Sue Holderness’ guilt over ‘Only Fools and Horses’ ruining lives of anyone called Marlene and Rodney

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Only Fools and Horses’ actress Sue Holderness feels guilty the classic BBC comedy has ruined the lives of everyone called Marlene and Rodney.
The 75-year-old starred as Marlene – wife of car dealer Boycie, played by the late John Chalis – in the show from 1985 to 2003 and has now said she pities people with their characters’ names as they get constantly taunted with Boycie’s “Marleeene” catchphrase.
Sue was quoted in the Daily Star saying: “It’s surprising how many people say, ‘We’ve got a Boycie and Marlene in our pub. And people come up and say, ‘Look at my husband. He’s Boycie, isn’t he? Do the laugh love, do the laugh.’
“I mean, there are a lot of people who have a Boycie or Marlene in their lives.
“Occasionally, you meet the poor devils christened Marlene. They spend their whole lives having to hear ‘Marleeene’ and it’s affected them.”
Sue added people called Rodney also suffer from being teased by being called Dave – ‘Only Fools’ character Trigger’s constantly mistaken name for Nicholas Lyndhurst’s role on the show as Del Boy’s brother.
She added: “And of course anybody called Rodney is going to be called Dave.”
Sue was left devastated when her ‘Only Fools’ co-star John Challis died in his sleep from cancer in September 2021 aged 79.
Sue recalled seeing John a month before he died, following his long heath fight, saying on ITV at the time: “How lucky was I that John Challis became to be the other husband in my life? We were friends from the word go.
“Just five weeks ago we were having lunch together, and less than four weeks before he died John and I were filming together all day and he was fine.
“He was as much fun as usual, but he got a bit tired towards the end of the day. “So the end came very quickly. I can honestly say I don’t believe he’s gone.
“I think he’s watching us now, and we must talk about our loved ones who are no longer with us.”

Natalie Cassidy’s body insecurities

OHMYGOSSIP — Natalie Cassidy sometimes feels like “the ugliest person in the room”.
The ‘EastEnders actress – who is engaged to TV cameraman Marc Humphreys – admitted she still suffers from body insecurities and doesn’t think she will ever be confident about her looks.
She told The Sun newspaper: “I can be somewhere and feel a million dollars and not even think about my weight.
“But put me in another situation, with a different group of people, and I’ll feel like the ugliest person in the room.
“And that is me being 100 per cent honest.
“I still don’t have that confidence. I still don’t want to put a swimming costume on.
“I don’t think I’ve ever — no matter what weight I’ve been — thought, ‘I look really good today’, standing naked in front of a mirror.
“I’ve been 7st and 12st and I’ve never thought that.”
Natalie, 41, who has played ‘EastEnders’ favourite Sonia Fowler for 31 years – believes her insecurities were caused by losing money for a weight-loss DVD.
She said: “When I did my DVD, I lost 4st in three months and then I put it all back on again — and more — within less time.
“That was the straw that broke the camel’s back, doing that stupid DVD. I felt really ashamed of myself.
“When I look back, doing that was the start of my issues with food. Because I never thought about it before then. I was a very confident person.”

Prue Leith suffered modelling disaster trying to copy Naomi Campbell

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Prue Leith suffered a modelling disaster while trying to emulate Naomi Campbell.
The 84-year-old ‘Great British Bake Off’ star revealed she suffered embarrassment while attempting her best supermodel strut at a charity fashion show, which ended in her knocking over two VIPs’ wine glasses.
She told The Oldie magazine: “I’d once, for a charity do, modelled an Issey Miyake dress, walking between tables of prospective rich donors.
“Attempting one of those stylish turns while sweeping off a cape – Naomi Campbell-style – to drag behind me, I’d managed to send two VIPs’ wine glasses flying.”
However, Prue didn’t let the experience put her off and recently agreed to model a dress made by her friends Vin and Omi from willow bark from the King’s Sandringham estate.
And, the latest modelling stint was even more complicated, “marching through two floors of the Other House hotel in London, through lounges, kitchen, dining room, library, bars and up and down stairs, with the audience, press and photographers lining the rooms”.
Prue went on: “My natural egotism and the lure of something new and different meant sense did not prevail.”
And, unfortunately, Prue’s latest modelling stint was no more successful than the first.
She explained: “I was the last in the line and I got lost all the time. having to rely on the audience to redirect me. I could not keep a straight face and was either panting from the effort or laughing as I lost my way, tripped or made an a** of myself.”
But, despite the chaos, Prue “absolutely loved it”.
She went on: “The buzz was terrific, it was like getting a standing ovation. The audience clapped and whooped like crazy.”

Saoirse-Monica Jackson resigns herself to being typecast as schoolgirl

OHMYGOSSIP — Saoirse-Monica Jackson has resigned herself to being typecast as a schoolgirl.
The 31-year-old actress shot to fame playing neurotic teen pupil Erin Quinn in Channel 4 hit ‘Derry Girls’, and even though it has led to her being offered similar parts she says she’s grateful for it as she couldn’t land parts playing characters in their thirties before being given her breakout role.
She told Cosmopolitan UK’s digital edition: “I couldn’t get seen for parts my own age.
“So much is happening for me in real time, but in my work, I’m in the school playground.”
Saoirse added actress Dame Joanna Lumley, 78, gave her top advice as they filmed a travel show in Derry that reassured her about her career.
She went on: “Joanna said, ‘You have to get to a point of acceptance where to some people, you will always be a perpetual schoolgirl. And it will be okay, my darling, because it’ll give you a ticket to the world’.”
Saoirse is now starring in Netflix plague comedy-drama ‘The Decameron’, added about her fame: “I can walk into a bar in New York and people sit me down to chat. I’ve had conversations on the phone with people’s mums when they stop me in the street.
“It’s the best craic. It is a f****** privilege.”
Despite ‘Derry Girls’ being a springboard to bigger things for stars including Saoirse and Nicola Coughlan, 37, who went on to star in ‘Bridgerton’, its creator Lisa McGee has said the TV business is still filled with a “incredibly depressing” disparity between male and females employed in the industry.
The 43-year-old writer spoke out after the publication of a report which analyses the gender disparity of those working behind the scenes at broadcasters.
She told The Irish Times about the findings: “The schemes and programmes created to address this very issue seem to, at best, merely paper over the cracks or, if I were to be cynical, were not created with the intention of creating real change.
“There’s a real sense of exhaustion out there among my fellow writers.
“People are asking why men are still writing female stories when that certainly doesn’t go both ways – male writers dominate most genres.”
Lisa – who won an Emmy this year for her work on Channel 4’s ‘Derry Girls’ – added women in television would be “disappointed by the fall” their representation within the business – but not “shocked”.

Inside Out 2 beats Frozen II to become biggest animated movie in history

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Inside Out 2’ has become the highest-grossing animated film of all time.
The Pixar flick topped the previous record-holder ‘Frozen II’ – which brought in $1.45 billion during its 2019 theatrical run – after it generated $601 million in the U.S. and $861 million globally, bringing the sequel’s total box office earnings to $1.46 billion.
As well as crossing this milestone, the picture also broke another major record earlier in July after it topped ‘Barbie’s’ global ticket sales, which has cemented the animated blockbuster as the 13th biggest movie in history.
Michael O’Leary, president and CEO of the National Association of Theatre Owners, told Variety: “The film’s stunning global success once again illustrates that audiences the world over will respond to compelling, entertaining movies, and that they want to enjoy them on the big screen.”
The film – which cost $200 million to make – is currently trailing behind Disney’s 2019 remake of ‘The Lion King’, which pulled in $1.65 billion.
Technically, ‘The Lion King’ is a computed-generated film, though the studio classifies it as a live-action remake, and so is not considered an animated flick.
However, it is possible ‘Inside Out 2’ will supersede it is only just about to hit theatres in Japan.
The film is set two years after Riley’s (Kensington Tallman) move to San Francisco, and follows the young teen as she begins her high school journey and deals with the range of new emotions that come with puberty.
Director Kelsey Mann recently suggested that a third ‘Inside Out’ film could be made as the creative possibilities within the animated franchise are endless.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, Kelsey said: “I love this world. It’s such a great world to play in, and ideas just kind of come from playing in this world, but for both locations and characters.
“There’s so many ideas not only from the first film, but especially in this one, where I’m like, ‘That’s a really fun, clever idea. I don’t know how it fits into this particular story, but it should be used at some point.'”

‘It’s the enemy of storytelling’: Logan director James Mangold hates multi-verse movies

OHMYGOSSIP — James Mangold hates multi-verse movies because he thinks they’re “the enemy of storytelling”.
The 60-year-old director has helmed Marvel blockbusters like ‘The Wolverine’ and ‘Logan’ but isn’t looking to bring this cross-over idea over to his upcoming Bob Dylan biopic ‘A Complete Unknown’, which stars Timothee Chalamet as the music legend.
Asked if Chalamet’s Dylan could cross paths with Joaquin Phoenix’s Johnny Cash from his 2006 flick ‘Walk the Line’, Mangold told Rolling Stone magazine: “I don’t do multiverses. But beyond that, Johnny Cash was like, 30. I love Joaquin, but he’s not 30, or whatever Johnny was at this moment. They’re both young people in that moment in life.
“It’s weird that I’ve even worked in the world of I.P. entertainment, because I don’t like multi-movie universe-building. I think it’s the enemy of storytelling. The death of storytelling. It’s more interesting to people the way the Legos connect than the way the story works in front of us.”
The ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ director added he wanted to make films that focus on character-driven stories that work on an “emotional level”, instead of flicks that are preoccupied with impressing fans with ‘Easter eggs’.
He explained: “For me, the goal becomes, always, ‘What is unique about this film, and these characters?’ Not making you think about some other movie or some Easter egg or something else, which is all an intellectual act, not an emotional act. You want the movie to work on an emotional level.”

Kevin Feige heaps praise onto Hugh Jackman for ‘dark’ performance in Deadpool and Wolverine

OHMYGOSSIP — Marvel boss Kevin Feige has praised Hugh Jackman for bringing a “darker element” to his superhero in ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’.
The 55-year-old star has reprised his role of Wolverine for the first time since 2017’s ‘Logan’ and even after playing the mutant on and off since 2000’s ‘X-Men’, the studio chief is impressed the actor is still able to find new sides to his alter ego.
Speaking to ScreenRant, he said: “On a deeper level, I think he has said that he taps into a darker element of the character, which is not necessarily apparent in the fun footage that you’ve seen in trailers.
“But when you see the movie, there’s a darkness that always comes with the Wolverine character from the comics that is touched on in certain of the previous movies, but is delved into in this one in a way that really takes you to, I think, a special place and showcases yet again. What a spectacular actor.”
The film – which also stars Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth – marks the beginning of the ‘X-Men’ saga in the MCU, after the studio first introduced mutants through the Disney+ show ‘X-Men ’97’.
Looking to the future of the MCU, Feige teased the studio was going to delve “into the deep bench of mutant characters”, while exploring the “mythology of the comics”.
He explained: “I think we’ve seen a lot of great characters in the ‘X-Men’ movies that have existed up to now, but there are literally hundreds that we haven’t seen yet.
“For me, [‘X-Men ’97’] was, and the animation team of Marvel Studios did such a spectacular job with that and seeing the audience respond to the soap opera elements and to the love triangles and to all that that really makes the X-Men the X-Men.
“It had all of us very excited about the translation back into live-action.”

Chris Hemsworth to lead new sci-fi thriller The Corsair Code

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Hemsworth has signed on to appear in the upcoming sci-fi thriller ‘The Corsair Code’.
The 40-year-old actor has signed up to appear in the “high-octane, sci-fi mystery adventure”, which is based on a short story by Jonathan Tropper, with the ‘Adam Project’ writer also penning the screenplay and producing the project through his own Tropper Ink outfit.
Chris will also serve as producer alongside his business partner Ben Grayson, 42, through their company Wilde State, and it will be made by Apple Studios after Apple Original Films acquired the rights to the movie.
The Australian star was most recently seen in George Miller’s ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’, in which he starred opposite Anya Taylor-Joy as the villainous Dementus.
Reflecting on the role, the actor revealed he loved having the chance to play an antagonist after years of portraying the heroic god Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
He told SFX magazine: “It was somewhat liberating and refreshing to kind of shed the heroic Thor space and transform into something different, and not have to be restricted by the expectations of the hero, guess. The first time I read the script, I felt a huge amount of creative impulses and ideas bubbling up, and then my conversations with George.
“This went on for a couple of years before we started shooting. I never had the luxury to sit with a character for two, three years before having actually stepped on set, so there was plenty bubbling under the surface.”
Despite enjoying the “departure” from Thor, the ‘Transformers One’ star admitted it took him quite a while to get to grips with his new villain.
He explained: “Unlike other scripts, I didn’t quite know who the character was. I kept having different ideas. Then the next week, something would contradict that.
“Two weeks out from shooting, I got really nervous because I hadn’t clicked on what this character was. George suggested I journal in first person as the character and see what comes up. About 1am one night, I couldn’t sleep, and I grabbed my notepad and just started pen to paper and didn’t think much of it.
“[I] woke up the next morning and was quite shocked by what I’d come up with in that half-sleep state. I showed it to George, and we instantly went, ‘Ah, that’s the direction …’ and that now informs the why of the character.”

Will Bayley claims Strictly left him with life-changing injuries but there was ‘no duty of care’

OHMYGOSSIP — Will Bayley has claimed there was “no duty of care” when he injured himself on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 36-year-old Paralympian – who was born with arthrogryposis which affects all four of his limbs – competed on the 2019 edition of the BBC Latin and ballroom show but had to pull out when he injured his ankle after trying to perfect a risky move in rehearsals and claimed that the incident has left a lasting impact.
He told The Sun newspaper: “Now feels like the right time to speak up. I hope what I went through never happens to anyone else.
“I think the show thought they were being inclusive by casting me, but I actually felt pressured.
“I have got a serious disability and I don’t think anyone was really looking out for me when I injured myself, leaving me with injuries that still affect me to this day.
“No one has ever contacted me from the BBC or said sorry.
“There was no duty of care — I should have been taken to hospital as soon as I had the accident, but all they cared about was trying to get me to dance.”
Will – who was paired with Janette Manrara during his time on the show – recalled having to jump off a table as part of a routine but claimed that his partner had branded him as “rubbish” and pushed himself to do the stunt as a result even though it left him in the “most horrific pain” he has ever experienced.
He said: ” There was a table for me to jump off was brought out and I said, ‘I’m not sure I can land safely’.
“Everyone assured me I would be fine. I didn’t want to do the jump, and my coach said before, ‘He can’t do jumps’.
“We practiced a few times and I was really careful. But then Janette said my jump was ‘rubbish’ and I needed to smile more and go for it and show a bit of passion.
“I was really determined, so I went for it and smiled at the camera. When I landed I just had the most horrific pain. I still have flashbacks now.
“I was lying on the floor thinking my whole career was over. I heard my leg crack, I couldn’t breathe.”
Will recalled his knee “popping out of its socket” as he landed but is sure that BBC bosses “didn’t want” him to undergo treatment at the hospital so they could ensure he would still perform on the show as he admitted that he lives with the repercussions every day.
He added: “”I felt like ‘Strictly’ didn’t want me to go to hospital at the time. They knew then I definitely wouldn’t be able to dance.
“I had straps on my knees that were trying to hold it in place to see if I could try to dance, but my knee was falling out of the socket.
“They even asked me to try to do some moves. I did one step of dance. I didn’t go to hospital until two days later, where they finally scanned my leg and told me I needed to pull out.
“I’ll never get over that injury — you have it for life. I’ve already got a limiting disability but this on top of it. I wake up in the morning and it hurts.”
The news follows the confirmation fellow professional dancers Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima will not be returning to the programme amid allegations about his treatment of his celebrity dance partners

Kevin Feige insists Blade reboot isn’t being ‘rushed’

OHMYGOSSIP — Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has insisted the ‘Blade’ reboot is taking a long time because the team doesn’t want it to be “rushed”.
The original movie starring Wesley Snipes – based on Marvel’s vampire-slaying superhero – was released in 1998 and spawned two sequels and a TV series and now the studio is attempting to bring it back to life for a new generation but the production has suffered numerous setbacks and its planned release date was pushed back by two years.
Now Feige has claimed the team are just treading carefully and making sure the project isn’t rushed out. He told BlackTree TV: “For the last two years as we’ve been trying to crack that movie, the most important thing for us is not rushing it and making sure we are making the right ‘Blade’ movie.”
He went on to insist the team plans to follow in the footsteps of Marvel’s ‘Deadpool’ franchise by keeping ‘Blade’ with a restrictive adults-only age-rating.
Feige added: “There were some great ‘Blade’ movies years ago – they were all rated-R. So I think that’s, like ‘Deadpool’, inherent with the character of Blade.”
Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali is set to take on the role of the vampire hunter alongside Mia Goth as the villain Lilith.
The movie has already gone through two directors, Bassam Tariq was first to go, followed by Yann Demange. But Mia recently insisted the project is being handled with care.
She told Deadline.com: “[The cast and crew] really care, they do. They want to make a great movie. That’s the sense that I get from them and that feels good.”
The script comes from the likes of ‘Black Widow’ and ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ scribe Eric Pearson and ‘True Detective’ creator Nic Pizzolatto.
Wesley Snipes recently laughed at the production’s delays, writing in a post on X: “Blade, lordylordylordy folks still lookin for the secret sauce, ridin snowmobiles in traffic, kinda rough.
“Daywalkers make it look easy, don’t they? (sic)”
In an interview with Uproxx, he did, however, puts his support behind Ali. He said: “I don’t have any involvement, but I support the young artists and I support Marvel in their business decisions. It’s a beautiful thing. I think he’s a heck of a job. He’s got a heck of a job on his hands.”

Twisters director Lee Isaac Chung reveals why he cut kiss between Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell

OHMYGOSSIP — Lee Isaac Chung decided to cut Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones’ kissing scene from ‘Twisters’.
The 45-year-old director is at the helm of the new thriller – which focuses on the relationship between ameteorologist (Edgar Jones) and a tornado wrangler (Powell) – and revealed that even though he filmed two versions of the romantic scene, he ultimately chose to release the one without the physical romance.
He told Collider: “I filmed both versions, to be honest. I had a kiss version, and I had a non-kiss version. I have to say, I like both versions and there were many arguments made to have them kiss. My 13-year-old niece is very mad at me that I didn’t have them kiss because she saw that version and she loved that. But it feels to me that Kate’s journey and the reward at the end for her should not be a kiss, but that she’s found companionship, she’s found community again, and she’s also come back to her sense of purpose, which is chasing these storms. So a storm is coming in, and those two together decide to go out to chase that storm, and I love that ending. So, many apologies to my niece and other people.”
Lee also noted that even though there will be handful of deleted scenes available on the upcoming Blu-Ray release of the film, the kissing scene will not be on there because he wants the audience to simply “imagine” that moment.
He said: ” I decided to withhold that one. I put in some other deleted scenes but that one I decided to withhold. I’d rather people imagine that.
“They’re just little bits. I have a moment of Daisy and Glen together having a slightly more romantic moment that I took out — no kiss. [Laughs] Sorry for that. Then just a funny moment with Brandon Perea that I thought was really great, and Anthony greeting Daisy at the airport when Daisy arrives into Oklahoma. I have a scene there that I cut.”

Vanessa Bauer praises Dancing on Ice’s duty of care amid Strictly scandal

OHMYGOSSIP — Vanessa Bauer has admitted that the training regime used on ‘Dancing on Ice’ is “different” to that of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 28-year-old skater serves as a professional on ITV1’s rival to the BBC Latin and ballroom competition – which recently announced that it would be introducing chaperones in a bid to tighten its duty of care protocols amid a major misconduct row – and admitted that even though rehearsals are “intense”, there is an extra element of safety needed on her show so there are always several people present.
She told The Sun newspaper’s TVBiz column: “Their training regime is different to Dancing on Ice. But yeah, training is intense.
“All our sessions are recorded and we also have coaches on the side that are helping with spotting our lifts.
“We have to have an added safety factor, so most of the time there are people around on the ice rink anyway.”
Graziano Di Prima has been axed by bosses of ‘Strictly’ in the last week amid reports of alleged misconduct relating to how he treated his 2023 partner Zara McDermott, and fellow professional dancer Giovanni Pernice will also not be returning to the programme amid allegations about his treatment of his celebrity dance partners.
Despite the controversy surrounding ‘Strictly’ at the present time, Vanessa admitted earlier this month that she would like to swap the rink for the dancefloor and become a contestant.
She said: “I would love to do ‘Strictly’. I think it’s time for a Dancing on Ice pro to be a celebrity on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
“We’ve had enough ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ pros being a celebrity on ‘Dancing on Ice’ and I think it’s time to switch the world.”
