, and she is said to have then repeated the phrase at least two other times to him, while also laughing off the admission.
She was then seen saying: “It is what it is.”
Four-time married Jennifer’s exes include actor Ojani Noa, 50, to whom she was hitched from 1997 to 1998, as well as her former husband, 55-year-old dancer Cris Judd.
She was also married to actor Marc Anthony, 55, from 2004 to 2014 – with whom she has her 16-year-old twins Emme and Max, before she married Ben, 52, in 2022.
Jennifer filed for divorce from the ‘Gone Girl’ actor, 52, on 20 August – the former couple’s two-year anniversary of their 2022 wedding.
In May, Jennifer appeared to tell fans she believes she chooses the wrong men for herself by liking a post online about unhealthy relationships.
The quote she referenced said no-one can “build a healthy relationship with somebody” who “lacks integrity and emotional safety” and “doesn’t respect your time” or lacks “communication skills”.
Jennifer is also said to have had a “deep conversation” at the afterparty for the ‘Unstoppable’ premiere with Ben’s best friend Matt Damon.
It came after sources told People Jennifer and Matt, 53, planned on attending the showing, but Ben wouldn’t be there.

King Charles’ health ‘heading in very positive direction’

OHMYGOSSIP — King Charles’ health is said to be heading in a “very positive” direction.
The 75-year-old revealed earlier this year he was battling an unnamed form of cancer which was detected after he went into hospital for a routine operation to correct an enlarged prostate, and a royal source has now said he is well on the road to recovery.
A source told the Daily Mail Charles has also coped with the past year – which has also seen his daughter-in-law Catherine, Princess of Wales, 42, have preventative cancer treatment – with a “determination to be as public as he was able” about his fight to reassure the nation about his capabilities as king.
The insider added: “Health has to remain the number one priority, albeit heading in a very positive trajectory.”
Charles and Camilla, 77, are set to go on a tour of Australia and Samoa in the autumn.
It will mark their first major overseas trip since news of Charles’ cancer was broken.
Camilla has been undertaking public royal visits in the last year and has repeatedly told royal fans during the trips Charles is strong and fighting back.
She gave her latest insight into Charles’ treatment this week when she opened a cancer centre in Bath – saying he is doing “very well”.
The source said about how Camilla’s support was helping Charles: “Her natural warmth, resilience and sense of humour, as I’m sure any patient will tell you, is a wonderful thing to have.
“Of course, it’s been a stressful year for Her Majesty, too, but there was never a sense of despondency, only a determination that they would get through this, as with so many other challenging issues in the past.”
Charles stayed away from public duties for around three months after he was diagnosed with cancer in January.
He returned to work in April with a visit to a cancer centre in London where he met with fellow patients, and insiders say “down time” is set to be incorporated into his and Camilla’s visit to Australia and Samoa.

Anne said: “Diana wanted Charles to be with her and to love her. Even though she was in her own romantic affair, at this point, Charles was still the man she desired and that was why it was so agonising for her.”
Diana died five years after she and then-Prince Charles split, before they finalised their divorce in 1996.

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicole Kidman is in “shock” after her mother died.
The 57-year-old actress made the announcement to fans her mum had passed away hours before she was awarded a best actress award for her role in ‘Babygirl’ at the Venice Film Festival on Saturday. (08.09.24)

The statement in full from Nicole said: “Today I arrived in Venice to find out shortly after, that my beautiful, brave mother Janelle Ann Kidman has just passed.

Nicole added she felt lucky to be able to see the world through her mother’s eyes, and described her outlook as “so beneficial”.
She said: “I’m at the place where I’m being given the chance to view the world, because of how close we are, my mum is giving me the chance to view the world through an 81-year-old woman’s eyes.
“That is so beneficial right now, because she’s so cognisant. She has every brain faculty available, so she hasn’t lost anything.
“She hasn’t lost any memory, which is fascinating, and she’s extremely bright.
“She’s giving me access, because she’s also very direct and very honest, and so I’m getting access to the world through her eyes, my mother’s eyes, so therefore a part of me almost at 80.”

He admitted about one of his children struggling with sitting in lessons: “I have a seven-year-old in fourth grade (son Golden Sagon), and he’s just so smart that even school is boring to him.
“So it’s like getting him re-engaged and excited because he had so much fun during the summer.
“So, all right, ‘We can still have just as much fun during the school year’, but it’s kind of just keeping the excitement.”

Selma Blair watches ‘Cruel Intentions’ ‘all the time’

OHMYGOSSIP — Selma Blair watches her ‘Cruel Intentions’ film “all the time”.
The actress, 52, caused a sensation in the 1999 movie by sharing a lesbian kiss on screen with her co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar, 47, and has spent recent years being open about her battle with multiple sclerosis – which has led to her being forced to use a cane to walk.
She said at The Daily Front Row’s 11th Annual Fashion Media Awards about how she is constantly cheered up by repeat viewings of two of her earliest roles – in ‘Cruel Intentions’ and ‘Legally Blonde’.
When asked about the former, which marked its 25th anniversary earlier this year, Selma told People: “It makes me so happy though… because that movie is such a good, sexy … I don’t know, talk about wardrobe.
“I mean, she (costume designer Denise Wingate) did an amazing job with the wardrobe.
“But it was one of the most gorgeous movies. It still lasts. It still holds up. And I love it. And I love everyone in that cast. I’ll watch it all the time.”
Selma stressed: “I mean, I don’t put it on. But if it’s in the background, I will never turn it off. Like, never.”
Selma added about starring in 2001’s ‘Legally Blonde’ alongside Reese Witherspoon: “(I) never turn off ‘Legally Blonde’, too. I’ll never turn that off.
“Because that’s just really happy.”
She added about both movies: “They have a great energy and they’re beautiful … and I was so thrilled.”
The actress also said she’s glad the movies are finding a home with “the younger generation”, saying: “I hope that things come back in style. My mom said, ‘Everything always comes back in style’.
